Puntland leader calls for more Turkey aid
GAROWE -- The President of Somalia's Puntland Government Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas has called on Turkey government to step up more humanitarian and development assistance in the northeastern region on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.
"And hurry the hell up! I've got payments to make on my Swiss condo!"
Addressing hundreds of Turkish aid recipients in Nugal regional district of Dangorayo where he arrived to warm welcome as part of his first regional tour since being elected to the state's top political job on 8th of January 2014, President Gaas commended Turkey for its role in providing financial and humanitarian aid with the Somali people.

"I extend my profound appreciation to Turkey, we are looking forward to getting more help from [Turkish government]," urged Puntland leader. "Puntland is a peaceful area and we aren't at a stage to receive assistance alone but we are now working on change and progress".

Expressing pleasure over investment opportunities, President Gaas noted that Turkey business community members who are willing to invest in Puntland will be welcomed with open arms.

Turkey didn't heed calls for broad and fair involvement by former Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole as Turkish agencies are undertaking massive development projects in Mogadishu.

TV show sparks terror controversy in Tunisia
[MAGHAREBIA] A recent Tunisian TV programme on terrorism raised reservations among viewers, security officials and even families of slain soldiers who saw the show as justifying violence.

The February 9th episode of "For He Who Dares" on privately-owned Ettounsiya TV drew scorn after it gave airtime to terrorist sympathisers, including the father of alleged Chokri Belaid assassin Kamel Gadhgadhi.

On February 11th, the High Independent Authority for Audio-visual Communication (HAICA) summoned the host of the programme, the legal representatives of the production company and those of the TV station.

Shadowy Ansar militants rattle Egypt
[Beirut Daily Star] A shadowy Islamist krazed killer group based in the remote Sinai desert is emerging as a major threat to Egypt's stability, and there are no signs that the army-backed government has devised an effective strategy to contain it.

With liquidations, suicide kabooms and shootings, Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis has earned a spot on the global jihad map and its bloody campaign spreading across Egypt is cause for alarm in the West, which sees the biggest Arab nation as a strategic partner.

The group has stepped up attacks on coppers and soldiers since army chief Field Marshal Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi toppled Islamist President Mohammad Morsi in July. Hundreds have been killed.

Bangladesh
Quamrul: Jamaat-Hefajat new version of al-Qaeda
[Dhaka Tribune] Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam termed Jamaat- Shibir-Hefajat as a homegrown newer version of al-Qaeda, reports BSS.

He urged everyone to build resistance against them while speaking at a discussion titled 'Who are involved in conspiracy and Al Qaeda activities for foiling peace in Bangladesh' at the Jatiya Press club in the capital on Wednesday.

"The speeches of the leaders of BNP, Jamaat and Hefajat delivered in different times have striking similarity with Tareq Rahman's video footage sent from London and al-Qaeda leader's recent speech," he said, urging: "All to remain alert against these evil forces."

Terming Tareq Rahman as the young agent of al-Qaeda in Bangladesh, the food minister said Jaamat-Hefajat and BNP are the Bangladeshi versions of al-Qaeda, an international myrmidon outfit.

Advocate Quamrul said Tareq Rahman has been working as an agent of al-Qaeda as militancy emerged in the country immediately after Tareq Rahman joined politics.

During the time, the minister said, bomb went kaboom! simultaneously in 63 districts when Bangla Bhai, leader of banned Jama'tul Mujahidden emerged. Bangla Bhai was later hanged to death.

Deshratna Shebok Sangha organized the discussion with its president Chittya Ranjan Das in the chair. Among others, Krishak League vice president M A Karim and AL leader Shahjahan Alam spoke on the occasion.

US diplomat meets Hefazat leaders in Chittagong
[Dhaka Tribune] The political officer of the US embassy in Dhaka, Cathleen Gibilisco, met the leaders of the Islamist group Hefajat-e-Islam
...a madrassa-based false nose and mustache of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, formed in 2010 to protest against secular education. In 2011 demonstrated violentyly against women's rights and in 2013 held large rallies demanding capital punishment of Shahbag Square protesters and banning women working outside the home...
at Hathazari Madrasa in Chittagong yesterday.

Munir Ahmed, press secretary to Hefazat chief Shah Ahmed Shafi, said the US official wanted to know about the 13-point demands of the Hefazat, the organization's ideology and principals and about the Shapla Chattar incident from the Hefazat leaders.

"The US official also wanted to know about the curriculum of the Al-Jamaatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Muinul Islam [Hathazari Madrasa]," he said, adding that their ameer had responded to different queries of the US diplomat.

Munir said the Hefazat leaders asked Cathleen about the observations of the US authority regarding Hefazat, qawmi madrasas and Islamic scholars of Bangladesh; however, she refrained from answering, saying she needed permission of the authority to answer the queries.

Assistant Political Specialist of the US embassy Lubain Chowdhury Masum accompanied Cathleen during the visit.

Hafiz Akhter, superintendent of police in Chittagong, told the Dhaka Tribune that two officials of the US embassy reached Hathazari in the morning to observe the upazila election.

Chihuahua state opens investigation of former attorney general

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

Chihuahua state Fiscalia General del Estado (FGE) or attorney general confirmed Wednesday that his office has opened a criminal investigation of former Chihuahua state FGE, Carlos Manuel Salas, according to Mexican news reports.

A news report which appeared in the online edition of El Diario de Chihuahua news daily said that Jorge Gonzalez Nicolas has begun an investigation into events surrounding the murder of Marisela Escobedo Ortiz in 2010 in which Carlos Manuel Salas may have had a connection.

Manuel Salas became Chihuahua FGE in 2010 with the change in governments.

Marisela Escobedo Ortiz was a Chihuahua personal justice activist who sought justice for her daughter, Rubi Marisol Freyre Escobedo, for two years between 2008 and 2010 only to end on the steps of Chihuahua state government offices, gunned down by an unknown assailant.

Rubi's killer, Rafael Barraza Sergio Bocanegra, had been brought before the court just before Marisela's death, but was released by a three judge panel in 2010. The fiscalia arguing the case in 2010 was Patricia Gonzalez, who had argued the case so poorly, the judges were left with little choice than to release Sergio Bocanegra.

Sergio Bocanegra was gunned down in 2012 in Zacatecas state in a firefight with an army unit, as he and his crew attempted an ambush of an element of the Mexican 53rd Rifle Battalion on a road between General Joaquin Amaro and Tabasco municipalities, on Mexico Federal Highway 54. Four men died in that encounter. Sergio Bocanegra was a known Los Zetas commander whose crew operated in Zacatecas.

Senora Gonzalez herself had spent years under suspicion of a nexus with the Juarez drug cartel, and had even lost her brother, Mario, because a local Sinaloa affiliated kidnapping crew wanted to air a "confession" extracted by a severe beating. Mario was found shot to death in the fall of 2010 after being kidnapped out of his law office in Chihuahua city. Gonzalez has not been charged with any crime since leaving office in the fall of 2010 despite undergoing an investigation with the Procuraduria General de la Republica (PGR) or national attorney general, following her departure.

Current Chihuahua state governor, Cesar Duarte at the time was forced to remove the three judges following the outrage and reaction to the decision to release Sergio Bocanegra.

According to the news account, Gonzalez Nicolas said the investigation will include other Chihuahua state government officials who may have had an involvement into the murder.

Marisela Escobedo Ortiz's death was a tragic coda in which several individuals in her family were killed within a short time of each other. The Friday before her death armed suspects attacked a lumber yard owned by Marsela's husband, Jose Monje Marroquin, burned it to the ground using gasoline and then kidnapped her brother in law, Arturo Monje Marroquin, 37. He was found dead the following day. At the time Chihuahua state government officials denied any connection between the arson and murder and the murder of Marisela.

The following Wednesday Doctor Alfonso Perez Dominguez, 46, was shot to death in San Angel colony in Ciudad Juarez. He was planning to attend the vigil of Marisela. The doctor had no known nexus to any of the crimes related to the murders.

Indications in Mexican press are that the newly opened investigation comes on the heels of an internal investigation of Manuel Salas and his activities relating to his role in fighting organized crime.

A news report which appeared in La Polaka news daily quoted a La Mesa de Seguridad operative, Jorge Contreras Fornelli, who said that dropping crime statistics in Chihuahua state show that it is the new fiscalia, not Manual Salas who should take credit for improvement in the security situation.

Contreras Fornelli is also quoted saying that during Manuel Salas' tenure as FGE, Chihuahua state police were ordered not to act against organized crime, and now that Gonzalez Nicolas is ordering his police to do so, "the results speak for themselves."

Manuel Salas left office in October, 2013.

According to Mexican news account high impact crime in the state has dropped dramatically. A news account appearing in the online edition of El Heraldo de Chihuahua news daily said that double digit year over year drops in murders and kidnappings, and a drop in extortion has been experienced as well.

According to data supplied in the news article murders have dropped by 29 percent, and kidnapping by 31 percent year over year. Extortion has dropped by nine percent over the same period.

Home invasions and business robberies were down modestly, four percent and six percent respectively, while auto thefts were down considerably, 31 percent. Carjackings were also down with that classification taking 15 percent of the total compared to 26 percent over the previous year.

Champ appoints Hamas Adviser to Senior Director at the NSC.
[Atlas Shrugs] President Champ has named Hamas adviser Robert O. Malley the senior director at the National Security Council (NSC). You may recall that Malley was foreign policy adviser to then-presidential candidate Champ in 2007, and was fired from his campaign team in 2008 because of his notorious ties to Hamas, the PLO and other jihadist, anti-Israel groups.

Atlas readers are long familiar with this subversive jihad operative. As early as 2007 and 2008 (and repeatedly throughout the campaign and in my book), I warned Atlas readers of the troubling relationship between Robert O. Malley and Champ.

Robert Malley told the NY Times that he had regularly been in contact with Hamas, which is designated a terrorist organisation by the State Department.

[Malley]was part of the American negotiating team that dealt with Yasser Arafat at Camp David. He has presented a revisionist history of those negotiations since then:
presenting a view that blames Israel for the failures of the negotiations. His version has been radically at odds with the views of Americans and Israelis (including the views of American Middle East negotiator Dennis Ross-also an adviser to Obama- and President Clinton). He has spent years representing the Palestinian point of view, co-writing a series of anti-Israel articles with Hussein Agha-a former Arafat adviser. Palestinian advocate. These have appeared in the New York Review of Books a publication that has served as a platform for a slew of anti-Israel advocates from Tony Judt to the aforementioned George Soros to the authors of the Israeli Lobby book Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer. Malley has also called settlements “colonies” — implicitly condemning Israel as a “colonial” state. His writings have been so critical of Israel that the media-monitoring group CAMERA has a “dossier” on him.

In a July 2001 op-ed (titled “Fictions About the Failure at Camp David”) which was published in the New York Times, Robert Malley (whose family, as noted above, had close ties to Yasser Arafat) alleged that Israeli — not Palestinian — inflexibility had caused the previous year’s Camp David peace talks (brokered by Bill Clinton) to fail. This was one of several controversial articles Malley has written — some he co-wrote with Hussein Agha, a former adviser to Arafat – blaming Israel and exonerating Arafat for that failure.
Pen and phone busily at work.

TTP tries to justify ruthless killing of 23 FC soldiers
[DAWN] As the killing of 23 detained paramilitary soldiers cast a pall over peace talks between the government and Taliban, a front man for the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) said on Monday that the Taliban in Mohmand Agency
... Named for the Mohmand clan of the Sarban Pahstuns, a truculent, quarrelsome lot. In Pakistain, the Mohmands infest their eponymous Agency, metastasizing as far as the plains of Peshawar, Charsadda, and Mardan. Mohmands are also scattered throughout Pakistan in urban areas including Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta. In Afghanistan they are mainly found in Nangarhar and Kunar...
might have avenged the killing of their colleagues.

Talking to Dawn on phone from an unspecified place, Shahidullah Shahid said custodial killings could further complicate the dialogue process.

He alleged that 23 people who were in government custody had been killed over the past three days -- 16 in Nowshera district and seven in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...

"The killing of 16 people belonging to the Mohmand Agency might have enraged the Taliban in the region and they killed the 23 soldiers," he said.

The front man said the government should stop its operation and avoid obstructing peace talks. The TTP wanted sincere and serious talks with the government, he added.

The TTP Mohmand chapter headed by Umar Khalid Khorasani claimed on Sunday night to have killed 23 paramilitary personnel they had captured during an attack on a checkpost in the tribal region in 2010.

The claim could not be verified from security forces and independent sources.

An official in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
said that at least 12 personnel had been missing since the particular incident, adding that the authorities were verifying the record if the missing personnel were among those claimed to have been killed.

Hours before the TTP front man's statement, Professor Ibrahim Khan, a member of the Taliban negotiating team, said at a presser in Akora Khattak that there was a deadlock in talks.

Earlier, a meeting of the two committees scheduled at the residence of Maulana Samiul Haq
...the Godfather of the Taliban, leader of his own faction of the JUI. Known as Mullah Sandwich for his habit of having two young boys at a time...
, chief of his own faction of Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazl is active in Pak politix and Sami spends more time running his madrassah. Both branches sponsor branches of the Taliban, though with plausible deniability...
and a member of the TTP team, was cancelled after government negotiators said it could not be held in the present circumstances.

The Taliban negotiators urged the government to keep the grinding of the peace processor intact because the country could not afford further bloodshed.

Maulana Yousaf Shah, coordinator of the Taliban committee, accused the government of treating the TTP committee members as Taliban and declined to meet them.

Maulana Haq and Professor Ibrahim were in Akora Khattak for the meeting with the four-member government committee, headed Irfan Siddiqui.

Lal Masjid holy man Maulana Abdul Aziz
...nutball holy man who runs the Lal Masjid in the heart of Pakistain's capital. After instigating a rebellion against the state in 2007, he was caught trying to sneak away dressed in a burka. He rejects democracy as un-Islamic, which it probably is...
, another member of the Taliban committee, was not there.

Professor Ibrahim said they were not supporting any side and only trying to restore peace in the country. "Our role is to facilitate the grinding of the peace processor and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
should meet members of the two committees and listen to their points of view," he said.

He regretted that it was the second time that the government committee had cancelled a meeting at the eleventh hour.

Answering to question, Professor Ibrahim said they would ask Taliban about the killing of 23 soldiers.

He clarified that they would not defend TTP's activities because they were not from the Taliban. But he said that the Taliban had explained through the media reasons for their action.

Minister questions Taliban's Sharia
[DAWN] Lashing out at Pak Taliban for slaughtering 23 paramilitary personnel, Information Minister Pervez Rashid on Wednesday questioned whether the hard boys' action was in accordance with the Islamic Sharia.

Speaking to media representatives, he criticized the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) leadership for the inhuman killing of the captive Frontier Cops (FC) soldiers.

"People favouring enforcement of Sharia should tell what treatment captives deserve according to the Sharia ...... and the treatment those (FC men) received was in accordance with the Islamic laws or not," he questioned.

The minister said that TTP's central front man Shahidullah Shahid should have conveyed their reservations to the negotiating team they formed. "But, they didn't do it and firstly attacked coppers in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
and then killed FC personnel," he added.

Taking a strong stand against the home grown hard boys, he said the government also has reservations which the Taliban must address first.

Referring to the 1971's war against India, Rashid said, "Even our rival country treated our 90,000 war captives in accordance with the Geneva Convention." "Did they (Indians) behead even a single Pak soldier," he questioned.

The Pakistain Mohammedan League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader clarified that no one should doubt capabilities of Pakistain's defence institutions in dealing with the Taliban.

"They (defence institutions) have always achieved best possible results when it comes to defending our territorial boundaries or natural calamities and international community endorses it...... Pakistain's armed forces are ranked very high in United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
peacekeeping missions."

Replying to a question regarding the likely military offensive against the bully boys, Rashid ruled out such an action in the near future, saying there were two negotiating committees to deal with the situation.

"We are waiting for Taliban's response to be conveyed to us by our negotiators..... a decision in this regard would only be made after that," said the information minister.

Putting forth their conditions for ceasefire earlier today, Pak Taliban front man Shahidullah said that killing and dumping bodies of TTP members should immediately be stopped.

"The government has killed more than 60 Taliban since the start of the peace talks, in Karachi and the rest of Pakistain, under a secret operation codenamed Operation Root Out," he claimed.

Peace talks between the two sides to end years of violence by the hard boy group reached a deadlock earlier this week after the killing of the 23 soldiers.

The FC soldiers had been kidnapped from Shongari checkpost in Mohmand tribal region in 2010 and were killed in captivity to avenge what Taliban called the custodial killing of their 'fighters' in various parts of Pakistain.

TTP announce conditions for ceasefire
[DAWN] The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) on Wednesday put forth their conditions for ceasefire, days after the bad boy group killed 23 Pakistain army soldiers in Dire Revenge™ for the killing of their colleagues.

Speaking from some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location, TTP front man Shahidullah Shahid said that killing and dumping bodies of TTP members should immediately be stopped.

"Our fighters are being targeted, locked away
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
and killed in fake police encounters. The government's negotiations team should ensure to our committee that this would immediately stop," said the TTP front man.

"The government has killed more than 60 Taliban since the start of the peace talks, in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
and the rest of Pakistain, under a secret operation codenamed Operation Root Out," Shahid said.

Shahid said that a ceasefire may be reached if the government ensures to the committee that their demands will be met.

"The killings of soldiers in Mohmand were in response to the onslaught on Taliban members by security forces during the talks between government and Taliban committees," he added.

Peace talks between to end years of violence by the bad boy group reached a deadlock earlier this week after the killing of the 23 soldiers.

The soldiers had been kidnapped from Shongari checkpost in Mohmand tribal region in 2010 and were killed in captivity to avenge what they called the custodial killing of their 'fighters' in various parts of Pakistain.

Following the killings, a four-member team of government negotiators said it would not be able to carry forward the talks process in the wake of continuing deadly attacks by the bad boys.

The announcement Wednesday came just after a member of the Taliban nominated peace talks committee, Maulana Yousuf Shah, vowed to break the deadlock in negotiations.

"People should not be disappointed as the negotiations process is still ongoing. There was a deadlock before as well but we were able to break it with maturity," Shah told news hounds in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.

"Maulana Samiul Haq
...the Godfather of the Taliban, leader of his own faction of the JUI. Known as Mullah Sandwich for his habit of having two young boys at a time...
is in direct contact with the Taliban. We will restore peace at any cost," he added.

Israel 'willfully sabotaging' peace talks, PLO official tells J Street
[Ynet] Palestinian political leader Hanan Ashrawi meets with J Street delegation in Ramallah. Israel is "willfully sabotaging" US Secretary of State John Kerry's peace efforts, a top Palestinian official told a J Street delegation in Ramallah on Wednesday, Palestinian news agency Ma'an reported.

The self-described "pro-Israel, pro-peace" J Street delegation was led by founder Jeremy Ben-Ami and they met with Palestinian political leader Hanan Ashrawi.

"Israel is willfully sabotaging US Secretary of State, John Kerry's efforts and using the negotiations as a cover to continue with its illegal settlement activities, particularly in and around Jerusalem, and the theft of Palestinian lands and resources, among other violations," Ashrawi was quoted as saying.

Ashrawi briefed the delegation on the ongoing peace negotiations, as well as "Israel's violations of international law and their impact on prospects for peace and on the region."

She urged the Jewish-American delegation to help influence both the US administration and the Israeli government. "For there to be peace and stability, we must move rapidly," Ashrawi was quoted as saying.

Netanyahu: 'Golan divides good from bad.'
[Jewish Press] The Golan Heights "divides the good from the bad," meaning Iran, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday during a visit to the region along with Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon and IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz.

"On the day when talks between the major powers and Iran are being opened in Vienna, it is important that the world sees the pictures from this place, which divides the good that is in the world from the bad," the Prime Minister said.

"The good part is that Israel is saving the lives of those who have been wounded in the daily slaughter that is being perpetrated in Syria," he continued. "This is the true face of Israel. The bad part is that Iran is arming those who are carrying out the slaughter. This is the true face of Iran.

"All of the children who have been injured, to say nothing of those who have been killed, were injured as a result of Iran's arming, financing and training the Assad regime in the massacres that it is perpetrating. From here, I would like to tell the world, today, as the talks between the major powers and Iran are being resumed, that Iran has changed neither its aggressive policy nor its brutal character. Iran is continuing to support the Assad regime which is slaughtering its own people."

Bill legally distinguishing between Christian and Muslim Arabs advances
Coalition chairman Yariv LevinÂ’s proposal to legally differentiate between Christian and Muslim Arabs passed its second and third readings in the Knesset Labor, Health, and Welfare Committee on Wednesday.

LevinÂ’s proposals would identify Christians as a minority group separate from Arabs, most of whom are Muslim, and give them their own, unique representation on the Advisory Committee for Equal Opportunity in Employment Commission.

Kerry Discusses Middle East Peace in Paris Talks
[An Nahar] U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
met Wednesday with Paleostinian president the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
as he seeks progress in his quest for a Middle East peace deal.

The top U.S. diplomat has spent months trying to get the Israelis and the Paleostinians to agree on a framework for resolving their decades-old conflict, but the negotiations have shown little sign of progress, with each side blaming the other.

"We are at an important point in the negotiations where we are engaged with narrowing the gaps between the parties on a framework for negotiations," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.

"It was an appropriate time to spend a few hours meeting with president Abbas to talk about the core issues."

Kerry, who coaxed the Israelis and Paleostinians back to the negotiating table in July after a three-year hiatus, is trying to agree a framework to guide the talks as a late April deadline looms.

U.S. officials insist they are making progress on drawing up the framework, which is due to set out parameters and goals of the negotiations.

Israeli army radio Wednesday reported that Washington was to demand that Israel implement a partial settlement freeze after Kerry presents his framework.

Quoting U.S. negotiators involved in the talks, the radio said the United States was hoping to obtain a freeze on construction in isolated settlements outside the major West Bank blocs, which Israel hopes to retain in any peace deal.

Abbas meanwhile insisted on Tuesday that all issues in the negotiations, notably the refugee question, must be solved in line with international law.

Israel shipping African refugees to Uganda
[The Daily Star - Lebanan]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM: Israel is secretly transferring African asylum seekers to Uganda, Haaretz newspaper reported Wednesday, quoting a senior Israeli government official.

The paper said that over the past month dozens of people agreed to leave for Uganda and some had already departed.

Last June, a state official told the Israeli Supreme Court agreement had been reached with an unnamed third country prepared to take in Africans seeking asylum in Israel.

Interior Minister Gideon Saar said last month 1,500 Africans who entered Israel illegally were due to leave the country by the end of February. The government says that most are economic migrants rather than genuine refugees, but media reports say that few asylum requests have been examined and hardly any approved.

In 2012, rising tensions over the growing number of illegal migrants exploded into violence when a protest in south Tel Aviv turned ugly. Protesters smashed African shops and property, chanting “Blacks out!”

The right-wing government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stepped up moves to expel them, saying they pose a threat to the stateÂ’s Jewish character.

The UNHCR has condemned Israel for ignoring the reasons asylum seekers have fled their countries of origin and for failing to provide “those with protection needs” with “access to refugee status determination.”

Sacked Syria Rebel Chief Rejects Dismissal
[An Nahar] Syria's sacked rebel chief General Selim Idriss on Wednesday rejected his dismissal by opposition leaders and said the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
's whole chain of command needed a "total restructuring."

Speaking in a video statement flanked by several top field commanders of the FSA's Supreme Military Council, the sacked rebel chief said: "We... have been asked to start working on a total restructuring of the SMC."

Idriss lashed out at the opposition's defense minister, Assaad Mustafa, who reportedly backed his replacement on Sunday by Brigadier General Abdel Ilah al-Bashir.

He described Mustafa's decisions as "improvised and individual."

With the alleged backing of Mustafa and opposition chief Ahmad Jarba, the FSA's larger Higher Military Council had on Sunday replaced Idriss, citing the "difficulties faced by the Syrian revolution" in its battle with the regime.

But several rebel leaders criticized the move, with some branding it an undemocratic "coup".

"We consider the removal of... Idriss an invalid, illegitimate decision," said a statement issued by all five top field commanders of the SMC, which Idriss had led from December 2012.

They vowed to continue fighting Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
's regime "under the leadership" of Idriss who was "elected democratically".

Idriss had been voted in by military councils on the ground.

Speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, a well-connected rebel in Syria said Idriss's removal was decided in a "secret meeting" of the Higher Military Council, which many key rebels have abandoned in recent months.

"Regardless of Idriss's shortcomings, this is a military coup," said the rebel.

"The main problem is: why weren't all the military councils called in to vote?"

Idriss had long faced criticism by rebels on the ground for failing to secure more weapons from foreign backers.

But an FSA source told AFP that it was not Idriss's fault that foreign governments had chosen to channel the bulk of their support directly to rebel units on the ground rather than through him.

"General Selim Idriss did everything he could to strengthen the (FSA)," the source said, asking not to be identified.

"The Supreme Military Council has in the past year received only $3 million in assistance," the source added.

This was in addition to "some assistance from a Western country, which then stopped," the source added, without naming the country.

Britannia and the United States suspended their non-lethal aid to Idriss's FSA in December after Islamist fighters seized its warehouses on the Syrian-Turkish border.

But activists on the ground scoffed at the uproar in the SMC over Idriss's dismissal, describing the body as "irrelevant."

"The SMC is very weak and represents nothing in comparison with the big groups fighting on the ground," said Nazeer al-Khatib from Aleppo.

Lebanese Officials Condemn Dahiyeh Attack, Vow to Confront Terrorism
[An Nahar] Lebanese officials strongly denounced on Wednesday the double suicide kaboom that targeted Beirut's southern suburbs, which killed at least four people and injured 100 others and was claimed by al-Qaeda affiliated Abdullah Azzam Brigades
... Leb's current al-Qaeda affiliate, named after a guy whose car the current head of al-Qaeda had boomed...

President Michel Suleiman
...before assuming office as President, he held the position of commander of the Leb Armed Forces. That was after the previous commander, the loathesome Emile Lahoud, took office as president in November of 1998. Likely the next president of Leb will be whoever's commander of the armed forces, too...
condemned the attack, saying: "There can be no salvation from terrorism except through complete solidarity among the people regardless of their political affiliations."

"Terrorism does not differentiate between regions and religions, but it only seeks death and destruction," he added.

Earlier the president had contacted Iranian Ambassador to Leb Ghazanfar Rokn-Abadi to offer his condolences over the bombing that took place near the Iranian Cultural Center.

He also contacted Interior Minister Nuhad Mashnouq and Kuwaiti Ambassador to Leb Abdul Aal al-Qinai.

Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, a member of AMAL, a not very subtle Hizbullah sock puppet...
meanwhile urged the "greatest level of vigilance and caution" in confronting the series of bombings that have targeted Leb.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam slammed the twin kabooms, considering them a "message by the terrorist groups to continue its plot in spreading absurd deaths in Leb."

"Amid the positive political stances... Terrorism once again hit Leb by bombing a safe neighborhood in a message that reflects the insistence of the evil powers to harm Leb and the Lebanese and to create sedition."

He noted that the Lebanese will "respond to it with more unity, solidarity, by holding on to our civil peace and supporting our army and security forces."

Bir Hassan is surrounded by neighborhood that are strongholds of the Hizbullah and have been targeted in multiple kabooms killing civilians.

Leb has been rocked by a string of car and suicide kabooms in recent months, many targeting strongholds of Hizbullah in apparent retribution for its role in Syria.

The group has admitted sending fighters to the neighboring country to battle alongside Syria's Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
against an uprising.

For his part, Hizbullah's Industry Minister Hussein al-Hajj Hassan called on the Lebanese to tighten their grip on national stances and to confront terrorism.

Interior Minister Mashnouq said from the blast scene that the kaboom targets all the Lebanese people and the government will take the necessary measures to tackle the situation.

"The cabinet will take all the necessary measure to end the phenomena of suicide attacks," Mashnouq added.

Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil stressed that "terrorism is targeting all the Lebanese. We must put an end to it."

Labor Minister Sejaan Qazzi said that the suicide kabooms that targeted the area aims at destabilizing Leb, stressing that security should be a priority.

He called on the Lebanese people to be aware of the dangerous stage the country is passing through and to unite in order to confront terrorism.

Head of the Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
MP Michel Aoun
...a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
said via twitter that "gunnies were bothered by the formation of the cabinet after they became convinced that it would fight them."

Al-Mustaqbal
... the Future Movement, political party led by Saad Hariri...
Movement Chief Saad Hariri
Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too.
said that "if the aim behind the attack is to inform the Lebanese that their country isn't immune to terrorism despite the formation of the cabinet then we will hold on to our unity today more than ever."

"We condemn the attacks with the strongest rhetoric," Hariri said in a statement, calling on security forces to pursue the culprits.

He urged the Lebanese for more solidarity and to allow the cabinet to carry out its responsibilities during this delicate situation.

Hariri reiterated calls on the Lebanese to dissociate itself from the conflict in Syria and on Hizbullah to withdraw its fighters from the ongoing war in the neighboring country and to abide by the Baabda Declaration.

Lebanese Forces
A Christian political party founded by Bashir Gemayel, who was then bumped off when he was elected president of Leb...
leader Samir Geagea
... Geagea was imprisoned by the Syrians and their puppets for 11 years in a dungeon in the third basement level of the Lebanese Ministry of Defense. He was released after the Cedar Revolution in 2005 ...
later condemned in a statement the Bir Hassan bombing, calling for Hizbullah to withdraw its fighters from Syria.

"We had previously predicted that the situation in Leb will not change with the formation of a new government," he added.

"The situation will change when the policies of previous governments are altered," he explained.

He demanded that the border between Leb and Syria be controlled in order to thwart the flow gunnies, offering his condolences to the victims of the blast.

Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani
... Grand Mufti of Lebanon and the most prominent Sunni Muslim cleric in the country. An assassination attempt against Qabbani was foiled by Leb internal security forces in 2009 as part of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations in Beirut. In an interview broadcast in 2012, Qabbani stated that Jews were behind secularism, because they opposed the authority of the church, against Christianity. He also suggested that the attacks of September 11, 2001 were orchestrated by Jews in order to justify the persecution of Muslims worldwide. Qabbani is against the legalization of civil marriage in Lebanon. He has issued a fatwa declaring any Muslim politician who approves civil marriage legislation an apostate. Surprisingly, he is not considered very much of a nut by Moslem standards.
also denounced the attack, calling on Salam's cabinet to "swiftly control the situation in Leb and reduce tension and all forms of incitement to confront the upcoming stage as a one hand.

Head of the Phalange Party
The Kataeb (Phalange) party was founded by Pierre Gemayel in 1936, who modeled the party after Spanish and Italian Fascist parties he had observed as an Olympic athlete during the 1936 Summer Olympics held in Berlin, then Nazi Germany. The movement's uniforms originally included brown shirts and members used the Nazi salute. Despite the party's uniform, its strong sense of nationalism and dedication to a single charismatic leader, the Lebanese Kataeb was not and never became a fascist party nor did it espouse a totalitarian ideology.
Amin Gemayel said: "The Bir Hassan bombing is a bloody message aimed at terrorizing the new cabinet that is an embodiment of national will."

"The best way to respond to the bombings lies in activating government work and seizing control of the security situation," he added.

Iran Blasts Beirut Bombings, Blames Israeli 'Agents'
[An Nahar] Iran's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday condemned a double suicide boom-mobileing near an Iranian cultural center in Beirut, blaming Israeli "agents" for the attack that left four people dead.

"There is no doubt that perpetrators of this terrorist act are the enemies of stability, security and unity of Leb," ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said in a statement carried by the official IRNA news agency.

"(They) are agents of the Zionist (Israeli) regime who have been frustrated by the formation of a new government that includes all parties and tribes in Leb," she added.

At least four people were killed in Wednesday's bombings that also maimed at least 100 others.

IRNA earlier reported that the blast took place near its office in Beirut, as well as that of the state broadcaster IRIB.

Hezbollah Vows Victory Against Extremists In Syria
[AFP] The chief of Leb's Shiite movement Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, vowed on Sunday that the group would prevail against bully boyz fighting in neighbouring Syria.

"We will win this battle, God willing," he insisted, after describing the group's role in the conflict in Syria as a fight against "takfir
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
is" -- Death Eater Sunni Moslems.

Hezbollah, a staunch ally of the Syrian regime, has dispatched fighters to the conflict to bolster government troops, finally admitting their presence in April 2013.

Nasrallah has regularly defended the decision by saying Hezbollah is countering jihadist fighters, although bully boyz make up only a portion of those fighting against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
He devoted much of the lengthy address to defending the group's involvement in Syria, which has drawn accusations from some in Leb that the group is entangling the country in the war next door.

"It's a question of time," he said of Hezbollah's victory in the fight.

"Planning and preparations... exist, but it's a question of time," he added during the televised address to commemorate the liquidation of three senior Hezbollah members.

He described the fight in Syria, which a Britannia-based monitoring group estimates has killed several hundred Hezbollah members, as a "decisive, historic battle".

Hezbollah's involvement in the Syrian conflict has been controversial in Leb, where many Shiites back the Syrian regime and many Sunnis support the Sunni-dominated uprising.

Hezbollah's strongholds in Beirut and elsewhere have been targeted in a string of car and suicide kabooms that have killed civilians, with jihadist groups saying the blasts are Dire Revenge™ for the Shiite movement's role in the Syria conflict.

- 'Danger threatens all Lebanese' -

Nasrallah said the attacks, and others in Syria against religious minorities, proved that the group needed to fight extremism in Syria to protect Leb.

"If the gangs control Syria, what will Leb's future be?" he asked.

"Where are your priests, where are your nuns, where are your statues of the Virgin Mary?" he added, referring to Syrian priests and nuns kidnapped by Death Eaters, who have also desecrated churches.

"This is a danger that threatens all Lebanese... If they (jihadists) have the opportunity to control the border regions, their goal will be to transform Leb into a part of their Islamic state," he said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says at least 275 Hezbollah fighters have been killed in Syria, where they are currently battling rebels in the Qalamun region near the border with Leb.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says at least 275 Hezbollah fighters have been killed in Syria, where they are currently battling rebels in the Qalamun region near the border with Leb.

Syria's army, reportedly backed by Hezbollah fighters, has launched operations to seize the last rebel stronghold in the region, the town of Yabrud.

Both Hezbollah and the Lebanese army have said several of the boom-mobiles sent into Leb have originated in the town.

Nasrallah also addressed the formation of a new government this week, after a vacuum of more than 10 months.

The government will include both Hezbollah and its allies and the opposition March 14 coalition.

But seats will be equally distributed between the two sides and centrist candidates to prevent any group from having a veto over the other.

Nasrallah said his party would work with the new government in "a positive spirit" but clarified that it was a "government of national interest, not a unity government."

Iranian Oil Exports Soar as Sanctions Collapse
[FreeBeacon] Iranian oil exports soared in January, hitting new highs just months after the United States consented to billions of dollars in economic sanctions relief under the interim nuclear deal.

Exports of Iranian crude oil jumped to 1.32 million barrels, up from December's high of 1.06 million barrels, according to data from the International Energy Agency.

The spike in exports--mainly to Japan, China, and India--has helped Iran's once-ailing economy stabilize and decrease inflation.

The increase runs counter to a promise by the B.O. regime that "Iran's oil exports will remain steady at their current level of around 1 million barrels per day."

#1  So, if Iran is exporting more oil and the US is now the world's leading producer of oil, how come gas freaking prices are going up again?

Heck if we have so much oil why?

The answer might be in a number of hidden energy taxes such as new EPA rules on fuel tanker trucks, new rules on pipelines and new fees on storage tanks at filling stations, but come on, it doesn't explain why we are paying almost $4.00 here in Californicate.

Controversy about Osama resurfaces after admiral's email
[DAWN] A conservative political group in the United States has launched a campaign to force the B.O. regime to release the photos of the Abbottabad
... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden....
raid that killed Al Qaeda leader the late Osama bin Laden
... who doesn't live anywhere anymore...

The Judicial Watch claims that the administration is refusing to release the pictures because it wants to hide something that may cast doubt on President Barack Obama
I am not a dictator!...
's greatest achievement: eliminating Osama.

This week, the group claimed uncovering "smoking gun evidence that the B.O. regime's efforts to keep these photos secret included an order by a top Pentagon official to destroy them."

In this email, dated May 13, 2011, the then head of the US Special Forces, Vice Admiral William McRaven, orders the commandos who participated in the operation to destroy all the pictures they might have taken.

"One particular item that I want to emphasise is photos; particularly Osama's remains. At this point, all photos should have been turned over to the CIA; if you still have them, destroy them immediately or get them to the (redacted)."

The order to purge the photos came 11 days after Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the US Department of Defence for "all photographs and/or video recordings of Osama bin Laden taken during and/or after the US military operation in Pakistain on or about May 1, 2011". Judicial Watch is seeking the photographs and videos to prove if it was actually him.

The US administration had announced after the May 2, 2011 operation that they had buried OBL at sea because they could not find a country that would bury him within 24 hours, in accordance with the Mohammedan custom. They also avoided burying him on land because they feared that Osama's grave would become a shrine for his followers.

Later, President B.O. explained that he had decided not to release the pictures for similar reasons. "It is important for us to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence, as a propaganda tool," he told CBS News.

The refusal encouraged rumour mongers to insist that it was somebody else, and not, the Al Qaeda leader, who was killed in the raid. The rumours, which had subsided, resurfaced this week after Judicial Watch released Admiral McRaven's email message.

This forced US officials to release another denial, saying that there was no question who was killed in the Abbottabad raid. Along with being visually identified on the scene by US operatives, Bin Laden was identified by name by a woman believed to be one of his wives, they argued.

CIA specialists compared photos of the body with known photos of Bin Laden, determining with 95 per cent certainty that they were one and the same, the officials said.

The denial, however, did not satisfy the rumour mongers who are once again busy spinning out all sorts of theories.

They claim that Osama arrived at the American hospital in Dubai on July 4, 2001 for renal processing or a Kidney Dialysis and left on July 14. While at the hospital, he also met a person in charge of the CIA.

He came to Dubai on July 4 by plane from Quetta and was immediately transferred to the hospital for a renal processing.

The rumours mongers use such reports to prove that Osama had a serious kidney problem and needed regular treatment. After, the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, he could not get this treatment and died of kidney failure.

An American anti-War activist Cindy Sheehan
...anti-war activist and publicity hound. After her child was killing in the Iraq war she set up camp outside President G.W.Bush's ranch. In Washington she bared her boobs for peace. She was the 2012 vice-presidential candidate of the Peace and Freedom Party and intends to run for governor of Caliphornia in 2014. She will probably lose...
wrote that those who believed the government's claim that Osama was killed in the raid were 'stupid.'

"Just think to yourself, they paraded Saddam's dead sons around to prove they were dead, why do you suppose they hastily buried this version of Osama at sea?"

US officials dismiss these claims as "figments of someone's wild imagination" that better be ignored but this does not discourage rumour mongers from claiming that Osama did not die in the raid.
