Afghan government fully endorses Ulemas declaration in Indonesia
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan government declared full support to the declaration of the religious scholars issued at the end of the religious conference in Indonesia on Friday.

The Office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement said the Afghan government welcomes the stance, clarification, and decision of the religious scholars declared by the Ulemas and urges the Ulemas of the other Islamic countries to play their roles to end terrorism, extremism, and help in maintaining peace and stability.

The statement further adds that the Afghan government thanks the Indonesian government, president, and people for hosting the conference and hails the Pak Ulemas for their participation in the conference.

ARG Palace also added that the Afghan government believes that such conferences will help to end the undeclared war on Afghanistan and maintain regional peace and stability.

The Afghan government also considers the role of the Ulemas as vital in peace and stability and thanks the religious scholars of the three countries for their participation in the conference in Indonesia, the statement added.

The statement also added that peace and reconciliation remains a priority considering the demands of the Afghan nation and invites the Ulemas, influential figures, civil activists, and women to play their role in peace and reconciliation efforts and encourage the hard boyz to participate in intra-Afghan peace talks.

US Reviews Somalia Raid After Five Civilian Deaths
[RADIOSHABELLE] The US military’s Africa Command said Friday it is reviewing a Somali-led raid after locals reported that five civilians had been rubbed out.

"We are aware of reports alleging civilian casualties resulting from this operation, and we take these reports seriously," AFRICOM said in a statement.

"Africa Command will review any information it has about the incident, including any relevant information provided by third parties."

US forces, in an advise-and-assist capacity, partnered with Somali forces in a raid targeting Islamic al-Qaeda turbans aligned with the Shabaab group on Wednesday night.

Ali Mohammed Moalin, a traditional elder close to Afgoye in Lower Shabelle where the raid took place, said "two military helicopters" were involved as well as "some foreign special forces."

"There are five dead bodies of innocent farmers who have been killed by the special forces last night," Moalin said.

"Several other people were maimed, and three others were taken alive in the helicopters," he said, a claim that could not be immediately verified.

If AFRICOM determines information supporting the allegations are deemed credible, it "will determine the next appropriate step."

Senior US Navy SEAL Leaders In Africa Suspended Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct
[RADIOSHABELLE] The commander and the senior enlisted adviser of a US Navy SEAL Team deployed to Africa have been relieved of their duties and sent home due to sexual misconduct allegations regarding multiple fellow US military female service members, a US defense official tells CNN.

"Special Operations Command Africa commander Maj. Gen. Mark Hicks suspended the Special Operations Command Forward ‐ East Africa commander and senior enlisted adviser of their duties on May 10 due to allegations of misconduct," Maj. Casey Osborne, a front man for Special Operations Command Africa, told CNN.

"Gen. Hicks directed both individuals to return to their home station for further adjudication regarding the allegations," Osborne added, while not specifying the nature of the allegations.

Many of the Navy SEALs in East Africa conduct operations in Somalia, where they advise Somali forces battling al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
, the local affiliate of al Qaeda.

The two Navy SEALs are being investigated by the Navy’s Criminal Investigative Service.

"A commanding officer and command master chief assigned to an East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit have been relieved of their duties overseas due to alleged misconduct," Lt. Jacqui Maxwell, a spokesperson for Naval Special Warfare Group TWO, told CNN.

"Naval Special Warfare and NCIS have initiated investigations as appropriate," she added.

A spokesperson for NCIS did not immediately respond to questions from CNN about the investigation.

ABC was first to report the allegations.

News of the investigation comes as Special Operations Forces in Africa have come under increasing scrutiny.

Earlier on Friday US Africa Command, which oversees US military operations on the continent, issued a statement saying it was reviewing allegations that civilian casualties had been caused during a May 9 "Somali-led operation to disrupt and degrade al-Shabaab’s terrorist network near Bulcida, Somalia."

Kosovo moves to deradicalize jailed jihadists
[IsraelTimes] Minister says he hopes classes by moderate imams will teach imprisoned fighters 'about the dangers of religious radicalism'

Kosovo launched Friday a program aimed at de-radicalizing its jugged

jihadists, including lectures in prisons by moderate imams.

More than 90 percent of Kosovo’s 1.8 million inhabitants are Moslems who practice a moderate form of Islam.

But over the past few years more than 300 Kosovo nationals have gone to join jihadists fighting in Syria and Iraq. About 50 of them have been killed.

It is believed that they fell under the influence of a group of local imams educated in Arab countries that practice a radical interpretation of Islam.

Of the 100 or so jihadists who have returned to Kosovo, around 80 are currently being detained, either found guilty of crimes or awaiting trial.

The justice ministry said Friday it had reached a deal with the Islamic Community of Kosovo (BIK) which will allow moderate imams to give the detainees religious classes.

"I am convinced that organizing of religious lectures for prisoners will increase awareness among them about the dangers of religious radicalism," Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri said.

A total of 20 imams have been selected for the task after having passed a security check.

Lira slumps after Erdogan says interest rates ‘evil’
[DAWN] President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
on Friday declared that interest rates were the "mother and father of all evil", a controversial comment that prompted a sharp loss in value of the Ottoman Turkish lira.

Erdogan, who is campaigning for snap parliamentary and presidential elections on June 24, has repeatedly urged the central bank to cut interest rates to stimulate economic growth.

But economists have cautioned that a tighter monetary policy is needed for an economy whose currency has lost over 12 per cent in value in the last three months and where inflation is running at 10.85pc.

"Interest rates are the mother and father of all evil," Erdogan said in a televised speech in Ankara. "Interest rates are the cause of inflation."

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
’s late liquidity window (LLW) interest rate stands at 13.5pc after a 75 basis points hike in April.

Noting the extremely low rates in the US, eurozone and Japan, Erdogan added: "We must bring down interest rates." Erdogan’s statements fly in the face of economic orthodoxy where interest rates are used by central banks around the world as a tool to keep down inflation.

Maulana Abdul Aziz not allowed to lead Friday prayers
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: The capital administration held five rounds of discussions with deposed holy man of Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
Maulana Abdul Aziz
...nutball holy man who runs the Lal Masjid in the heart of Pakistain's capital. After instigating a rebellion against the state in 2007, he was caught trying to sneak away dressed in a burka. He rejects democracy as un-Islamic, which it probably is...
and did not allow him to lead Friday prayers and deliver the weekly sermon in the mosque.

The last round of talks between the administration and the holy man started on Friday morning and concluded less than an hour before the prayers.

Scores of women clad in black burqas with some of them carrying sticks gazed down at the streets from the windows and rooftops of the new Jamia Hafsa
... the Islamic nunnery maintained by Lal Masjid....

Iraq: Baghdad votes in first parliamentary election since IS defeat
[ALMASDARNEWS] Iraqis headed to the polls on Saturday in their first parliamentary election since victory was declared over the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS; formerly ISIS, ISIS), footage filmed in the Omar Mukhtar electoral centre in Baghdad shows.

One local described how they attempted to arrive early to avoid crowds, but found it to be busy already, which she described as ’very promising.’

"We want Iraq to change completely, everything needs absolute change. This is what we want, real elections," she added.

The election is the fourth to take place since former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was tossed in 2003, and is the first to be conducted electronically in an attempt to combat voter fraud.

Polls close in Iraq's 2018 parliamentary election, Rudaw liveblogging results as they come in

[Rudaw] Polls have closed in Iraq’s parliamentary elections that saw turnout that was at historic lows in the post-Saddam Hussein Iraq. The election was marred by allegations of voter fraud, particularly in the Kurdistan Region and disputed areas.

The western world, however, reacted positively to the vote that went ahead with a few security incidents. Nine Federal Police were killed in an attack in Kirkuk province.

Official results will be released within a few days.

Marines said sent to US legations in Mideast ahead of Jerusalem embassy opening
Just in case. But even if certain countries’ ambassadors aren’t there, it will still be a fabulous party
[IsraelTimes] CNN reports State Department has been working for weeks to bolster security at US diplomatic posts around Moslem world

The US has dispatched Marines to bolster security at US diplomatic facilities around the Middle East, Hadashot TV news reported Saturday citing a CNN report, two days ahead of the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem.

The deployment of Marines, the Israeli TV report said, came because of fears of disturbances related to the opening of the embassy. For weeks, thousands of Gazooks have been protesting at the border with Israel, encouraged by Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, the terror group that rules the Strip, whose leaders have vowed to ratchet up protests to coincide with the embassy opening.

Israel doubling troop deployments ahead of US embassy opening
[PRESSTV] The Israeli military has announced that it will be doubling the number of forces around the Gazoo Strip and in occupied West Bank territories ahead of the controversial opening of a US embassy in Jerusalem al-Quds.

An Israeli army spokesperson on Saturday said that three additional infantry brigades will be deployed ahead of the embassy's opening, two surrounding the Gazoo Strip and one in the West Bank.

He added that the fresh additions will be nearly twice as many as the number of troops currently deployed.

The spokesperson noted that the number of troops in Jerusalem will not change, as responding to protests is the responsibility of the police.

US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has announced that he will not be taking part in the opening ceremony in al-Quds on Monday, but his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner will be present.

Hundreds of thousands of Paleostinians are expected to hold massive protests along the fence between the Gazoo Strip and the occupied territories on the day of the US embassy relocation. The rally, which will cap several weeks of deadly protests in the coastal enclave, coincides with the 70th anniversary of Nakba Day (Day of Catastrophe), when Israel was created in 1948.

At least 52 unarmed Paleostinian protesters have been killed by Israeli live fire since the protests began on March 30.

Earlier in the day, thousands of protesters in Jordan, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
and Indonesia staged rallies to condemn the US decision to relocate its Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
File under trees falling in the forest: does anyone other than the local police care about protesters in Jordan, Turkey, or Indonesia?

Trolling Trump, Iran’s Khamenei poses with White House exposé ‘Fire and Fury’
[IsraelTimes] Days after US withdraws from nuclear deal, ayatollah leafs through bestseller that brands president unstable and unfit for office

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei trolled US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
by posing for a photograph reading a Persian translation of the book "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House."

Khamenei then had the photograph posted on his Instagram page.

Khamenei picked up the book while on a tour of a Tehran book fair on Friday.

The post had garnered nearly 126,000 likes by Saturday evening.

Michael Wolff’s book, published in January, has been a runaway bestseller and infuriated Trump. The president sought to block its publication.

Trump tweeted when it was released that the instant bestseller ‐ which paints him as disengaged, ill-informed, and unstable, with signs of serious memory loss ‐ was a "Fake Book, written by a totally discredited author."

Trump has also described the book as "a work of fiction."

Wolff defended his scathing portrayal of the US president and said "one hundred percent" of those around him questioned his fitness for office.

Khamenei posted the image days after Trump quit the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran. Khamenei has warned that Tehran will also withdraw from the accord, which was designed to rein in Iran’s rogue nuclear weapons program, unless European signatories offer solid guarantees that trade relations will continue after the US withdrawal, and slammed Trump over the move.

In comments on Wednesday, Khamenei derided the US president, saying, "You cannot do a damn thing!"

Khamenei described Trump’s speech Tuesday night, announcing the US was quitting the deal, as having "over 10 lies," without elaborating. He also said Trump’s remarks, which he described as "silly and superficial," threatened Iran’s people and its government.

US to lose most from JCPOA withdrawal: Fearless Leader's aide
[PRESSTV] A senior advisor to Fearless Leader of the Islamic Revolution
...Iran's doddering head theocrat...
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei
...the successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the actual dictator of Iran...
says the United States stands to suffer the most after its move to withdraw from a multilateral nuclear deal signed between Iran and major world powers in 2015.

Ali Akbar Velayati, the Leader's advisor on international affairs, made the remarks while speaking to news hounds following a meeting with Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in Tehran on Saturday, a few days after US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
defied protests and last-minute lobbying by his European partners and unilaterally decided to withdraw from the historic nuclear accord, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and impose new sanctions on Tehran.

Daesh, US weapon of choice against region security: Iran
[PRESSTV] Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami says the emergence and expansion of the ISIS Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
terrorist group in Afghanistan is a "very dangerous phenomenon," expressing Tehran's readiness to cooperate with Kabul in the fight against terrorism.

"We regard ISIS as the security tool of the US and hegemonic powers to create insecurity in the region. So, the eradication of ISIS is among the policies of the government and Armed Forces of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran," Hatami said in a meeting with Afghan Defense Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami in Tehran on Saturday.

"We believe that Afghanistan should not turn into a place for regional and international rivalries, rather it should be a center for regional cooperation," he added.

He noted that Fearless Leader of the Islamic Revolution
...Iran's doddering head theocrat...
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei
...the successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the actual dictator of Iran...
and the Iranian government have always stressed the importance of bolstering cooperation with Afghanistan in all political, economic, cultural, security, defense and military fields.

Late in January, Ayatollah Khamenei said the United States has been relocating ISIS from the Middle East to the South Asian country to rationalize its military presence in the region.

Syria: Evacuees stuck near al-Bab plead for help
[Al Jazeera] At least 2,000 people are stuck near the al-Bab district of Aleppo in Syria for the fifth consecutive day after departing towns in southern Damascus following an evacuation deal, activists told Al Jazeera.

Among the evacuees are rebels and their families, who were in control of Yalda, Babbila and Beit Sahem - towns that have been reclaimed by Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

's forces.

The evacuations came in stages after government forces launched a fierce push to retake the area from rebel groups Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
and Hay'et Tahrir al-Sham
last month.

Since April 19, government forces backed by Russian fighter jets have also been attempting to push out ISIS fighters from the Paleostinian refugee camp of Yarmouk, which has been under siege since 2012.

The towns and the camp lie a few kilometres from central Damascus, where Assad's government resides.

Though evacuations started a few days following the south Damascus offensive, more have been taking place over the past weeks, with rebels groups surrendering pockets across the area.

Under the deal, the opposition agreed to surrender medium to heavy military hardware in exchange for safe passage.

Israeli attack in Syria allegedly killed 11 Iranian soldiers: monitor
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Israeli attack that was carried out earlier this week resulted in the death of several Iranian soldiers, the pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) alleged on Saturday.

According to the direct of the SOHR Rami ’Abdel-Rahman, "at least 27 pro-regime fighters were killed" during the Israeli attack, including 11 Iranians.

While SOHR makes these claims, the Syrian military has only released the names of four soldiers that were killed during the Israeli attack earlier this week.

Iran has not confirmed the report by the SOHR regarding the death of these Iranian military personnel.

Pentagon to keep backing Lebanon military, despite Hezbollah gains
That’s an easy way to get mailing lists of Hizb’allah members in the Lebanese army, I suppose.
[Ynet] The US military is committed to supporting and providing assistance to the Lebanese armed forces, the Pentagon said on Friday, despite the Iran-backed Hezbollah group and its allies making significant gains in parliamentary election

"The United States remains committed to supporting Leb's illusory sovereignty, stability, security, and its state institutions, to include

the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) as the professional, multi-confessional and sole legitimate armed forces of the Lebanese state," Lieutenant Commander Rebecca Rebarich, a Pentagon spokeswoman, told Rooters in a statement.

"Strengthening the US-Leb defense relationship is all the more important in light of the continuing threats emanating from Syria, including continued ISIS challenges and Iranian aggression," Rebarich said.

She added that the United States and Leb shared a goal of building the Lebanese armed forces' capacity as "the sole legitimate defender of Leb's illusory sovereignty."
