-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
German anti-CO2-Titanic just found its iceberg
Too good not to share, but according to ArthurK over at Ace O'Spades:

German power companies are demanding the same subsidies as the solar/wind companies are getting, or they start shutting off the juice. Bwahaha!!!

Don't ever leave the Germans an opening or they will slice you up like a cheap cut of pork.

From Watts Up With That:

That led to an event that can be likened to the proverbial iceberg unexpectedly popping up right in front of the German state ship while it was plowing through the waves on its climate-saving mission at full-steam. With just a 48-hour notice delivered by a personal phone call to Ms. Merkel on a Saturday, the CEO of E.ON, the largest German and European power producer, let it be known that the company had decided to split itself in two, one part grouping fossil and nuclear power generation and a second part encompassing the "politically correct" activities in the field of "renewable" energies. Sort of a "Bad E.ON" / "Good E.ON" move. The intention is to get rid of the "bad" part as soon as possible by putting it up for sale. At the same time, this also means the "good" part will cease to be duty bound to ensure a stable power supply under all circumstances. Obviously, such a liability is not enforceable from an entity whose only power sources are unstable wind and solar power plants.

In a nutshell, the message behind this move is that the silverback of the "big four" German energy producers who group the bulk of the country's conventional and nuclear power production is about to close shop at short notice. The others will probably follow suit.

#3  While arrogantly claiming the role of a vanguard policy-maker with respect to climate-saving measures, German politicians have entangled themselves in a maze of conflicting interests and harsh realities restraining their actions to near-immobility.
How socialist of them! But Champ can retire before his ship hits the iceberg.

#5  According to the Sci Am article on solar this month, power companies are starting to charge customers who have gone partially solar as much as $100 per month to support the expense of the grid and replace lost revenue. Maybe the govt will start taxing off-grid households for this soon.

#6  Let's see the best time to cut the power off would be when their is maximum cloud cover and freezing cold still air days. Sounds like Germany in the winter all right. Putin will probably make some gas and oil offers around the same time.

The Grand Turk
U.S.-Turkey rift on Syria likely to deepen
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A few days after U.S. Vice-President Joseph R. Biden's visit to Istanbul in late November, Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
issued one of his blatant criticisms of the B.O. regime since the beginning of the Syrian war. The president of Turkey said he was "against impertinence, recklessness and endless demands" coming from "12,000 kilometers away."

Feeding Erdogan's fury could still be Biden's revelation a month earlier. The U.S. vice president had told an audience at Harvard University about a conversation he had with the president of Turkey, during which Erdogan allegedly told him Turkey misplayed its hand on Syria by letting "too many people (including imported muscle) through." Biden was compelled to apologize.

India-Pakistan
Violence and Pakistani formula
[DAWN] "THE PTI has failed to capitalise on the body," remarked a supporter a day after the loss of a young life in violence in Faisalabad
...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. It is named after some Arab because the Paks didn't have anybody notable of their own to name it after...
. It was a cruel remark, but one that focused on an eventuality everyone had been talking about. It was like asking that now that the incident predicted had taken place, would things follow the formula from that point on?

The word violence is what the political debate over the previous few weeks had centred around. The government projected the PTI as a party courting violence. In return, the government was pulled up for its obdurate positioning, the theory being that if it could yield to anything, it could yield to violence. After all these weeks of debate on the subject, it was eerily logical that someone was now asking if the PTI had been able to use the sacrifice of its worker in Faisalabad to its advantage.

Analysis: A Taliban In Every Mind
[Dawn] ?The Taliban are wrongly blamed for the kabooms in Pakistain, it is actually India that is responsible,? says Pir Saifullah Khalid, the imam of a large madressah in Lahore.

Much like the imam, the Punjab government and many politicians have been in denial about the existing structure of holy warrior groups in the country.

From Punjab?s longest serving law minister Rana Sanaullah to Bashir Bilour, the dear departed former home minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
