For millions living in camps for the displaced or sitting outside government ministries seeking help, the only source of warmth is to huddle around open wood-burning fires.
Nearly 80% of Afghanistan's previous government's budget came from the international community. That money, now cut off, financed hospitals, schools, factories and government ministries. In the Taliban's Afghanistan there is no money. Sanctions have crippled banks while the U.N., the United States and others struggle to figure out how to get hundreds of millions of dollars of humanitarian aid to Afghans while bypassing the Taliban, even as there are no immediate signs of the widespread corruption that characterized the previous administration.
For many of Afghanistan's poorest, bread is their only staple. Women line up outside bakeries in the city, young children arrive before dawn to get bread. The majority scramble to find food, and fuel. The statistics provided by the U.N. are grim: Almost 24 million people in Afghanistan, around 60% percent of the population, suffer from acute hunger. As many as 8.7 million Afghans are coping with famine.
School for girls under the Taliban is erratic, and in many provinces they are not allowed to attend school after grade 6, but in more than 10 provinces schools are open. The international community is working on ways to help the schools that are open while encouraging the Taliban to open the rest.
In some areas, such as the western Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... province, teachers and parents together cajole local Taliban leaders to open schools. In schools like Tajrobawai Girls High School in Herat, it is paying off.
Months ago, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees warned of a mass exodus of Afghans should Afghanistan be allowed to free fall into an economic abyss.
The exodus has already begun as thousands stream out of Afghanistan for Iran ...They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... in desperation. Sometimes trying to jumpstart a culture from the 7th century to the 22nd without developing all the intermediate steps does more barm than good, especially if you just leave suddenly and stop all the financial life support. [Garowe] At least four soldiers, including a district security chief, were killed and three others maimed in a kaboom in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu late on Saturday night.
A vehicle carrying security personnel was targeted with a remote-controlled improvised bomb in Mogadishu’s Daynile district, a police officer told Anadolu Agency.
The blast took place in front of the district’s main cop shoppe and the dead include Abdisamad Ugas Fara'ade, the top security official in Daynile.
The attack was claimed by the al-Shabaab ...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa... terrorist group.
It was the second kaboom in the Horn of the African country in less than 24 hours.
Earlier on Saturday afternoon, al-Shabaab claimed to have killed a security bigshot in a bombing in the port city of Kismayo ...a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia, at the extreme southern end of the country (always assuming Somalia can be called a country). It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region.... in Jubaland State.
That came on the heels of an al-Shabaab attack in Jubaland’s Taabto town in which three officials, including the town’s mayor and head of its town’s taxation department, were shot full of holes.
On Friday, the Embassy said that it will continue to recognize the Government of National Unity (GNU) as the authority tasked with leading Libya to elections and that it does not endorse the establishment of parallel governments or institutions.
These remarks came after the High National Election Commission (HNEC) announced that despite being technically prepared, it was unable to meet the 24th of December date set by the political roadmap for national elections.
In a statement, the Municipal Council affirmed its categorical rejection of any foreign interference into the country’s internal affairs, urging all Libyan relevant authorities to expel the British Ambassador from Libya.
The Municipal Council stressed the necessity of holding presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, in order to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people and respect their will.

Notably, the Embassies of La Belle France, Germany, Italia, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United States (US) issued a joint statement yesterday in which they said the transfer of power from the current interim executive authority to the new executive authority should take place following the announcement of the results.
The western countries warned that they will hold to account those who threaten the stability or undermine the political and electoral process in Libya, through violence, or the incitement of violence.

A community leader in Garaha, Honorable Hyella, told SaharaReporters that people fled Kwapre to escaped being trapped and kidnapped by bandidos and the Boko Haram ...the name means Western education is forbidden, They're what you get as the result of a traditional African or Islamic education... .
He said, "There are only seven persons left in Kwapre now; the rest have relocated to either Hong or Pella.
"People have justifiable reasons to run for their lives, because 52 persons were kidnapped in April this year and only eight persons have returned home since then. Now that there's a buildup of heavy presence of suspected bandidos in the area again; the people have to run for their lives.
"People have to run because kidnappings happen on a daily basis. The bandidos have begun to tax villagers; so far they've taxed Dabna, Sushiu, Lar, and many villages within the Duguba district to pay safety levies."
SaharaReporters had on May 12, 2021 reported that Boko Haram Lions of Islam demanded a ransom of N28million to free some persons kidnapped in Adamawa State.
The captives, numbering 52 including women and kiddies, were kidnapped last month in Kwapre village, in the Hong Local Government Area.
Another source, who did not want his name in print, said, "The people in Dabna have moved to Gombi, a nearby town and Hong. Few families are still there, may be about ten households or so," he added.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the scare, saying, "Yes, there's kidnap scare around those villages. Of course it's normal for the people to be scared. But the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, has directed the deployment of troops to safeguard the areas."
The bandits invaded their communities, killed men and destroyed properties.
No fewer than 30 women have been reportedly kidnapped by bandidos in Zamfara following attacks on 15 villages within the neighbourhood of Gusau, the state capital.
In a report by BBC Hausa, some locals in Geba and Gidan Kaura villages, and others in communities within the Gusau Local Government Area, said the bandidos invaded their communities, killed men and destroyed properties.
A source said, "The bandidos kidnapped women and girls, took them away."
One of the locals told the media: "The bandidos kidnapped 10 women in Kura, at Bayauri they kidnapped 9. They also entered a village called Gana and kidnapped 7 before proceeding to Duma and kidnapped another 7. These happened before Sunday morning."
According to the report, many villages have been deserted, as the villagers have now embarked on an exodus to the state capital, Gusau.
The development follows an announcement that security agents arrested some bandidos that were earlier dislodged in their hideouts after they went to a medical facility for treatment.
For some years, Zamfara is among the states in the North battling with banditry, a phenomenon that has attained a disturbing dimension in the states of Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna and their neighbours.
Last week, the bandidos burnt over 20 passengers in a motor vehicle in Sokoto, a development that caused a series of condemnation and elicited anger among some Nigerians, who were alleging that the government was allowing the bandidos to have a field day, unchallenged.

[GREATERKASHMIR] A video has surfaced on social media in which a fully masked man, identifying himself as an Indian Sikh, is seen declaring to "assassinate" Queen Elizabeth II to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, prompting Scotland yard to launch a probe, days after an intruder was arrested at the monarch's Windsor Castle.
The video, shared on Snapshot, is that of a fully masked man who identifies himself as Indian Sikh Jaswant Singh Chail and declares that he wants to "assassinate" the monarch in Dire Revenge for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, according to The Sun newspaper which obtained the video.
Meanwhile, ...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had been cornered by the banditti... the 19-year-old intruder, who has not yet been named by the Metropolitan Police, is now being held over mental health issues.
Scotland Yard officers were investigating the video reportedly linked to the intruder armed with a crossbow arrested at Windsor Castle on Christmas Day.

Police are also carrying out searches at a housing estate in Southampton, where the suspect reportedly lived with his family.
A 19-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of breach or trespass of a protected site and possession of an offensive weapon, Met Police said in a statement.
Following a search of the man, a crossbow was recovered. The man was taken into custody and has undergone a mental health assessment he has since been sectioned under the Mental Health Act and remains in the care of medical professionals.
Enquiries into the full circumstances of this incident are being progressed by Metropolitan Police Specialist Operations, the statement added.

The Babbar Khalsa terrorist who is currently in Pakistain has been identified as Harvinder Singh Sandhu, while the Khalistan supporter based in Germany is Jaswinder SIngh Multan ...Home of the Multan Sultans... i.
Both had coordinated with each other and planned the attack. The attack was first of the many other acts of terror they had planned to destabilise Punjab, an Intelligence Bureau official told OneIndia.
Sandhu according to the IB official is also wanted in scores of cases that include cross border smuggling. Sandhu is wanted in 30 different cases that include murder, smuggling of arms and ammunition, drug peddling etc.
Siddharth Chattopadhyay, the state police chief said that the accused Gagandeep probably met with some people including Khalistani elements and drug smugglers while he was in jail. He had very good technical skills and the initial inquiry reveals that he had gone inside the washroom to assemble the bomb. We also have strong leads that the narco-hard boyz and pro-Khalistani elements are behind this attack, he also said.
The suspect was identified as a Gagandeep Singh alias Gaggi. He was dismissed from service in 2019 for his alleged involvement in drug peddling. He was posted as the head constable at a cop shoppe in Khanna at the time of him being dismissed. The drug peddling case was investigated by the Ludhiana unit of the Special Task Force.
The former cop had spent 25 months in jail before getting bail on September 8. The hearing in the case was scheduled to be held on Friday, but the matter was adjourned to February 2022.
The Sherlocks would now look into whether Gaggi was tasked by the ISI's Khalistan network in Germany to carry out this attack. Moreover Gaggi could have been roped in easily as he had a personal interest as his hearing in the drug case was coming on Friday. He also had a personal interest in carrying out the blast as he may have been looking to destroy documents relating to his case.
A report in the Hindustan Times says that the ISI had tasked Jaswinder Multani , a Germany based pro-Khalistan terrorist to carry out this blast. Multani has a strong network within India has been in the business of supplying arms and ammunition through his contacts in the ISI.

[Rudaw] Two rockets were fired at a Ottoman Turkish military base in Nineveh province on Monday night, a local official told Rudaw, adding that no casualties or material damage has been reported.
The rockets landed between Jubran village and the Ottoman Turkish military base in Zelkan sub-district, its mayor, Mohammed Amin Gharib, told Rudaw, adding that the distance between both places is five kilometers.
The mayor noted that no casualties or material damage were reported, and that the direction from which the rockets were fired is unknown.
The Ottoman Turkish military base, located in Nineveh Plain’s Bashik town, has been targeted multiple times this year.
It was targeted earlier in April when four rockets were fired, killing one Ottoman Turkish soldier and injuring two civilians, including a 12-year-old girl, in the attack.
Multiple rockets were again fired at the base in November but no casualties were reported.

The Federal Supreme Court ...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations... said on Monday that it had rejected an appeal by Hadi Amiri, leader of Fatih Alliance, against the final results of the elections which were announced late November.
Hours later, the top court said that it had ratified the final results of the election.
According to the final results, the Sadrist bloc gained 73 seats out of the legislature's total 329 seats, becoming the top winner of the elections. Fatih Alliance, the largest list representing the Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, or Hashd al-Shaabi), won 17 seats. Taqadum, a Sunni alliance headed by the outgoing speaker of Iraqi parliament Mohammed al-Halbousi, gained 37 seats.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), which had gained 33 seats in the initial results, lost two seats to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). This increased PUK’s seats from 15 to 17 but a Kurdish winning candidate, who won a seat in Kirkuk, ... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time... has announced she is affiliated to the party as well. The New Generation movement won nine seats.

Amiri’s office said in a statement on its Telegram channel on Monday that he is "committed" to the supreme court’s decision "out of our keenness to abide by the Constitution and law as well as our fear for the security and political stability of Iraq."
It added that they still have a "deep belief that the electoral process was marred with a lot of fraud."

Iraq's supreme court on Monday rejected a motion filed by the Hashed al-Shaabi ex-paramilitary alliance contesting its defeat in the October 10 parliamentary election.
"The Federal Court has decided to reject the complaint... and to make the plaintiffs bear the costs," Judge Jassem Mohamed Aboud said, reading out the verdict.
The court "rejects the request of the plaintiffs... not to ratify the final results of the election," he said. "The verdict is binding on all authorities".
While the ruling is a key step forward, it does not mean that the final results have been ratified, an electoral commission lawyer who attended the court hearing said.
That requires an official announcement to endorse the results, only after which can the new parliament be inaugurated and a new government formed.

[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] Basra Operations Command announced on Monday the launch of large-scale security operations in the northern regions of the province.The Command said in a statement received by al-Ghadeer news, that "large operations were launched in the areas north of Basra and the city center, in addition to the revival of Abu al-Khasib."
Adding, "The operations resulted in the arrest of a number of wanted persons according to various criminal matters, and the confiscation of light and medium weapons, various ammunition, and non-original wheels without traffic plates."
"Good results have been achieved, and we are striving to achieve the best by maintaining the momentum in supporting inspections to limit arms to the state," the Command said.

Syrian state media said Israeli warplanes fired missiles on the port of the coastal city of Latakia early Tuesday causing large explosions and fires, the second alleged strike in a month on the key facility.
SANA, Syria’s state media, quoted an unnamed military official as saying that several missiles struck the container area in the port, setting some of them on fire. He said the strikes caused "massive material damage."
The strikes came from the direction of the Mediterranean, he said. So it could've been anybody, right?
The official said efforts were still underway to put out fires and assess the damage. There were no immediate reports of casualties from the attack, which activated Syrian air defenses, according to SANA.

Syria’s state-run al-Ikhbariyah TV ran footage showing flames and smoke rising from the terminal. It reported damage to residential buildings, a hospital, shops and some tourist sites near the port.
An al-Ikhbariyah TV news hound in the area said Tuesday’s attack appeared to have been larger than the strike earlier this month and the earth-shattering kabooms could be heard in Tartus, another coastal city more than 80 kilometers (nearly 50 miles) away.
