Kimberley Strassel: Why the Justice Department Is Defiant
[WSJ] A House subpoena, another missed deadline. What is the department hiding? - The feud that has simmered for months between Congress and the Justice Department erupted this week into a cage match. That’s because the House is homing in on the goods.

Until this week, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and fellow institutionalists at the department had fought Congress’s demands for information with the tools of banal bureaucracy‐resist, delay, ignore, negotiate. But Mr. Rosenstein took things to a new level on Tuesday, accusing House Republicans of "threats," extortion and wanting to "rummage" through department documents. A Wednesday New York Times story then dropped a new slur, claiming "Mr. Rosenstein and top FBI officials have come to suspect that some lawmakers were using their oversight authority to gain intelligence about [Special Counsel Bob Mueller’s ] investigation so that it could be shared with the White House."

Mr. Rosenstein isn’t worried about rummaging. That’s a diversion from the department’s opposite concern: that it is being asked to comply with very specific‐potentially very revealing‐demands. Two House sources confirm for me that the Justice Department was recently delivered first a classified House Intelligence Committee letter and then a subpoena (which arrived Monday) demanding documents related to a new line of inquiry about the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Trump investigation. The deadline for complying with the subpoena was Thursday afternoon, and the Justice Department flouted it. As the White House is undoubtedly monitoring any new congressional demands for information, it is likely that President Trump’s tweet Wednesday ripping the department for not turning over documents was in part a reference to this latest demand.

#1  We can’t know the precise motivations behind the Justice Department’s and FBI’s refusal to make key information public.

Yes we can, simply subpoena their arses.

#4  ...just a technical note. Posse Commitatus applies to the Army, not the Navy. The authors never imagined a Marine Corps the size of what it is today. Just saying, in sort of a historical perspective way, of dealing with coup plotters.

#5  Strassel's piece is a good example of la la land. Saying Paul Ryan must do this or that knowing full well he won't when she knows full well he will not. Pretty much a joke. I've caught worms with more backbone than pooping Paul.

Kim completely omits that obvious criminal sedation present in the DOJ and the FBI 7th floor. That includes FBI Wray. So way go so soft?

She's ether a complete idiot or thinks we are.

Until someone sends literal pre dawn raids by the US Marshals nothing will happen. And she knows it.

Groups Urge Trump To Fully Repeal The Renewable 'Corn Gas' Fuel Standard Today
[Hot Air] In the midst of all the political chaos in Washington, normal business has to keep grinding on. One item on the President’s schedule today is a meeting to discuss ethanol mandates and the Renewable Fuel Standard. Thus far the White House has proven reluctant to act on the need to curb government mandated ethanol blending requirements for gasoline, despite the damage the program does to consumers and the broader U.S. energy industry. (Not to mention to equipment such as small engines and marine motors which are damaged by higher ethanol blend fuels.)

In anticipation of this meeting, several groups are pushing new awareness campaigns in an effort to get this critical message across. The American Energy Alliance features one of these stories this week. They’re not just looking to reduce the mandates, but eliminate the RFS entirely.

#5  Oh you have a 'choice' (actually a penalty). You want the old style gas, you pay an additional $.45 - $.85 per gallon.

I'm too lazy to look it up now, but I'm pretty sure ethanol, etc. are subsidized, so real gas would actually cost less than the 'corn gas' the liberals in Cambridge & Brookline love to put in their Priuses.

#6  I remember trying to find pure gasoline a while back and learned that in most cities it is illegal for gas stations to sell it, and even if you go outside city limits, even into a different county, in the countryside the shit is virtually impossible to find at any price.

Daniels' lawyer: Cohen got $500K from Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg
[NBC] Stormy Daniels' attorney claimed Tuesday that President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen received $500,000 from a company controlled by a Russian oligarch, deposited into an account for a company also used to pay off the adult film actress.

Daniels' attorney, Michael Avenatti, also detailed other transactions he said were suspicious, including deposits from drug giant Novartis, the state-run Korea Aerospace Industries, and AT&T ‐ which confirmed it paid Cohen's company for "insights" into the Trump administration.
It's all there! Korean Aerospace alien invasion, opioids, Russian oligarchs, whores, money. What else is there ?
If true, Avenatti's claims, made in a dossier posted to Twitter, could add a new dimension to the federal investigation into Cohen. NBC News has reviewed financial documents that appear to support Avenatti’s account of the transactions.

"This thing is a pig and they can try to put lipstick on a pig ‐ tonight, next week, next month ‐ but it's still gonna be a pig," Avenatti said on MSNBC's "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell." "This thing's ugly and it's gonna get worse."

#4  Fake news. The American own company had done work for the Oligarch in the past. And happened to have hired Cohen for some entirely unrelated work.

As to where he got this information - from that raid of Cohen's office I suspect. Leaked by Mueller's team.

Did America dodge a bullet over Hillary Clinton's failing health?
[American Thinker] Hillary Clinton was spotted in public in New York, wearing what appeared to be a back brace, sticking out from her clothing despite her being covered up by a heavy coat and scarf in 80-degree weather.

The Daily Mail has an excellent set of paparazzi photos here.

So much for her phyician's "excellent" bill of health, something that should raise questions about the value of such reports, or else her medic's credibility. And it says a lot about Hillary Clinton herself that she continually lies about her increasingly obvious chronic health problems.

We've known for years that she's had health problems. She had a fall and a concussion in 2012, with blurry double-vision, requiring her to wear glasses, which seemed to be a factor in her resignation as secretary of state.

Out on the campaign trail, there were suspiciously long bathroom breaks, which made her late for her television appearances at at least one presidential candidates' debate, quite a noticeable attention-getter. Always, always, there were excuses ‐ that the bathroom was too far away, that the whole bathroom needed to be cleared out for Hillary, so that Hillary could "go," that women always take longer than men to do their business in the bathroom. If any of that were true, it would have been worked out before the debate. It wasn't, and Hillary tried to laugh it off.

The Trump Land Mine
The indispensable VDH via Insty. Worth it
Professor Hanson always is.
[NationalReview] Explosives require careful handling. Sometimes they blow up in your face.

After the 2016 election, the so-called deep state was confident that it had the power easily to either stop, remove, or delegitimize the outlier Donald Trump and his presidency.

Give it credit, the Washington apparat quite imaginatively pulled out all the stops: implanting Obama holdover appointees all over the Trump executive branch; filing lawsuits and judge shopping; organizing the Resistance; pursuing impeachment writs; warping the FISA courts; weaponizing the DOJ and FBI; attempting to disrupt the Electoral College; angling for enactment of the 25th Amendment or the emoluments clause; and unleashing Hollywood celebrities, Silicon Valley, and many in Wall Street to suffocate the Trump presidency in its infancy.

But now the administrative state’s multifaceted efforts are starting to unwind, and perhaps even boomerang, on the perpetrators. If a federal judge should end up throwing out most of the indictments of Paul Manafort on the rationale that they have nothing much to do with the original mandate of the special counsel’s office, or if Michael Flynn’s confession to giving false statements is withdrawn successfully because the FBI politicized its investigation and FISA courts were misled in approving the surveillance of Flynn, then the Mueller investigation will implode.

Indeed, the Mueller investigation would likely lose so much public support that the Department of Justice could probably dismiss it with impunity. So, in an ironic sense, Mueller’s overreach might well end once and for all the absurdities of the special counsel/prosecutor law that for nearly half a century has plagued the nation.

Analysts: Rouhani 'Losing Everything' Due to Trump
Published before President Trump’s cancellation of President Obama’s unratified “deal” with Iran.
[AnNahar] Iran's President Hassan Rouhani staked his legacy on efforts to end decades of tension with the West. With the landmark nuclear deal unraveling, what hope is there for his political future?

Regardless of whether U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
tears up the 2015 nuclear deal that was the centerpiece of Rouhani's diplomatic efforts, it is clear that the traditional animosity between the U.S. and Iran has returned for the foreseeable future.
