Afghanistan
Man Tortured to Death in Northern Afghanistan
[KhaamaPress] Unidentified men tortured and killed a man in the Sayad district of Sar-e-Pol province in northern Afghanistan, local Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
officials said.

Authorities say that on Saturday, the 5th of November, in the Angashka village of Sayad district, a man by the name of Mohammad Naeem was murdered by unidentified people.

According to Din Mohammad Nazari, the front man for the Taliban administration chief of police in Sar-e-pol province, the victim was first tortured before being strangled with a cloth.

The spokesperson of the Taliban police chief for the province said that the motive of the murder is yet to be determined by the investigating teams.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
the Taliban official merely mentioned that an investigation was ongoing and made no mention of detaining or arresting anyone in relation to the torture and murder.

In recent months, the reports of unsolved, mysterious murders have increased. In the most recent incident, a girl was killed on November 4 in the Miramor district of Daikundi province in central Afghanistan by unknown people.

The 12-year-old girl’s body was reportedly discovered close to her place of residence with her scarf tied around her neck.

The Taliban have repeatedly asserted that the group has maintained security in Afghanistan, but each of these mysterious deaths around the country disproves its assertions.

Hamid Karzai’s brother, a key Afghan businessman detained by Taliban at Kabul airport
[KhaamaPress] Mahmood Karzai, a key Afghan businessman and brother of former President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai

’s prime minister’s office who does not want to be named in this report told Khaama Press that Mahmood Karzai was detained by the Taliban’s intelligence service from the Kabul airport as he was boarding on an Ariana Airlines flight to Dubai.

This has Mahmood Karzai’s recent picture with long beard and traditional Afghan dressing went viral on social media last week. He usually used to be clean-shaved with suit and necktie.

The source who spoke to Khaama Press believes the motive behind the detention of Mahmood Karzai maybe the political remarks of his brother Hamid Karzai.

Bilal Karimi, the Islamic Emirate's deputy spokesperson, confirmed that Mahmood Karzai was prohibited from leaving Afghanistan due to a legal issue but denied the arrest of Mahmood Karzai.

Daily Evacuation Brief November 7, 2022
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • KAPISA SEES MORE VIOLENCE – The NRF and Azadi Front have been very active in recent days across Kapisa Province. A night attack yesterday on a Taliban observation post was said to be successful and an indeterminate number of Taliban were killed or wounded. The attack marks the third significant action in the Province in the past 3 weeks. It is possible the NRF is attempting to open another front and divert attention away from Panjshir and Badakhshan.

  • A YOUNG WOMAN KILLED IN SAMANGAN – A photo of a young woman was received today and is making the rounds on social media. She was said to have been killed by unknown assailants in Samangan after refusing to marry Mullah Yasin Amer Ambar al-Maruf of the Dara Suf District. While the information has yet to be confirmed, outrage is spreading among the Afghan diaspora over the alleged incident.

  • ADDITIONAL INFO ON POSSIBLE CHEMICAL WEAPON RELEASE – Sources stated the previously reported gas leak in Kabul had killed 4 of the workers who were inadvertently exposed. A source said an emergency worker who had treated the workers said he overheard doctors saying the symptoms were similar to chlorine gas exposure with visible blisters on the skin and difficulty breathing. There has been no information about the location of the incident and/or the circumstances of the release. It should be mentioned that the incident could have been an accident and not terror-related. The Afghan Digest will continue to monitor and report.

  • TALIBAN MAKES COUNTER-NARCOTICS FIGHT A TOP PRIORITY – After a damming report by the UN and additional information provided by regional law enforcement agencies the Taliban leadership began taking the problem seriously. A roundup of addicts took place in Kabul and the Deputy Prime Minister announced to a Kyrgyz delegation that the IEA planned to halt all heroin exports over the coming year. A source in the Ministry of Health said the reports caught the leadership off-guard.

  • BODY OF TORTURED/MURDERED MAN FOUND IN SAR-E-POL – The body of a man named Mohammad Naeem was found in the Sayad District on Saturday. The man had clearly been tortured and killed although nobody knew who may have perpetrated the crime or why. The Taliban promised an investigation would be conducted but several mysterious killings have taken place over the last several months without any resolved cases. The public trust continues to erode.

CONFLICT TRACKER

NEXT 24 HOURS
KAPISA CONTINUES TO BE THE FOCUS FOR SECURITY OPERATIONS – After a third clash in Kapisa, the Taliban plan to dispatch even more GDI agents and security personnel to the Province to attempt to stamp out Resistance elements who are successfully operating there. While the house-to-house searches didn’t take place over the last twenty-four hours, they are expected to begin in earnest on Monday and Tuesday.

Somalia: Al-Shabaab attack at military base did not achieve target - army chief
More on this story from yesterday.
[Garowe] Somalia's Chief of Defense Forces General Odowaa Yusuf Rage says Saturday night's attack at a military training center in Mogadishu did not "achieve" the intended target, even with the fact that over 15 people are said to have died on spot according to multiple sources.

While addressing the media, General Odowaa said the jacket wallah targeted the Dhaga-badan training center while disguising himself as a recruit in the same facility. al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
has attacked the base in September with a similar suicide kaboom that killed over 10 people.

According to the Chief of Defense Forces, the attacker failed to "achieve his goal" noting that investigations into the deaths have immediately kicked off. The general noted that the attacker ass thwarted before making an inroad into the center, adding that he only managed the exterior.

So far, 15 people have been killed by state media maintains only five were killed and scored injured. The attack comes exactly a week after the hard boyz attacked downtown Mogadishu, killing over 120 people while injuring hundreds of others according to official reports.

A security source told Garowe Online that the camp which was attacked was recruiting youths to be trained in Egypt, who have been lining up outside while the government is at war with al-Shabaab. Egypt is the latest country to start training Somalia's National Army with the aim of eliminating al-Shabaab.

The first batch of about 1200 recruits traveled to Egypt last month, per the sources with the training being authorized by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. There were concerns that Egypt is using Somalia as a strategic partner in the Horn of Africa given her feud with Æthiopia over the Grand Renaissance dam.

While Æthiopia insists on filling the dam along the Blue Nile, Egypt believes such uncoordinated activities will lead to desertification in the north. The two countries alongside Sudan have been squabbling over the dam for the last couple of years, with the US calling for immediate dialogue.
Military officers in Somalia say at least five people were killed and 11 others maimed when a jacket wallah detonated explosives at the front gate of a military training camp in Mogadishu on Saturday evening.

The al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
hard boy group grabbed credit for the attack at the camp that has been targeted multiple times in the past.

Gen. Odawa Yusuf, chief of Somalia’s defense forces, told state media the bomber had been pretending to be a recruit at the General Dhaga-Badan military training camp in Wadajir district.

A military officer, Abdirahman Ali, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that "there were some fatalities for both the civilians walking along the street and the recruits."

The camp is located near the large Ottoman Turkish military base in Somalia.

Eight teenagers from Qatif region set to be executed in Saudi Arabia

against dissidents and anti-regime activist muppets.

The activist muppets have mounted a campaign under the Arabic hashtag "Stop the Slaughter" to demand the abolition of death penalties handed down to minors.

They identified the defendants as Abdullah al-Howaiti, Abdullah al-Derazi, Ali al-Sabiti, Hasan Zaki al-Faraj, Jalal Al Labad, Mahdi al-Mohsen, Javad Qariris, and Yusef al-Manasif.

The activist muppets pointed out that the General Prosecutor’s Office has sentenced Manasif, and at least five others, including a teenager named Sajjad Al Yassin, to death for apostasy — abandoning their Moslem faith, according to trial documents.

They went on to note that these six people are under trial in Saudi Arabia’s Specialized Criminal Court (SCC) since September 2019.

Manasif was violent mostly peacefully attacked and arrested back in April 2017, near the so-called Qatif Court of Justice. He was walking in the street when Saudi forces opened fire and detained him, without providing an arrest warrant or any reason for the measure.

Saudi authorities allowed Manasif’s family to meet him only six months after his detention, and he was kept in solitary confinement during that time. He was tortured several times by Saudi officers, beaten unconscious, and then taken to hospital.

Among the charges leveled against him are participation in the funerals of political opponents, taking part in anti-regime demonstrations and chanting slogans against the Riyadh regime, attempts to incite sedition and disturb national security, encouragement of sit-ins, protests and gatherings with the intent to harm the country’s stability, affiliation to terrorist outfits and shooting at security forces.

Eastern Province has been the scene of peaceful demonstrations since February 2011. Protesters have been demanding reforms, freedom of expression, the release of political prisoners, and an end to economic and religious discrimination against the oil-rich region.

The protests have been met with a heavy-handed crackdown by the regime. Security forces have increased security measures across the province.

Since bin Salman became Saudi Arabia’s de facto leader in 2017, the kingdom has arrested hundreds of activist muppets, bloggers, intellectuals and others for their political activism, showing almost zero tolerance for dissent even in the face of international condemnation of the crackdown.

Moslem scholars have been executed and women’s rights campaigners have been put behind bars and tortured as freedom of expression, association, and belief continue to be denied by the kingdom’s authorities.

Over the past years, Riyadh has also redefined its anti-terrorism laws to target activism.

Europe
Italy stops 35 migrants from getting off rescue ship in port
[AlAhram] Italian authorities prevented 35 migrants colonists they did not deem vulnerable from getting off a boat in Sicily on Sunday as Italia's far-right-led government takes a hard line against privately operated maritime rescue ships in Italian waters.

The impact of a directive ushered in by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi became clearer overnight. The Humanity 1, carrying 179 rescued passengers, was given access to the Sicilian port, but three other rescue boats run by non-governmental organizations and carrying 900 more people remained at sea.

The NGOs reported people sleeping on floors and decks, the spread of fever-inducing infections and scabies, and food and medical supplies nearing depletion. Some migrants colonists have been on the ships for more than two weeks.

Officials at the German-run charity SOS Humanity, which operates the Humanity 1, challenged Italia's decision to distinguish passengers considered "vulnerable'' or not. All the ship's passengers were rescued at sea, and that alone qualified them for a safe port under international law, the organization said.

"As we feared, not everyone was allowed to disembark,'' SOS Humanity spokesperson Wasil Schauseil said Sunday.

"Our doctor was asked to make a selection of the people who are in a bad medical condition, and the doctor replied everyone is in a vulnerable situation, so she would not make the selection,'' Schauseil said.

Over 100 of the 179 people on Humanity 1 were unaccompanied minors, according to the charity.

Two Italian doctors eventually boarded the ship after midnight and conducted exams through the night to determine which people on board had medical conditions that made them vulnerable.

"The doctors declared 36 people not in an emergency. After receiving the news, one person collapsed and lost consciousness and had to be taken by an ambulance,'' Schauseil said. "That is why 35 people are on board.

"You can imagine the condition of the people. It is very devastating,'' he said.

The Humanity 1 has not yet received orders to leave the port, as specified in the directive signed by three Italian ministers Friday night. It specified the ship could remain in Italian waters just long enough to determine which passengers were vulnerable, defined as minors and people with medical emergencies.

"Everyone has a right to disembark, and we expect everyone can disembark,'' Schauseil said. "We do not think this is valid under international law.''

Three other ships carrying rescued migrants colonists remained at sea, two in Italian waters and one in international waters, after the crews made repeated requests for safe ports.

The Norway-flagged Geo Barents, carrying 572 migrants colonists, and the German-run Rise Above, carrying 93, entered Italian waters east of Sicily over the weekend to seek protection from storm-swollen seas.

The Ocean Viking, operated by the European charity SOS Mediteranee, with 234 migrants colonists on board, remained in international waters, south of the Strait of Messina.

The confrontational stance taken by Premier Giorgia Meloni's government is reminiscent of the standoffs orchestrated by Matteo Salvini, now Meloni's infrastructure minister in charge of ports, during his brief 2018-2019 stint as interior minister.

Italia's new government is insisting the countries whose flags the charity-run ships fly must take in the migrants colonists. Late Friday, Piantedosi described such vessels as "islands'' under the jurisdiction of the flag countries.

In a Facebook video, Salvini repeated his allegations that the presence of the humanitarian boats encourages smugglers.

Nongovernmental organizations reject the government's interpretation, saying they are obligated by the law of the sea to rescue people in distress and that coastal nations are obligated to provide a safe port as soon as feasible.

While the humanitarian-run boats are being denied a safe port, thousands of migrants colonists have reached Italian shores over the last week, either on their own in fishing boats or after being rescued at sea by Italian authorities. They account for 85 percent of all arrivals, according to the government.

#1  All the ship's passengers were rescued at sea, and that alone qualified them for a safe port under international law, the organization said.

...Color me skeptical, but I suspect the routine is that the colonists get out to sea, and meet the NGO boats who then 'rescue' them.

#3  ...Color me skeptical, but I suspect the routine is that the colonists get out to sea, and meet the NGO boats who then 'rescue' them.

"Hey folks, get in the water for a bit so we can video your 'rescue' for our fundraising campaigns."

#7  I stand with the Cuban boat people who can transit the Atlantic in modified antique Chevy trucks and require no rescue or assistance from mamby pamby NGO's. There is probably not a quality fastball or slider amongst the entirety of this 179 "rescued" passengers. I demand that all these people be returned to point of origin until it can be demonstrated that they can slug over .300 in High A ball.

At least 25 dead, dozens missing in migrant boat sinking in Greece
[Rudaw] The dead bodies of three migrants colonists whose boat sank off the waters between the islands of Evia and Andros, east of the Greek capital, over the weekend were discovered on Saturday, Greece’s coasties confirmed to Rudaw, raising the confirmed corpse count to 25.

Of the 25 confirmed dead, five are children.

The Greek coastguard confirmed that a search-and-rescue operation has been ongoing for another 31 other people still reported missing.

Two of the 12 survivors, all men, were arrested on suspicion of being the smugglers that had organized the voyage from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
's Izmir.

The survivors, who were found on an uninhabited islet, had told Greek authorities that at least 68 people were on the sailboat.

Rudaw has learned that a significant number of Kurds were on the boat. Their identities have still remain unknown.

At least 27 people drowned in two separate shipwrecks last month, with both setting sails from Turkey to Greece.

Greece is one of the main routes into the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
for refugees and migrants colonists. However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
the flow was cut off following the arrival of nearly one million people, including Syrian Kurds, in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
after crossing to Greek islands close to Turkey in 2015.

Tens of thousands of mostly young Kurds left the Kurdistan Region for Europe last year in search of a better life, using people’s smuggling routes. A number of these migrants colonists died in freezing temperatures on the Belarus-Poland border and others drowned in the sea, suffering a catastrophic fate.

Dozens of mourning families received the bodies of their loved ones in Erbil in February. Their repatriation followed a directive issued by Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.

The bodies of 16 migrants colonists, who drowned in the deadliest migrant disaster in the English Channel, were returned to the Kurdistan Region in late December.

Hamas claims to arrest two Gazans who fired rockets at Israel
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian factions have agreed to coordinate actions against Israel and were unconnected to the missiles, terror group says, after attack last week following Israeli elections

It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
arrested two people over firing rockets at Israel last week, a source in the Paleostinian enclave told AFP.

The Israel Defense Forces said rockets were launched Thursday from Gaza, the first such military action since three days of cross-border fighting in August.

The incident prompted Hamas’s internal security services to detain two people "directly related to the firing of four rockets," said a Hamas official who requested anonymity.

"The Paleostinian factions have nothing to do with these rockets, which are aimed at giving the occupation [Israel] an excuse for continuing the aggression," the source told AFP.

The rocket fire was not claimed by any of the armed factions operating in Gaza, which has been ruled by Hamas since 2007.

It came hours after former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was declared the winner of the November 1 elections, and after an Islamic Jihad

gunman was killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank.

The Hamas source did not detail the affiliation of those arrested, adding that the rockets fired were not loaded with explosives.

Paleostinian factions have an agreement to coordinate "any response to Israeli aggression," he told AFP.

#1  Is that a first, Palestinians arresting rocket teams?

I didnt know Hamas was into policing, arresting, and jailing.

Another tidbit of interest, "rockets fired were not loaded with explosives."

#2  Hamas does arrest people for it from time to time, mossomo, to keep Israel from more enthusiastically raining punishment down on Hamas sites for not taking care of their reponsibility to keep the peace hudna. Hamas is the government, and like the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank has police as well as the usual terrorist military wing — though originally the personnel were inherited from the PA after the election Hamas won in 2006 or 2007.

Whether those arrested actually dunnit or are just the usual suspects is a different question.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Security forces attack Kurdish protesters, wounding dozens in western Iran: Rights watchdog
[Rudaw] Dozens of protesters were maimed on Sunday as Iranian security forces cracked down on the hundreds gathered to protest against the killing of yet another Kurdish woman at the hands of the authorities in Tehran.

The attack on protesters in Mariwan comes two days after 16 protesters were shot full of holes in the Baluchi area in southeast Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), raising the number of people killed to 304 across the country, including 41 children.

Nasrin Ghaderi, a woman from the city of Mariwan who resided in Tehran, was hit several times in the head during a protest in the capital, sending her into a coma and later passing away in hospital on Saturday night. The family was prevented from burying her in Mariwan, as they had wished to do, and were forced by the intelligence services to have a funeral without anyone present.

The city in the Kurdish area of western Iran (Rojhelat) has seen continuous protests since the death of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini on September 16 at the hands of security forces. Mariwan has also witnessed strike after strike, with protesters chanting "death to Khamenei," a reference to the country’s ultimate decision maker Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
who has dismissed the eight-week long demonstrations as a ploy from the US and Israel.

"Ghaderi family are our close family friends and our neighbor ... the daughter of the family Nasrin Ghaderi was murdered with repeated baton strikes during protest in Tehran," Soran Mansournia an activist muppet whose brother was killed in the 2019 protests in Iran said. "The security forces stole the body on its way to Mariwan and pressured her father Shater Ahmad to say his daughter had a seizure or the security forces would bury the body in an undisclosed location."

State-run news agency IRNA quoted Ghaderi’s father as saying that she had a seizure which was complicated by a recent bout of influenza.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights which monitors violations in the Kurdish areas in west and northwest Iran reported that 35 people were maimed by the security forces. Videos from the scene published by the watchdog showed a large number of riot police in armored vehicles had surrounded the family house of Ghaderi.

Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), another organization monitoring violations in the Kurdish areas said that the security forces used teargas and pellet guns, and that at least ten people were maimed.

The Kurdish areas have been the main engine of the protest movement with at least 61 Kurdish protesters killed including 11 children. More than 4,000 have been detained in the Kurdish areas.

Security forces on Friday carried out yet another massacre in the southeast of the country in the Baluchestan region where 16 protesters were shot full of holes with live ammunition, as depicted in dramatic videos taken by protesters in the town of Khash. Protesters were demanding answers about the September 30 massacre in which at least 92 Baluchi protesters were killed in the city of Zahedan.

Iranian soldier kills 3 policemen and a comrade in southern Iran
[IsraelTimes] Such shootings are rare in Islamic Republic, where military service of up to 24 months is mandatory for men aged 19 and above

A soldier shot to death three policemen and a fellow soldier at a roadside police station in southern Iran on Sunday, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

The violence took place near the town of Bampour, about 1,260 kilometers (780 miles) southeast of the capital Tehran in the restive Sistan and Baluchistan province.

The southeastern province was gripped by unrest on Friday, drawing a lethal response from security forces and an activist group claiming they killed at least 16 people.

It came in the seventh week of anti-government protests sparked by the death in custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was detained after allegedly violating the country’s strict dress code for women.

Tasnim cited a local police commander to report that the soldier opened fire after a dispute with another soldier over personal issues. The soldier was detained immediately. There were no additional details.

Such shootings are rare in Iran. In 2016 a soldier killed himself after shooting to death three of his comrades. Military service of up to 24 months is mandatory for men aged 19 and above in Iran.

Separately on Sunday, Tasnim reported that a “terrorist” was killed during an attack by two assailants on a station staffed by the elite paramilitary Revolutionary Guard in the city of Mahshahr in southwestern Khuzestan province. There were no other details.

Protests embroiling the country that began after Amini’s death first focused on the state-mandated headscarf, or hijab. But they swiftly morphed into one of the biggest challenges to the government since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Protesters chant for overthrowing the clerical rule and the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Security forces, including paramilitary volunteers with the Revolutionary Guard, have violently cracked down on the demonstrations, killing over 300 people, including 41 children, according to the Oslo-based Iran Human Rights.
