Struggle to control Libyan oil ports adds to global supply worries
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Libyan oil production could face protracted disruption as factions in the east have sought to seize control of crude exports, adding pressure to a tight global market.

Eastern factions have tried to take over oil exports in the past yet struggled to find buyers as Western nations insist they will only deal with the internationally recognised National Oil Corporation (NOC) based in the Libyan capital of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
But this has not stopped eastern forces from seeking control of the ports, accusing Libya’s western-based government of failing to share revenues fairly.

The latest tussle for power has already slashed national production to about 600,000 to 700,000 barrels per day (bpd) after it had been running earlier this year at 1 million bpd -- still well below the national output of 1.6 million bpd before a 2011 uprising plunged Libya into chaos.

Six dead in the attack against the G5 Sahel force HQ in Mali
[AFRICANEWS] Six people were killed Friday in an attack on G5 Sahel joint force headquarters in Sévaré, central Mali, which also injured many people, hospital and military sources said.

"I see only six bodies, the others are injured," said a hospital source, without further details. A military source confirmed a provisional corpse count of six, suggesting the possibility of casualties.

The G5 is a taskforce of soldiers from Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...

... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
Mali’s defence ministry earlier confirmed that Islamist holy warriors raided the headquarters on Friday afternoon, opening fire with rockets and guns and attempting to infiltrate the base.

Ministry front man Boubacar Diallo told Rooters that Malian forces were securing the site.

Violence by Islamist holy warriors has proliferated in the sparsely-populated Sahel in recent years, with groups linked to al Qaeda and Islamic State

using central and northern Mali as a launchpad for attacks across the region.

Western powers, including La Belle France and the United States, have provided significant funding to the G5 in a bid to beat back the jihadists. But the force has been slow to get off the ground, hobbled by delays disbursing the money and coordinating among the five countries.

I guess they would, wouldn't they?
Among the protesters were members of civil society organizations, union members, civilians in Sanaa and government officials.
Nice picture of them at the site, hollering and waving fists.
At the same time, officials and witnesses in Al Hudaydah said hundreds of families had to leave their homes to neighboring provinces, about two weeks after the coalition launched an attack on the coastal city to take over.

This recovery threatens to exacerbate the humanitarian situation in Yemen, as it is the main entry point for food, humanitarian aid and fuel supplies to the country.

China-Japan-Koreas
South Korea to tighten asylum laws as hundreds of Yemenis arrive
[AlAhram] South Korea will tighten laws governing the arrival of refugees, the Justice Ministry said on Friday, after a rapid rise in the number of Yemeni asylum seekers sparked anti-refugee sentiment in the racially homogeneous country.
No culture clash there, nope, nope...
More than 552 people from Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
arrived on the southern resort island of Jeju between January and May, more than the 430 Yemenis who had ever applied for refugee status in South Korea, the ministry said.

[Why] the asylum seekers have chosen Jeju can be traced to a direct flight from Kuala Lumpur, established by budget carrier AirAsia X in December, a Justice Ministry official said.
The country has granted refugee status to just over 800 people since 1994. The sudden surge in Yemeni arrivals has fuelled concern that many could be seeking economic advantage rather than protection and that they could lead to an increase in crime and other social problems.

More than 540,000 South Koreans have signed an online petition to the presidential Blue House in the past two weeks, asking the government to abolish or amend no-visa entries and the granting of refugee status to applicants.
Only let them in if they can eat kimchi...
The Justice Ministry said it will revise the Refugee Act to prevent abuses.

South Korea will also increase the number of officers reviewing refugee applications so as to "quickly review and thoroughly verify identities so as to meticulously review potential for problems including terrorism and violent crime".

South Korea has already blocked asylum seekers in Jeju from leaving the island and on June 1 dropped Yemen from the list of countries that would not require a visa when entering the country.

the asylum seekers have chosen Jeju can be traced to a direct flight from Kuala Lumpur, established by budget carrier AirAsia X in December, a Justice Ministry official said.

"A few Yemenis started to enter the country in early December and the news about the new flight spread among the 2,800 Yemenis in Malaysia," the official said, declining to be identified by name.

South Korea began accepting refugee applications in 1994 after acceding to the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees in 1992. The country also enacted the Refugee Act in 2013, becoming the first Asian country to pass its own refugee legislation which allows protection for refugees that have sufficient grounds for fear of persecution due to race, religion, nationality, social group or political view.

A total of 40,470 people have applied for asylum in South Korea since 1994. The government has so far granted refugee status to just 839.

Yemen has been locked in civil war for the past three years, with aid agencies warning earlier this year that the country is in danger of tipping into famine if fighting continues to disrupt imports of food aid.

A blogger has called a rally for Saturday in Seoul, under a banner reading "Fake Refugees GET OUT", with mothers of young children posting online they intend to join to raise concerns about crime and loss of jobs.

Over 100 people were reported maimed during the protests from tear gas and Israeli fire. Several Paleostinian medics were also said hurt from smoke inhalation.

The army said that throughout the afternoon, "thousands of Paleostinians participated in extremely violent riots and committed various acts of terror in several locations along the Gazoo Strip security fence."

Israeli forces responded with "large amounts of riot dispersal means and in specific cases where these means did not succeeded in negating the threat, resorted to live fire in accordance with the standard operating procedures," it said.

Fifteen fires broke out in Israel due to incendiary balloons and kites launched from the Gazoo Strip. Firefighters doused the blazes.

Police said multiple balloons with writing on them were found in communities near Gazoo. They urged residents to avoid touching the balloons and to call law enforcement.

Paleostinians managed to down a small Israeli drone that was filming crowds in central Gazoo, the army said. Officials said there was no loss of sensitive information.

Since protests broke out along the Gazoo border on March 30, at least 130 Paleostinians have been killed by Israeli fire, dozens of them acknowledged members of terror groups.

Israel says it is defending its border and nearby communities and accuses Hamas of using the protests as cover for attempts to breach the fence and carry out attacks. The army says it has fired on those who have attacked and endangered troops, sabotaged the border fence and tried to breach the border.
Ynet adds:
Some 2,000 Paleostinians gathered in the afternoon hours in six places along the Gazoo Strip border, and hundreds of them approached the border fence. IDF forces responded with crowd-dispersal means.

The number of participants in the protests was higher than in the past few weeks due to the fact that no World Cup matches were held Friday.

More from Al Arabiya:
Israeli forces shot and killed two Paleostinians, one of them a 14-year-old boy, and maimed 415 others with live fire and tear gas during protests along the Gazoo border on Friday, Gazoo health officials said.

Gazoo medical officials said the boy, Yasser Abu al-Naja and Mohammad al-Hamayda, 24, were hit by live bullets. They added that four other men maimed by live fire were at death's door.

Abu Sayyaf rebel wanted in mass kidnapping arrested
[PhilStar] Police arrested an Abu Sayyaf militant involved in a mass abduction and siege in Lamitan City, during a law enforcement operation late Thursday afternoon in a coastal village east of Zamboanga City. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. said Thursday.

Speaking at a meeting with military school graduates, Putin said 1,140 personnel, 13 warplanes and 14 helicopters were returning to Russia.

"All of them are people with experience and have been tested in combat. Both you and your colleagues will have to make full use of this experience for the combat training of personnel here on the territory of the Russian Federation for working out the most complex unusual tasks," the Russian president said.

During a surprise visit to Russia's Hemeimeem base in Syria's coastal province of Latakia in December, Putin ordered withdrawal of Russian troops from the war-torn country after announcing the defeat of ISIS terror group.

Jordan says ceasefire pact has been reached in Southern Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Jordanian official source said on Friday that there were confirmed reports of a ceasefire agreement in Southern Syria that would lead to a "reconciliation" between the Syrian regime’s forces and the opposition.

The source did not elaborate further on the reports on of an agreement in Southern Syria which is witnessing an intensive offensive by the Syrian regime since last week to regain the rebel-held areas.

Earlier, Jordanian government spokeswoman Jumana Ghunaimat told Petra, the Jordanian news agency that "Jordan welcomes any agreement for a ceasefire and de-escalation to save civilians’ lives, especially women and kiddies."

The Syrian regime offensive forced thousands of civilians to flee in the direction of the Jordanian border, while thousands of others sought shelter in areas close to the occupied Golan Heights.

Ghunaimat confirmed the kingdom’s refusal to allow into the country more Syrian refugees, saying: "Jordan with its limited potential and its suffocating financial crisis cannot bear the burden of receiving Syrians, but is fully prepared to cooperate with the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
to do its part without opening the border," she said.

Jordan is already hosting some 666,000 UN-registered Syrian refugees.
