Career criminal busted for attempted murder of NYC tourist wearing $100K watch
[NYPOST] A career criminal with a lengthy rap sheet, including slugging a 76-year-old man in January, is charged with shooting a tourist for his pricey watch outside a four-star Midtown hotel, police told The Post Wednesday.Nathaniel Owens, 35, who is also on parole for a 2012 weapons rap, was hit with attempted murder charges in the March 18 attack outside the Fifty Hotel & Suites by Affinia in Midtown, the NYPD said.

He was arraigned Wednesday and ordered held without bail.

Prosecutors said Owens attacked tourist Pierrick Jamaux, 33, who was visiting from Hong Kong, and shot him multiple times in the legs and groin to get at his $100,000 Richard Mille timepiece.

Jamaux frequently flashed the ritzy watch on social media.

The cryptocurrency expert later told The Post that he had "absolutely no clue who did this" — only that it was "to steal my watch."

'There is no law': Father and son stabbed in Queens blast NYC crime surge
[NYPOST] The father and son duo hailed as heroes for fighting off a pack of goons robbing an elderly woman near their Queens pizza shop said Wednesday the city’s crime scourge has forced them to take public safety into their own hands.

"People have to protect themselves, because the government is not doing it," Cazim Suljovic, 68, told The Post from his bed at Elmhurst Hospital, where he’s recovering from a punctured lung and nine stab wounds.

"There is no law. This is why the people do it. You can stand outside your own door, with many people in the street, and you’re still not safe."

On Saturday evening, Cazim and his son Louie, a 38-year-old military veteran,
...sheepdogs protecting, whether or not they’re wearing the uniform — heroes, both...
were toiling at their Elmhurst pizzeria, Louie’s, when the father spotted a 61-year-old woman being robbed outside of their restaurant.

Robert Whack, 30, his brother-in-law Supreme Gooding, 18, and a third, un-apprehended suspect had allegedly stolen the Korean woman’s purse and stabbed her in the back, prosecutors said.

"I see a lady on the floor and three people around her. I say, ’What are they doing?’ They’re robbing her," Cazim recounted, calling the perpetrators "f—kng bastards" and "animals."

#4  Simply evil. The author of this article says it well-- "evil laid bare."

When you have executives of the most powerful entity with access to the imaginations of children on planet Earth openly admitting, even bragging, about their work propagandizing and indoctrinating children into queerness and gender ideology, the evil is laid bare.

Nobody has an excuse now not to know this. You moms and dads who let your kids watch the Disney Channel, and consume Disney products — what are you going to do? Look away? Don’t you dare look away. The responsibility is now yours. What are you going to do about it?

Biden to receive second COVID-19 booster shot
[Washington Examiner] President Joe Biden will receive his second COVID-19 booster shot, days after the extra Pfizer and Moderna doses were approved by federal public health officials for people ages 50 and older.

Biden will roll up his sleeve after remarks Wednesday afternoon, in which he is expected to urge Congress to appropriate more emergency pandemic funding and unveil a website to be a one-stop shop for coronavirus information, according to a White House official.

"The shot will be administered by a member of the White House Medical Unit," the official said.

The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made the decision regarding the second boosters for the age group, as well as younger immunocompromised people, without consulting their independent vaccine advisory committees. These people are eligible for the shots four months after their last doses.

The move raised questions given Biden's insistence he would "follow the science," but it also coincides with concerns that the BA.2 omicron variant will result in another wave in the coming weeks.

The new website, COVID.gov, combines Vaccines.gov and COVIDTests.gov. It also provides information about masks and, for the first time, treatments in English, Spanish, and Chinese.

JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs are scooping up Russian corporate and government bonds at rock-bottom prices in hope of turning massive post-war profit
[NYPost] Wall Street banks and hedge funds including JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs are scooping up Russian corporate and government bonds at rock-bottom prices in the hopes of turning a massive post-war profit, according to reports.

The risky investments come as other finance giants who specialize in snapping up distressed debt have stayed on the sidelines, noting that Russia has been sanctioned and ostracized from the Western economy because of its brutal military invasion of Ukraine.

The sanctions, which do not prohibit Western financial entities from trading in Russian bonds, have reduced demand for Russian corporate and government debt while creating irresistibly high yields.
Either they’ll make a killing or lose their shirts. In the meantime, they’re making a market for those who otherwise would be unable to sell.

Army Reducing Its Numbers in Face of Recruiting Difficulties
So failing recruiting gives positive performance?
[Breitbart] The Army this week admitted it was having problems recruiting and announced an unprecedented reduction in its numbers that would shrink the active duty Army to its smallest size since World War II.

“We’re facing, obviously, some challenging conditions in terms of our ability to recruit and attract talent,” Under Secretary of the Army Gabe Camarillo said at a press conference on Monday.

Camarillo blamed a “very tight labor market” for the Army’s recruiting woes.

“What we’re just seeing is given the particular conditions of a very tight labor market, our ability to meet all of our projected recruiting goals were a little bit challenged in FY ’22 and FY ’23,” he said.

Camarillo said the Army’s end strength, or total number of forces, would go from 485,000 soldiers currently to 476,000 in fiscal year 2022, which ends in September, and further down to 473,000 in fiscal year 2023.

He said the Army decided on reducing its recruitment goals instead of lowering standards.

“We made the assessment that we would not want to adjust our specific criteria for quality,” he said. “And so, we made the decision to just temporarily reduce end strength, as opposed to lowering our standards.”

He added that the Army hoped to build back its numbers over the next five years.

“We don’t anticipate that it is a lasting change,” Camarillo said. “It is something that we hope to bring back up over the course of the fight up. And it’s something that we certainly think is reflective of what we hope to be transient conditions in the labor market.”

Retired Army Lt. Gen. Thomas Spoehr, director of the Heritage Foundation’s Center for National Defense, called the situation unprecedented.

“The Army has not faced such recruiting headwinds in the last 30 years. I am unaware of a situation where the Army has cut its end strength in response to a negative recruiting outlook,” he said.

Spoehr also attributed the decision to the Biden Administration keeping the Army budget below inflation.

“If the Biden administration was not holding the Army’s budget below the level of inflation, I am not sure they would have had to resort to cutting their end strength,” he said.

The reduction would bring the Army to its smallest since 1940, according to Military Times.

Spoehr said the Army’s decision would make units less capable:

The Army has said that rather than reduce the number of units, they will instead man units at a lower level. So, the Army’s companies and battalions, rather than being manned at say 95-100%, with this end strength cut, the Army may only be able to fill them to a 90% level. That means less capable units.

The recruiting difficulties come as the Army has begun discharging soldiers not complying with the Biden administration’s coronavirus vaccine mandate. More than 4,000 requested a religious exemption, but only two were granted, according to recent Army statistics. An additional 2,735 soldiers have refused.

The difficulties are also despite the Army last year launching animated recruitment advertisements that highlighted women, minorities, immigrants, and the LGBT community, as previously reported by Breitbart News.

Spoehr called the Army’s recruiting difficulties “a perfect storm, all hitting in 2022.”

First, he said fewer and fewer individuals even qualify to enlist. He said:

The biggest disqualifying factors are obesity, fitness and mental health issues. This should not come as a surprise. Obesity in America, including among youth, continues to increase. More and more youth are being treated for mental health issues and being prescribed psychotropic drugs for treatment. Current numbers coming out of the Pentagon are that the percentage of individuals qualified to enlist without a waiver has dropped from 29% in 2016 to less than 25% in 2022.

Second, he said fewer and fewer individuals are interested in joining the military, also in part thanks to the Biden administration’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal:

There are economic reasons for this, many companies are now offering more generous compensation packages that include college tuition to graduating high school seniors. There are lots of jobs available now. And over time American society has placed less and less value on the idea of public service. The disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan has also caused some to question our military and their competence.

Finally, he cited the perception that the military is becoming “woke.”

“There is a sense among the American public that the military is becoming increasingly political and that topics such as race and gender equity, critical race theory, and wokeism in general are commanding more attention, at the cost of readiness,” he said.

Public polls have backed up that assessment. Earlier this year, a Gallup poll showed that the public view of military leaders has dropped, and a Ronald Reagan Institute poll last year showed that high confidence in the military has dropped.

Spoehr added: “I should note that it is my assessment that for the first time ever, it may turn out that none of the military services will make their recruiting goals for 2022. The Air Force in particular is sounding the alarm.”

#9  Russians rally around Putin as his approval ratings soar
THE NEW YORK TIMES
March 31, 2022, 8:17 a.m. ET
Ivan Nechepurenko <- that's a Ukrainian reporter

President Vladimir V. Putin’s approval ratings have reached levels unseen in years, according to an independent poll released on Thursday, as many Russians rally around the flag in the face of mounting international pressure.

Eighty-three percent of Russians said they approved of Mr. Putin’s actions, up from 69 percent in January, according to a poll by the Levada Center, an independent pollster in Moscow. Ratings of many other government institutions, as well as the governing party, have also gone up, the poll indicated.

The poll by Levada — which has been declared a “foreign agent” in Russia — was conducted among more than 1,600 people across the country, with the margin of error not exceeding 3.4 percentage points.

Denis Volkov, Levada’s director, said that initial feelings of “shock and confusion” that many Russians felt at the start of the Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine was being replaced with the belief that Russia is besieged and that its people must rally around their leader.

The confrontation with the West has consolidated people,” Mr. Volkov said, adding that some respondents said that while they generally did not support Mr. Putin, now was the time to do so. According to that line of thinking, he said, people believe that “everyone is against us” and that “Putin defends us, otherwise we would be eaten alive.”

So the American president declares economic war on Russia, gives billions of dollars worth of weapons to Ukraine, announces he's going to overthrow the Russian government like the Americans have overthrown dozens of governments around the world. And we expect a great nation to just collapse and whimper like pathetic little Libya or Iraq?

Did we think the Russians don't have legitimate fears or feelings of national pride?

The degree of misunderstanding and hubris on display is simply amazing

#14  About 20-25% of the Russians are what westerners would call liberals or progressives living mainly in Moscow and St Petersburg; they're fairly solidly against Putin. They're like the SPD in Germany or Labour in the U.K., or the hard core of the Democrats in the US: Bernie Sanders or Ocasio-Cortez types, or maybe your typical left-lib Disney executive.

The rest of the population ranges from suspicious of the West to downright hostile. Some are religious, others not, but all of them think the western "woke" movement is batshit crazy. They want nothing to do with the freakishness and cultural self-hatred you see on full display across New York, Berlin, Paris, London. These people -- they're the majority -- are enraged by the West's hypocrisy in supporting American invasions, botched wars and meddling in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria. And the US coup in Kiev is esoecially infuriating to them.

But you will NEVER find a Russian leader, no matter how progressive or pro-Western, who supports the idea of unilateral Russian disarmament in the face of a hostile and aggressive, encroaching Nato. Won't happen.

Putin and his high command reportedly have moved to secret bunkers as threats of nuclear war escalate
[American Thinker] Thanks to imbecilic comments by President Biden, the threat of nuclear war just got a lot more serious if new reports are to be believed. The estimable David Goldman (AKA Spengler), writing with Uwe Parpart, warns us:

What does Vladimir Putin have to do to convince Washington that the Ukraine crisis is a preliminary skirmish in what might be a nuclear war? On February 23, Putin warned of nuclear war. On February 19, he conducted a full-dress drill of Russian ballistic missile forces. On February 27, he put Russia on a nuclear alert — which remains in effect.Joe Biden didn't get the message.

Then on March 29, Moscow sent a red-alarm signal to the West by leaking news that "Putin and his high command have decamped to secret bunkers, following a Kremlin statement that Russia would use nuclear weapons to counter an 'existential threat,'" the Daily Mail reported, citing investigations by journalist Christo Grozev.

Putin is very likely to use a small tactical nuke on Ukrainian hold-out cities. The West has been notified. Putin and his high command are simply taking precautionary measures.

The West will not respond militarily. Emergency UN meetings will be announced. An international crisis will be declared followed by National emergency actions. Elections will be postponed. Travel will be restricted. Food, medicine, and fuel rationing will commence. The sale of firearms and ammunition will be suspended. Congress goes on an extended national emergency holiday. Biden and Harris cannot be found, are assumed to be in seclusion.

In the hope of de-escalating the tensions, US and Euro military aid to Ukraine will be immediately terminated.

This is a crisis damn it! It could go on for months, even years! You must do your part.

Already have. Gas rationing in Germany. Diesel rationing in the Netherlands. Food rationing in France.

The Financial Times opines that covid restrictions have conditioned the serfs public to accept repression: "what manifests merely as higher food and energy prices in the northern hemisphere will show up as famine in parts of the developing world. In the short term, wealthy European economies should be able to persuade companies and individuals to contribute to ending the horrors endured by Ukrainians. It is spring and turning down the heating is not a big ask for most. Two years of stringent government anti-Covid measures may even have conditioned people to lower their expectations in the wider interest (though anti-lockdown protests suggest the reverse is also possible)."

#6  First off, it is American Stinker Thinker. They have retracted things in the past for being (and this is a quote) Thomas Lifson (one of the founders and leaders) wrote that American Thinker published statements that were "completely false and have no basis in fact." and that they were based on discredited sources and American Thinker was“wrong to publish these false statements.” (cite

Now assuming they aren't blowing smoke and its not just posturing by Putin:

Target might be Mariupol. They don't want the port or city, they want it gone - cleared so they can use it as a highway to Crimea and turn the Sea of Azov into a Russian Lake again. That's why they are systematically reducing the city to rubble. Bonus for Putin popping a tac nuke there is that he supposedly hits a stronghold for the so-called "Nazi" Azov Battalion.

0.3kt would probably be used. Probably an airburst to reduce fallout issues. And probably in the center of the pocket to avoid water/coastal areas (for fallout reasons) and to avoid the highways around the perimeter the Russians want to use.

Iskander missiles can carry that and they have been in more or less constant use in Ukraine with conventional warheads.

Conveniently 0.3kt is the lowest yield on the US Mk61mod3 "Dial a nuke" bomb, available as a pre-set on Nukemap to see the effects, radius, etc.

So look for a pullback around Mariupol as a sign of bad things.

As an aside, Ukraine has reportedly been shelling targets over the border in Russian territory. Someone needs to tell them to stop doing stupid crap like that. It reason enou8gh to cite as a provocation. Damned reckless fools.

#9  Putin's invasion if Ukraine is wildly popular with the Russian people. His approval ratings have gone up significantly and stayed sky high since the invasion -- 78% of Russians approve of Putin's performance. The American pollster Mark Mellman summarizes the data:

"According to polls by the independent and reliable Levada Center, Putin’s approval rating has been at or above 59 percent in every reading for the past 20 years. In February, as his buildup on the Ukrainian border progressed, but before the invasion began, Putin’s approval rose to 71 percent.

VCIOM, a polling form owned by the Russian government, similarly pegged Putin’s approval in the low to mid-sixties throughout the year, and also saw it rise as the war against Ukraine commenced. Indeed, its most recent reading on March 20 has 78 percent of Russians approving of Putin’s performance.

#11  The Russians including the overwhelming majority of the Russian people are dead serious. This war is in their view existential -- a necessary last-ditch effort to prevent US missiles eventually being being placed a few hundred km from Moscow.

That's about five minutes' distance, and Russia would not be able to intercept those missiles. The Russians believe they are fighting an existential threat.

In his article in The Hill linked above, US pollster Mark Mellman also cites the solid work of an American pollster:

Some of those who have produced surveys recently are fine people with excellent reputations for integrity, and it would seem some of them believe their surveys are producing real and useful information. One of the things they’re finding is support for Putin’s war, at least in its early days.

Noted American pollster Gary Langer helped bring to public attention a survey conducted by serious Russian researchers in the early days of the war; it found 58 percent of their countrymen approved of the invasion, 46 percent strongly so. Only about 23 percent opposed the war.

That bill includes: ration cards for gas and food. Spiraling deficits. Hyperinflation. Recession. Hunger and starvation across the Near and Far East as well as Africa. Wars and revolutions in many countries because of food scarcity. Disruptions to every major industry. Redoubling of government control and repression.

Were the western publics informed about this parade of horribles that necessarily attends upon western policy toward Russia? I don't believe so. Do you have evidence to the contrary?

No, of course Matt doesn't. The survey questions posed in the US (including at least one constituent questionnaire sent by a US congressman) asked only whether the respondent would be willing to pay higher gas prices as a result of sanctions.

Nowhere are Americans being told about inevitable consequences such as a steep decline in US living standards, about rationing, about hyperinflation or recession. Let alone 10 million or more deaths from starvation and chaos, wars and revolutions around the world.

I think they're a bit low on quality external intelligence assets in Russia. China overtook them in number of plants in DC, and Langley may be riddled with closet sunnis, globalists and other critters but very less russkie spies. Also, osint has really made players lazy and incompetent. So the Russians were truly alarmed at Biden's foolhardy statements.

Or they knew it's all hot air and took the opportunity to wave their radioactive shlongs in faces.

Truth is, the deepState in America cannot afford to piss off Russia. It cannot undertake any more grand plans in Russia. And no matter how many fags, clueless poc appointees or crazy wimmin Langley absorbs in service, there're always some clever chaps plugged into the other side doing their job right in the CIA. They will tell you Biden can stuff it, there's going to be no 'Russian Spring' or sponsored Navalnys or zero dark attempts on Vlad. I'll bet all the military and intelligence part of the deepState are doing right now is calling up their friends in the Kremlin trying to convince them that whatever Biden utters is worth jack and shit. Maybe they're also looking to replace him with the pliant kind 'leader' they want.

There is no existential threat to Russia. The only existential threat is to America, and most of it from within. And it can't be circumvented or surmounted by making enemies of a nuclear powered State with a bad case of авось.

#20  OR They knew it's all hot air and took the opportunity to wave their radioactive shlongs in faces.

This. They've seen five US presidents come and go. They have no expectations or assumptions of rational behavior from US leaders after all they've seen these past 30 years. Review:

Clinton was a clever asshole. He lied to the Russians and humiliated them in Russia and the Balkans and began Nato's expansion east in violation of Janes Baker's promises.

W was an unclever asshole. He took Putin's good faith offer of help after 9/11, ignored the warnings about the Iraq disaster put Tomahawk missiles in Poland and pretended they were for "defence", expanded NATO still further and then humiliated Russia with yet another declared Nato expansion, to Ukraine and Georgia in W's infamous Bucharest Declaration in 2008.

Obama was a fool and a flaming asshole who pretended to be friendly while sneering idiotically that "Russia has nothing that the world wants" and humiliating Russia (and the US) with disastrous interventions in Libya and Ukraine and Syria. Once again, more NATO expansion, this time with actual military advisors training and bulking up Ukraine's military to "go on offense," as Sen. Lindsay Graham fond Ukrainian elite troops in 2016.

Trump restored a brief moment of sanity to US Russia policy, combining respect and toughness-- exactly the way the Russians and every great power expect to be treated. Then Trump was overthrown in a rigged election.

And now shit for brains demented Papa Joe Biden. The Russians are now like, "OK, what's new?"

From the Ukie perspective, that's not a bad idea. *Everyone* would blame it on the Rus because nobody would nuke their own city just for a propaganda victory, amirite?

OK, it's not just a media victory, it also denies use of the port to its eventual owners for however many half-lifes it takes to cool down.

Russia continues bombardment of Ukrainian cities despite peace talk claims
[NYPOST] Russian forces continued to attack the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Chernihiv on Wednesday as a small number of Russian units withdrew — just hours after Moscow pledged to "increase mutual trust" by de-escalating its military presence around those same cities.A round of Russian shelling hit a slew of civilian sites, including residential areas and at least one library, Ukrainian officials said Wednesday. The attacks came alongside renewed Russian aggression in the eastern Donbas region.

Russia claimed Tuesday that it would "radically" reduce its attacks around Kyiv and Chernihiv as a goodwill gesture amid the peace talks recently convened in Istanbul.

"Given that the talks on the preparation of an agreement on the neutrality and non-nuclear status of Ukraine have moved into a practical field ... a decision has been made to radically, by several times, reduce the military activity in the areas of Kyiv and Chernihiv," Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin had said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky replied Tuesday, "you can trust only concrete results."

#3  Official institutions and media outlets, and rantburg in particular are deliberately spreading lies, this is poisonous and destroys their credibility. I can never again listen to an American military spokesman and trust a single word coming out of his mouth.

Of course I’m sure some people in here will be quick to point out that the American government has lied about many things before. Well, yes. But I as a human being can only speak out of my own personal awareness. My nagging doubts about my government were all confirmed by this war.
Dear Fred and dear readers:

Information wars are won by the truth

As far as I can reasonably tell, the Russian MoD have told the truth and done their best to not distribute false information. This is the first and main reason I argue that Russia is not losing the information war. Both Ukraine and their NATO masters utterly destroyed their credibility, nothing they say can be believed
Information wars are won by the truth.
There is this idea that “both sides are equally bad” and everyone spreads disinformation. No. If a general or government spokesman says something, it should and absolutely must be a true statement, not a lie. If he says that 20 enemy tanks have been destroyed, that must be a true statement. If he says that we have had 500 soldiers killed in action, this must be a true statement. See, if a general lies about enemy casualties, and his own casualties, nothing he says can be trusted. This is why it is so important for official spokesmen and outlets to not tell lies.
Our governments in the West want us to believe that everyone lies like them and it’s just not true. Our governments lie, and the Russian government tells the truth. Or at least they try to tell the truth, and frankly, telling the truth is genuinely not hard if you make an honest attempt. Anyone with a functioning brain should be able to see that now.

Rantburg, as far as I can tell, is one if the few media outlets which presents both sides of the war, unfiltered. We want our readers to choose whom they believe, and for the most part, they have chosen.

*snip*

As far as I can reasonably tell, the Russian MoD have told the truth and done their best to not distribute false information. This is the first and main reason I argue that Russia is not losing the information war. Both Ukraine and their NATO masters utterly destroyed their credibility, nothing they say can be believed

Russian and Ukrainian military authorities are telling their version of events. As I have pointed out elsewhere, they may lie, but they cannot lie about everything. Time and space is one element they cannot lie about.

The Russian and Ukrainian MoDs has been professional in their news presentations. The Ukrainian have been less so, lamentably.

News presentations are only as good as the gatherers and your bosses allow it to be.

#7  Did any American news outlet infirm their readers as to Putin's stated justification for the war? There was a great deal of opinion, lots of "analysis" aka spin, but we didn't see the actual relevant words the man said. For Russia, NATO’s expansion into Ukraine from the beginning has been viewed as the YS positioning for a potential nuclear war against or nuclear blackmail of Russia. No western outlet even mentioned that Putin alleges, with much evidence to support it, bad faith in the provocative US positioning of US missile "defense" systems in Eastern Europe.

Putin warned on February 23 that “positioning areas for interceptor missiles are being established in Romania and Poland as part of the US project to create a global missile defense system. It is common knowledge that the launchers deployed there can be used for Tomahawk cruise missiles – offensive strike systems…. In other words, the allegedly defensive US missile defense system is developing and expanding its new offensive capabilities.”

"The information we have gives us good reason to believe that Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the subsequent deployment of NATO facilities has already been decided and is only a matter of time [and] American strategic planning documents confirm the possibility of a so-called preemptive strike at enemy missile systems. We also know the main adversary of the United States and NATO. It is Russia… Ukraine will serve as an advanced bridgehead for such a strike.”

From the Russian Perspective: Operation on Denazification of Ukraine: operational summary March 30th (updated)
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[NewsFrontInfo] 18:33 The Russian Armed Forces took control of all the main lines of communications, supply and approach of the reserves of the Ukrainian army - the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

18:17 In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, the following have been destroyed: 124 aircraft and 77 helicopters, 214 anti-aircraft missile systems, 323 unmanned aerial vehicles, 1,767 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 186 multiple launch rocket systems, 741 field artillery guns and a mortar, as well as 1657 units of special military vehicles.

18:16 During the day, operational-tactical and unmanned aircraft hit 69 military facilities of Ukraine. Among them: three command posts, two installations of multiple launch rocket systems, eight warehouses of ammunition and rocket and artillery weapons, and 52 strong points and areas of concentration of military equipment.

18:10 Russian Defense Ministry statements:

All the main tasks of the Russian Armed Forces in the Kiev and Chernigov directions have been completed. A planned regrouping of troops is taking place in the Kiev and Chernigov directions. At the first stage of the operation, it was planned to force the enemy to concentrate forces to hold large cities, to forge them, these goals were achieved.

At the same time, the Russian army was solving another problem - in the absence of an influx of fresh enemy forces from the west and from the center of Ukraine, to create conditions for the final stage of the operation to liberate the republics of Donbass. This goal has also been achieved. The Russian military broke through the well-fortified defenses of the enemy, crossed the Shaitanka River and are fighting on the outskirts of Velikaya Novoselka. There is a cleansing from the nationalist formations of the settlement of Zolotaya Niva.

The forces of the LPR continue their offensive against Severodonetsk, battles are being fought to clear the settlement of Zhitlovka, Ukrainian nationalist battalions in the Severodonetsk direction are suffering serious losses. The Kyiv regime seriously considered the possibility of using biological weapons against the population of Donbass and Russia.

18:03 Volkssturm mined all the exits from Kharkov in order to prevent civilians from breaking into calm areas. The head of the investigative department of the Main Department of the Kharkiv National Police, Serhiy Bolvinov, reports that yesterday, two people were killed and five more were injured after being blown up by one of these mines. Demands people to stop trying to leave the war zone.

17:19 There are no active hostilities in the Izyum direction, local battles are taking place. Artillery skirmishes, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying to counterattack, but weakly. Everything was frozen in anticipation.

17:15 MLRS of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are working on the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the territory of the Nikolaev region from the Kherson region.

17:00 In Melitopol, which is under the control of Russian troops, the Eternal Flame was lit at the Mass Grave memorial.

16:32 There is irrefutable evidence that Kyiv was planning an attack on the Donbass - Medinsky.

16:31 “Shame” and “Killers of the children of Donbass” – such inscriptions were made by the residents of Kherson on the “ATO memorial”. Thus, the residents of Kherson demonstrated their true attitude towards the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who fought against the civilian population.

16:20 In Kherson continues distribution of humanitarian aid by the armed forces of the Russian Federation. More than a thousand residents of the city of Kherson received essential products delivered to the Kherson region from the Russian Federation. First of all, assistance from the Russian military was received by pensioners, the disabled and women with children.

15:43 Columns of Russian military equipment in Kherson.

13:57 An Italian journalist openly declares that many Western media distort information about the events in Ukraine, hiding the fact that Nazism flourished in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and terror against the civilian population.

12:58 The National Guard ensures order in the liberated Melitopol.

12:50 The Kyiv regime is using the building of the new city synagogue in Uman as a collection and transfer point for weapons and Nazis to participate in hostilities.

11:30 The S-300 complex of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, destroyed in the Zhytomyr region, near the town of Malin.

11:06 Russian Defense Ministry briefing:

- On March 20, President Zelensky, speaking with a video message to the Israeli Knesset, accused Russia of allegedly striking the city of Uman in the Cherkasy region. This is a cynical lie. During a special operation, the RF Armed Forces do not strike at civilian targets. Especially - for places of worship and any other places of public worship.

- The object of the Jewish cult in Uman is deliberately used by the Kiev nationalist regime for military purposes.

- In the area of the village of Tumen, Rivne region, near the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, a Su-24 of the Ukrainian Air Force was shot down during an air battle.

- High-precision missiles destroyed large fuel depots in the districts of Starokonstantinov and Khmelnitsky, from which fuel was supplied for armored vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donbass. OTRK "Iskander" destroyed two large depots of rocket and artillery weapons in Kamenka, Donetsk region.

- Aerospace Forces destroyed 10 Ukrainian UAVs in the areas of the settlements of Izyum, Novaya Kakhovka, Donetsk, Nikolaev, Berdyansk, Gorlovka, Luhansk and Rubizhne in a day.

10:40 Russian Ministry of Defense declares that:

  • - Kyiv orders the national battalions to shoot staged videos about the killings of civilians and looting allegedly committed by the Russian military;

  • - Neo-Nazis are holding more than 4.5 million citizens and 6.5 thousand foreigners;

  • - More than 19 thousand people were evacuated per day to the Russian Federation from dangerous regions of Ukraine, the DPR and the LPR;

  • — Over 22.5 thousand tons of humanitarian aid for Ukraine has been prepared in Russia;

  • - The Russian Federation keeps open a corridor for the exit of 60 foreign ships from Ukrainian ports.

09:48 Holiday troops Russian guards in the liberated Energodar.

09:17 On the night of March 27-28, on the territory of the Azovstal plant, crosses were made to receive Ukrainian helicopters, with the help of which they planned to evacuate the commander of the “Azov” Prokopenko and the commander of the 36th Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Baranyuk with a number of very important foreign mercenaries.

09:16 The US State Department has accused Putin of provoking a global food crisis. They recalled that the Black Sea region is responsible for 73% of world exports of sunflower oil, 30% of wheat grain exports and 20% of corn.

"The consequences of Putin's war extend far beyond the borders of Ukraine, posing an immediate threat to world food security. Make no mistake: Putin created this food crisis. And he is the only one who can stop it," Sherman, deputy head of the State Department, said.

00:11 Zelensky said that a new functionality is already available in Die to compensate for the destruction of houses or apartments as a result of hostilities.

00:02 British intelligence admits that Russia's statements about a decrease in activity around Kiev and the withdrawal of some units from these areas may indicate a recognition that the Russian Federation has lost the initiative in the region. It is likely that Russia will try to transfer combat power from the north to the offensive in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

India set to sharply ramp up imports from Russia, develop SWIFT alternative for rouble-trade as Lavrov visits
[Yahoo] Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is set to fly to India this week, sources said, finding time to visit to one of the biggest buyers of Russian commodities since the international community began isolating Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine.

There is little sign that buying will slow down any time soon, as more deals get signed. One source said the two countries could discuss smoothening trade payments disrupted by Western sanctions on Russian banks. Media have said he could hold talks in the Indian capital on Friday.

It will only be Lavrov's third visit overseas since Russia's Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine, after a trip to Turkey for talks with his Ukrainian counterpart earlier this month and a scheduled meeting in China on Thursday.

Russia is India's main supplier of defence hardware but overall annual trade is small, averaging about $9 billion in the past few years, mainly fertiliser and some oil. By comparison, India's bilateral trade with China is more than $100 billion a year.

But given sharp discounts on Russian crude oil since the attack on Ukraine, India has bought at least 13 million barrels, compared with nearly 16 million barrels imported from the country for the whole of last year. Many European countries have also continued to buy Russian energy despite publicly criticising Moscow.

#1  Why should India jeopardize its close and beneficial alliance with Russia by halting imports of arms, food and other vital supplies when the western nations aren't even halting their own gas purchases from Russia? For the love of Joe Biden? No thank you

#2  All this makes sense to me. Ukraine means as little to India as it means to us.

And with the US now proving we'll do our best to cripple you financially if you do something we don't like, India is wise to hedge its bets.

Someone bring back "The Ugly American." (Joe Biden and his coterie.)

China-Japan-Koreas
China gains a foothold in Australia's backyard
[BBC] Late last week, a proposed security treaty between China and a tiny chain of islands in the Pacific sent shock waves across the ocean.

The leaked draft signalled that China could deploy troops to the Solomon Islands - and potentially establish a naval base there.

Nowhere was more alarmed than the Solomons' neighbour to the south, Australia - the bedrock regional partner of the Aukus alliance, a new security pact in the Pacific Ocean with the US and UK.

"The details of this deal are still uncertain. But even if it's smaller than the feared military base, it would be China's first foothold in the Pacific," says Prof Alan Gyngell from the Australian Institute of International Affairs.

The Solomon Islands and Australia have long been interlinked. Since World War Two, Australia has been the islands' largest aid donor, development partner and until now the sole security partner.

Australia's government was rocked and likely blindsided by the move, analysts say. Not that it hadn't been warned. Five years ago, Canberra sensed that China was encroaching on its "backyard" with Solomon internal politics at the time also driving up Chinese loans and economic investment.

Solomons ready to sign security pact, denies pressure for China base

[BenarNews] A controversial security agreement with China is "ready for signing," the leader of the Solomon Islands told Parliament but without revealing the details, saying only that his government had not been pressured to let China build a naval base in the country.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare made the remarks to Parliament late Tuesday, according to multiple news reports. Neighboring powers have expressed concern over the pact that China has defended as normal cooperation with Pacific island nations.

"We are not pressured in any way by our new friends and there is no intention whatsoever to ask China to build a military base in the Solomon Islands," Sogavare was quoted as saying.

A draft agreement leaked online last week would allow Beijing to set up bases and deploy troops in the Solomon Islands, which lies about 1,700 km (1,050 miles) from the northeastern coast of Australia.

The document provoked fears in the region’s traditional powers, Australia and New Zealand, with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern saying that her country sees the pact as "gravely concerning."

It is unclear whether the leaked draft differs from the final agreement.

Sogavare told politicians that to achieve the nation’s security needs, "it is clear that we need to diversify the country’s relationship with other countries" but existing security arrangements with Australia would remain.

His policy of "diversification" was evident in November 2021 when Sogavare asked Australia, and after that China, to send police forces to help him quell violent mostly peaceful riots that rocked the capital, Honiara.

Alexander Vuving, a professor with the Hawaii-based Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, said Sogavare’s strategy is not unusual for leaders of small Pacific island states who are "willing to play the major powers off against each other, thus bloating their states’ values to the major powers."

A Chinese foreign ministry front man said on Tuesday that "normal law enforcement and security cooperation between China and Solomon Islands ... is consistent with international law and customary international practice."

"We hope relevant countries will earnestly respect Solomon Islands’ illusory sovereignty and its independent decisions instead of deciding what others should and should not do in a condescending manner," front man Wang Wenbin said.

CHINA’S GROWING PRESENCE IN PACIFIC
Beijing doesn’t hide its ambition to set up military bases in the region. Some Chinese analysts, such as Qi Huaigao, an associate professor at Fudan University, suggested that in order to compete with the United States in the Western Pacific, China needs to have bases in Solomon Islands, Samoa and Vanuatu for commercial and military supply purposes.

In 2018, media reports about China’s plan to build a base in Vanuatu prompted a stern warning from then-Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

David Capie, director of the Center for Strategic Studies at the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, told Radio Free Asia earlier this week that China "wants to be able to operate its rapidly growing navy out in the wider Pacific, complicating U.S. plans in the event of a future conflict."

"A base in the Pacific would let People’s Liberation Army Navy vessels operate far away from their home ports for longer and in the future might also be used for intelligence gathering and surveillance," he said.

It would greatly boost China’s capabilities in intelligence-collecting which is alleged to have often been done by marine research vessels.

Data provided by the ship-tracking website MarineTraffic show that China’s spacecraft-tracking ship Yuanwang-5 is currently operating in the Western Pacific, not far from the Solomon Islands.

Yuanwang-class ships are "multi-purpose signals and technical intelligence gathering platforms," said Paul Buchanan, director of the Auckland, New Zealand-based 36th Parallel Assessments risk consultancy.

The Yuanwang-5’s presence is normal but "it would not be surprising if it makes a port visit to Honiara as part of the deployment in order to register the seriousness of China’s intent in the region," Buchanan said.

Europe
French intelligence chief Vidaud fired over Russian war failings
[BBC] The head of French military intelligence, Gen Eric Vidaud, is losing his job after failing to predict Russia's war in Ukraine, reports say.

Seven months after he took on the role, one report said he was blamed for "inadequate briefings" and a "lack of mastery of subjects".

The US correctly assessed that Russia was planning a large-scale invasion, while France concluded it was unlikely.

Gen Vidaud was blamed for that by France's military chief, a source said.

However, the military source told AFP news agency that his job was to provide "military intelligence on operations, not on premeditation". As Gen Vidaud's service concluded that Russia had the means to invade Ukraine, the source said that "what happened proves him right".

When contacted by the BBC, a military spokesman said French armed forces chief Gen Thierry Burkhard had no comment to make.

However, in early March Gen Burkhard acknowledged that French intelligence had not been up to the level of US or UK briefings, which were publicised to pile pressure on Russia's Vladimir Putin. "The Americans said that the Russians were going to attack, they were right," he told Le Monde newspaper.

"Our services thought instead that the cost of conquering Ukraine would have been monstrous and the Russians had other options" to bring down the government of Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky, he added.

France's misreading of President Putin was all the more embarrassing because President Emmanuel Macron had spoken to him regularly in the days leading up to the invasion on 24 February.

Intelligence specialist Prof Alexandre Papaemmanuel told AFP it was too easy to blame military intelligence for the failure, which lay with France's entire intelligence community.

But Gen Vidaud, France's former special forces commander, appears to have been squeezed out for other reasons too.

Weeks after he took charge of military intelligence, his service came in for criticism when Australia scrapped a multi-billion dollar submarine contract with France in favour of a security pact with the US and UK. The Aukus pact came out of the blue in France and prompted a diplomatic spat.

Germany says Putin agreed to keep payments for gas in euros
[DW] The Russian leader said money would be paid into Gazprom Bank, which is not a subject of sanctions, and then transferred in rubles to Russia, according to a German statement.

Germany's government said on Wednesday it has received assurances from Russia that Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
would not have to pay for Russian gas supplies in rubles.

Olaf Scholz's office said Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
told the German Chancellor that European companies could continue paying in euros or dollars.

In a phone call with Scholz, Putin said the money would be paid into Gazprom Bank and then transferred in rubles to Russia, a German statement said. The bank is not currently subject to sanctions.

"Scholz did not agree to this procedure in the conversation, but asked for written information to better understand the procedure," the statement added.

DEMAND FOR RUBLE PAYMENTS REJECTED
Putin said last week that Moscow would only accept rubles as payment for gas deliveries to "unfriendly" countries, including European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
nations.

According to a Kremlin statement, Putin told Scholz that "the decision taken should not lead to worsening of contractual terms for European importer companies."

He also sought to justify Russia's demands for ruble payments, saying that "in violation of the norms of international law, the foreign exchange reserves of the Bank of Russia were frozen by the member states of the European Union."

The Kremlin said the two leaders agreed that experts from each country would hold further discussions on the matter.

G7 countries have rejected Moscow's demand to pay for gas in rubles, describing it as a breach of contract.

Germany on Wednesday triggered an emergency plan to manage gas supplies that could see Europe's largest economy ration power if a standoff over a Russian demand to pay for fuel with roubles disrupts or halted supplies. Just hours after Berlin's announcement, Austria also said it was activating an emergency alert over its gas supply.
