Taliban launch coordinated attack on security check posts in Kunar
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs launched coordinated attack on a number of security check posts in eastern Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
of Afghanistan.

According to local security officials, the attack was launched on security check posts in Marwara district by hundreds of Talibs.

Provincial police chief Abdul Habib Syed Khel said additional forces were deployed to the area after the security forces made tactical retreat from a number of check posts.

There are no reports regarding the casualties incurred to the security forces or civilians as a result of the attack.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
the provincial public health officials said at least 33 people injured during the festivities were taken to hospital for treatment.

The officials further added that a civilian was also killed during the shootout.

Kunar is among the volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed Lion of Islam groups are actively operating and frequently carry out insurgency activities.

Africa Horn
Kenyan President Says Troops Will Stay in Somalia
[AnNahar] Kenya's president vowed Wednesday to keep troops in Somalia to fight Islamist Shabaab rebels, apparently dismissing suggestions the country may be drawing up an exit strategy in order to focus on attacks on its own soil.

Kenyan troops crossed into Somalia in 2011 to fight the Al-Qaeda-affiliated myrmidons, and later joined the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
force, AMISOM, which is supporting Somalia's internationally-backed government.

The Shabaab have since stepped up their operations in Kenya, dealing a blow to plans for the troops to serve as a buffer and protect the long, mostly non-existent border.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who met with other leaders contributing troops to AMISOM -- including Burundi, Djibouti, Æthiopia and Uganda -- at an AU summit in South Africa last week, said Kenya's role was clear.

He insisted Kenya "will continue with the mission to support the stabilization of the Horn of Africa country," a statement from the presidency said.

"We are a nation that appreciates and recognizes the rights of every individual and their freedom of worship. We will not allow any person to force on us a way of life that is not ours," he was quoted as saying during a visit to soldiers maimed in a recent attack.

The chairman of the Kenyan Senate's National Security and Foreign Relations Committee, Yusuf Hajji, signaled earlier this month that an exit strategy was no longer taboo and that Kenya wanted to create "a strategy on how to fight insecurity in Kenya".

The comments prompted widespread speculation about whether Kenya could be laying the ground for a pull-out.

Shabaab units -- hunted by African Union troops and U.S. drones inside Somalia -- have outflanked the Kenyan contingent inside Somalia to mount a string of gruesome cross-border raids.

The upsurge in attacks and the emergence of Kenya-based Shabaab cells is now Kenya's number-one security headache.

Kenyan defense chief, General Samson Mwathethe, said the military would spare no efforts to drive the Lions of Islam out of the country.

"We will follow them in the bush, we will follow them at sea and we will follow them everywhere they go until we make sure they are out of our borders," Mwathethe said.

group, a judicial source said on Wednesday.

A court in the capital Nouakchott handed down the sentences late on Tuesday after a trial lasting just one day, the source said on condition of anonymity.

The men, whose ages were not specified, were convicted of "belonging to a terrorist organization and possession of terrorist propaganda" following their arrest in October last year.

They denied the charge but the court was shown a video in which all three pledged allegiance to IS, the source said.

The group ringleader received 10 years while the other two received five and seven year sentences.

The convictions were the first for links to IS in Mauritania, although the country is holding 30 prisoners for involvement with al-Qaeda, 10 of them on death row.

Kidnappings and attacks by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) were frequent when Mauritania's President Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz came to power in 2008.

But he boasts that he has turned his nation into a regional haven of peace thanks to his reorganization of the military and security forces.

The mainly Moslem republic, sandwiched between the west coast of Africa and the Sahara desert, is seen by Western leaders as a bulwark against al-Qaeda-linked groups.

In 2010 and 2011, Mauritanian troops carried out successful "preventative" raids on AQIM bases in neighboring Mali, before the armed fundamentalists could carry out planned attacks on Mauritania.

Accidental Blast Kills 13 in NE Nigeria
[AnNahar] At least 13 people were killed and 53 others injured in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
when an bomb detonated, a health official and vigilantes helping the military against Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
said Wednesday.

The device was picked up by one of the vigilantes as they traveled back to the town of Monguno, in Borno state, from a military operation against the Islamists in Marte, 40 kilometers (26 miles) away.

Salisu Kwaya Bura, chief medical director at the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital in Borno's state capital where the dead and injured were taken, said 13 people bit the dust.

A total of 53 people were maimed, of whom 37 were later discharged, he told Borno state governor Kashim Shettima.

Vigilante leader Abdullahi Amadu Bukar earlier told AFP that 12 members were killed in what he described as an "accidental kaboom".

"We have brought seven of the dead to Maiduguri this morning (Wednesday) and left five others behind in Monguno," he said.

The vigilantes had been fighting Boko Haram alongside troops in Marte when one of them picked up the bomb and brought it back to Monguno.

It went kaboom! late on Tuesday as the civilian fighters were examining it on the outskirts of the town, said Bukar, whose account was backed up by another vigilante, Awwal Ibrahim.

Nigeria's military claimed to have liberated Marte and Monguno in February after a ground and air campaign, but Bukar said Boko Haram had returned to Marte once troops withdrew.

Elsewhere, a military truck accompanying technicians from a Nigerian power company to make repairs in the Damboa district of Borno on Monday hit a roadside kaboom believed to have planted by the rebels.

Three soldiers were killed in the blast, forcing the team to abandon the mission and return to Maiduguri, 86 kilometers away, according to local vigilante sources‎.

Chad bans Islamic face veil after suicide bombings
[BBC] Chad has banned people from wearing the full-face veil, following two suicide kabooms on Monday.

Chad's government accused Nigerian Lion of Islam Islamist group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
of the bombings which killed more than 20 people.

The prime minister said the veil was used as a "camouflage" by faceless myrmidons and said the security forces will burn all full-face veils sold in markets.

Chad is to host a new regional force set up to tackle Boko Haram.

The Lion of Islam group has not commented on the attack but has previously threatened to attack Chad, after its forces started to help Nigeria.

At a meeting with religious leaders, Prime Minister Kalzeube Pahimi Deubet said the ban applied everywhere, not only public places.

He added that any clothing that covers everything but the eyes was a camouflage.

The attackers were on cycle of violences when they blew themselves up outside two police buildings in the capital, N'Djamena.

[ARABNEWS] A special criminal court sentenced 22 members of a terror cell to jail terms of between five and 17 years on Wednesday mostly for the illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.

Three other members of the 45-member cell, known as the Muwahhideen, were sentenced a few days ago by the court, a local publication reported Wednesday.

There were jail terms of five, six, seven and eight years handed out to four men respectively. In addition, the court announced nine years jail for three, 10 years for two, 11 years for one, 12 years for two, 13 years for two, 14 years for one, and 17 years for one.

Most were convicted of possessing weapons and ammunition without licenses. The court ruled that their detention prior to the verdicts would be counted as additional punishment.

Two of the 22 men were not present in the court. All have been banned from traveling outside the country for a period equal to their jail time. They have the right to appeal within 30 days of receiving an official copy of the court's verdicts.

prominent opposition leader Ali Salman, whose arrest drew US and Iranian condemnation and sparked protests across the tiny but strategic Gulf kingdom.

Salman was sentenced to four years in jail for inciting disobedience and hatred in the state, a judicial source said.

But he was acquitted of the more serious charge of seeking to overthrow the monarchy and change the political system.

Salman, 49, was also found guilty of "insulting an official body," the source said, referring to the interior ministry.

groups. It also triggered demonstrations across the kingdom. Salman was present for the verdict, which was delivered amid tight security outside the Manama court, witnesses said.

He heads the Al-Wefaq Shia political association, which once held the most seats in Bahrain's parliament.

Its 18 MPs walked out in February 2011 to protest violence used against demonstrators during nationwide protests.
The group boycotted the last elections in November.

On Tuesday, Al-Wefaq slammed the "false" ruling against Salman and demanded his release.

"We reject anything less than a non-guilty verdict for Sheikh Ali Salman.

We consider this a false and injust ruling that is based on an illogical case and lacks sound foundations," Al-Wefaq said in a statement.

The destruction of member of parliament Abdel-Aziz Jubari's house in Dhamar city coincided with more air strikes by Saudi-led forces on military targets throughout Yemen in support of the government.

In Geneva, the U.N.-sponsored talks between the warring factions went into a second day. A delegate said on Tuesday the parties had agreed on the need for a ceasefire but others said a deal was still far off.

Dhamar residents said that the Houthis, who had taken over Jubari's house in April, dynamited the building early in the morning. Yemeni websites published picture of its collapsed ceiling on top of a pile of rubble.

Jubari, who is deputy head of the delegation sent to Geneva by ousted President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, said he was shocked when he heard the news.

"This is regrettable that people's manners and behaviors can reach this point," Jubari told in Geneva.

"Of course my house is not the only house in Yemen...a lot of people's homes and properties have been targeted in an unbelievable way."

Foreign Minister Reyad Yassin Abdulla, the head of the government delegation said: "It is in this spirit of Dire Revenge that they are dealing with all the Yemeni people and we cannot remain silent on this."

Houthi officials were not immediately available to comment.

Al-Qaida Kills 2 Alleged Spies After Yemen Leader Killed

killed two men accused of spying for the United States and hung their bodies off a bridge on Wednesday, a day after the jihadi group announced the death of its leader in a U.S. drone strike.

Witnesses said al-Qaeda gunnies in the southern city of Mukalla read out charges before shooting the two men, one of whom was accused of guiding the U.S. drone that killed commander Nasr al-Ansi and a media liaison known as Muhannad Ghalab in April.

Al-Qaeda supporters posted pictures online that showed the two men blindfolded on a sandy beach, said to be the site of a previous drone strike. Another picture showed a body in bloody clothes with its arms spread apart and lashed to a pole, dangling off the side of a bridge.

The killings came a day after al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

, as the Yemeni affiliate is known, said its leader, Nasir al-Wahishi, was killed in a U.S. drone strike last week.

Al-Qaeda captured Mukalla in April after Yemen's army splintered between allies and opponents of Iranian catspaws known as Houthis, who captured the capital last year. But the city has proven to be something of a death trap, with U.S. drone strikes in and around Mukalla killing not only al-Wahishi and al-Ansi, but also a senior religious ideologue, Ibrahim al-Rubaish.

In series of online postings, al-Qaeda members said one of the two men rubbed out Wednesday was a Saudi national loyal to the Islamic State

China Police Shoot Man Dead at Train Station
[AnNahar] Chinese police on Wednesday rubbed out a Uighur man who allegedly attacked several people at a train station with a concrete brick, officials said, in the country's latest deadly station incident.

Officers in the northern Chinese city of Xian opened fire on the man after he attacked "people buying tickets," the city's rail police said in a social media post, adding he later died of injuries.

The brief post identified the man as a member of China's mostly-Moslem Uighur minority whose homeland is the northwest region of Xinjiang, but provided no further details.

No details were given on whether any of the people attacked with the brick had received serious injuries.

Blurred pictures posted by state-broadcaster CCTV showed a person lying on the ground surrounded by more than a dozen police, some holding sticks.

Ordinary police in major Chinese cities began patrolling with guns for the first time last year, in response to a mass train station knifing which killed 31 and was blamed on separatists from Xinjiang.

Dilxat Raxit, front man for the exiled World Uyghur Congress, said in a statement that the killing in Xian showed the "classic hostile attitude of Chinese security forces".

Local police refused to comment when contacted by AFP.

In March, police in the southern city of Guangzhou killed a man suspected of carrying out a knife attack at a train station which left nine people maimed, state-media said at the time.

Hong Kong's South China Morning Post newspaper cited locals as saying police had rubbed out two Uighur women in Guangzhou just hours before that attack in March.

Gun violence is rare in China, where the ownership of firearms is tightly controlled.

Local police were accused of using excessive force last month after officers rubbed out 45-year Xu Chunhe at a train station in the northwestern city of Qingan.

After calls to release surveillance footage of the man's killing, state-media released an edited video showing Xu brawling with an officer.

Rights groups believe Beijing's repression of the Uighurs' culture and religion has fanned tensions in Xinjiang, a resource-rich region that abuts central Asia.

Accused Garland conspirator had plan to attack Super Bowl: prosecutors
[NYDAILYNEWS] An alleged conspirator in the shootout at an anti-Islamic event in Garland, Texas last month wanted to attack this year's Super Bowl game, prosecutors say.
"Hey, guys! Let's do somethin' really stoopid for the Greater Glory of Allan!"
"Good idea! Like what?"

Abdul Malik Abdul Kareem, 43, expressed interest in joining Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. and desired to strike on Super Bowl XLIX at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., said FBI special agent Dina McCarthy on the witness stand at Kareem's first court appearance Tuesday.

Kareem faces charges of conspiracy, making false statements and interstate transportation of firearms with intent to commit a felony, and he's accused of providing advice and guns to the would-be faceless myrmidons in the foiled May 3 raid on the "Draw Muhammad" contest.

The FBI agent didn't go into specifics about how close Kareem really got to executing any plots on the country's largest sporting event, but prosecutors hope to use her testimony to build the case against Kareem.

"This is an individual who is apt to incite violence," prosecutor Kristen Brook said. "This defendant, based on all these facts, is dangerous, he is off-the-charts dangerous."
NBC has more details about the hospitable habitual criminal:
An indictment filed in federal court in Phoenix last week says that 43-year-old Abdul Kareem hosted the gunnies in his home beginning in January and provided the guns they used in the May 3 shooting in Garland, Texas. The indictment also says others were involved, but no other arrests or indictments have been made.

Abdul Kareem practiced shooting with Simpson, Soofi and others in the remote desert outside Phoenix between January and May, the indictment said. He hosted the gunnies and others in his home to discuss the contest and the shooters' plans to travel to Texas to attack the event, according to the indictment.

Court records in Phoenix show Abdul Kareem had a criminal record, struggled with substance abuse and had difficulty finding steady employment.

He was born and raised in Philadelphia as Decarus Lowell Thomas and changed his name to Abdul Malik Abdul Kareem in 2013.

Kareem attended the same Phoenix mosque where Soofi and Simpson occasionally prayed.
And An Nahar points out that Mr. Thomas Kareem is a known wolf:
FBI special agent Dina McCarthy said a 2012 investigation into Kareem determined he had a terrorism training document on his computer and an al-Qaida magazine on a flash drive.

Feds: NYC man tried to stab agent during ISIS-related probe
A second college student was incarcerated
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
Wednesday in the investigation of an alleged plot to stage a pressure-cooker kaboom in New York City on behalf of the Islamic State

of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Fereed Mumuni, 21, was ordered held without bail on attempted murder charges that accuse him of trying to kill an FBI agent with a large kitchen knife when agents tried to execute a search warrant at his Staten Island home.

CBS New York reports that Mumuni also allegedly tried to grab another agent's rifle during the incident.

He became the latest defendant in the spate of cases in the city and elsewhere involving young men and women allegedly radicalized by the Death Eater group's propaganda.

After his arrest, Mumuni told Sherlocks he had pledged allegiance to ISIS and that he planned to travel overseas to fight with the Death Eaters, according to government papers. If he didn't succeed with that, "he intended to attack law enforcement officers," the papers added.

Outside federal court in Brooklyn, defense attorney Anthony Ricco denied that Mumuni was an ISIS convert. Ricco said his client is a practicing Moslem who attends the College of Staten Island.

The arrest surprised his family, who "know him as a quiet, soft-spoken person," Ricco added.

Islamic State says shot down Iraqi fighter plane

said on Thursday it had shot down an Iraqi fighter plane north of the city of Ramadi in Anbar Province.

It was not immediately possible to confirm the claim made on one of Islamic State's Twitter accounts. A member of an anti-Islamic State Sunni force called Sahwa (Awakening) said an Iraqi fighter jet, a Russian-made Su-25, was seen in flames as it crashed after being shot down north of Ramadi.

#2  Only thing worse than Russian maintenance - Iranian maintenance. It's likely that the Su-25 was one of Saddam's jets that fled to Iran in 1991.

Daesh terrorists kill 5 policemen near Baiji
[ARABNEWS] Daesh has killed five coppers in a town near Iraq's biggest refinery, in an attack that may help ease pressure on some of its fighters trapped in the strategically important facility, a security official said on Wednesday.

The official in a regional security command center said the holy warriors mounted the operation at Tal Albu Jarad village as part of a battle for control of Baiji refinery, which has changed hands several times.

After receiving reinforcements, Daesh gunnies recaptured three neighborhoods in the town of Baiji near the refinery, but fresh festivities have erupted there, the security official said.

The fighting has seen some Daesh fighters become trapped in the refinery while siege from government forces and militias.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Kinnison began his slow infiltration of the sewer system...
the US called for a "greater commitment" from Iraq's government in the fight against Daesh as it lamented Baghdad's failure to deliver enough soldiers for training and underscored the need to empower Sunni rustics.

"As I've told Iraqi leaders, while the US is open to supporting Iraq more than we already are, we must see a greater commitment from all parts of the Iraqi government," US Defense Secretary Ash Carter told a congressional hearing in prepared testimony.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Suspected Mastermind of 1982 Paris Attack on Jews 'Held in Jordan'
At least the mills of justice are grinding...
[AnNahar] The suspected criminal mastermind of an attack on a Gay Paree Jewish restaurant in 1982 that left six people dead and 22 injured, has been placed in durance vile
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
in Jordan, a source close to the case said Wednesday.

Zuhair Mohamad Hassan Khalid al-Abassi, alias "Amjad Atta", was one of three men for whom La Belle France issued an international arrest warrant earlier this year.

He was picked up on June 1 and an extradition request is underway, said a French legal source.

Overall, between three and five men are thought to have taken part in the attack, which was blamed on the Abu Nidal Organization, a Paleostinian bad boy group.

The other two main suspects in the 1982 attack have been named as Mahmoud Khader Abed Adra, alias "Hicham Harb", who lives in Ramallah in the West Bank, and Walid Abdulrahman Abu Zayed, alias "Souhail Othman", a resident of Norway.

The Abu Nidal Organization, officially known as the Fatah-Revolutionary Council, was considered one of the most ruthless of the Paleostinian bad boy groups.

"Amjad Atta" is thought to have been the number three in the group's "special operations committee."

The attack on the Chez Jo Goldenberg restaurant -- in the Marais district, a popular largely Jewish neighborhood in the center of Gay Paree -- began around midday on August 9, 1982 when a grenade was tossed into the dining room.

Two men then entered the restaurant, which had around 50 customers inside, and opened fire with "WZ-63" Polish-made machine guns.

They also shot at passers-by as they escaped down the street. The whole incident lasted only a few minutes.

The investigation has made little progress over the years. One of the few pieces of evidence was one of the guns, found in the Bois de Boulogne park on the western edge of Gay Paree shortly after the attack.

At the time, La Belle France often suffered the spillover from the conflict in the Middle East, with numerous festivities involving Arabs and Jews on its soil.

Two years prior to the Goldenberg attack, a bomb went kaboom! outside a Gay Paree synagogue, killing four and wounding around 20.

And more than thirty years later, the French capital would again be rocked by an anti-Semitic attack, as jihadist gunnies took hostages at a Jewish supermarket and killed four -- part of the Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
attacks that left 17 dead in total.

- 'Closer to a trial' -
Martine Bouccara, a lawyer for the son of one of the victims, Andre Hezkia, hailed the breakthrough in the case more than three decades after the killings.

"This new legal advance can only be welcome for the civil parties because it gets us finally closer to a trial," she said.

David Pere, a lawyer for the AFVT association that represents French victims of terrorism, said it was a "major breakthrough" that means "someone will be in the dock when there's a trial."

"But it just goes to underline the lack of action by the countries where the other two suspects reside, Norway and the Paleostinian Authority," added Pere.

According to his information, Oslo has not responded to the French request to arrest the suspect Walid Abdulrahman Abu Zayed.

Contacted by AFP in March, Abu Zayed's lawyer Ole-Martin Meland said his client denied any involvement in the attack, stressing he "wasn't there" when it occurred.

19 children killed in missile attack on Quranic school east Daraa
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] At least 24 people, including 19 children, were killed in the eastern countryside of Daraa province when regime fired a missile on a Koranic schoolroom, activists said Tuesday.

The missile attack on the town of al-Ghara al-Sharqiya has targeted a seminar for Koran memorization, what made most of victims from children.

The corpse count is expected to rise, medics said.

Regime air force is deliberately attacking Syrian children backed by sectarian ideology says rebels' children are no more than a potential enemy, analysts say.

The southern region near the border with Jordan and Israel is one of the areas where snuffies have inflicted significant defeats on Bashir al-Assad in the last three months, notably by capturing the Nasib border crossing with Jordan on April 1.

'Elephant rockets' kill dozens in Douma
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] The Syrian government has used so-called elephant rockets in an attack on the Damascus suburb of Douma, killing at least 36 people, including children, according to activists.

The rockets, named after the distinctive noise they make when they are launched, are improvised weapons made by attaching rocket motors to much larger bombs - a process that increases their destructive power while greatly reducing accuracy.

This greatly increases their destructive effect, while accuracy is lost and range is limited.

On Wednesday, activists accused the government of using surface-to-surface missiles in Douma as festivities continued between opposition fighters and government forces.

In video posted online of Tuesday's attack, residents were seen scrambling to rescue a brother and sister trapped after a building was destroyed.

There were shouts of joy as the girl was pulled alive from the rubble while her brother could still be heard calling for help.

More than 60 people, including many children, were maimed in the bombardment, activists said.

Syria's state-run SANA news agency said two shells struck Arnous Park in Damascus late on Tuesday as many people were out shopping ahead of the Moslem holy month of Ramadan, expected to begin on Thursday. It says the shells killed nine people and maimed 13.

Rebels seize new neighborhood in Aleppo
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Four children were among seven civilians killed in renewed rebel rocket fire on government-held areas of Syria's second city Aleppo, AFP said on Wednesday.

Tuesday's fire came despite UN condemnation of a massive barrage the previous day that killed at least 36 civilians, 14 of them children.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said there were also "many" maimed but did not immediately give a figure.

Both sides frequently bombard each other but Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP that Monday's deaths marked "one of the highest tolls in opposition attacks in Aleppo city".

Control of Aleppo is divided between rebels in the east, and forces loyal to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

A field source told Zaman al-Wasl that rebels took control of al-Rashidin neighborhood in Aleppo early Wednesday, killing at least 30 regime fighters.

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia had made her point with her knee to Jane's stomach...
the festivities are still underway in Halab al-Jadida, the next-door neighborhood.
