"A photo of Brosmer appeared in the Sears & Roebuck catalog when she was 13 years old": nothing unseemly. It was to be the beginning of a long career in modelling. She married Joe Weidner after his divorce, a Polish Jewish immigrant who made a career of selling body building equipment and nutrition supplements.
[IsraelTimes] Three Hebron men arrested near West Bank town of al-Auja in latest gun-running operation on Jordanian border.
Israeli security forces arrested three Paleostinian men near the West Bank city of Jericho on Wednesday suspected of smuggling guns from Jordan, confiscating several handguns in the process.
According to Israel Police and the Israel Defense Forces, the two Hebron-area residents in their 30s were caught near the Paleostinian town of al-Auja and found to be in possession of 10 handguns.
Police said they suspected the two men were headed to Israel with the weapons. Law enforcement officials have previously indicated that guns smuggled in from Jordan are often sold to Arab Israelis, for both criminal and terrorist purposes.
The value of the handguns seized on Wednesday was estimated at some NIS 250,000 ($74,000), police officials said.
The three Paleostinian men were to be brought before a Beersheba court later on Wednesday for an extension of their remand.
The military and police have stepped up efforts to halt smuggling attempts along the Jordanian border in recent months, but officials have admitted that success has been limited thus far.
Unlike Israel’s other frontiers — with Egypt, Lebanon Hezbollahstan ...a formerly French, now an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. ... and Syria — its border with Jordan is largely open, often without significant fencing, and is relatively unguarded, making it an easy channel for large-scale smuggling.
On Monday, 20 firearms apparently smuggled over the Jordanian border were seized in southern Israel. Two Paleostinians from Bethlehem were arrested.
[IsraelTimes] A Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, delegation lands in Moscow to meet with officials in the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The delegation is made up of Hamas officials based outside of Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... Hamas has seen its ties with Russia improve in recent years. Last month, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh ...became Prime Minister of Gaza after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank... held a rare phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

a rare phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Ah, to be a fly on that metaphorical wall! I'm guessing the topic was how support for Hamas was contingent on them not doing anything overly stupid vs Israel.
You know, we could shut this down immediately by offering NATO membership to Hamas.
At least three people have been killed by the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... of West Africa province in Kautikari ward of Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
The bully boyz struck on Tuesday.
The attack occurred almost the same time as the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres ...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years... , was visiting Borno State for an on-the-spot assessment of the level of damage done by the Boko Haram ...Nigeerian Islamist group, formerly paying homage to al-Qaeda, then, when the money ran out, to the Islamic State, and headed by nutcase Abu Bakr Shekau. Once he exploded in a gunfight with ISWAP, many in the group surrendered to the govt and others went with their new overlords. The remainder are a shell of their former selves, stmbling glassy-eyed and lonely through the Sambisa Forest and the soothing waters of Lake Chad, asking themselves What is truth?, or maybe just I wonder what's for dinner? I hope it's not rhinocerous again! ... insurgency.
A villager said the attack started around 6pm and it got all the villagers deserting for safety in the nearby Sambisa Forest where the bully boyz camped.
"The attack started at 6:20pm this evening (Tuesday). They came on their cycle of violences and started to shoot randomly from all angles.
"The villagers ran to the bush for safety but the bush is Sambisa forest and that is where the Boko Haram Death Eaters are living. That village has been attacked more than ten times this year alone," Adamson, a handicapped from Chibok said.
"There is no other village around there except the Sambisa Forest and the people living there have never left their homes despite the attacks.
"According to what I was told by a relative who is presently hiding in the bush, the bully boyz shot one man dead in his car and then set the car ablaze with the dead body inside the vehicle.
"They also killed two others while also burning down several houses. But we cannot determine the level of damage or destruction now until in the morning when they are all back in their villages," Adamson said.
The UN Chief who visited Gubio camp immediately when he arrived in Maiduguri told Zulum that he was happy with the condition he met the IDPs and pledged to offer all necessary assistance to ensure the safe return of IDPs to their ancestral homes in line with the state government’s resettlement plan.

[CNBC] The Federal Reserve increased its benchmark interest rate by half a percentage point, in line with market expectations.
In addition, the central bank outlined a program in which it eventually will reduce its bond holdings by $95 billion a month.
The rate move is the largest since 2000 and is in response to burgeoning inflation pressures.
Fed Chairman Jerome Powell underlined the commitment to bringing inflation down but indicated that raising rates by 75 basis points at a time "is not something the committee is actively considering." and as a bonus, oil (WTI) was back over $105/barrel today

A dirty secret is that the Fd knows that inflation is the key to using cheap money to pay off the long term debt from years ago. In relative constant value terms, its a technique to kick the can down the road until the whole fiat money scam finally fails and people see its just paper (or used to be).
That grim reckoning will likely be coincidental with the new episode of the Dark Ages, perhaps during the middle of the new Mini-Ice Age. Happy Sinko da Mayo optimists and sandwich lovers!

The Fed is WAY behind the curve. They seem intent on repeating the errors of Arthur Burns and William Miller (Fed chairmen of the early and mid 1970s) who tried half-hearted measures to fight inflation. And who failed dismally, finally paving the way for the medicine Paul Volcker gave us.
The longer that the Fed (and the executive branch) delay a serious fight against inflation, the harsher the remedy will be.

"This sends another important signal to all perpetrators of the Kremlin’s war: We know who you are, and you will be held accountable," von der Leyen said.

Armed festivities broke out yesterday between two Ottoman Turkish-backed armed factions in the Ottoman Turkish-controlled city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeast Syria, which resulted in the killing of a civilian.
Since October 2019, Ottoman Turkish military along with Syrian opposition armed factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA), have occupied the city of Sere Kaniye and its countryside in north of Hasakah, and the city of Tel Abyad and its countryside in north of Raqqa, northern Syria, following a military operation called "Peace Spring".
The two factions of Ahrar al-Sharqiya and Military Police clashed in the village of Mabroukah in Sere Kaniye countryside on the background of a dispute on smuggling, a local source told North Press.
In July 2021, the US Department of Treasury sanctioned the Ottoman Turkish-backed Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction "for violations of the rights of civilians and systematic assault on the Syrian Kurds."
The festivities lasted for about an hour, which led a civilian called Thamer Tariha from al-Shaitat clan, to lose his life.

Police Command has confirmed that there was a kaboom at a flow station in the oil-producing community of Izombe in the Oguta Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the incident, the Command’s spokesperson, Mike Abattam said it occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.
Abattam said the earth-shattering kaboom occurred at a facility operated by Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Limited.
He explained that the Commissioner of Police in Imo immediately drafted the command’s anti-bomb unit, as well as some operatives of the command to the area to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
"It happened, there was a kaboom this morning at the facility but the commissioner has deployed our men to the site," NAN quoted him as saying.
An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, however, said two persons died in the earth-shattering kaboom.
He said that the two middle-aged men were the carriers of the bomb, which went kaboom! and killed them while they were trying to find their way into the flow station through the entrance.
[Naharnet] Belarus, a Moscow ally that shares a border with Ukraine, launched "surprise" military maneuvers on Wednesday, to test the reactive capacity of its army, its defense ministry said.
Belarus military units were testing their capacity to "go on the alert, move to predetermined zones and undertake combat training," the ministry said in a statement.
"The aim is to evaluate the readiness and ability of troops to react rapidly to a possible crisis," it continued, describing the maneuvers as a "surprise" exercise.
It published photos of columns of vehicles, including tanks, moving along roads.
The exercise will be closely watched by Kyiv, which has repeatedly accused Belarus of planning to send troops into Ukraine to help Russia's military operation against its pro-Western neighbor.
Belarus has been ruled with an iron fist by strongman Alexander Lukashenko, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin ...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances... , for nearly 30 years. The country serves as an air and logistics base for Moscow.
Nevertheless, not all Belarusians are in favor of participation, however indirect, in the current conflict and there have been acts of sabotage in recent months and several suspects have been arrested.
In 2020, Belarus was rocked by protests over the allegedly fraudulent re-election of Lukashenko, who ordered a ferocious crackdown on the dissent.

[BREITBART] All 22 candidates in Ohio and Indiana endorsed by former President Donald J. Trump completed a clean sweep of Tuesday’s primaries, indicating the strength of a Trump endorsement is as mighty as it has ever been.
Former White House political director Brian Jack exclusively tells Breitbart News:
What we saw in Texas earlier this year was confirmed yet again tonight: President Trump’s endorsement is the most important endorsement in politics. His endorsed candidates are a combined 55-0 in 2022 primaries, a continuation of the historic endorsement streak of success that started during his time at The White House.
Populist candidate J.D. Vance’s win in the crowded Ohio Senate primary is welcome news to other Trump-endorsed candidates and is a potential harbinger of things to come in upcoming races in other states. Making Vance’s victory all the more impressive was his ability to stave off the crowded senate field with three other candidates who sought Trump’s endorsement, in addition to being targeted by the Republican establishment and donor class. Vance, who authored the best-selling book Hillbilly Elegy, received Trump’s endorsement on April 15 and enjoyed a substantial boost in the polls following the 45th President’s nod. Trump’s team tells Breitbart News that Vance was polling around ten percent in fifth place before Trump’s backing. He took home 32 percent of the vote Tuesday.

[GEOTV] Pakistain has dropped further on the list of countries in terms of protection of journalists in a report by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) released on the World Press Freedom Day.
According to the RSF report, Pakistain has fallen by 12 places to 157 out of 180 countries. Last year, Pakistain was ranked 145 on the list.
Expressing his concern on the worsening situation, Council of Pakistain Newspaper Editors (CPNE) President Kazim Khan said that one can disagree with the editorial policy, however, no one can impose their decision on an institution.
Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... Press Club President Fazil Jamili said that freedom of expression will be protected by putting personal interests above everything.
World Press Freedom Day is celebrated every year on May 3 to highlight the fundamental principles of press freedom and present the current state of journalism to the world.
This day is also celebrated to show solidarity and pay tribute to the journalists who were killed, injured or affected while performing their duties.

#4 I'm surprised the Russians would permit a UN agency make this announcement.
The allegations have to do with Bucha and Irpin, near where the initial airborne landings at Gostomel Airfield took place, which are in the same oblast as Kiev.

"Get educated." Right out of the gate. It's almost as if the troll handbook isn't alphabetized. (Then again, I'm not up to speed on the Russian or Ukrainian alphabets.)

Russia is being shown to the entire earth and it's own deluded people that Russia is a big corrupt nothing as long as the people tolerate thieves and liars( including the ROC leadership who are also filthy wealthy by playing ball with Putin) ruling their nation.
Here is a good Russian in action, hopefully about 100 million more of these come out of the woodwork soon. Bandanov and other Russian influencer agents won't be pleased and that's intrinsic good.

Judging from the comments we get from Russian and Ukrainian trolls, I get the impression they deserve each other.

Maybe it's me, but "American love Russia" is the wording I'd expect from someone for whom English is their second language and their first is from the Slavic family.
Could just be a typo, of course. I doubt he proof-read in the midst of his spittle-flecked rage.

Boy raping Muslims fighting with the Russians so no surprise there.
The rape and atrocity charges being leveled at the moment at the Russian military are alleged to have happened in and around Gostomel Airport, which is near Kiev.
The "boy raping Moslems" you are speaking of, Chechen president Ramzen Kadyrov and his bunch, are/were in Mariupol, which is almost 800 kms from Kiev, as the crow drives.
Don't get confused. Everyone notices Kadyrov and his group from Chechnya because Kadyrov is such a loudmouth prick, Putin prolly let him partake in the room clearing festivities at Mariupol so he can be rid of him. Kadyrov is there so he can mug for the cameras just like every other socialist media grifter.
Plenty of Moslems fight for the Ukrainian side as well, but I doubt their crimes will be documented by Ukraine and its western sponsors.

Plenty of Moslems fight for the Ukrainian side as well, but I doubt their crimes will be documented by Ukraine and its western sponsors.
A group of Chechen volunteers are believed to be fighting for the Ukr side in the Zaporizhzhia area.
This conflict is a media war as well as a war war, false reports and false flags are tools of the trade. I would be especially suspicious of any event that was foreshadowed by an announcement that "Side X is planning to commit atrocity Y".
[BREITBART] The Walt Disney Co. has lost nearly $63 billion in market capitalization since it decided in March to embrace radical LGBTQ activism and declare war on Florida by opposing the state’s Parental Rights in Education law.
Shares of Disney have plummeted 23.5 percent since the start of March, falling from $145.70. Market cap is down $62.6 billion, from $265.3 to $202.7 billion.
For the past 12 months, Disney has seen its stock drop more than 30 percent, making it the worst performing stock on the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
Disney’s free fall comes as the company has embraced woke, far-left politics, specifically the exposure of young children to radical LGBTQ ideology. In so doing, the entertainment giant has alienated millions of customers and picked a fight with Florida GOP leaders.

...In any other situation, and with any other company, some folks in the E-suite would be looking for new opportunities. If you think about it, however, Disney is kinda stuck - to do the things they need to do to recover would be to admit error, and The Mouse is never wrong.

Once upon a time (see what I did there) breaking into the creative ranks was difficult. You had to have talent, get breaks and work hard. As the talent contingent leaned certain ways politically and sexually, they decided that they were in the driver seat, and the C-suite people let themselves be convinced that was so.
Maybe there would be no pretty entertainments without legions of ghey people. Will we find out whether that is so? Maybe, if they insist on poisoning the table at which they dine.

Businesses need to follow a very operational simple rule.
Provide a service and/or product equally, and stay the hell out and away from Social / Racial Politics. Because statistically, it will always piss-off over 50% of your customers.
So until the Disney Gates are locked, and its investors are in US Bankruptcy court, they have not lost enough.

Remember the old Disney movies? Sleeping Beauty, Dumbo, Old Yeller, the Love Bug, Flubber, Pollyanna. They were just family friendly entertainment and Disney built an empire with them. Then Walt Disney died and the board of directors sold out to China. They bought Marvel and George Stephanopoulos. They bought Star Wars because they could never produce anything like it. They produced Frozen. We are watching that empire decay. Good riddance.

[REGNUM] The mask regime introduced due to COVID-19 has been canceled in the Czech Republic since May 5, ČTK reports on May 4.
The corresponding decision was made by the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic. The authorities of the country believe that it is high time to cancel the obligation to wear medical masks, the epidemiological situation allows this.
Recall that the anti-COVID measures were gradually softened in the Czech Republic. Until now, the mask regime has been maintained only for medical institutions and welfare organizations.
[NYPOST] The Delaware computer repairman who blew the whistle on Hunter Biden ...son of President Joe: cashiered from the Navy, a crackhead, wheeler dealer, leg humper, horn dog, and general all around ne'er do well. We're supposed to feel sorry for him... ’s laptop — filed a multi-million-dollar defamation suit Tuesday against Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff ...Showboating U.S. Representative for California's 28th congressional district since 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, Schiff has served in Congress since 2001. He currently serves as the chairman of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. In a manner reminiscent of Joe McCarthy, on March 22, 2017, in a interview with Chuck Todd on MSNBC Schiff claimed there was “more than circumstantial evidence now” that Donald Trump's campaign colluded with Russia." Todd followed up by asking if he had seen direct evidence of collusion and Schiff responded that there was "evidence that is not circumstantial and is very much worthy of investigation"... , CNN ...the organization formerly known as the Cable News Network. Now who knows what it might stand for... , The Daily Beast and Politico, saying they falsely accused him of peddling Russian disinformation.
The former shop owner, John Paul Mac Isaac, decided to fight back after losing his business and being harassed for 18 months by Big Tech, the media and Delaware locals in President Joe Biden ...... 46th president of the U.S. I'm not working for you. Don't be such a horse's ass. Don't say he didn't warn us...... ’s home state.
"After fighting to reveal the truth, all I want now is for the rest of the country to know that there was a collective and orchestrated effort by social and mainstream media to block a real story with real consequences for the nation," the 45-year-old Mac Isaac told The Post.
"This was collusion led by 51 former pillars in the intelligence community and backed by words and actions of a politically motivated DOJ and FBI ...Formerly one of the world's premier criminal investigation organizations, something for a nation to be proud of. Now it's a political arm of the Deep State oligarchy that is willing to trump up charges, suppress evidence, or take out insurance policies come election time... ," he continued. "I want this lawsuit to reveal that collusion and more importantly, who gave the marching orders."
Mac Isaac came to legally own the laptop after Biden’s son Hunter dropped it off at his store for repairs in April 2019 and never came back. The material on the laptop has raised serious questions about what Biden knew of his son’s overseas business deals, during which he and the president’s brother, Jim Biden, often invoked his powerful name.
After handing over a copy of the laptop’s hard drive to the FBI in December 2019, eight months later Mac Isaac alerted then-President Donald Trump ...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party... ’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who provided a copy of the hard drive to The Post.
When The Post’s first story broke in October 2020 — just three weeks before the presidential election — Twitter and Facebook moved to censor it. Then Schiff and 51 former intelligence officials labeled the laptop Russian disinformation.
In the aftermath, Mac Isaac says his business and reputation was ruined.
"Twitter initially labeled my action hacking, so for the first day after my information was leaked, I was bombarded with hate mail and death threats revolving around the idea that I was a hacker, a thief and a criminal," Mac Isaac said.
Schiff, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, "has some explaining" to do, Mac Isaac insisted.
"Without any intel, the head of the intel committee decided to share with CNN and its viewers a complete and utter lie," Mac Isaac said. "A lie issued in the protection of a preferred presidential candidate."

The T-90 is a huge piece of shit. This guy breaks it down pretty well.
It is basically a T-72 variant. The upgraded features of the T-90M are a digital display, blow out panels and the commander finally has his own infrared display. The armor is still just the same rolled steel as the T-72 however and the full powered ammunition that can defeat western tanks that Russia made is too long for the autoloader so the T-90 still used the old ammunition. In fact the only tank that can use the new ammunition is the T-14 and that isn't going into full production runs anytime soon.
#6
Why is that tank operating on its own without any apparent support around it? One would think by now the Russians would have integrated air defense postures into their tactical battleplan.
It's not like they don't understand the concept. The Egyptians, under their tutelage, covered the airspace over the Suez in the '73 war. It was a mix and mass of air defense that the Israelis suffered heavily from. It took the armor leaping the canal and taking it out that allow the IAF to regain the skies. However, the Egyptians couldn't get out from underneath the air defense umbrella without suffering a check on ground operations.
Again a near total lack of combined arms integration at the tactical level.

They're losing generals, and if Putin is paranoid enough they'll lose even higher ranks too.
I wonder if any of their replacements are taking notes about what works and what doesn't?

Because the Russian society has become a totally corrupt system, so the normal logic and equipment they could have is consumed in the theft process.
You become a general officer, police officer or politician to steal from the nation.
Caring about tactics and soldiers isn't part of that process.

Experts have previously noted that older Russian tanks are plagued by the so-called “jack-in-the-box” effect — a defect that Western militaries have been aware of for decades
The invading country’s Soviet-era tanks — including the T-72 and T-80, which have been used in Ukraine — suffer from the defect, The Drive said.
The “jack-in-the-box” effect, the result of a pressure shockwave caused by the explosion of stored ammunition, makes them susceptible to losing their tops in direct hits..

A lot of people watched the tea party get co-opted and invaded by grifters. MAGA has hats and cups but so far no cruises or magazines. CPAC is not really a MAGA thing, though there is some overlap. As long as CPAC can't co-opt MAGA, it will not go the way (away) of the tea party.

So this is the extreme left's new narrative? The country endured more than a year's worth of burning, looting, shooting and even murder by "model citizens" on the left. Little was done about this real insurrection.

[Rudaw] A Swedish-Iranian doctor arrested on charges of alleged spying for the Israeli government will be executed within the month, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported on Wednesday.
Ahmed Reza Jalali, an expert in emergency medicine, was arrested during an academic visit to Iran ...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence... in October 2016 and subsequently sentenced to death the next year on spying charges.
"The death sentence ...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead... of Ahmad Reza Jalali has been placed on the agenda and this sentence will be carried out by the end of May at the latest," ISNA reported.
According to the news outlet, Jalali is accused of the liquidation of two nuclear scientists in Iran after he allegedly supplied the Mossad (Israeli intelligence) with information about their rival's nuclear program.
Jalali's execution order follows the conclusion of a former Iranian official's trial in Sweden, suspected of committing war crimes in Iran more than 30 years ago. Iranian national Hamid Noury, 60, is on trial for "committing grave war crimes and murder in Iran during 1988," Swedish prosecutors announced on July 27.
Noury had served as assistant to the deputy governor of Gohardasht prison in Karaj, near the Iranian capital of Tehran, when an estimated 5,000 prisoners were killed across the country, following an order from then Lord High Potentate and Supreme Leader of All He Surveys of Iran Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Swedish courts are trying Nouri based on the principle of universal jurisdiction which allows them to tackle grave crimes regardless of where they were committed and if found guilty, Nouri faces a maximum life sentence behind bars.
Sweden's foreign minister on Wednesday slammed Iran's decision to carry out Jalili's execution.
Amnesia Amnesty International has previously expressed concern about the decision, calling on Iranian authorities to refrain from implementing the execution two years ago.
Jalali was granted Swedish citizenship while in prison in 2018, a move that according to ISNA, was done "in order to put pressure on the Iranian judicial system."
Arrests of dual-nationals in Iran are not uncommon. Iranian authorities have arrested dozens of foreign nationals in recent years, mainly on espionage charges.
Many of the arrests, including British-Iranian prisoners Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori, have been used as bargaining chips by the Iranian government. London in March paid Tehran an over £400-million debt, equivalent to over $500 million which allowed Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Ashoori to return home after many years of imprisonment on charges of attempting to "topple the Iranian government" and "spying for Israel's Mossad" respectively.

[Rudaw] At least one katyusha rocket targeted the house of an Iraqi intelligence agent in the early hours of Wednesday in Baghdad, according to the Iraqi Security Media Cell and country’s intelligence agency, with no human casualties reported; only material damage.
According to a statement from the federal intelligence and investigation agency, the house of Ahmed Abu Ragheef, lieutenant general in the agency, was targeted by a katyusha rocket in Baghdad’s Karrada area on Wednesday morning, in what it referred to as a "failed attempt ...Curses! Foiled again!... "It was a failed targeting attempt, and the damages are only to the fence of the house," read the statement, adding that the site of the rocket’s launchpad has been determined, and that the perpetrators of the attack will be met with "the most severe penalties."
A statement from the Iraqi Security Media Cell on Wednesday stated that the rocket was launched from east of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.
[GEO.TV] Fossils from some of the largest creatures ever to swim Earth's oceans - whale-sized marine reptiles called ichthyosaurs - have been found in a counterintuitive place: atop three mountains in the Swiss Alps up to 8,990 feet (2,740 meters) above sea level. Three mountains in Switzerland? That sucker really was big!
Scientists on Thursday described rib and vertebrae fossils from two ichthyosaur individuals: one about 69 feet (21 meters) long and the other about 49 feet (15 meters). They described from a third individual the largest-known tooth from any ichthyosaur with a base 2.4 inches (6 cm) wide and an estimated length of 6 inches (15 cm), suggestive of a fearsome predator. Yodeling ichthyosaurs!
The fossils, dating to around 205 million years ago near the end of the Triassic Period, make these three individuals among the largest of the giant ichthyosaurs that inhabited the oceans at a time when dinosaurs were beginning to dominate the land.
"The tooth is particularly interesting because it could possibly - but unlikely - represent the largest animal to ever inhabit Earth," said paleontologist Martin Sander of the University of Bonn, lead author of the study published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology.
It was found atop the Chrachenhorn Mountain near Davos. Based on the fact that a 59-foot-long (18-meters-long) ichthyosaur described last year had a tooth with a base eight-tenths of an inch (2 cm) wide, Sander said, "then a tooth 6 centimeters wide could possibly have come from an animal 54 meters (177 feet) in length."
The animal likely was not that big but still formidable, perhaps akin to a sperm whale, hunting giant squid, large fish and smaller ichthyosaurs. Some other giant ichthyosaurs apparently lacked teeth and ate small fish and squid, sucking them up or engulfing them in their mouths.

[Rudaw] The Kurdistan Region’s Security Council on Wednesday said that the Peshmerga forces had "rescued" three foreign nationals from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Sinjar (Shingal), adding they had been "deceived" by the group into fighting the "allies of their country".
The 14 minute video published by the Kurdistan Region’s Counter Terrorism units on Facebook showed recorded interviews with American nationals Vincent Mark Alexander and Jean Devol, and British national Emre Edwards, who all claim to have been rescued by the Peshmerga forces from Sinjar.
"As soon as you get there, there is no leaving, you are stuck there until your contract ends and even if your contract ends, they say it’s 8 months, that’s also a lie," Alexander said in the recorded interview referring to the Shingal Resistance® Units (YBS) and the PKK, adding that they had initially signed up to fight the Islamic State

I like how the word rescue in the headline is in quotes. As if the foreign nationals were having the time of their lives and didn't really need rescuing.
[PJMedia] Last week, PJ Media reported on the suspicious number of food processing plants, factories, logistics centers, and other industrial food facilities across the U.S. that had burned, went kaboom!, or had planes crash on them. In the past week, more accidents have occurred, the FBI ...Formerly one of the world's premier criminal investigation organizations, something for a nation to be proud of. Now it's a political arm of the Deep State oligarchy that is willing to trump up charges, suppress evidence, or take out insurance policies come election time... has issued a warning, possible motives have emerged, and one company offered a rather implausible explanation for the destruction of their facility. At this point, we still have more questions than answers.
Now the fact-checkers have come out in force, so we know there’s nothing to worry about. Right?
To be crystal clear: no pattern has yet emerged. The incidents still appear random. Nobody has produced a connection between all these incidents.
There are just a LOT of them, and they’re continuing.
The FBI has not made any mention of the fires, plane crashes, and explosions, but it has issued an alert about cyberattacks possibly timed to disrupt the grain harvest season:
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is informing Food and Agriculture (FA) sector partners that ransomware actors may be…. more likely to attack agricultural cooperatives during critical planting and harvest seasons, disrupting operations, causing financial loss, and negatively impacting the food supply chain. The FBI noted ransomware attacks during these seasons against six grain cooperatives during the fall 2021 harvest and two attacks in early 2022 that could impact the planting season by disrupting the supply of seeds and fertilizer.
It’s been a heckuva couple of weeks.
So is this a mere anomaly, or is something else going on?
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), fire departments across the U.S. respond to a fire call once every 23 seconds. That’s an estimated total of 1,388,500 fires in 2020. In October 2021, the NFPA released a report showing shifting trends in fires in America over the past two years corresponding to the pandemic:
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has released findings from its latest “Fire Loss in the U.S.” report, which shows that the total number of U.S. fires overall rose eight percent from 2019 to 2020. While some year-to-year fluctuation is normal, this increase reflects a far from typical year due to the pandemic.
“In 2020, more people were working and studying at home, commuting far less, and spending more time socializing outside,” said Lorraine Carli, vice president of Outreach and Advocacy at NFPA. “It appears that the fires followed these shifts.”
According to the report, which provides a broad overview of how, when, and where U.S. fires occur and their impact on life and property, residential structure fires rose five percent from 2019 to 2020, while non-residential structure fires fell eight percent. Highway vehicle fires fell nine percent; outside and other fires rose 17 percent. Civilian deaths and injuries fell six percent and eight percent, respectively.
What’s notable is the increase in residential fires and the decrease in commercial fires, as more workers stayed home during the pandemic. It follows, then, that as our economy is permitted to open back up by the public health officials who shut it down, certain forces are at play. More people are at more worksites, doing more things to cause fires there than they would have if they stayed home.
Other factors could also be at play, and nothing is conclusive. Despite rumors to the contrary, our economy and our supply chains have experienced widespread weaknesses for years. The economic pause, as it were, implemented by global public health agencies, caused much deeper fractures in supply chains as producers found it difficult to switch from wholesale to retail production and back again. Those broken supply chains, in turn, faced difficulty in meeting increased demand in some industries, while labor markets continue to struggle to find and pay enough workers. Could some of the fires be an easy way out for some facilities that have struggled and have lucrative insurance coverage? Could some of the incidents have resulted from year over year of deferred maintenance in industries with a thin profit margin?
Remember, on the other hand, those same public health officials who shut down our economy deemed workers at such facilities "essential," so no shutdown orders affected them. Plants didn’t simply lie around empty for two years, and personnel levels stayed mostly normal to handle maintenance issues that arose during that time. Lockdowns cannot explain the decrease in fires in 2019-20, nor the expected increase in 2022, because those lockdowns didn’t affect essential industries.
Is something more nefarious going on? Let’s remember back to May 2021 and what the Department of Energy calls the Colonial Pipeline Cyber Incident. The entire pipeline was shut down for a week, severely impacting the availability of airplane fuel and gasoline in several states in the Southeast. Colonial turned the pipeline back on, but only after paying Russian hackers $5 million in ransom.
Again, without jumping to conclusions, it seems many forces have begun to negatively affect our domestic food supply. This, on top of expected global food shortages as we progress through 2022. It would be wise to prepare accordingly.

[TSG h/t AOSHQ] MAY 3--A Louisiana woman who fired a shot at a male acquaintance who refused to perform oral sex on her has pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge as part of a deal that spares her prison time, records show.
In an April 27 sentencing hearing in the Baton Rouge courthouse, Anneisha Speed copped to a weapons charge, while prosecutors dropped a felony aggravated assault count against the 21-year-old.
Speed was placed on probation for two years and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service. She will also have to pay about $800 in fines and court costs and complete an "Effective Decision Making" course, according to a sentencing order. If Speed successfully completes her probation term, her conviction could be expunged.
Pictured at right, Speed was arrested in May 2019 following a confrontation in the victim’s Baton Rouge apartment.
As detailed in a probable cause affidavit, the victim told police that he had invited Speed to his home "due to the two ’hanging out’ earlier in the day." Speed, the man added, subsequently "asked for oral sex."
After the man declined the request from Speed, she "produced" a .40 caliber handgun and "demanded oral sex again stating if he declined she would shoot him," police reported. When the man grabbed Speed’s wrist, she fired the weapon, but the round did not hit him.
The victim then fled his home (seen below) and "jumped from the second floor balcony to avoid getting shot at again," a police lieutenant noted. "The victim stated that while he was fleeing, he heard another shot fired."
Crime scene investigators recovered a spent shell casing and a live .40 caliber round in the man’s residence.
Arrested shortly after the shooting, Speed was in possession of a spent .40 caliber shell casing and two live rounds when police searched her at the local precinct. "The Defendant admitted to picking up the spent casing because it had her DNA on it," according to the affidavit.
Speed, who was freed on $17,000 bond following her arrest in the shooting case, was busted earlier this year for battery on a dating partner. She pleaded guilty this month to the misdemeanor count and was placed on unsupervised probation.

[GEOTV] A couple in the US encountered a massive alligator in their garage that had gulped down a slab of Coca Cola, NDTV reported.
Karyn and Jamie Dobson reported that they were watching TV in the living room when they heard a loud crash.
"The crash was big, like wicked," said Karyn.
The Dobsons said they thought it was a car accident nearby.
When Jamie went to the garage to investigate, he was shocked to see an eight-foot alligator enjoying a coke with froth all over it and cans spread out on the floor. Jamie had opened the door to take a peek.
"Very quickly closed the door [and said], 'Karyn, we have an alligator in our garage,' Coming from the Midwest, we really hadn't experienced this before," he said.
Jamie further added that the alligator quickly realised that it had been spotted. It began to back away and flash its teeth.
The couple immediately called a local wrangler to get rid of the reptile.
The alligator had attacked the box of Diet Coke they had saved up for an upcoming party.
"There was Diet Coke spewing everywhere, because the gator was interested, tore open the box, had a few cans," Karyn told a media channel, adding that the reptile "probably thought it was beer maybe."
The mating season for alligators begins in April which means more opportunities for encounters with communities. Gators emerge from swamps in search of partners.

Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... The Sabratha Security Directorate said in a statement that a human trafficking gang was attempting to carry out an operation in the coastal city.
The migrants colonists were arrested, with their rubber boat and equipment confiscated.
"Members of the human smuggling gang fled, leaving behind five motorized vehicles at the scene of the crime," the statement added.
The police confirmed that all the seizures were referred to the Criminal Investigation Department, and the necessary measures were taken to arrest the suspects.

[REGNUM] The humanitarian corridor from the territory of Azovstal in Mariupol (DPR) will be open for the evacuation of civilians: on May 5, 6 and 7 from 08:00 Moscow time to 18:00 Moscow time, the Interdepartmental Coordination Headquarters of the Russian Federation for Humanitarian Response reported on May 4.
It is noted that the gum corridor will be opened "for the evacuation of civilians (working personnel, women and children), whose presence in the underground facilities of the plant, once again, is announced by the Kiev authorities."
During the operation of the humanitarian corridor, the Russian Armed Forces and the military of the DPR "unilaterally cease any military operations."
The military will withdraw to a safe distance and ensure "the withdrawal of civilians in any direction they choose" - both to the territory of Russia, "and to areas controlled by the Kiev authorities."
From last May 1st: About 300 civilians left at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol
MARIUPOL , DPR , May 1, 2022 , 14:13 — REGNUMOn the territory of the Azovstal metallurgical plant in Mariupol, where the remnants of Ukrainian Nazis are blocked in the city, and the territories adjacent to it, there may be about 300 more civilians. On May 1, one of the civilians who left the territories adjacent to the plant told about this.
“Man 300. Maybe a little more, I think so ,” RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.
As REGNUM reported , earlier one of the residents of Mariupol, who was in a bomb shelter and left the quarters near the plant, said that Kiev militants intimidated civilians so that they would not leave the territory of the Azovstal plant and the houses located next to it .

Every First Lady has a signature initiative. This is a little more edgy than nutritious school lunches but I am sure that it is a well needed PSA. Maybe a fresh water initiative could be done if her husband wins a second term and the kids have calmed down some.

You mean there are people who miss-interpret or take the phrase "Screwing the pooch?" literally? Most normal people use that phrase to describe goofing off at work.

Ottoman Turkish military and its affiliated Syrian opposition armed factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA), renewed on Wednesday shelling of villages southeast of Afrin in Aleppo northern countryside, north Syria.
The Ottoman Turkish forces, stationed in Maryamin village, shelled the village of Shawargha in Afrin countryside with tanks, a military source told North Press.
The Kurdish city of Afrin and its countryside have been under the control of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... and its affiliated factions since 2018 following a military operation called "Olive Branch".
The source added that the shelling caused material destruction of about 10 houses in the village.
About 40 villages south and southeast of Afrin in Aleppo northern countryside house Afrin IDPs who fled their homes following the Ottoman Turkish operation.
In the same context, the Ottoman Turkish military and its affiliated armed factions shelled on Wednesday evening the villages of Aqiba and Ebbin in Aleppo northern countryside.
[OneIndia]\\The Special Investigation Agency (SIA), a unit carved out of the Jammu and Kashmir ...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there.... police has filed a charge sheet against three persons including an Indian student enrolled in a Pak university and his father for indulging in terror activities and passing across the border information about army units.
Officials said this was another example of Pakistain misusing higher studies as bait for recruitment in terror groups.
Officials said this was another example of Pakistain misusing higher studies as bait for recruitment in terror groups. Already 17 youths who had gone to Pakistain for studies, have been killed at the Line of Control while infiltrating into Kashmir, or during security forces’ encounters with terror outfits, they said.

[GEO.TV] Prince Harry and Princess Meghan Markle ...unlikable American former starlet married to the formerly likable Prince Harry. Chock full of lefty political opinions, Markle's most important characteristic is that she is Black, even though she doesn't look it. Her mother, y'see, is half black and her father is white, which would make her a quarter Black. Her half brother described her (to her husband, before their marriage) as a jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage. Once married, she was too good for the Royals and she and Harry decamped to Beverly Hills, kind of like the Clampetts did, thus making a joke of Harry and the royal family heritage... are facing a "complete disaster" after video streaming giant cancelled its development of Pearl, an animated series created by the Duchess of Sussex, according to an expert.
Meghan Markle's series being dropped by Netflix is a "complete disaster" for her and Prince Harry, a commentator has claimed.
Rafe Heydel-Mankoo, a royal commentator, said the axing of the series was a "complete disaster" for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex , who are living in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, after quitting royal duties.
Mr Heydel-Mankoo told GB News: "Archewell productions, their Netflix company which has had the catastrophic news that Pearl — its flagship production which was an animated series executively produced by Elton John and David Furnish — is to be axed.
"As you know, Netflix is having big problems with a dip in subscriber numbers, falling revenues, plummeting share prices and having spent too much on other problems, and is cutting back — particularly on animated series.
"So while Harry’s Invictus documentary is carrying on, there is nothing for Meghan to show for it and it’s really calling into question whether they can walk the walk. They’re good at talking the talk.
They signed up to Spotify but have only produced one podcast so far, the Netflix deal has been in place for over a year now and there’s very little to show for it.
"It looks as if, you know, apart from moaning about the royals there’s not much that they’re able to do."

...Oh, and while I'm at it: if I were King for a day (sorry, Harry) I'd be looking really, really hard at some of these sweetheart celebrity deals from Netflix, various and sundry publishers, and etc. Bluntly, I think the technical term for at least some of it is 'money laundering'.

I'm no socialist, but just imagine if all the money lavished on "famous people" for lending their names to various projects and getting huge book deals for books they didn't even write instead went to widows and orphans.

I suspect a number of shows were not actually real. Instead they were designed as a way for Netflix to funnel money to liberals they like. When Netflix suddenly didn't have enough money these shows were cancelled.

Freeloading is a short-term vocation when all you can sell is dirt on your family. Once you have sold it, and money gets tight, your "friends" find you trivial and inconvenient. You were a useful foil for the hated British Monarchy, but that has run its course, so please move on. $4,000 a month will get you a nice 3 bedroom rental in Studio City if you can get a work visa Harry?

It's really too bad about Harry. I used to admire him. He went into the army and went to Afghanistan in a combat unit. They pulled him out when some asshole reporter revealed who and where he was. He was pulled because if the Taliban knew where he was, they would make him a priority target, which would endanger his whole unit. He then went on to become a gunship pilot.
But then he married Meghan ...

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[ColonelCassad] 1. Mariupol.
After the evacuation of some civilians, massive artillery shelling and aerial bombardment of Azovstal continued. Sporadic breakthroughs to test for seepage from the plant site are stopped. A full-fledged assault on the plant is not being undertaken.
The encircled were told that they would either surrender or be destroyed on the territory of Azovstal. There will be no corridors for them. Information about the capture of the Canadian general has not yet been verified.
2. Zaporozhye.
There are no big changes on the Kamenskoye-Orekhov-Gulyaipole line. There were only battles south of Orekhovo. There are also battles on the outskirts of Gulyai-Polye. To the east of Gulyaipole, fighting continues for various villages. There is no significant progress. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine declares that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are just probing the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and are accumulating a strike force, including at the expense of the troops released in Mariupol.
3. Ugledar.
On the line Novomikhailovka-Ugledar-Velikaya Novoselovka without significant changes. The RF Armed Forces entrenched themselves in the settlements south of Velikaya Novoselovka. The Ugledar fortified area continues to cover the Maryinka-Kurakhovo highway.
4. Marinka.
There are no significant advances here. As before, the battles are going on in the area of the waste heap. The battles themselves are of a positional nature, especially since the enemy has the ability to throw reinforcements into Maryinka from the direction of Kurakhovo.
5. Avdievka.
In the Avdievka industrial zone, medium-intensity battles continue without serious advances. To the north, fighting is going on at Novoselka-2 and Novobakhmutovka. The troops of the DPR managed to enter Troitskoye - fighting continues in the area of the village. Attempts to advance to New York from the east have not yet brought significant success. At the same time, the enemy continues to shell the settlements of the DPR - Donetsk, Makeevka, Yasinovataya, Yelenovka, etc. 122mm to 152mm cannon artillery, various types of MLRS + OTR "Tochka-U" are used.
6. LPR.
Fighting continues in the industrial area of Rubizhne. Fighting also continues on the outskirts of Severodonetsk. In Popasna, the slow gnaw through of the fortified area of the Armed Forces of Ukraine continues. The pace of progress is low. The enemy has the ability to plant reserves here. Significant losses on both sides in Popasnaya. Both sides understand the operational value of Popasna, so the battle for the city is going on with unrelenting bitterness.
7. Izyum.
Fighting continues north of the Barvenkovo-Slavyansk highway. It has not yet been possible to reach the highway, although it is already possible to carry out its fire defeat. The fighting is going on in the Kurulki-Pashkovo area. Fighting continues near Bolshaya Kamyshevakha. In the direction of Slavyansk, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, after the capture of Yampol, partially covered Krasny Liman, fighting is taking place on the outskirts of the city. The enemy is blowing up bridges and preparing a retreat to the next line of defense north of Slavyansk. In this direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to suffer the heaviest losses. The transfer of Volkssturm units here reflects the problem of the catastrophic loss of personnel in personnel brigades.
8. Kharkov.
After an unsuccessful attempt to advance on Kazachya Lopan and the loss of two villages, the Armed Forces of Ukraine changed tactics and started fighting for Russkaya Lozovaya, where fighting continues to this day, and also carried out an attack in the direction of Stary Saltov, pushing a light curtain of LPR reservists. After the transfer of reinforcements, the front again moved south, but due to the lack of forces in this direction on both sides, tactical shifts in one direction or another are possible here in the future.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are also trying to establish crossings across the Seversky Donets in order to create a more serious threat to the flank of the Izyum grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine south of Volchansk. The main task of all these battles is to divert part of the forces of the RF Armed Forces from the Izyum direction through harassing operations against the open flank.
9. Nikolaev.
Medium-intensity battles continue on the line between Kherson and Nikolaev. The front line has shifted somewhat in the direction of Nikolaev, the enemy admits serious losses, but continues to build up forces for possible counterattacks in this direction.
On the Krivoy Rog direction without changes. Despite the statements of the Gauleiter of Krivoy Rog, the grouping of the RF Armed Forces did not go on the offensive in this direction. There is also no significant progress on the front south of Nikopol in the Novovorontsovka area.
10. Odessa.
Missile strikes on military and transport infrastructure continue. Part of the APU grouping is still kept in the Odessa area, fearing a sea landing, although its probability is not very high now. After the UAV raid on Zmeiny Island, attacks on the Shkolny airfield followed. Provocations also continue on the border with Transnistria. Until the situation with Nikolaev is resolved, direct operations against Odessa are unlikely.
The Nazis hiding at Azovstal offered to exchange civilians there for food and medicine
"The indicated terms of the deal are fifteen hostages per ton of food, as well as medicines. They warned that no one else would be allowed to go to Ukraine, now they will only be exchanged," said a representative of the headquarters of the operation to liberate the enterprise. Natsiks change their civilians for food.
Can you imagine that the defenders of the Brest Fortress would offer to cancel the women and children who were also there with them for food and pills?
The representative of the headquarters said that he had already encountered similar methods: in particular, in Syria, in negotiations with ISIS militants.
[Daily Wire] Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates reportedly owns more farmland in the U.S. than any other individual, according to Left-wing fact-checking site Snopes.
Snopes last week rated a claim that Gates owns "the majority of U.S. farmland" as "false," but admitted that the tech billionaire "does own a lot of farmland." And, while his wealth is still mainly in the form of Microsoft stock, he hasn't written any Windows code since Windows 98 and left the Microsoft board of directors in 2020
"In fact, he reportedly owns more farmland than any other individual in America," the fact-check said. "According to 2021 article from the Land Report, a magazine about land ownership, Gates owns approximately 242,000 acres of farmland."
"While this is certainly a lot of acreage, it represents less than 1% of all the farmland in the United States," the report emphasized.
"According to a 2021 report from the United States Department of Agriculture and the National Agriculture Statistics Service, there are 895,300,000 acres of farmland in the United States. Gates’ 242,000 acres amounts to about 0.03% of the total," Snopes added.
The Land Report article linked by Snopes emphasizes Gates’ landholdings by naming his "alter ego" "Farmer Bill, the guy who owns more farmland than anyone else in America."
"The Gateses’ largest single block of dirt was acquired in 2017: a group of farmland assets owned by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board," the report said.
"Based in Toronto, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board began assembling an agricultural portfolio in 2013, when it acquired AgCoA, aka, Agricultural Company of America," Land Report explained. "This private US farmland REIT was a joint venture between Duquesne Capital Management and Goldman Sachs that launched in 2007. Over the next five years, AgCoA acquired more than 100,000 acres in nine states. By the time it was sold to the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board in 2013, AgCoA ranked as one of the leading institutional owners of row crop farmland in the US."
"Yet farmland assets aren’t the sole component of the Gateses’ landholdings," the report detailed. "In 2017, Cascade Investment bought a ’significant stake’ in 24,800 acres of transitional land on the western edge of Phoenix, the most populous city in Arizona and the 10th largest metropolitan area in the country. ... Cascade Investment doubled down on Phoenix transitional land two years later when it made a second major investment by acquiring more than 2,800 acres known as Spurlock Ranch in Buckeye for $25 million."
Gates has recently become a prominent fixture in the media, mostly featured for his opinions on pandemic-related activity, but also for his recent divorce from ex-wife Melinda Gates and his apparent friendship with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Many states have separate property valuation for farm lands that is far lower then the lands speculators and developers get their hands on. The intent is to prohibit the latter from inflating the value of the surrounding land so that the farm's property taxes are beyond the ability of farmers to sustain. thus moving arable land from food production. Tied to that is the demonstrative application of agriculture on the land.
