Operation Lone Star: More than 30,000 foreign nationals turned back to Mexico
[JustTheNews] Texas “continues to fill the dangerous gaps left by the Biden Administration's refusal to secure the border,” Gov. Greg Abbott said.

Texas law enforcement working through Operation Lone Star have turned back more than 30,000 foreign nationals to Mexico as of March 24.

Since March 2021, officers have apprehended over 359,000 illegal foreign nationals and made over 26,000 criminal arrests, with more than 23,000 felony charges reported. They’ve also seized more than 373 million lethal doses of fentanyl, more than enough to kill everyone in the United States.

“Operation Lone Star continues to fill the dangerous gaps left by the Biden Administration's refusal to secure the border,” Gov. Greg Abbott said. “Every individual who is apprehended or arrested and every ounce of drugs seized would have otherwise made their way into communities across Texas and the nation due to President [Joe] Biden's open border policies.”

In the first five months of fiscal 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Texas Department of Public Safety and National Guard members have apprehended more than 4,300 Chinese nationals at the southwest border, with over 1,300 reported last month alone.

This represents a 900% increase in Chinese national apprehensions at the southern border over the year.

“Cartels are profiting off the influx by charging Chinese individuals,” Abbott said, charging “$35,000 to $50,000 a person to be smuggled into the country.”

He made the announcement after U.S. Border Patrol agents in Texas apprehended 90 Chinese nationals illegally entering the U.S. in the Rio Grande Valley last Thursday, a record.

Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Gloria Chavez said it was the greatest number of Chinese apprehended in a single day by RGV agents since 2010, bringing the total number of Chinese nationals apprehended in the sector this fiscal year to date to 1,667.

The RGV Sector in Texas leads the U.S. in Chinese apprehensions with 91% of those apprehended being single adults. Apprehensions so far this fiscal year are also a 930% increase compared to the same time frame last year, Chavez said.

OLS law enforcement officers continue to apprehend human smugglers.

In Kinney County, during a high-speed pursuit, Texas DPS eventually apprehended a human smuggler from Dallas. Once the pursuit ended with the driver pulling the truck over to the side of the road, the driver and five illegal foreign nationals hiding inside bailed out attempting to evade arrest. They were all caught, law enforcement said.

The driver was charged with evading arrest and smuggling of persons. All five illegal foreign nationals were referred to Border Patrol.

“Kinney County has seen a dramatic increase in illegal alien activity,” Kinney County Sherrif Brad Coe told The Center Square. The number of people trespassing on private property caught on game cameras currently averages 165 people a night, he said. These are considered “gotaways,” he said, people who intentionally seek to evade capture by law enforcement.

The numbers are on track for an estimated 60,225 foreign nationals projected to walk through the county evading law enforcement this calendar year, he said – that's nearly 20 times the population of the county.

In neighboring Val Verde County, DPS troopers uncovered three Mexican nationals hiding in bales of hay being transported in the flat bed of a pickup truck. A trooper engaged in a traffic stop on US-277 and after investigating the truck discovered three Mexican men of military age wearing camouflage hiding inside a hidden compartment under the bales of hay. They’d all illegally entered the U.S. in Texas.

The driver was from Florida, attempting to smuggle them roughly six hours east to Houston. He was apprehended and charged with smuggling of persons.

Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez has been arguing for at least two years that the county is facing “unprecedented challenges.” He argues the border crisis “is not going to stay on the border. It's going to affect all of us in the state of Texas and all of us in the United States.”

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief March 26, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • COUNTER ISIS-K SECURITY OPERATIONS IN KABUL – Taliban security forces appear to have conducted two counter-terrorism operations in Kabul on Saturday. Both operations reportedly targeted ISIS-K cells. The first operation was conducted in Police District 12 and an ISIS-K leader, Asad Laghmani, was reportedly killed in a raid on a suspected safe house. Laghmani is thought to have planned the attack on the Ministry of the Interior Mosque several months ago. The second operation appears to have targeted a safe house in Police District 5 and began when Taliban forces used a ‘barrel mine’ to breach the building. The only reported casualty so far has been Laghmani but sources say several other ISIS-K personnel were killed and the body count is expected to rise as more information is made available. A source present for the first operation claims a satellite phone (Iridium 9575 model) was found in the house and the call logs were intact. Such information could shed light on the potential external support ISIS-K has been receiving.

  • TALIBAN REPAIR APPROXIMATELY 300 MILITARY VEHICLES – The Taliban Ministry of Defense reported that 300 vehicles that had been sabotaged by US forces prior to the retreat from Afghanistan had been repaired and were being sent to select military districts. The repairs were conducted by the 205th Al Badar Corps. Attrition among the vehicles used by the Taliban has been high and a source in the Ministry of Defense said that leaders are concerned by a lack of bench stock parts (alternators/generators and electrical components in particular). The source went on to say that efforts to procure replacement parts had not been successful and a plan to manufacture the parts in Afghanistan had been on the table for nearly a year but had not been acted upon.

  • ISLAMIC SCHOLAR BEHEADED IN JAWZJAN PROVINCE – Reportedly, the incident took place on Friday in the village of Qarqin. The man’s name was said to be Abdul Wadood and is said to have been the son of a senior Commander under Marshal Dostum. This information has not been confirmed yet but is being reported on several news and social media sites.

  • AFGHAN CHILDREN SENT TO GERMANY FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT RETURN OVER WEEKEND – 50 children who had been sent to Germany for medical treatment last year returned to Afghanistan this weekend. The children required treatment for a variety of conditions and a second return flight is scheduled for next month. The children had been medically evacuated by the German Peace Village Foundation.

  • FORMER PRESIDENT KARZAI MEETS WITH MEMBERS OF FORMER REGIME IN LONDON – The BBC has reported on a meeting in London between the former President and several elected and cabinet officials from the former regime in London to discuss engagement strategies for the Taliban.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Kabul: Taliban security forces raided a reputed ISIS-K safe house in Police District 12. The Taliban released updates on the operation in a series of tweets, claiming to have killed Asad Laghmani (codename QAIS) in the operation. Laghmani is suspected of planning the attack on the Ministry of the Inferior Mosque some months ago.
Kabul: Taliban security forces employed a ‘barrel mine’ to breach a suspected ISIS-K home in Police District 5 on Saturday evening (1730hrs local). Automatic weapons fire was reported for nearly 1.5hrs from the beginning of the clash. No reports of casualties have been received.

NEXT 24 HOURS
  • MORE SECURITY OPERATIONS POSSIBLE – The Taliban is enjoying a string of successes against ISIS-K over the past few months and it is possible that another operation(s) could be launched soon. Based on the precise nature of the counter-terrorism operations in 2023, the Taliban appear to have gotten much better at intelligence gathering. In many instances, the locations of the operations has been exact and the Taliban typically come away from the operations with computers, phones, and/or prisoners. They have learned to conduct effective surveillance operations and many analysts believe the Taliban may have penetrated ISIS-K and have used a network to target the group across the country. At-risk Afghans should be watchful of occupied vehicles that appear to loiter in areas they frequent. Concentrations of Taliban security vehicles with large troop contingents could also mean an operation is about to take place.

  • PAKISTAN: PTI RALLY AT MINAR-I-PAKISTAN A POTENTIAL FLASHPOINT – Police have been busy in Lahore as they station shipping containers and commandeer trucks to block routes to the Minar-i-Pakistan location. Truck drivers have been ordered to park their trucks along thoroughfares and have been told to remain until noon today. Internet services have been down across much of the city in a presumed attempt to disrupt the rally. The former PM claimed several times on Saturday that the rally would be the largest in the history of the country and has promised to divulge his plan to retake the country. Police in Punjab issued a threat stating that ‘Hostile Intelligence Agencies” were planning to take action against the rally in order to destabilize the country. They say that intercepted messages to the terrorist group, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar asked Commander Mukarram Khurasani to “Cause instability in the country by whatever means.” The threat alert also mentioned that terrorists might wear police uniforms. At-risk Afghans in Lahore are advised to shelter at home until the rally concludes and is dispersed as any incident could provoke general mayhem under such tense conditions.

  • TALIBAN FOREIGN MINISTER DELIVERS IMPASSIONED PLEA FOR RECOGNITION – Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Foreign Minister for the Taliban published an article in Al Jazeera calling on the world to recognize the Taliban as the rightful government and to give Afghanistan a seat at the table. The Foreign Minister used a remarkably persuasive tone in his message and sought to assure the region/international community of the regime’s intentions. He laid the blame for the economic crisis on the US-imposed sanctions and urged leaders to release the frozen funds so they could be used to ameliorate problems for the citizenry. However, he employed misdirection when discussing the issues facing minorities and women in the country. While the article illustrates the Foreign Minister is evolving as a statesman, it is unlikely to move many to shift their positions in regard to dealing with the Taliban. Certainly not while half the population has been muzzled and disenfranchised (women) and the minority ethnic groups have no voice in governing the country.

  • US/IRAN PROXY WAR IN SYRIA FLARES UP – 1 US citizen was killed and 6 military members were injured when Iranian-backed militias launched a drone attack on a coalition military base in Northern Syria on Thursday. The US responded with air strikes against 2 militia (rumored to be IRGC) facilities in Eastern Syria. Yesterday, US sources confirmed that 10 rockets were fired at the coalition ‘Green Village’ compound in Northeastern Syria. The rockets were far off target and at least one was said to have landed in an area where non-combatants were living and caused some injuries. Nearly 80 attacks against US installations in Syria have been recorded since 2021 but some observers are concerned that Iran is being prodded by Russia to ‘play tougher’ against the US. It is not clear if the latest attack will provoke another US response.

  • PAKISTAN SECURITY FORCES CONTINUE ROUNDUP OF PTI ACTIVISTS – Punjab has been the most active Province during the crackdown and several senior party officials had their homes raided across the Province on Friday. While the leaders themselves were presumably ‘tipped off’ about the raids and were not home, some family members and other PTI loyalists were arrested in their stead. A spokesman for the PTI party announced that over 300 party members were currently being held by police. For its part, the Government adopted a reconciliatory tone and has called for a dialogue with party leaders to resolve differences and lower tensions across the country.

NEXT 24 HOURS
THREAT TO MOSQUES CONTINUES – While the reported threat of an ISIS-K action against a Shia Mosque did not materialize on Friday, a social media account affiliated with ISIS-K reiterated a similar threat in Balkh Province on Friday afternoon. The general threat warned worshipers they would be targeted if they chose to worship in Mosques deemed ‘friendly’ to the Taliban. No specifics were mentioned but our assessment is that Mosques will continue to be a priority target for ISIS-K throughout Ramadan.

Pakistan court sentences man to death for blasphemy
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An anti-terrorism court in northwest Pakistain has convicted and sentenced a Moslem man to death after he was accused of posting blasphemous content in a WhatsApp group.

Blasphemy is a hugely sensitive issue in Moslem-majority Pakistain, where even unproven allegations can stir mobs and violence.

Syed Muhammad Zeeshan was convicted under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and Anti-Terrorist Act by the court in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistain's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire...
on Friday.
Since the blasphemer is a Syed, I'm guessing he's a Shiite.
"Accused Syed Muhammad Zeeshan, son of Syed Zakaullah in jug has been convicted and sentenced after being found guilty," the court order said, a copy of which was obtained by AFP.

Zeeshan, who is a resident of the northwest city of Mardan, was also fined 1.2 million rupees ($4,300) and handed a total of 23 years imprisonment.

He has the right to appeal.
Good luck widdat.
The case arose after Muhammad Saeed, a resident of Talagang in Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

province filed an application with the Federal Investigation Agency two years ago accusing Zeeshan of posting blasphemous content in a WhatsApp group, Saeed’s counsel Ibrar Hussain told AFP.

The "FIA had confiscated Zeeshan’s cell-phone and its forensic examination proved him guilty," he said.

While Pakistain’s laws prohibiting blasphemy
...the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence to a deity, or sacred objects, or toward something considered sacred or inviolable. Some religions consider it to be a crime. In Pakistain you can commit blasphemy by looking cross-eyed at a Koran...
can carry a potential death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
, so far it has never been enforced for the crime.

Although many cases involve Moslems accusing fellow Moslems, rights self-proclaimed geniuss have warned that religious minorities -- particularly Christians -- are often caught in the crossfire, with blasphemy charges used to settle personal scores.

According to the National Commission of Justice and Peace, a human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
and legal aid group in Pakistain, 774 Moslems and 760 members of various minority religious groups were accused of blasphemy in the last 20 years.

Two LeT associates held in Bandipora
[GREATERKASHMIR] Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two terrorist associates of LeT outfit in Sumlar area of Bandipora in north Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
"Acting on specific information regarding movement of terrorist associates, Police along with Army (14RR) & CRPF (3rd BN) at a checkpoint established at Sumlar near Fisheries Farm Bandipora intercepted two suspected persons identified as Abrar Ahmad Wani @Abu Qadir and Danish Pervaiz, both residents of Sumlar Bandipora," said a police front man.

"During checking, 02 Chinese grenades & other incriminating materials have been recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in jug," he said.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 40/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Bandipora and further investigation has been initiated.

Turkish warplanes strike PKK positions in northern Iraq
[Shafaq News] On Friday, a security source in the Duhok of Iraqi Kurdistan reported that Ottoman Turkish warplanes had bombed the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) positions north of the Governorate.

The source informed Shafaq News agency that Ottoman Turkish planes had struck PKK twice on Friday evening in the Matin Mountain range near the village of Sekiri in the Amadiyah district.

The PKK is a Kurdish holy warrior group fighting for greater autonomy and rights for Kurds in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...

Three ISIS militants killed in a string of airstrikes in Diyala
[Shafaq News] The Iraqi Air Force has successfully carried out a precision Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
operation against ISIS targets in the Diyala Province, killing three members of the murderous Moslem group.

A source told Shafaq News Agency that the operation targeted ISIS hideouts in the Hemrin Mountains and Hemrin Lake areas, where the terrorist group has been known to launch attacks against civilians and security forces.

Three ISIS holy warriors were reportedly killed in the attack.

Located in eastern Iraq, Diyala has been a hotspot for terrorist activity in recent years, particularly by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The governorate shares a long border with Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
and is home to a diverse population, including Sunni and Shiite Moslems, Kurds, and other ethnic and religious minorities.

ISIS has been active in the governorate since 2014, when it captured large swathes of territory in Iraq and declared a caliphate. The group has carried out numerous attacks against civilians and security forces in the province, targeting both Sunni and Shiite communities.

In response, the Iraqi government has launched a series of military operations to eliminate the threat posed by ISIS in Diyala and other parts of the country.

Despite significant gains against the group in recent years, ISIS remains active in some parts of Diyala, using the rugged terrain to its advantage. The Iraqi security forces continue to carry out operations to degrade the group's capabilities and prevent it from regrouping.

The security situation in Diyala remains complex, with ongoing tensions between different ethnic and religious communities, as well as the threat posed by ISIS and other terrorist groups.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Citing ‘Islamo-Nazi ideologies,’ judge refused to free anti-overhaul demonstrator
[IsraelTimes] Tel Aviv court’s Menachem Klein claims protesters aim ’to destroy our country,’ recalls trip to Holocaust sites in call for Jewish unity; lawyer slams ’political statements’

A judge on Thursday refused to release a protester arrested during nationwide demonstrations against the government’s judicial overhaul, citing the anti-government opinionated hairbags’ alleged "Islamo-Nazi ideologies" that he said want to destroy Israel while decrying the "suffering" caused by the months-long rallies.

The decision, which Judge Menachem (Mario) Klein of the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court sent to the demonstrator’s lawyer, also hit out at the protesters while citing his tour of Nazi death camps and Jewish ghettoes in Poland several years ago.

The suspect was arrested outside the police headquarters in Tel Aviv after he and other demonstrators poured red paint on the stairs outside the building before laying down on them and playing dead, in an act of protest art.

Following his arrest for harming governing symbols and disturbing the peace, the protester’s lawyer asked that his client be released instead of remaining in jug overnight, a request rebuffed by Klein.

"If the petitioner and his friends succeed in their missions after months of repeated disruptions; blocking main roads; causing damage to citizens who just want to get to work, school or a medical appointment; refusing to serve [in the military] or pay taxes, etc.; and then let’s say at the end of three months of suffering [caused] to the country’s citizens, the government surrenders and cancels all the initiatives and legislation. Then what?" Klein wrote.

The judge then speculated that after a two-week pause, the opposing side would adopt similar attacks, leading to another "three months of suffering" ending with the government again folding by agreeing to advance the legislation it just scrapped due to protests.

"And it happens again, God forbid, and on and on we go," he said.

Klein went on to recall his visit to Poland several years ago with Supreme Court Chief Justice Esther Hayut.

"This is the first time I set foot on Polish soil, which is soaked with Jewish blood. This tour strengthened my sense that without a strong IDF and independent judicial system that safeguards human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
, we will not survive for long," he said.

He then recalled his astonishment that "the Jews were still not united" even as they were faced with the Holocaust, saying they continued to squabble among themselves as if nothing had changed.

"It was there that it dawned on me that we here in Israel depend on each other and if we do not internalize this, ultimately we will be hung up alongside each other," he said, in a play on the Hebrew word for "hang" which also means "depend."

The judge concluded: "The State of Israel is contending with Islamo-Nazi ideologies that openly declare their hope to destroy our country... We must not help them with this."

Following another hearing, the suspect was released Friday morning to four days of house arrest, as his lawyer slammed Klein’s decision and reasoning.

"It is expected of a judge to stick to the sphere of judicial dispute before him," Nir Alfasa was quoted as saying by the Ynet news site.

"The judge’s decision clearly and unnecessarily deviates from the sphere of the ruling, while using political statements against the protest and overall expressing a general view not related to the case before him" the attorney added.

The suspect was among at least 92 people across the country during Thursday’s protests, dubbed a "day of paralysis," amid nearly three months of mass demonstrations in opposition to the government’s judicial overhaul plans.

As it stands, the legislative package will — among other things — allow the Knesset to override court decisions with the barest majority, preemptively shield laws from judicial oversight, and put the selection of judges in the hands of coalition politicians.

While supporters say the judicial overhaul will rebalance power away from an overly opinionated hairbag court, critics argue the moves will remove essential checks on executive and legislative power, putting democracy in peril and leaving the rights of many undefended.

Hundreds of thousands join nationwide protests, with key overhaul law about to pass
[IsraelTimes] 200,000 rally in Tel Aviv ahead of planned ’week of paralysis,’ with coalition set to pass law to take control of judicial appointments; 44 held, water cannon used to clear highway

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis took part in nationwide rallies Saturday evening for the 12th straight week of mass protests against the government’s radical plans to overhaul the judicial system, ahead of the expected passage next week of a core part of the shakeup.

As the protests were held, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant gave a televised address in which he called for the coalition to halt the legislative push until after Passover and several holidays next month to allow for talks on judicial reform, while stressing his support for making changes to the judiciary and calling for the protests to immediately stop. Coalition sources said the legislation would go ahead as planned.

Troops fire at Israeli man who allegedly ran West Bank checkpoint after Huwara attack
[IsraelTimes] Military says driver tried to bypass soldiers securing Tapuach Junction, blocked for all traffic after drive-by shooting; motorist claims he identified as Israeli

Troops shot up an Israeli man’s car after he allegedly ran a checkpoint in the West Bank on Saturday night, as forces were searching for a Paleostinian gunman who maimed two soldiers earlier.

The Israel Defense Forces said that following the shooting attack in the West Bank town of Huwara, south of Nablus, roads in the area had been closed.

An Israeli man who had arrived at the Tapuach Junction — which was blocked for all traffic — was stopped by troops to be questioned. The IDF said the car continued driving without permission and attempted to bypass the checkpoint.

In response, soldiers shot up the vehicle, hitting one of the tires.

According to the Kan public broadcaster, the man told the soldiers he was Israeli and was attempting to reach the settlement of Yitzhar, and that his 10-year-old son was in the back seat. The driver said the soldiers fired five times at him.

There were no injuries in the incident. The IDF said it would further investigate the troops’ shooting.

Shortly before the incident, two Israeli soldiers were maimed in a drive-by shooting attack in Huwara.

According to the IDF, the two soldiers were hit by gunfire while securing the Route 60 highway in the town.

The pair were initially listed in serious and moderate condition. On Sunday morning, Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikvah said both soldiers were in moderate and stable condition and were not suffering any life-threatening injuries.

The suspected attacker expeditiously departed at a goodly pace by car. Amid a manhunt for the gunman, the IDF closed several roads in the area. Paleostinians entering and exiting Nablus were being questioned, the IDF said.

It was the third shooting attack to occur in Huwara in recent weeks.

Police remove dozens of Palestinians from Temple Mount, suspecting them of planning violence
A regular activity of the Northern Branch of the Islamic Movement, the militant arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in Israel, preparatory to attacking the IDF and Jewish worshippers in the Wailing Wall plaza below. Thus do they think to demonstrate that they are the true owners of the Holy Land, not the Jewish state.
[IsraelTimes] Israel Police forces enter the Al Aqsa Mosque inside Jerusalem’s flashpoint Temple Mount holy site, removing dozens of Paleostinians who intended to spend the night there after the Moslem month of Ramadan began on Thursday.

Israel reportedly believes they planned to violent mostly peacefully oppose the entry of Jews into the compound in the morning.

Police sources say Jerusalem has agreed with the Jordanian Waqf authorities that no sleepovers would be held on the Temple Mount.

Nevertheless, the evacuation has sparked festivities and calls on Paleostinian social media to "defend" the mosque.

A security source told North Press that the detainees, Abu al-Hakam al-Shishani and Imad al-Din al-Pak, used to work for the HTS but they were arrested on charges of espionage in 2021.

The operation of handing the detainees over was attended by Abu Ayoub al-Maghribi, border officer; Abu Mariya al-Qahtani, an official in the HTS; and a number of members of the Ottoman Turkish Intelligence, the source added.

Such operations have been repeated several times based on prior coordination between the two parties, as the number of the foreign detainees who have been handed over to the Ottoman Turkish Intelligence by the HTS since summer of 2022 has exceeded 21 detainees, according to the source.

In Oct. 2022, the HTS handed over six foreign detainees to Ottoman Turkish intelligence.

6 members of Syrian government forces injured in IED in Deir ez-Zor
[NPASyria] Six members of National Defense of Syrian government forces were maimed on Saturday, after an IED went kaboom! in their car, in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, a governorate eastern Syria.

A military source of the National Defense in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that an IED planted on the route near Badia Nadera, south of Jabal al-Bashari, went kaboom! in a truck carrying a group of members of the Natioanl Defense, as they were going to collect truffle in the western desert of Deir ez-Zor.

Six members, who hail from Deir ez-Zor, were maimed and the truck was damaged, the source added.

In truffle hunting season, hundreds of truffle hunters have gone missing under mysterious circumstances, some of whom were killed by turbans or mines, while others were kidnapped. The fate of many is still unknown.

US strikes in Syria kill 19 as Biden vows to 'forcefully' protect personnel; Saturday IRGC, militias move bases in hope Yanks, Israelis won’t find them
[An Nahar] The corpse count from retaliatory U.S. strikes on Iran-linked groups in Syria following a deadly drone attack has risen to 19, a war monitor said Saturday, as Washington insisted it is not seeking conflict with Tehran.

Further rocket attacks by Iran-backed militias took place late Friday, prompting more strikes by coalition warplanes, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

Washington carried out the initial strikes after the Pentagon said a U.S. contractor died -- and another contractor and five military personnel were maimed -- by a drone "of Iranian origin" that struck a U.S.-led coalition base near Hasakeh in northeastern Syria on Thursday.

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that, at President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing...
's direction, he had ordered the "precision air strikes... in eastern Syria against facilities used by groups affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps".

On Saturday, the Britannia-based Observatory, which has a wide network of sources on the ground, said 19 people were killed in the first wave of U.S. strikes: three Syrian regime soldiers and 16 members of Iran-backed forces, including 11 Syrian nationals.

Following the strikes, Biden sought to lower the temperature saying the United States "does not seek conflict with Iran, but is prepared to act forcefully to protect our people."

- MORE ROCKET ATTACKS -
Hours after the strikes, 10 rockets were fired at American and coalition forces at the Green Village base in northeast Syria, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.

There were no injuries or damage to facilities at the base, but one rocket struck a home around five kilometres (three miles) away, causing minor wounds to two women and two children, CENTCOM added.

Iran-backed militias later Friday targeted a base in the Conoco gas field, prompting retaliatory strikes from coalition warplanes on targets in Deir Ezzor city, the Observatory said.

The war monitor said rocket fire then targeted coalition facilities at the al-Omar oil field base and in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, "causing material damage".

A "cautious calm" returned to the Deir Ezzor area in the early hours of Saturday morning, the Observatory said.

Militias affiliated with Iran's Revolutionary Guards have a heavy presence across Syria, especially around the border with Iraq, and south of the Euphrates in Deir Ezzor province, where the latest U.S. strikes took place.

The United States has about 900 troops in posts across northeastern Syria to keep pressure on the remnants of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group and support the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, which control most of the northeast.

The Pentagon said two F-15 fighters launched the retaliatory attack -- which front man Pat Ryder said was to protect U.S. personnel.

The strikes "were intended to send a very clear message that we will take the protection of our personnel seriously and that we will respond quickly and decisively if they are threatened," he said.

They were "proportionate and deliberate action intended to limit the risk of escalation to minimise casualties," he said.

- 'ALWAYS RESPOND' -
US personnel in Syria have frequently been targeted in attacks by militia groups the United States says are backed by Tehran.

Two of the U.S. service members maimed on Thursday were treated on site, while the three other troops and one US contractor were evacuated to Iraq, the Pentagon said.

"We will always take all necessary measures to defend our people and will always respond at a time and place of our choosing," said CENTCOM chief General Michael Kurilla.

In January, the U.S. military said three one-way attack drones were launched against the al-Tanf garrison in Syria, with one breaching its air defences and wounding two allied Syrian fighters.

Last August, Biden ordered similar retaliatory strikes in Deir Ezzor province after several drones targeted a coalition outpost, without causing any casualties.

"We know that these groups are sponsored by Iran," Ryder said.

"So Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
certainly plays a role in terms of ensuring that this type of activity doesn't happen," he said.

Iran’s IRGC changes posts fearing US, Israeli attacks in Syria Deir ez-Zor

[NPASyria] Iranian-backed militia changed on Saturday their posts and removed their flags in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, fearing of the repetition of being shelled again by the US-led Global Coalition forces.

On Friday night, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stationed west of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor and the Global Coalition forces stationed to the east exchanged a number of attacks, causing causalities.

A military source of Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun militia in the al-Mayadin desert, in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, said that the IRGC issued a circular to get down its falgs and raise the flags of the Syrian government.

The IR moved logistic equipment and ammunition to unknown direction, as two posts of the IR were evacuated near Muzarin Ali, in the al-Mayadin, to Fatsa, in the countryside of the al-Mayadin, amid strict measures among its holy warriors, according to the source.

The IRGC evacuated more than eight posts in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, and hard boyz who belong to Iranian and Asian nationalities were moved to an unknown direction, while Syrian and Iraqi hard boyz stayed in posts over which flags of the Syrian government forces are raised, the source added.
More from another NPA Syria article:
A military source of the IRGC said that three of their positions were attacked on Saturday at dawn. The attack lasted for hours, leaving 13 IRGC personnel dead and wounded, according to the source.

It added that Vanguard Camp in Deir ez-Zor, which contains the largest training camp of the IRGC, guard posts of the Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun militia, and the Hezbollah militia, were attacked.

Drone strikes also targeted Hezbollah headquarters near Ain Ali shrine in the al-Mayadin desert, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, and an IRGC position on the outskirt of the town of Abu Kamal, he added.

The IRGC militias were on high alert and evacuated their positions after attacking the Global Coalition base in the al-Omar oil field, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, and the Conoco gas field near the town of al-Azba, in northern Deir ez-Zor, with reports of casualties among US troops.

The Global Coalition forces in the al-Omar and Conoco fields raised their combat readiness to repel any attack against their bases as helicopters were deployed across the Euphrates River bed.

#1  Seems like we have the equivalent of FB Restrepo staffed with contractors in the middle of several different malevolent groups, none of which are Allie’s to us. I would think we would suffer more casualties than we do. As no one has articulated a coherent purpose for us to be there, I don’t think it will make much difference when we finally book it. Maybe laid off Disney workers can retool the base with Hall of Presidents level animatronics to keep the shooting going for a while after we leave so that we can keep up our end of the effort to keep Syria in chaos.
