To Mr Infowars...
Don't spam my site and I won't spam yours. Okay? If you have something to say, go ahead and say it. My readers are pretty good at sorting out what the real story is.

#1  ah, commenting *is* up! I was wondering just how many of today's comments were from Mr. Infowars. There were some definite oddities before the SPAM. Oh well; it seems the guy's site is registered to those SPAM-spewing Frenchmen at Gandi.net, and what can we expect but for him to spew the same worn-out French conspiracy theories. Who else would host him?
What's the old joke... oh yeah.
Rip van Winkle falls asleep in 1850 and wakes up in 1950. He asks the nearest villager how the world has changed, and the guys says: "We've had two world wars, and in the second one the enemy killed millions of innocent Jews.
van Winkle exclaims: "Damn the French! I knew they would pull something like that eventually!"

Arabia
Soddies nab goat smugglers...
Coastguards in Qahma, Haridha and Shaqeek, 210 kilometers south of Abha, foiled attempts to smuggle goats into the Kingdom from Sudan, Somalia and Ethiopia in boats. The guards arrested one of the suspects and impounded six boats abandoned by other smugglers after a five-hour manhunt. Mubarak Al-Mutlaka, director of agriculture in Asir, told Arab News that said an investigation has been launched. Mutlaka said a veterinary team will inspect the goats seized from the smugglers to make sure that the animals are free of diseases. He suspected that a network of goat smugglers might have been active in the country making quick profits as a result of the recent price rise.

Kingdom never funded terrorists, says Turki
Former Saudi intelligence chief Prince Turki Al-Faisal said Wednesday his country never paid terrorists.
"Ah never had sex with that woman..."
In a CNN interview, Turki answered, “absolutely not” when asked if any member of the Saudi royal family had “ever given any money to terrorist groups, or funneled money to another organization that led to terrorist groups.”
"... not once!"
“I quote (US) Secretary (of the Treasury Paul) O’Neill, who has said he is very happy with what Saudi Arabia is doing, that it is cooperating with the United States and that it is doing all it can to arrest these money trails and prevent them,” he said.
"We just haven't found any yet..."
Turki, who has been nominated as his country’s ambassador to Britain, said the Kingdom “has always stood by its principles of safeguarding innocent lives wherever they are and whoever they are.
"Infidels, by definition, don't have innocent lives..."
“We have definitely fought terrorists, have brought some of them to justice and executed them. We have suffered at the hands of terrorists and we have never paid anybody blood money.”
"Look how we've cracked down on alk runners! There ain't nobody represents more of a danger than alk runners!""
Asked if Saudi Arabia would provide logistical support in the event of military action against its northern neighbor, Iraq, Turki said it would. “I’m not in a position to say whether this would be in the form of air bases or overflights. But I would definitely urge my government and my people to extend their fullest support to any UN action vis-a-vis Iraq.”
"Otherwise we're gonna eventually find ourselves out of our princely jobs, and churches, synagogues, titty bars and discos in Mecca..."
However, he said the Kingdom would “definitely not” support action by the United States alone because “the UN is the world body that oversees all these matters and has done so quite equitably in the past and hopefully in the future.”
"We'll keep trying to nail the American foot to the floor, or at least put a bucket on it..."
Meanwhile, Britain said yesterday it had accepted the appointment of Prince Turki as ambassador to Britain but said no start date had been fixed for his posting.
"Hi! I'm the Soddy ambassador! I'm here to help!"

Axis of Evil
Iraq: ''We got nuttin'!''
The Iraqi government presented to the rest of the world Saturday a hodgepodge a mass of documents detailing its nuclear, chemical and biological activities and formally declaring to the United Nations that it has no weapons of mass destruction.
''Nope! Not us!''
Iraqi officials displayed the giant declaration, totaling more than 12,000 pages, to the international media at mid-afternoon. It was expected to be handed over to U.N. officials in Baghdad by late Saturday and flown out Sunday on a U.N. plane, to reach U.N. headquarters in New York and the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna by late Sunday. The U.N. Security Council had set Sunday as the deadline. On a table in a government office, reporters were shown bound copies of volumes devoted separately to nuclear, chemical, biological and missile activities titled in English, "Currently Accurate, Full and Complete Declarations." The mass of paper, in volumes spread across the table, was accompanied by computer disks, presumably with additional information. A dozen Iraqi officials who worked on the declaration stood by, but refused to comment.
It will be interesting to see how Sammy chooses to play this — we can't really predict, because prediction depends on either clairvoyance or analysis of a rational pattern of thought. With a run of the mill dictator, complete surrender would be out of the question, because it would lead to a bullet in the back of the head at some point down the road. But Sammy really could produce a full and complete accounting and ride it out; he's been painting the humiliating defeat he suffered in Gulf War I as a victory for the "Iraqi knights" since shortly after they surrendered to a helicopter flying over. He has the security and the propaganda machinery to bring it off. But since his love of weaponry is apparently a part of his makeup, he probably won't do that.

Having enough there to keep arguing until spring is probably his tactic in this immediate case, which gives him time to work on breaking up the alliances we've formed. His impending address to the Kuwaiti people today probably says that's what's going to happen.

Another course he could take — and we'll find out soon enough if he did — would be to publish the recipe for each and every weapon of mass destruction in his arsenal in those 12,000 pages with accompanying CDs, publish them or just let the UN do it, and open the entire Pandora's box of WMD worldwide — something similar to the blowoff in Animal House.

#1  Once again, we see the "wisdom" of Colin Powell's approach. The U.N. was built to prevent any effective use of power. Blix this week said he would not offer any Iraqi scientists assistance in defecting, because that would offend the sovereignty of a U.N. member state. Yet, our intelligence about Iraq's WMD programs all comes from defecting scientists and military officers.

Now Blix is withholding the disclosure documents from the U.S. until he has had a chance to review them himself. The UN is acting more as a conspirator with Saddam than as an enforcer of its own resolutions.

I wonder how long Bush is going to play nice before he's had enough and gives Rumsfeld the nod.
Probably until the Pentagon has all its ducks in a row for invasion.

#2  "Ducks in a row"?

Ferchrissakes, we're the single greatest nation on the planet and we're supposed to need more than a year to get our forces together to bitchslap a shitty, third-rate Middle East thugocracy?

#3  Well, not just a blitchslap but a bitchslap when we suffer no more than 10 casualties. The moment 11th soldier is lost the media will call for unilateral withdrawal. So yes, it takes a year to draw up plans.

#4  If the Pentagod didn't already have the plans drawn up, the entire Joint Chiefs need to be sacked. It's their job to be ready for ANYTHING.

#5  C'mon, guys, it's more than just getting our order of battle pulled together. We need sufficient logistics, and that takes a while. We need favorable weather -- bad weather hurts the Iraqi military more than us, but the right weather helps us more than them. We need to let the UN comedy-drama play out the third act to give some of our nervous friends the cover they need to support us.

Figure, all things considered, D-day is sometime in mid-February.

Sammy 'apologizes' to Kuwait...
President Saddam Hussein on Saturday apologized to the Kuwaiti people for his country's invasion of Kuwait 1990, saying he was not apologizing out of weakness but a desire to set the record straight. In a speech read on national television by the Iraqi information minister, Saddam outlined the events that led to the invasion and said: "We apologize to God about any act that has angered him in the past and that was held against us, and we apologize to you (the Kuwaitis) on the same basis." The speech, however, laid out a long series of past events that seemed to justify the invasion. Saddam avoided using the word "invasion" and instead said Iraq's army had "entered" Kuwait. He also was careful to distinguish between the Kuwait people and their leaders, and he warned Kuwaitis that the Americans were only interested in their oil wealth. There was no immediate official reaction from Kuwait, and the official Kuwaiti state media did not carry the speech.
The was probably no official reaction from Kuwait because they were trying to figure out what the hell he was talking about. FoxNews carried part of the speech, and to me it sounded like the ramblings of a madman. Schwartzkopf, y'see, had been planning on war with Iraq all along, so the little misunderstanding between Sammy and the 19th province just presented a pretext, and the Iraqis were just standing around, not bothering anybody, an'... an'...

Excerpts from Sammy's speech...
Excerpts from Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's speech to the Kuwaiti people broadcast Saturday by Iraqi state television. The remarks were delivered in Arabic and translated by The Associated Press.
"We are saying what we are saying not out of weakness or as a tactic to an illegitimate end but to clarify facts as we see them. ... On that basis, we apologize to God for any action that may anger the Almighty if such an action took place in the past, unbeknownst to us but considered to be our responsibility, and to you (Kuwaitis) we apologize on this basis as well. O, you brothers, what we wish for is what we are working to achieve for your brothers in Iraq: to live free, without foreign control of your destiny, will, decisions, wealth, present and future."
"We're really sorry we took your country away from you and tried to wreck it. It wasn't our fault. We're not sure how it happened. Y'see, we really like you guys. All we want is to get along: we'll oppress our people, you can oppress your people."
"Kuwaiti officials said that they meet the (Iraqi) opposition for consultations. What kind of consultation is this other than conspiring against Iraq and interfering in its internal affairs under foreign supervision?"
"You don't want to have anything to do with those guys. There's no telling what they'll do..."
"Doesn't any Iraqi or Kuwaiti have the right to say ... why don't the believers, loyalists and holy warriors get together with their counterparts in Iraq under the tent of their creator - instead of the tent of London, Washington and the Zionist entity - to discuss first and foremost jihad against the occupying infidel armies to cleanse the shame and harm inflicted on the people of Kuwait or Iraq?"
"Let's all us Muslims get together and get some jihad goin'. I mean, you wouldn't want to support a bunch of Jews and Westerners and infidels against fellow members of the Master Race, wouldja?"
"Our behavior was prompted by so many actions starting with the joint military maneuvers in October 1989 in Kuwait under the auspices of the Americans. Then General Schwarzkopf, in February 1990, said that there was a need to increase the American presence in the Gulf area ... and then (Kuwait's) lowering the prices of crude oil despite OPEC's warning."
"So, y'see, it really wasn't our fault! It was all Norm's doing..."
"For those and other reasons, it was clear to us that danger for Iraq was in the offing and that it could not be solved through political channels. Therefore, under the framework of self protection and protecting everything that is dear, the events of Aug. 2 1990, took place."
"I mean, those infidels were invading everybody in sight, so what could we do? Kuwait was just sittin' there, and then somebody said, 'Hey, you guys should invade Kuwait to keep the Merkins from taking it over,' and we thought he was a Kuwaiti or somethin', so there we were! It was only later that I noticed he was one of my nephews."
"As you can see, the foreigners are occupying your country...and as you know, when the foreigners occupy a country, they do not only desecrate the soil but the soul, the religion and the mind."
"So where are you now? Sittin' around with a bunch of infidels running around, with tanks and guns and such. You think they're directed at us, but we know better, don't we? They'll soon be sniffin' around your womenfolk and everything. Just you wait."
"We and the people of Iraq salute those young believers who stand up to the foreign occupier with arms and those who see or believe that it is a shame that requires the cleansing of the land, and of the people, by fire and other means."
"We salute them, just like we saluted the Young Revolutionaries who invited us to gobble up Kuwait ten years ago, even if they were my nephews and his friends. You guys should go out and kill some Merkins, and then the rest of them will go away. And then things'll be back to normal, but we won't invade you again. Really we won't."

Nope. Still doesn't make any sense.

#1  And pease forget all the Kuwatis we Iraqis brutally killed even AFTER we had conquered your territory for Oil and its revenues; because like all dictatorships, we ran our own economy into the ground, and ran up a huge pile of debt. So don't take it personally, we plan to do it to all who have something we can plunder, even or ESPECIALLY another muslim nation.

Caucasus
Chechers unhappy about potential extradition to Russia
Careful, I'm channeling Pravda again!

The scandal with the Tbilisi circuit court decision, which turned down the appeal of three Chechens detained for boundary transgression in Georgia in August, is currently picking up steam in Georgia. The detained Chechens tried to appeal the decision of Georgian Prosecutor’s Office of November 28 to extradite them to Russia.

Hmmm, a functioning legal system. There's something you don't see in the Caucasus very often.

Earlier, the attorney of one of the detained declared that Georgian Prosecutor General Nugzar Gabrichidze had passed the decision on the extradition of the Chechens under the pressure from President Eduard Shevardnadze.

Hot potato! Hot potato!

He also said that materials sent from Moscow on the detained Chechen terrorists were forged, as the people were accused of committing the same grave crimes on Russian territory.

Islamists are really good at detecting forgeries, so they might have a point here.

The attorney was asked why the detained Chechen terrorists shouldn’t be extradited to Russia. He said: “In fact, extradition means certain death for these people, if not by a verdict of the Russian court, then in jail.”

Smart attorney.

Eduard Shevardnadze denied all accusations; he declared that Georgia would meet its every commitment to Russia in connection with extradition of the Chechen terrorists detained on the Georgian territory in August.

He wants them gone as much as the Russers want them.

He added that all formalities connected with the extradition must be observed at that. A special airplane will leave for Moscow from Tbilisi today to deliver the three Chechen terrorists to Russia.

Hi fellas, I'm from the President's Office and I'm here to tell you that you're being sent to a certain death extradited to Russia. There, that takes care of the formalities. Toodles!

And it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of thugs terrorists freedom fighters goofs people.

Zakaiev warns of new attacks
The self-styled “leader” of Chechnya, Ahmed Zakaiev, claimed in London that Chechen terrorists are planning a new wave of attacks against Russian civilian targets, including nuclear power stations.

And just how did he know of this? I thought he was the peace-loving one. And he's been shuttling between Denmark and Britian. Must have a LOT of minutes on his cell phone plan.

Zakaiev was arrested at Heathrow Airport, London, last Thursday, after being released from Copenhagen, but was freed after paying bail, a move which incensed the Russians, who want him extradited to the Russian Federation to stand trial for terrorist activities.

I'll just bet they're frosted. That's two EU countries in a row that have dissed them.

Mr. [Igor] Ivanov [N.B. Russian foreign minister] asked the British delegation in the OSCE meeting taking place in Oporto, Portugal, “What would you do if Osama Bin Laden, wanted internationally like Zakaiev, announced in London that he planned new attacks against civilian targets in the United States? Would you let him go after making this type of statement?”

Well Igor, it depends on who might be doing the letting go. French? Yep. Germans? Think so. Belgians? Who are we kidding? Italians? Prolly not. Greeks? He'd already be in a villa.

In the international fight against terrorism, it seems that every effort is expected of the Russian Federation while nothing is given in return.

They're still paying off the debts of the old Soviet Union in this regard. There's a reason why AK-47s are so plentiful in the third world. That said, Zakaiev belongs on the next Aeroflot flight to Moscow.

Vanessa takes up cudgel
Chechen terrorist Ahmed Zakayev detained after the World Chechen Congress in Copenhagen, left Denmark for cosmopolitan London. In a comfortable house of Vanessa Redgrave, the popular actress of the middle of the previous century, Ahmed Zakayev is waiting for a verdict from the British authorities.

"middle of the previous century"? That's pretty droll for a Russian!

After the meeting with officials of Britain’s Foreign Ministry and other governmental structures the Russian ambassador is sure that local authorities understand the seriousness of the situation and realize that it may have consequences to bilateral relations between the countries.

Somehow people don't shake in their boots anymore when threatened by the old Soviet Union Russians.

British actress Vanessa Redgrave supports the Chechen terrorist with his ideas. She said in an interview to BBC, she is sure that Zakayev is not a terrorist. In her words, Ahmed Zakayev entered the country with a multiple entry visa issued for him half a year ago. The actress says, the very fact of granting the visa to Zakayev proves that Britain’s special services checked him and discovered nothing criminal in his background and current activities.

"Clive!"
"Yes, Edward?"
"Who the hell was asleep in this office when that Zakayev got a visa?"
"Very sorry, sir. Shall we arrange for this not to come up in the next Question Time?"

The actress is sure that Britain’s justice will acquit her charge and won’t extradite him to “bloodthirsty Russia”; she says: “We have witnesses, documents and experienced lawyers.”

"We"? Looks like the old bag actress from the middle of the previous century has a new cause!

The rest of the article talks about all the legal procedures. Then it says that the final decision is still up to the foreign minister. I'd suggest Vanessa might want to start warming up for her next performance a street protest.

Europe
Nut who tried to hijack plane dead in his cell...
An lunatic Italian man who tried to hijack an Alitalia flight from Bologna to Paris has killed himself in his jail cell. Stefano Savorani was found dead shortly before midnight in his cell at the Saint-Paul-Saint-Joseph prison complex in Lyon in southern France, where he had been held since his arrest in late November. "He was found hanged in his cell. He was alone. There is no doubt it was suicide," a judicial source told Reuters.
Guess he won't be hijacking any more planes. Wonder where he got the rope, though? That's usually not standard prison issue, even in Europa...
The prison was already investigating the unexplained death of Savorani's cellmate in the prison's psychiatric unit earlier in the week. Savorani was asleep when his cellmate's body was found Wednesday night. But earlier in the evening, he said, the two had been putting plastic bags over their head as a "game," the Lyon prosecutor's office told The Associated Press.
"Suffocation! Suffo- Suffo-cation!
I'ts a game we love to play!
First you take a plastic bag
Then you put it on your head
Go to bed —
Wake dead!
Wheeee!"

Savorani, a former policeman with a history of psychiatric problems, had claimed to be a member of al Qaeda when he tried to hijack the jet on November 27. He entered the cockpit with a remote control device and told the crew he and Super Mario and Luigi intended to blow up the plane, which was carrying scores of people. Passengers said Savorani, 29, was "ranting" about the al Qaeda terrorist network and French media said he sprang from his seat in mid-flight shouting: "I am a terrorist, I am part of al Qaeda," Reuters news agency reported.
They used to claim to be Napoleon Bonaparte or Jesus Christ. One guy claimed he was "the Nephew of God." Ah, lunacy! Give it another name, "mainstream" its victims, but it'll always be with us...

Miss World pageant to go ahead in London
It has been dogged by riots, boycotted by some of its own contestants and is now faced with legal action. But when 92 scantily clad maidens beauty queens glide along the catwalk on Saturday, the glittering Miss World tiara will be the only thing on their minds. "You have only one way to go and that is up," said organizer Julia Morley. "These are girls who have big breasts are having fun."
I find them much more pleasant to look at than Nigerian mullahs, too...
The international pageant was run out forced to pull out of Nigeria last month after Islamist Muslim-Christian rioting left more than 200 people dead. But Morley, whose late husband Eric launched Miss World in 1951, was undeterred and hastily moved the event to London, where it will be hosted by Sean Kanan, an actor from U.S. soap "The Bold and The Beautiful."
Never heard of him...
Organizers say the show, whose motto is "beauty with a purpose," will be broadcast in 142 countries to a global audience of more than two billion. In Britain, however, where the pageant is widely seen as a quaint, kitsch spectacle, no television channel has agreed to broadcast it.
CNN sez that like kitsch is a bad thing. Not being particularly high-minded, I see much less danger to world peace or the eventual disposition of my immortal soul from 92 young women from around the world demonstrating their skills at interpretive dancing than from millions of Salafists rolling their eyes and waving guns.

FOLLOWUP:

Miss Turkey was crowned Miss World 2002 on Saturday, bringing to a close an international pageant that has been dogged by violence and controversy. Ms Azra Akin stood proudly to attention while her national anthem was played, after she accepted the glittering tiara and a 100,000 pound (US$156,000) prize from last year's winner, Nigeria's Agbani Darego.
Cash really does make it better, doesn't it?
'I am very honoured to be Miss World...I think it is good for a woman to have this position, and I hope I can make a difference,' she said, wearing her new Miss World sash over a flamboyant red dress.
Much better for a woman to have the position than a man, I always say...
The newly-crowned Miss World, who turns 21 on Sunday was raised by her Turkish parents in the Netherlands, plays the flute and listed her passions as ballet and belly dancing.
So take that, mullahs!

Fifth Column
God strikes Philip Berrigan dead...
Philip Berrigan, the former priest whose fight against the Vietnam War and nuclear weapons helped ignite a generation of anti-war dissent, has died of cancer. He was 79. Berrigan's family said he was diagnosed with cancer two months ago and decided to stop chemotherapy last month. He died Friday night at Jonah House, the communal residence for pacifists that he founded. His brother, the Rev. Daniel Berrigan, officiated over last rites ceremonies Nov. 30, attended by friends and peace activists, family members said.
The Berrigans provided the prototype for the sneering dismissiveness of the rest of us by our moral betters. They've made a good living heading a series of anti-American organizations ever since.

In the wake of their party's defeat at the voting booth, the great mental meltdown of the Democratic titans continues. Instead of sounding like statesmen, Democratic leaders like outgoing Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle and former Vice President Al Gore have been frantically trying to assign blame to anything and everything except the possibility that voters put more trust in Republicans to keep our nation secure.

The paranoid tone of their recent statements left media veterans--even those at outlets inclined to be supportive of Democrats--scratching their heads. Howard Kurtz of The Washington Post wondered, "Has Tom Daschle lost a couple of screws?" And in characterizing Gore's rant, Kurtz wrote, "you could depict this as a profile in courage. Or a profile in self-destructiveness."

One could easily interpret the statements of Gore and Daschle as the isolated bitching of a bitter pair. But to do that would miss the larger point: the tenor of political debate has deteriorated to such an appalling degree that name-calling has replaced genuine policy discussion. For example, if you don't share Tom Daschle's view of the media, you're a right-wing nut. If you characterize his blocking of legislation as obstructionist, Daschle will compare you to a mullah stirring the passions of terrorists. And Gore believes it is so unthinkable for the media to present conservative viewpoints that it must really be part of some grand conspiracy secretly funded by evil fascist billionaire capitalist pigs whose wallets are made out of people who died because they couldn't find affordable prescription drugs.

Although as a conservative I tend not to hope for too much Democratic success, an irrelevant Democratic party serves neither the long-term interests of the Republicans or the nation. Political competition is a good thing, and without the Democrats keeping the Republicans on their toes, it is conceivable that the Republicans could become as tired and bereft of ideas as the Democrats are today. Unchecked power is never a good thing.

In the meantime, though, I'll admit that watching people like Gore and Daschle disintegrate publicly is rather entertaining.

For the record, Bush is very much like an 8 year old retarded kid with a potato gun....the world excuses his stupidity only because his Daddy has money and he is a "special" boy.

India-Pakistan
Bombay boom injures 21...
A blast rocked the food court in the Mumbai Central train station Friday, injuring 21 people, six of them seriously. Initially, police said the blast had occurred in a McDonald's restaurant, but McDonald's said the explosion occurred at a nearby restaurant.
"Nope. Wudn't us. Y'want fries widdat?"
A top Indian police official said Friday's explosion occurred in an air conditioning duct in the ceiling. He said there was no smell of explosive or of burning or charring, and added it was still too early to say what caused the blast.
Normally there aren't any gas lines or anything similarly combustable running in air conditioning ducts. They're just tin. Anybody who watches action movies, though, can tell you that there's usually a good guy or a bad guy crawling through them, even though they're normally no more than about 12 inches wide...
He said 15 people were given first aid at the scene but another six were taken to hospitals because of the severity of their injuries. A McDonald's spokeswoman in the United States said: "We do not believe this has anything to do with McDonald's. It did not happen on McDonald's property. It was the neighboring business, the restaurant right next door." McDonald's said none of its customers and employees were injured.
Why should they be, if it didn't happen there?

Blasts Kill 15, Hurt 200 in Bangladesh
Bombs exploded simultaneously Saturday at three movie houses in northern Bangladesh, killing at least 15 people and wounding at least 200 others, a news report said. The movie houses were filled because of Islamic Eid-ul-Fitr festival marking the end of the Ramadan month of fasting. The explosions occurred in Mymensingh town, 70 miles north of the capital, Dhaka, the United News of Bangladesh reported. The report said the death toll was likely to increase. One bomb exploded when a large number of people were coming out of a movie theater after the evening show. Two other bombs went off at two other theaters, where the films were in progress.
We haven't been hearing much about Bangla in the past year. Even the Indian press doesn't spend much time on it, despite the presence of some fairly active Bad Guy networks. It's kind of the Topeka or Des Moines of the terror world — a nice place to live, but you don't want to visit there. But they have the same problems any other Islamic country does, in some cases even moreso, and they're reputed to have an al-Qaeda presence to help things along. That being the case, there's no surprise that the Bad Guys will try and kill people going out for an evening to enjoy themselves.

Pakistan pledges help to Kashmiris in hour of trial
President Gen Pervez Musharraf has extended warm greetings to all Kashmiri brothers and sisters on Eidul Fitr. In his message, he prayed for the success of the Kashmiri freedom movement and reiterated the government's resolve to continue providing all possible political, moral and diplomatic support to the courageous and legitimate struggle of the Kashmiris.
"But no, no! We're not fomenting terrorist attacks there! Not us! And we're not infiltrating people across the border, not us!"
He assured them that Pakistan would persist in this policy until a fair settlement of the Kashmir dispute was reached in accordance with the wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Islamist ones, anyway...
The president also said: "As we celebrate Eid, we remember with respect and gratitude all those who have laid down their lives in the epic struggle against the Indian occupation. We also salute all our brothers and sisters in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir who have given enormous sacrifices and suffered untold atrocities at the hands of the Indian occupation forces."
"These are different from the untold atrocities they've suffered at the hands of the Pak infiltrators and internal snuffies..."

Mufti govt responsible for NC workers’ killing: Omar
National Conference president and union minister of state for external affairs, Omar Abdullah, today condemned the killing of brother of former law minister Mushtaq Ahmad Lone and said his party workers had become sitting ducks for militants under the Mufti Sayeed government. Expressing shock over the tragic incident of militants gunning down Ghulam Mohiuddin Lone alias Kaka Lone at Sogam, Omar said that the new state government had been deliberately cutting down on the security of his party workers despite the fact that they were the most wanted lot by the militants. "The fact that militants have been after us for long was enough a problem for us but now it is coupled by the vindictive nature of the new state government, whose decisions have reduced my party workers to sitting ducks for militants to come and kill," Omar said.
I don't know if this is a political problem — Mufti being reluctant to spend state money on providing bodyguards for politicians — or just one that's endemic to Kashmir, where the Pak-backed crazed killer brigades have been bumping off pols with abandon and glee for years. The NC pols have a point, that the Bad Guys consider them prime targets. On the other hand, it'll soon be Mufti's party's turn in the barrel, if it hasn't started already. It might be a really good idea to go back to providing security for politicians from both parties.

Six Lashkar gunnies no longer ticklish in Kashmir...
Six militants believed to be of Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in Baramulla district of north Kashmir. The incident occured just 24 hours after Lashkar-e-Toiba declared four days unilateral cease-fire in the state in order to allow the people to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr without any hassle.
"Nope. Nope. Not gonna kill nobody. Nope."
Police said, a party of 49- Gorkha Rifles were on a routine patrol when they saw a person moving under a suspicious manner. The troops immediately arrested him for questioning. During interrogation,
... "Ow! Get off my head! I'll talk! I'll talk!" ...
he revealed that he was a local guide of militants and a group of militants were trying to enter the area. The troops immediately laid an ambush and when militants tried to pass the area, they were asked to surrender. As the ultras refused to lay down their arms
"You'll never take us alive, coppers!"
an encounter took place leading to the death of six militants. Police said, four of the militants were Pakistani nationals and two were locals. The identity of the militants could not be immediately ascertained.
So how'd they know they were Paks?

Al Qaeda website says new goal is destruction of Israel
An Internet site claiming to represent Al-Qaeda says the network has decided to launch suicide attacks against a new target, Israel, and says its goal is the destruction of the Jewish state. US government officials said they believe the Web site, www.mojahedoon.net, indeed speaks for Al-Qaeda. News of Al-Qaeda’s new anti-Israel focus comes a week after two terrorist attacks against Israeli interests in Kenya believed to be carried out by Al-Qaeda.

Intended boomer nabbed near Tulkarm...
IDF troops in the West Bank village of Atil near Tulkarm arrested an Islamic Jihad man on his way to carry out a suicide attack Saturday, Israel Radio reported. According to the radio troops from the paratrooper brigade went into the village following specific alerts of a bomber on his way to carry out an attack in Israel. The army said the 28-year-old man was wearing a 15 kg explosive belt when he was apprehended. The soldiers safely detonated the device.
Probably without detonating its wearer with it...

Islamic Jihad snuffie iced near Jenin...
A man identified by the IDF as an Islamic Jihad terrorist was killed in the village of Silat al Hartiyeh, west of Jenin, late Friday night. Abdel Haddi al-Omari was killed after fleeing from undercover Border Policemen who arrived in the village to arrest him, the radio said. The IDF said the soldiers fired warning shots in the air and called on him to stop. When he continued to run, they shot and killed him. Soldiers found an M-16 rifle next to his body.
Alas, poor Abdel... IJ will no doubt vow dire revenge. I'm sure they'll give him a good send-off the Virginland, though...

Qaeda in Gaza? Lies! All lies!
Palestinians continued on Saturday to reject Israeli claims that al-Qaida members were operating in Israel, saying however, that they had uncovered Israeli collaborators calling themselves al-Qaida.
"Yeah! It wuz them Jews!"
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat (1929-2002?) called Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's claim of al-Quaida agents operating in the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon "a big, big, big, big lie to cover his attacks and his [Sharon's] crimes against our people everywhere, from Rafah to Jenin and in between."
"Yeah. An' they doctored that website, too!"
Senior Palestinian official Saeb Erekat said it was part of Sharon's campaign to sway left-wing voters before the Jan. 28 elections. Erekat said Sharon's comments were "unfounded and baseless... There is no such thing as al-Qaida in Gaza and the West Bank, there are 3.3 million Palestinians who are living under the Israeli occupation seeking their freedom and independence."
"And turbans. They want turbans, too."
Rashid Abu Shbak, the Palestinian chief of preventive security in Gaza, said his forces had discovered Palestinian "collaborators" who had been ordered by Israeli security agencies to "work in the Gaza Strip under the name of al-Qaida." He said the investigation was ongoing and evidence would be presented soon.
"Y'see, if you beat 'em long enough, they'll say anything you want 'em to. But y'gotta keep working on them, or it'll wear off..."

Al-Qaida Organization Of Palestine Is Announced, Warns of Attacks
Source: Mojahedoon.net
A statement published on the Arabic forum www.mojahedoon.net has announced the creation of "The Islamic Al-Qa'ida Organization in Palestine" to "serve as a powerful basis for restoring the rights of our Arab and Islamic people in Palestine, and will defeat the Zionist Jewish invaders".

We remind our viewers that the statements, opinions and points of view expressed in this statement are those of the author and shall not be deemed to mean that they are necessarily those of Jihad Unspun, the publisher, editor, writers, contributors or staff.
Or even of anybody they know...
"Brothers in Islam, from the land of the Night Journey and the Ascension to Heaven, we announce to the Islamic nation the establishment of the Islamic Al-Qa'ida Organization in Palestine, which will serve as a powerful basis for restoring the rights of our Arab and Islamic people in Palestine, and will defeat the Zionist Jewish invaders [and] return them to the place from whence they came. We declare that the squadrons of our martyrs will strike with all their strength at the Zionist and American arrogance in the region, and that the blood of our men in Palestine, in Afghanistan, and in Kashmir will be shed unavenged.

Islamic Al-Qa'ida in Palestine joins its voice with the voices of the mujahideen in Palestine in its resistance to the partial and submissive solutions, and will accept nothing but the full liberation of the Palestinian land. Similarly, we call to the mujahideen in the Al-Nusseirat camp in the Gaza Strip to immediately stop the fighting between Hamas and the people of the Palestinian Authority, because these deeds serve only the murderous Jews, the Great Satans. From the land of the Night Journey we again declare a vow of allegiance to the Emir of the mujahideen, the leader Osama bin Laden, by means of whom Allah strengthened the Nation of Islam.

Brothers in Islam, the Jihad against the heresy and its regimes and symbols has arrived. The mujahideen of the Nation must rid themselves of the regimes of heresy and deception in our Arab countries. We call on our brothers in Islam in Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia to attack the American interests and the heretical institutions of apostasy. Allah willing, we will be the victors!"

"Death to the Jews and Zionism; strength to Allah, Allah is great, and victory to Islam!"

Explosion kills man and his nephew in south Lebanon
A bomb killed a former Lebanese intelligence agent and his nephew as they drove along a southern Lebanese highway on Friday. Ramzi Nohra, 45, who had worked for Lebanese army intelligence and the Iranian-backed Hizbollah guerrilla group, and his nephew, Elie Issa, 30, were killed instantly in a blast that ripped through their Mercedes on a main road near the southeastern town of Hasbaya. Hasbaya legislator Qassem Hashem and the security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, blamed the Israeli intelligence service, Mossad, for the killings.
Practicing for al-Qaeda? Or have the moves already started?
Israeli officials had no immediate comment on the explosion.
Unless you can call a smile a comment...

Palestinians arrest al-Qaeda ’poseurs’
Palestinian security forces have arrested a group of Palestinians for collaborating with Israel and posing as operatives of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda terrorist network, a senior official said yesterday. The arrests come two days after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon charged al-Qaeda militants were operating in Gaza and in Lebanon.
Sounds like the PA doesn't want al-Qaeda to give them an even worse name, so they arrest them and after a few hours with the men with truncheons they admit working for the evil zionists
"The Palestinian Authority arrested a group of collaborators who confessed they were working for Israel, posing as al-Qaeda operatives in the Palestinian territories," said the official, on condition of anonymity. He said the alleged collaborators sought to "discredit the Palestinian people, justify every Israeli crime and provide reasons to carry out a new (military) aggression in the Gaza Strip." The official did not say how many suspects had been arrested, nor where or when they were nabbed.

Sharon's announcement marked the first time Israel officially claimed that al-Qaeda, held responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, was operating in the Palestinian territories. It was considered a surprise because the Gaza Strip is virtually sealed off by Israeli troops.
That is a bit odd, although Debka claims they ahve been infiltrating in through the mediteranean by small boats, plus there are plenty of tunnels along the border with Egypt
The hardline Israeli leader also charged other members of the terror group were cooperating with Lebanon's Shi'ite militia Hizbollah.
It's possible, but I don't think the Iranians and Syrians let their proxies get involved in something that might rebound on them
The Palestinians slammed the allegation as "totally absurd" and accused Sharon of trying to piggyback on the US-led "war against terrorism" to strengthen his military operations against militants in the territories. Both the Lebanese government and Hizbollah made similar statements.

Indonesian police nab two over McDonald's blast
Police said on Saturday that they have arrested two possible suspects in the bombing of a McDonald's restaurant and a car dealership in central Indonesia, according to a news report. The explosion on Thursday night at a McDonald's in the South Sulawesi provincial capital of Makassar killed three people and injured two. About an hour later, a second explosion in Makassar tore through a car dealership owned by Indonesian Welfare Minister Jusuf Kalla, damaging four cars but causing no injuries. South Sulawesi Police Chief Brigadier-General Firman Gani told the private SCTV station on Saturday that two men have been arrested and are being questioned about the bombing. He said the two are possible suspects but he refused to release their names or say where or when they were detained. Police on Friday said that they had detained 15 people for questioning.
The Indon coppers seem to be on a roll lately. Wonder if the court system will follow suit, or if the judges will stay bought? I'm wondering if this one might be crooks instead of terrorists, though, with the McDonald's blast a diversion from the politician's used car lot getting hit.

Ten Abu Sayyaf beat it for Sabah...
At least 10 members of the Abu Sayyaf Muslim kidnap group have fled the southern Philippines for the Malaysian state of Sabah by speedboat, according to an intelligence report on Saturday. The 10 sneaked out of Patikul town in the island of Jolo in recent days, fleeing a military offensive on the island, a stronghold of the gang. The group headed for Sabah includes those who took part in the kidnapping of Filipino, Malaysian and Western hostages from dive resorts in Sabah two years ago, it said. Most of the captives were later freed, allegedly after ransom was paid.
Abu Sayyaf has always leaned much more toward the "crook" side than toward the "insurgent" side. A hundred years ago, they'd have been referred to as "pirates."
Malaysian authorities, who have been told of the development, have reportedly stepped up patrols in the maritime border with the Philippines.
Hopefully, they'll intercept them and just blow 'em out of the water...
Meanwhile, Abu Baidar, an alleged member of the group, was captured on Friday in a remote village on Basilan island after residents tipped off the military to his presence, Basilan army commander Colonel Bonifacio Ramos said. He said that Baidar is suspected of taking part in the raid on the Dos Palmas resort in May 2001 when the Abu Sayyaf seized 17 Filipinos and three Americans.
Looks like they might finally be getting down to the dregs on the whole Abu Sayyaf problem.
