NATO unmanned drone crashes in E. Afghanistan
(Xinhua) -- An unmanned aerial system of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) crashed Thursday in eastern Afghanistan's Wardak province.

The ISAF confirmed the incident in a press release, noting that the force has recovered the crashed plane.

The aircraft is a lightweight, short-range reconnaissance and surveillance system and contains no weapons or intelligence that could be exploited by "enemy forces", said the press release.

The drone went down due to mechanical problems, it said.

10 Tonnes of Bomb Chemicals found in E. Afghanistan
[Tolo News] Police in Nangarhar province has discovered ten tonnes of bomb chemicals, a statement by Interior Ministry said on Thursday

National police forces have found 10,000 kg of Ammonium Nitrate, which is used in making road-side bombs, in Nangarhar province, the statement said.

Two suspects were detained in connection with the incident, it said.

Meanwhile, a huge number of heavy and small arms weapons were seized in a joint operation in Dehrawud, a district in south-western Uruzgan province.

Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) which are made with chemicals are frequently used by the Taliban to target Afghan security forces and foreign troops.

Road-side bombing is a deadly and easy tactic used by insurgents that annually claim the lives of scores of innocent Afghan civilians and foreign and Afghan security forces fighting insurgency in Afghanistan.

According to the latest report by the United Nations on the Afghan war, more than 80% of foreign troop's fatalities raise from bombings and road-side bombs.

As a deadly summer was anticipated in Afghan war, top commander of foreign forces in Afghanistan acknowledged a surge in troops' casualties.

Administration Shelves The Trial Of Alleged USS Cole Bomber
The Obama administration has shelved the planned prosecution of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the alleged coordinator of the Oct. 2000 suicide attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, according to a court filing.
Clinton wouldn't do anything, and now The One won't bring him to trial
That's after Bambi criticized the Bush administration for not getting this joker to trial quickly enough. How times change ...
The decision at least temporarily scuttles what was supposed to be the signature trial of a major al-Qaeda figure under a reformed system of military commissions.

And it comes practically on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the attack, which killed 17 sailors and wounded dozens when a boat packed with explosives ripped a hole in the side of the warship in the port of Aden.

Military officials said a team of prosecutors in the Nashiri case has been ready go to trial for some time. And several months ago, military officials seemed confident that Nashiri would be arraigned this summer.
Hum — so the prosecution team have evidence, enough to go to trial, but the Obama guys are now actively investigating the case against Mr. al-Nashiri and are developing charges against him.
They'll keep investigating until Mr. Holder feels he can wash his hands on the whole matter, at which point they'll ship Nashiri back to a hero's welcome in Yemen.
"It's politics at this point," said one military official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss policy. He said he thinks the administration does not want to proceed against a high-value detainee without some prospect of civilian trials for other major figures at Guantanamo Bay.
And quoting Mr. Holder in 2008 "With regard to the Cole bombing, that was an attack on a United States warship, and that, I think, is appropriately placed into the military commission setting," Holder said.

Just another situation of this Hope and Change voters bought into.

#2  It is true that this administration is incapable of making a right decision. In any situation, decide what is rational and correct and you may be assured that Obama will do the exact opposite.

That man is the anti Christ.

#3  Not just an execution. That can have unexpected side effects with morale. You don't want enlisted men doing such things. Instead, have a drum head military court performed by an officer first. Hopefully two officers.

1) Ask the accused their name. That is very important, and makes all the difference, legally. 50/50 chance they won't say, but it doesn't matter. It can matter a lot once the shooting is over.

2) State for the record what they are accused of having done. Administrative goodness, which shows you are not just executing civilians at random. No need for witnesses or other evidence.

3) Ask them if they have anything to say in their defense. Weirdly enough, sometimes they do have a legitimate argument. "I was not with them. I was captured by them two days ago, when my unit was attacked. They took my uniform and ID card. My unit will verify my identity."

4) A senior NCO to lead them, and four enlisted men provide the bullets, and the officer administers the coup de grace. Very by the numbers.

The US did this a number of times during WWII, usually with captured spies and infiltrators in Europe. When done properly, unless orders were given prior specifically forbidding it, it is pretty shut and dried.

Bomb hoax forces plane to make emergency landing in Muscat
[Gulf News] A Jet Airways passenger plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Muscat International Airport in the early hours of Friday following a bomb hoax.

An Indian passenger, on board the Boeing 737-800 flight from Kuwait to Mumbai, told cabin crew there was a bomb on board.

"The plane was over Omani airspace and the pilot made an emergency landing at the Muscat International Airport," Riyaz Kuttery, Jet Airways Country Manager, told Gulf News on Saturday.

The plane was checked thoroughly by security guards as soon as it landed. All 152 passengers were taken off and held until the plane was cleared," explained Kuttery, adding

that the airline provided the passengers with refreshments while they waited. "The passengers understood the situation and fully cooperated with the authorities."

The Indian expatriate from Kuwait, responsible for the bomb scare, was taken into custody by the Royal Oman Police, who have yet to reveal his identity.

Jet Airways declined to comment about the passenger. However, sources have revealed he was under undue stress.

It is thought his mental condition could have been unsound. He's now likely to be referred to the public prosecution in Oman.

The Ottawa Three Becomes The Ottawa Four
A fourth person, an Ottawa resident, has been arrested in relation to a terrorism case allegedly plotting to set off homemade bombs in the national capital region.

According to Crown attorney David McKercher, the person was arrested and not charged.

Friday morning, Sher — a former Canadian Idol participant — appeared in court in Ottawa to face accusations that he participated in the allged plot. He was charged with conspiracy to facilitate terrorist activity.

In a press conference Thursday, RCMP accused the three men arrested at that time of participating in a terror group that "posed a real and serious threat to the citizens of the National Capital Region and Canada's national security," according to Chief Supt. Serge Therriault.

Few details have been revealed about the case, which is still developing, but RCMP officers revealed they seized about 50 electronic circuit boards to make what they say were home-made bombs. Attacks would have taken place in about three months, they alleged.

On Esterlawn Private in Carlingwood, police were on hand from 6:30 that morning, shocking neighbours who said the couple who lived at the house were a devout Muslim couple, with a baby, who kept to themselves.
devout muslim, check. isolated, check. so far right on target for homegrown terrorists. Were I a neighbour I'd be expecting it, not "shocked".
A neighbour who lives next door told CTV Ottawa she often heard the couple chanting in prayer.
constant praying, check and done.
"That's the only thing I've ever heard," said the woman, who would only identify herself as Louise.
a number of louise's neighbours report hearing frequent loud arguments as well as the chanting.
Sher, a health care worker, made his awkward 2008 appearance on Canadian Idol as a joke, his friends told media. He performed Avril Lavigne's 'Complicated' for judges while stiffly dancing.
his performance is da bomb. A must-see. Really. note he says he came to canada in 2005 from pakistain - his family says he was born in Montreal.
A must see
Better watch before the franchise Idol pulls this thing

Sher graduated from medical school at McGill University in 2005 and did his residency in pathology at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. He had been on his new job about 4 weeks as a pathologist at the St. Thomas Elgin General hospital.

Former CSIS agent Michel Juneau-Katsuya said professional backgrounds are not surprising, in contrast to popular belief that terrorism arises out of being poor or disenfranchised.

"Unfortunately, this is sort of a textbook copy of the profile that usually we would expect," Juneau-Katsuya told CTV's Canada AM during a telephone interview from Ottawa on Friday morning.
That's because you need an education and free time to become radicalized. If you're poor and have no resources you spend almost all of your time trying to stay alive.

Shoot-on-sight order in Gilgit after heavy firing
[Dawn] A shoot-on-sight order was issued after two rival groups resorted to heavy aerial firing soon after Iftar near Yadgar Chowk here on Wednesday, police said.

Two people were gunned down in the same area on Tuesday. Sources said that paramilitary troops and police came to the area only after the shootout subsided.

More than 70,000 bullets were fired. Three houses were burnt, but there were no casualties.

Gilgit's assistant commissioner told Dawn that the situation eased after the administration called in Punjab Rangers and Northern Area scouts.

Police sources said that no arrest had been made nor did they register any case.

Incidents of firing were also reported from Nagaral, Kashrote, Majini Muhallah and some other parts of the region.

Gilgit has seen a spree of target killings over the past four days. Four people were killed in two days.

#3  "A shoot-on-sight order was issued" Can we get one at our southern border?

If such an announcement were made with much Washington fanfare, it would stop illegal immigration, drug flow, and human slavery. There is much ado about slavery 150 years ago from Washington politicians and bureaucrats and various civil rights groups, but little about slavery coming in from Mexico. There seems to be little concern about muslim trafficking in slavery today.

Iraq
Diala coppers arrest 25 hard boyz, whack gunman
DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq: The Diala police on Thursday arrested 25 wanted persons including an “amir” or leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), killed a gunman from the armed group, defused 14 improvised explosive devices and seized half a ton of a highly explosive material separately, according to a senior security official.

“A police force captured 24 wanted men, including an amir of the AQI, in al-Adhim, al-Khalis district, (15 km) north of Baaquba,” said Diala Police Chief Abdulhussein al-Shimari in statements to Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Bomb squad personnel defused 14 IEDs and seized half a ton of ammonium nitrates, used in home-making IEDs, on the main street in al-Adhim,” he added.
That's a lot of fertilizer ...
Shimari also said that the police, in a separate incident, shot dead an AQI member while attempting to attack a checkpoint in the area of al-Kabba, Baaquba.

Diala was one of the 10 provinces that came under a wave of bloody acts of violence on Wednesday. The province has been rocked by two car bombs in the district of al-Muqdadiya, (45 km) southwest of Baaquba, the detonation of five houses in Buhrez district, (5 km) south of Baaquba, and six IED blasts in Baladruz, (45 km) southwest of Baaquba.

The attacks left 42 persons killed or wounded, including policemen and an employee of the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC).

Baaquba, the capital city of the unrest-ridden province of Diala, lies 57 km northwest of Baghdad.

6 Sawha fighters killed in ambush
[Jerusalem Post] Insurgents killed six members of a government-allied Sunni militia in an ambush northeast of Storied Baghdad on Thursday, police said, offering no respite to a nation still reeling from a spate of attacks on police and soldiers a day earlier that left at least 56 dead.

Diyala police front man Maj. Ghalib al-Karkhi said the government-allied fighters, known as Sahwa or Awakening Councils, were driving near the town of Muqdadiyah around 1:30 a.m. when their car hit an IED. The kaboom killed four of the guards immediately, al-Karkhi said. Gunmen then attacked the two survivors, killing them, he said.

Palestinian militants attack Israeli forces
(KUNA) -- Palestinian militants launched a mortar attack on Thursday on Israeli forces in east-central Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian group said in a release handed out here Thursday morning that they had prevented Israeli forces from trying to advance into east Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza Strip by firing three 60-mm mortar shells on them.

It claimed that some Israeli soldiers were wounded in the attack as Israeli ambulances were seen at the site.

The Palestinian militants said the latest operation came in response to continuing Israeli aggressions on the blockaded Gaza Strip and other occupied Palestinian territories.

The leader of a psy-ops unit was shot and seriously wounded while visiting a village in southern Thailand on Friday. Capt. Pairat Chedcharoensiri said that Vasutha Pongpatima, 40, was shot while he and three other soldiers walked into a house. A terrorist militant hiding in the house opened fire at him then jumped through a window and fled into the forest. Vasutha was shot in the head.
