Somalia, AU forces expand in central Somalia
Somalia government troops backed by African union peacekeeping forces have expanded in Elbur town in central Somalia’s Galgadud region, according to police officials.

Police chief in Elbur for government forces, Col. Mohamed Karie told Shabelle Media in Mogadishu that the joint forces launched an effort, in a bid to expand several territories under the town.

Meanwhile, Col. Mohamed said that they have been learning and listening conditions of people living in areas where military operations are conducted.

Elbur, the latest town which has been captured by Somalia National Army, along with AU forces from the militants of Al Shabaab.

Yemen carnage: 'Stop arming Saudi Arabian regime,' CAAT tells UK govt
[RT] Anti-arms trade activists are demanding that the UK stops peddling arms to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, as the corpse count in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
passes 2,000. Their call comes as a Saudi blogger faces a decade in prison and 1,000 lashes for expressing his political views.

Speaking Monday, Andrew Smith of Campaign Against the Arms Trade (CAAT) said the human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
situation in Saudi is "dire."

"The fact that it is also the world's largest buyer of UK weapons is a sign of the real hypocrisy at the heart of UK foreign policy," he said.

"What right does the UK have to talk about human rights and democracy when its ministers are directly promoting arms sales to a regime that tortures bloggers?"

Over the course of its first four years in government, the previous Tory-Lib Dem coalition plowed ahead with the UK's well-trodden policy of licensing £3.8 billion worth of arms to Saudi Arabia.

"This included licenses for combat aircraft, components for bombs, weapon sights and tear gas. There is no suggestion that this will change under the current government," CAAT said.

The charity, which carries out detailed analysis on the global arms trade, insisted that the British government promotes and condones these arms sales.

China-Japan-Koreas
N.Korea Razed 10,000 Families' Homes Near Border
The North Korean regime has resettled some 10,000 households to build a 270 km highway section along the Chinese border, a source said last Friday.

"The aim is to prevent people from fleeing the North," the source said. Construction of the highway, which runs from Hyesan, Ryanggang Province to Musan, North Hamgyong Province, is nearly complete.

The regime reportedly forced the residents out because the border regions along the Apnok and Duman rivers are notoriously porous, and defections and smuggling are rife.
Stalin would have moved them to outer Siberia. Or had them shot...
Outer Siberia over North Korea? Hmmm. Let me think... Permafrost or Pyongyang?... I'd go with the permafrost, I think.
The source said the move has made it hard for people to flee via the established routes out of Hyesan as well as Musan and Hoeryong, North Hamgyong Province, no matter how much money they pay.

The regime promised the resettled people perks like extra food rations, but none have been forthcoming, the source added.
Where would the Norks find the 'extra' food rations...

The Grand Turk
Turkish opposition leader says Islamic State behind bombings of Kurds
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] A string of bombings targeting The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's pro-Kurdish party during its campaign to enter parliament has been linked with Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Syria, the party's chairman said on Monday.

Three people were killed in two blasts on Friday in the mainly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir in southeast Turkey, minutes before Selahattin Demirtas, head of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), addressed a political rally.

The corpse count in the bombings rose from two to three on Monday after a 17-year-old boy died of his injuries, local media said, citing hospital officials. At least 200 people were maimed in the attack.

The HDP on Sunday became the first-ever political party with Kurdish roots to enter Turkey's parliament as a party after it easily cleared the 10 percent threshold required.

The party took 80 seats in the new parliament, helping to deprive the ruling AK Party of a majority to form a single-party government.

Demirtas said the attack, as well as two other bombings of HDP offices in May in which no one was killed, were connected to IS, an armed murderous Moslem group that espouses a hardline interpretation of Islam and controls swaths of war-torn Iraq and Syria, both of which share borders with Turkey.

"The assaults in Adana and Mersin - the person who placed the bombs, had apparently been to Syria recently and spent time with IS. Again the other person who was involved here in the third bombing apparently had connections to IS," Demirtas said in an interview with CNN. His comments were dubbed into English.

He did not say how he had obtained this information or what evidence there was linking the bombings to IS, but he blamed state security for failing to prevent the attacks.

Unusual: Erdogan 'off-air' for longer than 24 hours
[Hurriyet Daily News] Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
has unusually stayed off-air from Turkish broadcasters for longer than 24 hours - an unprecedented length of time considering his relentless TV speeches over the past few months before the general election.

Erdogan had been appearing on Turkish TV stations as often as three times a day during the campaign season for the June 7 general elections. He even gave a brief, deliberately non-partisan speech at noon on the day he was voting in Istanbul on June 7.

After the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), which he co-founded, lost its parliamentary majority in the election, Erdogan released a statement calling on all parties to assess the results of the June 7 parliamentary election "healthily and realistically."

Home Front: WoT
Pentagon Official Reacts Angrily to Obama's ISIS Strategy Claim: 'What the F‐ Was That?'
According to Fox News, a military official is taking issue with the president's claim that he is waiting for a plan from the Pentagon to come up with a complete strategy to degrade and defeat ISIS.

On Special Report tonight, Charles Krauthammer noted that Obama occasionally stumbles on the truth, as he did when he admitted that his administration does not yet have a strategy to defeat ISIS; but as is always the case with this president it's never his fault when something goes wrong.

"The reason is Obama's entire strategy rests on the notion that trained Iraqis under this government are going to carry the fight to ISIS," Krauthammer said, noting that strategy has failed in Mosul, Ramadi and Fallujah.

"This is a country that was abandoned by Obama in 2011 and threw in its lot with other players. And now we're trying to reclaim that. It cannot be done," Krauthammer said.

"The idea that he would now put the blame on the Pentagon for having lacked in offering him plans is exactly consistent with Obama's method, which is to always blame others."

One military official reacted angrily to Obama's blamesmanship:

"What the f‐ was that," the official told Fox News. "We have given him lots of options, he just hasn't acted on them."
Because... golf dude
Oh, you wanted him to choose? He's a community organizer, dude, they don't make decisions...
He's the bloody OPFOR. After 6+ very long years, don't you GET IT ?
Meanwhile, an overwhelming majority of the Americans agree with Obama that he has no strategy to defeat ISIS. An astounding 71% say he does not have a clear strategy, while a mere 19% say he does.
Either Obumble is Nero and golfing while the Middle East burns, or he WANTS ISIS to spread. There are no other reasons why the feckless behavior is happening.

#6  Obama's heritage to the American People:
1) The establishment of the ISIS empire in Iraq and the spread of Islamic fundamentalism in the middle east.
2) The establishment of Iran as a "kosher" nuclear threshold power in the middle east.
3) The crawling alienation of Israel, the only democratic state in the middle east. The Israeli Street and government do not trust Obama any more as it becomes clear that Obama intends to sacrifice Israel and befriend the Iranians.

Are we witnessing the decline of the USA as a world power?
The vacuum in the ME will suck into itself the Iranians, the Russians and (maybe) the Chinese. When and if a new American president will want to reverse the situation it may already be too late.

Of course, if we had a real smart POTUS, he might be bleeding both Shias (Iran) and Sunnis (ISIS) and thinning the herds but I doubt it--even if this were true you wouldn't want to communicate it to the world. Nah, he just wants to finish out the term without doing much but work on his golf score--maybe spread a little racial unrest.

#21  ...if all the competent generals resign, who will ∅ replace them with?

In one sense that's not going to be too many. The question is in 18 months who the next prez replaces them with. The next one should form a team of some of the retired/fired who demonstrated military combat competency on the battlefield and begin making lists. As demonstrated by the present occupant, senior GOs serve key positions at the prez's discretion and the Senate's approval. Out the managers and 'yes men' that there are too many of and put in people who know how to fight and have demonstrated it. You'll see the biggest turn over since the start of WWII. Have a lot of checked boxes but no combat experience? tough luck.

IG report: TSA failed to identify 73 workers 'linked to terrorism'
[Fox] On the heels of Transportation Security Administration workers flunking a security test at airport checkpoints, the results of a new audit show that -- while the agency keeps a robust system for screening commercial airport workers -- it still failed to flag 73 airport workers "linked to terrorism."

Apparently, TSA does not have access to all the terror watchlist information it needs to make those judgments.

“The TSA did not identify these individuals through its vetting operations because it is not authorized to receive all terrorism-related categories under current interagency watch-listing policy,” the June 4 Inspector General report stated.

According to TSA data, the people in question were working for major airlines, airport venders and other employers.
Oh well, if they're working, paying taxes, and voting democrat in urban America, what's the harm? We'll just monitor them infrequently until they start buying pressure cookers or fireworks, then have a closer look.

Yemeni families sue US, allege “wrongful deaths” from drone strike
Washington - The families of two Yemeni men killed in 2012 have sued the United States, alleging they were innocent bystanders hit by missiles from a US drone strike and calling for an acknowledgement of their “unlawful deaths.”

In a wrongful death lawsuit filed late Sunday, the families of Salem bin Ali Jaber and Waleed bin Ali Jaber said their deaths “violated the laws of war and norms of customary international law” and “provide a case study of the failures of the drone war.”

The lawsuit does not seek any monetary relief, according to the 43-page filing.
That would be haram...
Salem, an imam, and Waleed, a police officer, were killed on August 29, 2012 in the eastern Yemeni village of Khashamir when Hellfire missiles were fired from a US drone near the local mosque, according to the complaint.

Representatives for the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The lawsuit named US President Barack Obama, former Defence Secretary Leon Panetta and former CIA Director David Petraeus, as well as several other unnamed people, as defendants.

The United States has been conducting counterterrorism operations in Yemen for years as it targeted Al Qaeda there with the support of President AbdRabbo Mansour Hadi. US officials have said armed, unmanned aircraft are a useful tool in fighting militants but have acknowledged the practice has led to what they call “blowback” in places such as Yemen.

In 2013, Obama set tighter rules on drone strikes and promised greater transparency for the program.
Just like he's implemented greater transparency for every other program in his administration...
The lawsuit, first reported by the New York Times, said the two men were inadvertently killed when they met with three youths who had requested a meeting with Salem, who took Waleed along as protection.
The three youths were just wayward elk hunters...
“Though the United States government has never acknowledged it publicly, it appears that drone operators had evidence that the three young men were elk hunters Qaeda members and assumed the other two must be as well,” the Times panted wrote.
Why would an iman meet with three hard boyz, and take a friend along for protection? Strains credibility, it does...
Salem had recently preached against Al Qaeda, and the plaintiffs said they believe none of the three youths were high level targets for the United States, the complaint says.
High enough to be tracked and whacked...
After the deaths the families of Salem and Waleed received $155,000 in compensation from the Yemen government, but it was unclear where the money originated, according to the lawsuit.

Appointment of PM's new special assistant upsets many in PML-N
[DAWN] Former PML-Q senator Haroon Akhtar has been appointed Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Revenue.

His appearance at Saturday's post-budget presser alongside Finance Minister Ishaq Dar took many people, including politicians of the ruling party, by surprise. It was like a thunderbolt for many senior PML-N leaders who were hoping to get cabinet portfolios and were yet to digest the appointment of Marvi Memon as Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). She will be overseeing distribution in the coming fiscal year of Rs104 billion set aside in the new budget for the programme.

Both Ms Marvi and Mr Akhtar were in the inner sanctum of former military ruler Gen Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
"There is already enough resentment in the party over the appointment of Gen Musharraf's loyalists to various positions and it will certainly increase with the induction of Mr Akhtar," one PML-N leader told Dawn.

Modi blames Pakistan for spreading terrorism in India
[DAWN] Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an address at Dhaka University on Sunday blamed Pakistain for spreading terrorism and fear in neighbouring India, according to a report on Hindustan Times website.

"Pakistain aaye din India, jo naako dum la deta hai, terrorism ko badhawa deta hai... ki ghatnaayein ghatthi rehti hain," PM Modi said in his address to Dhaka University on Sunday.

(Every now and then Pakistain keeps disturbing India, creates nuisance, promotes terrorism and such incidents keep recurring.)

"Terrorism has no boundaries. India has been troubled by it for the last 40 years. So many innocent people have died and what did those associated with terrorism gain and what have they given to the world... Terrorism has no values, no principles, no traditions and it has only one motive and that is enmity against humanity," he said.

He invited Bangladesh to join hands with India to counter terrorism and create peace, while he spoke at the Bangabandhu International Convention Center in Dhaka before his departure on June 7.

"If we had a diabolic mindset, we do not know what decision we would have taken," he said, reminding the students of how India had intervened in Bangladesh's 1971 liberation war.

Modi's two day visit to Bangladesh reaffirmed the two countries "unequivocal and uncompromising position against extremism and terrorism in all forms and manifestations" declaration.

This land swap declaration also ensured that the thousands of people living near the Bangladeshi and Indian borders will be allowed to choose their nationality. They agreed upon sharing classified information relating to any terrorist or threatening activities along the adjoining borders.

Strike observed in Quetta over Hazara killings
[DAWN] A shutter-down strike was observed in Quetta on Monday after the previous day's Hazara killings as shops and business centers at Bacha Khan Chowk, Alamdar Road and Liaquat Bazar remained closed.

On Sunday, police sources said suspected murderous Moslems shot up two shops near Bacha Khan Chowk, the city's commercial hub, killing five people belonging to the Hazara community.

Later, around 500 people from the community erupted into the streets in protest against the incident, carrying the coffins of the dear departed. The protesters placed the coffins of the victims on the road and rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud against the government for failing to protect them.

Modi trolled for lauding Hasina's courage in fighting terror 'despite being a woman'
[DAWN] It was meant to be a compliment but it seems to have gone sour.

As he concluded his two-day visit to neighbouring Bangladesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised his counterpart the loathesome Sheikh Hasina
...Bangla dynastic politician and current Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She has been the President of the Bangla Awami League since the Lower Paleolithic. She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangla. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She has once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia show such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums..
for her courage in fighting terrorism "despite being a woman".

"We know solution for everything, but not terrorism," the Prime Minister is reported to have said in his hour-long address to Dhaka University.

"I am happy that Bangladesh Prime Minister, despite being a woman, has declared zero tolerance for terrorism."

Even though the remark was meant to be a gesture of praise, social-media users interpreted it as an insult to women around the world.

Back home, Twitter started buzzing with tweets attached with pictures of women achievers of India: scientists from the Indian Space Research Organisation, foreign ministers, sportswomen and more.

Jordan unveils border surveillance system
[Iran Press TV] Jordan has unveiled a partially US-funded border surveillance system to secure its borders from any infiltration by hard boyz from Iraq and Syria.

The border security system, which includes radar and surveillance towers, provides Jordanian forces with the capacity to pinpoint the location of suspected infiltrators several kilometers before they reach the country's borders, Colonel Robert Paddock, a defense attache at the US Embassy in the capital, Amman, revealed on Monday.

Jordan, one of Washington's regional allies in the so-called US-led coalition fighting terrorism, shares borders with Iraq and Syria, which have been beset by deadly violence perpetrated by terrorist groups, especially the ISIL Takfiri

Deputy of former Iranian president Ahmadinejad arrested
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Iranian authorities detained a former vice-president on Monday on undeclared charges, local news agencies reported, months after another deputy to Mahmoud Short Round Ahmadinejad was sentenced in a graft scandal.

"Former vice-president Hamid Baghaei had a charge sheet issued against him by the judiciary and the prosecutor summoned him today for questioning," judiciary front man Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei was quoted as saying by the Fars news agency.

In January, former vice-president Mohammad Reza Rahimi was locked away

for five years and ordered to pay 38.5 billion rials ($1.3 million) in connection with a money laundering and embezzlement scheme worth billions of dollars.

Mohseni-Ejei did not reveal whether the case against Baghaei was linked to the embezzlement scandal, saying he was not allowed to specify the charges.

If it emerges that the charges are linked, the case could provide further evidence connecting the embezzlement scandal to senior members of former president Ahmadinejad's government and put pressure on Ahmadinejad himself.

Rahimi wrote a letter to Ahmadinejad after his arrest, later leaked, that linked Ahmadinejad to the scandal. Ahmadinejad has denied any involvement, and his supporters say accusations against him are politically motivated.

Last year, a billionaire businessman was hanged in connection with the scandal, which was exposed in 2011 and cast a shadow over Ahmadinejad's presidency, two years before the end of his second term.
