Ongeri reveals intrigues behind Somalia's assassination plot
(Sh.M.Network)--Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Ongeri has for the first time revealed the power struggles in Somalia that led to last week's attempted liquidation of President-elect Hassan Sheikh Mahmud.

The Minister over the weekend recounted how an attempt by former President Sheikh Sharif to solicitKenya's support for re-election failed and which may have prompted the liquidation attempt.

The Islamist bad turban group Al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
has since grabbed credit for the attack.

"Before the elections, Mr Sharif had talked with me for one and half hours, requesting that Kenya support him capture the presidency. But I told him that Kenya did not want to support any candidate as it wanted a free and fair elections in order to restore peace among Somali people which they had missed for the last 22 years," Prof Ongeri said.

The minister said he was surprised when he saw the former President Sharif at Aljazeera Palace Hotel soon after the incident occurred and who appeared unshaken by what had happened.

"Although Al-Shabaab has claimed the credit of the incident, I don't know whether it was by coincident that Sharif came to the scene soon event as we held our breath waiting in the room for a bomb to be detonated," Prof Ongeri said.

The Minister was accompanied with MPs Adan Keynan, Fred Kapondi, Mohamed Affey, Hussein Ali, his personal assistant Jackson Nyagaka and bodyguard a Mr Njagi.

"I believe that God delayed our arrival inMogadishufor our own safety. There was no meaningful security details in the early hours of the day when we were expected to arrive in the Somali capital since there was peace and calm," Prof Ongeri recounted.

When he arrived with his delegation at 1pm, three hours late, he narrated, they attempted to use ordinary vehicles due to the assurance of calm. ButKenya's envoy to Somali Mr Wafula Wamunyinyi and General Karanja cautioned them against the move.

"When you have a high value target, you cannot afford to go in an ordinary vehicle," Prof Ongeri remembers Mr Wamunyi's warning.

The minister said they were whisked to Aljazeera Palace Hotel in Armoured Personnel to shield them from possible explosives.

At the hotel, he said he had hardly read President Kibaki's goodwill message to President Hassan when he heard gun shots outside the hotel.

"Although I continued reading the goodwill message to President Hassan, who remained composed despite heavy gunshots from outside the hotel, I saw the Kenyan delegation that included Kenyan journalists taking cover under tables," Prof Ongeri said.

He added: "I prayed and I remained calm for I knew God will not allow us perish as we were out for a good course."

The worst came when one of attackers was shot and the explosives he carried detonated, spraying his flesh and blood to the windows where their meeting was going on.

The Minister said the four attackers had powerful explosives, one created a big depression at the entrance of the hotel's compound after detonation.

"But we thank God that explosives of one of the attackers who was shot near the entrance of the hotel did not go off as it could have brought down the whole building," Prof Ongeri added.

He was addressing his Nyaribari Masaba constituents in his Omoyo rural home in Borabu District on Sunday.

MP faults Ongeri for 'careless talk' on Somalia
(Sh.M.Network)--Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Ongeri was "careless and reckless" when he accused Somalia's former President Sheikh Sharrif of being behind last week's attempted liquidation of his successor Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, an MP has said.

Speaking to the Nation on phone from Brussels, Belgium, nominated MP Mohammed Affey --who was with Prof Ongeri and other Kenyan dignitaries during the attempt in Mogadishu's Aljazeera Palace Hotel--said the accusations against the former President "were likely to destabilize" the new government.

"Al-Shabaab
... Harakat ash-Shabaab al-Mujahidin aka the Mujahideen Youth Movement. It was originally the youth movement of the Islamic Courts, now pretty much all of what's left of it. They are aligned with al-Qaeda but operate more like the Afghan or Pakistani Taliban...
have already grabbed credit. We all know this was the work of criminals, but when he says the former President was involved, only because of his presence at the hotel shortly after the attack, I think that is irresponsible and careless," said Mr Affey.

"It is a serious coup to diplomacy," Mr Affey added.

The MP said Sheikh Sharrif, who had "managed the transition very well" was "concerned about the attack" and that's why he showed up at the hotel. He added that such remarks ought to be backed up with fool-proof evidence.

"(Sheikh Sharrif) came to comfort us when he heard that there had been an attack at the hotel in which we were meeting the new President. It was very kind of him, and some of us, really appreciate that gesture. Would he have done that if he was involved? The minister should speak more carefully on issues ofSomalia," said Mr Affey.

Mr Affey, who is the chairman of Parliament's Committee on Equal Opportunity, and who's worked inSomaliabefore, said the aspersions cast on the character of formerSomalia's President were bound to backfire on Kenya.

"Yes, Prof Ongeri showed extreme courage, but the manner in which he's accused the former President is uncalled for, and does not help our diplomacy," Mr Affey said. "It is such remarks that will undermine the grinding of the peace processor in Somalia."

The MP noted that Prof Ongeri, who could be privy to classified security information given the stature of his ministerial docket, should have handled the matter more "carefully", rather than publicly accuse Sheikh Sharrif.

"Diplomats, and the minister should know, do not speak that way.Mogadishuis a very unsafe city, and the minister should know that," said Mr Affey.

When he made the remarks on Sunday to his Nyaribari Masaba constituents in his Omoyo rural home in Borabu District, the minister said the fact that Sheikh Sharrif had asked forKenya's help before the elections --an advance which was rejected.

"Before the elections, Mr Sharrif had talked with me for one and half hours, requesting thatKenyasupport him capture the presidency.

"Although Al-Shabaab has claimed the credit of the incident, I don't know whether it was by coincidence that Sharrif came to the scene soon event as we held our breath waiting in the room for a bomb to be detonated," Prof Ongeri said.

President's inauguration marks 'new era' for Somalia, says UN envoy
(Sh.M.Network)-- The top United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
envoy in Somalia on Sunday hailed the inauguration of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud as a "new era" for the war-scarred nation and pledged the world body's continued support to help it move forward.
Somebody has to say it: "Meet the new era, same as the old era..."
"This is another great day forSomaliaand the Somali people," said Augustine P. Mahiga, the Secretary-General's Special Representative and head of the UN Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS).

He said the inauguration of the new President -- elected a week ago -- marks the end of the transitional period and the beginning of a "new era" for a country that has seen tremendous strife over the past several decades.

The election marked the culmination of a series of landmark steps to bring an end to the country's eight-year political transition that also included the adoption of Somalia's provisional constitution, the establishment of the New Federal Parliament and the appointment of that body's Speaker.

"As the process moves forward," said Mr. Mahiga, "the UN Political Office for Somalia will continue to stand with the President in addressing key immediate tasks, including stabilization of newly recovered areas, ensuring the integration and stability of the security services, delivering basic services to the Somali people and building a viable judiciary system."

Just two days after his election, the new President survived an attack on a hotel in the capital,Mogadishu, where he was giving a presser. UN officials, including Mr. Mahiga, condemned the attack, stressing that such attempts to thwart the progress made so far will not deter the Somali people's determination to move forward.

Two lawyers accuse prominent Egyptian sheikh of denigrating Christianity
[Al Ahram] Supreme State Security Prosecution received a legal complaint from both lawyer Mamdouh Ramzi, the deputy head of Reform and Development Party, and lawyer Tharwat Bakheet accusing Sheikh Abu Eslam Ahmed Abdullah, the owner of the Islamic TV Channel (al-Omah) and The first niqabi-only TV channel (Mariya). The two attorneys accuse Abdullah of disdaining Christianity and burning the holy Bible in front of the US Embassy in Cairo last Saturday during the protests against anti-Islam film which denigrates the Prophet Mohamed.

The Prosecutor General Abdel Maguid Mahmoud had referred the complaint to the prosecution to investigate the case.

Video shows Libyans trying to rescue US ambassador
[Al Ahram] The group of Libyans had stumbled across Stevens' seemingly lifeless form inside a dark room and didn't know who he was, only that he was a foreigner, the man who shot the video and two other witnesses told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

The account underlines the confusion that reigned during the assault by protesters and heavily armed gunnies that overwhelmed the consulate in Benghazi last Tuesday night, killing four Americans, including Stevens, who died from smoke inhalation soon after he was found. U.S. officials are still trying to piece together how the top American diplomat in Libya got separated from others as staffers were evacuated, suffocating in what is believed to be a consulate safe-room.

The Libyans who found him expressed frustration that there was no ambulance and no first aid on hand, leaving him to be slung over a man's shoulder to be carried to a car.

"There was not a single ambulance to carry him. Maybe he was handled the wrong way," said Fahd al-Bakoush, a freelance videographer who shot the footage. "They took him to a private car."

U.S. and Libyan officials are also trying to determine who was behind the attack. Still unclear was whether it had been planned beforehand or was sparked by an anti-Islam film made in the United States that, hours before the Benghazi assault, had sparked protests at the American Embassy in Cairo.

On Sunday, Libyan President Mohammed el-Megarif contended foreign Death Eaters had been plotting the attack for months and timed it for Tuesday's 9/11 anniversary.

However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice said it appeared spontaneous and unplanned, that Islamic fascisti with heavier weapons "hijacked" the protest and turned it into an outright attack. She noted Libya is awash with weapons.

A CIA memo sent to U.S. politicians this weekend, and obtained by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named, says current intelligence still suggests the demonstrations in Benghazi "were spontaneously inspired by the protests at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo" and "evolved into a direct assault" on the diplomatic posts by "extremists."

Soon after the attack, Libyan civilians roamed freely around the trashed consulate, its walls blacked and furniture burned. Among them were the videographer al-Bakoush, and a photographer and art student he often works with.

They heard a panicked shout, "I stepped over a dead man," and rushed to see what was going on, al-Bakoush said. The body had been found inside a dark room with a locked door accessible only by a window. A group of men pulled him out and realized he was a foreigner and still alive.

He was breathing and his eyelids flickered, al-Bakoush said. "He was alive," he said. "No doubt. His face was blackened and he was like a paralyzed person."

Video taken by al-Bakoush and posted on YouTube shows Stevens being carried out of the room through a window with a raised shutter. "Bring him out, man," someone shouts. "Out of the way, out of the way!"

"Alive, Alive!" come other shouts, then a cheer of "God is great."

The next scene shows Stevens lying on a tile floor, with one man touching his neck to check his pulse. Al-Bakoush said that after that scene, they put Stevens in a private car to rush to the hospital.

The video has been authenticated since Stevens' face is clearly visible and he is wearing the same white t-shirt seen in authenticated photos of him being carried away on another man's shoulders, presumably moments later. The photographer and student who were with al-Bakoush at the scene gave the same account as he did.

"We were happy to see him alive. The youths tried to rescue him. But there was no security, no ambulances, nothing to help," said Ahmed Shams, the 22-year-old arts student.

When they entered the consulate, "there was no one around. There was no fire fighters, no ambulances, no relief," said the photographer, Abdel-Qader Fadl.

The accounts of all three witnesses mesh with that of the doctor who treated Stevens that night.

Dr. Ziad Abu Zeid told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named last week that Stevens was nearly lifeless when he was brought by Libyans, with no other Americans around, to the Benghazi hospital where he worked. He said Stevens had severe asphyxia from the smoke and that he tried for 90 minutes to resuscitate him with no success. Only later did security officials confirm it was Stevens.

Fadl said he drove to the hospital behind the car carrying Stevens.

During the assault, more than 30 U.S. staffers were evacuated from the consulate. So far, U.S. officials have not announced the results of an investigation into the circumstances of the four Americans' deaths.

They have said preliminary reports said that amid the evacuation, Stevens and foreign service officer Sean Smith were inside the consulate with a regional security officer. They got separated in the smoke. The security officer and others went back in to try to find the two of them and found Smith dead. They pulled him out but flames and gunfire forced them to flee before they could find Stevens.

Al-Bakoush and his colleagues said that once they learned his identity, they were stunned Stevens had been alone.

"I've never seen incompetence and negligence like this, from the two sides, the Americans and the Libyans," he said. "You can sacrifice everyone but rescue the ambassador. He is the ambassador for God's sake."

State Department In Talks To Transfer ‘blind Sheikh’ To Egypt
The U.S. State Department is currently in negotiations with the Egyptian government for the transfer of custody of Omar Abdel-Rahman, also known as “the Blind Sheikh,” for humanitarian and health reasons, a source close to the the Obama administration told TheBlaze.
This just can't be true. Champ would lose New York in the election if he did this.
The Department of Justice, however, told TheBlaze that Rahman is serving a life sentence and is not considered for possible “release.”

Previous calls to the State Department were referred to the Department of Justice and so far, the State Department has neither confirmed nor denied the report.

Glenn Beck revealed the controversial news on his show Monday.
Beck occasionally barks up the wrong tree...
The Blind Sheikh is currently serving a life sentence in American prison for his role in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, but the newly-elected Islamist government in Egypt has been actively petitioning his release. Many have pinpointed a cause of last week‘s unrest in in the country to be protests over the Blind Sheikh’s release — not an anti-Muslim YouTube video.
It could never just be that the rubes were whipped up by the Islamicists elites, now could it...
A veteran intelligence analyst familiar with TheBlaze’s sourcing on this story said he met with an official on the Egypt desk at the State Department who told him the transfer of the Blind Sheikh to Egypt is something that is being “actively considered” by the administration as a solution to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. His source asked not to be identified, fearing he would be persecuted by the U.S. government.

“He said, ‘you’ve got to help me,’” the analyst told TheBlaze.
This is the sort of thin sourcing for which we ordinarily condemn leftist rags like the New York Times...
When asked if the transfer of the convicted terrorist was being seriously considered, the intelligence analyst said yes, according to his source in the State Department, who added that the move was not intended to take place or be announced until after the presidential election.

He also said it is likely that the riots and unrest in the Middle East are related to efforts pressing for the release of Rahman, not the anti-Muslim YouTube clip that the Obama administration is adamant sparked the chaos.

“When radical Islamists in Egypt were calling for the burning down of the U.S. embassy this past weekend, before the riots took place this week, they said they were going to do this to push for the release of the Blind Sheikh,” he added.

Rahman, or the Blind Sheikh, is the former leader of the radical “Islamic Group” in Egypt, which now holds 13 seats in the Egyptian Parliament. The Obama administration recently hosted a member of the designated terrorist organization at the White House, where Hani Nour Eldin met with senior State Department and Obama administration officials. Eldin reportedly urged the National Security Council to release Rahman during his visit, the analyst explained.

Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy, who was the lead prosecutor in the Blind Sheikh case, told TheBlaze that he does not doubt the accuracy of the report, saying “there are very good reasons as to why it could be true.”

McCarthy explained that Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has been calling for the release of the Blind Sheikh ever since he was elected earlier this year. He said it is a matter of “great importance” to the radical Islamists in Egypt and throughout the Middle East, adding that his transfer to Egypt would undoubtedly lead to the terrorist’s release.

“I think the plan has been to agree to the Blind Sheikh’s release but not to announce it or have it become public until after the election. That is consistent with Obama’s pattern of trying to mollify Islamists,” he added. “Obviously, they did not want this information to surface yet… but sometimes a situation can spin out of control.”

McCarthy also said the way the Department of Justice worded its denial may prove to be significant. The DOJ said Rahman’s “release” was not being considered, however, the question was whether or not his “transfer” to Egypt was being discussed.

“Islamists in Egypt have been advocating for his release since we arrested him in the Summer of 1993 and have threatened and committed horrendous acts of violence to force his release,” the former federal prosecutor said. “The worst in Luxor, Egypt, where 58 tourists and 4 police officers were brutally shot, stabbed and the attackers left behind leaflets demanding the release of the Blind Sheikh, some inside the torsos of the victims.”

Former State Department senior official Christian Whiton appeared on Real News From TheBlaze to discuss the report, and stated that it is certainly a possibility.

“Unfortunately, I think it is [conceivable]. And it’s unfortunate because it amounts to negotiating with terrorists…but after all, this administration was inching closer and closer to some sort of trade of terrorists with the Taliban, so perhaps it’s considering the same with [Egyptian President Morsi].”

He also noted that the administration could avoid what he deemed “political suicide” by “whispering” to Egypt’s President Morsi that they can move in that direction after the election.

Buck Sexton noted that the transfer of the Lockerbie bomber was similarly unexpected.

“As with so many things in the Middle East, we’ve accepted the unacceptable,” Whiston remarked.

#8  The Morsi regime might have told the US that unless the Sheikh is released/transferred the US embassy WILL be taken over. Period.

The political damage would be considerably greater than that of a transfer which would not have any immediate negative consequences and could be spun until the election.

It would be a visible act of contrition and reconciliation which would put the film affair to rest.

Lockerbie killed 270 people, 11 on the ground. The 1993 attack killed only 6. Yet Megrahi was released to appease Gaddafi.

This story is not implausible. The release could only be prevented if Obama and the Democrats realize that the political fallout would be unacceptable to them, and that is far from obvious.

This was nearly a full month before the murder of Ambo Stevens. This story may have been posted here before; I don't recall. The posting is at: Link. The transfer of the Blind Sheik has been discussed before the attacks or riots. Some have suggested the attacks at Benghazi were more about the Blind Sheik transfer than about the cheesy video.

#22  I believe it to be another fast and furious gun deal that went bad. They knew Bengazi was a bad place to be. Like a white guy in SE DC wearing a confederate flag jacket. Dead long before the paid demonstrators showed up. The video and Sheikh are just cover stories. Now its about getting whatever they can out of it. Obama has several tricks up his sleeve. I look for some very nasty tricks by him as he goes out kicking and screaming.

BS. They are naive if they think they can negotiate with these people. Just a jockeying for position until the next buildings go down or the next city disappears.

India-Pakistan
Pakistan 'forced' scientist to trade secrets
Abdul Qadeer Khan, Pakistan's renegade nuclear scientist, claims he was ordered to sell nuclear secrets by Benazir Bhutto, the country's former prime minister.

Mrs Bhutto's allies have rubbished the claim but, if true, his revelations raise fresh questions about Pakistan's role in the spread of nuclear weapons and brings the threat of sanctions.

Dr Khan is known as the father of Pakistan's atom bomb but was also at the centre of a proliferation network that sold secret technology to rogue states around the world, including Libya and Iran. In 2004 he signed a confession claiming he acted without the consent of the government and was pardoned, an account he has now contradicted.

''The then prime minister, Benazir Bhutto, summoned me and named the two countries which were to be assisted,'' Dr Khan said in an interview with the Jang media group, without naming the two nations. He said he had no option but to obey Mrs Bhutto, who was prime minister from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 to 1996. She died in a suicide attack in 2007.

''The prime minister would have certainly known about the role and co-operation of the two countries, mentioned by her, in our national interest,'' he claimed.

Dr Khan, 76, who was released from house arrest in 2009, remains a national hero for his role in helping develop a nuclear warhead, which was successfully tested in May 1998 - the first in the Islamic world.

The US has repeatedly asked to question him about his role in selling nuclear secrets but has been rebuffed.

He has admitted selling centrifuge technology to Iran, North Korea and Libya. He is also suspected of offering secrets to Iraq, as part of a covert operation that ran for about 10 years until 1999.

Members of Mrs Bhutto's political party and government officials all denied that she - or her government - was involved in nuclear proliferation and criticised Dr Khan for making allegations against a woman who could not defend herself. A government statement said the matter had been investigated.

''It had been clearly established that the proliferation activity was an individual act, and did not carry authorisation of any Pakistani government, at any stage,'' it said.

Parties announce long march against profane film
[Dawn] Religious parties announced on Sunday a countrywide long march against the desecration of the Holy Koran and a recent anti-Islam film.
Healthy exercise in the fresh air and sunshine. This is a good thing!
At a rally taken out by various religious parties under banner of the Jamatud Dawa (JuD) from Neela Gumbad to Masjid-e-Shuhda, the protesters vowed to launch jihad against the 'US-Jewish lobby' if they did not stop 'anti-Islam activities'.

"We demand the immediate arrest and execution of all those who took part in the blasphemous film," JuD chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed
...who would be wearing a canvas jacket with very long sleeves anyplace but Pakistain...
said.

"Otherwise they must be ready to face our wrath," he threatened the film producers and actors.

"If you (the US government) do not hang them, we will stop the operation of all of your embassies across the world," he said.

He called the provocative film the worst terrorism in the world, and urged the Organisation of the Islamic Conference to immediately call a meeting and take up the issue with the US.

"We will also call an APC (all parties' conference) and invite President Zardari, Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
, Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight...
and Fazalur Rehman there. Let's see who avoids the meeting," he added.

PML-Zia Chief Ijazul Haq urged the countries to get rid of the US and protest against its terrorism in the world.

Jamaat-e-Ulema Ahle Hadith Nazim Ibtasam Elahi Zaheer, Maulana Ameer Hamza, Qari Zawar Bahadur, Maulana Muhammad Amjad Khan and Qari Muhammad Yaqoob also spoke.

Iraq
Iraq reopens border to Syria refugees, excludes young men
Iraq reopened its border with Syria on Tuesday to receive refugees escaping violence, but refused entry to young men for security reasons, Iraqi officials said.

"They (the central government) fear that some of those young men could be members of al Qaeda or the Free Syrian Army," a local government official in Iraq's Anbar province said.

Al Qaim was closed at the end of August when Syrian forces backed by jets fought rebels for control of an airfield and military base near the Syrian border town of Albu Kamal, within metres of the crossing and on a major supply route from Iraq.

"The prime minister gave orders to receive 100 refugees daily and the priority is for women, children, elderly, wounded and sick people, but excluded young men," al Qaim's mayor Farhan Ftaikhan told Reuters by phone.

Ftaikhan said Iraqi authorities had set up refugee camp facilities with a capacity for five hundred families.

Al Qaim is already suffering spill over from the fighting in Syria and Syrian jets fly over Iraqi airspace almost daily to make bombing runs on rebel positions just inside Iraq.

Iraq's government is struggling to overcome its own insurgency and legacy of sectarian violence. Baghdad says it has evidence Sunni Islamist fighters are crossing the porous border to fight against Syria's President Bashar al-Assad.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hamas leaders to settle disputes in Cairo
[Al Ahram] Two Paleostinian delegations belonging to the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, movement, the de facto rulers of the Gazoo Strip, arrived in Egypt for an official visit on Monday.
The first delegation is headed by Prime Minister of the Paleostinian Authority Ismail Haniya, while the other is headed by leading Hamas official in exile Khaled Mashal. Both leaders of the Islamist resistance movement have come to Cairo before to meet with Egypt's elected Islamist president Mohamed Morsi; however, this will be the first time that both leaders visit Egypt in the same time.

"The delegation coming from Gazoo have already crossed the Egyptian borders and are on their way to Cairo to meet with Egypt's prime minister, Hisham Qandil, while Mashal will be meeting in the coming few days with President Morsi. Both delegations will be leaving Egypt on Friday," senior Hamas official Mahmoud El-Zahar told Ahram Online on Monday.

However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
there is more to the Hamas leaders' visits to Cairo than simply talks with Egyptian leaders. The movement is set to choose a new chairman for its Political Bureau, the position Mashal currently occupies, before the end of this month, after secretive elections held among its members in the Paleostinian territories, in diaspora communities, and inside Israeli prisons.

Both Mashal and Haniya are believed to be key candidates to lead the second highest institution of Hamas, after the Shura Council.

Egyptian sources close to Hamas told Ahram Online that Mashal and Haniya are not in agreement on many political issues, as reflected in the dispute between the different sectors of the movement inside and outside the Paleostinian territories.

"These disputes were the reason why Mashal resigned from his post in the politburo earlier this year, saying that he will not run again for its top post. Yet Mashal gave up on his resignation due to the current political situation that the movement faces in Syria, as it will have to move its offices from Damascus
...Home to a staggering array of terrorist organizations...
to somewhere else," explained the source.

El-Zahar, speaking to Aram Online, undermined the dispute between both camps saying that "it does not represent a real threat with all the organizational and political heritage that the movement has."

The disputes that El-Zahar tries to play down also include those between Hamas and Cairo about suspects wanted by Egypt for investigations into the Rafah border attack in August that left 16 Egyptian army soldiers dead. "We have turned this page already," said El-Zahar. "Now Cairo has all the information they need about the suspects and we were not asked to do more."

There is also a dispute between Gazoo and Cairo regarding the tunnels that are used for smuggling goods and people across the border.

Egypt is demanding that all tunnels be destroyed, but, according to El-Zahar: "We need the tunnels."

"The border is 14km long, over which the tunnels are spread. This area is divided into two parts: one where we have full control over the tunnels and in which the tunnels have not yet been destroyed, and the western part which is controlled by Israel; there the tunnels have been destroyed completely."

El-Zahar said that the tunnels will be among the main topics for discussion with the Egyptian government.

"We want Cairo to reconsider its decision. We have full control over the tunnels on our side and not even under ousted president Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
did Egypt think of crippling all the tunnels without providing an alternative," argues El-Zahar.

Hamas, according to its leading member, wants Egypt to open the Rafah border checkpoint to transfer goods and also to establish a free trading zone on the Egyptian side of the borders, an alternative that Egypt has said it will consider.

Paleostinian sources estimates the value of tunnel trade to be $2 million a day. Hamas takes 7 per cent of the value of traded goods in taxes.

"This is major revenue for the Hamas government under siege", an Egyptian source told Ahram Online.

"The meeting between Haniya and Qandil was planned earlier to discuss this matter; however Haniya was not able to cross the borders to the Egyptian side for security reasons."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran launches submarine as US navy drills in Gulf
Iran launched a submarine and a destroyer into the Gulf from Bandar Abbas port on Tuesday at the same time as US and allied navies held exercises in the same waters to practice keeping oil shipping lanes open.

Tehran has repeatedly threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, a route for oil exports from the Gulf, if Iranian nuclear sites are attacked by Israel, which believes Tehran is trying to develop an atomic bomb.

The United States, Britain, France and a number of Middle Eastern states are conducting a naval exercise in the Gulf this week, focusing on how to clear mines that Tehran or guerrilla groups might deploy to disrupt tanker traffic.

Iran's refitted Tareq-901 submarine and Sahand destroyer were launched on the direct orders of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Did they say anything about either coming back?

Safe to ditto for Iran as per the future NucProgs of the mostly pro-Nuke "Arab/Islamic Spring" Govts-States = "Islamist Democracies" in the ME + North Africa [Egypt].

There is Azerbaijan + other ex-Soviet -STANS in Central Asia, but Iran knows Mama Russia won't stand for their involvement in any US-Iran ground war widout Russ consent.

Hezbollah chief makes rare public show at Beirut rally Monday
[Al Ahram] Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah made a rare public appearance on Monday to address an anti-US rally in southern Beirut attended by thousands of protesters who erupted into the streets to denounce a film mocking Islam.
Whoa! Six more weeks of winter?
Feeling his oats, is he...
It was his fifth public appearance in six years, and the first time he made a full speech in person to thousands of his supporters since 2008. Nasrallah has been in hiding since 2006, when his Lebanese Shiite movement and Israel fought a bloody 33-day war.

Lebanon asks Iran to explain Guards' presence
[Al Ahram] President Michel Suleiman
...before assuming office as President, he held the position of commander of the Leb Armed Forces. That was after the previous commander, the loathesome Emile Lahoud, took office as president in November of 1998. Likely the next president of Leb will be whoever's commander of the armed forces, too...
demanded on Monday that Iran provide an official explanation as to why members of its Revolutionary Guards have been sent to Leb. On Sunday, the Guards commander said members of his elite special operations unit, the Quds Force, were in Syria and Leb but only to provide "counsel."

"President Sleiman asked for an official explanation from the relevant Iranian authorities," his office said.

Iran To Target Makers Of Anti-Islamic Film
Iran vowed to track down and punish the makers of a video mocking the Prophet Mohammad in the first state-sponsored threat to the people behind the inflamatory footage.
He's in the hands of the FBI. Their phone number is available for a simple google.
Update: It has been reported that he was quietly released after a brief interview, and promptly disappeared.
Iranian officials have demanded that the United States apologise to Moslems for the movie, saying it is only the latest in a series of Western insults aimed at Islam's holy figures.

Rahimi did not give details on how Iran would pursue the makers of the film in his remarks, which the Iranian Students' News Agency said he had made at a cabinet meeting on Sunday.

#3  A lot of message traffic is over classified.
On the other hand, warnings like impending doom threats to embassies and personnel which usually are classified aren't necessarily paid attention to.
Add in human nature to both hoard stuff and CYAWP, it has an unfortunate tendency to pile up rather than be disposed of in a timely manner.

Obama can be sued over insulting film: Iran official
[Iran Press TV] A senior Iranian official says US President Barack Obama
We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us...
could face legal action in connection with the production of an anti-Islam movie by an American Jew.

The US government is a signatory to this covenant and has to respect it. Therefore, an individual or an NGO (non-governmental organization) can file a lawsuit against the president of the country for breach of the covenant, he added
"A complaint could be filed with US courts against Obama for his violation of articles 18 and 27 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) calling for respect of faiths," Javad Mohammadi, the deputy head of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution (SCCR), said on Sunday.

"Article 18 and 27 of the ICCPR, adopted by the United Nation, stipulate that the religion and the rights of the minorities should be respected," Mohammadi said.

The US government is a signatory to this covenant and has to respect it. Therefore, an individual or an NGO (non-governmental organization) can file a lawsuit against the president of the country for breach of the covenant, he added.

Mohammadi heaped praise on the Moslems for their massive protests against the movie, noting "Protest against insults to religious sanctities should not be limited to time, place and customary reactions and we should undertake legal measures."

"The world's elite know pretty well that Islam is a divine religion and Moslems have always respected divine religions and messengers and would never remain silent vis-à-vis any desecration," the official said.

The controversial movie that has sparked outrage in the Moslem world has been produced by anti-Islam Israeli-American Sam Bacile.

Bacile has assumed responsibility for the direction and production of the blasphemous film, which he said was made thanks to Jewish donations totaling USD 5 million.

#1  IIRC FOX NEWS AM segment > I didn't get the whole thing so I could be wrong, but it appears that an Islamic Cleric(s) has issued a FATWA calling for those responsible for the film to be killed, ala SALMAN RUSHDIE.

This may not bode well for the Bammer going into November elex + Iran crisis, as in the minds of many Muslims any failure by the US to stop distribution or presentation of the film, or to prosecute its makers, is akin to the Bammer = USA supporting the film + its debasement of Mohammed + the Islamic/Muslim faith.

International Jihadists may be more unilater inspired to initiate violent or deadly Terrops inside the USA, + wid or widout a US-Iran War having to occur in the ME.
