Hildebeest relents, gives private email server to Justice Department
"You gave them WHAT??!!??"
WASHINGTON -- Hillary Rodham Clinton relented Tuesday to months of demands she relinquish the personal email server she used while secretary of state, directing the device be given to the Justice Department.
Hildebeest death stare ?
The decision advances the investigation into the Democratic presidential front-runner's use of a private email account as the nation's top diplomat, and whether classified information was improperly sent via and stored on the home-brew email server she ran from her house in suburban New York City.

Clinton campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said she has "pledged to co-operate with the government's security inquiry, and if there are more questions, we will continue to address them."

It's not clear if the device will yield any information -- Clinton's attorney said in March that no emails from the main personal address she used while secretary of state still "reside on the server or on back-up systems associated with the server."

Clinton had to this point refused demands from Republican critics to turn over the server to a third party, with attorney David Kendall telling the House committee investigating the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that "there is no basis to support the proposed third-party review of the server."

Republicans jumped on Tuesday's decision to change course, as well as the additional disclosure that two emails that traversed Clinton's personal system were subsequently given one of the government's highest classification ratings.

"All this means is that Hillary Clinton, in the face of FBI scrutiny, has decided she has run out of options," Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus in a statement. "She knows she did something wrong and has run out of ways to cover it up."
Could simply be a coincidence, but her actions appear to coincide with the IG's discovery of TS documents in her UNCLAS email. Could be she's simply avoiding a subpoena. The pumps are not keeping up. The ship could be going down.

However, the information has been turned over to the DOJ and nothing much will happen.

#10  The Washington Post at 8:55 a.m. has this tidbit, courtesy of Drudge Report:

A State Department spokesman late Tuesday described the top-secret designation as a recommendation and said they had not been marked classified at the time, but said staffers “circulated these e-mails on unclassified systems in 2009 and 2011 and ultimately some were forwarded to Secretary Clinton.”

#22  Is it still the same server with the hard drive swapped out? (Answer: No)

Back in the day, we used to classify the paper "Top Secret" before we started typing.

The data are Confidential, Secret, or Top Secret independently of what classification's marked on it. Sources and methods or compartments add additional caveats.

(U) Unclassified stuff is open source. There may be other things that are (U) but I can't think of any.

(FOUO) Anything emanating from the Secretary of State touching on her job would be For Official Use Only.

Open source data that's corroborated by intel takes the classification of the intel in reporting. It's the corroboration that's classified, not necessarily the data itself.

Exactly, the document contains an overall classification based on the highest level of data or sources and methods found therein. Individual paragraph classification markings reflect the classification of the data, or sources and methods found within that para.

#28  According to engineering supervisor Tom Hakim and director of digital forensics Scott Gibbs (at We Recover Data.com) the Clinton server was running Windows Server 2008 and using Microsoft Exchange as its e-mail system. Need I say any more about Security ?
Well maybe...
It should be remembered that any time you send an e-mail on Microsoft Exchange a great amount of information is also being transmitted about the machine you are using. That information includes not only the serial number of of the machine itself but also the serial numbers of the mother board and all drives connected to that machine.
Considering the software in use on the Clinton server It should be a simple matter to determine whether the server and the drives she turns over are in fact the ones that contained the original e-mails in the first place.

These are records of communication over the internet.

Hillary could reliably erase her own archive. But incriminating emails are in the hands of persons and entities she has no control over. At least this must be the reasonable assumption.

Logically any party in possession of such emails would wait for her to assume the presidency before using them to get leverage.

Unless there actually is nothing incriminating in Hillary's email correspondence (fat chance!) Hillary will be a President under Damocles' Sword.

Hillary Clinton email certification released
[POLITICO] Hillary Clinton's
... sometimes described as For a good time at 3 a.m. call Hillary and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Al Haig ...
first official legal statement about her handling of her email records was released Monday, triggering an immediate response from critics who said it failed to resolve questions swirling around her use of a private email account and server while she served as secretary of state from 2009 to 2013.

The one-page declaration, signed "HR Clinton" and first reported by POLITICO on Saturday, was filed Monday afternoon in federal court in Washington in connection with a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit seeking records about the employment arrangements of one of Clinton's top aides, Huma Abedin.

I have directed that all my emails on clintonemail.com in my custody, that were or potentially were federal records be provided to the Department of State
"While I do not know what information may be 'responsive' for purposes of this law suit, I have directed that all my emails on clintonemail.com in my custody, that were or potentially were federal records be provided to the Department of State, and on information and belief, this has been done," wrote Clinton, the leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Clinton also responded to a request from U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan for information about how Abedin and another top Clinton aide, Cheryl Mills, used Clinton's personal email system.

"Cheryl Mills did not have an account on clintonemail.com. Huma Abedin did have such an account, which was used at times for government business," Clinton declared.

Clinton's declaration (posted here) did not add much to the sum total of public knowledge about the use of her email server. However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
the filing did highlight the fact that Mills and Abedin did not respond directly to Sullivan's request for similar information. Instead, they submitted letters from their attorneys describing efforts made to search for work-related emails and provide them to State and to a House committee investigating the Benghazi attack.

The suit that prompted Clinton's official statement was filed by the conservative group Judicial Watch. In a court filing later Monday (posted here), Judicial Watch attorney Michael Bekesha complained that her submission didn't really advance the case.

"Neither the Court nor Plaintiff is any closer to knowing where responsive records may exist," Bekesha wrote. "It is of the utmost importance that all federal records in the possession of Mrs. Clinton, Ms. Abedin, and Ms. Mills be returned to Defendant to enable Defendant to conduct a search reasonably calculated to uncover all responsive records."

'Top Secret' emails found as Clinton probe expands to key aides
[McClatchy] WASHINGTON -- As pressure builds on Hillary Clinton to explain her official use of personal email while serving as secretary of state, she faced new complications Tuesday. It was disclosed her top aides are being drawn into a burgeoning federal inquiry and that two emails on her private account have been classified as "Top Secret."
Two of the four of 40 released, of thousands of emails, and this is the person who wants to be President of the United States ?
The inspector general for the Intelligence Community notified senior members of Congress that two of four classified emails discovered on the server Clinton maintained at her New York home contained material deemed to be in one of the highest security classifications - more sensitive than previously known.
Might be interesting to see the Date Time Groups (DTG) of that particular traffic. One wonders what it contained and how that data might correlate to the attack on Benghazi ?
The notice came as the State Department inspector general's office acknowledged that it is reviewing the use of "personal communications hardware and software" by Clinton's former top aides after requests from Congress.
Beyond "STUPID"... it's now in the realm of willful criminal acts leading to treason. Her access to classified documents and information should immediately be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
"We will follow the facts wherever they lead, to include former aides and associates, as appropriate," said Douglas Welty, a spokesman for the State Department's inspector general.

Despite the acknowledgment, the State Department inspector general's office has left numerous unanswered questions, including exactly who and what is being investigated. The office initially declined to comment and referred questions to the Intelligence Community inspector general's office, which said it is not currently involved in any inquiry into aides and is being denied full access to aides' emails by the State Department. Clinton, herself, is not a target.
Ok, so once again, who lifted the original classification markings and downloaded the data to an UNCLAS box and/or thumb drives ?

#9  RICO.

As for people voting for her, Dems are knee-jerk voters. Evidence for that? Marion Barry, Mayor of DC after his drug conviction, tax evasion and other things - still kept getting reelected. Then there's Alcee Hastings - impeached by the Democratic controlled congress for bribery and perjury, and the Dem voters subsequently put him in Congress where he remains to this day.

The only common thread is they are Democrats, or else they are black. So either Dems are oblivious to criminal conduct, or blacks are oblivious to criminal conduct, and vote unthinkingly and unhesitating for the party label.

Either way, criminality is no bar to office for Dems - they automatically get black bloc votes, and the press helps cover the other parts up by failing to cover it like they do the opponents behavior.

#14  According to this report "there is no evidence she used encryption to shield the emails from foreign intelligence services or other prying eyes."

Assuming that the Chinese, Russians and others knew about Hillary's email arrangement this means that all of the mails were de facto cc-ed to the FSB and other interested parties. There wouldn't even be the need to compromise the Clinton server, listening in at one ip hop would have been enough.

Was this an elaborate scheme to feed false intelligence to adversaries? Or are these people just mad?

Barack Obama's inability to grasp reality
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Barack Obama
That’s just how white folks will do you....
is afraid he might be a warmonger at heart. Who knew? But making war against an Islamic enemy? That defies everyone's imagination.

The president keeps changing his arguments for approval of his deal with the mullahs in Iran, and the tone of his denunciations of anybody who argues with him grows ever harsher and disrespectful. The latest refinement of tone is his assertion that it's his way or the highway, that war with Iran lies at the end of that forbidden highway.

But who would start such a war? He doesn't say. As crazy as the mullahs are, the craziness lies in a distorted theology, not in statecraft. The mullahs are smart enough not to believe everything they say, and go to war against the United States. We logically conclude that Mr. Obama is afraid that he might be the one to start the war. Who else does he think it could be? His "it's me or war" is rendered nonsense, and he knows it.

Many bad things happen when a leader is weak, confused and forever searching for a reason to do nothing. For all his softness on Islam, he has little insight into the men who send out mobs to cry "death to America." He can't imagine that men who listen to the call to evening prayer that so captivated him as a boy in Indonesia -- "the prettiest sound on Earth" -- actually dream of bringing death to America.

The international order so carefully put together, and guarded so faithfully, by American presidents after the Cold War was won, has begun to unravel under this president to the consternation of America's most faithful allies and to the unexpected delight of the nation's enemies. The anarchy that follows this unraveling is the legacy that he will leave behind him when he takes that long, lingering helicopter ride out of town on inauguration day 2017.

Donald Trump, 'greatest jobs President,' wants to shut down H&R Block, put 80,000 Americans out of work
[NYDAILYNEWS] I guess H&R would fold in seven days or less if we had a sensible tax code. Too bad. So sad. Or maybe they could just switch their focus to EPA compliance.

Trump: Maybe we should keep funding Planned Parenthood on non-abortion services
[HOTAIR] Medicaid pays for Ob/Gyn service. If a woman is pregnant then she should have an obstetrician. If she's not pregnant then she should see her gynecologist periodically. I'm not sure what service Planned Parenthood provides that physicians don't.

Ben Carson responds to Hillary Clinton on abortion
[CBSNEWS] Neurosurgeon and 2016 Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson clarified his stance on abortion Tuesday in the wake of an attack from Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as The Liberatress of Libya and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Henry Clay ...
, who criticized the entire GOP field for being offensive to women.

"I spent my entire career as a pediatric neurosurgeon, frequently staying up all night, fighting, struggling to save the life of little babies, even operating on babies inside the womb. So I don't think it should be hard for anyone to understand that I am totally opposed to killing babies," Carson said on "CBS This Morning."

When host Norah O'Donnell asked whether he opposed all abortions -- even one that might be necessary to save the life of the mother -- Carson said, "You have to look at the individual situation."

"That's largely a spurious argument because we have advanced so much in medicine these days that that situation rarely occurs," he said.
Dr. Carson is entirely correct regarding rape and incest. The progressive argument also fails to acknowledge the remedy of adoption in these very remote circumstances.

Bush: Clinton shares mistakes leading to Islamic State rise
[BIGSTORY.AP.ORG] Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush will step up his criticism of Hillary Rodham Clinton
... sometimes described as The Heroine of Tuzla and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Philander C. Knox ...
and her tenure as secretary of state on Tuesday, arguing in a speech that the Democratic front-runner shares in the mistakes that he says led to the rise of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
The former Florida governor will also call for meatier U.S. leadership in the Middle East, which he says is needed to defeat the bully boy group and an ideology that "is, to borrow a phrase, the focus of evil in the modern world."

"The threat of global jihad, and of the Islamic State in particular, requires all the strength, unity and confidence that only American leadership can provide," Bush will say, according to excerpts of his prepared remarks.

In a speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, Bush plans to tie the rise of the bully boy Sunni group to the departure of U.S. forces from Iraq in 2011. IS occupies a large swath of Iraq and Syria and has a presence elsewhere in the region.

"ISIS grew while the United States disengaged from the Middle East and ignored the threat," Bush will say. "And where was Secretary of State Clinton in all of this?

Hurricane Trump blows away speech police: Column
[USATODAY] The activists, academics, politicians and journalists whose frantic daily search for outrage in something someone said somewhere have left us a presidential campaign focused on menstruation and reports that Fox News chairman Roger Ailes called Donald Trump to whisper sweet nothings in his ear. It's like the boys' locker room in middle school without the air of sophistication.

So it's little wonder that a good chunk of Americans think something is wrong. Our country has real problems that we far too frequently put aside so we can revel in public floggings delivered by our linguistic morality police. If they don't deliver solutions, they at least deliver ratings.

So, as the grievance-industrial complex profitably fills its prisons with the latest arrestees, we're stuck in a crisis that will never end. The world is stuck with a sad reality: Donald Trump is not alone. Politicians, celebrities and big business bosses, just like actual people, say stupid and insensitive things.

The landfall of Hurricane Trump couldn't have come at a better time. For Americans who'd like Washington to focus on reality and not the pointless controversy of the moment, the flippant billionaire seems to be a source of the problem, but they have it all wrong. He's the solution. With Storm Donald and his whirlwind of offensive comments now blowing by at 140 ratings points an hour, there might be some hope that, in the chaos, our farcical national debate
... an expenditure of personal wind at the national level that leads to face-making and other histrionics but can't be shown to have ever solved an issue ...
might change.

That certainly won't happen anytime soon and certainly not because Trump himself will turn the conversation toward substance. No, the change will come only after the storm blows itself out, leaving in its wake a more substantive debate among more credible candidates. But before the tempest stills, Trumps unique combination of ego and bluster might turn the speech police into the laughing stocks they deserve to be.

Maybe last weekend's blood feud between Trump and Megyn Kelly of Fox News won't turn our self-appointed language guardians into a punchline, but just wait a day. TV anchors, opposing politicians and the social media mob can't get worked into a good frenzy before another Category Five Trumpism flattens the next taboo. By the time the tut-tutting morality police show up, Hurricane Donald's path of destruction has moved on to another state or another network.
