BDS Hijacks Barcode App To Boycott Israel, Says Unhappy Author
[IsraelTimes] Like a monster escaping from its creator, an app designed to enhance social activism has been adopted to boycott Israel. Frank Pardo, a California native who developed the app has watched unhappily as the BDS crowd discovered his Buycott app, a mobile phone bar-code scanner app that checks the social provenance of products. "It caught us a little off guard, but unless we change our policy and remove all country boycotts — including the ones of Qatar and Iran — there's little we can do," said Pardo.

Some consumers are doing it for him, turning the "boycott Israel" campaign on its head by using it to find Israeli products to buy.

Pardo is a supporter of Israel, although he admits that he is not all that familiar with the arguments on both sides of the conflict. "It bothers me that a lot of people are downloading Buycott and thinking that it was written specifically to boycott Israel," said Pardo. "It was not, and to counter that notion I have been actively encouraging pro-Israel groups to start campaigns supporting Israel. My focus has been on US-based issues," such as checking if a product is made with genetically modified components.
It seems to me there's an opportunity for disruption, should someone have the skill, though it might disrupt profitability for the owner.

Africa North
U.S. Sends $10m for French Counterterrorism in Africa
[AnNahar] U.S. President Barack Obama
I am not a dictator!...
on Monday authorized $10 million in military aid for a major French counterterrorism mission in the Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
of West Africa.

"I hereby determine that an unforeseen emergency exists that requires immediate military assistance to La Belle France in its efforts to secure Mali, Niger and Chad from forces of Evil and violent bully boys," Obama said.

National Security Council front man Edward Price said: "The funds will go toward "airlift and aerial refueling services requested by La Belle France to support their counterterrorism operations in those countries."

In January 2013, La Belle France launched a large scale operation in Mali aimed at defeating the Islamist turbans who had overrun the north of the former French colony.

This month La Belle France reconfigured its force to launch "Operation Barkhane" to combat Islamist violence in a broader swathe of the region touching on five countries along the southern rim of the Sahara.

The operation, to be based in Chad's capital N'Djamena, will involve some 3,000 French troops backed by aircraft and with logistical support from the United States and some of La Belle France's European allies.

Arabia
Cabinet backs king's call to confront terrorism
[ARABNEWS] The Council of Ministers has backed King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah's call to confront terrorism and extremism, while denouncing Israel's barbarism against Paleostinians in Gazoo.

The Cabinet meeting, which was presided over by Deputy Crown Prince Muqrin, reviewed the suffering of the Paleostinian people in Gazoo as a result of the Zionist state's continuous aggression.

"The Cabinet also discussed the deteriorating situations in Syria and Iraq, renewing the Kingdom's call on the international community to assume its responsibilities toward these tragic humanitarian situations," said Housing Minister and Acting Information Minister Shuwaish Al-Dhuwaihi.

The Cabinet highlighted the significance of King Abdullah's speech addressing Islamic and Arab nations and the international community.

"It is our duty to stand in the face of those who try to abduct Islam and present it to the world as a religion of extremism, hatred and terrorism," the king said in his historic speech.

The Cabinet noted the warning given by the king against the silence of the international community on what is happening in the region and the suffering of Paleostinians during ongoing mass killings and war crimes against humanity.

Kuwait Revokes More Citizenships Citing State Security
[AnNahar] Kuwait has revoked the citizenship of 10 people, including activists, the government said Monday in the second such move in less than a month as part of a crackdown on dissent.

The decision announced after a cabinet meeting did not identify those affected by the decision, but local media said they were opposition figures.

The cabinet said the decision was based on a provision in the nationality law that allows citizenship to be revoked of those who threaten Kuwait's security, social order or economy.

Local media said among those affected were activist Nabil al-Awadhi, who is close to the Moslem Brüderbund, and Saad al-Ajami, a former journalist turned front man for the opposition Popular Action Movement.

On July 21, Kuwait revoked the citizenship of several people, including the owner of a pro-opposition television station and newspaper, Ahmad Jabr al-Shammari, and former Islamist opposition MP Abdullah al-Barghash along with his family members.

Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
denounced the action in a statement on Sunday as a "crackdown on people seeking reform".

"No government has the right to strip away its people's citizenship simply because it disapproves of them, their opinions, or their actions," said HRW's Joe Stork.

"This is yet another downward step in Kuwait's assault on the right to free speech," he added, urging the government to reverse its decision.

Last month, the cabinet said the citizenships of Barghash and his relatives were revoked because they had been granted on the basis of false information.

OPEC member Kuwait has a native population of 1.25 million, a large number of them through naturalization, and hosts 2.8 million foreigners.

Unlike other Gulf states, it has a democratically-elected parliament.

Australia, U.S. Appalled at Decapitated Head Photo
[AnNahar] A shocking image of what is believed to be the young son of an Australian man holding a decapitated head in Syria shows how barbaric the Islamic State "terrorist army" is, Prime Minister Tony Abbott said Monday.

He made the comment while announcing Australia will likely join airdrops of supplies to Iraqi civilians besieged by jihadist IS holy warriors on a barren mountain.

The picture, taken in the northern Syrian city of Raqa, was posted on the Twitter account of Khaled Sharrouf, an Australian who fled to Syria last year and is now an IS fighter, The Australian newspaper said.

It reportedly shows Sharrouf's seven-year-old, Sydney-raised son dressed like any other young boy in blue checked trousers, a blue shirt and baseball cap, struggling to hold up the severed head of a slain Syrian soldier by his hair.

It was captioned with the words "That's my boy".

Another photo published by the newspaper shows Sharrouf dressed in camouflage fatigues posing with three young boys whom it said are believed by security agencies to be his sons.

All are holding guns in front of the flag of the Islamic State holy warriors who have swept across Iraq and Syria, seizing swathes of territory.

Abbott, speaking to ABC radio from the Netherlands, said the pictures showed the barbaric nature of the Sunni bully boyz formerly known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...
(ISIL).

"What we've got to appreciate is that Islamic State -- as they're now calling themselves -- is not just a terrorist group, it's a terrorist army and they're seeking not just a terrorist enclave but effectively a terrorist state, a terrorist nation," he said.

"And this does pose extraordinary problems... not just for the people of the Middle East but for the wider world.

"And we see more and more evidence of just how barbaric this particular entity is."

U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel was equally outraged, saying the holy warriors were "a threat to the civilized world".

"I think this was reflected in a local newspaper I saw this morning and the picture on the front page. It was pretty graphic evidence of the real threat that IS represents," he said in Sydney.

Australia has an arrest warrant out for Sharrouf, who has also been pictured posing with severed heads. Officials have said up to 150 Australians are fighting alongside holy warriors overseas, mostly in Iraq and Syria.

Sharrouf, who served almost four years in prison after pleading guilty over a 2005 conspiracy to attack Sydney, fled the country using his brother's passport.

Australian Defense Minister David Johnston said he was "revolted" by the image, which he called "a shocking misrepresentation of Islam".

"I'm very upset about this sort of thing completely coloring our view of Mohammedans," he said, while Lebanese Mohammedan Association president Samier Dandan distanced the Australian Mohammedan community from it.

"I stand very far from that concept -- this is an act of a lunatic," he told the ABC.

Abbott, meanwhile, said Australia was ready to take part in American airdrops to civilians threatened in Iraq, and could also deploy two aircraft for any airlift mission.

"Australia will gladly join the humanitarian airlift to the people stranded on Mount Sinjar. This is a potential humanitarian catastrophe -- President B.O. has said it's a potential genocide," he said.

"So we do have some Hercules C1-30 aircraft in the Middle East and we have a C-17 that's bringing humanitarian supplies from Australia in the next day or so, and we'd expect to join that humanitarian airlift should it be needed sometime later in the week."
Given how many have already escaped that mountain, one would think the remainder won't be there very much longer. On the other hand, the Kurds will need a lot of help feeding their suddenly acquired excess population. One hopes the generous humanitarian donors will continue to be generous afterward. It should be noted that the Kurds will also need increased weaponry to protect their newly acquired residents. Hint, hint.
As well as dropping supplies, American jets and drones have been carrying out attacks on IS holy warriors in northern Iraq as Washington tries to turn the tide on two months of jihadist expansion in the region.

Jewish students 'bullied' out of class
[3AW Melbourne] Jewish students are allegedly being assaulted and refused entry into lectures at universities around Melbourne.

Student groups report anti-Israel protesters at RMIT, Monash and La Trobe campuses are profiling people and heckling Jews out of class lectures.

Matthew Lesh from the Australasian Union of Jewish Students told Tom Elliott they've had a "phenomenal" experience on campus in the past two weeks.

"What's happening on the other side of the world is directly impacting Jewish students in the most disgusting and despicable manner," he said.

"We've seen across campuses, across Melbourne, even across Australia, what would be classed as anti-semitism in any understanding being carried out against Jewish students simply because Jewish students are associated with Israel.

"Some of the things that we're hearing on campus at the moment are beyond reprehensible.

"You've got fundamental bullying of people just because of their views, their religious beliefs."

He said there has even been physical violence.

"A Jewish student was shoved after being called some quite vulgar language," he told Tom Elliott.

"What we're really doing is calling for the universities to take a strong stand against this kind of activity on their campuses, especially La Trobe university.

"We have specific students who are going out of their way to bully Jewish students."

But I kinda understand that Swedes don't want to see Israeli flags hanging from balconies and in window displays just the way I don't like seeing Mexican flags in California being displayed the same way. If you wanna fly a Mexican flag, go back to Mexico.

#8  I can understand how an Israeli flag flown over sausages on a grill could be interpreted as disrespectful. I don't understand why they would do that.

There are a lot of Americans like me who have ancestors from Northern Ireland. The "troubles" they have kinda strike a nerve with me and from where I sit it all seems pointless. The parade sounds like fun. Maybe it's easy for me to say because I don't live there but I think there would be room enough for all of them if they could just stop hating each other. They don't seem all that different except for the churches they attend and the flags they fly.

He also mentioned that rape never was a problem among the native Swedish population before but it is now. He moved to Israel. I guess he thinks it is less dangerous, (ha!) dodging rockets from Hamas. I came across an article published in the Jewish Daily Forward that describes the problems in Malmo for Jews. The situation has gotten worse since then. Things don't seem to be much better for Christians in Muslim-dominated countries. Here.

The Grand Turk
Turkish Group Plans New Flotilla To Challenge Gaza Blockade
[IsraelTimes] A Turkish aid group said on Monday it would send a new flotilla of ships to challenge Israel's naval blockade of Gazoo, four years after the deadly storming of one of its vessel by Israeli commandos.

The Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), which organized the first flotilla, said in a statement that activists from 12 countries had met in Istanbul and made the decision to send the ships "in the shadow of the latest Israeli aggression on Gazoo."

"As most governments are complicit, the responsibility falls on civil society to challenge the Israeli blockade on Gazoo," it said.

The IHH would hold a presser on Tuesday, it added. The group is considered to be close to the Turkish government.

Last month a Gulf Online report published in English by The Middle East Monitor claimed IHH chairman Bulent Yildrim had said that "Turkish army troops will accompany the ships to protect [them] from any potential attack."

In May 2010, the Mavi Marmara ferry was boarded by Israeli commandos as it attempted to break the naval blockade of the Gazoo Strip. In the ensuing melee, after the Israeli soldiers were attacked with iron bars and wooden bats, troops opened fire and nine Turkish activists were killed; 10 Israeli soldiers were maimed. Israel designates the IHH as a terrorist organization.

The incident triggered a crisis in relations between Israel and Turkey, which were already strained since Israel's Operation Cast Lead in Gazoo in 2008-2009. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi only they haven't dumped him yet...
lashed out at then president Shimon Peres at the Davos Economic Forum, telling him: "When it comes to killing, you know very well how to kill. I know well how you hit and kill children on beaches."

Turkish-Israeli ties have yet to recover and they continue to be shaky, with Turkish officials often unleashing scathing criticism of Israel.
Apparently there's a great deal of quiet trade going on, nonetheless, and the Turkish entrepreneurial community would really like Israel's venture capitalists to check them out.
As part of an ongoing criminal trial brought by the IHH and the victims' families in 2012, a Turkish court in May ordered the arrest of four former Israeli military chiefs involved in the raid.

Talks on compensation began a year ago after Israel extended a formal apology to Turkey in a breakthrough brokered by US President Barack Obama
I am not a dictator!...
But they stalled after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who sees himself as a champion of the Paleostinian cause and is now the president-elect, stepped up his rhetoric against Israel in the wake of the IDF's recent Operation Protective Edge in Gazoo.
So they didn't get all the beautiful Jewish jizya as planned? Good.
Erdogan last week accused Israel of being "more barbaric than Hitler" during the military campaign, that it launched on July 8, aimed at stopping rocket fire from Gazoo at Israeli cities and destroying tunnels, dug under the border by Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, that were used by gunnies to infiltrate into Israel and carry out deadly attacks.

Feinstein Warns of Risk of ISIL Attack on America
DiFi is a nutter on a lot of issues but she's been quite responsible and serious on intel matters.
Senate Intelligence Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein warned Friday of the risk that the insurgent group ISIL could be preparing fighters to attack American and European targets.

“It has become clear that ISIL is recruiting fighters in Western countries, training them to fight its battles in the Middle East and possibly returning them to European and American cities to attack us in our backyard,” the California Democrat said in a statement backing military action authorized by President Barack Obama. “We simply cannot allow this to happen.”

Feinstein called for a broader military campaign against ISIL, not just the targeted missions authorized by the president.

“It takes an army to defeat an army, and I believe that we either confront ISIL now or we will be forced to deal with an even stronger enemy in the future. Inaction is no longer an option. I support actions by the administration to coordinate efforts with Iraq and other allies to use our military strength and targeting expertise to the fullest extent possible,” Feinstein said.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., warned of a similar possibility in an opinion piece for Time.com.

“America’s security interests extend well beyond the fate of Iraq’s religious minorities. Because ISIS, with thousands of foreign fighters, many of them from the West, will not rest once it has taken Erbil or Baghdad. Its expansionist ideology will lead it to attack U.S. allies in the region and eventually Europe and the United States,” wrote Rubio, a member of the Intelligence panel.

As hideous a thought as that might be, it is the path Champ took in IL and expalins why DiFi and the Hildebeast are showing fangs not. Omar wants army vacate Kargil plateau for township, seeks PM's intervention
[HINDUSTANTIMES] Chief minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday raised pitch for vacation of security forces from the highlands of Kargil
... three months of unprovoked Pak aggression, over 4000 dead Paks, another victory for India ...
to allow the town to expand and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help in starting the commercial air service from there.

"Kargil town is fast expanding and needs land to set up houses. I seek the Prime Minister's support for providing the part of Khurbathong Plateau. The army can utilise whatever portion of the plateau it requires and rest can be provided for expansion," said Abdullah, who made his speech in chaste Urdu.

He also asked the visiting Prime Minister to provide full support for expediting work on the Zojila tunnel, which will act as all-weather road for the region to stay connected with Kashmire and the rest of the country.

"The only connectivity of the area with the rest of the country is through the airlines, but Kargil district is still bereft of this facility and the most costly tickets debar general population of Leh to travel outside the area during winters. Next time, when the PM visits Kargil, it should not be a military plane but his own plane landing here. A commercial airline service is required too," he added.

Corps commanders satisfied with NWA operation
[DAWN] At a meeting that lasted several hours on Monday, top commanders of the Pakistain Army vowed to not allow bully boyz to regroup or return to areas where the military has been carrying out an operation against terrorist elements.

Presiding over the Corps Commanders' meeting at the General Headquarters (GHQ) today, Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif expressed complete satisfaction over progress made so far in Operation Zarb-e-Azb

Commanders were given a detailed briefing on the ongoing operation and the overall security situation in the country.

The army chief lauded the courage and sacrifices of the troops, and emphasised on the need to consolidate operational gains made so far in the operation.

The army chief also expressed the hope that operational gains would be backed up by long term counter-terrorism and counter-extremism measures by concerned stakeholders.

"No stone (should) be left unturned to assist IDPs during their stay outside and in their early return to their homes," he was also quoted as saying.

The meeting was held at a time when Nawaz Sharif is under immense pressure to step down over alleged corruption and election rigging. Speculations are rife in the country about an impending political change.

Who is orchestrating long marches, questions Nawaz Sharif
[DAWN] In a speech that addressed the ongoing political crisis in the currently, the prime minister on Monday asked who is behind the calls for revolutions and marches in the country.

"I can't help but laugh at the agendas of these long marches," Nawaz Sharif said, indirectly referring to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

"It hurts and confuses me — who has given them these agendas?"

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was speaking at an event organised for the launch of his economic 'Vision 2025', which became an opportunity for the government to discuss the ongoing political crisis.

The government has accused "Musharraf's friends" of being behind the political chaos in the country, with PTI and PAT leaders Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri calling for the prime minister to step down with a march on August 14.

In a veiled reference to former military ruler General (retired) Musharraf, Nawaz asked why those who invited the war on terror into Pakistan were not held accountable.

"Have we not learned lessons from what this country has suffered? The constitution has been uprooted, rule of law has been flouted ... we suffered billion of dollars in losses [as a result of Pakistan's involvement]. Who sowed the seeds of terrorism?" he asked.

"Who is going to hold them accountable?"

Islamabad district administration says 'no' to PTI march

...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI), the Islamabad district administration on Monday refused to allow the Azadi March in Islamabad. The letter cited the imposition of Section 144 - which prohibits all public gatherings of five or more persons - in the capital as the reason for refusal.

The letter, written by Deputy Commissioner Mujahid Sherdil, states:

"This is with reference to the open source information regarding rally of PTI at ICT scheduled for 14th August, 2014. It is intimated that due to precarious security environment, under section 144 CRPC imposed in Islamabad Capital Territory, all public gatherings and rallies are banned.

Therefore any public event requires prior coordination and permission for necessary security arrangements and relaxation of section 144 Cr. P.C from the District Magistrate of ICT. So far ICT administration have neither received any request from PTI to hold any public event in ICT nor has such a permission being given under the law."

Haq further said that Khan has assured him that he will not take any unconstitutional or illegal steps. Haq further stressed the government must not take any steps that will lead towards martial law.

"There was rigging in the elections and Imran Khan has ample proof. The Election Commission of Pakistain and Justice (retd) Fakhuruddin G Ibrhaim failed to carry out their responsibilities," the JI ameer said.

He further clarified that he wasn't a messenger from the government's side.

"The country is passing through a difficult time and all parties must work together to get out of this situation," Haq said.

Aitzaz warns govt and 'revolutionaries' against violence
[DAWN] Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Senator Aitzaz Ahsan on Monday warned the federal government and Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) chief Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
not to take any violent course of action.

Aitzaz Ahsan said that the PTI leader had been approached through several avenues in order to diffuse the rising tensions, including recounting of votes, but it had been in vain which was most regrettable.

The opposition leader said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
has no need to worry because Parliament is standing by the government.

Aitzaz said that the prime minister should not create obstacles for peaceful protestors.

"Revolutions are always non-violent
Just ask Robespierre. I'm sure the Tsar's family will back him up...
so the revolution as announced by Pakistain Awami Tehrik (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri
...Pak politician, and would-be dictator, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran and Pakistain Awami Tehrik. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him...
cannot be genuine in light of his statements against the police," he said.

Aitzaz added that if any untoward incident took place, the government will not be blamed rather Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri would be held responsible.

Iraqi PM-designate Wins Support of US, Iran

International backing grew for Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Haider al-Abadi, picked Monday to form a new government in Baghdad.

The United States, Saudi Arabia and Iran have also voiced new support for Abadi, countering incumbent Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's push to extend his eight-year rule with a third term.

Maliki Seems to Back Away From Using Military Force to Retain Power
[NY Times] After two days of defiance and the deployment of special security units around the Iraqi capital that raised the specter of a coup, Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki on Tuesday appeared to back away from his implied threat of using military force to secure his power by saying the army should stay out of politics.

On Monday, Iraq's president nominated a candidate to replace Mr. Maliki, who then challenged the decision by saying it was unconstitutional. On Tuesday, Mr. Maliki backed down, at least rhetorically, from his intransigence in the face of growing opposition to his rule.

Iran, a longtime supporter of Mr. Maliki, also lent its weight on Tuesday to the constitutional process of replacing him with the new candidate, Haider al-Abadi, adding pressure on Mr. Maliki to retreat from his threats. The secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, congratulated Mr. Abadi during a meeting of Iranian ambassadors, the official Islamic Theocratic Republic News Agency reported.

The B.O. regime, which has deployed United States warplanes to help the Iraqi government battle a marauding force of Sunni bully boyz in northern and western Iraq, has also been pressuring Mr. Maliki to move aside. President B.O. and his top aide congratulated Mr. Abadi on Monday and exhorted him to quickly form an inclusive government that would depart from Mr. Maliki's polarizing policies, which have alienated many in the Sunni and Kurd minorities.

Mr. Maliki's office released a statement on his website that said: "Prime Minister Maliki urges commanders, officers and individuals to stay away from the political crisis and to commit to their military and security duties and tasks to protect the country, and not to intervene in this crisis. Leave this issue to the people, politicians and justice."

Shortly after the statement was released, Mr. Maliki appeared on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
, sitting around a table with his military commanders, where he delivered the same message.

Mr. Maliki did not back away from the threat of a legal challenge to the nomination of Mr. Abadi, a politician from Mr. Maliki's own Shiite Islamist Dawa Party.

But any legal challenge — which would be based on Mr. Maliki's contention that he has a legal right to the first attempt at forming a new government, because his bloc won the most seats in April's national elections — is considered quixotic, because he has lost much of the support within his own party.

EU urged to join US in arming Kurds against Islamic State
[ARABNEWS] As the United States confirmed on Monday that it has begun urgently shipping arms and ammunition to the Iraqi Kurdish forces battling an advance by Death Eater Islamic State (IS) krazed killers, La Belle France called on the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
to do the same.

"It is crucial that the European Union mobilizes from today to respond to this appeal (by Kurds) for help," French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said in a letter to EU foreign affairs supremo Catherine Ashton.

Fabius, who has just returned from a trip to Iraq where he met Iraqi Kurdish president Massud Barzani, explained that the latter had stressed "the urgent need for weapons and ammunition that would allow them to confront and beat the terrorist group Islamic State."

La Belle France and Britannia have pledged support for a US-led operation helping Iraqi civilians — many of them from the Yazidi minority — who are fleeing a deadly advance by IS krazed killers.

While all three Western countries are providing emergency aid for the besieged civilians, the United States has also been conducting air strikes on IS positions.

On Monday, a US State Department spokeswoman said Washington has also started sending weapons to Kurdish fighters.

"We're working with the government of Iraq to increasingly and very quickly get urgently needed arms to the Kurds," Marie Harf told CNN.

"This includes the Iraqis providing their own weapons from their own stocks, and we're working to do the same thing from our stocks of weapons that we have."

Harf said the effort had been underway since last week, but did not say which US agency was leading the effort or how many and what type of weapons had been sent.

The United States has a consulate and other facilities in Arbil, capital of Iraq's Kurdish autonomous region, and last week President Barack Obama
I've now been in 57 states -- I think one left to go...
announced air strikes to protect the city from the IS advance.

Efforts to support Kurdish peshmerga forces could complicated the United States' ties to the Iraqi government in Baghdad, which is also fighting the Islamic State but has tense relations with Arbil.

But Harf insisted that, in the current crisis, the two are working together.

"We have seen an unprecedented level of cooperation between the Iraqi forces and the Kurdish forces. We hadn't seen that in the past. They're helping each other out," Harf said.

"So any way we can get the very urgently needed arms to the Kurds we are actively working on," she said.

"We'll work with the government of Iraq to do that, but we believe again there is such an urgent situation that we need to do this."

Fabius reiterated his call for "all the politicians in Iraq to hold talks to find a quick political solution that is acceptable to all parts of the country."

Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini also called earlier on Monday for a special EU meeting to discuss "Iraq, Gazoo and Libya, three crises which concern Europe directly."

"We're not talking about military intervention but providing support, even of a military sort, to the Kurdish government," Mogherini said.

#1  The government in Baghdad represents only the government in Baghdad. Not the nation as a whole, not the Kurds, and not the Sunnis whom they have driven over into ISIS hands.

When will the state Dept give up on that illusion that never really existed without US troops there as a unifying force? Bremer followed by Obama. what a disaster. Thats what happens when the State Department runs what should be a military operation (Occupation & rebuild)

Korea. If we'd stuck with Iraq we would one day have a Federated Republic of Iraq that would be first-world, stable, prosperous, and democratic. Might have taken 50 years. But it's just the sort of long-term investment in our global vision that we should have made.

Because it was an uncomfortable truthy. The electorate wasn't really willing to commit to a 50-year war with the jihadis, even after 9/11.

Jerry Pournelle was pointing that success would take a very long time, at least by 2003 if not earlier, but he doesn't count. I have been saying similar things since 2003, on the 'Burg and elsewhere, but rarely get any answer/comment to my posts one way or the other. I don't count either, I'm just a poorly informed voter / civilian, who has been reading up on this stuff since about 1956 & the Hungarian uprising. I started reading more about Islam & jihad when the old USSR invaded Afghanistan about 1979.

Maliki's Dawa Party rejects new Iraqi PM
[Iran Press TV] The incumbent Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki
... Prime Minister of Iraq and the secretary-general of the Islamic Dawa Party. Maliki imposed order on Basra wen the Shiites were going nuts, but has proven incapable of dealing with al-Qaeda's Sunni insurgency. Reelected to his third term in 2014...
's Dawa Party has dismissed the nomination of Haider al-Abadi as the country's new premier.

The party said in a statement on Monday that al-Maliki's State of Law Coalition holds the majority of seats in parliament and only accepts him as the nominee for premier's post.

Reading the statement on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
, Khalaf Abdul-Samad, a member of Dawa Party, said al-Abadi "only represents himself."

Earlier on Monday, Iraq's new President Fouad Massoum asked the deputy parliament speaker to form the new government.

Al-Abadi was nominated for the post by the Iraqi National Alliance, a coalition of Shia parties.

The nomination came after al-Maliki threatened legal action against Massoum for his failure to name a premier from the State of Law coalition by August 10 deadline.

"I will submit today an official complaint to the federal court against the President of the Republic for committing a clear constitutional violation for the sake of political calculations," Maliki said on Sunday.

He further noted that he would not give in to pressure to drop his bid for a third term in office.

Al-Maliki's son-in-law, Hussein al-Maliki, also said on Monday, "We will not stay silent," adding, "The nomination is illegal and a breach of the constitution. We will go to the federal court to object."

Abadi, a Shia politician, was born in the capital, Baghdad, in 1952, and returned from British exile after the fall of former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, in 2003.

US strikes against ISIL false show: Iran MP
[Iran Press TV] The United States' record of support for terrorist groups in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan belies its recent military strikes against Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
ISIL murderous Moslems as only "posturing," a senior Iranian politician says.

"The Americans, who strengthened terrorist groups in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, are putting on a show in dealing with the ISIL instead of [taking] serious action," Chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said.

He added that the US is carrying out Arclight airstrikes against the ISIL gunnies to show that "it has a role to play in the region."

Iran does not welcome such posturing by Washington, the politician said, adding, "Such intervention will certainly bring no benefit to Iraq and the region."

US President Barack Obama
They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them...
authorized on Thursday the use of targeted Arclight airstrikes to prevent the advance of ISIL gunnies in Iraq and to protect American personnel and interests inside the country.

Just hours after President B.O.'s authorization of "targeted Arclight airstrikes," US fighter jets and drones repeatedly bombed Takfiri ISIL murderous Moslems in northern Iraq.

White House front man Josh Earnest told news hounds on Friday that the recent launch of US military strikes against the ISIL gunnies in Iraq do not have a "specific end date."

This is while the US has been providing arms and training to murderous Moslem groups in Syria to fight the government of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel suffered ignominious defeat in Gaza: Iran
[Iran Press TV] Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has slammed the Israeli regime's military onslaught against Paleostinians in Gazoo, saying the Tel Aviv regime suffered a humiliating defeat in the besieged Paleostinian territory.

Addressing a gathering of Iranian ambassadors and envoys overseas in Tehran on Monday, President Rouhani said Israel's crimes against the Paleostinian people were so atrocious that even some of its supporters fell short of backing the regime.

The Israeli war on the Gazoo Strip began on July 8. According to Paleostinian health officials, the overall Paleostinian corpse count has reached nearly 1,940, with most of the fatalities being civilians. Nearly 10,000 others have also been maimed in the attacks.

The Israeli military says 3 Israeli civilians and 64 soldiers have been killed in the conflict, but Paleostinian resistance movement Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, puts the fatalities at more than 150.

The conference was intended to discuss lessons that could be taken from Operation Protective Edge in the south and applied to the security situation in the north as well as to "address recent reports in the media regarding tunnels on the Leb border."

General Golan assured the leaders of the northern communities that while tunnels were not currently the main threat being considered from Hezbollah, lessons had been learned within the military as a result of Operation Protective Edge and the IDF would be prepared to meet such a threat if needed.

The IDF destroyed a total of 32 tunnels along the Gazoo border during Protective Edge amid terrorist attacks in which Hamas faceless myrmidons were able to infiltrate Israeli territory undetected through the tunnels.

Hamas has reportedly spent the last five years constructing the tunnel infrastructure needed to carry out such attacks and fear has been steadily growing in the north that Hezbollah may have been doing exactly the same.

Foreign Media Protest Hamas Harassment in Gaza
[AnNahar] The Foreign Press Association on Monday lodged a strong protest accusing the Paleostinian Islamist group Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, of harassment and of threatening foreign news hounds working in Gazoo.

The association for journalists working in Israel and the Paleostinian territories said Hamas authorities and their representatives employed "blatant, incessant, forceful and unorthodox methods" against visiting international journalists covering the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gazoo.

The FPA, in a statement, protested "in the strongest terms".

"The international media are not advocacy organizations and cannot be prevented from reporting by means of threats or pressure, thereby denying their readers and viewers an objective picture from the ground," it said.

"In several cases, foreign news hounds working in Gazoo have been harassed, threatened or questioned over stories or information they have reported through their news media or by means of social media."

Hundreds of foreign journalists traveled to Gazoo during more than a month of fighting between Israel and the Hamas, with perhaps 10 percent reporting difficulties from the authorities, FPA said.

Those who experienced threats were reluctant to speak publicly for fear of repercussions.

It said one photographer spoke of being beaten up and having a camera smashed; a news photographer had a camera confiscated for three days and Hamas also asked people to remove tweets and YouTube videos.

A European company was also threatened in the middle of the street when filming an anti-Hamas demonstration.

The FPA said Hamas was also trying to put in place a "vetting" procedure that would, in effect, allow for the blacklisting of specific journalists.

"Such a procedure is vehemently opposed by the FPA," it said.

Several news organizations reported receiving a request Monday from Hamas for the name of journalists, their company, where they are based, their contact details and the name of their translator to "facilitate and organize" their work.

#1  Western media will do the same thing during next round of fighting. These hypocrites have already done their dirty work by constantly showing pictures of wounded dead babies and elderly women. Anyone looking at the MSM would think no men live in Gaza... much less Hamas fighters.

Olde Tyme Religion
Vatican to Muslim leaders: Condemn Iraq barbarity
[OMAHA] The Vatican is urging Mohammedan leaders to denounce the "barbarity" of the Islamic State's attacks against Christians and other minorities in Iraq, saying their credibility is on the line.

The Vatican's Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, the main Vatican office that deals with the Mohammedan world, said Tuesday that the forced expulsions and massacres of Christians and minority Yazidis shamed humanity and couldn't be justified by any religion.

The office said the "unspeakable criminal acts" — the beheading, crucifying and hanging of bodies in public places, the "barbaric practice of infibulation," the abduction of women and girls as spoils of war, and the destruction of Christian religious symbols — required a "clear and courageous stance on the part of religious leaders, especially Mohammedans."

"If not, what credibility will religions, their followers and their leaders have?" the statement warned.

Pope Francis has stepped up his denunciation of the attacks against Christians. He has also sent a personal envoy, Cardinal Fernando Filoni, to the region to show solidarity with the victims, provide them with emergency funding and meet with Iraqi and Kurdish leaders. The Fides missionary news agency said Filoni was heading to Iraq via Jordan on Tuesday.
