'Not Normal': Biden Turns White House Into Housing Option for Extended Family
[FreeBeacon] No president in decades has had as many adult relatives taking up residence in the White House than President Joe Biden, who has reportedly turned the official residence into a free housing option for his extended family.

In addition to his son Hunter Biden, who is rumored to be living at the residence to avoid getting served with legal papers in his messy child custody battle, the president’s granddaughter Naomi and her then-fiance Peter Neal also lived at the White House for "a few months" last fall, the couple told Vogue last year. The New York Times noted in passing in a report about their lavish White House wedding that "Ms. Biden and Mr. Neal live at the White House, according to two people familiar with their situation."

Presidential historian Tevi Troy told the Washington Free Beacon that Biden having adult children and other relatives living at the White House is "not normal," but also "not unheard of" in the modern era.

He noted that former president Barack Obama's mother-in-law stayed at the residence "in large part to help with childcare," while former president Harry Truman "had his mother-in-law live in the White House, mostly for nagging." He said former president Gerald Ford's kids, who were in their 20s when their father left office, "were around the White House a lot" as well.

But Biden's relatives appear to be living at the White House for convenience. Naomi Biden, Hunter Biden's oldest child, told Vogue last year that she and her fiance moved into the White House because their apartment lease ran out, and the magazine described their descent from "their living quarters on the third floor of the White House residence to practice their first dance."

With 16 bedrooms, 35 bathrooms, a full-time chef and a team of staff, the White House is far more extravagant than even the $12,000-per-month Hollywood Hills home that Hunter Biden lived in three years ago while refusing to pay child support.

Naomi Biden and her husband lived in a suite on the third floor of the residence, the same level where former president Zachary Taylor reportedly housed slaves. The floor has been modernized and now features a gym, a billiards room, a solarium, and a room where Hillary Clinton housed her Eleanor Roosevelt memorabilia.

"I try to remind myself it’s the White House, but it also gets normalized over time," Naomi Biden said. She and her husband were also married on the White House's South Lawn, the first time a president's grandchild has used the Executive Mansion as a wedding venue.

These living arrangements could pose a security risk because the extended family members have easy access to the West Wing and White House offices where sensitive business is conducted, according to former White House ethics counsel Richard Painter.

"The problem is that people who stay in the residence with the president have access to the entire building," Painter told the Free Beacon. "There’s nobody sitting at a guard desk keeping you from going from the residence to the West Wing."

Economy
US economy grew at weak 1.1% rate in Q1 in sign of slowdown
More on this story from yesterday.
[An Nahar] The U.S. economy slowed sharply from January through March, decelerating to just a 1,1% annual pace as higher interest rates hammered the housing market and businesses reduced inventories.

Thursday's estimate from the Commerce Department showed that the nation's gross domestic product — the broadest gauge of economic output — weakened after growing 3.2% from July through September and 2.6% from October through November.

The slowdown reflects the impact of the Federal Reserve's aggressive drive to tame inflation, with nine interest rate hikes over the past year. The surge in borrowing costs is expected to send the economy into a recession sometime this year. Though inflation has steadily eased from the four-decade high it reached last year, it remains far above the Fed's 2% target.

The housing market, which is especially vulnerable to higher loan rates, has been battered. Consumer spending, which fuels roughly 70% of the entire economy, has softened. And many banks have tightened their lending standards since the failure last month of two major U.S. banks, making it even harder to borrow to buy a house or a car or to expand a business.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. AP's earlier story follows below.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Despite surging interest rates, punishing inflation and global turbulence, the U.S. economy stood firm last year. From employers to consumers, the picture was one of surprising resilience.

This year may be shaping up as a more downbeat story. The economy is widely expected to decelerate steadily and to slip into a recession sometime this year.

Some early such signs could begin to emerge Thursday, when the Commerce Department will issue its first estimate of the economy's performance in the first three months of 2023.

Forecasters have predicted that the gross domestic product — the broadest measure of economic output — grew at a 1.9% annual rate from January through March, according to a survey by the data firm FactSet. That would mark a significant slowdown from the 3.2% growth rate from July through September and the 2.6% rate from October through December.

Government Corruption
Another Late Addition to the J6 Hunt - Pink Beret
[Epoch Times] The FBI has added the mysterious woman known on social media as "Pink Beret" to its Jan. 6 most-wanted list, two months after a defense attorney suggested the woman could be a government cooperator who lured a defendant into the Capitol.

The FBI’s photo gallery of most-wanted individuals now lists Pink Beret as No. 537. The Bureau posted five photographs of the woman from Jan. 6, 2021, on its website and on social media.

Although the woman and her actions on Jan. 6 have been widely discussed on social media, she was not added to the FBI wanted page until April 27, some 27 months after the Capitol incursion.

On Feb. 27, defense attorney Kira Anne West filed a motion with U.S. District Judge John Bates in Washington saying that she needs to identify the Pink Beret woman to fully defend her client, Darrell Neely.

Biden can't recall recent Ireland visit, seems to forget Hunter's love child during Q&A with kids
[NYPOST] No wonder President Biden needs a cheat sheet while taking questions from adults.

The 80-year-old commander-in-chief had difficulty remembering his recent state visit to Ireland Thursday while being grilled by kids during a Take Your Child to Work event at the White House.

"The last country I’ve traveled, I’m trying to think of the last one I was in," Biden mused to the children of administration staffers and members of the media.

"I’ve been to, met with 89 heads of state so far. So, uh, trying to think where was the last place I was; it’s hard to keep track."

"Ireland," a child shouted out, jogging the president’s memory.

"Yeah, you’re right, Ireland. That’s where it was," he said good-naturedly.

"How’d you know that?"

Biden, with the help of first son Hunter, also took questions from children of US Embassy workers while in Ireland — but hosted no formal news conferences, frustrating members of the White House press corps.

The Ireland exchange was one of a handful Thursday that highlighted the president’s frequent memory lapses, most notably forgetting the death of Congresswoman Jackie Walorski and calling out the Indiana Republican’s name at an event last September.

Eric Adams wants FEMA to ban cities from busing migrants to NYC — as 1,300 arrive this week alone
[NYPOST] Mayor Eric Adams wants the Federal Emergency Management Agency to stop other states from shipping migrants colonists to New York City — as the number of asylum seekers arriving in the Big Apple surged to 1,300 over a three-day stretch this week, sources told The Post Thursday.
Sanctuary City™, Bitch!
A "frustrated" Adams made the plea during an internal budget briefing Wednesday, complaining that FEMA should crack down on cities using federal grant money to move migrants colonists to New York so the Big Apple doesn’t become more burdened by the cost of aiding them, sources with knowledge of the meeting said.

"There was an issue about the FEMA money that other places are getting that they can use that money to rent buses. Why are we giving money to send people to different cities?" a source said of Hizzoner’s plea.

Adams’ complaints came after a three-day stretch from Sunday, April 23 to Wednesday, April 26 in which 1,300 migrants colonists came to New York City. That was part of a surge of 2,300 that came in the week since April 19.

In that same time, eight new emergency shelters opened up to cater to the growing influx, according to the data, though it wasn’t immediately clear where in the city they are located.

Adams, who last week blasted the White House for turning its back on NYC, has repeatedly begged the federal government for help — warning that the financial burden of sheltering asylum seekers is threatening the city.
