Afghanistan
Six Afghan Soldiers Killed in Kapisa Blast
Six Afghan soldiers were killed in a roadside kaboom blast in northeastern Kapisa province, officials said on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the Alasay district of the province, when the soldiers were returning to their post after a firefight with a group of snuffies in the district late on Monday, said Gen. Dawlat Waziri, the Deputy Defence Ministry Spokesman.

"Unfortunately, their vehicle hit a roadside kaboom which killed six soldiers," he said.

He says that five snuffies including their leader were killed in the firefight.

No group including the Taliban has grabbed credit for the bomb.

Recently, Afghan cops have launched military operations in the country to clear the snuffies before the holding of the April elections.

Shaboobs retreat from Galgaduud’s Ceel-Buur district
Al Shabaab recently began to retreat from territories and districts in some of the country’s regions. The individuals who inhabit some of the locale, spoke to Radio Shabelle in Mogadishu and informed them that Al-Shabaab moved their property from Ceel-Buur district in Galgaduud region after Shabelle Radio confirmed with another news station in the vicinity.

Al-Shabaab displaced themselves to a different place after they fled Bay, Bakool & Galgaduud regions, and today transfered their belongings somewhere else after Ethiopian troops are rumoured to be advancing in some of Galgaduud’s districts.

Officials from the Somali government spoke to Radio Shabelle and said that Ceel-Buur district has been wiped clean of Al-Shabaab after dreading assaults from Ethiopian troops serving under the African Union’s AMISOM mandate to work against combating Al-Shabaab.

Gedo Commissioner: we will wipe Al-Shabaab from region
Mohamed Abdi Kaliil, Commissioner of the Gedo Regional Administration of the Somali government, after giving an interview to Radio Shabelle in Mogadishu, stated that recently in his region the Ethiopian troops have started advancing against the Al-Shabaab movement.

The Gedo Regional Administration Commissioner added that the Ethiopian troops are serving under AMISOM working alongside Somali peacekeepers to protect Somalia against Al-Shabaab, by wiping them from territories and provinces they were hiding in the region.

In the past, territories and vicinities of the Gedo region have been simultaneously attacked by high-ranking members of Al-Shabaab’s fighters.

Al Shabaab defector kills Jubaland security forces commander
KISMAYO -- The commander of Somalia's Jubaland security forces Isse Mohamed Allaki (Isse Kamboni) was gunned down by Al Shabaab defector in the southern port city of Kismayo on Monday evening, Garowe Online reports. According to witnesses, the attacker fired live ammunitions at late Isse Kamboni and his security escorts. Jubaland officials said via telephone from Kismayo that two of his body guards were also killed in the pre-planned attack.

"The killer is former Al Shabaab fighter, he gunned down Isse and two of his bodyguards. One bodyguard sustained serious injuries to his upper body but he later died of gunshot wounds at Kismayo General Hospital," an official within Jubaland administration told Garowe Online News Agency.

Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group claimed credit for the attack in a recorded statement, saying they killed Isse kamboni in a planned attack by a special division from Al Shabaab.

Jubaland gained its recognition form Mogadishu-based Federal government after intense bilateral talks in Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa in August 2013.

Bani Walid Local Council suspends work after flag-burning incident
[Libya Herald] Bani Walid Local Council has suspended work after a group of Qadaffy's supporters burned independence flags on Sunday.

"A number of the independence flags were burnt the day before the third anniversary of the 17 February Revolution by a group of criminals who still support the former regime," a member of Bani Walid Local Council, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, told the Libya Herald.

He confirmed that pictures and reports that had been circulated on social media networks were genuine and the incident was not just a rumour.

The town was not ignored by the government, he said, pointing out that, as part of a security boost, the government had provided 102 police cars to Bani Walid.

The town, however, continued to struggle with problems caused by Qadaffy loyalists from Bani Walid and some displaced people from Misrata, Tawergha and Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, he said. He called on the government to take swift action to arrest them, as they destabilised security.

Even though he had been a political prisoner under the old regime, he said, he felt more scared now than he had before.

Two arrested over manufacturing bombs in Mohandiseen
[Egypt Independent] Two suspects in Bula al-Dakrour were nabbed

by security forces in Giza on Tuesday for allegedly manufacturing bombs.

According to investigations, the defendants assaulted a first lieutenant in Mohandiseen, seized his weapon and tear gas gun and burned a police car near al-Said Club in Mohandiseen last month.

The security forces arresed three suspects last week in a car on the Ring Road at Waraq neighborhood. Investigations found bombs in their possession which they allegedly intended to use at checkpoints on the Ring Road and Leb Square.

According to investigations, the defendants admitted they formed two cells to manufacture bombs and target police facilities and personnel in Giza.

Investigations carried out under the supervision of Head of Giza Security Directorate Major General Kamal al-Daly identified four other suspects in addition to those arrested on the Ring Road. Two of them were arrested on Tuesday and the other two are currently being hunted.

The two defendants have reportedly confessed to manufacturing the bombs, possessing Molotov cocktails, assaulting security forces in Mohandiseen and mobilizing pro-Moslem Brüderbund marches.

43 Moslem Brüderbund members in Fayoum over charges of storming and burning cop shoppes, police vehicles and the governorate's managing headquarters.

One of the arrested allegedly possessed military and police attire, sprays that cause temporary paralysis, four bombs that were still in the process of being manufactured.

Fayoum Criminal Court had released former MP and FJP leader Samy Salama al-Noamany on LE20,000 bail.

In Beni Suef, nine Moslem Brüderbund protesters were detained 15 days pending investigation over charges of protesting without a permit and joining a banned group.

The security forces dispersed two limited marches in the cities of Fashn and Beni Suef in Beni Suef Governorate, Monday, arrested a number of participants and referred them to prosecution.

Egyptian terrorists warn tourists to leave or face attack
CAIRO -- A terrorist militant Islamist group has warned tourists to leave Egypt and threatened to attack any who stay after February 20, raising the prospect of a new terrorist front in a fast-growing terrorist insurgency in the biggest Arab nation.

The Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis terrorist group,
who?
Them. They've been busy recently.
which claimed responsibility for a suicide terrorist bombing that killed two South Korean tourists and an Egyptian on Sunday,
Splinters...
made the statement on an affiliated Twitter account.

"We recommend tourists to get out safely before the expiry of the deadline," read the tweet, written in English, which Egypt's prime minister said on Tuesday aimed to undermine the political process begun after an army takeover in July.

Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis has said that it does not post statements on social media sites, but statements that appeared on the Twitter account in the past have afterwards surfaced on jihadist websites which the terrorist group says it does use.

Islamist terrorists militants have killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers since the army deposed Islamist president Mohamed Mursi seven months ago, but Sunday's terrorist attack on a tourist bus marks a tactical shift to soft targets that could devastate an economy already reeling from terrorism political turmoil.

State television quoted Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi as saying Ansar was a threat to tourists. It aimed, he said, to derail the roadmap to elections unveiled by the army when Mursi's fall provoked the bloodiest internal crisis in Egypt's modern history.

Ansar has said it was behind Sunday's terrorist suicide bombing near the resort of Taba, which revived memories of an Islamist terrorist insurgency in the 1990s including a 1997 bloodbath at Luxor, when 58 foreign tourists and four Egyptians were killed at a pharaoh's temple.

On Monday, Germany's foreign ministry changed its travel advice, telling travellers to be cautious about going to Egypt. It specifically discouraged travel to the Nile Delta outside the urban centers of Cairo and Alexandria and to the Nile Valley south of Cairo to north of Luxor.

Tourism was a major employer and accounted for more than 10 percent of gross domestic product before the revolt. Visitors are again sharply down since army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi deposed Mursi, Mubarak's successor.
It was down under Mursi as well. Tourists can go elsewhere and they are...
Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, Egypt's most active Islamist terrorist militant organization, has threatened to topple the interim government installed by Sisi, who is expected to run for president.

Ansar enjoys tacit support from at least some of the marginalized Bedouin community and smugglers in the Sinai. This has enabled them to survive several army offensives in the largely lawless peninsula.

"Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis poses the most formidable terrorist security threat in current-day Egypt," said Anthony Skinner, Middle East and North Africa director at risk analysis firm Maplecroft. "This is not only reflected in the attack on the tourist bus in Taba last weekend, but also in the series of bombings in the Nile Valley and Nile Delta regions."

In one of the boldest terrorist attacks claimed by Ansar, a terrorist car bomb killed 16 people at a security force headquarters in the Delta city of Mansoura on December 24. The attack was claimed on the same Twitter account before terrorist jihadist sites carried the statement.

The terrorist group has extended its reach beyond the Sinai to cities including Cairo, where it claimed responsibility for an assassination attempt on the interior minister. The terrorist group also said it was behind the shooting death of an Interior Ministry general.

"This statement, if genuine, would add tourism quite explicitly to the target set already outlined by Ansar, which includes security forces and economic interests of the state and the army," said Anna Boyd, an analyst at London-based IHS Jane's.

An army source told Reuters that the latest attacks were a reaction to a military offensive which was hurting militants. "They are breathing their last breath," he said.

Eight Die as African Troops Clash with Militia in C.Africa
[An Nahar] Eight people, including six civilians, have been killed in a firefight between African peacekeepers and fighters from the mainly Christian "anti-balaka" militia, a police source said Tuesday.

Troops of the MISCA African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
force clashed Sunday with anti-balaka militias at Cantonnier, near the border with Cameroon, a gendarmerie source in the western town of Bouar told AFP .

"The provisional toll is eight dead -- two anti-balaka and six civilians," the source said.

A MISCA source confirmed that an incident took place near the frontier pitting African troops against the anti-balaka (anti-machete) fighters in "circumstances that are not yet clearly known".

"No MISCA soldier was hit during this incident," the source added.

The clash occurred at a checkpoint erected by the anti-balaka when a MISCA patrol refused to comply with the demands of the militiamen, the gendarmerie source said.

Subduing the anti-balaka forces, who emerged last year to wreak havoc on the strife-torn country's Moslem minority, is one of the priorities for African and French troops sent to help restore order amid bloody chaos.

Transitional President Catherine Samba Panza has vowed to "go to war" on the anti-balaka, who claim to seek vengeance for atrocities committed by a mainly Moslem rebel alliance, the Seleka, which temporarily seized power in March last year.

The Seleka coup plunged the country into chaos, unleashing a wave of Moslem-Christian violence that has left thousands dead. Hundreds of thousands of people have also been displaced by the brutal surge of killings, mutilations, rapes and looting.

With the intervention of French and African troops, the security situation is gradually improving in the southern capital Bangui but the unrest has continued unabated in other parts of the country.

Former Seleka rebels are blamed by local residents for killing at least 22 people in the western town of Bang since last Thursday, according to Florent Geel, the Africa director of the International Federation for Human Rights, who was visiting Bangui.

"The assailants looted administrative buildings and places of worship," Geel said.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
other local sources said that the violence was carried out by men following Abdel Kader Baba Ladde, a Chadian former rebel leader who has been on the run since 2012. His fighters fell back into western CAR and some were said to have joined the Seleka.

"On Sunday morning, we heard shots in several parts of Bang. Baba Ladde's men started firing in the air, putting people to flight," local farmer Martin Himi Dana told AFP by telephone.

"On the ground, we counted two people dead. They detained seven other people and forced them to leave with them. The bodies of these seven people were found yesterday with bullet wounds a few kilometers (miles) from Bang," Dana added.

11 separatists killed in south Yemen
Eleven people, including five Yemeni soldiers and three separatists, were killed in a gun battle on Tuesday in the city of Daleh, the latest violence to hit the country’s volatile south.

A military official said that terrorists gunmen ambushed an army convoy near the office of the local government in the southern city, attacking the military vehicles with anti-tank rockets and automatic rifles. They “killed five soldiers, including an officer, and wounded eight others,” the official said.

A southern activist said three of his comrades died in the fighting while 20 people were wounded, mostly civilians. The activist said terrorists militants torched a military vehicle and captured 15 soldiers during the confrontation, after three others were taken hostage in a clash on Monday.

Separatists in the formerly independent south had boycotted a national dialogue that agreed last month to transform Yemen into a federation in a bid to address local grievances that have fuelled unrest across the Arab world’s poorest country.

Explosion hits military bus in Yemen; 2 killed
Military officials said an explosion has struck a military bus in the Yemeni capital, killing two troops. The officials said another 10 people were wounded in the Tuesday morning blast, which happened as the bus passed through the Hizyaz district south of Sanaa, taking soldiers to work.

The officials are investigating whether the explosion was caused by a bomb hidden on the bus, a roadside device or a suicide bomber.

Earlier this month, two soldiers were killed and more than 10 wounded in a blast targeting a military bus in Dar Silm district in Sanaa.

Identified as Rasel Bin Sattar Khan, a final year student of jute technology department at Tangail Textile Institute, the youth was arrested early yesterday at a mess in Majhipara area under Mirzapur upazila of Tangail.

RAB said they had recovered three mobile phones, two laptops and some jihadi books from his possession. Rasel is the son of Abdus Sattar Khan of Kaliganj in Gazipur.

After the arrest, the 21-year-old youth was taken to Dhaka and a press briefing was held at the RAB headquarters in Uttara. The detainee was allowed to speak before the media.

Rasel said: "I am responsible for the publicity of the clip.

"I got notification about it from a Facebook page 'Dawa illallah' after I liked the page. Later I posted it on two pages -- amardeshvabna.blogspot.com and islameralo.wordpress.com.

"I liked the page since I have interests in Islamic sites," he said.

He said Rasel's activities showed that he had connections with al-Qaeda and international militancy. "He was also working as their agent."

"Basherkella" having over 6,50,000 subscribers was surfaced after youths launched the unprecedented movement at Shahbagh in February last year demanding death sentence for all war criminals and a ban on Jamaat-e-Islami

and its students' wing Chhatra Shibir. The page has been campaigning against the war trial and instructed supporters how to attack the government and the pro-liberation people on the streets during demonstrations of the then 18-party alliance.

According to RAB officials, the audio clip (in Arabic, having subtitles in English and photographs in the footage) was first uploaded in "Dawa illallah" over two and a half months ago at 6:30am on November 30 last year.

"But it was publicised in Bangladesh after Rasel uploaded it in different websites on January 14," Ziaul said.

He, however, said they were yet to confirm whether the voice in the clip was of Zawahiri. "We are verifying it."

According to the senior Rab official, "Dawa illallah" is maintained by a Pakistain-based organization named "Bala Media."

Ziaul said after Rasel uploaded the clip in the YouTube on January 14, it was also uploaded in another website named Jihadology.net the same day.

"Though he is a student of jute technology, Rasel has expertise in Information Technology. He is seriously active in Facebook and blogging and uses several IDs."

Rasel also maintained different other pages including "drishtivongi" and "gonotontranipatjak" in which he had uploaded bomb making tips, said the RAB official.

India-Pakistan
Taliban kill senior army officer near Peshawar
[Pak Daily Times] Pak Taliban fighters shot up an army car and killed a senior officer on Tuesday in an attack certain to destroy any prospects of meaningful peace negotiations between the government and the bully boys. An attempt by representatives of both sides to meet and talk peace collapsed a day earlier after Death Eaters said they executed 23 soldiers in Dire Revenge™ for army operations in the volatile tribal regions on the Afghan border. "(The) exchange of fire continues," the army's press wing said in a statement, adding the attack took place near Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.

made peace negotiations with the Taliban a central pillar of his rule but repeated failures to find a compromise have frustrated the nation and prompted calls for tough military action against bully boy strongholds. Efforts to engage the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain have been marked by increasingly surreal scenes this month, with Taliban representatives trying to distance themselves from the violence and both sides issuing acrimonious statements. The army identified the killed senior officer as Major Jehanzeb and said three forces of Evil were also killed. A Peshawar Taliban official confirmed the attack but there was no word from the movement's main front man. "Militants attacked the convoy of a security official in Peshawar and killed one army major," said the official.

#3  I should have mentioned:

adbullah azzam was a 20th century paleo islamic theologian who provided fatwa's that redefined defensive jihad to allow it in conditions that had not previously been justified; he was a mentor to Osama b Laden for a few years

hussein ibn ali was a 7th century leader who is highly regarded by shiites and sometimes thought of as the third (or some say first) iman of the shia; he was killed by the Umayad forces at the battle of karbala; this event is commemorated in the shia ceremonies of ashura - I don't have a clue why a sunni terrorist group is using this name - it is probably a false flag

Lack of Food, Medicine Kills 7 in Syria's Damascus Area
[An Nahar] At least seven civilians have died of hunger and lack of medical care in two days in besieged areas in and around Syria's capital Damascus, a monitoring group said Tuesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said medical sources reported three deaths at the Yarmuk Paleostinian refugee camp in southern Damascus and another four in the eastern Ghouta suburb between Monday and Tuesday.

"Two men, one of them elderly, and a young girl died on Monday after a deterioration in their health as a result of lack of food and medicine in Yarmuk," said the Britannia-based group, which relies on a network of activists and other sources inside Syria.

The camp, a built-up residential neighborhood once home to some 150,000 Paleostinians as well as Syrian residents, has been under a tight army siege for seven months.

The restrictions have led to the deaths of more than 100 people in the camp, much of which has been destroyed by fighting between regime and opposition forces.

The U.N. agency for Paleostinian refugees UNRWA began distributing aid to the camp in mid-January, but operations were suspended on February 8 after fighting erupted.

On Sunday, a Paleostinian official said all non-Paleostinian gunnies had left the camp, but UNRWA said it had not been given permission to resume operations.

On Monday night, UNRWA urged all sides to allow renewed access.

"UNRWA strongly appeals to all parties to give the utmost priority to addressing the hunger, malnutrition and protracted suffering of civilians inside Yarmuk," UNRWA front man Chris Gunness said.

"The authorities and concerned parties can do this by allowing UNRWA unrestricted, uninterrupted and substantial humanitarian access."

In eastern Ghouta meanwhile, the Observatory said a girl, a woman and a man had died on Monday and another man died Tuesday as a result of shortages of food and medicine.

The opposition stronghold was targeted in a chemical weapons attack last August that is believed to have killed hundreds of people.

The attack prompted the United States to threaten military action that was forestalled when Syria agreed to give up its vast chemical arsenal for destruction.

Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said a trickle of aid had entered eastern Ghouta, but not enough to alleviate widespread humanitarian suffering.

"There are some who are less able to resist than others, and people are succumbing for lack of food and medical care. It's a real war crime," he said.

The Syrian army has used siege tactics against a number of rebel strongholds, including the central town of Homs.

Nearly half of the estimated 3,000 people trapped inside the Old City of Homs were evacuated by the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
and Red Islamic Thingy last week and aid was allowed in as the warring sides observed a temporary local truce.

But the operations came to a halt at the end of last week and have yet to resume.

Homs governor Talal Barazi told AFP on Tuesday that humanitarian operations "could restart next week" adding that a truce in place during the aid work "might be extended."

He blamed the interruption of the work on "gunnies inside (the city) who have stopped people from leaving."

Tension Escalates in Tripoli as Army Starts Removing Barricades in Rival Neighborhoods
[An Nahar] Heavy gunfire was reported in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
on Tuesday as tension escalated between the rival neighborhoods of Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh after the army began removing barricades in the rival areas.

According to the state-run National News Agency, the gunshots prompted schools to suspend classes for the day, fearing any escalations.

Media reports said that the Lebanese army began removing the barricades and sandbags from the the rival neighborhoods.

Calm was shortly restored in the city.

Violence regularly erupts between Alawite residents of the Jabal Mohsen neighborhood, who support their co-religionist Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
, and Sunnis from the Bab al-Tabbaneh district, who back Sunni-led Syrian rebels.

Tripoli's population is 80 percent Sunni and 11 percent Alawite -- an offshoot of Shiite Islam -- and violence between the two communities dates back to Leb's 1975-1990 civil war.

But the tensions have been aggravated by the conflict in Syria, and the city was struck by a deadly double boom-mobileing in August that killed 45 people.

Rockets Fired from 'Arsal Outskirts' Hit al-Bazzaliyeh, Nearby Areas
[An Nahar] Rockets fired from the Lebanese-Syrian border landed Tuesday on the outskirts of the Bekaa town of al-Bazzaliyeh and nearby areas.

"At 4:45 p.m., five rockets fired from the Syrian side of the border hit the plain of the towns of Hrabta, al-Bazzaliyeh and al-Labweh in the Baalbek-Hermel district, causing no casualties," the Lebanese Army said in a statement.

"At once, an army force arrived on the scene and took the appropriate measures as a military expert inspected the places where the rockets landed," it added.

Earlier on Tuesday, al-Manar television said four rockets launched from the eastern mountain range landed on the outskirts of al-Bazzaliyeh.

It later reported that "today's rockets were fired from an area southeast of Wadi al-Raayan in Arsal's outskirts, specifically from the ranch of (Mohammedan holy man) Mustafa al-Hujairi, aka Abou Taqiyyeh."
Seriously, Abou Taqiyyeh? That's as bad as when President Obama said to the Republicans, "Don't call my bluff."
"A takfir
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
i group whose name was mentioned many times in investigations into bomb-laden cars is behind the rocket attack on al-Bazzaliyeh," al-Manar added.

Leb's National News Agency reported that the rockets were fired from the Arsal region of Halimat Qara in the eastern mountain range.

A number of rockets had been fired from the Syrian side of the border against the Bekaa since Hizbullah's acknowledgment of its fighting in the Syrian conflict alongside the country's ruling regime.

The "Marwan Hadid Brigades"
...an al-Nusra element working the Syria-Leb border area...
usually claim responsibility for such border attacks.

Man Hurt as Syrian Helicopter Raids Arsal Outskirts
[An Nahar] One person was maimed on Tuesday as a Syrian military helicopter fired missiles at an area in the outskirts of the Bekaa border town of Arsal.

"Mohammed Ali al-Hujairi was maimed when four missiles hit the al-Raayan area in Arsal's outskirts," LBCI television reported.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy was furiously chewing her cud and thinking...
Leb's National News Agency said "a Syrian helicopter waged a strike on the Wadi Ajram area in Arsal's outskirts."

Four missiles were fired at "a convoy of cars carrying gunnies," NNA said.

The raid was the latest in a string of cross-border strikes against Arsal. On January 17, shells rained down on the town, killing eight people, including five children.

A December air raid prompted the Lebanese Army to fire back with anti-aircraft guns.

Earlier on Tuesday, five rockets struck several Bekaa towns, causing no casualties. Al-Manar television said the rockets were fired from Arsal's outskirts.
