Taliban Militants Kill up to 15 Police in Southern Afghanistan
[ALMANAR.LB] Taliban Lions of Islam dressed in police uniforms killed up to 15 coppers after raiding a security checkpoint in southern Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday, in the latest attack of their intensifying summer offensive.

The attack on Tuesday in Musa Qala district in the volatile province of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
highlights an expanding insurgency that has left beleaguered Afghan forces stretched on multiple fronts.

"At least nine coppers were killed after Lions of Islam disguised in police uniforms attacked a check post in Musa Qala district," said Omar Zwak, front man for the governor of Helmand.

But Bashir Shakir, a member of the provincial council, gave a higher toll, saying 15 coppers were killed in the late night attack.

Taliban front man Qari Yusouf Ahmadi grabbed credit for the raid.

The Taliban are stepping up their summer offensive, launched in late April, amid a bitter leadership dispute following the announcement of the death of longtime supremo Mullah Omar

IS kills 38 in Sirte, threatens to use gas
[Libya Herald] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) has reported to have threatened to use gas against people in Sirte unless attacks against it stop.

House of Representatives member from nearby Sidra, Saleh Fhaima, told the Libya Herald the ultimatum runs out at 6pm this evening. He said he and Sirte member Zaid Hadia had been phoned by a contact in Sirte who had informed them that 38 members of the Ferjani tribe had been killed today by IS which had been shelling Sirte's residential district No. 3. It is said to be the only are in the town not under IS control. Among the dead in today's mass IS offensive, he said, were two children and four elderly people, all killed as a result of shelling. The others were Ferjani fighters. They are said to include the leader of the local Jaat Brigade, Marbouk Al Farjani.

Those fighting IS are reported to have relative few weapons largely, it is claimed, because when Misratan forces were stationed in the town, they regarded the locals as Qadaffy sympathisers.

Yesterday, it was reported that fighting in the centre of town between resulted in the deaths of two IS commanders: Abu Huzaifa Ansari, a Saudi national, and Abu Hammam Masri, an Egyptian. Two local you men fighting against them, were also said to have been killed.

The fighting broke out two days ago following the murder by IS of a Salafist holy man, Khalid bin Rajab Ferjani, the imam at the town's Cordoba Mosque. IS have managed to take over all the mosques in the town with the exception of those run by Salafists
...Salafists are ostentatiously devout Moslems who figure the ostentation of their piety gives them the right to tell others how to do it and to kill those who don't listen to them...
who have refused to hand them over. The imam is said to have been one of those who rejected IS' demands.

Fhaima said he and Hadia have called on the international community -- specifically the US and the UK -- to take military action to save the Farjan tribe from being wiped out by IS in Sirte. He also said that Hadia, himself a member of tribe, had gone to Marj to appeal for help from the head of the armed forces, General Khalifa Hafter, also a member.

In a statement, Fhaima also said that district No. had been subjected to constant shelling by heavy weapons and that IS was advancing without much difficult because people there had neither weapons nor ammunition. He added that if IS won this battle, there would be no further uprisings against it in Sirte, that it would control the whole town and be able to spread to all the surrounding oil fields.

Using the Incirlik base outside the city of Adana in southern Turkey drastically cuts the distance needed for the US jets to fly to northern Syria compared with other launch bases further afield in the Middle East.

"Today, the United States began flying manned counter-ISIL missions from Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. Strikes were conducted," Pentagon spokeswoman Commander Elissa Smith said.

Turkey's Dogan news agency said three US fighter jets were seen taking off from Incirlik in the evening.

Last month, Turkey agreed to open up the base to coalition planes for bombing ISIL targets in Syria following months of tough negotiations.

[DAWN] The government has revealed that terrorist organizations are operating around 3,000 websites to promote their nefarious agenda in the country.

This was disclosed by PML-N politician Tahir Iqbal during the meeting of the sub-committee of National Assembly's Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication.

The committee met on Thursday to re-examine the proposals received on the 'Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill, 2015' at the Parliament House earlier in the day.

Iqbal said that the government wants to finalise the 'Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill, 2015' as soon as possible, since it was demanded by law enforcement agencies to implement the National Action Plan (NAP) in its accordance.

Members of the NA sub-committee discussed several offences and punishments one by one which were severely criticised by the opposition members in the committee, lawyers, NGO's and members of human rights

One terrorist has also been awarded life imprisonment, said the ISPR.

Iraq
Germany confirms Peshmerga fighting ISIS attacked by chemical weapons
BERLIN, Germany -- The German military on Thursday confirmed a possible chemical weapons attack on Kurdish Peshmerga soldiers fighting the Islamic State group (ISIS).
Homemade chemical weapons or just the ones the U.S. Democratic Party assured us that Saddam didn't have?
The autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq had asked for international help to determine whether chemical weapons had been used in an attack late Tuesday on the Peshmerga on the Makhmur front, some 35 kilometers (22 miles) southwest of Erbil.

There was a “possible chemical weapons attack on the Kurdish frontlines at sector six,” the German defense ministry said.

Muhammad Khoshawi, a Peshmerga commander, told Rudaw on Wednesday that a group of Western experts had arrived in the area to take samples and establish facts after a Tuesday night mortar attack on Kurdish positions in Makhmur, some 35 kilometers (22 miles) southwest of Erbil.

“Last night at least 45 mortar rounds were fired at our positions, which we believe were loaded with chemicals, since the wounds are different,” Khoshawi, whose forces patrol the area, had said.

Burn wounds on the bodies of a number of Peshmerga were examined by the experts and sent to a laboratory for further studies, according to Khoshawi. He said Peshmerga forces in the area were instructed to use gas masks in case of mortar attacks until results are verified in the laboratory.

This spring, the Kurdish government informed its allies that Peshmerga forces were attacked with chlorine gas. Late last year, ISIS repotedly seized an Iraqi chemical weapons factory with about 2,500 rockets, containing the deadly nerve agent Sarin.
More of the weapons Saddam never had, no sir...
About 80 German soldiers are stationed in the Kurdistan Region to train the Peshmerga forces. Germany is one of the few countries supplying the Kurdish troops directly through Erbil and not through the Iraqi central government in Bagdad. The German defense ministry said that there will be no changes for the mission in the Kurdistan Region. German soldiers will continue to train Peshmerga forces.

12 people in two suspected drug rings, and seized 300 kilograms of illicit tablets.

"There are also two women among the detainees with an unspecific amount of illicit drugs, including heroin, opium and crystal methamphetamine," police General Jalal Amin told Rudaw Wednesday. Amin said the confiscated drugs were planned to be sent to Iran through the border gates in the east of Kurdistan.

He said at least 60 people had been arrested in Sulaimani in drug-related offenses since the beginning of 2015.

Iraq has some of the toughest regulations in the region against illicit drugs, and authorities are given legal space to discipline both the dealer and the customer.

Zawahiri pledges allegiance to new Taliban leader
[ARABNEWS] Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri
... Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. Formerly the Mister Big of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Bumped off Abdullah Azzam with a car boom in the course of one of their little disputes. Is thought to have composed bin Laden's fatwa entitled World Islamic Front Against Jews and Crusaders. Currently residing in the North Wazoo area. That is not a horn growing from the middle of his forehead, but a prayer bump, attesting to how devout he is...
pledged the group's allegiance to new Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansour in an audio recording released Thursday on murderous Moslem websites.
Wonder how many years he's been dead...
"As emir of Al-Qaeda, I pledge to you our allegiance, following the path of Sheikh (Osama) Bin Laden and his martyred brothers in their allegiance to Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
," Zawahiri said, referring to the former Al-Qaeda leader and to the longtime Taliban chief whose death was confirmed last month.

The statement came amid a bitter struggle within the Taliban over Mansour's leadership.

The recording plays over a picture of Zawahiri, who is believed to be in hiding in the Afghanistan-Pakistain border region.

He said that the "emirate" established by the Taliban in Afghanistan was the "first legitimate emirate after the fall of the Ottoman Empire, and there is no legitimate emirate in the world apart from it."

#2  This makes little sense. In the past, the AQ has pledged no allegiance other than to itself. Zawahiri certainly has more cred both as a Muslim scholar and a Muslim jihadist than does Mullah Akhtar Mansour. It makes me wonder if Zawahiri is still alive, or if he has been forced to make this submission by the Pakistani ISI in order to continue to operate from South Waziristan/east Baluchistan.
