#7  TW, they actually go in the bottom. Specifically, the cartridges are loaded into a magazine, a sort of narrow detachable box with the cartridges stacked vertically in single file. The magazine is then loaded into the bottom of the grip, the handle thingy on the left. You can just see the bottom of the magazine protruding below the grip.

#9  TW - that works, but open is better. ;-p

Years ago, an acquaintence took me to his (outdoor) shooting range, and I eventually talked him into letting me fire his .44 mag. (He was ostensibly teaching me to fire my .357.)

I fired off a couple of shots, and he not-too-gently suggested I would hit the target more often if I kept my eyes open when I fired. :-D (I didn't even realize I had them closed.) He was right.

Eventually he let me fire it one-handed (with both his hands just below the gun to catch it, since he was sure I was going to drop it - I didn't). No, it doesn't "kick" like in the Dirty Harry movies, though it has a little more kick than my .357. He would never let me fire his hot-loads, though. :-(

I've gotten muuuuch better since then. :-D

#10  Actually, Ms. Wife, you probably want to use special glasses when shooting. While chances are something won't go wrong, IF something does, safety glasses work much better than trying to close your eyes real fast.

(I've learned that from experience, although not with firearms).

#11  Well Duh, ask any Redneck, we'll be more than happy to give instructions in owning, safe handling, clening and marksmanship.

Do NOT forget to bring plenty of ammo for target practice. 1000 rounds is a good start, by then you should be able to hit the target and not lose any toes, (Mine or yours).

You may even come up to our exacting "one round, One kill" minimum standards if you start young enough, say starting about 8 years old with a "Red Ryder" BB gun and going up from there.

If you've not owned and shot a .22 Single shot by age 10. there's little hope for getting over one kill with three bullets, a pretty poor showing in these parts.

Ummm, Definition of "Vegitarian", Lousy Hunter. We eat meat.

#13  Ummm, Squeaky Revolvers don't have "Safetys"
Many single shots don't either.

Do NOT rely on anything except your own brains, mechanical devices do fail, you're far better off pretending that "Safetys" do not exist.

None of my weapons are on "Safety" far better to not have a round chambered. All weapons I own ARE loaded and NOT on "Safe" you also won't find a trigger lock (Deadly devices) anywhere near any of my weapons, we teach the children to be safe, not rely on phony devices, if you feel that a Trigger lock is needed, you don't need to be anywhere near firearms of any description.

Couple pleads guilty in Wendy's finger case
A Nevada couple pleaded guilty Friday to all charges related to planting a human finger in a bowl of Wendy's chili in a scheme to extort money from the fast food restaurant chain. Anna Ayala, 39, and Jaime Placencia, 43, pleaded guilty in Santa Clara County Superior Court to conspiring to file a false claim and attempted grand theft from the Dublin, Ohio-based Wendy's International Inc., which claimed it lost $2.5 million in sales because of bad publicity. Ayala also pleaded guilty to defrauding a woman by selling a motor home she didn't own, and Placencia also pleaded guilty to failing to pay child support. Ayala faces up to nearly 10 years in state prison when sentenced Nov. 2. Her husband faces up to 13 years behind bars.

Europe
Schroeder gains further on nervous conservatives
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder gained further ground on challenger Angela Merkel in a poll on Saturday and conservatives feared they could again squander a big poll lead to lose another general election.

With just days left before the election on September 18, a new survey on Saturday by the Emnid institute for Focus magazine showed the Christian Democrats (CDU) falling another 1.5 points to 40.5 percent in the last week while Schroeder's Social Democrats (SPD) leapt 3.5 points more to 34 percent.

The SPD has gained 8 points in the last month while the CDU lost 3 points. The CDU led by as many as 23 points in late June. The CDU and their likely coalition partners, the Free Democrats, have now slipped about two points below a majority they would need to take power.
Rest at link.

#1  Pins and needles.
Posted by: badanov || 09/10/2005 13:06 Comments || Top||

#2  No surprise here. Both parties are wedded to the welfare state. Schroder lost a lot of popularity because he was dismantling the welfare state. The CDU is trying to mask the fact that it will continue Schroder's work by pointing to other issues, such as the potential Turkish accession to the EU. Ultimately, however, bread-and-butter issues could prevail. And that is the CDU's main worry. Germany is an example of how democracy and capitalism are uncomfortable bedfellows - politicians use handouts to pander to and create ever more demanding constituencies, and keep on raising taxes until the state's resources are tapped out, whereas businessmen are suffocated by the complex of taxes and regulations put up to shelter those political constituencies.

#3  Remember the "Contract With America"?

The reality of CWA was that it clearly and succinctly stated what the republicans who signed on would do if elected.

It mattered less what it promised, then the *clarity* of the promise.

Voters love clarity in elections. They also know that politicians fear and abhor clarity. So if you find a politician who is willing to stand up and *clearly* state what he believes and which way he will vote, he will persuade LOTS of people to vote for him.

Despite what ideologues say, voters are fairly indifferent to most issues, so elect those who convey clarity of message as much as those who appeal to one big thing.

So this is what the CDU in Germany needs to do to regain dominance. Create a clear message and stick to it. Define the debate on that message, not on the SD's platform.

#4  Domestically, Schroeder has been acting like a leader lately. May be that could explain the slight increase in his popularity: made a deal with Putin regarding natural gas pipelines that would run under the Baltic, by-passing some eastern European countries thereby eliminating certain risks and costs; basically told the Polish president to STFU, saying that German interests will be decided in Berlin*. This has to be popular with the public.

*which just further demonstrates what a sham the whole EU is turning out to be, but that's another topic ;-)

#6  I hope so, CA. The problem is that their media are even more monolithically statist than ours. We have alternative channels like FOX, the Washington Times, Rush, and Rantburg that can get the word out more quickly.
I wonder if something like Ratherquiddick were tried over there, if it would have been widely discredited as here.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran Might Send Aid Louisiana, If Requested
From Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Assefi said during a 4 September press conference in Tehran that Iran would send aid to the United States for the victims of Hurricane Katrina if it is requested, state television reported. The aid would go through the Red Crescent Society, Assefi said, adding, "many of the people who have suffered have voiced protests against the relief operations and have said that they have not been helped as well as they ought to have been." Assefi on 30 August expressed condolences ....

Some members of the Iranian public sounded sympathetic in 3 September interviews with state television. "This is a humanitarian crisis," one man said. "In my view, we must help these people. This will be a message from the Iranian government to the people of America. And I believe this will be a positive message." A concerned Iranian woman said: "I heard on the radio this morning that the UN had called for international aid. I want to know how I can help. How can we send aid?"

But the ability of Iranian state media to influence opinions was apparent. "It would appear that the white survivors were given shelter, food, and aid immediately," a man told state television. "You didn't even see black people queuing for food." Another man said people have a duty to help each other but the United States "never fulfilled its pledges after the Bam earthquake." "It sent useless goods," he continued.

Goulish Watch: CNN Wins Suit to Show Dead
Joint Task Force Katrina "has no plans to bar, impede or prevent news media from their news gathering and reporting activities in connection with the deceased Hurricane Katrina victim recovery efforts," said Col. Christian E. deGraff, representing the task force.

U.S. District Court Judge Keith Ellison issued a temporary restraining order Friday against a "zero access" policy announced earlier in the day by Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, who is overseeing the federal relief effort in the city, and Terry Ebbert, the city's homeland security director.

In explaining the ban, Ebbert said, "we don't think that's proper" to let members of the media view the bodies.

#1  Hmmmm...military edict, in a disaster zone, by a guy who really is a general, has some balls, has been given a mission to accomplish, and has the guts to do what has to be done to get his mission accomplished vs Dem-appointed, obviously non-biased, federal judges' edict...

Who's gonna' win this one?

PS. This is so patently obvious an attempt by the MSM to place all the blame for all the deaths on the Bush Administration. The rhetoric is so sad it's not even ridiculous...the problem is it's actually starting to work (I got an off-hand comment from some flake gas station moneychanger in Berkeley last night about how Bush hadn't shown himself to be a leader in the Katrina situation - I couldn't bring myself to comment and made a break for the door - it was _Berkeley_ after all...)

#3  Well, if you can vote multiple times in LA, you can surely die multiple times - it only takes a little bureaucratic sleight of hand - child's play in a place as corrupt as NO.

Bad's certainly right: once a meme is established, due to the aid of the MSM, it's there to stay and will be repeated ad nauseum.

I figure:

1) about 25% will swear by it - just as they do that 9/11 was a hoax or a Jewish plot or a Neocon plot or IllumiNazi plot or... [insert anything you like here, anything at all - someone will believe it, or see profit in peddling it]

2) about 25% will say it's false, but accurate, somehow, though they won't be able to explain how

3) about 25% will wonder (given all the conflicting numbers) and nod politely since they don't feel like arguing with demented raving moonbats

4) and about 25% will sigh deeply, shake their heads, and keep slogging thru the lies.

#4  Any time now, I'm looking for some prominant "black leader" to come out with a great tale, like:
"Legions of alligators,
Swimming down the streets,
Pulling black children out of windows,
Snapping at the unwary hand,
Dipped in the water from some rooftop!

While Dick Cheney, the alligator-master,
Looks on with glee,
And says to his reptillian battallion,
'Come children, there is enough for all!
Feast until you can feast no more!"

And there, upon the riverbank,
A hundred miles,
Bloated alligators danced in files.(*)

#6  First-I don't intend any disrespect or lack of empathy for any of the victims. God give them comfort.

The following thought occurred to me...

Wouldn't it be ironic if more people died in areas of extreme eastern LA and southwestern MS than in New Orleans? The racial implications of that come from a completely different angle, don't they? I don't believe I have ever seen an MSM anchor button his lip, but this might do it.

The current ratio is about 300 outside New Orleans to 100 inside New Orleans. Just curious...

#15  The reported 10K death toll figure was always speculation. Not based on official estimates but mostly on NO Mayor Nagin's predictions. Rather then admit their rush to sensationalism, the WaPo, CNN, etc. is attempting to save credibility by framing this as a "glimmer of hope" story.
Even when the MSM is exposed for creating news instead of reporting it they try to divert attention away. The next spin is already how the Bush Administration is blocking the Free Press from ghoulishly filming the body recovery.

#16  347 so far, compared to over 6,000 at Galveston in 1900. Apparently global warming and George Bush were bigger problems in 1900.
