[SHABELLEMEDIA] A senior Somali police officer, Lieutenant Colonel Adan Biid, was tragically rubbed out by unidentified button men in the capital city of Mogadishu on Friday afternoon, May 3, 2024.

Members of al-Jamaa al-Islamiya held a funeral procession Sunday in the town of Bebnine for two of the group's fighters. They were killed two days earlier in an Israeli dronezap in the eastern Bekaa region. Heavy gunfire accompanied the procession.
Dozens of masked and gunnies were seen walking the town's streets, brandishing their weapons and firing in the air.
According to the local L’Orient Today news outlet, the stray bullets hit four people, including one woman, a man and a 10-year-old child who were inside their homes when the procession passed. Cars and property in the area were also reportedly damaged by the gunfire.
Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya is a Sunni Islamist political group founded in 1964 as the Lebanese branch of the Moslem Brüderbund. The group is present in Sunni-dominated cities and towns in both the south and the north. It is seen as an ally of Hamas ...not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,... and has carried out joint attacks with the group, one of its officials said last month.
Its military wing, al-Fajr Forces, was founded in 1982 to fight the Israeli invasion of Lebanon during the civil war at the time. Its relations with Hezbollah, the dominant Iran-backed Shia murderous Moslem group in Lebanon, have fluctuated. The two took opposite sides during the civil war and in the conflict in Syria, with Jamaa opposing Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Supressor of the Damascenes... . Their relations have improved in the last two years and as Hezbollah-Hamas coordination increased inside Lebanon.
UNCONTROLLED ARMS
The videos and images of the gunnies in Bebnine sparked widespread outrage among civilians and politicians and renewed the debate about the spread of weapons in the country amid the deterioration of the Lebanese state.
In a post on X on Sunday, independent parliament member Mark Daou condemned the presence of militias as a violation of the country’s illusory sovereignty, calling for the state for arms control.
Ibrahim Mneime, another independent politician, said al-Jamaa al-Islamiya bears responsibility for the "military demonstration" and the fall of the maimed in Akkar. He also condemned what he described as the group maintaining control of these weapons through intimidation.
Gunfire at events like weddings and funerals is common in some parts of Lebanon. Supporters of the Shiite Hezbollah movement are known for firing bursts of bullets in the air when the group’s leader, His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah ...The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb... , delivers his televised speeches.
The practice has killed several people over the years. Most recently, last August, a seven-year-old girl was killed when a stray bullet struck her in the head while she was at a summer camp in the town of Hadath near Beirut.
Arms possession in Lebanon is poorly regulated and many civilians along with Paleostinian and Lebanese factions own firearms. Hezbollah, which is heavily backed by Iran, owns a large arsenal of weapons that includes thousands of rockets, anti-tank missiles and drones.
Amid the controversy, al-Jamaa al-Islamiya issued a statement on its website saying it regretted "the armed convoy and shooting during the funeral procession from Tripol to Bebnine." The statement went on, "Any scene that raises panic and fear among the Lebanese is unacceptable," and "We affirm that the group is keen on the stability of the homeland and the security of citizens."
HOSTILITIES ON ISRAEL-LEBANON BORDER
Since the cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah erupted in October, al-Jamaa al-Islamiya’s military wing has claimed several rocket launches toward Israeli territory.
On Friday, two senior commanders of the group were killed when an Israeli dronezap hit their vehicle on a road linking the villages of Sarira and Meidoun in the Bekaa region in the east of the country. The group identified the commanders as Mosab Saeed Khalaf and Bilal Mohammed Khalaf.

The Shahid Mahdavi is a more than 2.1-ton and roughly 787-foot long container ship that the IRGC, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization and formal arm of the Iranian military, converted into a multi-purpose warship capable of carrying helicopters, unmanned aerial drones, and speedboats.
According to Iranian state media, the Shahid Mahdavi is equipped with a three-dimensional phased array radar, sea-to-sea and sea-to-air missiles, and advanced communication systems for electronic warfare. The ship was commissioned into the IRGC Navy in March 2023.
Iranian state media claimed that the warship was “conducting its biggest mission in terms of distance and operation,” without specifying further. Iranian authorities have not publicly disclosed the nature of the warship’s mission at press time.

[Breitbart] José Raúl Mulino, a last-minute conservative candidate in Panama’s 2024 presidential race, was elected in Sunday’s general election with a nearly ten percent lead over his closest rival.
Mulino, a 64-year-old lawyer and former minister of security in the country, campaigned on implementing a crackdown on migration by “closing” the dangerous Darien Gap jungle trail that Panama shares with Colombia, which thousands of migrants from South America and other regions use to reach the United States. Mulino has also vowed to improve Panama’s economy.
The now president-elect ran as a stand-in candidate for former President Ricardo Martinelli (2009-2014), who was banned from running for a new term after local courts sentenced him to ten years in prison on money laundering charges in 2023.
Martinelli, whose appeal was denied by the Supreme Court of Panama, sought asylum at the Nicaraguan embassy in Panama City in February and has remained sheltered in it since then as local authorities have not granted Martinelli a safe passage out of Panama.
Mulino will take office for a five-year term on July 1, succeeding current center-left President Laurentino Cortizo. Cortizo was not eligible for reelection, as Panama’s constitution states that a president may not be reelected in two consecutive presidential terms.
With more than 98 percent of the votes tallied by Panama’s Electoral Tribunal at press time, Mulino, who ran as the candidate for “Save Panama,” a coalition composed of Martinelli’s conservative Realizing Goals party and the centrist Alliance Party, obtained 34.32 percent of the votes.
Ricardo Lombana, who ran for the Another Way Movement (MOCA) “green” party came in second place with 24.75 percent of the votes, while Martín Torrijs, of the center-right Popular Party, received 16.01 percent of the votes. The voter turnout rate was estimated at 77.63 percent.
“Mission accomplished, damn it!” Mulino exclaimed at the start of his Sunday victory speech, asserting that leading Panama would be a “gigantic task” and the most important part of his now-successful presidential campaign was to identify with that “feeling and that clamor of the irreducible majorities of the country, who trusted in our proposal because they had hope of getting out of the hole they were put in during the last ten years.”
Mulino assured his sympathizers that he would promote a “pro-investment, pro-private enterprise government” but stressed that “we must not forget those who are hungry, those who need drinking water. These are very big challenges.”
Additionally, Mulino declared that he would defend freedom of speech and human rights during his administration.
In April, Mulino vowed that, if elected president, he would “close” down the Darien Gap and duly deport migrants in accordance with human rights provisions. Mulino, however, has not given the specifics of what his plan to close the infamous jungle trail would entail at press time.
The head of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, extended his congratulations to Mulino and saluted Panamaians for their Sunday electoral participation. Almagro said in a statement that the Central American country could count on OAS to continue expanding the agenda of democracy, human rights, security, and sustainable development.

The two conservative lawmakers have insisted that Johnson is compromised and will not be Speaker next Congress. They called for him to step down so Republicans can begin moving forward, arguing Johnson’s unofficial lame duck status will hurt Republicans as they fundraise and campaign for November’s elections.
“I have been patient, I have been diligent. I have been steady. And I’ve been focused on the facts,” Greene said. “And none of that has changed.”
The meeting came one day after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) bragged on CBS about controlling the House floor agenda — a characterization many conservatives agree with.

Greene and Massie did not share what time they would meet with Johnson on Tuesday morning, but Greene could call for a vote on her motion at any time.
The House would then have two legislative days to hold a vote, although Johnson is expected to hold a vote to table the motion before the two legislative days expire, perhaps immediately after Greene makes her move.
Jeffries and his Democrat leadership have promised to save Johnson by voting to table the motion to vacate.

[NY Post] Thirteen federal judges announced Monday that they will no longer hire Columbia University grads as law clerks because of the “virulent spread of antisemitism” on the troubled Ivy League campus.
The jurists fired off a letter to Columbia President Minouche Shafik saying the once-prestigious Manhattan university has become “an incubator of bigotry” as anti-Israeli protests continue to run rampant there, the Free Beacon said.
“Freedom of speech protects protest, not trespass, and certainly not acts of threats of violence or terrorism,” the judges said in the scathing missive, which was sent after weeks of campus encampments and the eventual takeover of a historic Columbia academic building.
“It has become clear that Columbia applies double standards when it comes to free speech and student misconduct,” the judges said.
“Recent events demonstrate that ideological homogeneity throughout the entire institution of Columbia has destroyed its ability to train future leaders of a pluralistic society and intellectually diverse country.
“As judges who hire law clerks every year to serve in the federal judiciary we have lost confidence in Columbia as an institution of higher education,” the letter said. “Columbia has instead become an incubator of bigotry.”
The stunning boycott comes as Columbia administrators Monday canceled the university’s traditional school-wide graduation ceremony over concerns about unrest.
According to the federal judges now boycotting Columbia, the protest there has gone entirely too far.
“Both professors and administrators are on the front lines of the campus disruptions, encouraging the virulent spread of antisemitism and bigotry,” the judges wrote.
“Significant and dramatic change in the composition of its faculty and administration is required to restore confidence in Columbia,” they said.
The jurists signing the letter were led by federal appellate Judges James Ho and Elizabeth Branch, who spearheaded earlier boycotts of Yale and Stanford University law schools, according to the Free Beacon.
Last year, Ho and Branch announced they would stop considering Stanford Law School graduates for clerk positions after another conservative judge was booed off the stage at the school.
In 2022, the two judges said they would no longer hire Yale Law School grads as clerks because of a prevalence of “cancel culture” at the renowned university.

Hamas changed the language in the cease-fire deal it accepted Monday to count the bodies of dead hostages in a proposed swap for Palestinian prisoners, according to a shocking report.
The deal signed by Hamas also included an end to the war in Gaza — something the Israeli side said it would not accept.
But one of the biggest changes reportedly came in the language around the 33 Israeli hostages who were set to be released in exchange for a cease-fire.
While the original deal called for 33 living hostages, Hamas changed the wording to include 33 hostages "alive or bodies," officials told public broadcaster KAN TV.
Israeli officials have blasted the proposal as significantly different from what Israel had initially said it would agree to.
Hamas has repeatedly warned that it does not have enough hostages who meet Israel’s demands, which called for the release of hostages who are women, elderly or those suffering from illnesses and medical conditions.
The Hamas deal also contained wording that called for an end to the nearly seven-month long war, which goes against Israel’s hardened stance, a senior American official told CNN.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has repeatedly said that the war will not end until Hamas is eliminated, vowed to reject Hamas’ offer.
Despite Netanyahu’s plans, his office said Israel is still sending a negotiation team to Cairo "to exhaust the possibility of achieving an agreement on terms that are acceptable to Israel."

[ZH] The Biden administration has agreed to shut down a national security experts’ group as part of settling a lawsuit accusing the group of being politically biased in favor of Democrats.
On Sept. 19, 2023, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) launched the Homeland Intelligence Experts Group to provide advice on intelligence and national security efforts. In November, America First Legal (AFL) and former Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell sued the DHS, the group, and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, arguing that the experts group violated provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA).
Section 5 of FACA requires that an advisory committee be "fairly balanced in terms of the points of view." It also mandates there be provisions to ensure that "the advice and recommendations of the advisory committee will not be inappropriately influenced by the appointing authority or by any special interest."
The lawsuit noted that "the Experts Group’s members are political allies of the Biden Administration. Most members have applauded the Administration’s decisions and fervidly condemned former President Trump’s America First approach to foreign policy."
"They have overwhelmingly donated to President Biden or other Democrats. Defendant Mayorkas selected members that are agreeable, not balanced," it stated.
Some of the members were also signatories of a letter that dismissed the Hunter Biden laptop story as Russian disinformation.
On May 2, plaintiffs and the defendants in the case agreed to settle the matter, with the DHS agreeing to wind up the experts group in 30 days.
The group "will not hold any future meetings, and the Department will not reconstitute the Experts Group inconsistent with the FACA or the Homeland Security Act of 2002," the joint notice of the agreement stated.
The DHS agreed to provide AFL with the group’s meeting agendas and minutes, which have to be submitted within 15 days. "Based on these representations, Plaintiffs have agreed to dismiss their lawsuit with prejudice."
The department did not admit any wrongdoing and maintained its position that the group did not violate FACA.
"Thanks to the courage of Ric Grenell in standing up to the Deep State, we have just achieved an unqualified legal victory over Mayorkas and Biden. As a result of our lawsuit in federal court, DHS is surrendering in total to our demands," said Stephen Miller, president of America First Legal.
The "partisan" experts group "would have been used to promote censored, unethical spying, and gross civil rights invasions of political enemies," he added.
Mr. Grenell said that DHS "surrendered" on the issue because they knew AFL was in the right and that "Biden’s team broke the law."
This is the second time that the Biden administration has agreed to disband an advisory group due to violating FACA provisions. In December 2022, the Department of Education disbanded its National Parents and Families Engagement Council after legal action brought by AFL and its clients.
Partisan Committee
When the DHS experts group was first announced, the panel comprised seventeen members. In its lawsuit, AFL stated that these members "do not represent a fair balance of viewpoints."
Two of the panel members were John Brennan, a former director of the CIA, and James Clapper, former director of national intelligence. Both of them were signatories of the "Letter of 51," using their intelligence credentials to outrightly dismiss the Hunter Biden laptop story ahead of the 2020 election.
Despite the FBI having validated the authenticity of the laptop, the letter claimed that the story had "all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation."
Another panel member, Tashina Gauhar, a former associate deputy attorney general and deputy assistant attorney general, is linked to the 2016 Trump—Russia collusion probe.
She was "extensively involved in the FBI’s corrupt, partisan probe into the baseless allegations that former President Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia before the 2016 election, including drafting the FISA applications that were used to spy on the Trump campaign," the lawsuit noted.
Out of the 17 panel members, 13 have a history of political contributions, collectively making 945 contributions to candidates for political office that are reportable to the Federal Election Commission.
"Of those 945 contributions, 932 (98.62 percent) were made to Democrat candidates for office, while only 12 (1.27 percent) were made to Republican candidates for office," the lawsuit stated.
"Of the 13 contributors, 9 contributed only to Democrats, whereas 1 contributed only to a Republican (with a single donation of $250). Three contributed to members of both parties, but of those, 2 were heavily lopsided in favor of Democrat candidates. The other contributor gave 8 contributions to Democrat candidates and 7 to Republican candidates."
In total, the political contributions made by the panel members came to over $168,000 since January 2012, out of which more than $156,000 went to Democrat candidates.
On Sept. 29 after the DHS announced the experts group, GOP lawmakers had written a letter to Mr. Mayorkas, asking him to rescind appointments of people like Mr. Clapper and Mr. Brennan as they were "individuals known to spread lies and disinformation."
A few days earlier on Sept. 26, Rep. August Pfluger (R-Tex.) introduced HR 5729 which sought to "prohibit the use of Federal funds to establish a Homeland Intelligence Experts Group and for other purposes."

The lead prosecutor for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against former President Donald Trump received thousands of dollars from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in 2018, Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show.
Matthew Colangelo, who was President Joe Biden’s acting associate attorney general and spent two years in the current president’s Department of Justice (DOJ), joined the Manhattan District Attorney’s office as senior counsel in December 2022. The lawyer received $12,000 from the DNC in 2018 for "political consulting" in two payments of $6,000 on Jan. 31 of that year, FEC records show. Fox News Digital first reported the payments to Colangelo from the DNC.
Reports say Matthew Colangelo received $12,000 from the DNC for "political consulting" in 2018.
Colangelo delivered the opening statement for the prosecution in the Trump hush money case.
Yet Trump can't talk about this due to his unconstitutional gag order.
Trump is unable to speak about Colangelo as Judge Juan Merchan imposed a gag order on him that prevents the former president from speaking about prosecutors on the case besides Bragg.
Colangelo was appointed in 2022 while Bragg was still investigating Trump in relation to a $130,000 payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels to keep her silent regarding an alleged affair. He delivered opening statements for the prosecution in April, arguing that Trump falsified business documents corresponding to the payment as part of a broader initiative to "corrupt the 2016 election."
"It was election fraud, pure and simple," Colangelo said.
Trump has consistently characterized the case as "election interference," referencing it as a "Biden witch hunt" and the "Biden Case."
House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan sent a letter Tuesday to Attorney General Merrick Garland regarding Colangelo, requesting documents and communications from his tenure at the DOJ. Jordan demanded personnel files pertaining to Colangelo’s hiring, employment and termination at the DOJ, as well as records and correspondences related to Trump or his organization.
“Bragg is engaged in one such politicized prosecution, which is being led in part by Matthew B. Colangelo, a former senior Justice Department official. Accordingly, given the perception that the Justice Department is assisting in Bragg’s politicized prosecution, we write to request information and documents related to Mr. Colangelo’s employment,” Jordan wrote.
While at the New York District Attorney’s office, Colangelo led the probe into the Trump Foundation, which resulted in its dissolution, as well as leading the investigation that eventually became Trump’s civil fraud case, according to The New York Times.
The DNC and Bragg did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
[Aljazeera] Air safety officials in the United States are investigating whether employees at Boeing falsified inspections records for the 787 Dreamliner.
The Federal Aviation Administration said on Monday that it had opened the probe after Boeing voluntarily informed officials that it may not have completed required inspections to "confirm adequate bonding and grounding where the wings join the fuselage on certain 787 Dreamliner airplanes".
"The FAA is investigating whether Boeing completed the inspections and whether company employees may have falsified aircraft records. At the same time, Boeing is reinspecting all 787 airplanes still within the production system and must also create a plan to address the in-service fleet," an FAA spokesperson said in a statement.
"As the investigation continues, the FAA will take any necessary action — as always — to ensure the safety of the flying public."

Five years ago, Lois Hererra, Jaye Murray, and Laura Feijoo filed a lawsuit alleging that the city's DOE had discriminated against them on the basis of their race, as Blaze News previously reported. The lawsuit originally sought $90 million in damages.
Hererra, a Harvard alumna who had become executive director of the Office of Safety and Youth Development following decades at the agency, had been demoted in favor of Mark Rampersant, a black man with a GED. Murray, a former executive director of the Office of Counseling Support Programs, was demoted three rungs and had to report to Rampersant at one point. Finally, Feijoo, a former senior supervising superintendent who once supervised all other DOE superintendents was passed over for an opening at deputy chancellor by one of her black subordinates, Cheryl Watson-Harris, who did not even have the license necessary for the position at the time she was hired.
Those staffing changes occurred under the leadership of former Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza, a lackey of Democrat former Mayor Bill de Blasio, who was "fixated on diversity," according to an internal DOE email written by then-chief operating officer Ursulina Ramirez.
According to the lawsuit, Carranza threatened the job of any "Caucasian DOE employees" who dared to question his "equity platform." "Get on board ... or leave," he allegedly warned them.

The United Methodist Church joined ranks with other progressive American denominations last week when, at its general conference, the church reversed prohibitions on LGBT clergy, same-sex weddings, and rules against LGBT-practicing members.
Now, United Methodist pastors can openly practice the LGBT lifestyle and will not face discipline for officiating same-sex marriages. The denomination, moreover, no longer teaches that "the practice of homosexuality ... is incompatible with Christian teaching."
But Methodist representatives from the majority world are standing their ground.
IIRC, some denominations have had to bring in African priests because there aren't enough American ones, and some African churches did send missionaries a few years back.

[Federalist] The House Rules Committee will consider a proposal late Monday afternoon that would prevent illegal aliens and other foreign nationals from skewing elections by shifting the apportionment of congressional seats and electoral college votes.
The "Equal Representation Act" would modify the Census Bureau’s questionnaire for each decennial census beginning in 2030 by requiring individuals to attest to their citizenship status on the form and then using that data to exclude foreign nationals from the count used to determine congressional and electoral college apportionment. Apportionment is derived from the number of residents in a particular area but does not currently differentiate legal citizens from foreigners who, in many cases, are illegal immigrants. A state can gain or lose congressional seats and electoral college votes based on the size of its population.
This means that millions of illegal aliens who have invaded the country can dilute the representation of American citizens by inflating the populations of the left-leaning areas to which they flock — even as American citizens flee those same states.
When former President Donald Trump signed a memo in July 2020 barring illegal aliens from being counted in the census, it was promptly met with a flurry of challenges. A handful of judges blocked the memo, and President Joe Biden eventually reversed the policy.
Democrat New York Rep. Yvette Clark made it crystal clear why Democrats support including illegal aliens in their apportionment tallies when she said in 2021 that her district could "absorb a significant number of these migrants" because "I need more people in my district, just for redistricting purposes." As droves of Californians and New Yorkers head to red states like Florida and Texas, Democrats are desperate to recoup their population losses to maintain their electoral advantages. Through policies like sanctuary cities — which drain government resources and often invite violence — Democrats have incentivized a boom in illegal immigration to blue areas, which in turn inflates census data in Democrats’ favor.
In advance of Monday’s hearing, several Democrats submitted amendments to gut the bill. Republican Rep. Harriet Hageman submitted an amendment that would "prohibit[] the executive branch from issuing any rule or policy that would circumvent or waive the requirements" of the bill.

What we do know is that Joe Biden lied about Robert Hur raising the issue about his dead son Beau.
The Justice Department previously defended not bringing charges against Biden because he’s a "sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."

The improvement from last year’s trustee projections is due to several factors, according to the report, including higher payroll tax income because of the stronger-than-expected economy and because actual 2023 expenditures were lower than expected last year. Plus, the trustees cited "a policy change correcting for the way medical education expenses are accounted for in Medicare Advantage rates starting in 2024."
SOCIAL SECURITY AND DISABILITY INSURANCE TRUST FUNDS
The exhaustion date for the trust fund for the combined Social Security retirement and disability funds has been pushed back by a year.
Social Security is a popular retirement program that can first start to be claimed at age 62, although benefits increase the longer one waits to claim them, with benefits capping out at a retirement age of 70.
Likewise, the trustees predict that the combined Social Security trust fund and Disability Insurance trust fund will only be enough to pay 83% of scheduled benefits sometime in 2035.
Social Security’s looming insolvency is driven, in part, by declining birthrates. While life expectancy has increased since Social Security’s creation in the New Deal era, the ratio of workers to beneficiaries has declined, further putting pressure on the system.

This is not to say that Leftists are guiltless on this. While historically it was the Left that actually made some efforts to expose intelligence agencies and their crimes in the 1970s, that is now ancient history. The Left in 2024 has rarely met a regime spook it didn’t like. This was made explicit last month when Adam Westbrook and Lindsey Crouse declared in The New York Times that "the Deep State is actually kind of awesome."
The job of opposing these contemptible enemies of freedom at America’s intelligence agencies—especially the FBI and CIA and NSA—falls to the minority of Americans who actually care about law and human rights enough to seek true restraints on regime power. Those of us in this minority must never miss an opportunity to disparage, doubt, question, and generally express loathing for these organizations and for every single agent and employee at these agencies who collects a taxpayer-funded salary.

On May 6, the British Ambassador to Moscow N. Casey was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, to whom a strong protest was expressed in connection with the recent statement by British Foreign Minister D. Cameron in an interview with Reuters about the right of Ukraine to strike Russian territory using British weapons.
N. Casey firmly pointed out that D. Cameron's hostile attack directly contradicts the previously sounded assurances of the British side when transferring long-range cruise missiles to the Kyiv regime, that under no circumstances would they be used on Russian territory. [Jpost] On Sunday, Hamas struck back, punching a chink in the armor of the developments of the war. Four IDF soldiers were killed and at least three others were severely wounded, after Hamas fired 10 rockets at Kerem Shalom along the Israel-Gaza border.
Hamas’s rockets landed only a couple hundred meters from the crossing where humanitarian supplies are transferred into Gaza, one of the few areas where IDF soldiers still have not entered since the start of the invasion in October.
Rafah has become a major focus point of world attention in the past few weeks as Israel awaits the decision of Hamas on an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire plan to include prisoner releases and the return of some of the hostages still held captive in Gaza.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is facing pressure from all sides, last week said the IDF would go into Rafah with or without a deal with Hamas.

But after several days of relative calm in area, four more families are burying their dead sons — four more young men whose promising futures have been extinguished. The families of the four soldiers, St.-Sgt. Ruben Marc Mordechai Assouline, 19, from Ra’anana; St.-Sgt. Ido Testa, 19, from Jerusalem; St.-Sgt. Tal Shavit, 21, from Kfar Giladi; and Sgt. Michael Ruzal, 18, from Rishon Lezion, must now try to restore their shattered lives as best they can.
It is now time for Israel to tell Hamas in no uncertain terms that enough is enough. The longer the war drags on, the more soldiers will be killed, and the more time Israel gives Hamas to prevaricate in talks about a hostage deal, the worse the outcome will be for Israel on all fronts, both militarily and diplomatically.
Entering Rafah will enable Israel to directly confront the terrorist infrastructure that poses an existential threat to its citizens. Hamas, an internationally-designated terrorist organization, has repeatedly demonstrated its intent to wage war against Israel through indiscriminate rocket attacks, suicide bombings, and other acts of violence. By establishing a presence in Rafah, Israel would be able to further degrade Hamas’s ability to launch attacks and disrupt its ability to operate with impunity.
Gaining a foothold in Rafah will also send a powerful message to Hamas and other terrorist groups that Israel will not tolerate acts of aggression and will take decisive action to protect its citizens. Too often, Israel’s measured response to rocket attacks and other provocations has been interpreted by its enemies as weakness and has encouraged them to escalate violence further. By showing resolve, Israel can better deter future attacks and create a more secure environment for its people.

Christopher Wray in particular might have wanted some surefire probable cause to get his agents into Mar-a-Lago where, rumor has it, Mr. Trump kept his own dossier of evidence against the FBI and DOJ officials who concocted the “Crossfire Hurricane” chapter of RussiaGate. Even if you assume that Mr. Trump had multiple copies of the thing, FBI Director Wray — in position since 2017 throughout most of RussiaGate — surely wanted to see what Mr. Trump was holding if it would become necessary for current and former FBI / DOJ officials to defend themselves in court against very serious charges.
You see the desperation, don’t you? And how stupendously amateurish these machinations have been? Planting evidence and then fiddling around with it? I’m waiting for the moment when Judge Cannon summons Jack Smith and announces to his face that she is tossing the case for prosecutorial misconduct. Will she add a criminal referral to that? How will that affect the other case (attempting to overturn the 2020 election) brought against Mr. Trump in Judge Tanya Chutkan’s DC federal district court? Who will prosecute it if Jack Smith can no longer function as Special Counsel? And since the case was contrived in his name — even if Eisen, McCord, Weissmann, and others are really the authors — does that case blow up, too?

[GEO.TV] In a significant development, the Qatari Foreign Ministry has announced that it would dispatch a delegation to Cairo on Tuesday morning. The purpose of this mission is to resume indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel.
In a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said that his country hopes “that the talks will culminate in reaching an agreement for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of prisoners and detainees, and the sustainable flow of humanitarian aid into all areas of the Strip”.

[NYPOST] Public confidence in President Biden’s stewardship of the economy is hovering below each of his two immediate predecessors as faith in politicians on the issue has slipped across the board, according to a new survey.
Just 38% of Americans told Gallup they had a great deal or fair amount of confidence in Biden, 81, to do or recommend the right course of action on the economy.
While that figure is a slight uptick from the 35% who said last year they had confidence in Biden on the economy, it’s still the third-lowest reading in the poll dating back to 2001.
Only George W. Bush scored lower, with just 34% saying they trusted him with the economy in 2008, at the height of the Great Recession.
Confidence in Biden on the economy plummeted from a high of 57% in 2021, his first year in office, to 40% in 2022 before sinking another five points the following year.

[IsraelTimes] Gazans celebrate in streets; families of hostages plead for deal; US studying response; war cabinet says negotiators will meet mediators, but orders IDF to push ahead with Rafah op.
In other words, Hamas continues playing negotiation games while waiting for somebody to force Israel to surrender.
Hamas on Monday evening claimed to accept what it said was an Egyptian and Qatari ceasefire and hostage release proposal, but Israeli officials said the Hamas terms did not meet Israel’s essential requirements.
"After Hamas agreed to the mediators’ proposal for a ceasefire, the ball is now in the court of Israeli occupation, whether it will agree to the ceasefire agreement or obstruct it," a senior Hamas official told AFP, soon after the office of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh had announced its acceptance.
But after receiving the Hamas response, Israeli officials said the terms Hamas claimed to have accepted did not match those that Israel had approved.
Later Monday, the Prime Minister’s Office said the war cabinet had decided unanimously to push ahead with an IDF operation in Rafah "in order to apply military pressure on Hamas, with the goal of making progress on freeing the hostages and the other war aims."
The statement said Hamas’s latest offer was "far from [meeting] Israel’s essential requirements." At the same time, the statement said, Israel would send working-level teams to hold talks with the mediators in order "to exhaust the possibility of achieving an agreement on terms that are acceptable to Israel."
War cabinet minister Benny Gantz, a political rival of Prime Minister Benamin Netanyahu, also said the ceasefire proposal Hamas accepted "is inconsistent with the dialogue [Israel] held with the mediators to this point and has significant gaps [from Israel’s demands]."
Israel’s negotiators were "continuing their work at every moment" and "will leave no stone unturned," Gantz promised. "Every decision will be brought before the war cabinet. There will be no political considerations" in the decision-making, he added (emphasis in original).
The Hamas announcement set off celebrations among Palestinians in Gaza.
In Tel Aviv, families of some hostages and other protesters blocked traffic on the Ayalon Highway, banging drums, blowing on bullhorns and lighting fires, urging the government to accept a deal for the return of their loves ones. Some protesters held a banner referring to Monday’s Holocaust Remembrance Day, reading "Never Again?" There were also protests in and around Jerusalem’s Paris Square, and elsewhere in the country, urging the government to seal the deal.
Meanwhile, the IDF announced that troops were striking and operating against Hamas sites "in a targeted manner" in eastern Rafah.
The announcement came after Palestinian media reported a series of strikes in the area, where the IDF earlier called for civilians to evacuate.
Israel officials quoted by Channel 12 said Israel’s negotiating team could tell that "this is not the same proposal" for a deal that Israel and Egypt had agreed upon 10 days ago, and that served as the basis for the indirect negotiations since then.
"All kinds of clauses" have been inserted, the TV report said.
These new clauses, among other issues, relate to the cardinal questions of if, how, and when the war would end, and what kind of guarantees were being offered to that effect. The report noted that Hamas had been toughening its demands in recent days, and demanding that the war end during the first, 40-day phase of the deal, rather than in the second or third phases.
Israel, for its part, has repeatedly rejected ending the war as part of a hostage deal at all, instead insisting that it will resume fighting once the deal is implemented, in accordance with its twin war goals: returning the hostages and destroying Hamas’s military and governance capacities.
An Israeli official told Reuters that the Hamas announcement appeared to be "a ruse intended to make Israel look like the side refusing a deal," following days of the US saying the ball was in Hamas’s court.
The official said that the proposal Hamas has accepted was a "softened" version of the Egyptian proposal, which includes "far-reaching" conclusions that Israel cannot accept.
Why is Egypt putting forward a proposal Israel already rejected?
But an official briefed on the talks, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said the offer Hamas accepted was effectively the same as one agreed at the end of April by Israel.
And a US official familiar with truce negotiations told Reuters that Netanyahu and the war cabinet "have not appeared to approach the latest phase of negotiations in good faith."
A THREE-PHASE AGREEMENT
Khalil al-Hayya, a deputy to Hamas’s Gaza leader Yahya Sinwar, told Al Jazeera that the proposal that the terror group has agreed to is a three-phased agreement, and that each stage will be 42 days long.
"On the first day of the first phase of the agreement, there is a clear commitment to temporarily stop military operations," he said.
The second phase provides for the announcement of "a permanent cessation of military and hostile operations," he added.
He further said that Egypt is a guarantor of the deal and will not allow the war to return. He also said that the mediators informed Hamas that President Biden is committed to ensuring the implementation of the agreement.
According to a Haaretz report, Hamas sources claim to have received assurances from the US and Qatar, as well as Egypt, that Israel will not resume the war after the three-stage deal is implemented.
What about before?
The war erupted after Hamas’s October 7 massacre, when thousands of terrorists murdered some 1,200 people and seized 252 hostages, mostly civilians, many amid acts of brutality and sexual assault.
In response to the onslaught, Israel launched a wide-scale offensive aiming to eliminate the terror group’s military and governance capabilities in Gaza and free the hostages, 128 of whom remain in captivity.
More than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict, according to unverifiable figures from Hamas health officials that do not distinguish between gunmen and civilians. Israel says it has killed 13,000 Hamas gunmen in Gaza as well as 1,000 terrorists inside Israel on October 7. Some 270 IDF soldiers have been killed in the fighting in Gaza.
US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that Washington had received Hamas’s response to the latest truce proposal and was reviewing it and discussing it with the Qatari and Egyptian mediators. CIA director Bill Burns is in the region "working on this in real time," Miller added. Miller said a deal was "absolutely achievable."
"We want to get these hostages out, we want to get a ceasefire in place for six weeks, we want to increase humanitarian assistance," White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said, adding that reaching an agreement would be the "absolute best outcome".

The Hamas announcement came directly after Netanyahu spoke with US President Joe Biden on the phone, with a considerable part of the call devoted to the efforts to reach a truce-for-hostages deal.
Leaders around the Arab world were quick to respond to the Iran-backed terror group’s announcement, with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas calling on the international community to pressure Israel to commit to a ceasefire in Gaza, according to Palestinian official news agency WAFA.
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said he was closely following positive developments in the negotiations to reach a "comprehensive truce" in Gaza, and called on all parties to exert more effort to reach a deal.
Both Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that they had spoken to Qatar-based Haniyeh on the phone on Monday regarding the deal.
The Iranian foreign minister said on social media platform X that Haniyeh had assured him, "We are sincere in our intentions," while Erdogan posted, "During the call, in which I stated that I found it positive for Hamas to take such a decision with Turkey’s suggestion, we emphasized that Israel must take a step for a lasting ceasefire too."
On the streets of Gaza, crowds of Palestinians could be seen cheering and firing guns in the air after Hamas claimed to have accepted the ceasefire proposal from mediators Egypt and Qatar. People could be seen crying tears of happiness, chanting "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest") and shooting in the air in celebration of the news, according to an AFP correspondent.
