...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) said Friday that the a 15-year-old child was used to carry out on Thursday evening.

NDS front man Haseeb Sediqi said the child bomber was in school uniform and detonated his explosives among the gathering of the other students of Estiqlal high school.

The Talibs group in Afghanistan grabbed credit behind the attack.

The United Nations

Afghan intelligence stops smuggling attempt of 27 children to Pakistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan Intelligence ‐ National Directorate of Security

NDS front man Haseeb Sediqi told news hounds on Friday that the suspected smuggler was identified as Syed Karim who is originally a resident of Nuristan province.

Sediqi further added that the smuggler was looking to smuggle 27 children aged between 5 to 10-year-old to Punjab province of Pakistain.

He said the children were collected by Syed Karim from various parts of Nuristan province and was tossed in the calaboose

According to Sediqi, Syed Karim was looking to deploy the children to religious Madrasas (religious schools) in Pakistain so that they could be brain-washed and used as suicide bombers.

sediqi said the children were handed over to a tribal elder in Nuristan province and will be transferred to their families.

Roadside bomb attack kills three Puntland soldiers in Galgala
GALGALA, Somalia -- Roadside remote-controlled improvised Explosive Device (IED) hit a troop transport vehicle, killing three Puntland government soldiers and wounding four others according to credible sources on Friday, Garowe Online reports.

The IED was planted along an access road leading to the rugged terrain of Galgala from the Gulf of Aden port city of Bossaso, security sources disclosed. The wounded are being treated at Bossaso General hospital.

Puntland government officials have yet to address the media on the fatalities from the roadside bomb blast.

Regional forces have battled Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants in sporadic clashes on hideouts along Golis Mountain ranges and in the agriculture-rich village of Galgala. Al Shabaab fighters are believed to have fled migrated northwards towards Puntland following intense military campaign in central and southern Somalia.

Man Killed in Egypt Islamist Protest
[AnNahar] One man was killed Friday when Islamist protesters and security forces clashed in northern Egypt, a security source said.

"The festivities took place between dozens of members of the Moslem Brüderbund and security forces who intervened to disperse them with tear gas after they cut a coast road," the source said.

He spoke of "one Brotherhood man dead and another maimed by buckshot" during the protest in the Nile Delta province of Kafr al-Sheikh, some 150 kilometers (90 miles) north of Cairo.

It was not immediately known how the man died.

Supporters of former Islamist president Mohammed Morsi, deposed last July by then army chief and now President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, stage regular demonstrations after the main weekly prayers on Friday.

Algerian Mayor Shot Dead, Throat Slit by Terrorists
[An Nahar] The mayor of a town in Algeria was rubbed out and had his throat slit by unidentified "terrorists" on Friday, police were quoted by the APS news agency as saying.

The body of Benyoucef Chelghoum, 56, was found at his farm in Fercha, just outside Bordj El Emir Abdelkader, of which he was mayor. The town is 213 kilometers (132 miles) southwest of the capital.

The report gave no further details about the murder, including any explanation as to why "terrorists" were blamed.

Violence blamed on Islamists has declined considerably in recent years, but gunnies who battled the army during a civil war in the 1990s and later formed Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) still operate in the country.

Gunmen Kill Kenyan Policeman, Wound Two Others
[AnNahar] Gunmen rubbed out a Kenyan policeman and maimed two others in an overnight attack on the Kilifi coastal region, local government officials said Friday.

"We lost a police officer in the attack," said Kilifi county commissioner Albert Kobia. "They were attacked by a gang that shot up the station."

The attack, some 55 kilometers (35 miles) northeast along the coast from the main port of Mombasa, is the latest in a string of killings in Kenya in recent months.

Kenya's coast was once one of its most popular tourist destinations but has seen visitor numbers slump after the attacks.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but previous attacks have been blamed on Islamist groups accused of links to Somalia's Al-Qaeda-affiliated Shabaab rebels, or to a separatist movement called the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC).

Reports of the attack come as Kenya holds celebrations and military parades in the capital Nairobi to mark Kenya's independence day, 51 years since winning freedom from Britannia?s colonial rule.

The banned MRC has always insisted it is a political movement campaigning for the independence of Kenya's Indian Ocean coast, a traditionally mainly Moslem region.

Shehab gunnies have also carried out repeated Dire Revenge attacks since Kenya invaded Somalia in 2011.

Attacks include last year's Westgate shopping mall massacre, in which at least 67 people died, and a string of more recent killings in northeastern regions.

The Shabaab said their recent cross-border attacks -- including executing 28 non-Moslems in an attack on a bus followed days later by a massacre of 36 in a quarry -- were fresh retaliation for Kenya's presence in Somalia, as well as its treatment of Moslems in the troubled port city of Mombasa.
And if they hadn't those excuses, they'd find others.

Arabia
Saudi Arrests Man for Shooting at German Diplomats
[An Nahar] Saudi authorities have incarcerated
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
a man, wanted for a number of violent crimes, including shooting at the car of German diplomats earlier this year, the interior ministry said Friday.

The two Germans escaped unharmed in the January 13 incident in Awamiya village, Eastern Province.

At the time, the German government said it had no reason to believe the attack was politically motivated.

Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's interior ministry said the suspect, Salem bin Abdullah bin Hussein, was wanted for a number of crimes, including shooting, armed robbery and threatening the security of residents

He was arrested in Awamiya Thursday evening after a shootout with police in which he was maimed and subsequently hospitalized. His two companions were also taken into custody.

On March 23, Saudi Arabia said it had arrested two other suspects in connection with the January shooting.

Awamiya, just west of Dammam city, has been a focus of festivities between security forces and protesters from Saudi Arabia's Shiite Moslem minority.

Most Shiites live in the oil-rich east, and many complain of marginalization in the Sunni-dominated kingdom.

Earlier this month, a court sentenced to death a man who opened fire numerous times on police in Awamiya.

Activists say several death sentences have been handed down since 2011, when demonstrations began among the minority Shiites.

In October, protesters marched there in opposition to death sentences handed to Shiite religious leader Nimr al-Nimr and others, an activist said.

Nimr was a driving force behind demonstrations against the Sunni authorities that erupted in 2011 in the east, alongside a Shiite-led protest movement in neighboring Bahrain.

Security forces kill five militants in Dagestan
Russian security forces have killed five suspected Islamist militants in Dagestan, the Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee said in a statement released Friday.

The statement said that a group of Islamists had taken a number of women and children hostage in Gurbuki, a village in eastern Dagestan. Police surrounded the house where the captors were holed up, and managed to persuade the militants to free their hostages. The militants then opened fire on the troops and were killed in the exchange of gunfire.

The suspect, who has a criminal record, met Nemmouche while both were behind bars previously, the law enforcement source said.

A Gay Paree appeals court is to rule soon on whether the suspect should be turned over to Belgian authorities, a move he has opposed.
Of course. They might actually find him guilty.

Indian Police Arrest Islamic State 'Jihadi Tweeter'
[IsraelTimes] Indian police on Saturday placed in durance vile
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
a 24-year-old believed to be the handler of an influential Twitter account supporting the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group, officials said.

Mehdi Masroor Biswas, who works for an Indian food conglomerate in the southern city of Bangalore, is alleged to be behind the Twitter account @ShamiWitness. The account had 17,700 followers, including many foreigners fighting for the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq, until it was shut down following a report by Britannia’s Channel 4 News on Thursday.

Tweets from @ShamiWitness contained jihadist propaganda as well as information for would-be recruits and messages praising fallen fighters as deaders.

Police in Bangalore raided his house in an upscale suburb early Saturday and seized his mobile phone, laptop and other documents for evidence.

“On the basis of credible intelligence inputs… we have apprehended Mehdi Masroor Biswas from his rented one-room apartment,” police director general L.R. Pachuau said at a news conference. “He has confessed to the fact that he was operating Shami Witness Twitter account for the last many years… he used to work in the office in the day and became active on the Internet late at night."

India’s moderate population of 150 million Moslems have not often been drawn into sectarian conflicts in the Middle East and elsewhere.
...though they do support the Indian Mujahiddin, with strong connections to several ISI-owned jihadi organizations.
However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
an Indian student was recently charged with terror-related offences after he returned home from Iraq where he is alleged to have worked for the jihadists. Biswas’s arrest has further fueled fears that IS snuffies are attempting to recruit radicalized Moslem youngsters online.

Source of information
Pachuau said Biswas used to tweet “ferociously” after gathering information from TV and news websites on the situation in Iraq, Syria and the rest of the troubled region.

Biswas was “particularly close to English-speaking terrorists” and had become a source of “incitement and information” for youngsters trying to join the IS group.

“Through his social media propaganda, he abetted IS in its agenda to wage war against the Asiatic powers,” Pachuau said.

A preliminary case of abetting war against the state has been registered against Biswas.

The British channel said he shared jokes, funny images and talked about superhero movies on his Facebook page. He also used to post pictures of pizza dinners with friends and parties at work.
"See how kewl I am, O Islamic State doods and dudettes!"
However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
in an interview to the Indian Express newspaper published Saturday, Biswas said his claims to Channel 4 were meant to get the television news hound off his back.

“When Channel 4 called me first and asked if @ShamiWitness was my Twitter handle, I did not oppose it… my outright rejection would not have convinced them. I therefore decided to admit that I was indeed @ShamiWitness in the hope that they would not air the program,” Biswas told the newspaper.
Whatever he was doing for that food conglomerate, it's clear he wasn't hired on the basis of raw brainpower.

Suspected South Asian Al Qaeda commander arrested from Karachi
[DAWN] Authorities have tossed in the calaboose
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
a man they describe as an important commander in Al Qaeda's newly created South Asian wing, police said on Friday.

Police arrested Shahid Usman, in his mid-thirties, and four others in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
late on Thursday. They also seized weapons and 10kg of explosives.

Al Qaeda's new South Asia wing, Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent, tried to hijack a Pak navy ship in September this year, a few days after the group had announced its formation.

Police say Usman is the head of the Al Qaeda wing in Karachi, a steamy port city of 18 million people, and was planning more attacks there.

"He is the Karachi chief of Al Qaeda's newly formed wing working under the set up of Asim Umar
...chief of al-Qaeda's Sharia Committee for Pakistain, named head of al-Qaeda in India. His video appearances are frequently accompanied by clips of al Qaeda's senior propagandist in Pakistan, Ahmad Farooq. Umar the author of The Army of Anti-Christ: Blackwater, Documentation of the Dreadful Terrorist Activities of America's Blackwater in Islamic Countries...
, the South Asia chief of Al Qaeda," a bigwig at the police counter-terrorism unit said.

The official said Usman lived in Defence, a wealthy neighbourhood, and owned a car-parts dealership in one of the city's most expensive commercial areas. "Unlike the usual myrmidon profile, Usman comes from an affluent background," the police officer said.

Officials said Usman was previously associated with the outlawed Harkatul Jihad-al-Islami myrmidon group, whose operational commander, Ilyas Kashmiri, was killed in a US drone strike in 2011 near the Afghan border. Usman had received training in Afghanistan, the police officer said.

The suspected turbans were arrested from Lakri Gali, Old Haji Camp neighbourhood of the city, a police statement said, adding that the arrested men "operate Al-Qaeda's network in the city" and were behind several "acts of terrorism".

Al Qaeda announced the formation of its South Asian wing on Sept 4 with Al Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri
... Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. Formerly the Mister Big of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Bumped off Abdullah Azzam with a car boom in the course of one of their little disputes. Is thought to have composed bin Laden's fatwa entitled World Islamic Front Against Jews and Crusaders. Currently residing in the North Wazoo area. That is not a horn growing from the middle of his forehead, but a prayer bump, attesting to how devout he is...
promising to spread a holy war across South Asia, home to more than 400 million Moslems.

Analysts say the move is part of Al Qaeda's plan to take advantage of the planned withdrawal of US-led forces from Afghanistan and boost its influence in the region.

The new Al Qaeda wing may also be an attempt to grab back the initiative from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) myrmidon group that was expelled from Al Qaeda for its brutal tactics and which now holds parts of Iraq and Syria. Pak bandidos holy warriors say envoys from the IS are trying to make contacts in the region.

Usman's arrest followed the reported killing of two senior Al Qaeda leaders in Pakistain this month.

India Jails Man Planning Israeli, US Consulate Attacks
[IsraelTimes] A court in India sentenced a Sri Lankan citizen to five years in prison last week after he pled guilty to planning a terrorist attack on the Israeli consulate in the southwestern city of Bangalore.

Mohammad Sakir Hussein, who was locked away
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
several months ago, was also convicted in planning to attack the US consulate in the south Indian city of Chennai and distributing counterfeit money.
Lots of plots in one small package...
Hussein?s indictment concluded last week after he confessed to planning the attack. The trial of two other defendants, Shiva Beelan and Muhammad Salim, was still ongoing, according to a report published Friday by Ynet.
The Ynet website has been having problems for me recently. Hopefully they'll fix whatever it is soon.
The National Investigation Agency, an Indian counter-terrorist agency, charged that Hussein was in cahoots with the Pak Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
agency (ISI)
...one of our least favourite nefarious organizations...
and was handled by sources working out of Islamabad?s Sri Lankan embassy.

The Indian government previously accused the Pak ISI of criminal masterminding terrorist plots in the subcontinent, most notably the 2008 Mumbai terror attack. The assault, which targeted commercial and tourist centers, including a Chabad-run Jewish community center, was launched by 10 Pak members of Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
, one of South Asia?s most notorious jihadist groups. Over 150 people were killed and approximately 300 more were maimed in the four-day rampage comprised of bombings and mass shootings.

Blast damages French Cultural Center in Gaza
[IsraelTimes] A bomb attack slightly damaged the shuttered French Cultural Center in Gaza City Friday night without causing casualties, two months after a fire forced its closure, police and an AFP photographer said.

Police spokesman Ayman Betjeni said ?this was a cowardly attack and unfortunately the second incident of this sort in? two months.

?It seems as if there are elements who want to disturb Gaza?s security and are targeting foreigners to intimidate them and give a bad image of Gaza.?

He said all streets leading from the scene had been closed off and that ?investigators were on the scene trying to identify the perpetrators?.

?The explosion was just behind the building and damaged a wall,? the photographer said.

A source connected with the center said one or two explosions had damaged the south wall of the compound as well as some of the facade of the building, which also houses the local branch of the French consulate.

On October 8, the center?s offices were set ablaze after the apparent explosion of two faulty fuel tanks.

The center was closed at the time for the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday.

Police at the time suggested the explosion may have been a criminal act, but the results of their investigation were never released.

French diplomatic missions and official buildings have been on high alert since the start of a spate of kidnappings and beheadings of foreigners by Islamic State jihadists and their allies, particularly that of Frenchman Herve Gourdel in Algeria.

France has angered IS by taking part in airstrikes on the group?s forces in Iraq.

Friday?s blasts came a day after a suicide bomber struck at a high school attached to the French cultural center in Kabul, killing at least one person and wounding 15.
This week it's France's turn to be picked on...
The Gaza Strip, which is ruled by the Hamas terrorist movement, is subject to an Egyptian and Israeli blockade to prevent arms smuggling and was battered by a July-August Israeli military offensive as Hamas launched thousands of missiles into Israel. It suffers chronic power cuts, leading to the widespread use of privately owned generators and storage of jerrycans of diesel fuel to power them.
So of course the answer is to try to blow up the French cultural center.

Palestinian attacks family of 6 with acid
[IsraelTimes] Seven people, including a family of five with young children, were lightly maimed in the West Bank Friday afternoon when a Paleostinian man hurled acid into their car, before being shot and seriously maimed.
Shoot him again. Toss his body in a hole and dissolve it with acid. Bulldoze his house. Send his family, right down to fourth cousins three-times-removed, to Mauritania.
The attack occurred near a checkpoint between the Gush Etzion settlement of Beitar Illit, where the family is from, and the Paleostinian village of Husan, southwest of Jerusalem.

Paleostinian news agency Ma?an identified the attacker as Jamal Abd al-Majid Ghayatha, 45, from the West Bank village of Nahalin. Media networks affiliated with Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, said the man was a former Paleostinian prisoner in Israeli jail, Israel Radio reported.

The IDF said in a statement Friday that he was ?known to have been previously involved in illegal and hostile riots and activities.?

The father of the family, in his 50s, was hit in the face with the liquid, causing burns to his eyes. He was evacuated to Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem in Jerusalem for treatment. The mother, her three daughters aged 8 to 10, and her niece, were taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in the capital with light injuries.

Ghayatha was being treated at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem as well.

The family had stopped their vehicle at the at the Al-Hader Junction to pick up a hitchhiker when Ghayatha, who was standing next to the man, attacked all of them with the acid.

Earlier reports said the Paleostinian man himself was posing as a hitchhiker.

The IDF said he was armed with a screwdriver and then began chasing people. He was in turn chased by civilians who stopped their cars at the scene to help. An armed civilian who was driving by shot Ghayata twice in the lower extremities, seriously injuring him. The attacker was then apprehended by Border Police.

The hitchhiker was identified as Moshe Claude Kamon, an ultra-Orthodox driver, who had just gotten off a bus and was looking for a way to his home in Beitar Illit.

?I had just gotten to the junction, when a car stopped. An Arab man approached me from the right and asked for the time, and then threw a cup or bottle of liquid into my face, which hit my eyes,? said Kamon, who added that he knew his life was in danger.

Medics who arrived at the scene administered initial treatment to the maimed before evacuating them to hospital.

Earlier, in a separate incident, a Paleostinian man drove his car into a concrete barrier near two IDF soldiers as they stood at a bus stop near an army base south of Nablus.

The man was lightly maimed and taken for questioning as initial suspicions were that he attempted to run over the soldiers in a terrorist attack. The IDF said later Friday that a joint IDF, Shin Bet and police investigation concluded that the incident was a car accident.

Car terrorist attacks by Paleostinians have killed five people in recent months. Last month two Paleostinian faceless myrmidons entered a Jerusalem synagogue and attacked worshipers there with knives and a gun, leaving four worshipers and a policeman dead.

Friday?s attack comes during a period of tensions between Israelis and Paleostinians and a wave of unrest in the West Bank and in Arab East Jerusalem.
An Nahar adds:
As the suspect expeditiously departed at a goodly pace, a civilian passing by in his car tried to run him over before shooting him in the legs. He was then tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
. It was unclear how seriously he was maimed.

Paleostinian residents said the attacker, 46-year-old Jamal Ghayyada, was mentally unstable and had received treatment at a clinic in Bethlehem.

Border Policeman Hurt In Clashes Near Hebron
[IsraelTimes] A Border Policeman was lightly hurt in festivities with Paleostinian rioters at a checkpoint near the Tomb of the Patriarchs in the West Bank city of Hebron on Friday afternoon.

Several dozen Paleostinians in the area threw stones at security forces, who responded with riot dispersal means. No additional injuries were reported.

At the Qalandia checkpoint between Jerusalem and Ramallah, Paleostinian medics said three people were maimed in festivities with the IDF.

Small-scale disturbances were also reported in the Paleostinian villages of Beitunia, west of Ramallah, Burin, near Nablus and Anata, on Jerusalem?s northeast municipal boundary.

Earlier Friday, Moslem prayers on the Temple Mount ended without incident after police boosted their presence in Jerusalem, having braced for a harsh Paleostinian response to the death of a senior Paleostinian official in a clash with Israeli troops on Wednesday.

In a bid to calm tensions, Israel allowed Moslem worshipers of all ages to enter the Temple Mount?s al-Aqsa Mosque.

Though the practice of augmenting security on Fridays has become routine over the past months, as Jewish-Arab tensions have flared in the capital as well as in the West Bank, fears of violence were exacerbated by the death of Ziad Abu Ein.

Abu Ein ? who headed the Paleostinian Authority government agency that lobbies against the security barrier and settlements ? died Wednesday morning on the way to a Ramallah hospital after being involved in a scuffle with Israeli troops near Turmusaya, south of the Shiloh settlement in the northern West Bank.

Israeli officials have said a postmortem ? attended by Paleostinian and Jordanian physicians ? showed Abu Ein died of a heart attack, possibly caused by the stress of the situation as well as a preexisting heart condition. Paleostinians have disputed this claim, saying he died after being struck by soldiers and inhaling tear gas.

Saeb Erekat
...negotiated the Oslo Accords with Israel. He has been chief Paleostinian negotiator since 1995. He is currently negotiating with Israel to establish a de jure Paleostinian state...
, the chief negotiator in collapsed peace talks with Israel, said Thursday the Paleostinian Authority would freeze security cooperation with Israel in the wake of Abu Ein?s death.

The PA also issued a letter of complaint Wednesday to UN Secretary-General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
, calling the official?s death ?murder,? and appealed to the Security Council to publicly condemn the incident.

Abu Ein, a member of Fatah?s Revolutionary Council, was extradited from the US to Israel in 1981 for his role in orchestrating a terrorist bombing two years earlier that killed two Israeli teens. He was released during a 1985 prisoner swap that saw the release of three Israel Defense Forces soldiers captured in Leb. He also served as deputy minister for prisoner affairs.

The US, UK, UN and EU all called for a swift, transparent investigation into the Wednesday incident.

A PA leadership meeting to decide on a diplomatic response to the incident, which was initially planned for Friday, has been postponed to Sunday, to allow more time for deliberations.

Israel has urged calm, with Defense Minister Moshe Ya?alon expressing regret for the death and saying a military inquiry had been launched.

?Security stability is important for both sides,? he said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent a message through one of his aides to Abbas, in which he ?pointed to the need to calm the situation and act responsibly,? his office said.

In the absence of talks, the Paleostinians are pushing a UN Security Council resolution, which they hope will pass by the end of the year, giving Israel two years to withdraw from all territory captured in the 1967 war in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

If the United States vetoes it, as expected, the Paleostinian leadership says it will then move to sue Israel through the International Criminal Court
... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ...
for alleged war crimes.

BIFF behind Bukidnon bus blast
Militants in the southern Philippines are suspected of carrying out a bus bombing that claimed ten lives. A military spokesman said the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) are thought to have staged Tuesday’s attack, which also left 42 injured The BIFF denied involvement.

The bomb was similar to one used in a November attack on another vehicle belonging to the same bus company, which the BIFF is believed to have orchestrated. Major Ezra Balagtey said, "The bomb/IED is made of an 81 mm mortar round (that was) cellphone-activated. The same bomb signature with the IED explosion that happened last November."

BIFF spokesman Abu Misry Mama said, "Bombing civilians would not benefit us. The (military) is fabricating stories again to malign us."

Rommel Banlaoi, chairman of the Philippine Institute for Peace, Violence and Terrorism Research, said it was likely that the BIFF carried out the bombing. He said, "The BIFF is fully engaged in offensive military operations. They are heightening their military activities right now, even their bombing operations. Their bombing activities are commonly mixed with their criminal activities (such as extortion)."

In another fresh outbreak of violence in Maguindanao province in Mindanao, at least five people including a village councilman, his wife and two of their relatives were killed in an ambush.

Meanwhile, Philippine rescue teams have been struggling to reach upland communities on an eastern island which took the brunt of a recent typhoon amid security fears in the area known as a hotbed of Maoist rebels.

Shahhal Says Army Arrested his Son in Tripoli
[An Nahar] Prominent Salafist leader Dai al-Islam al-Shahhal claimed on Friday that the Lebanese army tossed in the slammer
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
his son Jaafar in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
overnight.

Al-Shahhal said an army intelligence unit apprehended Jaafar in the area of al-Zahriyeh.

The Salafist Movement condemned the arrest, saying no arrest warrant has been issued against the man.

Al-Shahhal, who is the founder of the movement in Tripoli, told An Nahar daily last month that an arrest warrant issued against him by the military prosecutor would have dire consequences.

He accused the Lebanese institutions of discriminating against its citizens.

"I cannot remain silent toward such injustice," he said.

The warrant against al-Shahhal was issued after the military found a weapons cache at the residence of Sheikh Bilal Diqmaq, another salafist
...also known as Wahhabis, salafists are against innovation in religion or in anything else. They eat the same things every meal of every day and all their children are named Abdullah or Mohammed. Not all salafists are takfiris, but all takfiris are salafists. They are fond of praying five times a day and killing infidels...
holy man.

Al-Shahhal said the arms belonged to him and demanded that the military returned them.
They're family heirlooms.
