NYC principal under fire for email imploring staff to support Palestinians
[NYPOST] A Brooklyn middle school principal this week urged teachers and administrators to demand government sanctions against Israel — sparking outrage and a pending probe by the school system’s independent investigator, The Post has learned.

In an email sent amid the since-suspended fighting between Israel and Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, terrorists, Principal Amanda Bueno told staffers at MS 136, "If you have been watching the news in absolute horror, you are not alone."

"You can take action today by protesting, attending a vigil, making a public commitment to Paleostinian Liberation, signing a petition, or calling your government officials to place sanctions on Isreal (sic)," she wrote Wednesday morning.

"The time is now to take a stand for those impacted by state-sanctioned violence and crimes against the humanity of the most vulnerable in our world."

Bueno — who titled the email, "Day of Action in Solidarity with The Paleostinian Uprising & General Strike" — also included a list of links.

One led to the "Teach Paleostine" website and another to a May 10 article about US Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) tweeting against the Israeli raid on the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem that sparked the recent round of Hamas rocket attacks.

An MS 136 teacher, who is Jewish, told The Post, "I opened the email and I was in shock. I felt very targeted and very attacked by her words."

"These resources she provided, it’s propaganda," the teacher added.

"There was nothing in the email about Hamas rockets targeting innocent Israeli civilians."

Lawyer Inna Vernikov — a former staffer for then-Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn), an outspoken supporter of Israel — also sent a letter to the DOE calling for Bueno to be reprimanded.

"New York law forbids requesting or encouraging any public servant, city employee, or subordinate public servant/employee to engage in political activities," she wrote.

Vernikov, the Republican candidate running to succeed crooked ex-City Councilman Chaim Deutsch (D-Brooklyn) said she knew MS 136 teachers with "close family members who live in Israel."

But she said the educators "are intimidated and afraid to speak out to counter such messages in fear of losing their jobs."

Outside the school in Sunset Park, several parents uniformly criticized Bueno’s email when told about it.

"Wrong, wrong, wrong," said one man who was there to pick up his son.

"Stay in the middle. You are saying, ’Support this group and not the other.’ That’s wrong."

A man who gave his name as Edward and said his son was a sixth-grader, said, "I don’t take sides. As a principal, I don’t think she should."

A man who was picking up his daughter also said, "She should remain neutral because in New York, you have so many different groups of people."

A front man for the Department of Education said, "The matter is being addressed internally and was referred to [the special commissioner of investigation] for further investigation."

Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter tells anti-Israel principal to apologize
[NYPOST] Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter on Saturday called on the Brooklyn middle school principal who told staffers to protest against Israel to apologize, calling her actions "a clear exercise of poor judgment."

"The MS 136 principal must apologize for her email," Porter tweeted. "This was a clear exercise of poor judgment & we will take appropriate follow-up action. We must teach complex current events without bringing our political activities or beliefs into the classroom."

#1  Withdraw the ambassador before the vote, Israel, and cancel all contracts between Irish and Israeli companies. Let the English and the Dutch get the benefit of joint ventures while Ireland flounders. When they’re ready to give up hate for sense, they can negotiate their own Abraham Accord.

#2  It's always embarrassing to watch people being dumb-asses in public.

An Israeli diplomatic source shrugged off the motion saying it was tabled by a small number of “extremists,” and that Ambassador Ophir Kariv “is not packing his bags.”

I have not been following Irish politics, but my first sense is this is a bunch nutters, like our home-grown loons the "Squad", people who don't do much more than make a lot of noise. We shall see...

Poland to become first NATO country to buy Turkish drones
[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] Poland will buy 24 armed drones from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

The Bayraktar TB2 drones, the first of which are due to be delivered next year, will be armed with anti-tank projectiles. Poland will also buy a logistics and training package, said defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.

Blaszczak told state radio the Bayraktar TB2 drones "have proven themselves in wars" and added that the UAVs would be serviced by a military company, without giving further details.

The contract, which will be concluded without a procurement process, will be signed next week during a visit by Polish President Andrzej Duda to Turkey.

Authorities in fellow NATO member Turkey say the country has become the world’s fourth-largest drone producer since President Tayyip Erdogan increased domestic production to reduce reliance on Western arms.

was also interested in buying Ottoman Turkish drones.

Canada scrapped export permits for drone technology to Turkey in April, after concluding that the equipment was used by Azeri forces fighting Armenia in the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh. The parts under embargo included camera systems for Baykar armed drones.

The Grand Turk
Turkish mafia scandal threatens Erdogan government
[DW] Ottoman Turkish mafia boss Sedat Peker is leveling serious accusations against leading government politicians. He has published five videos on YouTube in which he claims that high-profile politicians from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
's ruling AKP party are involved in serious crimes.

The clips, which have gone viral and are making headlines, claim leading politicians were involved in malfeasance, murders, rapes, drug trafficking and other illicit practices. Peker alleges the Ottoman Turkish government has spent the past years shielding him from persecution, even issuing police escorts to guarantee his safety.

The Mafioso claims Ottoman Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu tipped him off that authorities were on his case, allowing him to flee Turkey and escape prosecution — an allegation that has put the minister under considerable pressure.

As the government has so far refused to investigate Peker's claims, Ottoman Turkish opposition politicians are demanding Soylu's resignation. But without a full investigation into the accusations, nobody knows at this stage whether there is any truth to the allegations.

Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu is accused of helping a criminal escape prosecution

Peker, who fled abroad in January 2020, has been well-known in Turkey for years. Known as a leading figure in Turkey's criminal underworld, he has been tried several times — including on charges of murder and kidnapping — and was sentenced for "establishing a criminal organization."

WISHING THE AFFAIR AWAY?
Peker's videos have sparked a lively debate in Turkey. After weeks of ignoring the accusations, President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
was finally compelled to comment.

"It causes us great sorrow to see that some wretched and unworthy people in our country accept help from the mafia," Erdogan said this week during a Cabinet meeting. "Like terror organizations, criminal gangs are venomous snakes."

Ibrahim Uslu, a political scientist with the Ankara Social Research Center (ANAR), says Erdogan's statement came too late. "The ruling AKP party must instantly launch a parliamentary inquiry when a man who had fled the country makes slanderous and insulting statements against the government."

Uslu says the entire affair is a public relations fiasco for the government because public trust in the judiciary and state is already low. "The AKP should have made clear it is taking decisive action against criminal organizations."

#1  Deja vu. The 2013 corruption scandal in Turkey was a criminal investigation that involved several key people in the Turkish government. All of the 52 people detained were connected ways with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

#1  not a very good summary

yes Hamas has improved its rockets since the 90s but not so much since 2014

back in 2014 they were able to launch about 4k rockets in 40 days, about the same number as in the 11 day 2021 conflict

back in 2014 Hamas was able to hit as far north as Mt Hermon which is actually further north than they got in 2021

Israel suffered about 20% of the causalties in 2021 as in 2014 (the latter has a ground attack on Gaza). We don't know about the Hamas+PIJ casualties yet but they also seem to be less than in 2014.

We don't know about the extent of damage to Hamas's tunnel network but it is likely that the 2021 damage greatly exceeded the 2014 damage. The tunnel detection technology deployed by the IDF worked pretty well.

Hamas put a lot of time, money, energy and prestige into building a naval attack force which was basically wiped out.

The biggest success of Hamas is having numerous allies in the US, many of them elected officials and having much of the culture in the US on their side.

Hamas leader thanks Iran for supplying weapons to Gaza
[Fox News] [Thanks, Joe B! You supply Iran with $ and they supply Hamas with weapons
Former Secretary of State Pompeo pointed to the remarks as a reason why the US should not lift Iranian sanctions

The head of the Palestinian resistance movement thanked Iran for supplying military support and financial backing during the recent conflict with Israel in a televised address Friday.

Just hours after Israel and Palestinian authorities agreed to a ceasefire, Ismail Haniyeh, a chief figure in Hamas, gave a warning that it will continue to "defend" Jerusalem.

"Jerusalem remains the center of the conflict," he said according to a report by the Jerusalem Post, suggesting fighting in the region will continue.

Haniyeh thanked "the Islamic Republic of Iran; who did not hold back with money, weapons and technical support."

"We will use the aid of other Arab countries as well," he added.
