Lerner's FEC Problem
[NATIONALREVIEW] The "phony scandal" at the IRS keeps growing.

E-mail correspondence unearthed by the House Boodle Central reveals that Lois Lerner, the figure at the center of the scandal, may have committed a felony by divulging information about a conservative group to the Federal Election Commission, in an incident that dates back at least to 2008, before President B.O. took office. Though some conservatives have eagerly sought evidence that Obama's White House instigated the IRS's targeting of tea-party groups, the latest evidence suggests that an anti-conservative bias may instead be an endemic feature of the federal bureaucracy. And now, an FEC official is raising the specter of systemic bias at that agency, too, calling the techniques its lawyers employ a "much more sophisticated way" of discriminating against conservative groups than those used by the IRS.

"When we spoke last July, you had told us that the American Future Fund had not received an exemption letter from the IRS," an FEC attorney wrote in a February 2009 e-mail to Lerner.

But Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code provides that both "return information" and "taxpayer return information" are strictly confidential. An IRS source tells National Review Online that, within the agency, disclosing the information that Lerner appears to have provided is considered "a violation of Section 6103."

That's a felony punishable by up to $5,000 in fines or five years in prison. If found guilty of such a violation, Lerner, who has been on paid administrative leave since May, would also lose her job: "If such offense is committed by any officer or employee of the United States," the law reads, he shall "be dismissed from office or discharged from employment upon conviction for such offense."

#2  I'm beginning to wonder why Issa even bothers. The administration will stonewall, take the Fifth, misdirect, shout "Look, squirrel" until after the 2014 election. Meanwhile, they will keep on doing what they've been doing.

#3  Lerner appears to be the key. If Issa can force a legal indictment, plea negotiations can begin and much more can be learned. This entire affair needs to depart the congressional investigation arena and enter the legal world as soon as possible.

#5  Besoeker, the problem is that once Lerner is indicted, it will be turned over to Holder where it will quietly die.

NAACP: DoJ, Secret Service Should Investigate Rodeo Clown
[BREITBART] On Tuesday, the Missouri State National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) issued a statement asking for federal involvement in the case of a rodeo clown who wore an Obama mask and then asked the crowd if they'd like to see Obama run down by a bull.
Ummm... For a clown?
"The activities at the Missouri State Fair targeting and inciting violence against our President are serious and warrant a full review by both the Secret Service and the Justice Department," said State President Mary Ratliff.
Inciting violence against B.O.? Groups of Missourians showing up with cattle and trampling him? Not much of a threat.
"Incidents involving individuals acting out with extreme violent behavior in movie theaters, schools, churches, political appearances, and outdoor events in general speaks volume to the irresponsible behavior of all the parties involved with the incendiary events at the Missouri State Fair."
There were clowns involved in those? Well, damn them!
Ratliff went on to condemn the state's funding of the State Fair:
What part of "State Fair" doesn't she understand?
"Our Legislature has failed to support Medicare Expansion in Missouri, has consistently attempted to dismantle our Human Rights Commission, fail to adequately fund urban schools -- (who) are predominately African American -- yet they are subsidizing the Missouri State Fair to the tune of $400,000; we are calling for the subsidy to stop...
Can they have a few bucks if there's anything left over after your buddies have been taken care of?
How dare those peasants spend a little of their own money to amuse themselves!
[Governor Nixon's] planned Pancake Breakfast for Thursday should be his 'Last Supper' at the Missouri State Fair in response to the racially intolerant attacks on his Commander in Chief."
'Twasn't racially intolerant. The clown was making fun of him.
Besides, the president is only commander-in-chief of the military. The rest of us he must ask politely.
What this demonstrates very clearly is that Champ has rabbit ears. He can't tolerate for a moment being taunted. Recall the vitriol that Dubya faced (including a snuff film); never seemed to bother him any.

#4  What would happen if someone published an editorial cartoon showing Obama as a cowboy who's being run down by a bull who bears the written designation 'Administration Scandals' ?

The clown's reference to violence was unrealistic. He performed an editorial cartoon. One may disagree with his point but how could this be criminal?

'Death of a President' OTOH presented a realistic scenario of the assassination of George W. Bush. Were there legal consequences for anyone involved in the making?

#7  These folks after the clown's hide are nuts. I haven't watched the video, but even if he's the mutant spawn of Bull Connor and banjo boy, the clown knew for sure and certain that the Boss was not present, and therefore in no danger whatsoever. But zeee booool... for all we know, that bull thought he was after the real thing. All patriotic citizens must immediately demand an investigation of that bull, with particular regard to its political affiliations, social media postings, and eligibility to carry pointy things around on its head.

#24  Just watched that whole video. Good.

Somehow I can't imagine Obumbles making fun of himself. That would take a bit of humility which Obama simply doesn't have. Two of the things I liked about Bush was his humility, and his compassion (something else Bumbles doesn't have...)

Obama truly believes he's 'the One' we have been waiting for - he said so himself.

Lawsuits filed after Gov. Pat McCrory signs voter ID bill
[NEWSOBSERVER] Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday signed into law a bill requiring voters to produce a photo ID when they go to the polls, and it was immediately met with legal challenges in federal court questioning its constitutionality.

The new law brings sweeping changes to the state's election process by reducing the early-voting period by a week, abolishing same-day voter registration and ending straight-party voting.

"North Carolinians overwhelmingly support a common-sense law that requires voters to present photo identification in order to cast a ballot," McCrory said in a statement. "I am proud to sign this legislation into law. Common practices like boarding an airplane and purchasing Sudafed require photo ID, and we should expect nothing less for the protection of our right to vote."

North Carolina becomes one of 34 states with some form of voter ID law. The voter ID provision goes into effect for the 2016 election.

Now the fight moves from the political arena to the courts.

Just hours after McCrory signed the bill, two separate lawsuits challenging the law were filed in federal court in Greensboro. A third lawsuit is expected to be filed in state court Tuesday. Congressman G.K. Butterfield also asked U.S. Attorney General Eric Inaction Jackson Holder
... aka Mister Fast and Furious...
to "take swift and decisive action by using any legal mechanisms" to protect North Carolina's voting rights.
As I said yesterday, best part is that most of the new rules have been implemented, one way or another, by a majority of other states. Restrictions on early voting? Photo ID? Provisional ballots? All been done. If Holder is serious a lot of states are going to be filing amicus curiae briefs to defend their own laws.
