Malaysian zoomies caught selling two F-5E engines
KUALA LUMPUR: Not one but two jet-fighter engines, each worth RM50 million, were stolen from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base in Sungai Besi. Both engines served as powerplants to the F-5E Tiger II fighter and RF-5E Tigereye reconnaissance jets.
Well, as it's a two-engine aircraft, that would make sense. Earlier reports had only one engine missing.
Both sitting inside an Iranian air force F-5 now, I'm betting.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail said the two engines were discovered stolen in May last year. RMAF had lodged a report with the police on Aug 4 last year.

Gani, speaking to the New Straits Times, said police investigation papers would be returned to the Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department today with additional directives.

"They will now focus their investigations into government procedures with regard to the transportation of the engines, the private defence contractor handling it and several other individuals, including Malaysian armed forces personnel." The A-G's Chambers had received the investigation papers last month.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said there would be no cover-up of the theft, adding that the Defence Ministry had lodged a police report in August last year.

Police had sent Gani a note on the case in May this year. He had given the nod to proceed with investigations in June. Gani will also ask police to furnish more details on the stolen General Electric J85-21A turbojet engines.

He said the first engine was transported out of RMAF's Butterworth base to the Sungai Besi base in June 2007 while the second engine was moved out five months later in November. Both engines were to be kept in a warehouse at the Sungai Besi base before being taken out for maintenance.

The engines were taken out of the Butterworth base by the same private defence contractor handling its maintenance.

Both engines were only discovered stolen along with their maintenance records when RMAF officers wanted to service them in May last year. RMAF lodged a report with the police in August last year after searching for the engines at all its airbases.
"Did you check under the couch cushions?"
The case was later handled by the Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department in Bukit Aman.

The New Straits Times first highlighted the case of the stolen jet engine on Saturday.
Reported in the New Straits Times patented "one sentence per paragraph" style.
Which I spend time fixing ...
It was learnt that the engines were sold to arms dealers on the black market.

Intelligence reports suggested the engines were later transported to a US-sanctioned Middle Eastern country that was keen on developing its own fighter jet.
Other reports said it was a South American buyer - shifting blame from the government-approved buyer to the politically correct blame taker?
The only middle Eastern country I can think of that might have the ability to develop its own fighter jet is Iran... and they've got other uses for engineers these days.
Armed forces chief Tan Sri Azizan Ariffin, in confirming the case, had also said that the case was the "tip of the iceberg".

An audit launched after the case also showed that equipment worth several millions of ringgit were missing.

#3  Another story mentioned it was one engine not two, but seems everywhere its being quoted as RM50 million worth which is a bit high. That amount translates to 14.5 million USD, now an F-5E used to only sell for 2-3 million tops I'm finding it hard to believe the ENGINE is more than 7 times the price of the plane.

#4  This trend is on the rise in many not so developed countries. Rogue pays insiders or professional thieves to obtain equipment to tinker with. It is cheaper to do so than development and faster for weapons development.

Lots of this stuff going on. The more rogue states, the more looting and proliferation.

Guinness Brewery Fire
Could be the end of the world as we know it - but it seems Dublin's firefighters came through.

11 units of Dublin Fire Brigade and three aerial fire fighting vehicles attended the scene at St James's Gate this afternoon.

The two firefighters are stable condition at St James's Hospital. It is understood that they may have come into contact with ammonia.

The fire broke out in a storage building for empty containers at the lower end of the brewery near the Victoria Quay entrance at 12.10pm.

Repairs were being carried out on the roof of the building, which was partly made of felt.

The area in question was not in regular use and was successfully evacuated. It is believed significant damage was caused to the building.

In a statement, Diageo said production continued elsewhere on the site throughout the incident.

#1  Shure this is the greatest drama at Guinness since Shamus had his accident.

Brenda O’Malley is home making dinner, as usual, when Tim Finnegan arrives at her door. “Brenda, may I come in?” he asks. “I’ve somethin’ to tell ya”.
“Of course you can come in, you’re always welcome, Tim. But where’s my husband?”
“That’s what I’m here to be telling ya, Brenda. There was an accident down at the Guinness brewery”
“Oh, God no!” cries Brenda “Please don’t tell me!”
“I must, Brenda… Your husband Shamus is dead and gone. I’m sorry.”
Finally, she looked up at Tim - “How did it happen, Tim?”
“It was terrible, Brenda… He fell into a vat of Guinness Stout, and drowned.”
“Oh my dear Jesus! But you must tell me true, Tim, did he at least go quickly?”
“Well, Brenda, no. In fact, he got out three times to pee.”

Brutal European winter kills at least 80
The death toll from winter storms across Europe rose to at least 80 on Monday as transport chaos spread amid mounting anger over the failure of Eurostar high-speed trains.

With tens of thousands stranded by the cancellation of London-to-Paris trains and hundreds of flights across the continent, new accidents and mass power cuts added to the big freeze tumult.

A car veered off an icy road knocking concrete onto rails that derailed a Paris commuter train, injuring 36 people, police said.

Another train in the Croatian capital Zagreb hit a buffer injuring 52 people.

Croatian investigators blamed the minus 17 degrees Celsius temperatures for the brake failure, national television reported. Temperatures as low as minus 33.6 degrees Celsius have been recorded in Bavaria.

In Poland, authorities said 42 people, many of them homeless, had died of cold over three days after temperatures plunged to minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Ukraine reported 27 deaths
That poor country -- on top of being hit so badly by their extra-virulent hemorrhagic flu.
while six people were killed in accidents in Germany and three in Austria.

France has reported at least two deaths of homeless people. The national power company cut electricity to two million people on Monday saying it was needed to avoid an even bigger blackout amid surging demand.

The breakdown of the Eurostar service under the Channel, linking London with Paris and Brussels, has symbolised Europe's suffering.

Along with the nightmare of more than 2,000 people stuck in the tunnel when five trains broke down Friday, tens of thousands more people have missed trains cancelled since then.

Posted by: Jack Salami || 12/22/2009 8:43 Comments || Top||

#6  That's not as absurd as it admittedly sounds. If the earth's atmosphere were heating up it would do so unevenly, causing a mixing of cold and warm air. Think of how water moves in a pot over a high flame ... as the bottom of the pot gets hot quickly the water it heats rises, causing some of the cooler water at the top to mix around. GW would bring down arctic air to Europe and the US if it were happening quickly.

Doesn't mean we're in fact warming but doesn't mean we aren't either.

Afghanistan
Karzai says family murder under investigation
Afghanistan's Interior Ministry is investigating the killing of an 18 year-old cousin of President Hamid Karzai, allegedly bloody revenge for the death of another relative 30 years earlier, the Afghan leader said on Tuesday. Waheed Karzai was shot in front of his 12-year old sister in October, the New York Times reported earlier this week, quoting family members who said the hitman was a distant relative taking revenge for the "honour killing" of his father decades earlier. The president's powerful relatives are protecting the killer, the report said.

President Karzai confirmed that a young man had died, and said an old family feud could have been involved in the shooting, but he said the Ministry of the Interior was investigating and warned against jumping to conclusions. "There was an unfortunate incident about 30 years ago, when we were refugees in Pakistan in the time of jihad, I guess of the Soviets, my uncle was killed in the house of that member of the family," Karzai told a news conference in the Afghan capital. "Now some months ago, a young son, an 18 year-old son of that family was killed in our village in Karz, so because of that history, naturally attention would come to that other cousin."

Relatives from both sides of the family have been in touch with him about the case, President Karzai said, one side accusing his cousin of the murder and the other side defending him, but added that he is waiting for the result of the investigation.

The man who has been accused by the dead teenager's relatives is Karzai's cousin, son of the uncle killed three decades earlier. He moved to the United States after his father's death but has returned to his homeland and amassed wealth and power in the security business, the New York Times said. His father was allegedly murdered because he allowed his sister to break off an engagement with Waheed Karzai's father, made when the two were young children.

The cousin himself denies the murder.

UN finds Camara responsible for Guinea massacre
[Iran Press TV Latest] The UN has determined that Guinea's junta leader Captain Moussa Dadis Camara is directly responsible for the September 28 massacre at an opposition rally.

"The commission considers there are sufficient grounds for presuming direct criminal responsibility by President Moussa Dadis Camara," Le Monde's website said, quoting the report delivered to the UN Security Council.

Camara's former colleagues Claude Pivi and Lieutenant Aboubacar "Toumba" Diakite who attempted to assassinate him on December 3rd, were among others held responsibly by the UN commission.

Camara and the junta under his command took control of the West African country following the former dictator president Lansana Conte's death on December 22.

Camara had initially promised to quickly organize elections, in which he would not contest, but then reversed course and began hinting that he planned to run for office, prompting a massive protest on September 28, during which the massacre took place.

The International Criminal Court was asked by the UN to charge Camara and his aids for mass killings, rape and sexual mutilation of opposition supporters, Le Monde said.

Camara is currently in Morocco where he was flown to receive treatment for gun-shot wounds afflicted by Lt. Diakite.

Mugabe, Tsvangirai agree on a slate of appointments
[Iran Press TV Latest] Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai have met to resolve their year-long differences and agree in part on a slate of key appointments.

Tsvangirai's party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), announced on Monday that if all the outstanding issues are not resolved soon, the case will be referred to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to break the impasse.

They agreed to meet again on Wednesday to finalize the appointments of officials to oversee reforms in the media, elections, and human rights, MDC spokesman James Maridadi said after the two met on Monday in Harare.

He stated that the MDC has set a deadline of January 15 for resolving all the outstanding issues, including the appointment of the central bank governor and attorney general. If no decision is taken, the MDC will ask SADC to break the logjam, he added.

Since forming a unity government in February, Mugabe and Tsvangirai have battled over the appointment of provincial governors, the swearing in of deputy agriculture minister Roy Bennett, and the lifting of a Western travel ban and asset freeze on Mugabe and his inner circle.

Britain
Conservatives leading Labour in polls
[Iran Press TV Latest] Amid the UK's grim financial speculations, the Conservative Party has extended its lead over the governing Labour Party. Two surveys conducted by The Observer and The People newspapers showed that the opposition Conservative Party was leading 43 percent to 26 percent in one poll, and 40 percent to 28 percent in the other respectively.

The new results come in contrast with last week opinion poll that suggested Prime Minister Gordon Brown's party was gaining public support.

The Labour Party has a parliamentary majority of 63 in the House of Commons. However, it is expected to lose its majority in the elections due by mid 2010.

The Observer speculated that finance minister Alistair Darling's announcement that the British government will be GBP 178 billion (USD 288 billion) in debt for the fiscal year contributed to new support for the Conservative Party. Darling also revealed that there will be an increase in national insurance aid that will exempt the poor, and that the public sector will have to restrict pay raises.

"The polls change around. I think there's a view in the Conservative Party that it's a done deal. Never underestimate the seriousness of the British electorate. As we get closer to the election they will be looking much more closely at the policies of the main parties," Home Secretary Alan Johnson was quoted by the BBC as saying.

Britain's elections are scheduled to take place on May 6, 2010, but Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said that he might choose to hold the elections earlier in March.

Drug Gang Hit Men Execute Navy Hero's Family in Mexico
Vermin come in brands other than Muslim.
MORE than a dozen hit men burst into a house near Mexico City early today and executed the family members of a Navy sailor who died in last week's battle that killed drug lord Arturo Beltran Leyva.

The gunmen killed the mother, sister, and aunt of Melquisedet Angulo Córdova only hours after the sailor was buried with a military honor guard.

Two of the sailor's brothers were badly wounded, according to Mexican media reports.

President Felipe Calderon had praised the sailor as an example to all Mexicans for his courage during the hours-long battle that killed Beltran Leyva in the central city of Cuernavaca last week.

Beltran Leyva headed a drug trafficking organization that sent billions of dollars worth of cocaine and marijuana to the US and was well known for its brutality.

The revenge killing underscores a vital failing by Mexico's government in its war on drug gangs: The inability to protect the people who are waging the war from retribution by drug gangs.

Chavez warns Colombia not to attack Venezuela
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has warned Colombia not to attack his country.

Addressing the Colombian bourgeoisie, Chavez said on Sunday that Bogota is preparing an attack on his country. He warned them, saying that if an attack on Venezuela takes place, "you will regret it. We are not disarmed nor are we sitting here with our arms crossed."

He told his countrymen that they must be calm but fully alert as Colombia has sent two army battalions to the Venezuelan border.

Also, the Yankees are setting up seven bases across Colombian territory and are moving their planes to Aruba and Curacao, he said in his weekly "Alo Presidente" television show.

He went on to say that the US military, in preparation for a possible attack, has sent intelligence agents, war ships, and spy planes to Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire, which are self-governing Dutch islands.

The US has given billions of dollars in aid to its ally Colombia, ostensibly to help it fight guerrillas and drug traffickers. President Alvaro Uribe says the new base deal is just an extension of existing military cooperation for operations limited to Colombian territory.

How to get rich
So you think giving developing countries all those free "carbon credits" is going to cut greenhouse gas emissions and save the planet? Think again.

Through a bizarre but wholly foreseen loophole in the UN's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) system, payments are actually incentivising manufacturers in China and other developing countries to continue producing one of the most potent of all greenhouse gases, the ozone depleting substances (ODS) known collectively as CFCs, used for refrigeration and other industrial purposes.

Sheikh Al-Qaradhawi on Christmas Celebrations in Muslim Countries
Posted by: anonymous5089 || 12/22/2009 08:56 || Comments || Link || [2 views] Top|| File under:

#1  Well Sheik, lets see what your idiot rule book says about Jesus (Isa):

The Koran
27 matches.
The Cow
[2.87] And most certainly We gave Musa the Book and We sent apostles after him one after another; and We gave Isa, the son of Marium, clear arguments and strengthened him with the holy spirit, What! whenever then an apostle came to you with that which your souls did not desire, you were insolent so you called some liars and some you slew.
[2.136] Say: We believe in Allah and (in) that which had been revealed to us, and (in) that which was revealed to Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq and Yaqoub and the tribes, and (in) that which was given to Musa and Isa, and (in) that which was given to the prophets from their Lord, we do not make any distinction between any of them, and to Him do we submit.
[2.253] We have made some of these apostles to excel the others among them are they to whom Allah spoke, and some of them He exalted by (many degrees of) rank; and We gave clear miracles to Isa son of Marium, and strengthened him with the holy spirit. And if Allah had pleased, those after them would not have fought one with another after clear arguments had come to them, but they disagreed; so there were some of them who believed and others who denied; and if Allah had pleased they would not have fought one with another, but Allah brings about what He intends.
The Family of Imran
[3.45] When the angels said: O Marium, surely Allah gives you good news with a Word from Him (of one) whose name is the '. Messiah, Isa son of Marium, worthy of regard in this world and the hereafter and of those who are made near (to Allah).
[3.52] But when Isa perceived unbelief on their part, he said Who will be my helpers in Allah's way? The disciples said: We are helpers (in the way) of Allah: We believe in Allah and bear witness that we are submitting ones.
[3.55] And when Allah said: O Isa, I am going to terminate the period of your stay (on earth) and cause you to ascend unto Me and purify you of those who disbelieve and make those who follow you above those who disbelieve to the day of resurrection; then to Me shall be your return, so l will decide between you concerning that in which you differed.
[3.59] Surely the likeness of Isa is with Allah as the likeness of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him, Be, and he was.
[3.84] Say: We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq and Yaqoub and the tribes, and what was given to Musa and Isa and to the prophets from their Lord; we do not make any distinction between any of them, and to Him do we submit.
The Women
[4.157] And their saying: Surely we have killed the Messiah, Isa son of Marium, the apostle of Allah; and they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them so (like Isa) and most surely those who differ therein are only in a doubt about it; they have no knowledge respecting it, but only follow a conjecture, and they killed him not for sure.
[4.159] And there is not one of the followers of the Book but most certainly believes in this before his death, and on the day of resurrection he (Isa) shall be a witness against them.
[4.163] Surely We have revealed to you as We revealed to Nuh, and the prophets after him, and We revealed to Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq and Yaqoub and the tribes, and Isa and Ayub and Yunus and Haroun and Sulaiman and We gave to Dawood
[4.171] O followers of the Book! do not exceed the limits in your religion, and do not speak (lies) against Allah, but (speak) the truth; the Messiah, Isa son of Marium is only an apostle of Allah and His Word which He communicated to Marium and a spirit from Him; believe therefore in Allah and His apostles, and say not, Three. Desist, it is better for you; Allah is only one God; far be It from His glory that He should have a son, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His, and Allah is sufficient for a Protector.
The Dinner Table
[5.46] And We sent after them in their footsteps Isa, son of Marium, verifying what was before him of the Taurat and We gave him the Injeel in which was guidance and light, and verifying what was before it of Taurat and a guidance and an admonition for those who guard (against evil).
[5.78] Those who disbelieved from among the children of Israel were cursed by the tongue of Dawood and Isa, son of Marium; this was because they disobeyed and used to exceed the limit.
[5.110] When Allah will say: O Isa son of Marium! Remember My favor on you and on your mother, when I strengthened you I with the holy Spirit, you spoke to the people in the cradle and I when of old age, and when I taught you the Book and the wisdom and the Taurat and the Injeel; and when you determined out of clay a thing like the form of a bird by My permission, then you breathed into it and it became a bird by My permission, and you healed the blind and the leprous by My permission; and when you brought forth the dead by My permission; and when I withheld the children of Israel from you when you came to them with clear arguments, but those who disbelieved among them said: This is nothing but clear enchantment.
[5.112] When the disciples said: O Isa son of Marium! will your Lord consent to send down to us food from heaven? He said: Be careful of (your duty to) Allah if you are believers.
[5.114] Isa the son of Marium said: O Allah, our Lord! send i down to us food from heaven which should be to us an ever-recurring happiness, to the first of us and to the last of us, and a sign from Thee, and grant us means of subsistence, and Thou art the best of the Providers.
[5.116] And when Allah will say: O Isa son of Marium! did you say to men, Take me and my mother for two gods besides Allah he will say: Glory be to Thee, it did not befit me that I should say what I had no right to (say); if I had said it, Thou wouldst indeed have known it; Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I do not know what is in Thy mind, surely Thou art the great Knower of the unseen things.
The Cattle
[6.85] And Zakariya and Yahya and Isa and Ilyas; every one was of the good;
Marium
[19.34] Such is Isa, son of Marium; (this is) the saying of truth about which they dispute.
The Clans
[33.7] And when We made a covenant with the prophets and with you, and with Nuh and Ibrahim and Musa and Isa, son of Marium, and We made with them a strong covenant
The Counsel
[42.13] He has made plain to you of the religion what He enjoined upon Nuh and that which We have revealed to you and that which We enjoined upon Ibrahim and Musa and Isa that keep to obedience and be not divided therein; hard to the unbelievers is that which you call them to; Allah chooses for Himself whom He pleases, and guides to Himself him who turns (to Him), frequently.
Ornaments of Gold
[43.63] And when Isa came with clear arguments he said: I have come to you indeed with wisdom, and that I may make clear to you part of what you differ in; so be careful of (your duty to) Allah and obey me:
The Iron
[57.27] Then We made Our apostles to follow in their footsteps, and We sent Isa son of Marium afterwards, and We gave him the Injeel, and We put in the hearts of those who followed him kindness and mercy; and (as for) monkery, they innovated it-- We did not prescribe it to them-- only to seek Allah's pleasure, but they did not observe it with its due observance; so We gave to those of them who believed their reward, and most of them are transgressors.
The Ranks
[61.6] And when Isa son of Marium said: O children of Israel! surely I am the apostle of Allah to you, verifying that which is before me of the Taurat and giving the good news of an Apostle who will come after me, his name being Ahmad, but when he came to them with clear arguments they said: This is clear magic.
[61.14] O you who believe! be helpers (in the cause) of Allah, as~ Isa son of Marium said to (his) disciples: Who are my helpers in the cause of Allah? The disciples said: We are helpers (in the cause) of Allah. So a party of the children of Israel believed and another party disbelieved; then We aided those who believed against their enemy, and they became uppermost.

you dumb old billy goat.

Khmer Rouge 'First Lady' charged with genocide
A UN-backed Cambodian war crimes court on Monday charged a fourth top Khmer Rouge cadre with genocide, broadening the scope of a long-awaited trial of the ultra-communist "Killing Fields" regime's top ranks. Ieng Thirith, 78, had already been accused of "murder, imprisonment and other inhumane acts" for her role as social affairs minister in a regime blamed for the deaths of 1.7 million people. The new charges relate to the slaughter of Cambodia's ethnic Vietnamese and Cham Muslim minorities during the 1975-1979 Khmer Rouge era. The tribunal on Monday also charged her with torture and religious persecution. Ieng Thirith, a former Shakespeare scholar known as the "Khmer Rouge First Lady", was arrested in November 2007 with her 85-year-old husband and ex-foreign minister Ieng Sary.

No Christmas cards for Rifqa Bary, parents said
Rifqa Bary is scheduled to return to court today because her parents want to ban her from receiving Christmas cards, according to a report on WESH.com. Also, her parents are expected to ask a judge to hold the teenager in contempt of court for refusing to attend Muslim counseling sessions.

Bary, 17, made international headlines in August when she fled from her home in Ohio to Orlando. She had claimed her Muslim father threatened to kill her after she converted to Christianity.

#1  While I am sympathetic of the young lady, I don’t feel we are getting the entire story here. Anyone with (or had teenage daughters) may be able to follow this line of reasoning. First, her parents allowed to become a cheerleader (minus the burqa), to me that speaks volumes about the parents. To paint them as radicals or fundamentalist just doesn’t square with that bit of evidence. Second, how many people have ever dealt with a teenage girl who thinks they are smarter than their parents? Finally, MANY people who undergo a religious conversion immediately turn on all that have (in their view) “seen that light”. Personally I wanted to strangle my sister-in-law for her diatribe about our pepperoni pizza we have on Friday. Yes you are better Catholic than me and I am ok with that. IMHO she is forgetting one the commandments that she now claims to uphold: Honor thy Mother and Farther. Wait a year, pray on your own, and then join whatever church you want (trust me, god will know your heart). P.S. I would ask those of a faith if a parent teaching them their faith is somehow wrong? If it were a Christian family they would want the kid to get Christian counseling. Merry Christmas Rifqa! You don't need a card.

#4  Cyber Sarge,
Apparently the Cheerleading thing was a mistake by the parents. They did not know what it involved (for once, I believe them). Also Rifqa made certain she left the house in sweats or other shapeless garb and kept the cheerleading outfit at school.

Her parents never attended any of the sports events.

P.S. Her attitude towards Islam is probably influenced be the fact that her brother took out her I and her father kept hitting her. (her friends testified that she frequently came to school with bruises).

#5  Cybersarge, are you not aware that the reason this young lady has only one eye is that a male Muslim member blinded her in the other eye? Are you not aware that the moment her father ever hears that she intends to have any relations with any non-Muslim male, that will be the "trigger point" for Muslim males in her family? I doubt that you do. THAT is what is wrong with todays Americans. No Knowledge.

#8  Hey I didn't hear about any beatings, but do other non-muslim parents raise their hand to their children? My mother gave my brother a black eye one morning before school because he was talking back to her. My dad would not hesitate to backhand or hit us with whatever was handy when we got out of line. BTW they were not Muslim. Am I making sense here or am I the crazy one? She may very well be the abused and neglected kid she claims but I don't see the evidence.

#9  Again, sorry, "err on the side of the parents' rights" hasn't been the standard in the US for a loooong time now. Say the word "evidence" to a child services functionary and watch wha it's like when someone splits a gut laughing. All that said, the parents in this story have been handled with double-layer kid gloves because of PC pantie twisting in the presence of muzz sensibilities...

#10  M. Murcek, you may be right they are getting special treatment but not to their favor. IMHE CPS will snatch a child out of a home simply because they are denied enough Xbox time or had to eat store brand cereal (oh the horror).

Doubt it. Clinton for all his faults was exceptionally intelligent, and not stuck on his own luminescent magnificence. Obama's in love with his own voice, and doesn't realize that at bottom he isn't the sharpest guy in the room. Not by a long shot.
