New intel chief pivotal in releasing classified dossier bombshell
[Washington Times] Two Republican senators knew of some explosive details lurking inside an inspector general’s report when on April 2 they reached out to Richard Grenell, the newly installed acting director of national intelligence who was already making his mark in just two months.

The senators had read classified footnotes that showed Russia fed disinformation for the infamous Christopher Steele dossier used by the FBI to try to bring down President Trump. They wanted the secret spilled, legally.

Mr. Grenell’s decision that day would provide further evidence that a new type of government operative was running the nation’s vast intelligence collection networks. Mr. Grenell didn’t come out of the spying woodwork of which Mr. Trump remains suspicious. Mr. Trump in February tapped an avowed supporter who displayed his pro-administration bent on Twitter as ambassador to Germany.

Pres. Trump shares post saying John Durham indictments could come 'this week'
[Washington Examiner] President Trump shared a report that said indictments could be coming this week in U.S. Attorney John Durham's review of the Russia investigation.

Part of a flurry of retweets late Monday evening, Trump's verified Twitter account, which has 77.8 million followers, shared a post from Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett's personal website with the headline: "More Russia Spygate Indictments Coming ’This Week.’"

A post, authored by "staff" and shared by Jarrett's verified Twitter account, focused on a recent interview conducted by Fox Business host Lou Dobbs in which investigative reporter John Solomon said "some criminal investigative activity" indicated there "could be a handful of indictments and much more information" this week.

Solomon, who recently founded a new outlet, JustTheNews.com, became mired in controversy last year when his reporting on Ukraine for the Hill got swept up into the impeachment investigation and became subject to a review that found he "failed" to identify "important details about key Ukrainian sources."

No, but they're counting on Karen and the rest of their constituents to do so.

And then they're counting on the GOPe to do whatever Karen and her gaggle of Faceborg winebox harpies tells them to do.

#10  Any restriction can be legitimate only if it serves the purpose of reducing the spread of the China virus.

Restrictions that are perceived as vindictive, punitive, arbitrary and capricious only serve to delegitimize the entire effort, including those restrictions that are narrowly tailored to serve the legitimate purpose of fighting the pandemic.

Overreaching politicians and bureaucrats are objectively worsening the pandemic.

The Future Must Be Decentralized and Localized
[Liberty Blitzkrieg] We find ourselves at a moment where the financial and political systems that have dominated for decades are failing in a spectacular and irredeemable fashion. Those who pull the levers are (as usual) attempting to take advantage of the situation by rapaciously snatching and consolidating more wealth and power, while leaving the general public to rot. When faced with such a historic moment, one should assume a certain degree of responsibility to make sure the next paradigm ends up better than the one we’re leaving. If we fail to think deeply about an improved vision and framework for the future, someone else will do it for us.

From my perspective, humanity remains stuck within antiquated paradigms that generally function via predatory and authoritarian structures. We’ve been taught — and have largely accepted — that the really important decisions must be handled in a centralized manner by small groups of technocrats and oligarchs. As a result, we basically live within feudal constructs cleverly surrounded by entrenched myths of democracy and self-government. We’d prefer to be lazy rather than take any responsibility for the state of the world.

We’re now at a point where simply recognizing current structures as predatory and authoritarian isn’t good enough. We require a distinct and superior political philosophy that can appeal to others likewise extremely dissatisfied with the status quo. My belief is humanity’s next paradigm should swing heavily in the direction of decentralization and localism.

Decentralization and localism aren’t exactly the same, but can play well together and offer a new path forward. The simplest way to describe decentralization to Americans is to look at the political framework laid out in the U.S. Constitution.

#1  It does appear that things are heading in that direction. With the Coronavirus pandemic, Trump has put it in the hands of State governments to make decisions about their needs and when to open things up again; thus strengthening the 10th Amendment and States' rights.

US and China WAR May be Inevitable, As Economy Collapses And Democrats And GOP Fight, War Approaches (video)
[What A Finger] US and China WAR May be Inevitable, As Economy Collapses And Democrats And GOP Fight, War Approaches. The Thucydides Trap says that whenever a rising power moves to displace the existing superpower war is inevitable. 5 years ago The Atlantic wrote that not only was war with the US and China likely it was way more likely than anyone realized. They wrote that something could happen that will cause a cascade affect resulting in total war. And now many people are bullish on war. A series of military confrontations, China’s attempts to cause us harm during the crisis, the collapse of crude oil prices, and the economic collapse have put the world in the most dangerous position it has been in yet. Nuclear weapons stand at the ready and no one is willing to back down. As more people in the US, not just Trump but now Democrats and joe Biden, move to blame China it seems that it is only a matter of time when full scare war breaks out. Or maybe it won’t, maybe this is just hype and media sensationalism, maybe the real war will be an information war.

#4  I don't really see how economy collapsing equals war in the modern era. War for what? Markets, China already lost those. Raw Materials? China lost that as well. Taiwan is the only likely flashpoint and I just don't see it.

2020 is not 1914. The world is different and as a result the rationals for war are different.

Chinese are fools if they aren't buying up every barrel of oil they can right now while the prices are good. Beyond that it's just hot air for internal consumption.

#5  RJ, War is waged across many aspects of a nation. Diplomatic wars, informational wars, military, and economic wars. If a nation has an element of power, it can be used as an element of war.

China cannot go to war. There are reports of developing exigencies within the Han kingdom that indicate their resolve may not be enough to even deploy beyond the Indian Ocean.

Even if they do, they'll never rise again. Everything they achieved (whatever the hell it was) will be lost if they take on America. They Chinese are very careful about who they fight. Their best bet was to weaken the US from afar through their proxies, something increasingly looking like it won't be happening for another 4 years.

I think, the best strategy they have now is to try to develop a vaccine, stealing others' research left and right; and hope that the Covid thingy hurts others more than it hurts them. They've obviously made insane amounts of money over the PPEs. But that's the end of the good luck run.

#13  #3 Wasn't war with the Soviets also 'inevitable'?

No.

If you look at the last 230 years in Europe, the evidence is that a balanced bipolar system i.e. the US-USSR 1945-1990 balance of terror far more stable than either a multipolar and balanced international state system (1792-93, 1815-1902, 1919-38) OR a multipolar and unbalanced system (1793-1815, 1903-18, 1939-45).

It's insane to think that Chinese's rise to parity with US could possibly happen without war.

Ergo, China cannot be allowed to keep rising, let alone gain parity with us. We have to halt their rise and contain and construct them every way possible.
Posted by: Lex || 04/21/2020 16:20 Comments || Top||

#14  49 Pan, typically a war between great powers requires one of that nations to see some kind of gain out of the thing. I don't see that here. China stepped on a rake and war won't undo that.

Lex, WW2 didn't get us out of the Depression. I believe that was a myth created by the left to justify the massive spending and control that elongated the Depression by years and years and which had to end at some point anyway.

I will admit that everyone else having destroyed their industrial base helped us dominate the world in the aftermath though.

Smoke in TeePee: As Native peoples self-isolate, outsiders are still demanding in
[Aljazeera] Indigenous communities of the western hemisphere have been fighting for survival since Christopher Columbus washed up on our shores in 1492. You have likely heard the tale. We were subjected to genocide. One facet of our annihilation was contagion introduced by European invaders with poor hygiene.

When Columbus first arrived, there were about 250,000 Native peoples living in Hispaniola, where he landed. Along with Christianity, the transatlantic slave trade and seething avarice, Columbus brought with him infectious diseases like diphtheria, measles, cholera, typhus and smallpox.

Within 25 years, 95 percent of the Indigenous population there had been wiped out by these scourges, leaving just 14,000 who would be subjugated, tortured, trafficked and massacred by the self-proclaimed discoverer of the "New World" and his men. All told, it is estimated that about 55 million people Indigenous to the Americas eventually died due to the spread of these foreign diseases.

Some Natives, like myself, maintain that the genocide of Indigenous people continues to this day, manifesting in a variety of ways. Imposed poverty, environmental racism, police violence, the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, and the theft of our lands, resources and children are just a few examples of how the Indian wars never ended.

Disease still threatens our existence, too. In the United States, Natives are twice as likely as whites to develop Type 2 diabetes and our sustained oppression is the primary cause of it. When Natives were forced onto reservations we were no longer allowed to hunt, gather and consume the diet nor get the exercise that kept our ancestors fit and healthy. We were expected to live on rations high in sugar and starches that directly contribute to diabetes. Impoverished reservations are also commonly located in food deserts - meaning healthy options are still lacking.

But now we have a new plague. The novel coronavirus. Be it by reason or blood memory, Indigenous communities were immediately alarmed by it. Sure, we have been down this road before. Our populations were decimated by diseases we had no immunity to. It was not just that, though. We knew we were not prepared for it and we do not have the resources to properly combat it. Even though the federal government has a duty to provide Tribes with treaty-promised healthcare, their system is chronically underfunded and consistently fails us. COVID-19 attacks the lungs, and the Indian Health Service has only 81 ventilators for roughly three million Tribal members scattered throughout the country. With diabetics more vulnerable to complications from it, Native communities are especially susceptible. And with the elderly, those who keep our Native languages, more likely to die from it, the loss for Native people will be grave.

We were right to be concerned. COVID-19 is ravaging the Navajo Nation.

Nigel Farage: Only Trump Has Stood up to China, But Citizens of the West Must Stand up Next
[Breitbart] China’s dishonesty over coronavirus could lead to a global reassessment of how vital the authoritarian regime should be to the fate and prosperity of Western democracies, Brexit leader Nigel Farage has told Breitbart News.

Speaking to Breitbart News Network editor-in-chief Alex Marlow on the Breitbart News Daily Show on Sirius XM Patriot, "Mr Brexit" Nigel Farage — known for shepherding Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union from being a harshly opposed position to the proven view of the majority by the time of the 2016 Brexit referendum — turned his fire on China during a coronavirus discussion.

While Mr Farage praised the "very good, and very brave" U.S. President Trump for being the only global leader who dared to stand up to vested interests and Chinese power, the grassroots political leader made it clear it would take more than leadership from the corridors of power to reorientate the West away from Beijing, pointing out this ultimately was in the hands of consumer-citizens.

Meat shortages: The wages of 'cheap' illegal labor
[American Thinker] In 2004's preachy, much panned leftist mockumentary, A Day without a Mexican, the supposedly hypothetical scenario, about how California would fall apart if all its Mexicans, including illegals, somehow disappeared, was acted out. The film had a grand old time portraying white people as a bunch of soft, privileged fools, unable to clean even their own toilets.

This is annoying because it lumps most Americans into a stereotype of a typically feckless, over-monied limousine liberal, such as you might really find in Hollywood circles.

But it did raise the question of U.S. dependence on illegal foreign labor.

Seems we might just be experiencing that now with the big meat plant shutdowns, based on problems with much of the labor force being out with the coronavirus. The plants also are described in news reports as having an "immigrant" workforce. Based on the number of ICE chicken plant raids seen in recent news, it's very likely that these plants, too, may be dependent on illegal alien labor. With those workers now either out with COVID-19 or else in, and spreading it to others, the plants are going down. Worse still, industry consolidation means that these plants are now few in number, so nothing can pick up the slack. The shutdowns are expected to mean meat shortages at the groceries, curiously similar to Venezuela's.

IMO, not bloody likely as long as they can make a profit using dirt cheap illegals.

Germany's BILD Editor-In-Chief 'You are endangering the world'
[BILD] Dear President Xi Jinping

Your embassy in Berlin has addressed me in an open letter because we asked in our newspaper BILD whether China should pay for the massive economic damage the corona virus is inflicting worldwide.

Let me respond:

1. You rule by surveillance. You wouldn't be president without surveillance. You monitor everything, every citizen, but you refuse to monitor the diseased wet markets in your country.

You shut down every newspaper and website that is critical of your rule, but not the stalls where bat soup is sold. You are not only monitoring your people, you are endangering them — and with them, the rest of the world.

2. Surveillance is a denial of freedom. And a nation that is not free, is not creative. A nation that is not innovative, does not invent anything . This is why you have made your country the world champion in intellectual property theft.

China enriches itself with the inventions of others, instead of inventing on its own. The reason China does not innovate and invent is that you don't let the young people in your country think freely. China’s greatest export hit (that nobody wanted to have, but which has nevertheless gone around the world) is Corona.

3. You, your government and your scientists had to know long ago that Corona is highly infectious, but you left the world in the dark about it. Your top experts didn't respond when Western researchers asked to know what was going on in Wuhan.

You were too proud and too nationalistic to tell the truth, which you felt was a national disgrace.

4. The "Washington Post" reports that your laboratories in Wuhan have been researching corona viruses in bats, butwithout maintaining the highest safety standards. Why are your toxic laboratories not as secure as your prisons for political prisoners?

Would you like to explain this to the grieving widows, daughters, sons, husbands, parents of Corona victims all over the world?

5. In your country, your people are whispering about you. Your power is crumbling. You have created an inscrutable, non-transparent China. Before Corona, China was known as a surveillance state. Now, China is known as a surveillance state that infected the world with a deadly disease.

That is your political legacy.

Your embassy tells me that I am not living up to the "traditional friendship of our peoples." I suppose you consider it a great "friendship" when you now generously send masks around the world. This isn’t friendship, I would call it imperialism hidden behind a smile — a Trojan Horse.

You plan to strengthen China through a plague that you exported. You will not succeed. Corona will be your political end, sooner or later.

Yours sincerely

Julian Reichelt

Europe
The European Union is Dead but Does Not Yet Know It
[GatestoneInstitute] The truth is that there is no "Union".

The coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
now has put the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and its comfort zone face-to-face with all its weaknesses, decadence and cowardice.

Another merciless battle Italia fought with the EU was for protective face-masks. La Belle France adopted a policy of requisitioning them; Germany banned their export. Those unilateral decisions undermined a much-touted EU principle: the free movement of goods in the single market.

As L'Express exposed, La Belle France seized four million masks belonging to a Swedish company and that had been intended, in part, for Italia and Spain.

When Italia and Greece were overwhelmed by migrants colonists from the Middle East and Africa, the EU countries refused to take their "share" of migrants colonists. Lacking a policy to stop the flow of mass immigration, Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
decided to leave the southern countries to their fate. ....

In the face of Italia's pandemic catastrophe, the European Union showed only impotence and indifference. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen even "apologized" to Italia and acknowledged that the EU had failed to respond well to the Covid-19 pandemic.

When Italia called for solidarity from its European neighbors, they declined. Even the former President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, spoke of a "cowardly Europe". The pro-EU Italian newspaper, La Repubblica, called it bluntly, "Ugly Europe". It seems that 70% of Italians believe Germany is trying to "strangle" them....

"Do you not understand the emergency we are going through?", Spain's prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, asked German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslem colonists...
during one of the EU's latest summits....

In 2017, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, then the Dutch Minister of Finance and head of the "Eurogroup" (the EU's grouping of finance ministers), said that southern European countries such as Italia wasted their money on "drinks and women". This month, one of Germany's leading newspapers, Die Welt, wrote that the Italian mafia was waiting for Brussels' coronavirus money.

Berlin was not moved, even by the pictures of the Italian army transporting dozens of coffins out of a city because the local crematorium was overwhelmed by the deaths. Dozens of coffins awaiting burial were lined up in churches....

Another merciless battle Italia fought with the EU was for protective face-masks. La Belle France adopted a policy of requisitioning them; Germany banned their export. Those unilateral decisions undermined a much-touted EU principle: the free movement of goods in the single market. As L'Express exposed, La Belle France seized four million masks belonging to a Swedish company and that had been intended, in part, for Italia and Spain....

How to Get Rid of a POTUS
[StrategicCulture] In the Soviet Union there was an expression "The Organs of State Security" or "Organs" for short. Their supposed power in the USSR was one of the things that separated them from what we used to call "the free world". Not so much any more – the American Organs came very close to getting rid of the so-called Most Powerful Man in The World. They made only one mistake; they probably won't next time.

The impeachment of US President Donald Trump is over, or at least this iteration is. This was not a normal impeachment, it was an attempt by the Deep State, the Organs of State Security, the Blob, the Borg – later we will learn what its members call it – to remove a president of the United States. After some false starts, it succeeded at every step except the very last one. But, as they say, practice makes perfect and the Organs have learned from their mistake....

BREAKING: Trump Announces He'll Suspend Immigration Into the U.S.
That’s one way to finesse everyone demanding continued lockdown.
[PJ Media] We're in an era of firsts, a runaway virus from China comes to mind, but this announcement by President Trump is the very first time anyone has heard an American president make this pronouncement.

President Trump has announced that he's "temporarily suspending immigration into the United States."

The president made the announcement to stop bringing in new people because the U.S. and world economies are cratering. And a historic number of people are now without jobs because of the virus. Trump is going all-in with the American people on this announcement.

Well, this is one way that President Trump will get Nancy Pelosi back to Washington, D.C.

We'll bet that somehow the Left will label this as racist.

Let them try.

Michigan Governor: 'Revolting Against A Tyrannical Government Is Simply Un-American'
[Babylon Bee] On Meet the Press Sunday, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer reminded everyone that "revolutions and revolts are simply un-American."

Whitmer called on the protesters in her state to stop their illegal assembling, reminding them that protesting so-called tyranny is a foreign idea to the history of the United States.

"Protesting and revolting against your wise rulers goes against everything America was built on," she said. "It flies in the face of every American tradition. Revolting against tyranny has no place in this great country."

Governor Whitmer then rattled off a long list of things that she also believes to be un-American:

    Declaring independence from tyrants
Having a list of protected rights
    Separation of powers
    Democratically elected leaders
Freedom of religion, assembly, the press, protests, and speech.
    Federalism
    Apple pie
    Baseball
    America
"If you're really Americans, you'll stop with this dangerous revolutionary activity," she concluded.

They Can't Stop Us from Re-Opening America
It's Kurt
[Townhall] We're going to come out of this nightmare whether the Democratic politicians like it or not. The pandemic is subsiding, so America is done with this lockdown nonsense, and the inevitable re-opening is coming. It will start out slow, then get faster, then get very, very fast, and then get finished. That's how these things happen. But it won't happen without #resistance. The lib establishment and its media gerbils clearly think it's in their interest to have the Bat Gobbler flu crisis continue indefinitely. They think it hurts Trump, plus they really love wielding power over you. Just look into the dead doll eyes of Governor Karen (D-Minncounsinigan) and you can see that forcing big box stores to tape off the seed section gives her a kind of erotic pleasure. It's kind of creepy.

But people aren't having any more of this Schiff. We're done. We could deal with it when it looked like a commonsense thing to do, but now it's just getting stupid. Things are getting better and they are doubling down on the social distance Stasi act. You got police departments tweeting that protest isn't essential, but apparently being petty fascist
...anybody you disagree with, damn them...

#3  He's half right. There will have to be a reckoning with any politician in any executive role from either party who let the power go their head. I'm reasonably confident that will happen in time, at least in some places.

But unfortunately this doesn't look over yet. We shouldn't kid ourselves. The daily infection and death rate numbers may be flattened, but they haven't started going down. And the number of new cases and deaths *is* going up each day at consistent rate. Not exponentially, but consistently.

It doesn't look like hot weather affects the virus, or that it shows any sign of "burning out" on its own yet. Which leaves us all with some hard choices to consider, and no simple path forward.

#6  Kurt's right. You cannot have 32% unemployment (recent prediction by a top economist at the St Louis Federal Reserve Bank) and still have a functioning democracy.

Either we end our democracy - let's hope it isn't violent but anyone with any grasp of history and social psychology knows that's unlikely - or the elites end the lockdown. Take your pick.

More likely outcome is that the lockdowns will collapse rapidly, as they've already started to do across the southern red states.

Probably will be triggered when researchers dig deep into the data to show that the COVID deaths were inconsistently and improperly coded; that other urgent care needs were neglected (thereby causing still more deaths); and that targeted restrictions would have saved almost as many lives without pushing us into insane levels of unemployment and mass impoverishment.
