LBGTQ led demo at DC Mayor's House calls for defunding police
DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has ostentatiously, with the WaPo's help (its a WaPo article), tried to make all the riots and looting be Trump's fault. But, its not working.
Dozens of protesters descended Saturday evening on the Northwest D.C. home of Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D), demanding that she defund the police as they chanted and danced to music at what they called a block party.

The protesters, many of them with trans-led LGBTQ advocacy group No Justice No Pride, were met by a line of at least 22 masked police officers outside the mayor's home. But there were no altercations, even as dancers strutted and preened inches from officers' faces and flashed the middle finger at police at the end of performances.

Although Bowser garnered national acclaim for painting "Black Lives Matter" on 16th Street near the White House, she has a fraught relationship with local Black Lives Matter leaders

Afghanistan
Afghanistan detects new polio cases as coronavirus halts immunization programs
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Afghanistan has detected polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain...
in areas previously declared free of the life-threatening disease after immunization programs were paused due to the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic, officials said Sunday.

The polio virus has spread to three provinces that had not reported cases for up to five years, said Jan Rasekh, a front man for Afghanistan’s polio eradication program.

Balkh, Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
and Badakhshan have each declared a single case.

Although the number of new cases nationwide is lower so far this year - with 14 compared to 26 in 2019 - the location has sparked concern.

"We had worked hard for years and cornered polio to a limited geography," Rasekh said.

"The coronavirus has helped polio spread beyond its endemic region of south and southeast, and now threatens people across the country," he added.

The UN children’s agency UNICEF said last month that polio eradication drives had been suspended in dozens of countries, while measles vaccination campaigns were also put on hold in 27 nations.

There are only two nations remaining where the wild version of the polio virus continues to spread - Pakistain and Afghanistan - but a strain that has mutated from the vaccine itself has caused outbreaks in Africa.

I remember we tried to vaccinate the long before the UN or the red thingy people. We couldn't. The mothers would chase the doctors out of their streets.

171 Govt Forces Killed in a Week in Taliban Attacks: Officials
[ToloNews] New figures by security institutions reveal that 171 personnel of the Afghan National Security Forces bit the dust in festivities with the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
in a week, despite an unannounced ceasefire between the two sides that is part of the peace efforts by the Afghan government and its international partners.

250 others were maimed in the festivities, according to the numbers. The data also shows that 222 attacks were carried out by the Taliban during the last week in 29 provinces.

Afghan officials say that this could jeopardize the grinding of the peace processor, which has reached an important phase.

"The Taliban’s movements and attacks have killed and maimed 422 security force members," said Tariq Arian, front man for Ministry of Interior Affairs.

On June 13, the National Security Council’s front man said that 89 non-combatants were killed in "the Taliban attacks" in the last two weeks, something that the Taliban rejected.

In April, the National Security Council (NSC) provided details on Taliban attacks after the peace deal they signed with the US on February 29 in Doha. The numbers by the NSC shows that the Taliban conducted an average of 55 attacks per day from March 1 to April 19. The total military movements by the Taliban during this period was 2,804 attacks, according to the NSC.

#1  This is an annualized rate of ~9K. Uncle Sam withdrew from Vietnam after suffering ~8K KIA a year for 8 years. The US population at the time was 5x Afghanistan's. Of course, the Afghans fighting the Taliban have no place to go, except Pakistan or Iran, so their threshold may be somewhat higher. And the ARVN suffered deaths amounting to about ~8K a year for 30 years, despite a population around 1/3 Afghanistan's.

[ToloNews] Numbers released by the Afghan government indicate that "89 civilians" were killed in "Taliban

The Taliban has released a statement rejecting these claims.

RSF commander urges rebel leader to hand over killers of civilians in South Darfur camp
[Sudan Tribune] Lt. Gen. Abdel-Rahim Hamdan Daglo, second commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) called on Darfur holdout rebel leader to hand over the killers of two civilians recently murdered inside Kalama camp.

Kalma IDP Camp, near South Darfur capital Nyalan patrolled by Unamid on 11 August 2010 (UNAMID photo by Albert Gonzalez Farran)Two people were killed and one injured by button men inside Kalama camp on Wednesday 10 June evening after losing their way. Also, a third person with them in the vehicle was gravely maimed.

Following the attack, UNAMID deployed police and military troops around the camp fearing Dire Revenge attack by the Arab tribes and families of the victims.

Also, the state authorities took similar measures to prevent possible escalation of violence in the area.

On Sunday, a Sudanese government delegation led by the Cabinet Affairs Minister Omer Monis travelled to Nyala to meet the families of the victims and to call for calm.

Monis pledged to hold accountable the perpetrators of the "hideous criminal incident in Kalma camp stressing that they will not escape punishment.

South Darfur Governor Major General Hashim Khaled Mahmoud said he discussed the incident with UNAMID officials and asked them to fulfil their mandate and protect civilians or to leave the matter to the state government.

For his part, the RSF deputy general commander Daglo called on the camp residents to reject violence and to hand over the culprits to the legal authorities warning against attempts by the international intelligence and infiltrators in Darfur to ignite discord in the region.

He vowed that, under the revolution government, any criminal or mercenary in the camps or any location would be arrested and held accountable through justice. He further promised to protect the Kalma and solve the case with wisdom and reason.

Egypt seeks to acquire Russian weapon that will block Turkey in southern Mediterranean
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Egyptian military is seeking to acquire the Russian super-defense system, dubbed the "Bastion", where news confirmed that Egypt wants to secure its coasts and gas fields in the Mediterranean.

A military source confirmed to RT Arabic that the armament contracts between Egypt and Russia in 2015 included the Bastion system, which has a maximum range of 300 km.

The source noted that Egypt’s acquisition of these systems is a logical matter that fits into the framework of a comprehensive development plan for the Egyptian Navy that will include access to modern defense systems along the coast of the country.

The source continued: "The Bastion system is considered one of the most important and effective deterrent systems in the world, especially in light of the huge need to secure new naval bases and Egyptian economic areas in the eastern Mediterranean in front of two adversaries, such as the Israeli navy and the Ottoman Turkish navy."

He added that a single system can protect 600 km of coast and secure a sea area of 100,000 square kilometers.

This is important for the Egyptian Navy given the recent Ottoman Turkish expansion into the southern region of the Mediterranean.

The conflict with Egypt, Cyprus and Greece on one side and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
on the other is beginning to heat up, as Ankara plans to move forward with their oil exploration contingency.

WHO sending 85 tonnes of medical aid to northeast Syria: officials
[Rudaw] The World Health Organization (WHO) said late Thursday that a three-batch, 85-tonne medical aid shipment is on its way to northeast Syria, an area known to Kurds as Rojava. Both a WHO and Rojava administration official told Rudaw English the aid is set to arrive in the coming days.

The last, 31-tonne batch of aid consisting of "emergency medical supplies" arrived in Damascus on Friday evening, WHO's office in Syria announced via Twitter.

On Thursday, two other WHO batches arrived in quick succession in Damascus via Erbil International Airport. The second batch "will reach the north-east Syria secondary level health facilities," the organization tweeted.

The 85-tonne delivery includes aid for "trauma patients, cholera and treatment of other health conditions," WHO representative to Syria Akjemal Magtyamova told Rudaw English on Friday, and will be sent "mainly to hospitals."

It is hoped the aid will arrive in northeast Syria "by next week," to be distributed both to facilities controlled by the Rojava authorities and by the Syrian regime, Magtyamova said.

The three-batch delivery eclipses the 55 tonnes of medical aid provided to the region over the whole of 2020, Rojava health board co-chair Jwan Mustafa told Rudaw English on Friday. WHO sent 20 tonnes of medical aid in mid-April and 35 other tonnes less than a month ago, he said.

"The new aid is expected to arrive in the coming days," Mustafa told Rudaw English.

Rojava used to receive international aid through al-Yarubiya border crossing with Iraq, but was left out of a January 2020 UN Security Council vote to allow the passage of humanitarian provisions into Syria due to Russian opposition.

Coupled with a dramatic drop in the value of Syrian pound, the closure of the border crossing has made purchasing medicine inaccessibly costly for northeast Syria's residents, particularly the chronically ill.
