Somalia's capital hit by major terror attack amid busy electoral schedule
[Garowe] al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

holy warriors on Wednesday night waged numerous attacks within the capital Mogadishu, just as the country rushes to beat crucial elections timeline amid pressure from members of the international community.

Initial reports indicate that the murderous Moslems, who have since taken responsibility, targeted the south and northern suburbs of Mogadishu. The first explosion occurred in Kahda as holy warriors attacked a cop shoppe while the second explosion was reported in the DaruSalaam area in Yaqshid.

Police in the capital initially confirmed two simultaneous al-Shabaab attacks in Kahda and in the DaruSalaam neighborhood of Yaqshid district. Residents in Kahda confirmed that fierce gunfire was exchanged following the earth-shattering kaboom in Kahda, reports indicate.

Casualties were reported following the al-Shabaab attack on Kahda cop shoppe as holy warriors were reportedly forced to retreat as one police vehicle damaged. The second explosion is said to have targeted a local district official in Mogadishu whose name was not immediately revealed.

In their proxy media sites, al-Shabaab grabbed credit for carrying out six attacks in Mogadishu last night. The group said two suicide boom-mobiles were involved in two attacks at Kahda cop shoppe and Dar al-Salaam where massive damages were reported.

In addition to the two suicide boom-mobiles followed by infantry attacks, al-Shabaab reported a third attack in another part of Kahda; and three more attacks in Daynile, Elasha Biyaha and Hodan aimed at disrupting reinforcements, group claims. Somali government said attacks were repulsed.

Some reports indicate that the group has briefly seized control of Kahda district cop shoppe. Meanwhile,
...back at the precinct house, Sergeant Maloney wasn't buying it. It was just too pat. The whole thing smelled phony, kind of like a dead mackeral but without the scales...
Haramacad's military base at the outskirts of the city came under heavy attack, further showcasing the porous situation in the capital.

Until now, the exact number of casualties is yet to be released but al-Shabaab claimed several people were killed in the process. The attack comes at the time the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
and Somali government have agreed on the transition of AMISOM to ATMIS from March this year.

The group is seeking to overthrow the fragile UN-backed Somalia government which has been facing hostility for several years now. The group controls large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia according to the UN Panel of Experts.

First numbers, as of 10:20 a.m. ET:
Somalia says al-Shabab attack kills 5 outside capital

[AlAhram] An attack by the al-Shabab extremist group on Wednesday killed five people and wounded 16 on the outskirts of Somalia's capital, police said.

Somalia's government said the early morning attack targeted police and checkpoints outside of Mogadishu.

Military Airstrikes Kill Bandit Leader, Umaru, 41, Others

Airstrikes from a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft have neutralised Dogo Umaru, a key terrorist-kingpin, loyal to the notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji in Katsina State.

The bombardments also killed no fewer than 40 other bandits, PRNigeria reports.

It was gathered that the airstrikes were authorised by the military command after Dogo Umaru and his cohorts were confirmed to have orchestrated a series of 'gruesome' attacks on Magama Village in the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

One of their recent attacks led to the death of the Magama Divisional Police Officer (DPO), while a soldier was wounded.

Dogo Umaru and his foot soldiers have been known to stage their attacks on surrounding villages from a nearby school, Tsamben Dantambara Primary School, which has since been deserted.

However, PRNigeria learnt from a military covert operative that two aircraft were deployed to 'massacre' the Katsina terrorists.

"One of the aircraft engaged the terrorists in successive passes, while the second one equally mopped up fleeing terrorists," he said.

Local sources residing near Tsamben Babare village revealed that 42 terrorists were eliminated in the NAF airstrikes, including Dogo Umaru.

An intelligence officer of the Nigerian Army said the military troops and men of other security agencies have intensified their operation in various theatres in the Northwest, recently.

"Last week, strikes by a NAF aircraft and combat operations of the ground troops in Kaduna and Niger states eliminated scores of terrorists near the Nigerian Defence Academy and along Shadadi-Maundu respectively," the source said.

Arab Coalition conducts 17 targeted strikes against Houthis in Marib, Hajjah

The Arab Coalition conducted 17 targeted strikes against the Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen’s Hajjah and Marib in the last 24 hours, the official Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.

The targeted strikes resulted in the destruction of 14 military vehicles, according to SPA, and caused casualties among the Houthis.

The operation comes during a time when tensions are rising with Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis.

Last week, the Arab Coalition asked residents of Sanaa to evacuate some “civilian sites” in the next 72 hours and warned of strikes on the Houthi militia in the area.

The warning came after the Houthis conducted a drone strike against Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport, injuring 12 people.

Abha, near Saudi Arabia’s southern border with Yemen, is a regular target of drone and missile strikes launched by the Iran-backed Houthi militia fighting coalition forces in Yemen.

Numerous countries and country representatives including the US Department of State, the UAE, Jordan, Egypt, and others, condemned the airport attack.

It came days after the Iran-backed Houthis attempted to hit the UAE with drone strikes, but failed owing to the country’s robust air defense.

Hamas terrorist dies in Gaza tunnel collapse, latest in series of incidents
[IsraelTimes] Terror group’s military wing says fighter ’martyred in resistance tunnel’; IDF preparing for possible escalation in Jerusalem and West Bank

A Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, terrorist was killed Wednesday when an offensive tunnel collapsed on him, the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
-based group said. Hamas named the terrorist as Muhammad Ashraf Abed, 24, from the city of Rafah in southern Gaza.

The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the terror group’s military wing, said he was "martyred after the collapse of a resistance tunnel."

Several Hamas bully boyz have reportedly died in recent months while working inside the tunnels, primarily built in sand, due to heavy rains that have led to their collapse.

During the 11-day conflict between Israel and terror groups in Gaza last May, the Israel Defense Forces carried out extensive Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s against an underground tunnel system which the army described as a system of Hamas bunkers, tunnels, underground command centers and weapons caches under the Gaza Strip.

The IDF has claimed that it managed to destroy a significant portion of the network during the campaign, a claim that Hamas has rejected.

In November, Maj. Avichai Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic front man, warned residents of Gaza of the issue, imploring them to stay away from the tunnels due to landslides in the area, which he said were the likely result of the destruction of the underground system.

"According to estimates, the cause of these collapses is linked to the underground system of Hamas," he wrote in Arabic.

"These events are the latest example, but not the only one, of Hamas’s absurd use of civilian areas. It is unpredictable when the earth will shake again under the feet of the Gazooks because of this blatant exploitation that the local population pays for time and again," he stated.

In December, the Defense Ministry announced that a 65-kilometer underground barrier constructed to deal with the threat of cross-border tunnels originating in Gaza had been completed.

The tunnel collapse came as Hamas has sought to stoke rising tensions in Jerusalem.

Clashes between Jews and Paleostinians in the flashpoint East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in recent days have sparked fears of more widespread violence. Attempted evictions in the neighborhood contributed to the outbreak of last year’s conflict between Israel and Hamas, as well as tensions surrounding Jerusalem’s Temple Mount.

This April will also again see a confluence of the Jewish holiday of Passover, the Moslem holy month of Ramadan and the Christian holiday of Easter, leading to fears of possible conflict. The Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft
...the gang of subgeniuses trying to pass themselves off as the adults in charge of the series of calamities characteristic of the administration of a mentally challenged geriatric case...
has urged Israel to take preemptive actions and prevent similar violence.

The Kan public broadcaster reported Tuesday that the IDF is preparing for a possible escalation in Jerusalem and the West Bank due to upcoming holidays and Sheikh Jarrah.

Syria Two Syrian soldiers killed , nine wounded, says Russian Reconciliation Center

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Two Syrian soldiers were killed, nine other and a civilian were wounded in shelling conducted by militants of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) against the government posts in several Syrian governorates, Oleg Zhuravlev, deputy chief of the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria, announced yesterday.

Militants of the Syrian opposition factions targeted posts of the Syrian government in the countryside of Aleppo governorate, north Syria, killing one Syrian soldier and wounding four others and a civilian as well, Zhuravlev added.

Meanwhile, one government soldier was killed and five were wounded in mortar bombardment targeting the government sites in the countryside of Idlib governorate, northwest Syria, according to him.

Nine assaults launched by the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS-formerly al-Nusra Front) were reported five of which were in Idlib and four in Aleppo, Zhuravlev explained.

On Tuesday, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu inspected the Russian airbase at Syria’s Khmeimim.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

HTS executes elderly in Idlib

Yesterday, a member of HTS security apparatus informed the family of Abbous the news of his execution, as a court affiliated with HTS in the city of Ariha confirmed the news, without explaining the reason for the execution, the sources added.

HTS refuses to hand over the body of the elderly, who was arrested in May in his house without revealing the reason for arrest, to his family, according to the sources.

Abbous was a former employee of the Zayzoon Thermal Power Station west of Hama, who defected from the Syrian government at the beginning of the protests in 2011, the sources said.

Human rights reports and organizations have previously talked about HTS’s practices and violations committed in its prisons, including torture, killing, settling scores, and burial in mass graves and places that so far have not been disclosed.

SDF kills ISIS leader and arrests another in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – An ISIS leader was killed and another was arrested, in two separate operations in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Wednesday.

The SDF said on its Facebook that the Special Forces of SDF killed a “dangerous terrorist” called Abu Hamza Shamiya in a security operation in the village of Jazra al-Milaj, 60 km east of Deir ez-Zor, and arrested Shukri Khalil, the ammunition distributor for ISIS, in the village of Zaghir in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

“Al-Shamiya had planned and carried out a terrorist attack targeting a point of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council’s forces in the village of al-Zar in eastern Deir ez-Zor on February 10, in which five SDF fighters lost their lives,” SDF said.

“Al-Shamiya was one of the most dangerous terrorists of ISIS in the Deir ez-Zor region, and was responsible for preparing terrorist plans and operations in the region, which targeted our fighters, dignitaries and tribal sheikhs in the region during the last period,” according to SDF.

According to SDF, they seized large quantities of ammunition and narcotics that Khalil had when he was arrested.

The countryside of Deir ez-Zor has been witnessing an increase in cases of killing of SDF members, the employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal notables and civilians, most of which have been claimed by ISIS.

Meanwhile, SDF has intensified its security operations in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor to pursue ISIS sleeper cells.

Two weeks ago, the SDF-affiliated Hajin Military Council announced the arrest of five members of ISIS sleeper cells in the town of Thiban in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

Israel strikes Syrian targets with anti-aircraft missiles
[JPost] Israel attacked Syrian targets in the village of Zakia, southern Damascus, with anti-aircraft missiles fired from the Golan Heights, SANA reports.

A military source told SANA that "at around 11:35 on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, the Israeli enemy carried out an airstrike with anto-aircraft missiles fired from the occupied of the Syrian Golan region."

"The aggression targeted some points in the vicinity of the town of Zakiyah, south of Damascus, and the (Syrian) air defenses shot down some of these missiles," the source added.

The attack was reportedly aimed at Iranian militias located southwest of the capital Damascus. There was property damage at the scene.
The Times of Israel adds:
Israel’s alleged use of surface-to-surface missiles — in place of munitions fired from aircraft — has been linked to a recent meeting between Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...

#1  Israel attacked Syrian targets ... with anti-aircraft missiles

Blowing up ground targets with air-to-air missiles, now they are just showing off.

The bit about using surface-to-surface missiles as a favor to Vladimir is notable. As the Donald says, it's all negotiable.
