-Lurid Crime Tales-
Liberal Ex-Congressman Has ‘Given Up on America' After Third Conviction
[Breitbart] Former Democratic congressman Mel Reynolds says that he has "given up on America" and will move to Africa after he serves his latest prison sentence.

But Mel Reynolds was not the only one with things to say about this latest conviction for failing to file tax returns on more than $400,000 he received in consultant fees. "It’s a tragedy that you squandered the opportunities you had and the type of person you could have become," federal Judge Robert Gettleman scolded him in court.

Reynolds represented Illinois’ 2nd Congressional District from January 1993 to October 1995. That is when he was convicted of the statutory rape of a 16-year-old worker in his campaign. Later, he was also convicted of funneling money for voter registration drives into his campaign and concealing various debts.

The former congressman acted as his own defense and argued that his prior convictions should not be counted against him in the sentencing. "The question is," Reynolds asked, "how long does a person have to pay for mistakes?" He also attempted to contrast his misdeeds with his time in the military and fathering three children.

"how long does a person have to pay for mistakes?"

Slavery ended over a hundred years ago, I don't see a let up in condemning others many generations separated from that period.

Dearlove Connections – UK Intel Firm Hakluyt, Alexander Downer, Stefan Halper & Papadopoulos
[themarketswork] This post owes a debt to three sources:

@MsTrial and her March 18, 2018 Thread.
A March 25, 2018 article by the Daily Caller’s Chuck Ross.
@JohnWHuber for details added in his excellent May 8, 2018 Thread.

Note: For a detailed sequencing of events see, Ties That Bind ‐ Stefan Halper, Joseph Mifsud & Alexander Downer (& Papadopoulos). Posts are complimentary.

We’ve been postulating that foreign intelligence ‐ primarily from the UK ‐ was used by CIA Director Brennan to initiate the FBI’s July 2016 Counterintelligence Investigation and push the Russia Narrative.

Thanks to the work cited above, some details regarding a very private UK Intelligence firm have surfaced.

Hakluyt is British strategic intelligence and advisory firm. It was founded by former MI6 members and retains close ties to UK Intelligence services.

In the small circular world of professional spooks, Hakluyt has ties with three unexpected individuals:

Australian diplomat Alexander Downer. Stefan Halper, a former policy advisor to Nixon, Ford and Reagan.

George Papadopoulos Alexander Downer famously met with George Papadopoulos at a London Bar in May 2016. This meeting would be used by the FBI as their excuse behind opening the July 2016 Counterintelligence Investigation.

#5  I suspect Mr. Halper will be pulling a Christopher Steele any day now. No one will know when he left or where he's at.

Halper may not have been the only 'source' employed by Brennan and his colleagues in the London SIS Building.

I'm still curious about Mr. Carter Page. Was he a witting, Deep State collaborator, or an unwitting target drone ?

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Mercer at Townhall: Texas Vs. The Pacific Coast: Explaining The Yankee Mindset
[Townhall] I recently traveled to Texas to speak about South Africa, at the Free Speech Forum of the Texas A & M University.

To travel from the Pacific Northwest all the way to College Station, Texas, without experiencing more of the "Lone Star State" was not an option.

So, after driving from Austin eastward to College Station (where I was hosted by two exceptional young, Southern gentlemen), I headed south-west to San Antonio. There I lingered long enough to conclude:

The Republic of Texas is a civilization apart.

Ordinary Texans‐from my brief travels‐tend to be sunny, kind and warmhearted. Not once did I encounter rude on my Texas junket.

On the Pacific Coast, however, kindness and congeniality don't come naturally. Washington-State statists are generally aloof, opprobrious, insular. And, frankly, dour.

#7  Texans have a "code of conduct" that is not understood or by many outside the region. Actually that code is demonized by outside the region. Love your neighbor is one of them. Includes love your enemy. Words like honor, work - not only being strong enough to provide for yourself but to provide for others in need. Accountability for your wrongs is paramount. Texans know all the above bare the most fruit so like Ed in Texas alluded to, Don't mess with Texas if you don't care for it. Take 35 North back to New York.

While in San Antone enjoy the River Walk, College Station is a small town with a big University. Outside of both places deer graze right up to the edge of the road after dark. This afternoon in Austin a lot of UT students will rent a canoe for $10 and spend Sunday afternoon on Lady Bird Lake and at sunset watch millions of Mexican bats fly out from underneath Congress Avenue bridge. Lots of great Southwestern food.

Nice civilization.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
The real target of Israel’s T-4 attack: the 3rd Khordad system
[Ynet] Analysis: The Iranian aerial defense system created to mimic the Russian S-300 was destroyed before even being unpacked, and the Iranian officers killed in the T-4 Airbase strike were merely collateral damage; Quds Force's commander Qasem Soleimani sought to avenge the 3rd Khordad system's destruction by firing at Israeli bases near the border, prompting the large-scale Israeli retaliatory attack earlier this week.

A little over a month ago, on April 9, Israel bombed the T-4 Airbase in Syria. seven Iranians were killed in the attack, including a senior officer, but now it appears they were never the target.

The target of the strike was, in fact, the "3rd Khordad" (Khordad is the third month of the Iranian calendar‐ed) aerial defense system, an Iranian stand-in for the S-300 system Russia stalled on providing the Islamic republic.

The 3d Khordad is one of four variants of the Raad aerial defense system, equipped with Taer-2B missiles and a phased array radar.

Once the system was unloaded off of an Iranian transport plane on the Syrian T-4 base, it was destroyed before even being unpacked.

The 3rd Khordad system, developed and manufactured by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)'s military industries, was seemingly a copy of the aforementioned Russian S-300‐a system capable of intercepting not only planes but also missiles, rockets, cruise missiles and drones deep within Israeli territory.

Israel could not independently verify the new system's efficacy, but Iran's own publications spoke volumes. It was first publicized in 2014 by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iranians believed it was a tie-breaking system. Another matter attesting to its importance was the fact that senior IRGC officials stood by as it was being unpacked. Its destruction, and the subsequent deaths of Iranian officers, most likely led commander of the IRGC's elite Quds Force unit Qasem Soleimani to the decision to exact vengeance on Israel.

The aerial defense system seems to have been brought to the region by the Iranians after a different failure of theirs‐the Israeli interception of an explosive drone in early February.

The drone was sent out, in fact, as an operational test for a device created using reverse engineering‐imitating an American stealth drone that was downed in Iranian territory.

After that interception, Israel destroyed the control trailer in the T-4 base from which the drone was launched. This, in turn, made the Iranians realize their dire need of an aerial defense system of their own to protect them from both the aircraft and missiles Israel was using to bombard their Syria installations.

Israel thus decided to take the 3rd Khordad system off the table before the Iranians ever had a chance of testing it, just as they failed in their stealth drone test earlier this year.

According to an Iranian publication from 2014, the system was developed over the course of 18 months and could track any aerial target at a range of up to 50 kilometers.

It could also monitor and intercept fighter jets, they claimed, as well as bombers and cruise missiles at an altitude of up to 25 kilometers. IRGC said the system was comparable to the Russian S-300, and added its effective range will be increased to 100km and then to 200km.

It was not the only weapons system destroyed recently, however, going back to before Iran's shooting at the Israeli border and Israel's harsh response.

The Uragan system‐a launch vessels bearing 16 especially massive Katyusha missiles with a 220 millimeter diameter‐was targeted Monday night. That system had a range of 40km with a warhead of 70 to 100 kilograms.

A similar system was destroyed in Syria's al-Kiswah the following night, along with its launcher and missiles. That particular system was the one Soleimani planned to use to avenge the destruction of the Khordad system's destruction, making the Israeli strike preemptory.

Another launch vehicle was destroyed Wednesday evening, but only after firing either a Fajr of Grad rocket at IDF bases near the border.

#1  Are the Iranians really able to just 'copy' an advanced Russian system?

Or is "3rd Khordad" just a disguise of the Russian system that enables the Russians to deliver their weapons to various nefarious actors while maintaining more or less plausible deniability?
