Ukrainian woman weds Chicago fiancé ahead of return home
CHICAGO (AP) — When Russia invaded her home country of Ukraine, Maria decided she had to get there and help defend it — even if it meant leaving her fiancé behind in Chicago days after getting married.

Maria and her fiancé, David, married Saturday before about 20 people in the backyard of an Oak Park home — the venue offered last minute after Maria asked for advice in a neighborhood Facebook group. The couple met last year and got engaged in October.

On Monday, she plans to fly to Poland, then make her way to the Ukrainian border, ultimately aiming to volunteer to fight for her home country.

Ukraine: Watching the war on Russian TV - a whole different story
[BBC] Never was there a better illustration of the alternative reality presented by Russian state media than at 17:00 GMT on Tuesday. As BBC World TV opened its bulletin with reports of a Russian attack on a TV tower in the capital Kyiv, Russian TV was announcing that Ukraine was responsible for strikes on its own cities.

So what are Russian TV viewers seeing of the war? What messages are they hearing over the airwaves? Below is a snapshot of what ordinary Russians would have picked up, on Tuesday 1 March, while channel-hopping across the country's key TV stations, which are controlled by the Kremlin and its corporate allies.

Alleged Russian Spy Worked for US Government News Agency
[Free Beacon] Given Obama/Biden/Anti-Trump, how could they tell?
A Spanish journalist arrested on suspicion of spying for Russia recently worked for Voice of America, the United States government's international media organization.

Pablo Gonzalez was arrested at the Poland-Ukraine border earlier this week on charges that he was secretly working for Russia’s military intelligence service, the GRU. Gonzalez, a Spanish national born in Russia, was identified as a freelance reporter for the Spanish outlets El Sixto and Publico. He has also worked as a freelance reporter for Voice of America (VOA) since at least 2020. Gonzalez helped produce a VOA segment from inside Ukraine last month, according to a Washington Free Beacon investigation.

Gonzalez’s previously unreported work could raise concerns that he used his VOA position to collect intelligence for Russia. If Gonzalez is indeed a Russian spy, it would lend credence to concerns raised by Michael Pack, who oversaw VOA during the Trump administration. Pack came under fire from Democrats when he said VOA was "a great place to put a foreign spy" given the agency’s lax security standards. VOA staffers and others in the media accused Pack of undermining the agency and putting its journalists at risk.

Poland’s internal security agency said Friday that Gonzalez was "conducting his business for Russia while taking advantage of his journalist status." The counterintelligence agency said Gonzalez collected information for Russia’s spy service during his recent stay in Poland and that he planned to continue his activities in war torn Ukraine.

Gonzalez is identified as a cameraman for a Feb. 4 Voice of America story from Dnipro, a city in eastern Ukraine. The story told of residents’ preparations for a Russian invasion of Ukraine. A reporter who worked with Gonzalez on the story cast doubt on the allegations from Polish authorities.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty suspends operations in Russia
[JPost] Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) announced early Sunday morning that it is suspending operations in Russia after local tax authorities initiated bankruptcy proceedings against the news agency's Russian entity and authorities intensified pressure against independent media.

The news agency stated that a years-long pressure campaign has targeted RFE/RL. The news agency opened its Moscow bureau in 1992 at the invitation of then president Boris Yeltsin.

The bankruptcy proceedings come after Russia's media regulator Roskomnadzor issued 1,040 violations against RFE/RL because the news agency failed to accompany all of its Russian-language content with a state-mandated warning that the agency is a "foreign agent." The violations have resulted in fines of over $13.4 million.

On Saturday, Russia's communications watchdog restricted access to RFE/RL and several other foreign news organizations' websites for spreading what it called false information. A law recently signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin imposes a jail term of up to 15 years for people who intentionally spread "fake" information about Russia's armed forces.

Operation on Denazification of Ukraine: operational summary March 5 (updated)
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[NewsFrontInfo] 22:17 Our source from the office in Kyiv reports that the OP and the SBU understand that the “loss” of control over Mariupol and Kharkov will undermine morale and possibly launch the domino principle among other cities in the country. Therefore, the case of humanitarian corridors for civilians will be delayed as much as possible, thereby gaining time.

18:50 Poroshenko and Turchynov left Kyiv and are now at a checkpoint near Ivano-Frankivsk. Far from the line of contact.

18:41 Russian servicemen took control of the military base of the armed forces of Ukraine near the village of Radensk, Kherson region.

18:23 The Ukrainian military destroyed the spillway of the dam through the Seversky Donets in the village. Old Saltov in the Volchansky district of the Kharkov region to slow down the advance of the Russian army to Kharkov.

18:17 The Armed Forces of Ukraine leave the military base in Kherson. In the meantime, the stubborn teroboronists, who are given weapons by the Kyiv authorities, continue to smash settlements and kill civilians.

Moreover, as we have repeatedly warned, the war party is hatching plans not only for the physical elimination of people, but also for the organization of a humanitarian catastrophe for those whom it holds hostage. We have documents confirming the above.

This is a plan for mining bridges on the Kakhovka reservoir. Further comments are superfluous. And those who are still drowning for Zelya and the Nazis should once again think carefully about who the enemy really is.

18:12 The Ukrainian Armed Forces, at gunpoint, do not allow people to be evacuated from the settlement. Irpin. People are standing near the bridge, which the Armed Forces of Ukraine themselves blew up.

18:10 Ukrainian nationalists are going to kill nine citizens of Iraq held in Sumy, blaming the Russian military for this, sources in the Russian power structures told RIA Novosti.

18:09 At the base of neo-Nazis near Mariupol, they found a military tunic with a British patch and a chevron of the UN peacekeeping forces.

18:06 All Indian citizens taken hostage near Kharkov have been evacuated, the embassy reported. Who held them hostage is clear without explanation.

17:43 The Russian Aerospace Forces attacked the headquarters of the VFU in the Sumy region.

17:39 Soon Kyiv will be completely ours - Kadyrov

17:20 Residents of the Kharkiv region, who managed to escape to the Belgorod region, are told that Ukrainian nationalists do not let refugees out. At the same time, they had no problems on the territory controlled by Russian troops. People were let through everywhere, they were even escorted by border guards.

17:10 The base of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Kherson came under the control of the Russian Armed Forces.

17:09 Pravoseckihidbombs in children's toys and first-aid kits: on the basis of militants of the right sector * (a terrorist group banned in the Russian Federation), a huge amount of materials for making bombs that could be remotely controlled were found.

They hid them in children's toys and first aid kits to kill civilians and children. In addition, a Turkish flag and photographs of foreign mercenaries were found at the base.

17:03 This photo demonstrates the uncontrolled distribution of weapons to everyone in Ukraine. The Kiev authorities are making children and women into human shields, behind which they will hide, instead of providing assistance and evacuation to safe places.

16:56 If the leadership of Ukraine continues to do what they are doing, this will call into question the future of Ukrainian statehood, and this will be entirely their responsibility," Vladimir Putin.

16:52 The provocation failed: a sabotage group of SBU special forces was captured near Melitopol. They intended to carry out a series of terrorist attacks against the civilian population in the city and pass it off as the actions of the Russian military. The saboteurs found weapons and explosives with them. A clear example of fascism against its own people.

16:19 The Russian Federation will consider any attempts by other countries to establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine as participation in hostilities.

15:57 The Russian Armed Forces continue to distribute humanitarian aid to the residents of Melitopol.

15:33 The RF Armed Forces are working on the fortified areas of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and territorial defense units at the Pervomaisk-Yuzhnoukrainsk-Voznesensk line. Now one of the main tasks is to cut off the northern entrance to Voznesensk, through which reinforcements are being transferred to the settlement.

15:28 Media reports that there is a strong explosion in Kyiv.

15:19 The armed formations of Ukraine began to use civilian transport to move. Cars are taken under territorial defense. Mostly they take roomy foreign cars. Information came from the southern suburbs of Kharkov - Vasishchevo and Khoroshevo.

15:18 The Armed Forces of Ukraine blew up the bridge on Stary Saltov (Kharkiv) so that people could not leave the city towards Russia.

14:58 The Russian military captured the Ukrainian military base near Kherson - dozens of abandoned Ukrainian tanks, armored vehicles, trucks, tankers. 4,500 tons of ammunition left in the warehouses when the garrison of 3-4,000 people fled. Most of the equipment is in good condition, the Russian military is loading it and taking it to safe ranges, where it will be decided what to do with it next.

14:56 Russian Defense Ministry: nationalist battalions continue to hold hostage about 5,000 foreigners as human shields, including: up to 1,500 students from India in Kharkiv, up to 200 citizens of Jordan, 40 citizens of Egypt, 15 citizens of Vietnam . There are 576 Indian citizens, 159 Tanzanian citizens, 121 Chinese citizens, 100 Ghanaian students, 60 Egyptian citizens, 45 Jordanian citizens, 16 Pakistani students, 15 Tunisian citizens and 14 Zambian citizens in Sumy. This is the largest foreign hostage-taking by terrorists in the history of the world.

14:25 Residents of the city of Irpin began evacuation. Recall that today Russia announced a day of silence from 10 am so that civilians can leave the war zones.

13:27 SBU liquidated a member of the negotiating group of Ukraine Denis Kireev. He was suspected of treason. Kireev was killed during the arrest. This was reported by the people's deputy Dubinsky and the sources of the Observer. We are waiting for official confirmation.

13:14 "Kill everyone, take everything away." Such words were written by the fighters of the nationalist battalion "Azov" on the fences of the inhabitants of the village of Berdyansk.

13:08 In addition to the national battalion "Donbass" and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, foreign mercenaries are fighting against the NM DPR in Volnovakha. This unit is the Georgian Legion. In its composition, 60 militants from Georgia arrived in Volnovakha. 15 of them have already been eliminated by the fighters of the Sparta battalion.

13:06 The nationalists refused to provide a humanitarian corridor to the residents of Mariupol.

13:04 Information from local residents: “Russians are standing in the vicinity of Nikolaev, it’s quiet in the city itself today.”

12:56 The Azov* militants set off an explosive device in Mariupol on Meotida Boulevard, under the rubble in the basement, up to 200 people, including Pushilin's children. This information has been officially confirmed.

12:30 Not a single person has left Mariupol along the gum corridor. But authorities The DPR forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are ready to accept people and do everything for this.

12:13 In Kharkiv, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and territorial defense continue to use Northern Saltovka as a fortified area.

12:10 In Voznesensk, they report on the landing of Russian troops from four helicopters in the village of Yastrebinovo.

12:08 Official information about the evacuation from Mariupol.

Start today March 5 at 11:00.

The route will be:

▪️Mariupol ▪️Nikolskoye ▪️Rozivka ▪️Pologi ▪️Orekhov ▪️Zaporozhye

Evacuation will take place from three places by municipal buses:

– Kalmiusskaya regional administration – (pr. Metallurgov, 193)

It will also be possible to drive along the route by personal transport, it is forbidden to deviate from it.

The evacuation will take place within a few days.

11:54 Local residents publish a video from the Kherson region, the village of Gladovka. They say that during the retreat, the National Battalions committed hits on residential buildings: “Here lies a man, he was torn to pieces” ... At the moment, Gladovka has come under the control of the Russian forces.

11:53 In Voznesensk, they report on the landing of Russian troops from 4 helicopters in the village of Yastrebinovo.

11:51 In Bucha, Kyiv region, soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are firing from residential houses. Spotters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are firing from residential buildings, using them as shelter and a foothold.

11:46 Temporary migrants from Ukraine begin "nightmare» Moldovan civilians speaking Russian to them. And then they dragged their "glade".

11:44 RaHDit hackers published an interesting document: I inform you that NATO is not expected to provide real military assistance to Ukraine.

As of March 4, 2022, more than 40% of the territory of Ukraine is controlled by units of the Russian Armed Forces. The civilian population continues to hastily leave the territory of Ukraine. Conflicts escalated between the Azov battalions and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Nationalist Battalion is completely out of control. Over 75% of the military potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been destroyed.

11:30 APU rammed a minibus with children from the orphanage. This happened at the moment when orphans were evacuated from the Nikolaev orphanage "Red Sun". It is reported that four children with severe injuries, they are in intensive care.

11:11 The Russian Aerospace Forces attacked the locations of the 72nd Ombre, the 1129th missile regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Gayok military airfield in the village of Gayok. Belaya Tserkov south of Kyiv.

There are many military facilities in the city: the 72nd separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the 1129th missile regiment are based there. Also in the village there is a military airfield Gayok.

10:12 Directly with Mariupol trouble. People are practically without information, and in the local chat, local "patriots" intimidate people and urge "not to believe the Russians." The situation is to cry. All attempts to speak with explanations are immediately blocked.

#2  If I could wave a magic wand and send a hellfire missile into Putin, I would. There's a special place in hell for the bastard.

But that's not going to happen. We fucked up Iraq by butting in, we trashed the place and got spanked and now Iran's riding high. Now we're making the same mistake and we're risking nuclear war.

Yes, Putin is a shit. Pure evil. But our interests dictate that we need to stay out of this.

Let Soros and Klaus Schwann and Lindsey Graham and Amy Klobuchar fight if they want to -- maybe Amy can send the Ukrainians some killer combs.

But this ain't our circus. Stay the fuck out.

#10  Yeah... been doing just that...

This is less signal to more noise than I think is worth repeating.

Like this:

They hid them in children's toys and first aid kits to kill civilians and children.

Soviet practice in Afghanistan, from what I recall.

The provocation failed: a sabotage group of SBU special forces was captured near Melitopol. They intended to carry out a series of terrorist attacks against the civilian population in the city and pass it off as the actions of the Russian military.

Wasn't that how Putin created the casus belli for Chechnya?

Anyone who has been paying attention knows this is garbage; if any of it has happened, it's the Russians getting back what they started.

I post what I can find in Russian mainly, but also in Ukrainian. I won't post information from western news sources because frankly they are a buncha blithering idiots when it comes to eastern Europe.

Signal vs Noise is always a problem. If you are into those 'book' things, something that helped me see through the noise was reading Robert Cialdini's Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion. It lays out a handful of techniques that salesmen, telemarketers, advertisers, government, and the media use to persuade people to like, buy, act, and think in a particular way. It is a short book, but I found it eye-opening. Once you see the techniques in play, you will never look at the world in the same way.

#1  Remember Ukraine’s Zelenskyy is an Israeli Jew which means he hooked directly with the Rothschild Banking Cartel. You know, the guys congress sold the USA central bank to on Dec 23, 1913. You know, the banking cartel that has started most of Earth’s wars since the battle of Waterloo in the early 1800’s. The guys that are responsible for the deaths of at least 130 million people since the start of WWI. That is the reason ET aliens won’t have anything to do with we humans. For example the Cenos ETs from Proxima b have found a way to cure nearly all diseases.

I am glad Putin got rid of Zelenskyy. Putin also kicked the Rothschilds out of Russia unlike our corrupt Uncle Sam that welcomed them into our country!

#3  re #1: I understand completely. My 80 year old wife is also a Jew and is also hooked directly with the Rothschild Banking Cartel. Despite that advantage she still has to spend her time tutorong children so that she can afford to drive her 18 year old car on those extranvagant shopping trips she takes to buy things like groceries and medicines.

You might want to take advantage of some of those medicines yourself; those medicines that you can get from the Cenos ETs when they're taking a break from hunting down the Jews.

You might also want to take a break from typing; typing that greenish-brownish-yellowish drivel that tends to run down the front of your clothes after it has erupted from that sinful scar you refer to as your mouth.

I feel much better now, thank you.

#5  The nut of ZMan's argument here:

These are people who lack all meaning in life. The reason they all swarmed to the Ukraine stuff is that it allowed them to experience what they imagine is normal human emotion and community spirit. Their conjured image of the brave Ukrainians taking up arms against the aggressor reflects their own lack of purpose. Many Americans have been reduced to the bug-man existence of consuming product but the Cloud People are the pinnacle of the bug-man lifestyle.

This is why they are so fond of using analogies drawn from comic book movies and children’s books. You will notice that the people comparing Putin to Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter movies are childless. They did not pick up the reference from watching the shows with their kids. They are the primary consumers of this material. This fantasy material has become folklore for people who lack the cultural structure that provides an adult frame of reference to understand the world.

#10  Mr. Wife picked up a copy at the airport on his way back from somewhere when it first came out, because all his colleagues were raving about it. He never enjoyed children’s lit, even as a child, so passed it on to me to add to my personal collection. A lot of the older books now designated for children were in fact originally written for adults, a fact I’ve always found heartening given some of the crap written intentionally for children over the past century. The trailing daughters picked through my books as well as acquiring their own once they became fluent readers; they enjoyed Harry Potter, and it connected them to American culture after spending their early years abroad (where the children were also reading Harry Potter). The parents of td#1’s best friend at the time forbad the child to read that black magic stuff, which let me have some useful conversations with the tds.

[ConservativeUS] Ukraine: Transgender Woman Weeps As Authorities Classify Them As ‘Men’ Who Must Stay Behind And Fight.

Transgender women in Ukraine say they are “completely trapped” and “frightened for their life” since their passports list them as “guys” rather than “women.”

Because all of their identification cards say “male” and reference their “previous masculine names,” two Ukrainian trans women claim they can’t leave the country or even safely travel through it.

Human rights organizations have encouraged some trans persons to “forget their ID” in order to leave Ukraine. According to trans activists, “hundreds” of trans individuals in Ukraine are in “severe danger” and feel “totally alone” as a result of this situation.

One trans woman expressed her fear of being caught while attempting to leave Ukraine and being compelled to join the Ukrainian army “as a male” – especially because authorities are preventing men between the ages of 18 and 60 from leaving.

Another trans lady in Ukraine is afraid to leave her home for fear of being attacked by transphobes. In her neighborhood, she’s the only one remaining.

#1  ...I don't have a problem with how anyone wants to dress, or which of however many hundreds of genders they want to identify with, or whatever pronouns they prefer.

I truly don't. You do you, live and be well.

But it's telling that for starters the folks mentioned here in TFA seem to be putting their personal considerations ahead of their nation's survival...not to mention that if/when the Russians come, their cultural attitude is that people like him/her are perverts who will be told, both mentally and physically, that they are not worthy of respect or kindness.

I understand the fear here, I truly do. But just as a thought experiment, what would happen if the world saw trans men and women picking up rifles to defend their homes?

#2  Thanks for the visual, Mike. While I have an enormous tolerance for eccentricity the tranny community rejects tolerance. They want to be applauded and cheered, and whatever you do, don't be the first one to stop applauding.

I am afraid I also subscribe to the concept, old and hidebound though it may be that an individual who cannot/will not reconcile themselves to physical reality is delusional. And though I feel they should be approached with compassion, the social order ought not be over turned for their delusions. That and in the name of all that's Holy nobody should be distributing weapons to people with obvious mental and emotional issues.

It's all about the gummint and corporations coercing you to validate the select lifestyle choices of others. It's not anywhere near the ideal of "live and let live."

And never mind that the US gummint and corps still suck up to nations and cultures that still belive in hanging, burning, stoning, imprisoning and enslaving the people they will toss you out of you job over if you say the wrong thing or fail to say the right thing often enough.

Ukraine destroys bridge connecting the Odessa region with Transnistria
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine blew up the railway bridge connecting the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic with the Odessa region of Ukraine. This was reported on March 4 by residents of the villages of Pervomaisk and Kuchurgan, located on the border along the Kuchurgan River.

Recall that since February 24, the Russian Armed Forces have been conducting a special military operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine. Parts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine are resisting the Russian Armed Forces, and are also systematically destroying the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine itself in order to create a humanitarian catastrophe in this country.

A large number of Ukrainian citizens are fleeing the country, but the national battalions are deliberately disrupting the organization of humanitarian corridors in order to use civilians as human shields.

In addition to part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, they undermine road and railway bridges, thereby trying to prevent the advance of Russian troops.

Russia Claims Ukraine SBU Shot Down Own Negotiator Over Suspected treason
[REPUBLICWORLD] According to Moscow, Ukraine's SBU shot down its negotiator during an arrest attempt after the state intelligence suspected him of leaking information.

In a massive claim, Russia on Saturday alleged that Ukraine had killed one of its own negotiators due to suspected 'treason'. According to Moscow, Ukraine's Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) shot down its negotiator Denis Kireev during an arrest attempt. The state intelligence suspected him of leaking information pertaining to the negotiation process to the Russian side.

"SBU kills a member of Ukrainian negotiations team suspected of treason. According to Ukrainska Pravda sources, the man was killed during an arrest attempt. Strong evidence" that he was leaking information to Russia," The Kyiv Independent reported.

Notably, Denis Kireev was present during the first round of Russia-Ukraine talks in Belarus where he was last photographed. An official statement from the Ukraine side is awaited. The development, if proven to be true, could have significant repercussions and send a strong message amid the negotiation process.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine confirmed the death of one of the negotiators with Russia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] A member of the Ukrainian delegation at the talks with Russia, Denis Kireev, died in the course of a special task. This was announced on March 5 by the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

It is specified that in the course of performing a special task, three intelligence officers who were employees of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine were killed. These are Dolya Alexey Ivanovich, Chibineev Valery Viktorovich, Kireev Denis Borisovich. The department noted that the dead were "professionals dedicated to their work" who "died defending Ukraine."

In turn, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Dubinsky claimed that Kireev was killed while being detained by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on suspicion of treason.

Recall that Deni Kireev was a member of the delegation of negotiators from Ukraine in the Gomel region on February 28, 2022.

In Ukraine. The situation on the morning of 03/05/22
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
Commentary by Russian blogger Andrey Chervonets

[Chervonec] The main goals of the Russian army at the moment

- the main efforts are focused on the encirclement of Kyiv and Kharkov

- Access to the administrative borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, creation of a land corridor to the Crimea

- Creation of a bridgehead for movement to Odessa

Now in more detail. so

Southern and Donetsk direction
The Russian Armed Forces advanced yesterday to the city of Voznesensk, which is 80 km northwest of Nikolaev, and entrenched themselves in the settlement of Rakovo, adjacent to Voznesensk. Nearby, in the village of Andreichikovo, a Russian landed, occupied this settlement, gaining a foothold on the western bank of the Southern Bug River.

Nikolaev is blocked. Most likely, if the offensive is not stopped by a temporary truce, the city will be gradually cleared, and the main strike group will go to Odessa. So far, there are no active operations in Odessa and the region - negotiations are underway and the weather is waiting for the landing of amphibious assault forces in the Odessa area. At the moment, landing ships are experiencing bad weather just to the west of Crimea.

Mariupol is blocked and slowly cleared. So far, concentrations and strongholds of the National Battalion are being identified, which are then precisely and effectively destroyed. Today, a silence regime will be established in Mariupol from 10.00 to 17.00 Moscow time, the evacuation of civilians will begin from 12.00.

After the blockade of Mariupol, the troops launched an offensive to the north-west and occupied Pologi, the city of 20 thousand people is an important road junction - 88 km along the highway to Zaporozhye in the west, 17 km from the north - Wild Field, to the east the road to the DPR.

Fighting in Volnovakha.
The city is 3/4 under the DPR army. In the rest of the city, the militants of the national battalion "Donbass" have settled down, they are resisting because they do not count on mercy, but they do not stand on ceremony with them.

In the future, we can expect:
- the advance of the RF Armed Forces towards Zaporozhye, Gulyai Polya and Pavlograd.

- a counter offensive by a Russian group from Balakley.

If successful, a group of a dozen brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is concentrated in the Donetsk and Luhansk directions, will be cut off from the rest of Ukraine. The main forces of the Ukrainian army are located here near Kramatorsk, Slavyansk in the DPR and Lysichansk, Severodnetsk in the LPR.

Central direction
Along Chernihiv and Sumy is nothing new.

Kharkov. Now there are battles for the small town of Dergachi, numbering 20 thousand inhabitants, which is a few kilometers northwest of Kharkov .. As soon as the town can be taken, Kharkov finds itself in a complete tactical environment.

I repeat.: the Russian grouping from the Balakleya region hangs from the north, practically from the rear over the brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, concentrated in the Dobass

Kyiv
From here it is already possible to develop an offensive to the south and cover the capital from the west, but so far relatively quietly. It is not yet clear whether this was caused by the regrouping of Russian forces or negotiations with the Ukrainian side.

Two rounds of negotiations took place, with a third round just around the corner. Kyiv’s negotiators seem to keep promising to take on some kind of framework obligations, but in their traditions, they endlessly delay this moment (it is possible that later they will refuse promises, explaining that they were misunderstood.

Ukrainian TG channels report that the third round of negotiations should bring a truce to Ukraine, and in the next few hours the Parliament will vote behind closed doors documents that will allow de-escalation to begin.

All bills are adopted classified as secret, which is justified by the military situation in the country. At the meeting with the Russian delegation, pasochnye agreements were concluded, which should be ratified by Ukraine. We'll see how this all plays out.

In my personal opinion, anything can be accepted in the Ukrainian parliament. As well as OT to accept back quickly.

Kyiv's goal is to drag out the negotiations and a possible truce as much as possible, and then, as we have seen more than once, simply refuse to fulfill the agreements, arguing that they interpret these agreements in a completely different way and contrary to what is written.

Ukraine volunteer ‘hacker’ corps fights Russia with cyberattacks, intel and infowar
Of particular interest to the many programming professionals and amateurs who hang out here at Rantburg. US Cyber Command gets a mention in the final paragraphs.
[IsraelTimes] Hackers’ actions range from taking down official Russian sites, reporting troop locations, and even offering instructions on assembling Molotov cocktails and basic first aid

Formed in a fury to counter Russia’s blitzkrieg attack, Ukraine’s hundreds-strong volunteer "hacker" corps is much more than a paramilitary cyberattack force in Europe’s first major war of the internet age. It is crucial for information combat and crowdsourcing intelligence.

"We are really a swarm. A self-organizing swarm," said Roman Zakharov, a 37-year-old IT executive at the center of Ukraine’s bootstrap digital army.

T-72 VS Javelin Missile (video)
[YouTube] In recent months Russian T-72B3M and some older T-72B variants have been seen with a new, special "sun visor" bolted to their turrets to prevent strikes from top-attack munitions, particularly the American FGM-148 Javelin antitank guided missile. Despite appearing to be relatively inexpensive this could grant the T-72 or any tank ever for that matter the ability to defend itself from attacks coming in at a very high angle without requiring expensive hard-kill active protection systems.

#6  Just before the war began, the Ukrainians set up derelict armored vehicle with a steel roof cage and fired a Javelin at it. It the warhead sliced through the cage, the turret top and out the side.

There is one theory that detonating the warhead 1-1.5 meters from the tank actually increases penetration because the plasma jet is better formed when it reaches the hull.

...That is actually true - in fact, some AT missiles have a probe at the nose to set this effect up quite nicely. That feature has kind of faded with improvements in warhead design, or the two-warhead solution JAVELIN uses, but it can still be found quite readily.

One thing I've noticed - and I will cheerfully admit to error here - is I've not seen a lot of pics of destroyed Russian tanks with reactive armor. This was supposed to be the Last Word in tank defense at the time, but turned out to only be really useful for older tanks (think M48/60, T-55/62). Improvements in armor tech pretty much bypassed it for anything except use in urban combat, and two-warhead weapons like JAVELIN pretty much make it pointless.

I had one individual some years ago expound on how RA would make the A-10s gun useless. When he was done, an A-10 pilot smiled, looked at him and said, "Yeah, it'll likely stop the first three or four rounds. It's the hundred or so right behind it that he's gotta worry about."

On Saturday alone, the Ukrainian military shot down eight Russian manned and unmanned aircraft. More specifically, Ukrainian air defenses destroyed one Su-30SM Flanker multirole fighter jet, one Su-34 Fullback strike jet, two Su-25 attack jets, two Mi-24/35 attack helicopters, one Mi-8 transport helicopter, and one Orlan-10 unmanned aerial system.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, in the ten days of war, the Ukrainian military has shot down 44 Russian fighter, attack, and transport aircraft and 44 helicopters. And U.S. defense officials assess that the Ukrainian Air Force can still conduct sorties and maintains overall air superiority.
American-provide FIM-92 Stinger anti-aircraft Man-Portable, Air Defense Missile Systems (MANPADS) have played an important role in ensuring that Russian aircraft don’t operate freely over Ukraine.
