Md. county official: I was wrong to ask my name not be used
[BIGSTORY.AP.ORG] A local elected official in Maryland who achieved instant Internet notoriety after he threatened to sue a newspaper for publishing his name now says he won't sue after all.
Brilliant move.
Frederick County Councilman Kirby Delauter said in a written statement Wednesday he was wrong when he told a Frederick News-Post reporter in a Facebook post: "Use my name again unauthorized and you'll be paying for an attorney."
Try it and you'll be paying damages, court costs, parking fees, and your rain tax (yes, we have one in Maryland) will double.
Delauter says the threat reflected his frustration about feeling misrepresented or misinterpreted by local news coverage. But he says the First Amendment is alive and well in Frederick County.
He just didn't want it to be.
Delauter's threat generated a sarcastic editorial response from the newspaper and an avalanche of mocking messages on social media Tuesday.
Plus today's tip o' the Rantburg hat.

How do you think Sara feels about her continued national coverage by the Leftest Media (aka MSM)?

#4  I think he has increased his visibility sufficiently to run for state-wide office. He needs to work on his incoherence and feigned outrage to make it to the show. A blue-chip prospect would have just turned up the volume of his rant rather than appogize. He still has a chance to work on his game. That's what the minors are for. He should hit the film room and study Boxer's body of work. That's an impressive career drawing to a close.

Schumer wants airline, airport workers screened for guns
[BIGSTORY.AP.ORG] Sen. Chuck Schumer
Senator-for-life from New York, renowned for his love of standing in front of cameras. Schumer has been a professional politician since 1975, when disco was in flower.
on Wednesday called for daily federal screening of airport and airline workers for weapons following last month's arrests of five men accused of smuggling guns through the New York and Atlanta airports.

The New York Democrat, joined in Washington by Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson, said he's asking the Transportation Security Administration to immediately require all U.S. airports to screen staff when they start work.

"In this day and age of terrorism, rampant drug dealing and gun smuggling, we just can't be too careful," Schumer said.

Currently, pilots and flight crews, as well as passengers, pass through the TSA metal detectors. But Schumer said many employees who work in the secure sections of airports are exempt.

The Department of Homeland Security, which includes the TSA, said later Wednesday that Secretary Jeh Johnson shares those concerns and will go to the Atlanta airport Thursday to meet with TSA and airport stakeholders. The trip is intended "to help assess potential vulnerabilities related to site security at airports nationwide behind the sterile area," spokeswoman Marsha Catron said.

#2  But Schumer said many employees who work in the secure sections of airports are exempt.

And in Atlanta, which is the focus of the discussion [due to recent gun smuggling], many of these "exempt" persons are cut from a very specific bolt of cloth. We must be very careful about employment screening, background checks, and hiring restrictions, else we'll have no employees at all. The impacts on Affirmative Action could be devastating.

#5  >But Schumer said many employees who work in the secure sections of airports are exempt.

Then there's ZERO security. It really is just theatre. Every airside Airport staff member in the U.K. gets checked more thoroughly than passengers do.

The TSA is a waste of space.

Europe
Obama: 'These Kind of Attacks Can Happen Anywhere in the World'
[CNSNEWS] In a stupid statement made in the Oval Office this afternoon, President Barack Obama
If you like your coverage you can keep it...
said the type of attack that turbans carried out today at a satirical publication's Gay Paree office can happen anywhere in the world.
But they specifically happened in Paris, in the offices of Charlie Hebdo.
In listing potential locales for such attacks, however, the president mentioned the threat to "Americans living in Europe and in the Middle East and other parts of the world" but did not specifically mention the United States.
Even more specifically, they were carried out by the usual murderous Moslems. Nobody even paused to wonder if they were rampaging Buddhists or vicious Rosicrucians.
"I think it's going to be important for us to make sure that we recognize these kinds of attacks can happen anywhere in the world," Obama said. "And one of the things I'll be discussing with Secretary [of State John] Kerry today is to make sure that we remain vigilant not just with respect to Americans living in Gay Paree, but Americans living in Europe and in the Middle East and other parts of the world, and making sure that we stay vigilant in trying to protect them, and to hunt down and bring the perpetrators of this specific act to justice, and to roll up the networks that help to advance these kinds of plots."
Then he paused to wipe his chin.

#2  ......can happen anywhere in the world.

But they don't do they. They take place in specific places, for specific reasons, and are conducted by a particular kind of people, referred by most as yes, Islamic terrorists. Of course the Champ our resident Mohammadan apologist cannot bring himself to utter the words 'Islamic terrorist.'

#6  "These Kind of Attacks Can Happen Anywhere in the World" that Muslims are permitted to be present.

Simple solution - eliminate all Muslims.

"But - there are 1.6 billion Muslims - you can't get rid of them all."

Sure you can - you just have to get started. Admittedly, it will take a long time. But - the time will pass anyway. 'Might as well have a Muslim-free world at the end.

There ois a nother solution: Have most Muslims abdnon Islam in horror and spit at Mosques. B ut for that, first thing would be _us_ stopping saying Islam is a religion of peace. We hmust say Islam is evil.

#12  There is the threat factor. One can say don't give up protection money to the Mafia and have everyone agree in theory while continuing to pay because they know the Mafia will mess them up if they stop.

The bad guys need to be in fear so the folks feel safe. Then options are open. Bad guys living in the West, despite constantly bracing for a backlash against Muslims, have absolutely no fear.

#13  When he said these attacks can happen anywhere in the world, he didn't mean it as a statement of caution. He meant it to be a warning to infidels everywhere. He might as well have been waiving a dull machete above his head while saying it.

#14  Rat bastard Obama encourages this shit. He'd rather punish people for exercising their rights to free speech and press than face the fact that the terrorists are muzzies. Hey, we don't want to offend our killers, our colonizers, our new oppressors. And you can just forget about that Constitution.

Just like when he acts like people who resist arrest should be allowed to walk away from their crimes if the police are unable to subdue them without inflicting the slightest injury. After all, if they wanna knock over a convenience store or sell cigarettes or heroin or meth to kids it's just because they were deprived. Nevermind if the cops get hurt or killed because we all know the cops are racists.

Ain't that right, Barry?

#1  Prelutsky is probably headed 'straight to hell'....but a priceless assessment from the Los Angeles Times:

"Frankly, I don't know what it is about California, but we seem to have a strange urge to elect really obnoxious women to high office. I'm not bragging, you understand, but no other state, including Maine, even comes close. When it comes to sending left-wing dingbats to Washington, we're Number One. There's no getting around the fact that the last time anyone saw the likes of Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, Maxine Waters, and Nancy Pelosi, they were stirring a cauldron when the curtain went up on 'Macbeth.' The four of them are like jackasses who happen to possess the gift of blab. You don't know if you should condemn them for their stupidity or simply marvel at their ability to form words."
