Relatives Forgive Church Shooter At Hearing
Friday, two heavily armed guards behind him as he heard relatives of his nine victims bare their grief and offer forgiveness in a video court appearance where he was ordered held without bail.

"You have killed some of the most beautifulest people that I know," Felecia Sanders, mother of victim Tywanza Sanders, told Dylann Roof, speaking from the courtroom. "Every fiber in my body hurts ... May God have mercy on you."

The daughter of Ethel Lance, another of the nine victims in the Wednesday night attack at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, had a similar message for the 21-year-old alleged killer, who police believe attended a Bible study meeting at the church, where he was embraced by strangers only to open fire on them for no apparent reason.

"You hurt a lot of people," she said, "But I forgive you."

"Repent. Confess. Give your life to the one who matters the most, Christ, so he can change your ways no matter what happens to you and you'll be OK," said Anthony Thompson, who represented the family of victim Myra Thompson.

World's oldest person dead at 116: Report
[Al Ahram] The oldest known person in the world has died peacefully at her home in the United States aged 116, media reports said Thursday.
Didja ever notice that once you achieve that title "Oldest Person in the World" you're gonna be dead, probably within a year?
Jeralean Talley, who kept up her bowling hobby until the ripe-old age of 104, passed away on Wednesday in Inkster, near Detroit, the Detroit Free Press said.
"Whaddya mean, I 'got turned down for a life insurance policy?' I'm a good risk! I'm 116 years old! What were the odds I'd peg out in one o' those years?"
Friends told the newspaper that she prayed not to suffer.
"Hey! You with the actuary table! Yeah, I mean you! What were the odds I'd live longer than 78 years?"
"God certainly answered her prayer," said Michael Kinloch, her longtime friend.
"How about 88? 98?"
The deeply religious Talley was born in the southern US state of Georgia at the tail end of the nineteenth century on May 23, 1899.
"How about 108?"
"Just remember her as being a very beautiful, forgiving person," said her daughter Thelma Holloway, 77, adding that Talley had been in a hospital for a week before being brought home on Saturday.
"See? You can write me a policy to see me through 118!"
"She went away peacefully," Holloway said.
"Sure I'll consent to a medical examination! Lookidat! No rigor mortis in these limbs, by Gum!"
Talley is survived by her daughter as well as three generations of grandchildren, the newspaper said.
"Maybe I'll live through 128!"
Her husband of 52 years, Alfred Talley, died in 1988 when he was 95 years old.
"Okay! Okay! Just sign here! Then lemme alone!"
"Good! Oh, I'm so excited! I... I... [GASP!] [WHEEZE!] [COLLAPSE!]... Rosebud!

Armored vehicles have been available to citizens for a long time now. Civilian vehicles custom fitted. Hell I watched a show on TV a couple years back about how they do it. I'm sure they are not cheap, and I bet the fuel bill adds up quick, along with additional maintenance on suspension and tires, transmission, etc.

This Week In Guns, June 20th, 2015

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

As Rantburger regular SteveS and swksvolFF suggested two weeks ago, this column comes with a few trigger warnings.

A reason to hate conservative political commentary websites is when there is a shooting such as the South Carolina massacre earlier this week, writers want to bid up the notion that the crime scene was a gun free zone, which aided the shooter in killing his targets.

Allow me to discard that notion and suggest that the minister in the church rendered unto Caesar when his congregation made a conscious effort to obey gun laws. The church was a gun free zone, made so mainly by obeying unjust laws, which gun laws are by their very nature.

This weekend in Yakima in Washington state there will be a mass civil disobedience demonstration as scores of firearms owners exchange firearms, breaking the new background check law imposed by high or drunk fellow citizens.

Another demonstration took place in Oregon two weeks ago, when their legislators passed a universal background check law.

Colt goes into bankruptcy.

Mike Vandebough has a beef with Bob Owens' complaints about the open carrying of rifles. But Dean Weingarten maintains that it was those who made much of their right to open carry rifles which led to Texas' new open carry law.

To reiterate: Licensing of the privilege to carry firearms is unconstitutional and an abomination of basic civil rights. No political entity, not any state nor any city, has the right to impose fees and background checks on those who wish to carry a firearm, whether a handgun or an AR.

Imagine the pussy who carried his brand new .45 ACP Glock into a church, but upon seeing several ARs strapped to a few churchgoers rethought his plans for general mayhem.

Better yet: Try that in a rough neighborhood, if you want to start a race war. At least then you get your chance to go up against your putative enemies, who are not as squeamish about carrying a firearm without a license. You know, to see how you compare in your combat skills.

Loads.

Moroccan men jailed 4 months for kissing in public: NGOs
[Al Ahram] Two Moroccan men were tossed in the slammer
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
for four months Friday for kissing in public, after a string of recent controversies over homosexuality in the conservative Moslem kingdom, said NGO officials who attended the trial.

The men, named as Lahcen, 38, and Mohsine, 25, were convicted of an "affront to public decency" and of an "unnatural act with a person of the same sex," and also fined 500 dirhams ($52/46 euros), the sources said.

Homosexual activity is punishable in Morocco by up to three years in jail and the divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
law -- known as Article 489 -- has been the subject of several protests, including a recent topless demonstration by feminist group Femen in front of Rabat's famous Hassan Tower.

The men were incarcerated
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
on June 5 after kissing outside the tower in solidarity with the two French women, who were deported after their protest.

Morocco's General Directorate of National Security said the women had "performed an obscene sequence" and were "topless, sporting a slogan that offended public morality".

Images shared on social media showed the women embracing each other with their tops off in front of the landmark minaret.

"In gay we trust" was written in black on the torso of one of them.

A day after the Femen incident, 1,500 people protested against the group outside the French embassy, but it was Lahcen and Mohsine who drew the most headlines after they appeared to kiss each other.

The names of the men and their photographs quickly appeared in local media, and the trial has attracted criticism from rights groups.

The furore over homosexuality in Morocco boiled over last week when weekly magazine Maroc Hebdo was forced to withdraw its latest edition featuring a front cover headline asking: "Should we burn gays?"

Ukrainian MVD troops ready to storm rogue battalion's base

Ukrainian interior ministry troops are prepared to storm a rogue volunteer military unit base in northern Lugansk should disarmament negotiations fail, according to Russian language news sources.

Eight top commanders of the "Tornado" Battalion, a volunteer police unit currently based in Severodonetsk, were detained and sent to Kiev to face trial after an investigation uncovered that they had committed serious crimes against civilians and against members of their own unit, including murder, torture, rape, physical assault and robbery.

Ukrainian chief military prosecutor, Anatoly Matios said Friday that of the 170 members of the unit, 43 had a criminal past and one of the commanders, Ruslan Onishchenko had five, the most of any of the current detainees.

Yesterday, Russian reserve FSB Colonel Igor Girkin claimed on his news website that Onishchenko was in interior ministry custody and undergoing intensive medical care after suffering a severe beating, likely at the hands of interior ministry officials.

According to a news report in regnum.ru, the Tornado battalion's 170 effectives have barricaded themselves in Severdonetsk, and have mined their perimeter. The report suggests that the leaders have yet to talk with interior ministry investigators.

Matios said Friday that the interior ministry had sufficient troops near Severodonetsk to take the base by attack, so if the leaders refuse to allow investigators into the base, an attack could take place by Sunday.

"You can call it disarmament operations, or it can be called whatever you like," Matios is quoted as saying. "We have information that a large number of people are there, but cannot leave the base, because it is mined. At the entrance to the base is a car bomb."

According to a news report on tensor.net, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said on a Facebook page Friday that two interior ministry officers, identified as generals Yarovoy and Rudenko, were in Severodonetsk and are expected to participate in negotiations for disarmament of the unit.

According to the posting, the acting commander of "Tornado" Battalion, Nikolai Cukura has stated his unit is in full compliance with interior ministry orders, although the latest is that the unit continues to be barricaded.

Russia built one of the most alarming antiaircraft systems in history ‐ and won't say who it's sending it to
One of Russia's most alarming new weapons capabilities may be on the move soon.

Jane's reports that KBM, a state-owned armament company specializing in missile systems, recently presented its 9K333 Verba man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS).

At an arms fair this week, the company announced that the weapon had been cleared for export -- although KBM designer Gen. Velariy Kashin would not reveal the foreign buyer or buyers.

Kashin described the 9K333 Verba is "the most capable" MANPADS ever developed, according to Jane's. Missiles are guided to their targets using a "three-channel optical seeker, which operates in the ultraviolet, near-infrared, and mid-infrared wavelengths," a feature that increases the weapon's accuracy and speeds up its target acquisition.

North Korea says it has 'cure' for MERS, Ebola, Aids
[Al Ahram] North Korea claims it has developed a vaccine that is "very effective" in curing MERS, Ebola and Aids, as well as a range of other diseases and ailments, state news agency KCNA reported.
"... gallstones, mange, palpitations of the spleen...
The drug, known as Kumdang-2, is reportedly able to treat everything from AIDS to tuberculosis and cancer, as well as "harm from the use of computers" and morning sickness, according to the drug's website.
"...kinesthesia, mumps, female complaints..."
South Korea is currently battling with an outbreak of MERS, which has killed 24 people while 166 cases have been confirmed -- the largest outbreak of the disease outside Soddy Arabia.
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
"... irritations of the blowhole, badbreath, baldness..."
Developed by North Korea's Pugang Pharmaceutic Company -- and promoted under the tag line "Everyone has the right to be healthy" -- the vaccine is made of extracts from ginseng with the injection of rare earth elements, KCNA said.
"... collywobbles, warts, moles, bee stings..."
"The Kumdang-2 injection, a strong immune activator, which is produced in DPRK (North Korea), is very effective in curing diseases caused by malignant viruses such as SARS, Ebola and MERS," said the report.
"... impotence, both post-nasal and venereal drips..."
The impoverished communist state, known to have a weak health infrastructure, claims to have been testing this cure-all drug since 1989, and has previously trumpeted the efficacy of the drug.
"... the pangs of childbirth, depression, rigor mortis..."
North Korea has taken drastic measures in the past to guard against viral diseases, and last year imposed a four-month ban on foreign tourists, purportedly due to concern at the spread of the Ebola virus.
"... crossed eyes, knock knees, and bunions!"
It has recently intensified screening and vowed "watertight" measures at the international airport and at border crossings to ward off the MERS virus.

Europe
Danish center-right opposition wins election, PM quits party
Yet another European nation turns rightward and anti-immigrant.
[Ynet] Danish voters ousted Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt in an election on Thursday and handed power to an opposition center-right alliance including huge gains for a eurosceptic, anti-immigrant party.

Opposition leader Lars Lokke Rasmussen said he would try to form a government but is likely to have to make big concessions to ensure support from the right-wing Danish Peoples' Party (DF), which ended up with more votes than his Liberal Party.

With all of the votes counted on the mainland, the centre-right won 90 seats in parliament to 85 seats for the centre-left bloc of Thorning-Schmidt, who wrongly gambled that an economic upturn would win her re-election.

Denmark's first female prime minister, elected in 2011, Thorning-Schmidt conceded defeat and quit as party leader after the vote.
An Nahar provides considerably more detail, for those interested.

The big story is what is going on inside the "center-right" coalition. The most conservative party beat out the moderates to become the dominant part of the coalition.

Lawyers 'thrash' yet another cop
[DAWN] A group of lawyers on Thursday gave a sound thrashing to a police sub-inspector allegedly for using the glass of a lawyer for drinking water outside the Lahore High Court Bar Association cafeteria.

According to eyewitnesses, the angry lawyers allegedly snatched two mobile phones and a court case file from uniformed SI Liaqat Ali of Nankana Sahib.

The police official had come to the court to appear in a bail matter and after the hearing, he went to bar cafeteria to drink water.

An eyewitness said the row erupted when the SI picked a glass and water jug placed on a table normally used by lawyers belonging to the "Save Judiciary Committee".

He said the lawyers started slapping the policeman hard on his face and dragged him on the ground.

Later, the lawyers expelled the SI out of the bar area, allegedly after snatching two cellular phones, cash and court-case file from him.

An inspector of Daska police, Shahzad Warraich, had recently shot two lawyers dead during a brawl that allegedly erupted after he was manhandled by black coats.

Science & Technology
This is what it is like to be catapulted from an aircraft carrier using Electromagnetic Launch System
The following video was taken on Jun. 16, when ship's sponsor Susan Ford Bales visited Newport News to see progress on the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78).

During the demonstration, she gave the signal to fire the EMALS catapult, with two weighted sleds being launched off the carrier around 1:00 p.m.

#1  Nice, but I'm wondering iff the US Navy-DOD will see a need for a vertical manned andor unmanned large aircraft launch system, as opposed to the current + still-popular horizontal???

During the 1950's there were proposals for USN CV's wid two or more flight decks.

Government
Six Cities Chosen to Have Nationalized Police Forces
A new pilot program has been launched by the Holder DOJ that could help bring police departments under federal control. It will be based on the premise that there is rampant bias in all police departments in the country and it will be aimed at saving the poor victimized minorities who are unfairly arrested.

It's important to note that it is a pilot program, which means an expansion of it is planned for much or all of the country. The six cities that have agreed to submit are taking money to subject themselves to federal research and to employ federal policing tactics.

The program has a name -- "National Initiative for Building Community Trust and Justice".

It will compile research and devise strategies to help the police get over their supposedly raging racism and learn to listen to the unfairly treated communities.

The pilot program treats crime like a focus group.

Six cities have been selected as pilot programs, pilot meaning they will eventually extend throughout police departments everywhere.

These cities have significant numbers of blacks, Hispanics and/or Muslims to be exploited. Minorities and the poor always provide fertile ground for these types of Marxist initiatives. It's a good place to start and they grow from there.

The communities will receive grants. They're being bought off in other words.

The cities are Fort Worth, Texas; Gary, Indiana; Stockton, California; Birmingham, Alabama; Minneapolis; and Pittsburgh.

Five of the six cities are bastions of far-left liberalism with some high crime rates in a number of locales. They will easily succumb to this form of social work policing.

House Republicans Aim To Strip Planned Parenthood's Funding
[Breibart] The House Appropriations Committee's draft of its fiscal year 2016 Labor, Health and Human Services (LHHS) funding bill "eliminates all funding for the controversial Family Planning Program, saving taxpayers nearly $300 million." The bill would also substantially cut so-called "comprehensive teen pregnancy prevention programs," but double funding for abstinence-centered or Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) programs.
Something everyone should be smiling about.
The National Abstinence Education Association (NAEA) found that the SRA approach is effective, supported by both parents and an increasing number of teens, and consistent with other public health initiatives for teens such as anti-smoking, anti-drinking, anti-drug, and anti-violence programs that have also been effective.

"Largely misrepresented, SRA education is more than just about saying 'no,'" says NAEA. "Abstinence-centered and holistic, the SRA strategy offers skill-building topics such as goal setting and future orientation, healthy decision making, building assets, avoiding negative peer pressure, and human development."

The sexual risk reduction (SRR) model, however, NAEA states, "is built on the premise that teens either cannot, or will not, abstain from sex; therefore they must learn to take 'precautions' that will decrease their risk of becoming pregnant," or becoming infected with an STD.

#3  The a*hole Senate leader has allowed the Donks to stop the defense bill. He won't use his predecessor's implementation of the nuke rule to remain in place which doesn't require 60 votes to bring the funding bill to the floor for vote. So the Donks are going to obstruct every funding bill till the Trunks are forced to vote once again on an pork and expansion packed omnibus bill or close the government. So PP is going to get funded along with all the other Donk programs. Yes, the Prez can veto the individual funding bills, but that just makes the gambit obvious to everyone and pins him as the point of obstruction. It's all theater played by the Beltway Party.
Posted by: Procopius2k || 06/20/2015 18:53 Comments || Top||

#4  9 out of 10 Planned Parenthood clients are poor non-asian minorities, ie, core Democrat demographic. I've never understood why the Donks want to help them get birth control and abortions. You'd think they'd be going around poking holes in their condoms and urging them to have 10 kids each. Suggesting that anyone who thought they should have any fewer is a racist promoting black genocide. Surely easier to get more votes that way than ramming through immigration 'reform'. After all, it's pretty much a slam dunk that all 10 kids would grow up to vote Democrat.
