Massachusetts town's hearing on proposed tobacco ban ends abruptly
[Washington Post] Westminster, Mass. -- a town about 52 miles from Boston -- might make history.

Or ... it might not, if a public hearing was any indication.

The community of less than 8,000 residents is considering prohibiting the sale of tobacco products, which would apparently be the first such ban in the nation. Westminster residents gathered on Wednesday night to discuss the proposal, which would ban the sale of items such as cigarettes, chewing tobacco and electronic cigarettes.

The crowd grew so unruly that Andrea Crete, the town's Board of Health chairwoman, abruptly ended the event, according to the Boston Herald. Just four people spoke, and opponents of the measure sang as the hearing shut down. Crete left with a police escort, newspapers reported.

"Nobody's respecting the ground rules," Crete said, according to the Herald. "We have to close it. The clapping. Everybody talking. Nobody is showing any respect to the board or to other people when they're talking. We cannot have that. It's going to spin out of control."

GOP congressman rules out impeaching Obama because -- 'Have you met Joe Biden?'
[DAILYMAIL.CO.UK]
  • Trey Gowdy said his party can't impeach the president over his threatened immigration overhaul -- but only because Biden would become president
  • The folksy Biden wants the top job for himself but Republicans see him as a potentially embarrassing one-man gaffe factory
  • One senior House GOP aide said Biden is 'two floppy shoes short of a complete clown outfit' and Obama's 'insurance policy'
  • Gowdy hinted that impeachment is being dangled by the White House as bait in the hope that the GOP will destroy its own credibility by trying it
  • A Texas Republican congressman and a judge-turned-news-analyst floated the idea this week

#1  At this point I'd take Biden. Gowdy is correct however. Impeachment is a dangling trap intended to create 'Ferguson' distractions across the land.

#4  ...Hell, we've known that since '08.

Another problem - and this is IMHO - is that Biden will fold worse than a kids' origami class when faced with a resolute opponent. There is a story from the late milblogger Neptunus Lex about how he had to deal with Biden one very bad evening many years ago - short version is that Lex, in the course of his duties as a naval officer, had to tell Biden to sit down and shut up...and so Biden did. Politicos on both sides of the aisle know Biden has no guts...and the last thing we would need after an impeachment is somebody like that, because the vultures would be circling.

#5  "Gowdy hinted that impeachment is being dangled by the White House as bait in the hope that the GOP will destroy its own credibility by trying it."

Let the Donks think this is a possibility--just don't trumpet this to all 57 states. Leave the possibility just dangling out there--keep em guessing. Impeachment, although tempting, is not going anywhere--not enough votes in the senate to convict so why waste time. There are better things to do.

#6  The best idea I've heard is that the GOP should try and remove all of the affiliated cabinet secretaries that have aided and abetted Obola's crimes.

Keep the regime busy with summons, discovery and trials for the next 2 years while pushing the legislative agenda up to Zero for his vetos.
Posted by: AlanC || 11/15/2014 11:48 Comments || Top||

#7  Isolate O like they did with Pablo Escobar. Tie up his czars and cabinet members. Make O toxic to associate with. There is plenty of material out there that is truth.

O will play the race and victim card with an impeachment and trial, which will go nowhere. Isolate and neutralize him, like Rabaul and Truk and let him wither on the vine.

#10  Now O gets isolated and neutralized. Now something else positive needs to be done. Make a budget. Make it 5% less than last year. Submit it to the Senate. Pass it. Send to Obama. Let him veto. Have a meeting. Make changes but keep it at 5% less. Submit it to O. The bottom line: keep the total 5% less than last years spending. If you can override O's veto, great. Would be nice. Then next year is 5% less than this year. Keep doing this.

John McCain Worries He's Tea Party's 'Number One Target' In 2016
[BREITBART] Sen. John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution...
(R-AZ) implied that he would run for another Senate term in 2016 and is worried that he is the top target of conservatives and Tea partiers who have never trusted him.
If you're gonna be a loose cannon y'can't expect everybody to follow you...
"You have to hope for the best and prepare for the worst," McCain told MSNBC on Wednesday when asked if he would run for reelection in 2016. "I definitely think that I would have to absolutely anticipate a tea party candidate or two or three... everybody tells me that I'm the number one target of the tea partiers."
One of the things that Tea Partiers don't like is politicians who intend to die of old age in office.
McCain told the left-wing outlet that he was "absolutely" leaning toward running again and said he talked with "finance people in the state," in addition to "different groups and organizations ranging from the Arizona Chamber to the Southern Arizona Defense Alliance to build the coalitions we need to build" for reelection.

In 2010, McCain survived a primary with less-than-formidable challengers (J.D. Hayworth) in large part because former Alaska Governor Sarah Mama Grizzly Palin
... the babe libs love to hate ...
loyally endorsed him. McCain also cut a campaign commercial promising to build the "danged fence" along the border.
It hasn't appeared yet. Maybe that's another reason the Tea Partiers aren't fond of him.

#6  John Sidney McCain III, Born Aug 29, 1936, age 78, Panama Canal Zone, Panama is the senior United States Senator from Arizona. He was the Republican presidential nominee in the 2008 United States presidential election. McCain followed his father and grandfather, both four-star admirals, into the United States Navy, graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1958. He became a naval aviator, flying ground-attack aircraft from aircraft carriers. During the Vietnam War, he was almost killed in the 1967 USS Forrestal fire. In October 1967, while on a bombing mission over Hanoi, he was shot down, seriously injured, and captured by the North Vietnamese. He was a prisoner of war until 1973. McCain experienced episodes of torture, and refused an out-of-sequence early repatriation offer. His war wounds left him with lifelong physical limitations.

John is on the precipice; he is about to become an octogenarian. He has outlived his grandfather by 17 years, and his father by 8 years. If elected to another six year term in 2016, by 2022, he will be 86. Surely, the power lure is strong, but time is running out.

We are bankrupt. Fiscal policy is inflating our currency and the U.S. dollar is being abandoned as the world currency by nations who are making bilateral currency swaps.

Nancy Pelosi Walks into the #Grubergate Buzzsaw
[BLOOMBERG] The first question at House Minority Leader Nancy San Fran Nan Pelosi
Congresswoman-for-Life from the San Francisco Bay Area, born into a family of professional politicians. Formerly Speaker of the House, but it's not her fault they lost. Really. Noted for her heavily botoxed grimace...
's post-election news conference went to Fox News's Chad Pergram, who asked what the un-archived comments of "Obamacare
... aka the Affordable Care Act, an ineptly designed and worse executed piece of legislation designed to bring 17 percent of the U.S. economy under the direct control of the government. The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read...
architect Jonathan Gruber" meant for the coming Obamacare wars.

"Mr. Gruber's comments were a year old, and he has backtracked from most of them," she said. "You didn't have it in your narrative. That's really important. He is not even advocating the position that he was at some conference and some said. So I don't know who he is. He didn't help write our bill. With all due respect to your question, you have a person who wasn't writing our bill, commenting on what was happening when we were writing our bill, who has withdrawn some of the statements."

Pelosi might as well have waved a red flag in front of a target as a starting gun went off. Gruber "wasn't writing" the health care bill? No one said he was, only that he helped walk Democrats through the crafting of the various bills that became the Affordable Care Act. It only made sense; Gruber, an MIT professor, had played a similar role in Massachusetts four years earlier. As speaker of the House, Pelosi herself had promoted Gruber's analyses of the ACA, much as Democrats promoted the work of economist Mark Zandi to prove that their policies had conservative credibility.

So the right sprang into action--at Mediaite, on Twitter, and on Twitchy, which aggregated both Pelosi's comments and the spin of news hounds who said there was a difference between Gruber being cited by Democrats and Gruber "writing the bill." In very little time, conservatives re-discovered video of Pelosi telling news hounds to get right with Gruber's analysis of the ACA.

It was possible, technically, for Democrats to credit Gruber with some of the best ideas inside and outside of Congress during the 2009-2010 debate without saying that Gruber "wrote" the law. But Democrats are explaining, and losing.

#5  Just another case of "progressive" communication snafu - Pelosi can handle it - The Lioness of the Progressive Democrats in Congress.

Pelosi has represented the city of San Francisco, perhaps the most liberal in the nation, since 1987, and is a very close friend of Rep. Barbara Lee, who represents neighboring Oakland and Berkeley, California, and is the most vocal apologist for Communist Cuba in Congress today. Lee, head of the Congressional Black Caucus, recently led a delegation to Cuba to meet with the Castro brothers to discuss normalization of relations. But she paid no attention to political dissidents or political prisoners being held on the communist island.

Lee, who calls Pelosi “a magnificent woman” and “one of California’s greatest representatives,” began her career in the California state legislature as a secret member of the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, a spin-off from the Communist Party. As a member of the staff of Rep. Ron Dellums, Lee was shown to have been collaborating with communist officials on the island of Grenada, according to documents captured after the liberation of that island nation. These revelations have not hurt Lee’s standing with Pelosi and other “progressives.” Indeed, Lee also served as the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

But even more interesting than the Barbara Lee connection is Pelosi’s long-time friendship and association with Vincent and Vivian Hallinan, one of the most radical left-wing families in San Francisco over the course of five decades.

Pelosi hailed them as “one of San Francisco’s great Irish families” in a March 17, 1999, statement, after the passing of Vivian Hallinan. “Vivian was a pioneer, a mentor and a leader,” Pelosi said. “Our community was blessed by her presence and will long remember her many significant contributions to improving society. I will miss my friend, Vivian.”

Notice use of the term “mentor.”

Pelosi called Vivian Hallinan, who openly held “socialist” views, a “pioneer” in “a wide range of progressive causes.”

But these causes included support for communists in Central America during the 1980s, when Soviet- and Cuban-backed forces were subverting Central America through violence and terrorism and fighting for control of the region.

Indeed, Pelosi paid tribute to Vivian Hallinan by inserting into the Congressional Record an article saying that she had “opposed U.S. policy in Central America” under President Reagan, had “befriended Daniel Ortega, Nicaragua’s [Communist] Sandinista leader,” and had met with Cuban dictator Castro.

“She was a role model for many of us,” Pelosi said. “If Vincent was the lion, Vivian was the lioness.”

House approves Keystone XL pipeline as Senate vote awaits
[Washington Examiner] The House passed legislation Friday that would green-light the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline, as attention now shifts to an upcoming Senate vote next week.

The bill from Rep. Bill Cassidy, R-La., passed 252-161, with all Republicans supporting -- except one who voted present -- and 31 Democrats joining them. Sens. Mary Landrieu, D-La., and John Hoeven, R-N.D., have floated the same bill in the upper chamber, which is scheduled for a Tuesday vote.

President B.O., however, hinted Friday that he would veto the bill if it reached his desk. He reiterated that he would not let legislation circumvent the review process at the State Department, which has had the application for a cross-border permit needed to build the pipeline's northern leg forever for more than six years.
Perhaps the House could call in the single drone worker at Foggy Bottom who has been spending two hours a month reviewing the pipeline...
"My position hasn't changed, that this is a process that is supposed to be followed," Obama said during a presser in Burma, dashing some speculation that he could OK the legislation as an olive branch to the incoming Republican-led Senate.

#1  So now the Champ is an expert on legislative 'process.' How delightful....typically chameleon of him yes, but delightful nonetheless.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Congressional Black Caucus Chair: Dems Lost Midterms Because of Racist White Southerners
The Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus said Democrats got walloped in the midterm elections because white Southern voters are racists.

"We lost because of ideological differences within the Democratic Party and with our Administration. We lost because our party has, to some extent, lost white Southerners due in part to the race of our President," Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH) said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Tell me that's an alias, please!
Fudge's remarks echo those of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA), the Democrat who is in a runoff with Republican Bill Cassidy in Louisiana. Landrieu blamed racism for Obama's low approval ratings when asked why President Obama has "a hard time in Louisiana."
But she wants all those nasty racists to vote for her.
“Let me be very, very honest with you," Landrieu responded in an interview before the midterms. "The South has not always been the friendliest place for African-Americans. It's been a difficult time for the president to present himself in a very positive light as a leader."

To Fudge, black voters were not the reason for the losses. She urged critics to "find another scapegoat" and "Don't blame us!"
I don't blame you, Madam Fudge. Neither would I vote for you or for any Democrat under any circumstances with the possible exception of a gun to my head.
"Our community organizations and churches mobilized to encourage early voting opportunities with programs like 'Souls to the Polls,' and African American activists and state leaders stood ready to combat any instance of voter intimidation or fraud," she said. "Black elected officials crisscrossed the country to discuss the urgency and importance of this election. We phone banked, knocked on doors and held 'Get Out the Vote' rallies. Our losses were not a referendum on African American political engagement. We did our part, so don't blame us!"
If 12 percent of the population calls the other 88 percent bad names, why would the 12 percent expect the 88 percent to vote for their candidate, regardless of color or even species?

#6  Racers of the South - NASCAR - could have been called MOONSCAR - Moon Shiners Carrying Alcohol Racing - but it didn't have the Snap, NASCAR Does.

Regarding CBC well, I agree with Allen West.

The Democratic Party is full of communists, says U.S. Rep. Allen West of Florida, a Tea Party favorite and sole Republican member of the Congressional Black Caucus. Unless you talk to the American Communist Party itself.

At a Tuesday town hall meeting in Palm City, Fla., West said that he believes there are "about 78 to 81 members of the Democratic Party that are members of the Communist Party."

The comments came after a member of the audience asked him what percentage of the American legislature are "card-carrying Marxists." After a drawn-out pause, West clarified his claim, saying, "It's actually called the Congressional Progressive Caucus."

It's not just you, and Fred has been notified. In the meantime, those who know a skitch of HTML are doing it manually, with angle brackets < > and opening and closing statements (if that's what they're called).

Thus:
bold: strong, /strong
italics: em, /em
link: a href="URL">text the reader sees /a
that last with angle brackets around the /a as well, if that makes any sense.
