Santa Monica, CA tweets photo of Russian jet to promote US Air Force Super Bowl flyover
[Washington Examiner] One city in California mixed up its fighter jets amid the Super Bowl celebrations.

The Twitter account for Santa Monica, California, tweeted a photo of a Russian jet on Sunday in reference to an Air Force flyover.

"Just before 3:30 P.M., the [U.S. Air Force] will flyover #SantaMonica and #Malibu in preparation for the National Anthem performance for #Superbowl at SoFi Stadium," the account tweeted, with the image of a Russian MiG fighter jet attached.

U.S. Stops All Mexican Avocado Imports Over Cartel Threats
[Breitbart] The U.S. government stopped imports of Mexican avocado after cartels threatened an American inspector working in that country.

The suspension came just before Super Bowl Sunday, one of the days in the U.S. with the largest consumption of avocado. Mexico’s Agriculture Secretariat confirmed the suspension of these imports through a prepared statement on Saturday evening.

In the statement, Mexican agriculture officials revealed that one of the entities under the U.S. Department of Agriculture took that measure after one of their inspectors working in Uruapan, Michoacán received threats to his work-issued cell phone. In order to protect crops from pests, the USDA has a long history of sending inspectors to other countries that export produce to the United States.

The import suspension comes at a time when the largest association of avocado farmers in Mexico spent money on an ad campaign that would feature their produce during Superbowl Sunday. It remains unclear how much the import sanction will affect the price and supply of avocado in the U.S.

Avocado is mostly produced in Michoacan and Jalisco, two of the most violent states in Mexico. The region is currently being fought over between Cartel Jalisco New Generation and an alliance of smaller cartels — called United Cartels — which have the support of the Sinaloa Cartel. Avocado farmers in Michoacan have long complained about having to pay protection fees to criminal organizations and that the government does little to improve security in the region.

#5  One threat?

Heard this in the car yesterday listening to National People's Radio. Thought it was the Babylon Bee at first. They specifically said a single text message. They also went on at length about how this would not affect Super Bowl avocado consumption, which makes sense if you think about it for a nanosecond since all avocados eaten during the Super Bowl were shipped and purchased already.

My first thought was false flag op since everything is nowadays. 2nd thought was this is the best excuse since "the dog ate my homework".
Can't come in to work today, boss. Got another death threat text.

Battlefield Update Brief (BUB) - On the Edge of War
[Reuters - 26 Jan 2022] Tensions between Ukraine and Russia have been increasing for months after the Kremlin massed some 100,000 troops near Ukraine's borders.

Western nations, including the United States and Britain, worry that the large build-up of Russian forces along Ukraine’s borders is preparation for an invasion as part of Moscow’s efforts to prevent Ukraine from ever joining the NATO Western security alliance.

Russia has repeatedly denied any plans to invade. However, in 2014 the Russian military seized Ukraine’s southern peninsula of Crimea and gave backing to separatist forces who took control of a swathe of eastern Ukraine.
Nearly three weeks old but informative.

Biden's Popularity is Sinking Like the Titanic
[American Thinker] President Job Biden is beginning his second year in office. Just over a year ago when he was elected, or selected, tears of joy flowed in blue cities. Political experts, like Taylor Swift expressed, "Quiet, cautious elation and relief." ABC News, a major player in the Biden campaign, proclaimed through their own tears of joy, "A new day of hope for America."

Is the rest of America thrilled that Biden is in the White House? Was such optimism due Biden’s election, or was this just a sense of relief that the tweeting orange man was on his way out the door?

Joe Biden was never a force of intellect, statesmanship, or wisdom, during his decades in the U.S. Senate, eight years as vice president, or his first year in the Oval Office. A recent example is how Biden, who now wants a black female on the U.S. Supreme Court, blocked the first black woman nominee to the court, Janice Rogers Brown in 2003, an inconvenient fact the corporate media and Biden’s dwindling supporters choose to gloss over.

Even his predecessor and teammate for eight years, President Barack Obama, famously noted, "Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f**k things up." As we look at the landscape today, Obama’s words are prophetic.

Domestically we have inflation hitting a 40-year high, which along with rising unemployment, is reminding older Americans of a blast from the past called the misery index, a relic of the Jimmy Carter presidency. Our southern border is wide open to anyone and everyone from around the world, along with rising crime, homelessness, and squalor in American cities.

With Money Flowing Into Stocks At A Record Pace, Goldman Does Not See A "Larger Correction" Taking Place
[ZERO] On Friday we observed that something odd was happening in the market: while stocks were tumbling, pushing most tech names into a deep bear market amid the worst turmoil for risk assets in years, inflows into stocks - both institutional and retail - have been soaring, and according to EPFR data compiled by Bank of America, cumulative equity flows YTD in 2021 have hit a record $153bn, exceeding the pace of early-2021 (when the year started with $151bn in inflows, ahead of a record year of more than $1tn inflows).

"How can this be", we asked and answered that the catalyst behind this unprecedented scramble for risk "is that despite falling prices, investors are bailing on other even more impacted securities, and with a record outflows from money markets/cash as well as huge capital flight out of bond funds, this money has to go somewhere, and that "somewhere" is stocks for now, even though if the Fed is indeed set to hike 7 times this year and drain $2+ trillion from its balance sheet, the pain for stocks is only just starting."

Over the weekend, Goldman desk trader Scott Rubner picked up on this peculiar flow dynamic, and roughly around the time that Goldman's chief (retail client facing) equity strategist David Kostin was cutting the bank's year-end S&P price target to 4,900 from 5,100 (while warning that much more downside could be in place if a recession hits), Rubner wrote that "with money flowing into global equities "at extreme levels", this would need to change before a larger correction can take place: I would turn bearish if the money slows or reverses" he said, adding that "portfolio rebalances of this size typically last for the full quarter (Q1 2022)." Rubner also reminds that the "headlines will continue to be robust through March (i.e., advisor quarter-end rebalancing) March 4th NFP, March 10th Feb CPI, March 16th FOMC Meeting, etc."

Here are the key observations from a still bullish Rubner, as the market continues to crack and remains unable sustain even a modest bounce:

#1  I don't understand the S&P price target of 4900-5100

currently the S&P is at about 4400.

A target of 4900 would be about a 10% gain in a year. That is not consistent with the 'not bullish, not bearish' narrative.

#6  All those trillions of printed dollars have to go somewhere. The S&P target price is simply indicating that the stock market will absorb enough to compensate for a 10% inflation rate... which is a conservative estimate, IMO, and in real value the market will go down.
Posted by: Glenmore || 02/14/2022 10:01 Comments || Top||

#7  "Recently printed money" heading into stocks at a record rate. The solution is to print more money and drive up inflation? I don't think so. How about getting rid of the Build Back Broke economy and the corruptocrats who are touting this. Term limits, energy independence, limits on spending in DC and bring back manufacturing to the U.S.. Otherwise, we are headed towards 1929 rapidly.

#8  In days gone by there was a term for this, albeit today we are seeing it on a far grander scale, "pumping". Bring the rubes in and all the pension/investment fund money managed by people whose jobs depend on showing a short term profit. Zero interest rates and commission/fees expenses on both sides of hard assets make the little guy see the markets as the only place to keep up and get ahead. Then, news and advice that doesn't mirror the actual world conditions, and as the rube money flows in, selling incrementally out the backside until the
actual reality bites. Bulls make money and bears make money and pigs get slaughtered... or my favorite, "How do you become a millionaire with Merrill Lynch, start with two million"?

New Zealand Police Play 'Barry Manilow' And 'The Macarena' To Antagonize New Zealand Protesters
[ZERO] The authorities in New Zealand have found a new strategy for warding off unwanted demonstrators who are camping outside the Parliament building: playing "Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits" and the "the Macarena" on repeat to try and ward people off.

Of course, the global protest movement inspired by the Canadian "Freedom Convoy" is vexing governments from the antipodes to Europe, and beyond.

And in a few instances, the demonstrators have responded in kind by playing Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It". Hundreds of demonstrators have been camped out outside Parliament in Wellington since Tuesday. According to the BBC, they adopted the name "Convoy for Freedom" and blocked streets in the city.

Although their numbers dwindled to the dozens by mid-week, they increased again by the time the weekend arrived.

Police haven't been shy about making arrests: on Thursday, police arrested 122 people and charged many with trespassing or obstruction. Yet, still the demonstrators persisted.

The local police haven't stopped at playing music. Other tactics of dispersal have included "turning on sprinklers" on a lawn where protesters had camped out.

But again, protesters retaliated by digging trenches and building makeshift drainpipes to re-route the water.

On Saturday, singer James Blunt responded to a headline about authorities sonic repellant, and joked that his music should be added to the playlist.

Whistleblower Gives Evidence The Pentagon Holds Female Soldiers To Lower Standards
[The Federalist] According to an anonymous whistleblower letter posted by Air Force Times, Pentagon policy makers are promoting "diversity and inclusion" at the expense of high, uncompromised standards in an elite Special Operations Forces command. The letter focuses an unnamed female captain who began training with the Special Tactics Training Squadron (STTS) in 2018, hoping to become the first woman to join a combat controller team (CCT).

The female captain dropped out of physically demanding combat controller course exercises several times, but unlike male trainees with similar difficulties, Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) officials kept extending special concessions to keep her in the program.

The detailed anonymous letter reported 11 examples of unusual concessions that AFSOC extended to retain the female captain, even though she had not met longstanding standards and repeatedly dropped out of essential training events, such as rigorous diving exercises and solo land navigation. Air Force Times, which confirmed details with a second source, obtained performance forms and score charts that appeared to support the whistleblower’s letter, and submitted them for comment to AFSOC Commander Lt. Gen. Jim Slife.

Slife did not refute specific allegations, citing privacy considerations, but he vehemently denied that AFSOC standards had changed: "While the standards remain the same, the norms have not." This is an equivocation, based on a half-truth.

"Norms" did change last year when U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) Commander General Richard Clarke released his Diversity & Inclusion Strategic Plan. The Center for Military Readiness analyzed the SOCOM diversity mandate, noting that 12 times on 20 pages, the document asserted without evidence that "Diversity and inclusion are operational imperatives." These vacuous, unsupported words have triggered turbulence in one of the nation’s most elite fighting forces, and probably more we don’t know about.

#7  This Captain knew her limits, but the brass is too concerned with proving DIE (Diversity Inclusion Equity) dogma to worry about things like putting her in a situation where she would not only get killed due to physical limitations but take her troops with her.

This is sickening, and completely ignores the first job of the military: Win Wars.

Government Corruption
'Da Nang Dick' Blumenthal Bought Robinhood Shares as He Called for Congressal Investigation of Trading
[Free Beacon] Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn.) and his wife bought and sold shares of the stock trading app Robinhood while he called for Congress to investigate a controversial trading practice largely carried out on the platform.

Blumenthal disclosed that he and his wife sold between $1,265,000 and $2,550,000 worth of shares of Robinhood in the last quarter of 2021. At the time, Blumenthal joined a chorus of lawmakers in calling for investigations into Robinhood's role in supporting a speculation frenzy involving shares of GameStop. Blumenthal did not probe the matter even though he was well positioned to do so as the chairman of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection.

Blumenthal's disclosures come amid debate on Capitol Hill over whether lawmakers and their spouses should be banned from trading stocks. Lawmakers from both parties have proposed bills to limit or outright ban stock trades. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), one of the most prolific stock traders in Congress, endorsed a proposal on Wednesday to ban members from trading stocks. Blumenthal has yet to sponsor any of the bills proposed in the Senate.

Robinhood drew the attention of congressional investigators for its role in last year's "meme stock" craze. Speculators used the platform to inflate the share price of GameStop. It drew further criticism for blocking users from closing out their positions in GameStop shares.

[Breitbart] Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson decided to take the field before Super Bowl LVI to fire up the crowd for the game. It did not have its intended effect.

Moments before the Rams and Bengals got set to do battle a cranberry-clad Dwayne Johnson appeared with a microphone and proceeded to let fly with a dozen different cliche big game event opening lines.

#10  NYPost: Gutierrez was taken into custody after cops saw him dumping something into a trash can right before officers stopped him. Officers later recovered the knife used in the stabbings.

Gutierrez’s rap sheet includes federal felony offenses ranging from burglary to battery and possession of a controlled substance, according to court records.

He has also previously been charged with driving while intoxicated.

In 2014, the suspect failed to appear in court for driving on a revoked license, records show. He told the court via a handwritten note that he was in federal custody in another county and was making an effort to better himself while incarcerated.

His federal prison sentence stemmed from a case where he entered a tribal c@sino just outside Albuquerque while armed with a revolver and ammunition.

Records show he was released from federal custody in 2020.

'If we flip Texas, we flip the country': AOC says it's inevitable the Lone Star State will turn blue as she campaigns for two Democrat candidates in the 2022 midterms
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Not quite, Ms Fancy Economics Degree. It’s all about the net flips in both direction — you can’t assume the Democrats will be able to cheat enough to hold all their current districts as well as adding more.
  • Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was in Texas on Saturday to rally for two Democratic candidates in their House races

  • She said if Democrats can flip the Lone Star State blue, then the rest of the country will follow

  • AOC campaigned for Democratic Congressional candidates Jessica Cisneros and Greg Casar on Saturday, who are running in blue districts already

  • Their victories would not change the makeup of their state but would help Democrats keep their razor thin majority in the U.S. House

Economy
USA Consumer Confidence Down Sharply
[FoxBusiness] U.S. consumer confidence plunged to an 11-year low in early February, reflecting heightened concerns among Americans about hotter-than-expected inflation and the skyrocketing price of everyday goods.

The University of Michigan's consumer sentiment index fell to 61.7 in February; down sharply from the January reading of 67.2 and well below economists' forecast for a reading of 67.5.
context; index was near 130 in the 1998-99 boom and the 2018-19 boom
"Sentiment continued its downward descent, reaching its worst level in a decade, falling a stunning 8.2% from last month and 19.7% from last February," Richard Curtin, the survey's chief economist, said in a statement. "The recent declines have been driven by weakening personal financial prospects, largely due to rising inflation, less confidence in the government's economic policies, and the least favorable long term economic outlook in a decade."

Al-Araji: Iraq and UK are working to dry out the terrorist's financial, media, and human resources

Shafaq News/ Iraq's National Security Advisor, Qasem al-Araji, said that Baghdad and London are working dry up the financial, human, and media resources of terrorism.

Al-Araji's remarks came as he received the UK ambassador to Iraq, Mark Bryson-Richardson, in his bureau downtown the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, earlier today, Sunday.

Al-Araji discussed with his guest the latest updates on the political and security situation in the regional and international arenas, particularly the row between Russia and Ukraine, the training of Iraqi armed forces, and the conditions of al-Hol camp in northeast Syria.

"Iraq upholds dialogue as a means to address the issues in the region. It is willing to continue the cooperation with the international community to deter terrorism, whose threat is still substantial," he told the UK diplomat, citing Baghdad and London's efforts to "dry out terrorism's human, financial, and media resources."

For his part, Bryson-Richardson reiterated his country's commitment to supporting Iraq in the battle against the ISIS terror group and providing assistance and training to the Iraqi armed forces.

"The Israel Police will continue to act with determination and with zero tolerance against violence of any kind, violation of public order, and illegal attempts to harm coppers or civilians," the statement adds.

The nationality of the suspects was was not immediately clear.

Right-wing activists plan a protest in the flashpoint neighborhood later this evening.

Raqqa countryside bombed by Turkey

AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Turkish forces and the affiliated opposition factions bombed the countryside of Tel-Abyad, Ain Issa, and the M4 motorway, north of Raqqa, with missiles and heavy weapons.

Ten villages in the countryside of Tel-Abyad and Ain Issa have been bombed since 1:00 p.m by the Turkish forces and opposition factions,” North Press reported a source from SDF.

According to the source, the villages of zanoubia Sawwan, Um Hwesh, Hoshan, Mu’allaq, Kor Hassan, Khirbat Baqara, Hemar, Nu’et and the M4 motorway, were hit with heavy weapons.

Three shells fell north of the Abu Surra junction, next to a Syrian government military point, west of the town of Ain Issa, the source said.

“Dozens of shells fell on those villages, which are only a few kilometers away from the town of Ain Issa,” local residents said.

The bombing was launched from two Turkish bases in the villages of Salb Qur’an and Dinai, a military source told North Press.

The bombing came in tandem with the flight of Turkish reconnaissance planes over Ain Issa town and its countryside.

A person was killed in the bombing on the M4 motorway. It also caused material damage to the property of the residents of those villages mentioned.

The town of Ain Issa and other areas in north Syria are continuously bombed by the Turkish forces and the opposition factions.

APU shelled a village in the south of the DPR from mortars
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] Mortar fire on the village of Kominternovo in the south of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) was opened by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported on February 13 by the Donetsk News Agency with reference to the DPR representative office in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire Regime (JCCC).

The report notes that the Ukrainian security forces fired from the Ukrainian-controlled settlement of Talakovka. It is specified that in total, representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired three mines with a caliber of 120mm.

Data on the victims and injured are not reported.

As REGNUM reported , on February 13, the official representative of the defense department of the LPR , Ivan Filiponenko , told reporters that the readiness of the paratroopers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to be thrown into the rear of the defense of the People's Militia of the Luhansk People's Republic is being checked by the commander of the so-called Joint Forces Operation ("OOS") Alexander Pavlyuk.

The Council of the Duma will discuss the fate of the appeal to Putin on the recognition of the LNR and the DNR

[REGNUM] Today, February 14, the Council of the Duma will discuss the draft appeal of the State Duma of the Russian Federation to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the recognition of the LNR and the DNR, reports news agency REGNUM .

Recognition will create grounds for guaranteeing the security and protection of their peoples from external threats and implementing a policy of genocide against the inhabitants of the republics, as well as for strengthening international peace and regional stability in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations (UN) and will initiate the process international recognition of both states, the document notes.

The draft appeal was submitted by deputies from the Communist Party headed by Gennady Zyuganov in January, after which consultations were held with the factions. The SRZP tends to support the communists, and before recognition, leader Sergei Mironov offered to provide military assistance to cool the ardor of provocateurs , LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky proposed to annex Ukraine to Russia , "New people" plan to make a decision during the discussion at the plenary session. "United Russia" believes that the LPR and the DPR need, first of all, military assistance against the backdrop of the West's whipping up hysteria about the alleged "aggression" of Russia. The head of the faction Vladimir Vasiliev also asks to take all measures to ensure the safety of citizens..

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that the Duma Council will discuss two proposals: consider a draft resolution on an appeal to the President of Russia on the need to recognize the DPR and LPR immediately, or send the document first to the Russian Foreign Ministry and other government agencies to receive feedback, and then consider it taking into account what was said positions.

The discussion promises to be serious, but the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, due to the fact that he is being treated at the Central Clinical Hospital, will not be able to take part in discussing the fate of the document.

Ukraine receives anti-aircraft missiles from Lithuania
[JPost] Ukraine on Sunday received a consignment of Stinger anti-aircraft missile systems and ammunition by plane from Lithuania, the defense ministry in Kyiv said.

Earlier on Sunday two other planes delivered about 180 tonnes of ammunition from the United States, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said. Ukraine had so far received almost 1,500 tonnes of ammunition delivered on 17 flights, he said on Twitter.

Military officials say Ukraine has significantly strengthened its armed forces with the help of allies, equipping the army, in particular, with American and British anti-tank systems and Turkish drones.

The United States and allies say Russia could invade Ukraine at any moment. Russia, which has more than 100,000 troops massed near Ukraine, denies having any such plan.

Shelling escalates between government and opposition in Syria’s northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the de-escalation zones in northwest Syria witnessed military escalation and exchange of shelling between the Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed opposition factions.

The opposition factions’ sites in the towns of Kansafra, al-Bara, Sufuhn, al-Fatira, Benin and Harsh Benin in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, were hit with artillery and missiles by the government forces, North Press reported military sources in the opposition.

The bombing resulted in the death of a person in the town of Kansafra, according to the same sources.

The opposition factions’ sites near the towns of San and Madelia, east of Idlib, the town al-Enkawi, west of Hama, were also bombed by the government forces, the sources added.

Jordanian authorities found bodies of two smugglers with drugs

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces announced yesterday finding the bodies of two smugglers after thwarting an infiltration attempt by individuals and vehicles coming from Syria on Friday.

The Jordanian forces have been implementing intensive searching and inspections along the border strip with Syria where the smugglers’ bodies were found with amounts of narcotics and they were referred to the competent authorities, a military source of the armed forces told media outlets.

On Sunday, the Jordanian army announced confiscating large quantities of drugs, military ammunition and vehicles prepared for smuggling from Syrian border.

The security forces confiscated on Friday amounts of 9,343,000 pills of Captagon, 38,900 tramadol pills, 7,096 handful of cannabis (Hashish), 199 BKCs, 63 Kalashnikov weapons and two vehicles.

In late January, the Jordanian army declared it killed 27 drug smugglers and wounded others to foil attempts of smuggling large quantity of narcotic substances coming from Syria.

In January, Amman informed Damascus of the need to combat smuggling.

In September, al-Hunaiti received Syrian Minister of Defense Ali Ayoub in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

The two parties discussed coordination to ensure the security of the common borders between the two countries, the situation in southern Syria, combating terrorism, and joint efforts to confront cross-border smuggling.

Jordan forces thwarted a smuggling operation of over 15 million of Captagon pills in 2021 and 5,5 million in the first two weeks of 2022.

Combing operations against ISIS continue in Hasakah

TEL-TAMR, Syria (North Press) – The SDF combing operations in search of ISIS militants are continuing. There is no specific timetable for ending the security operations, Hussein Salmo, commander of the Military Council of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Jazira region, said on Sunday.

Since last month, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have started extensive combing campaigns in the city of Hasakah and its countryside, following the attack by ISIS militants on al-Sina’a prison, which houses about five thousand members of ISIS, in Hasakah’s Ghweran neighborhood, northeast Syria.

Extensive combing operations within the area have been conducted by the security forces, in search of ISIS members whom the SDF believes participated in the attack on the prison, and a number of them may have escaped from prison during the attack.

“The combing operations are carried out to maintain the security and stability of the region. These operations include the neighborhoods of Hasakah city and its countryside, which extends to the town of Tel-Tamr in the north,” Salmo said.

The commander of the Military Council said that “during the 20-day combing operations, many ISIS mercenaries and its sleeper cells were arrested and many weapons and explosive materials they had were seized.”

“So far, the results of the combing operations are positive,” he added.

Many ISIS sleeper cells, who were on the wanted list of SDF for years and were hiding in the area, were arrested, Salmo said.

“The combing operations are continuing with no specific timetable to finish,” the commander of the Military Council stressed.

Iraq sentences police officer, informant to death over deadly operation
[Rudaw] An Iraqi court sentenced to death on Sunday a police officer and an informant over a deadly operation in December that left 20 people from the same family dead.

The two men can appeal the verdict, handed down by the criminal court in the central province of Babylon, a judiciary source told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
Security forces in December opened fire on a house in the village of al-Rashayed in Babylon, killing 20 people including women and kiddies, under the pretext of pursuing two suspected terrorists.

But it was later revealed that a family dispute had motivated an informant to give "false intelligence" to police on the presence of "two terrorists" in the house, according to a judiciary statement issued in January.

"The Babylon criminal court has issued a death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
by hanging for two of the defendants," the Supreme Judicial Council said, quoted by state news agency INA.

"The other defendants will be tried later," it added.

In addition to the informant, an intelligence officer from the interior ministry, who led the operation, was also condemned to death, the judicial source told AFP.

Eighteen others, including both civilians and security forces, who participated in the operation await sentencing, the source added.

Iraq has the fourth highest rate of executions in the world, according to Amnesia Amnesty International, which has recorded that more than 50 people were executed in the country in 2020, including many who were accused of belonging to the Islamic State

Nigerian Troops Foil ISWAP Terrorists’ Attacks, Rescue Abducted Passengers In Borno

Troops of the Nigerian military deployed for Operation 'Hadin Kai' on Saturday foiled ambush attacks on some motorists and commuters in the Bama axis of the North-East, PRNigeria reports.

The attacks, which occurred on two highways in Borno State, were staged by fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).

It was learnt that the terrorists had first set up multiple checkpoints at Banki Junction on Saturday to aid the abduction of civilians in the Bama local government area of the state.

PRNigeria learnt from a top military intelligence commander that mobile troops of 151 Task Force Battalion, on patrol within the general area, foiled the insurgents' operation immediately after responding to a distress call.

According to the commander, the ISWAP fighters who had held some civilians captive on the road, fled on sighting approaching troops.

The terrorists left their victims behind, he said.

He added that the rear screen of a commercial vehicle was damaged by gunshots, but there was no loss of life.

Similarly, troops of 152 Battalion, on a separate patrol along Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel Road on Saturday, responded to a distress call about another ISWAP attack on motorists.

Meanwhile, in another development, seven Nigerian soldiers survived bomb attacks when they ran into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), planted by ISWAP terrorists along Maiduguri-Damboa Road.

An intelligence source said the troops were on a long-range patrol to protect commuters when the incident occurred.

"The soldiers from the 134 Special Forces Battalion 7 Division Garrison Maiduguri were escorting commuters when their vehicle stepped on the IED planted along the route Delwa-Bulabulin, Damboa Local Government Area on Saturday, February 12, 2022.

"No fatality was recorded during the incident but 7 soldiers sustained injuries and were evacuated to Maiduguri for prompt medical attention."

US discusses ‘potential’ resettlement with Afghans in UAE
[IsraelTimes] US officials in the United Arab Emirates meet with Afghans after a protest in Abu Dhabi this week and discuss their "potential" transfer to the United States, according to an embassy statement.

The UAE was one of several Arab Gulf countries that assisted with the evacuation of Afghans fleeing the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
after the group seized power in August last year following a US military withdrawal.

Videos circulating on social media this week showed Afghan men protesting in the Emirates Humanitarian City in the capital Abu Dhabi, where many who were evacuated to the UAE now live.

The US embassy says that it is aware of the "peaceful demonstration" to express "concerns about future resettlement and processing for onward travel."

US officials met some of the Afghans and discussed their "processing for potential entry in the United States," according to a statement sent to AFP.

"We continue to conduct the screening and vetting of vulnerable Afghans prior to their arrival in the United States, consistent with the dual goals of protecting national security and providing protection for vulnerable Afghans," it adds.

The Taliban takeover of Afghanistan sparked a chaotic exit for the Americans and their allies after 20 years in the country, and an exodus of Afghans fearing a return to the brutal regime of 1996 to 2001 when the group was first in power.

Follow the development of events in the broadcast: “The West announced the date of Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine — all the news”

Thus, she commented on the statements of US national security adviser Jake Sullivan about “Moscow creating a pretext” for an “attack” on Ukraine.

“American politicians have lied, are lying and will continue to lie, creating pretexts to attack civilians around the world. Everyone knows this. I would ask the American political establishment not to take another sin on the soul, but I'm not sure that they have it, ”she wrote in the telegram channel.
Zakharova recalled the speech of US Secretary of State Colin Powell in the UN Security Council on February 5, 2003, when he announced the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

As REGNUM reported , Western countries accuse Russia of alleged plans to escalate the situation around Ukraine. In Russia, this is categorically denied.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia does not create any pretexts for a conflict situation around Ukraine.

SDF arrests alleged ISIS financier in Raqqa
[Rudaw] The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Sunday announced that they had arrested a financier in the former Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) capital of Raqqa, who confessed to funding the terrorist organization in a video.

The arrestee, named Mohammed Ahmed Kurz, hails from the city of al-Bab in northern Syria. He says he was coerced under threat to supply ISIS with funds, usually sent from nearby The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
and the rebel-held Syrian province of Idlib.

"I started working with Ibrahim [Kurz's associate] in Raqqa in 2021. He tasked me with receiving cheques from Idlib and Turkey and distributing them to ISIS cells in al-Hol camp," said Kurz.

Around 56,000 people live in the notorious al-Hol camp in Hasaka, northeast Syria (Rojava), the majority of whom are women and kiddies accused of being affiliated with ISIS.

He mentioned that Ibrahim would smuggle explosives from the aforementioned areas and use them to threaten large merchants in Raqqa to supply ISIS for money.

"Ibrahim had planted a bomb under the building in which I resided, and this was one of the bombs he threatened merchants with to fund ISIS," he added.

However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
the SDF claims that Kurz himself led a blackmailing ring in Raqqa, forcing people to finance ISIS cells. The Kurdish-led force says that Kurz was arrested as he received an bomb that was to be detonated in front of a shop in the city.

SDF commander warns of growing ISIS threat

Shafaq News / Mazloum Abdi, who heads the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, warned that ISIS fighters are still very much present in the wake of a deadly attack by the militants on a Syrian prison last month. That attack killed 121 fighters from the Syrian Kurdish-led force, he added.

"We are surrounded by the Islamic State," Abdi said in a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press on Thursday night. "We have said this many times. If we don't strive to fight ISIS now, they will spread again."

A tenuous calm has prevailed in the region since ISIS' spectacular Jan. 20 attack on Gweiran Prison, or al-Sinaa — a Kurdish-run facility in Syria's northeast where over 3,000 ISIS militants and young boys, mainly sons of ISIS fighters, were held.

The attack on the prison led to 10 days of fighting between U.S.-backed Syrian Kurdish fighters and ISIS militants that left nearly 500 dead on both sides until the SDF brought the situation under control eventually.

Abdi said immediate security measures were taken to contain ISIS sleeper cells after the assault: faulty detention centers prone to similar attacks have been emptied, security sweeps are ongoing and curfews limit night-time movements.

But, the threat remains, he warned.

The SDF assisted in the U.S. operation that killed ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Qurayshi in the northwestern Idlib region last week by facilitating passage and logistics for the U.S., but did not participate with fighters on the ground.

"We provided safety and security for personnel who went in, that's all I can say," he said.

While ISIS morale may have taken a hit with al-Qurayshi's death, Abdi said he did not believe it would lead to the group's decline.

He said he shared blame for the prison attack — the biggest and bloodiest since ISIS lost the last sliver of territory it held in Syria in 2019, marking the end of its self-declared "caliphate" over large parts of Syria and Iraq.

"We didn't execute our responsibilities well," Abdi says.

His fighters last year twice got intelligence that ISIS sleeper cells were planning to attack the prison, located in Hassakeh province, to free their comrades inside. One attack was even thwarted.

"There was intelligence before that they wanted to attack, and we took procedures, but then we failed," he said.

But he also blamed the international community, which he says should assume responsibility for the thousands of foreign ISIS fighters held in prisons and camps overseen by the Syrian Kurdish-led forces.

Abdo said searches are now underway in 27 detention facilities housing ISIS detainees to identify security weaknesses. Three prisons have been emptied, their inmates scattered to different facilities.

Government Corruption
The Surveillance and Political Spying Operations Highlighted by John Durham are the Tip of the Iceberg
[The Last Refuge] Against the latest court filings by John Durham, highlighting the tip of the political surveillance iceberg, I have been asked to re-post the deep dive into the totality of the scale of the iceberg. I will add some of the latest information into the outline to show how it all connects.

Barack Obama and Eric Holder did not create a weaponized DOJ and FBI; instead, what they did was take the preexisting system and retool it, so the weapons only targeted one side of the political continuum.

Together they recalibrated the domestic surveillance capabilities, the internal spying systems, so that only their political opposition would be targeted. This point is where many people understandably get confused.

In the era shortly after 9/11, the DC national security apparatus was constructed to preserve continuity of government and simultaneously view all Americans as potential threats. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) were created specifically for this purpose.

What Barack Obama and Eric Holder did with that new construct was refine the internal targeting mechanisms so that only their ideological opposition became the target of the new national security system. This is a very important nuance to understand as you dig deeper into this research outline.

Washington DC created the modern national security apparatus immediately and hurriedly after 9/11/01. DHS came along in 2002 and within the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 the ODNI was formed. When Barack Obama and Eric Holder arrived a few years later, those newly formed institutions were viewed as opportunities to create a very specific national security apparatus that would focus almost exclusively against their political opposition.

The preexisting Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Dept of Justice (DOJ) were then repurposed to become two of the four pillars of the domestic national security apparatus. However, this new construct would have a targeting mechanism based on political ideology. The DHS, ODNI, DOJ and FBI became the four pillars of this new institution. Atop these pillars is where you will find the Fourth Branch of Government.

#2  Spying on Trump is one thing, and bad enough, but if they had people placed such that they had access inside the Trump computers they could even have planted 'evidence' of improper conduct.

#4  Wow! 66% of Dems think Hilda should be investigated. They probably mean investigations like the previous phony rigged investigations where Hilda and others were exonnerated. On the other hand, maybe there are some Dems left who are fed up with the corruption, rigging and wholesale sell out of our country to our enemies.

#5  It all sounds exciting, but I'm going out on a stout limb and predict that nothing will come of this. Too many important people (hah!) would be embarrassed and inconvenienced if any of this actually goes to trial. *pushes his chips on "Lack of Standing"*

#8  #4: they are not 'democrat' they are 'left'. I grew up in mass. in the 50's and all my family were democrats. None of them acted like this. They call themselves democrats for political coverage. they are seditionists not democrats.

#9  Many family and friends have have voted Dem. Most are good well-intentioned people. The problem is that the Deepstate is made up of Dems, Rinos and some independents. Somewhere in time, things changed. As things changed, freedom got eroded.

#10  Local state rep primary between an outsider and an insider (both new to our district due to re-districting). Insiders run the party, so they canceled the forum between candidates because of 'too much covid' but then rescheduled at the last minute, so only their candidate could appear. (Reminds me of a lawsuit I had to file some years ago after an out-of-state car wreck - the other party's lawyer's office was next door to the courthouse, and he would get a last minute continuance if we showed up (from 1200 miles away), and would have won if we failed to appear.) Lawfare in action.

Situation on line of contact remains tense – NM DPR
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[NewsFrontInfo] In the Mariupol direction, militants of the 36th brigade from positions in the area of the settlement. Lomakino was fired at Kominternovo, firing four RPG grenades.

In violation of the third paragraph of additional measures, the placement of two armored personnel carriers-70 from the 36th military unit was revealed on the territory of a private household in the settlement.

The Ukrainian side continues to block the work of the OSCE UAV. Thus, in order to prevent the observers of the mission from fixing the placement of prohibited weapons of the 95th brigade, for electronic jamming of control and navigation channels during the flights of the OSCE SMM UAV in the areas of the settlemen, Leninskoe and Novgorodskoe, the enemy used the Bukovel-AD EW station from the mobile group of the 502nd separate EW battalion.

In addition, the militants of the 54th brigade fired at the drone of the OSCE mission from positions in the area of the settlement. Krasnogorovka, during the observation flight.

It should be noted that the shelling was carried out purposefully, since the Ukrainian militants were notified in advance about the time and place of the launch of the drone.

Also, despite the ban on the operation of any aircraft, prescribed in the Complex of Additional Measures to Strengthen the Ceasefire, the Armed Forces of Ukraine used 53 brigades to conduct reconnaissance of UAVs in the area of responsibility in the settlement. Bogdanovka.

All facts are confirmed by the OSCE SMM Report 33 dated 02/12/2022.
We continue to receive information about incidents in formations and parts of the JFO.

So, in the area of N. p. Starognatovka, the driver of the URAL car transported the personnel of the 24th Aidar battalion in the amount of five militants to the hospital in Mariupol.

While driving on the road in the area of N. p. Volnovakha, a truck driver hit a concrete barrier. As a result of a traffic accident, four militants received various bruises and injuries, the fifth, private Meranchuk, was taken to a medical facility in an unconscious state.

Against the backdrop of the situation being aggravated by the Ukrainian authorities, among the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the JFO zone, we note a drop in the moral and psychological state to a critical level and an increase in those who do not want to continue serving in the forefront.

So, over the past week, militants of the 25th brigade sent 34 reports to the commander of the Kurash brigade about being transferred to a permanent deployment center and other military units located in the depths of the country.

Earlier, we have repeatedly noted the lack of desire among the Ukrainian military to serve in the JFO zone. In connection with the active preparation of the JFO formations for the beginning of the aggression, there are fewer and fewer "defenders" of Ukraine.
