Former S.C. Gov. Sanford engaged to ex-mistress
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says he's engaged to the Argentine woman he secretly left the state to visit under the cover story he was hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Sanford was a rising Republican political star before he vanished from South Carolina for five days in 2009 to visit his mistress. Reporters were told he was hiking the Appalachian Trail.

The father of four admitted when he returned to South Carolina that he was instead in Argentina with Chapur, who he later called his soul mate. The international affair destroyed his marriage, which ended in divorce from his wife, Jenny.
Nice going Mark. You destroyed your marriage, hurt your life-partner, devastated your children, spat on the promises you made, made yourself a butt of jokes, and wrecked your political career. Sure hope the 'soul mate' is worth it, for however long it lasts.

#1  I suppose if they marry, it is possible that she is his soul mate just found late in life. Unlikely, but it is something to consider. He certainly has given up everything he ever achieved to be with this woman.

#2  i have seen many a 'serial adulterer' in my life. they on occasion marry the woman they were cheating with and later, after a couple years this woman who slept with a married man is surprised that this same man is doing the same thing again with someone else.

#3  my wife's best childhood friend's father was a prof at the local university. Tom had been rumored to have been a 'player' for years.

While my wife was in school, Tom divorced his wife of 20 years (sprung the demand for divorce at the celebration for their 20th anniversary - no class at all) because he had finally found the 'right one' - one of his students. a couple months after the divorce was final they married and the next semester she was completely stunned to find Tom sleeping with a student again.

Seriously, the man proved to you by his actions how much he valued commitment and marriage and you are now surprised? /gobsmacked

#7  When feminists say marriage and monogamy are "outdated, patriarchic ideas," that's modern thinking hard at work. When men act in ways that mirror that sort of thinking, it's because they are dirtbags...

Obama pays tribute to Neil Armstrong -- with a picture of himself

This administration is becoming a bad parody of North Korea with the "great leader".

#1  "With a Picture of himself." - He has to try to work the Muslim contribution in somehow. I suppose a picture of Obama starring at the crescent does it.

#6  So what exactly is he doing here? Staring at the moon? I've seen lots more spectacular ones worth staring at. Waiting for AAA to come jump the limo?
The chopper? The Secret Service to get back from walking the dog?
Kinda dumb.

#10  It's a simple scenario. He's just waiting for TOTUS to get loaded on to the chopper so he can be told what soft drink to order from the steward. Moochelle or Valerie must not be along with him on this trip.

Dutch Liberals, Socialists in close race ahead of vote
The Dutch Liberal Party, the pro-business movement led by Prime Minister Mark Rutte, and the far-left Socialists are neck and neck ahead of a Sept. 12 parliamentary election dominated by the euro zone crisis, two polls showed over the weekend.

The fiscally conservative country is considered a core euro zone member, but the run-up to the ballot has highlighted growing discontent about Europe - in particular over the high cost of bailing out weaker euro zone states and the pressure for belt-tightening at home.

Tropical Storm Isaac Delays U.S. Republican Convention
[An Nahar] A strengthening Tropical Storm Isaac barreled toward Florida and was predicted to become a hurricane on Sunday, forcing a one-day delay to the main events of the Republican convention, after leaving four people dead in Haiti.

With winds reaching 65 miles (100 kilometers) per hour, the storm left Haiti and swept across Cuba late Saturday, with the Miami-based U.S. National Hurricane Center reporting it would probably reach Florida later in the day.

A hurricane warning was in effect for the Florida Keys and parts of the state's southwest coast and the Republican Party announced that severe weather warnings had postponed the start of its four-day gathering in Tampa. The proceedings will now start on Tuesday afternoon instead of Monday.

Early Sunday, the storm was around 205 miles (330 kilometers) east-southeast of Key West, Florida and it was moving northwest at 18 miles (30 kilometers) per hour, with forecasts suggesting it would strengthen over the next 48 hours, the NHC said.

"Isaac is expected to be at or near hurricane strength when it reaches the Florida Keys," the center warned.

Tens of thousands of Republicans will be in Tampa for speeches, parties and the formal nomination of former Massachusetts governor Willard Mitt Romney
...former governor of Massachussetts, currently the presumptive Publican nominee for president. He is the son of the former governor of Michigan, George Romney, who himself ran for president after saving American Motors from failure, though not permanently. Romney's charisma is best defined as soporific, which is probably why he is leading the Publican field. On the plus side, he isn't President B.O...

in November 6 elections.

According to the adjusted plan, the gathering will nominally open Monday and then immediately adjourn to reconvene on Tuesday, when the weather is expected to clear up.

Romney said the delay was necessary given the risk to life and limb.

"The safety of those in Isaac's path is of the utmost importance. I applaud those in Tampa making appropriate schedule changes," he said.

Thousands of convention delegates are housed in hotels along a coastal barrier island, which is likely to bear the brunt of the storm, and a decision was to be made on Sunday whether it will be necessary for them to move to higher ground.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, a Democrat, had earlier sought to calm jitters about the weather, saying the storm might bring heavy rain to Tampa on the first of the four-day convention but would be followed by sunny skies.

"There may be wet shoes, but every day after Monday ought to be fine," Buckhorn told Fox News.
