France to offer all 18 to 25-year-olds free fertility checks to combat falling birth rates
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] France, a nation so famous for its lovers that it has a kiss named after it, needs help making babies.

That's according to President Emmanuel Macron, who has announced a sweeping series of measures to address what he called a 'scourge' of infertility in his country.

These include an offer of a free 'fertility check-up' to all 18 to 25-year-olds, both male and female.

In an interview with magazine Elle, he also mentioned a 'campaign' to help women preserve their fertility if they want to have children later in life, like egg freezing, as well as a national research project into infertility.

Mr Macron's campaign, which he hinted at in January when he called for a 'demographic rearmament', comes despite France having one of the highest birth rates in Western Europe.

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a sweeping series of measures to address what he called a 'scourge' of infertility in his country
Mr Macron hinted people would be reimbursed by state health insurance, so they could get a 'establish a complete assessment'.

This is thought to include semen analysis and ovarian reserve.

He said: 'We are going to organise campaigns in favour of oocyte self-preservation for women who want to have children later in life.'

France's fertility rate, a national measure of the average number of live births per woman, stands at 1.8, significantly above the UK's which sits at 1.5, according to the latest UN-backed data.

Both figures are below what scientists call the 'fertility replacement level' of 2.1 – the amount needed for a population to replace one generation with the next.

Mr Macron hasn't set a specific goal for his plan to boost France's birth rates, instead stating he wanted the nation to have a 'dynamic birth rate'.

He also told Elle that if French people were able to have as many children as they wanted, the nation's birth rate would 2.3, but he didn't state this was the objective of his campaign.

France's fertility rate of 1.8 is the lowest the country has recorded since shortly after the end of WWII.

In 1950 the figure stood at an average of three live births per woman.

Experts, and even celebrities like Elon Musk, have been warning about the global threat of underpopulation for years.

Earlier this year scientists warned 75 per cent of countries would face this demographic problem by 2050.

They warned the problem is particularly dire in developed Western nations and countries like the UK could become reliant on immigration to keep their societies and economies running.

Three in four countries face the threat of 'underpopulation' by 2050 because of the world's plummeting birth rates, shock research warned today.

By 2100 this could rise to 97 per cent of all nations, in what experts have described as a 'staggering social change'.

Powerhouses such as Britain and the US will have to become reliant on immigration to avoid the 'immense' consequences the situation threatens, the study in the respected medical journal The Lancet concluded.
Fecundity follows social conditions. I can’t imagine France’s birth rate — or England’s, or anywhere else in Europe’s — would improve until law and order, on one hand, and a dynamic economy, on the other are restored to something like what was seen during Edwardian times. What the Europeans would call liberal, and we Americans call libertarian, mostly meaning small government.

Florida crowned best in the US for education - thanks to high graduation rates and low tuition fees
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Americans living a red state are receiving the best education even though the governor has been criticized for using the classroom for his cultural war.

Florida has topped the chart for the second year in a row, as Governor Ron DeSantis has redesigning the educational system by banning discussions about sexuality and gender and letting parents decide what materials are used.

While the laws have sparked criticism, a new report has determined that Florida performs best in college readiness among children in pre-Kindergarten (pre-K) through 12th grade and state universities have a 74 percent graduation rate.
In my day New York State was number 1, deliberately outspending everyone else to achieve it. Now they can’t afford to, even if they were willing to allow such inequality of outcome.
However, the state fell short in math and reading scores among students in elementary school.

The other states that followed Florida were Utah, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Colorado.

Silicon Valley insider reveals damning truth about Big Tech workers
'Anyone who works in a 10,000+ person or larger white-collar job company knows that a bunch of the people can probably be let go tomorrow and the company wouldn't really feel the difference, maybe it'd even improve with less people inserting themselves into things,' he said.

He went on to explain how the overflow of workers who are not contributing to the company is actually detracting from the workforce's retirement programs.

'Google is an amazing example of this. I don't think it's crazy to believe that half the white-collar staff at Google probably does no real work,' he said.

'The company has spent billions and billions of dollars per year on projects that go nowhere for over a decade, and all that money could have been returned to shareholders who have retirement accounts. So real people actually lose out when BS jobs exist.'

But Google, with its extensive overhead, has been able to quickly adapt to technological advancements, and even mimic them.

As AI chatbots grew in popularity in 2023, Google hopped on the bandwagon, merging its chatbot, Bard, with their new service, Gemini - an AI model similar to ChatGPT that responds to questions with a human-like cadence.

Although Ulevitch has not been impressed by Google's projects, the shares of their parent company, Alphabet, have gone up 22% from last year and 57% in the past 12 months.

A consequence of Ulevitch's theory of 'BS jobs' is that the U.S. is struggling to develop the workforce needed to manufacture goods for its own future industry.

'We have outsourced much of their work overseas, increasingly to countries we are getting less and less friendly with (China) but also because we've just made those jobs seem less desirable,' he said.

However, while Ulevitch acknowledges the potential risks of relying on economic competitors, he also sees this as an opportunity for innovative startups to step in and fill the manufacturing void.

The 'tech wreck' sweeping Silicon Valley has wiped out tens of thousands of jobs paying a combined $12 billion annually, an analysis of the largest recent cuts shows.

Recently Google laid off around 200 of its core team in California and will fill some of the positions in India and Mexico as tech companies in Silicon Valley continue to shed employees en masse.

FBI Confirms It's Restarting Online Censorship Efforts Ahead Of 2024 Election
[Federalist] These people need to lose their jobs, pensions, and be jailed
On Monday, Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told reporters that federal agencies such as the FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) restarted discussions with Big Tech platforms. According to NextGov/FCW, this coordination will focus on "removing disinformation on their sites as the November presidential election nears." Warner claimed these talks resumed in March, around the same time oral arguments in Murthy v. Missouri — which centers on the feds’ censorship efforts — were heard before the U.S. Supreme Court.

When pressed on the validity of Warner’s remarks, an FBI representative confirmed to The Federalist that the agency has resumed communications with social media companies ahead of the 2024 election.

"The FBI remains committed to combatting foreign malign influence operations, including in connection with our elections. That effort includes sharing specific foreign threat information with state and local election officials and private sector companies when appropriate and rigorously consistent with the law," the representative claimed. "In coordination with the Department of Justice, the FBI recently implemented procedures to facilitate sharing information about foreign malign influence with social media companies in a way that reinforces that private companies are free to decide on their own whether and how to take action on that information."

CISA External Affairs Specialist Tess Hyre declined The Federalist’s request for comment on whether the agency has resumed discussions with social media companies to combat what it claims to be "disinformation," but she said that CISA Director Jen Easterly will be participating in an "Election Security" hearing in "the coming weeks."

Neither the FBI nor CISA responded when pressed on when they restarted communications with social media companies on efforts to remove posts containing so-called "disinformation" from their platforms. The FBI and CISA did not identify the specific companies they’re working with on such efforts. Neither agency provided an answer when questioned on how they determine what constitutes "disinformation" or what other federal agencies they are collaborating with in these efforts to have "disinformation" removed from social media platforms.

The issue of government-compelled censorship is front and center in Murthy v. Missouri, a case before SCOTUS focused on allegations from Missouri and Louisiana that the federal government’s pressuring of social media companies to censor free speech online constitutes a violation of the First Amendment. U.S. District Court Judge Terry Doughty issued a preliminary injunction in July 2023 barring federal agencies from colluding with Big Tech to censor posts they don’t like. In his ruling, Doughty wrote, "If the allegations made by Plaintiffs are true, the present case arguably involves the most massive attack against free speech in United States’ history."

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals subsequently upheld Doughty’s injunction in September. While the initial ruling did not pertain to CISA — often referred to by its critics as the “nerve center” of the federal government’s censorship operations — the court later issued a corrected ruling to prevent CISA from colluding with Big Tech to squash free speech online. The U.S. Supreme Court, however, lifted the Fifth Circuit’s injunction in October, effectively allowing the federal government’s censorship operations to resume while it considered the merits of the case.

SCOTUS is expected to issue a final ruling on the merits of Murthy v. Missouri this summer.

Largely ignored by legacy media, the collusion between the federal government and Big Tech to silence online speech the feds do not approve of is extensive and unprecedented. For example, the Biden administration pressured social media companies to censor Covid-related posts they deemed to be “misinformation” shortly after coming into power, even if such posts contained information that is factually true.

Emails unearthed in Murthy v. Missouri indicate health agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) held regular “misinfo/debunking meeting[s]” with Facebook to discuss the latter’s censorship efforts.

But these efforts are just one facet of the government’s censorship operations. CISA regularly facilitated meetings “between Big Tech companies, and national security and law enforcement agencies to address ‘mis-, dis-, and mal-information’ on social media platforms.”

Leading up to the 2020 election, for instance, the agency upped its censorship efforts by flagging posts for Big Tech companies it claimed were worthy of being censored, some of which called into question the security of voting practices such as mass, unsupervised mail-in voting. This was done despite CISA privately acknowledging the risks associated with such practices.

Neither the FBI nor CISA responded to The Federalist’s request for comment on whether social media posts highlighting the risks of mail-in voting would be flagged as “disinformation.”

An interim report released by House Republicans in November revealed that CISA’s censorship enterprise was more extensive than previously known. According to that analysis, CISA — along with the State Department’s Global Engagement Center (GEC) — colluded with Stanford University to pressure Big Tech companies into censoring what they claimed to be “disinformation” during the 2020 election.

At the heart of this operation was the Election Integrity Partnership (EIP), “a consortium of ‘disinformation’ academics” spearheaded by the Stanford Internet Observatory that coordinated with DHS and GEC “to monitor and censor Americans’ online speech” ahead of the 2020 contest.

Created “at the request” of CISA, EIP allowed federal officials to “launder [their] censorship activities in hopes of bypassing both the First Amendment and public scrutiny.” As documented in the interim report, this operation attempted to censor “true information, jokes and satire, and political opinions” and submitted flagged posts from prominent conservative figures to Big Tech companies for censorship. Among those targeted were The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway and Sean Davis.

The feds also played a significant role in pressuring social media companies to censor the New York Post’s bombshell report on the Biden family business dealings ahead of the 2020 election.

Georgia oversight panel ruminates on 2020 election hiccups as 2024 showdowns loom
[Georgia Recorder] The Georgia Election Board voted Tuesday to reprimand Fulton County and appoint an independent monitor for the 2024 election for violating state law while conducting a recount of the 2020 presidential election.

In a 2-1 vote on the panel that oversees how counties conduct elections, members agreed to admonish Fulton County and order a monitor for this year’s campaigns. That allows the county to avoid paying a fine or having the attorney general investigate the double-counting of 3,075 ballots and other allegations of irregularities during the 2020 presidential recount. Georgia election officials determined mistakes in 2020 by county election workers would not have changed the outcome.

Georgia Secretary of State investigators said they are unable to determine how many of the invalid ballots were included in the results used to certify the 2020 election. Democrat Joe Biden narrowly defeated GOP nominee Donald Trump by nearly 12,000 votes.

State officials reported that there were 3,075 duplicate ballot images, but they were unable to determine how many of the ones cast were tabulated in the recount. The court case revolves around apparent discrepancies between the initial recount totals in November 2020 and the corrected totals released a day later by Fulton County.

According to Fulton’s initial results, Trump received 137,240 votes out of 524,659, while Biden received 381,144. Following a recount requested by Trump’s lawyers, the final results led to the former president gaining seven additional votes and Biden losing 932.

In January 2021, Fulton officials acknowledged failures to properly back up data to servers during the recount. A Fulton election official told the state election officials that the discrepancy likely resulted from the mishandling of ballot batches and that changes have since been made to separate ballots once they’re scanned.

Election board member Ed Lindsey Jr. offered a motion Tuesday to reprimand Fulton and appoint an independent monitor who could be in place prior to the November general election.

If the state election and Fulton officials fail to agree on who to hire as the election monitor, he said, then he would recommend in July that the board ask the state attorney general to take the case.

"My purpose here is not to let it ride but to move this matter forward so that we can have some assurance regarding the 2024 election," said Lindsey, a Republican and former lawmaker who was appointed to the state election board by the Georgia House of Representatives in January 2022.

Senior FBI Official Reportedly Instructed Agents To Utilize Warrantless Wiretap Tool Inside America
[DC] A senior official in the FBI reportedly advised agents to use its warrantless surveillance authorities against targets on U.S. soil, according to an internal email obtained by WIRED.

In April, FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate urged subordinates to find ways to use the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act’s (FISA) Section 702 authority, which allows for warrantless surveillance under certain conditions, against "U.S. persons," according to WIRED, which obtained the internal email. While the FBI and other proponents of Section 702 have described the law as an essential tool for national security, the bureau controversially used the espionage tool to target former President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, a sitting member of Congress and thousands of Americans.

"To continue to demonstrate why tools like this are essential to our mission, we need to use them, while also holding ourselves accountable for doing so properly and in compliance with legal requirements," Abbate wrote in the email, according to WIRED. "I urge everyone to continue to look for ways to appropriately use U.S. person queries to advance the mission, with the added confidence that this new pre-approval requirement will help ensure that those queries are fully compliant with the law."

Section 702 allows the FBI to request that American companies allow the bureau to access various communications without a search warrant, according to WIRED. However, the law requires that at least one of the targets is a foreigner who is reasonably thought to be somewhere other than the U.S.

"Today’s reporting in Wired magazine is a complete misrepresentation of the FBI Deputy Director’s email to the FBI workforce. Their allegation that the FBI instructed its employees to violate the law or FBI policies is categorically false and insulting," a spokesperson for the FBI told the Daily Caller News Foundation. "The email emphasized Congress’ recognition of the vital importance of FISA Section 702 to protect the American people and was sent to ensure that FBI personnel were immediately aware of, and in compliance with, the privacy enhancing changes the law has put in place."

In the 2016 election, the FBI spied on the Trump campaign using FISA, basing its application on information contained in the since-debunked Steele Dossier. After its role in the 2016 elections and subsequent allegations of abuse of the tool, many lawmakers opposed reauthorizing Section 702 when the time came to do so earlier this spring, but Congress ultimately reauthorized the program on April 20, the same day that Abbate sent the email in question.

The FBI first began disclosing statistics about its use of the surveillance tool in 2021, a year in which the bureau claims to have searched U.S. phone numbers or email accounts 2.9 million times, according to WIRED. Since 2021, the FBI has changed how it counts Section 702 searches, and it now discloses the total number of unique searches; for example, five distinct searches of the same phone number would count only as one search.

#2  It appears that Abbate was part of the FBI cover-up in Libya, and it was there that he made his bones.
Mr. Abbate returned to the Counterterrorism Division in 2009 as an assistant section chief, providing oversight of U.S.-based international terrorism investigations. The next year, he moved to the Los Angeles Field Office as the assistant special agent in charge of counterterrorism matters. He was promoted in 2011 to section chief in the Counterterrorism Division, providing oversight of international terrorism and counterterrorism operations outside the USA. He was appointed special agent in charge of the Counterterrorism Division of the Washington Field Office in 2012. During this time, he also served as the FBI on-scene commander in Libya.
In 2013, Mr. Abbate was promoted to special agent in charge of the Detroit....

Child Molester Found Dead in San Diego Jail Cell
[SlayNews] A 38-year-old man, who had been arrested on several counts of molesting young children, has been found dead in a San Diego jail cell, according to authorities.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office revealed that deputies found Majid Arif Almajid unresponsive in his bunk.

His body was found in a cell at the George Bailey Detention Facility at around 11:15 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies and jail medical staff attempted to revive Almajid, as did CAL FIRE paramedics, officials said.

However, it was determined that Almajid had died.

[Twitter] FULTON Co. GA. after a Georgia State Elections Board level audit was finally conducted. It has Fulton Co. finally admitting it can't find 380,761 voter ballot images. Which is officially about 72.5+/-% of the total claimed 524,659 votes cast on Nov 3rd, 2020 for Fulton Co. Ga.

Yes! This is the same Ga. County where Trump is being politically dragged through a Politically ran the court trial by Fulton Co. DA Willis. All because President Trump, on learning of the massive voter fraud there, asked GA to investigate the massive voter fraud.

BTW: Look at the Nov. 20th, 2020 Fulton Co. to see the impact of losing 380,761 votes.

FBI Admits to Bringing Props to Stage Crime Scene Photos at Mar-a-Lago
[AG] In a bombshell admission by the prosecutors working for Special Counsel Jack Smith, it has been revealed that the FBI brought fake props to its raid of Mar-a-Lago in order to stage the "crime scene" photos which were then widely publicized.

As reported by the Daily Caller, lead Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutor Jay Bratt admitted in a new court filing that the cover sheets reading "Top Secret" were brought on the raid by the FBI and placed over the tops of the documents before they were photographed. This would constitute tampering with evidence, as well as staging fake photos to generate public outrage as if the documents possessed by President Trump were clearly marked as confidential.

"[If] the investigative team found a document with classification markings, it removed the document, segregated it, and replaced it with a placeholder sheet," Bratt confessed in a new filing. "The investigative team used classified cover sheets for that purpose."

In addition, both the Special Counsel’s team and the defense team for President Trump have confirmed that the documents that were initially seized have since become mixed up and are now out of order, despite prior claims by the prosecution that they were preserved exactly as they had been found.

"Following defense counsel’s review of the physical boxes...and the documents produced in classified discovery, defense counsel has learned that the cross-reference provided by the Special Counsel’s Office does not contain accurate information," wrote Waltine Nauta, defense attorney for President Trump.
Nauta was Trump's aide, not Atty

Commando dies after being injured during West Bank operation
[IsraelTimes] Chief Inspector Yitav Lev Halevi, a commander in elite Yamam unit, was critically hurt in battle with gunmen near Tulkarem

A top Border Police officer critically injured during a battle with Paleostinian button men during a raid in the West Bank over the weekend succumbed to his wounds on Tuesday, authorities said.

He was named by police as Chief Inspector Yitav Lev Halevi, 28, a commander in the elite Yamam counter-terrorism unit.

Halevi was maimed during an operation in the West Bank town of Dayr al-Ghusun, near Tulkarem, on May 4.

Halevi was taken to Beilinson Medical Center in Petah Tikva, where he was listed at death's door.

"After four days in which the medical teams at Beilinson fought for the life of the Yamam soldier, who arrived at the hospital with a critical head injury, this morning the doctors had no choice but to declare [his] death," the hospital said.

Halevi is the son of former Jerusalem District chief Deputy Commissioner (ret.) Yoram Halevi.

Five Paleostinian button men, members of a Hamas
...the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
cell responsible for the murder of an Israeli and the injury of others in recent terror attacks in the West Bank, were killed amid the raid carried out by Border Police and the Israel Defense Forces.

The terror cell was planning additional attacks including bombings, the military said at the time.

After coming under fire from the building, troops carried out a tactic known as "pressure cooker" that involves escalating the volume of fire directed at a building to force suspects to come out.

Armored bulldozers demolished part of the building, troops fired several shoulder-launched missiles at the structure, and a Hermes 450 drone carried out two Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s, according to the IDF.

Troops also seized several weapons amid the raid, the military added.

According to the military, the holy warriors had carried out a deadly shooting attack near the West Bank town of Bayt Lid on November 2, killing off-duty IDF reservist Sgt. First Class (res.) Elhanan Klein.

In another attack, on April 7, members of the cell carried out a shooting attack and attempted boom-mobileing on the Route 55 highway, wounding two Israelis, including an off-duty soldier on a bus.

Violence in the West Bank, already on the rise before October 7 — when thousands of Hamas-led holy warriors stormed southern Israel to kill nearly 1,200 people and abduct 252 — has escalated throughout the war sparked by the onslaught, with frequent army raids on terror groups, deadly Paleostinian attacks, and rampages by Jewish settlers in Paleostinian villages, at times also deadly.

Since October 7, troops have arrested some 4,000 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, including more than 1,700 affiliated with Hamas, the IDF has said.

According to the PA health ministry, more than 490 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed in that time. The IDF says the vast majority of them were button men killed amid raids or holy warriors carrying out attacks.

Cops clear anti-Israel encampment, arrest 33 at DC campus as mayor's hearing canceled; 2600 arrested on 50 campuses thus far
[IsraelTimes] Officials made decision to clear tents after demonstrators ’gathered improvised weapons’ and were ’casing’ school buildings with possible intention of occupying them

Police using pepper spray cleared an anti-Israel tent encampment at George Washington University and arrested 33 demonstrators early Wednesday, hours after dozens marched to the home of the school’s president as city officials prepared to appear before Congress on the protest’s handling.

District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith were called to testify Wednesday afternoon at the Republican-led House Oversight and Accountability Committee, but the hearing was canceled after the arrests. The mayor said she spoke with Rep. James Comer, chairman of the House panel, on Wednesday morning and "he expressed his interest in making sure the city and the chief can focus on this ongoing operation" and pulled the hearing.

After the crackdown, Bowser told news hounds that she and the police made the decision to clear the camp based on shifting information about increased threats to public safety. "Our response to demonstrations is always rooted in public safety and responsibility," she said.

Smith added that there were signs that "the protest was becoming more volatile and less stable." Among them were indications that protesters had "gathered improvised weapons" and were "casing" university buildings with the possible intention of occupying them, said Jeffery Carroll, the police department’s executive assistant chief.

Tensions have ratcheted up in standoffs with far-left protesters of the Israel-Hamas
...a regional Iranian catspaw,...
war on campuses across the United States and increasingly in Europe. Some colleges cracked down immediately; others have tolerated the demonstrations. Some have begun to lose patience and have called in police over concerns about disruptions to campus life and safety.

DC police said officers moved to disperse demonstrators at George Washington because "there has been a gradual escalation in the volatility of the protest." They said arrests included ones for the assault on a police officer and unlawful entry. They confirmed they used pepper spray outside the encampment against protesters who were trying to break police lines and enter.

George Washington had warned of possible suspensions for continuing the camp on University Yard. Protesters carrying signs reading "Free Paleostine" and "Hands off Rafah" also marched to school President Ellen Granberg’s home Tuesday night.

The school said in a statement: "While the university is committed to protecting students’ rights to free expression, the encampment had evolved into an unlawful activity, with participants in direct violation of multiple university policies and city regulations."

A week ago, the George Washington encampment was host to a somewhat chaotic visit from several Republican members of the House oversight panel who criticized the protests and condemned Bowser’s refusal at that point to send in police.

Bowser on Monday confirmed the city and police department declined the university’s request to intervene. "We did not have any violence to interrupt on the GW campus," she said then.

But in the early hours of Wednesday, hundreds of Metropolitan Police Department officers descended on the scene, reported The GW Hatchet, the university’s student newspaper.

At least two officers deployed pepper spray on protesters, who then set up an impromptu medical area at a market near the campus, the paper said. Organizers ran to a convenience store to buy water to rinse their eyes.

Since April 18, just over 2,600 people have been arrested on 50 campuses, figures based on AP reporting and statements from universities and law enforcement agencies after this latest pro-Paleostinian movement was launched by a protest at Columbia University in New York. Many, if not the majority, of the arrests are believed to be non-students as bully boy, outside agitators have joined the campus protests.

Another anti-Israel encampment was cleared by officers in riot gear at the University of reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
on Tuesday after administrators who had initially adopted a permissive approach said the protesters had crossed a line, increasing safety concerns. Hundreds of protesters had gathered for at least eight days until administrators warned them Friday to leave or face removal.

"The university remains a place where dissenting voices have many avenues to express themselves, but we cannot enable an environment where the expression of some dominates and disrupts the healthy functioning of the community for the rest," University of Chicago President Paul Alivisatos wrote.

Other schools are letting protesters hold rallies and organize their encampments as they see fit.

The president of Wesleyan University, a liberal arts school in Connecticut, has commended the on-campus demonstrations, which have included a tent encampment, as an act of political expression. The camp there has grown from about 20 tents a week ago to more than 100.

"The protesters’ cause is important — bringing attention to the killing of innocent people," university President Michael Roth wrote to the campus community Thursday. "And we continue to make space for them to do so, as long as that space is not disruptive to campus operations."

The Rhode Island School of Design’s president, Crystal Williams, spent more than five hours with protesters discussing their demands after students started occupying a building Monday.

On Tuesday the school announced it was relocating classes from the building, which was covered with posters reading "Free Paleostine" and "Let Gazoo

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response. In October of 2023 Gazooks belonging to Hamas invaded Israel, killed over a thousand people, raped a bunch of women. Then they bitched and moaned about genocide when their butts handed to them in the entirely justified retaliation.
Live."

Some colleges have tried tactics from appeasement to threats of disciplinary action to clear the way for commencements.

Police moved in Tuesday night to break up an encampment at the University of Massachusetts. Video from the scene in Amherst showed an hours-long operation as dozens of coppers in riot gear systematically tearing down tents and taking protesters into custody. The operation continued into early Wednesday.

Police said about 130 people were arrested there Tuesday night after protesters refused orders to disperse.

Further details on the charges and the schedule for arraignments will be forthcoming. Early this morning, UMass Police said 109 people had been booked and charges were pending for approximately 25 other individuals.

UMass Chancellor Javier Reyes said he ordered the sweep after discussions over a wide range of demands failed to yield an agreement to dismantle the encampment and engage in "constructive discussions."

The demonstrators have been calling on their universities to end all partnerships with Israeli academia and to cut all financial ties with companies linked to Israel — a nearly impossible goal given that most colleges have complicated portfolios that include investments in companies that might not be Israeli-based themselves but do have ties with Israel such as Google, Microsoft and the S&P stock exchange.

and Israeli troops on Rafah's outskirts.

Around half of Gaza's 2.3 million people have been crowded into Rafah after fleeing other parts of the enclave during seven months of war.

The view from Israel via the Times of Israel:
Tens of thousands flee Rafah, leaving parts of city looking like ‘ghost town’
[IsraelTimes] As battles raged on the outskirts of Rafah on Wednesday with Israeli forces closing in, Paleostinians were on the move again, abandoning neighborhoods of the southern Gazoo
Islamic Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. Then they bitched and moaned about genocide when their butts handed to them in the entirely justified retaliation.
city and leaving them as ghost towns.

Israel has threatened a major assault on Rafah to defeat four of Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
’s six remaining battalions holed up there, but more than a million people are sheltering in the city, prompting warnings from the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
of a humanitarian catastrophe.

Israeli forces tasked with destroying the terror group, on Tuesday seized the main border crossing between Gaza and Egypt in Rafah, cutting off a vital route for aid into the enclave, where malnutrition is widespread.

Israel is continuing to bring in aid through several crossings, while the US has completed the construction of a pier that will allow large amounts of aid to be transferred into the Strip.

Israel’s military said it was conducting a limited operation in Rafah to kill snuffies and dismantle infrastructure used by Hamas, which runs Gaza. It told civilians to go to an "expanded humanitarian zone" near Khan Younis, north of Rafah.

Three residents of Rafah told Rooters by phone that tens of thousands of people have fled the city, which was seen as the last refuge for Paleostinians who have been displaced many times over as Israeli Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s pulverized Gaza.

People in the Jneina, al-Shawka, al-Salam and other neighborhoods were ordered by the Israeli army to leave in anticipation of an assault. Some 1.4 million people have been sheltering in Rafah, raising the prospect of major casualties.

"Some streets look like a ghost town now," said Aref, 35, who asked not to be named.

"We don’t fear death and martyrdom but we have kids to care for and live for another day when this war ends and we rebuild the city," he told Rooters via a chat app.

The war erupted on October 7 when Hamas snuffies rampaged through southern communities, murdering 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 253 hostages back to the enclave.

The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says more than 34,000 people in the Strip have been killed in the fighting so far, a figure that cannot be independently verified and includes some 13,000 Hamas button men Israel says it has killed in battle. Israel also says it killed some 1,000 snuffies inside Israel on October 7. Almost 270 IDF soldiers have been killed in the IDF’s Gaza offensive.

WARNINGS TO LEAVE
Many Rafah residents said they received warnings over their phones, and planes dropped leaflets.
"We've been trying to reach you over your car's extended warranty. Leave now."
Juliette Touma, director of communications of the UN Paleostinian refugee agency UNRWA, estimated that around 10,000 Paleostinians had left Rafah since Monday.

The Hamas-run Gaza government media office put the number of people fleeing at tens of thousands and warned against a "massacre."

Residents said tanks, which had moved in to take control of the Rafah border crossing, had not entered built-up areas of the city and shootouts were still outside the city limits.

Suleiman Abu Kweik and his family are being displaced for the fourth time.

"Our homes have been destroyed. In Gaza [City] our house... they destroyed it. It was shelled. We went to Khan Younis. When they threatened Khan Younis, we went to Rafah," he said.

Hamas said its operatives were battling Israeli forces in the east of Rafah. Lines of smoke from airstrikes and tank shelling rose from places east of the city, residents said.

Police arrest several lawyers protesting outside Lahore High Court
[GEO.TV] Police arrested several lawyers as their protest at the GPO Chowk near Lahore High Court intensified on Wednesday.

The lawyers are demonstrating against the division of civil courts and terrorism cases against their colleagues.

The Lahore High Court Bar Association has denied conducting negotiations with the police.

On the other hand, lawyers have kicked out petitioners from the courtroom of Justice Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu.

Speaking with Geo News, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran said the police will continue to show restraint, but will take action according to the law if there is a violation from the lawyers.

"The police are showing maximum patience and restraint," he said, adding that the police only used tear gas after lawyers pelted stones at them.

"One of our SHO and one constable has been injured," he said.

The DIG Operations said there are at least 2,000 personnel for the security of the high court.

Ukrainian ‘fighters against disinformation’ trying to ban popular social network that destroys state propaganda
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Denis Davydov

[REGNUM] The Ukrainian “Center for Countering Disinformation” under the National Security and Defense Council declared a wave of viral videos on TikTok with happy “cheers” from serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine enjoying life abroad as Russian technology. True, supported by “useful idiots” - real Ukrainians who took up the initiative for the sake of hype. But this is another argument in favor of the fact that the social network needs to be, if not blocked, then carefully monitored. This is what Ukraine is actively doing, along with attempts to limit access to Telegram and X (formerly Twitter). Because all these sources of information are a direct threat to the information monopoly of the political regime, for which it is important to keep the agenda within strict limits. For example, there should be no doubt about the legitimacy of Zelensky, who, according to the law, May 20, 2024 is his last official working day.

12 Must-See Southern Waterfalls for Your Bucket List
Gorgeous!
[Garden & Gun] "Like snowflakes, no two waterfalls are alike," says Dr. Gregory Plumb, a retired professor of cartography and geology, whose third book on the subject, Waterfall Atlas of the United States, is set to hit shelves September 1. "There’s a huge variety of forms. Some are powerful, others graceful." The Oklahoma-based writer was a child when he bought his first atlas after a visit to Michigan’s Tahquamenon Falls and started mapping out and researching his own waterfall bucket list, which, after grad school, culminated in a professional side gig enabling others to seek out and enjoy these wet and wild spaces. He published a Waterfall Lover’s Guide to the Pacific Northwest and Waterfalls of Tennessee before compiling this latest comprehensive tome.

And because the Southern summer heat means we need little to no excuse to seek out the water, even if just to feel a chilly mist on our faces for a few minutes, we turned to Plumb to help us create a Southern waterfall primer. The resulting list features twelve of his favorite block, plunge, horsetail, punchbowl, and multi-step waterfalls around the region, from heavy-hitting cataracts to under-the-radar stunners. Before you hit the trail, though, Plumb advises checking with local guides and outfitters to check flow rates, as water volume can fluctuate throughout the year.

Trump to send US special forces hit squads to Mexico to assassinate drug cartel leaders in second term, according to sources
[Mail] Donald Trump is considering sending special operations teams into Mexico to kill the heads of drug cartels if he retakes the White House in November, according to a new report citing three sources familiar with his thinking.
Back when he was president the first time, he considered a lot, too. It was dreadfully amusing to watch the hysterics that stirred up.
During his four years in office he pondered whether it would be possible to launch missile strikes on cartel operations.
See?
And, with the threat of drugs smuggled across the southern border only increasing since then, he is now publicly campaigning on a platform that includes using covert means to hurt the gangs responsible.

Trump is said to be modeling his thinking on the the successful 2019 military raid that he ordered to kill ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

But the approach would come with the risks of angering the Mexican government.

Kolomoisky faces life imprisonment in case of contract murder
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Ukrainian oligarch Igor Kolomoisky (an individual included in the list of terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation), who was charged with organizing a contract killing, may be sentenced to life imprisonment. A message about this was published on May 8 in the Telegram channel of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

The SBU noted that a “well-known Ukrainian businessman,” already under arrest on suspicion of committing other crimes, was involved in organizing the contract killing of the director of a law firm in 2003.

“Based on new investigation materials, he faces life imprisonment,” the statement says.

The lawyer refused to participate in the transaction with the assets of the metallurgical plant, and the defendant, who demanded to annul the decision of the general meeting of shareholders of the enterprise, decided to take revenge on him. The businessman instructed one of the criminal groups to deal with the lawyer.

Gang members attacked the lawyer as he was leaving a store in Feodosia, beat him with a metal rod and stabbed him several times. The lawyer survived - the doctors managed to help him in time. Four attackers were detained and sentenced to imprisonment.

Edition “Country. ua" notes that Kolomoisky intended to eliminate lawyer Sergei Karpenko, and the company in question was the Zaporozhye Dneprospetsstal.

As Regnum reported earlier, the Ukrainian police emphasized that “irrefutable evidence has now emerged confirming the identity of the orderer” of the lawyer’s murder.

Kolomoisky was detained on September 2, 2023 and charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: fraud, as well as legalization and laundering of property obtained by criminal means. The court placed the oligarch in custody. A few days later, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine accused Kolomoisky and five other people associated with Privatbank of embezzling more than 9.2 billion hryvnia (more than $249 million) that belonged to the financial organization.

The second charge was followed by a third - of gaining access to funds and taking possession of someone else's property through abuse of official position. According to investigators, in 2013 and 2014, Kolomoisky, who was the founder and shareholder of the bank, embezzled 5.8 billion hryvnia, which then corresponded to $700 million.

Peskov doubts the statements of the SBU about the alleged assassination attempt on Zelensky
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The information coming from the Security Service of Ukraine can hardly be perceived as truthful, press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov told reporters on May 8.

This is how he responded to a request to comment on reports from the SBU about the detention of high-ranking employees of the State Security Department of Ukraine, who allegedly planned an assassination attempt on a number of leading officials of the country, including the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, on instructions from the Russian special services.

“I can’t comment at all. In general, as you understand, the information coming from the SBU can hardly be perceived as truthful, so I can’t say anything,” the presidential press secretary noted.

As Regnum reported, on May 7, the SBU announced the detention of an employee of the state security department, Colonel Andrei Guk, and one of his colleagues on suspicion of treason.

Together with three other defendants in the same criminal case, the detainees allegedly prepared “on instructions from the Russian special services” an assassination attempt on Zelensky, the head of the SBU Vasily Malyuk, the head of the intelligence department Kirill Budanov (an individual included in the list of terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation) and other officials, it was noted in a message from the SBU.

Russia does not need the death of Zelensky, he is much more useful alive, because otherwise he will not be able to talk about the crimes of the Kiev regime, to which the Western ruling circles are related, leading researcher at the Institute of CIS Countries, political scientist Alexander Dudchak said earlier in an interview with Regnum. For the West, Zelensky is more profitable in the role of a “sacred victim,” the expert emphasized.

US calls on Houthis to stop attacking ships
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The Americans are sending “tempting offers” to the Houthi rebels so that they stop attacking merchant ships in the Red Sea, the head of the Houthi Supreme Political Council, Mahdi al-Mashat, said on the Yemeni Al-Masirah TV channel during a military parade.
What, besides abject surrender, is likely to tempt religious fanatics who believe they’re winning?
“The US is being humiliated, seeking favor through intermediaries... We are being seriously tempted to stop supporting the Gaza Strip, but we reject their proposals because they contradict our religion, values and principles,” al-Mashat said.
QED.
He added that Washington failed in the military confrontation, and now the US authorities are trying to achieve their goals by applying “a different policy.”

As Regnum reported, on April 29, the military representative of the Houthi Ansar Allah movement, Yahya Saria, announced an attack on two US Navy destroyers and the bulk carrier Cyclades in the Red Sea, as well as the container ship MSC Orion in the Indian Ocean. According to him, drones and other means of destruction achieved their intended targets.

In early May, Yahya Sariya promised that the Yemeni rebel movement Ansar Allah (Houthis) would attack ships associated with Israel or going to its ports everywhere, including in the Mediterranean Sea, if it launched an operation in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

On May 2, the US military destroyed three Houthi drones in Yemen. The US Central Command assured that the drones posed a threat to American warships and merchant ships in the region.

Video shows moments before deputies fatally shoot man armed with railroad spike at Florida church
[FoxNews] HCSO bodycam shows deputies attempting 'less-lethal options' before shooting, killing man.

A man threatening residents inside a church in Florida was shot and killed by deputies after "less-lethal options were ineffective" and the man "charged at deputies," according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO).

The deputy-involved shooting happened around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday at the Divine Mercy Prayer Center in Plant City, HCSO said in a press release. Body camera footage from the department shows the man walking behind a wrought-iron fence while growling at the responding deputies. The sheriff's office said the suspect refused to obey commands to drop a sharp object he was carrying. That object was a railroad spike, according to FOX 13 Tampa Bay.

Bodycam footage shows the suspect kicking open the metal fence and lunging at the deputies. At that time, deputies attempted to maintain a safe distance, but the man continued towards them. A BolaWrap, a tool used to restrain a person without harming them, and a Taser were both deployed in failed attempts to stop the unidentified man.

"Our deputies showed extraordinary professionalism and exhausted every less lethal option to preserve life before this fatal outcome," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "Their actions today serve as a reflection of the extensive training our deputies undergo and is a testament to the tools they have available to serve and protect the community."

HCSO said deputies fired at the suspect, fearing for their lives. After they shot him, deputies immediately tried lifesaving efforts, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

Pentagon chief Austin says US will withdraw troops from Niger
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The United States of America will have to withdraw all its troops from Niger, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said on May 8 at a hearing in the Appropriations Committee of the US Senate.

“You mentioned that we are forced to leave Niger. We will leave Niger,” he said.

As Regnum reported, in March the Niger authorities terminated the military agreement with the United States, which allowed American military personnel to remain in the country. Niger's Interior Minister Mohamed Toumba said the country is interested in the Russian military training its troops.

On May 3, Reuters, citing a Pentagon representative, reported that Russian military personnel entered the air base in Niamey. On the same day, a source in the security forces of the African state clarified that the US military had declared increased combat readiness due to the deployment of Russian troops in Niger.

Later, the head of the Pentagon said that the United States was closely monitoring the situation with the presence of Russian military personnel at the air base in Niger. According to him, the Russian military is located in a separate complex. He added that he does not yet see this as a significant problem in terms of protecting American forces.

The United States tried to the last to maintain a military presence in Niger, and the authorities in Niamey had to begin deploying the Russian contingent before the Pentagon removed its personnel. At the same time, with the departure of the Americans, it is likely that Niger’s military cooperation with Russia will further deepen. Ivan Loshkarev, a researcher at the Center for the Study of Political Elites at the Institute of International Studies at MGIMO, shared this opinion with a Regnum correspondent.

#1  CBS News:
Why the military withdrawal from Niger is a "devastating blow" to the U.S., and likely a win for Russia
By Sarah Carter

April 22, 2024 / 11:06 AM EDT / CBS News

Johannesburg — After investing more than $1 billion in Niger over a decade, the U.S. military has agreed to withdraw its more than 1,000 forces from the West African nation over the next few months. It was not a move the U.S. had hoped to make, and officials tell CBS News it will be a severe blow to U.S. counterterrorism efforts in a region known to represent a number of major and growing threats.

Niger is a landlocked country surrounded by some unstable neighbors where local militias have joined forces with international terror organizations including al Qaeda and ISIS.

One senior U.S. military official who's spent time in Niger told CBS News the looming withdrawal was "a devastating blow, both for our regional counterterrorism efforts and to overall peace in the region going forward."

"Our soldiers have worked for years building the capacity and providing training to regional forces," the official said. "This is a tough blow on all levels...Following a military coup in July 2023, Niger's leaders made it clear in various discussions with U.S. officials that they were not interested in U.S. efforts to help guide the country on a path toward new democratic elections, and were instead turning to Russia for security services and to Iran for a possible deal on Niger's uranium reserves.
In March, the head of the U.S. military's Africa Command, Gen. Michael Langley, warned members of the U.S. Congress that "a number of countries are at the tipping point of being captured by the Russian Federation."

Economy
Federal Reserve Chairman: Migration Boosts Mortgage Rates
[Breitbart] President Joe Biden’s migration crisis raises the mortgage rates that burden young couples and families, according to the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.

“While the long-run effect of increased immigration on inflation is unclear, immigrants nonetheless need a place to live, and their arrival in the U.S. has likely also increased demand for housing,” said Neel Kashkari, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, said on May 7.

In turn, he said, mortgage rates are nudged upwards with higher interest rates, saying, “Perhaps a neutral [interest] rate for the housing market is higher than before the pandemic.”

Kashkari is a member of the Federal Reserve, which is now raising interest rates to reduce the unpopular inflation caused by the federal government’s deficit spending.

But since 2021, Biden’s deputies have also worsened inflation by importing roughly ten million legal, illegal, and quasi-legal migrants.

The migrants are intended to fill jobs, reduce wages, spur the consumer economy, and boost rental rates. The human-resources stimulus is good for investors who want more consumer demand and lower wages, and for progressives who want more government dependents and potential voters.

But this huge inflow has inflated housing prices, used autos, and other consumer items while also cutting wages for Americans.

“Abundant labor coming across the border” is reducing the wages paid to Americans, Kristalina Georgieva, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, said in April.

“Across the G10 [group of wealthy countries] … there is no doubt immigrants need things as soon as they arrive, boosting demand [for used autos, food, etc.],” the Economist magazine admitted. “Nowhere is this clearer than in the case of rental housing, which is in short supply across the anglosphere.”

The chaos caused by mass migration is forcing an elite rethink of economic policy.

“The big winners are the countries that have shrinking populations … [such as China and Japan who] will rapidly develop robotics and AI and technology,” BlackRock founder Larry Fink said at an April 29 event hosted by the World Economic Forum in Saudi Arabia. He continued:

If a promise of all that [technology] transforms [per person] productivity, which most of us think it will [emphasis added] — we’ll be able to elevate the standard living in countries, the standard of living for individuals, even with shrinking populations.

Democrats, however, prefer to stimulate the nation’s consumer economy with more migrants.

Migrants — not voting Americans and their children — “are what makes us [economically] strong,” Biden told a May 1 fundraiser for pro-migration groups at the elite Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC.

General Holt: uncontrolled migration to the US will lead to terrorist attacks
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Uncontrolled migration in the United States of America and Washington's inaction on this issue will lead to terrorists infiltrating the country. This was stated by retired US Air Force Brigadier General Blaine Holt on the American TV channel Newsmax.

“There will be terrorist attacks in our country. What happens on university campuses is just the tip of the iceberg. This is a great cover for what is obviously coming,” he explained.

Holt argues that this is due to uncontrolled migration in the States, as a result of which foreign wars are transferred to their territory.

As Regnum reported, authorities in the state of Texas, which borders Mexico, transported more than 102,000 illegal migrants to other US states as part of a program for the relocation of illegal refugees.

It is clarified that Texas has transported over 12,500 migrants to Washington since April 2022, more than 37,500 thousand migrants to New York and 31,200 thousand migrants to Chicago since August 2022. Also, 16,000 illegal migrants were transported to Denver, 3,400 thousand to Philadelphia, 1,500 thousand to Los Angeles.

Texas authorities also took measures against illegal migration by fencing off a section of the state border with Mexico. Governor Greg Abbott officially declared "invasion and the right of self-defense." According to him, Texas will pursue its own policy to protect the state from the infiltration of migrants, since federal authorities are not coping with border protection. Abbott also announced his readiness to enter into conflict with federal authorities if necessary.

Brazen election interference: Illinois Democrats retroactively change law to knock out Republican challengers. Surely, lawsuits must follow.
[WirePoints] As an alternative to a primary election, Illinois law allowed for a party to get its candidates on the ballot for General Assembly spots by party slating procedure, along with collection of a requisite number of public signatures on nominating positions. A number of Republican challengers have been proceeding accordingly.

But over the course of just 30 hours on the first days of this month, the Democratic supermajority changed the law to retroactively disallow that procedure, thereby barring challengers from the November ballot as Republican party candidates.

The new law almost certainly gives Democrats a win in races in which Republicans did not run a candidate in the primary and could result in dozens of unopposed races.

Gov. JB signed the new law the day after it was passed, hours after telling reporters he didn’t know all the details. He also claimed it was an "ethics" bill."

My take is that "JB" (D-Ukraine) wouldn't know "ethics" if they crawled up his a$$ and sat next to his brothers "missing" sex Toy.

A powerful flare was recorded on the Sun
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] A large ejection of mass directed towards the Earth was recorded on the Sun. It probably became the largest in the current May surge of activity, the joint laboratory of solar astronomy of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported on May 8.

The solar mass ejection was simultaneously recorded by X-ray monitors and direct observations from space coronagraphs. It was preceded by a double solar flare. The first was observed at about five, the second at about eight in the morning Moscow time.

“Both flares had a score around X1. Solar matter, apparently, was ejected during the second explosion,” the laboratory noted.

Solar masses are expected to reach Earth on May 11. They can cause magnetic storms with a power of G2-G3 - medium to strong.

Experts recalled that the Sun has the greatest impact on the Earth when it ejects masses. Possessing enormous kinetic energy, they cause a direct blow to the Earth's magnetic field. Solar flares are assigned one of five classes - A, B, C, M or X - depending on the power of the X-ray emission.

As Regnum reported, in April, the head of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergei Bogachev, said that in the southern hemisphere of the Sun, on the side facing the Earth, there was an accumulation of flare energy. In such cases, powerful outbreaks occur. Previously, the Sun sharply increased its activity at the end of March, when scientists recorded one of the largest flares in the last 20 years.

On May 2, experts recorded the third strongest magnetic storm since the beginning of 2024. During the night and morning of May 4, five powerful flares occurred on the Sun.

According to Valery Shematovich, a leading researcher at the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, several strong storms occurred on the Sun at the end of April - beginning of May, accompanied by emissions of clouds of solar plasma. This is what can explain the appearance of the aurora over the regions of Central Russia.

US spies to use secretive AI service from Microsoft
[FoxBusinessNews] Microsoft's AI platform for US intelligence agencies has been deployed and is in a testing and accreditation stage.

U.S. intelligence agencies will soon be using a secretive generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform from Microsoft that will let America's spies safely use AI models in the process of analyzing sensitive data.

Microsoft's generative AI model for intelligence agencies aims to get around security issues that stem from large language models' (LLMs) connection to the internet, which typically is used as a resource for training those models. Bloomberg reported that the AI tool is the first major LLM fully separated from the internet.

William Chappell, Microsoft's CTO for strategic missions and technology, told Bloomberg the AI tool was deployed to an "air-gapped" cloud environment isolated from the internet and features a model based on GPT-4 along with supporting tools. The company announced the new product at the AI Expo for National Competitiveness this week.

"This is the first time we've ever had an isolated version — when isolated means it's not connected to the internet — and it's on a special network that's only accessible bythe U.S. government," Chappell told Bloomberg.
If it’s completely disconnected from the internet, perhaps it’ll take longer for the AI to become a racist, sexist neo-Nazi…
Chappell told Bloomberg the new AI platform from Microsoft is structured so that it can read files but not learn from them in a way that would impact its output or from the broader internet.

"You don't want it to learn on the questions that you're asking and then somehow reveal that information," he told the outlet.

The new AI tool, which Chappell said could theoretically be accessed by about 10,000 members of the intelligence community who have access to top-secret data, went live Thursday and will enter a testing and accreditation phase before it can go into broader use by the intelligence community, according to the report.

#8  I have two hard drives on my PC and I can boot from either one of them. Some specialized software is only available for Windows so I can boot into Windows for those occasions when I need it. But it tries my patience. It is sooooooo sloooowwwwwww and bloated. The good folks at Microslop program advertisements into Windows and all kinds of other crap that I do not need or want.

Browsers are available for Linux and they are far superior to Internet Explorer or Edge or whatever they're calling it these days.

An office suite is available in Linux that works a lot like Word and Excel only faster, better and for free.

All kinds of other applications are freely available.

The command line in Linux is a great way to get behind the scenes and find out what is really happening. You can program your own scripts to automate all kinds of tasks that would either take a lot longer to do on Windows or else they would be absolutely impossible. I admit, I worked with it for years and learned how to use it. I guess Windows is for those technophobes who shudder at the thought of a command line.

I worked with Windows too and that's why I don't think the US intelligence agencies are being very intelligent if they chose Microsoft's AI platform.

It’s not that I’m a technophobe, but I lack the mental energy to keep up with all the changes since Lotus 123. My darling 98-year-old mother, who is a technophobe, gave up in 2018, but she’s the kind of person who went to medical school in a foreign country she’d never been to, taught in a language she didn’t know… for the fun of it (and to get away from her mother and whatever the title is for the mother of one’s dead husband — who conspired together to find her a replacement for him).

#22  Generative AI does not do analysis. It generates things that are similar to other things that the neural network was trained on.

Everyone has gone nutty lately over Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT due to their surprisingly coherent text generation. It gives the impression of intelligence but LLMs at their core are simply good at predicting the next word in a sentence. One known problem with LLMs is their ability to generate "facts" like non-existent legal cases, fake bibliographic references, and imaginary computer code libraries. The actual term of art for this is hallucination.

AI is a broad topic despite our fixation on LLMs. There are classifiers that can find patterns in huge piles of multi-dimensional data. Image recognizers can make sense of scrawled hand-written zip codes on envelopes, or identify perps from security camera footage or read x-rays better than a trained radiologist. Anomaly detectors can give you a clue that something is about to go wrong, like the funny noise an engine bearing has been making or whether that BANG was a gunshot or a car backfiring. Useful stuff, but like everything created by the hand of Man, not always fool-proof.

Rather than analysis, I suspect this will be used to generate targeted "content" like Daily Mail articles. See the Trump to send US special forces hit squads to Mexico to assassinate drug cartel leaders in second term article in WoT Background for an example. Marketing and media campaigns will never be the same. Welcome to the brave new world!

Three Taliban security personnel killed in north Afghanistan blast
[GEO.TV] Three Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
security personnel were killed when a cycle of violence carrying an bomb blew up near a military vehicle in northern Afghanistan being used in opium poppy eradication operations, an interior ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Protests have roiled several districts in the northern province of Badakhshan where farmers object to Taliban security forces' attempts to wipe out opium cultivation - the backbone of many household incomes in impoverished Afghanistan.

"The explosion took place as the police convoy was passing for the purpose of opium poppy eradication," said interior ministry spokesperson Abdul Matin Qaniee, adding that five other people were maimed.

It was not clear who was behind the attack in the thriving provincial capital Faizabad.
thriving?
National and local Taliban administration spokespeople had said the previous day that calm had been restored to the protest-hit areas and teams sent from the national and thriving provincial capital had held discussions with locals.

The protests, which began late last week, have resulted in the deaths of two people. The Taliban said they were considering providing financial compensation to the victims' families.

The Taliban have said they are seeking to restore order and security to the war-torn nation after taking over in 2021 as foreign forces withdrew.

Nevertheless, attacks have continued and the local branch of murderous Moslem group ISIS, as well as resistance groups, have claimed attacks on Taliban security forces.

Economy
Breitbart Business Digest: The Housing Market Shows Interest Rates Are Too Low
The idea that interest rates are not high enough is beginning to gain a foothold at the Federal Reserve.

Neel Kashkari, our esteemed monetary shepherd from the Minneapolis Fed, has once again taken to the digital pen with commendable transparency to point out that the economy is not behaving as you might expect it to if the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy were all that restrictive.

Kashkari’s focus is on the housing market. This makes sense. Housing is considered one of the most interest-rate-sensitive segments of the economy because homes are typically purchased with mortgages. As a result, the housing market is one of the primary channels through which monetary policy is transmitted to the real economy.

Here’s how that works. When the Fed raises its target for overnight interest rates for loans between banks, this tends to raise yields on longer term bonds because these are essentially just a series of short-term loans. Because mortgage-backed securities are a somewhat close substitute for Treasuries, mortgage rates tend to follow the yield on 10-year Treasuries.

Higher interest rates make buying homes less affordable. They can either depress home prices or at least slow down the rise in prices by reducing demand. They also tend to slow down home building, which is an economically intensive activity that employs lots of labor, materials, and manufactured products. So, if you can slow down the housing market, you can probably slow down the economy and reduce inflation.

Fifth Column
GWU anarchists call for beheadings of school administrators amid anti-Israel encampment
[FoxNews] Anarchists at George Washington University (GWU) in Washington, D.C., have apparently called for the beheadings of school administrators amid their continued anti-Israel encampment.

Demonstrators on campus called for the "guillotine" to be used on GW President Ellen Granberg and other school administrators, a resurfaced video posted to social media showed.

"Guillotine, Guillotine, Guillotine, Guillotine," a person repeatedly chanted as others joined in, while some specifically targeted Christopher Alan Bracey, GW’s African American provost, The National Desk (TND) reported. "Bracey, Bracey we see you, you assault students too."

At least 35 people were arrested at GWU as of Wednesday morning, DC police told Fox News.

Several members at the encampment then held a mock court hearing to decide the fate of the administrators, TND reported. According to the report, the incident was recorded from an Instagram Live video on May 3 and has resurfaced on social media. In the video, an encampment leader rendered the fake verdict as a Bracey proxy sat before them. This mock court continued with verdicts for GWU’s board of trustees and for the school’s president, shouting for each of these individuals to be beheaded, per the publication.

The agitators caused chaos in GWU’s U-Yard throughout the night and then resisted police officers after they were called to restore order.

Police finally moved onto the campus around 3:30 a.m. and used pepper spray to clear the raucous crowd.

For days, the encampment erected tents, displayed Palestinian flags and defaced a statue of the campus' namesake, former President George Washington, with Palestinian iconography.

On Wednesday, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and police chief Pamela Smith are expected to testify before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday to discuss the anti-Israel demonstration and potential safety concerns on the GWU campus. The mayor’s office confirmed to Fox News Digital Tuesday that the mayor and the police chief will testify at the hearing.

Group of migrants sends list of demands to Denver's mayor
[Fox 31] Ungrateful shits should be conveyor-belted back to Mexico
DENVER (KDVR) — A group of migrants staying at an encampment in Denver sent a list of demands to the mayor’s desk. That group said if their demands are met, they will voluntarily stay in city-funded shelters and leave their encampment where families, including young children, still live in tents.

The migrants have been lobbied by Denver Human Services to get off the street and into shelters — an offer that remains, according to city officials. But they are holding out and said the city has reneged on its deal with them, while the city maintains it will continue to offer services to migrants that choose shelter over encampments.

"The camp as a collective came up with a list of demands," V Reeves, a migrant advocate, said.

That came after a petition by city officials to move people from an encampment near train tracks and under a bridge to indoor shelters funded by the city.

"This morning, they sent buses to take people over without presenting that document and without having any kind of signature for accountability," Reeves said.

That is how the city responded instead of meeting their demands, according to Reeves.

"We’ve been offering time and shelter, basically just trying to get families to leave that camp and come inside," said Jon Ewing, with Denver Human Services.

Ewing said shelter comes with its perks, namely getting out of conditions outdoors.

"Which comes with three square meals a day," Ewing said. "You can cook your own if you like to."

That is one of the main demands from the migrants, who have had grievances about the food provided by the city.

"There have been so many complaints about the food being spoiled or not being enough and malnutrition amongst children," Reeves said.

Migrants who stay in shelters are often put on a path toward a work permit. Reeves said the migrants at the encampment have not received the same benefits.

"They’re not receiving any kind of official housing or immigration document support, which is incredibly necessary for them to be able to navigate the bureaucracy around these systems," Reeves said.

The city said its offer comes with these benefits.

"What do you qualify for? What do you not qualify for? What might be something that is a feasible path for you to success that is not staying on the streets of Denver?" Ewing said. "We try to compromise. We try to figure something out. You know, at the end of the day, what we do not want is families on the streets of Denver."
What are the demands from migrants?

In all, the migrants presented 13 demands to the city of Denver. Messages shared with FOX31 show the demands are:

  • Migrants will cook their own food with fresh, culturally appropriate ingredients provided by the City instead of premade meals — rice, chicken, flour, oil, butter, tomatoes, onions, etc... Also people will not be punished for bringing in & eating outside food.

  • Shower access will be available without time limits & can be accessed whenever — we are not in the military, we’re civilians.

  • Medical professional visits will happen regularly & referrals/connections for specialty care will be made as needed.

  • All will receive the same housing support that has been offered to others. They cannot kick people out in 30 days without something stable established.

  • There needs to be a clear, just process before exiting someone for any reason — including verbal, written & final warnings.

  • All shelter residents will receive connection to employment support, including work permit applications for those who qualify.

  • Consultations for each person/family with a free immigration lawyer must be arranged to discuss/progress their cases, & then the City will provide on-going legal support in the form of immigration document clinics & including transportation to relevant court dates.

  • The City will provide privacy for families/individuals within the shelter.

  • No more verbal or physical or mental abuse will be permitted from the staff, including no sheriff sleeping inside & monitoring 24/7 — we are not criminals & won’t be treated as such.

  • Transportation for all children to & from their schools will be provided until they finish in 3 weeks.

  • No separating families, regardless of if family members have children or not. The camp will stay together.

  • The City must schedule a meeting with the Mayor & those directly involved in running the Newcomer program ASAP to discuss further improvements & ways to support migrants.

  • The City must provide all residents with a document signed by a City official in English & Spanish with all of these demands that includes a number to call to report mistreatment.

The city continues to bring buses to the encampment for any migrants choosing to leave the encampment and go to a congregate shelter or hotel.

FSB declassifies documents about Nazi crimes in Donbass during the war
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The intelligence services of the Donetsk People's Republic have published documents from the archives of the State Security Committee, which testify to the mass genocide of residents of Donbass during the Great Patriotic War. The head of the regional department of the FSB, Lieutenant General Oleg Bolomozhnov, donated the documents to the Republican Museum of Local Lore in Donetsk.

According to declassified documents, the number of victims of the genocide of Donbass residents amounts to several thousand people, mostly women and children. The names of fascist collaborators, traitors who voluntarily went over to the German side for their own benefit, also became known.

“The materials transferred to the museum will be used to recognize the genocide of the people of Donbass by the Nazis and their accomplices from the OUN-UPA [Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists - Ukrainian Insurgent Army, an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation] during the Great Patriotic War,” the security officials explained.

The materials will complement the exposition of the Museum of the Great Patriotic War. According to general director Marina Maksimchuk, they will become “important exhibits that are necessary for educating the younger generation.”

The FSB added that work on analysis, assessment and digitization of information is ongoing and will continue in the future.

“The declassification and publication of the archival fund will become regular in order to restore historical justice and prevent a repetition of those terrible events,” the FSB regional department assured.

Russian Foreign Ministry said that “Biden’s monsters” insulted the memory of the victims of World War II
In the days when the world celebrates Victory Day over Nazism, the US presidential administration insulted the memory of millions of victims of World War II, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on May 8.

This is how she commented on the statements of White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who stated that during World War II, “the United States and our Ukrainian allies” joined forces to fight against the totalitarian regimes of Hitler and Stalin. Now Berlin is an ally of the United States, but the “threat from the East” remains, Jean-Pierre said. She made these statements in response to the question of why the United States does not condemn manifestations of Nazism in Ukraine and continues to sponsor the Kiev regime.

The statements of the press secretary of the US administration were not improvised, Jean-Pierre read them, which means that her words represent the official version of the US administration about the events of World War II, Zakharova emphasized.

“These people, God forgive me, pose a threat, first of all, to US citizens with their distorted consciousness and desire to destroy the consciousness of others. I have never heard such a terrible lie about the events of 80 years ago. “Biden’s monsters” insulted the memory of millions of victims of World War II. And they did it on the days when the world celebrates Victory Day!” — Zakharova wrote in her Telegram channel.

As Regnum reported, on May 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the foundations of state policy in the field of historical education. The document defines the goals, principles and mechanisms for implementing Russian state policy in the field of historical education.

The strategy involves a unified methodology for teaching history, starting from the preschool level, and coordination of efforts in the fight against the West’s use of falsification of history as a weapon. The President, in particular, ordered the replacement of foreign educational platforms with domestic ones.

The West has been using Nazism and Nazis in the fight against Russia for a long time and does not intend to abandon this approach, military-political expert Boris Rozhin noted in April 2024.

49 Red Army soldiers who died in 1943 were buried in the Zaporozhye region
The remains of 49 Red Army soldiers who died in 1943 during the assault on the German fortified line “Wotan” were buried in the Zaporozhye region. The ceremony took place on May 8 in the village of Mordvinovka, reports IA Regnum correspondent.

According to the deputy chief of staff of the Zaporozhye branch of veterans of the Russian Armed Forces, Andrei Trofimov, this is the third time such a mourning event is being held in the territories liberated by Russia.

“Today we pay tribute to the memory of all our heroic ancestors on the eve of Victory Day, we are holding a reburial ceremony,” Trofimov said.

Bloody battles took place in this area in the fall of 1943. The fortified area, considered impregnable by the Nazis, was stormed by the Red Army for more than five months. More than 200 thousand Red Army soldiers died on this land.

\All the soldiers whose remains were found by the regional search party remained nameless. The current burial is the largest in the last two years.

#3  Wikipedia:

From the late 13th century, Finland became part of the Swedish Empire as a result of the Northern Crusades. In 1809, as a result of the Finnish War, Finland was captured from Sweden and became a Grand Duchy of Finland, an autonomous state ruled by the Russian Empire. During this period, Finnish art flourished and the idea of full independence began to take hold. In 1906, Finland became the first European state to grant universal suffrage, and the first in the world to give all adult citizens the right to run for public office.[16][note 2] Following the Russian Revolution of 1917, Finland declared its full independence. In 1918 the young nation was divided by the Finnish Civil War. During World War II, Finland fought against the Soviet Union in the Winter War and the Continuation War, and later against Nazi Germany in the Lapland War. As a result, it lost parts of its territory but retained its independence.
Finland remained a largely agricultural country until the 1950s. After World War II, it industrialised quickly and established an advanced economy, with a welfare state built on the Nordic model. This allowed the country to experience overall prosperity and high per capita income.[17] During the Cold War, Finland officially embraced a policy of neutrality. Since then, it has become a member of the European Union in 1995, the Eurozone in 1999, and NATO in 2023. Finland is a member of various international organisations, such as the United Nations, the Nordic Council, the Schengen Area, the Council of Europe, the World Trade Organization, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The nation performs exceedingly well in national performance metrics, including education, economic competitiveness, civil liberties, quality of life, and human development.[18][19][20][21]

Fifth Column
'Shameful': GOP lawmaker shreds 'AWOL' Biden for throwing Jews 'under the bus' amid anti-Israel protests
[FoxNews] A Republican lawmaker from New Jersey praised Speaker Mike Johnson’s decision to visit Columbia University in response to the anti-Israel protests on campus and blasted President Biden’s leadership on the issue that has spread to campuses nationwide.

"October 7th should have been the absolute wake-up call as to what Hamas and company are all about, Iran too, so Speaker Johnson did a magnificent job," Chris Smith told Fox News Digital this week about Speaker Johnson’s visit to Columbia’s campus contrasted with President Biden’s leadership on the issue.

"Not so with the president. The president has been nowhere to be found. He's been AWOL. He's been enabling. He's so worried about losing Dearborn, Michigan votes that he has thrown Jews and the Israeli people under the bus and I think it's shameful. Shameful. And he needs to get his voice and speak out boldly. Zero tolerance for antisemitism."

Michigan is seen by many as a "must win" state for Biden this November after he narrowly won there by less than 3 points. In recent months, a growing number of Palestinians in Dearborn, Michigan and other places in the state have suggested they will drop their support of him if he continues to support Israel's military operations in Gaza.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Shevchenko rejects the possibility of Nadezhda Kevorkova supporting terrorism
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Nadezhda Kevorkova’s publications about the events in Nalchik in 2005 concerned the torture to which detainees were subjected and irritated the security forces. At the same time, “she did not support terrorism in any form,” said journalist Maxim Shevchenko, commenting on Kevorkova’s arrest in the case of justifying terrorism.

As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova, during interrogation by the Investigative Committee, refused to admit her guilt in justifying terrorism. The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested her for two months, until July 6, in the case of her justifying terrorism. Orhan Dzhemal’s text, the publication of which became the reason for accusing journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova of justifying terrorism, had not previously been declared illegal.

The arguments that the publication on Kevorkova’s Telegram channel was accessible to a wide audience do not correspond to reality, the lawyer emphasized. The defense will appeal the journalist's arrest. Psychological and linguistic examination has become a punitive instrument, and in the absence of clear criteria for such an examination, it can be easily used to confirm the conclusions needed by the investigation, lawyer Timofey Shirokov pointed out, commenting on the persecution of the journalist.

Kevorkova  was accused of justifying terrorism  for publications in her Telegram channel. The reason was the repost of a text from 2010 by journalist Orkhan Dzhemal about the attack on Nalchik and a publication about the Taliban movement*. As follows from the publication dated September 23, 2018, Kevorkova in her Telegram channel completely reprinted the text of Orhan Dzhemal, adding only one phrase of her own. “Text 2010 Orkhan Dzhemal year on the death of Anzor Astemirov,” she wrote. In his article, Orkhan Dzhemal talked about his acquaintance with  Anzor Astemirov  and the miscalculations of the authorities that led to discontent among Muslims.

In recent years, Nadezhda Kevorkova no longer worked in the media, said Nadezhda Kevorkova’s ex-husband, journalist and publicist Maxim Shevchenko. “She parted with journalism, having retired, she wrote books - by the way, one of them, “Palestine, if I have to die,” was published quite recently. So those who arrested her dealt with the pensioner,” Shevchenko told the correspondent "Caucasian Knot".

Speaking about one of the publications incriminated by Kevorkova, a repost of Orkhan Dzhemal’s text about the events in Nalchik in 2005, Shevchenko emphasized that her accusers completely do not take into account the context of how this text appeared in her Telegram channel. “She staged it only because Orhan Dzhemal, her close friend, was killed shortly before. She was depressed and played all Orhan’s texts that she could find,” he said.

Shevchenko also recalled that Kevorkova herself wrote about the events in Nalchik in 2005. “She did not support terror in any form. But she wrote about the torture that detainees were subjected to, and since then many security forces have a grudge against her,” he said.

Nadezhda Kevorkova previously critically assessed the actions of security forces in the North Caucasus in general and in Kabardino-Balkaria in particular. Thus, on the night of July 2-3, 2021, security forces announced that they carried out a counter-terrorism operation in Nalchik and Baksan, as a result of which five alleged militants were declared killed. Kevorkova  reported that one of those killed was Khasanbi Khupsirgenov, previously convicted in the case of the attack on Nalchik in 2005. According to her, all five - Khasanbi Khupsirgenov, Anzor Barazov, Arsen Mendokhov, Mamaz Chikhradze and Khasan Shogenov - were kidnapped before the special operation, and the entire special operation was staged.

The son of Nadezhda Kevorkova, journalist Vasily Polonsky, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Kevorkova can be supported by sending her letters through the FSIN-letter system in pre-trial detention center No. 6 in Moscow.

In his Telegram channel, he clarified where to send letters. “Write to pre-trial detention center 6 in Moscow (Pechatniki), Nadezhda Vitalievna Kevorkova, born October 21, 1958. Pay for the response forms. Write the date when you send the letter so that it is clear how quickly they reach her,” he wrote today.

In the project on "Alif TV"  "Jihad of Russian Literature"  Nadezhda Kevorkova examined Caucasian and Muslim issues through the prism of the work of Russian writers, both classics and contemporaries. Among her interlocutors were Heydar Dzhemal, Sergei Medvedev, Lev Rubinstein. The topic of conversation was the age-old resistance to the Russian Empire's advance into the Caucasus. On the Poistine YouTube channel,   Kevorkova appeared as an expert on the Palestinian-Israeli war. On  the Telegram channel  and  social network X, she argued for the unfair treatment of Gazans, especially after the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023. Kevorkova was involved in the human rights protection of Muslims, in particular Chechens, on the territory of Russia and spoke out about the SVO in Ukraine, drawing analogies with the actions of security forces during the Chechen wars.

As of 22.15 Moscow time on May 8, 7,554 people had subscribed to Nadezhda Kevorkova’s Facebook page*. The last post was published on April 27, in which she asked readers not to send her requests (to add friends) and to ignore requests sent on her behalf. "Friends. Comrades. Enemies. I don't send requests to anyone. God knows who sends them. Please just delete the request," she wrote. Three more posts were published in April, two of them concern events in Palestine, another announces a book of poems by Heydar Jemal.

A total of 7,504 people have subscribed to Kevorkova’s Instagram page ; published posts partially duplicate the Facebook feed. Thus, the latest publication is dedicated to the book of Heydar Jemal. In total, three posts were published in April, two of them are dedicated to Palestine.

Kevorkova has been writing most actively lately on Telegram, where 9,693 people have subscribed to her channel. The latest publication is dated May 5 and, like most in recent months, is devoted to the Israeli-Palestinian topic. Also in May and April, Kevorkova wrote about the death of Navalny, about the prosecution of playwright Svetlana Petriychuk and director Evgenia Berkovich in the case of justifying terrorism, and asked to send her the text of one of Orhan Dzhemal’s notes.

Kevorkova has 3,668 followers on her social network page X.
Golly.
The last publication was made on May 5 - this is an archived video with Alexei Navalny, who answers questions from others. At the same time, his son sits on Navalny’s shoulders and waves his hand above his head. “What charm,” Kevorkova captioned the repost of the video. Most of the posts concern events in Palestine and their assessment in the world. One of the publications is dedicated to the murder of Orhan Dzhemal.

Russian journalist and war reporter Orkhan Dzhemal was killed in Central Africa on July 30, 2018 while filming a documentary about the private military company (PMC) Wagner. Investigators named robbery as the cause of the murder. Dzhemal's colleagues,  including Nadezhda Kevorkova, criticized this version. In particular, according to Kevorkova, the investigation had the attitude “not to investigate anything.”

Let us recall that on October 13, 2005, there was an armed attack on Nalchik, the participant of which, Anzor Astemirov, was the subject of Dzhemal’s article from 2010. According to investigators, at least 250 militants took part in it. As a result, 35 security forces and 15 civilians were killed, 129 security forces and 66 civilians were injured. During the fighting in the city, 95 militants were killed, according to the “Caucasian Knot” certificate “ Attack on Nalchik on October 13-14, 2005. ”

Lawyer analyzed the conclusions of the examination in the case of Nadezhda Kevorkova.

Psychological and linguistic examination has become a punitive tool, and in the absence of clear criteria for such an examination, it can be easily used to confirm the conclusions necessary for the investigation, lawyer Timofey Shirokov pointed out, commenting on the criminal prosecution of journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova.

As the " Caucasian Knot " wrote, journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova, during interrogation by the Investigative Committee, refused to admit her guilt in justifying terrorism. The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested her for two months, until July 6, in the case of her justifying terrorism. In his article, Orkhan Dzhemal talked about his acquaintance with Anzor Astemirov and the miscalculations of the authorities that led to discontent among Muslims.

Publication or reprint of any material can be considered a justification for terrorism and become the basis for prosecution if the security forces pay attention to it, said lawyer Timofey Shirokov, who is not associated with the Kevorkova case.

“A psychological and linguistic examination of a specific publication in a specific account is sufficient. Law enforcement practice follows this path. And in this examination, psychologists can indicate that “the text contains an incentive to certain actions or the adoption of a certain ideology.” The person who posted this text identifies with it and also strives And it doesn’t matter that the text is not recognized as extremist, it can be any text, even, for example, an excerpt from “Hadji Murad” by Leo Tolstoy. An expert can “tailor” the conclusion that a certain person, by posting this excerpt, contributes to something and supports something. Thus, psychological and linguistic examination has become a punitive tool,” Shirokov explained.

According to the lawyer, such examinations do not have clear criteria. " And considering how and by whom these psychological and linguistic examinations are carried out and by whose order, they can tighten up anything, there would be a desire. For example, if the text is allegorical. Experts can conclude: the person deliberately observes secrecy. The results of the examination depend on the desires of those interested individuals, and not at all from scientific methodology,” says Shirokov.

Nadezhda Kevorkova was placed in pre-trial detention center 6 "Pechatniki", said her lawyer Albina Pavlova. “This is a women’s detention center. I can’t explain anything about her state of health at the moment; before her arrest she felt fine, but complained of the cold,”  she noted.

According  to the lawyer, the current situation will be understood after the holidays. “Unfortunately, it’s not possible to go to the detention center on weekends. I warned her that I would come to her after May 13,” Pavlova indicated.

As for Kevorkova’s elderly parents (father - 89, mother - 87 years old), they are not left without help and attention, said Kevorkova’s son, journalist Vasily Polonsky. “Yes, we are doing everything,” he told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

Nadezhda Kevorkova previously critically assessed the actions of security forces in the North Caucasus in general and in Kabardino-Balkaria in particular. Israel, Hezbollah trade heavy fire as violence escalates

...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
and Hezbollah said it had launched explosive drones and powerful rockets at Israeli targets on Wednesday in an escalation of seven months of hostilities in the border region.

Israeli attacks killed three people in Lebanon, security sources said.

The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has rumbled on since October in parallel to the Gazoo
Then they bitched and moaned about genocide when their butts handed to them in the entirely justified retaliation.
war, uprooting tens of thousands of people on both sides of the frontier and fuelling concern of a bigger war between the heavily armed adversaries.

The Israeli military said it had hit military structures and infrastructure belonging to the Iran-backed Hezbollah in three locations in south Lebanon, including more than 20 strikes on Hezbollah targets in the Ramyeh area.

Hezbollah said it had launched explosive drones at a military headquarters in the Israeli border town of Ya'ara, and fired its powerful Burkan rockets at a barracks in Biranit, among at least 10 attacks announced by the group on Wednesday.

22:09 Zelensky said in an evening video message that he heard a separate report from the Minister of Defense and a report from the Commander-in-Chief today. The main priorities are positions at the front, the physical protection of people and communities, and the disruption of any attempts at offensive actions by the Russian Federation.

22:04 The Slovaks have collected more than 4 million euros for shells for Ukraine - this money is enough to produce almost 2,700 artillery ammunition. They should be delivered to Ukraine no later than the end of summer, said Dodo Dobrik, a participant in the Gift for Putin project.

21:56 The Russians attacked Ukraine at night with a new and modernized X-101 missile with a double warhead, writes the specialized publication Defense Express. 20:57 The UK announced an additional contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund in the amount of about 23 million euros, the Ministry of Energy reported. The funds will be used to purchase equipment to repair damaged energy infrastructure, strengthen physical protection and provide backup power, including generators and distributed generation.

20:31 The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading bill No. 11079-1, which allowed certain categories of prisoners to mobilize into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As expected, such an initiative caused a strong reaction in society and many concerns, but people’s deputies assure that the document is well thought out and prohibits the mobilization of those convicted of serious crimes. Read more in the material Mobilization of prisoners: who will go to the front.

19:24 Zelensky said that he had telephone conversations with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Prime Ministers of Denmark and the Netherlands Matte Frederiksen and Mark Rutte, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maria Pejčinović-Burich - they all confirmed their participation in the Global Peace Summit, which will be held in Switzerland on 15 -June 16. In addition, the president had a “long and substantive” conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Zelensky invited him to the Peace Summit, and the integration of Ukraine into the EU was also discussed.

19:18 The total resource of prisoners who could potentially be mobilized into the Ukrainian Defense Forces is 15-20 thousand people, said the head of the parliamentary faction Servant of the People David Arakhamia. “We don’t know how many of them will sign the contract, because this will happen by agreement of the parties. We estimate that it will be several thousand people,” he added. Arakhamia noted that prisoners will be able to mobilize after a court decision on parole.

18:53 The former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who did not appear in public for a long time after resigning from office, became more active in the media field and social networks. First, he published a photo on his Facebook page, and then met with one of the Ukrainian singers and came to Lina Kostenko’s home. Read more about Zaluzhny’s appearance in public in the article What surprised the general.

17:46 In India, four citizens were arrested suspected of luring Indians by deception into the war in Ukraine on the side of the Russian Federation, the BBC reports, citing the Indian Central Bureau of Investigation. According to the department, people were lured with offers of study and work in Russia with high salaries and obtaining Russian citizenship. As a result, at least 35 Indians ended up in the war, at least two of them died. According to Reuters, the Indian Foreign Ministry "in strong terms" raised this issue with the Russian authorities.

17:29 Italian President Sergio Mattarella said that Russia's invasion of Ukraine cannot be resolved by encouraging the Kremlin's aggression. According to him, peace can only come when the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is restored.

According to Ukrenergo estimates, this is the fifth such attack since March 22. In early April, Putin acknowledged new attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, presenting them as a response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian fuel and energy sector facilities. Read more in the article Power outages throughout the country.

15:40 The European Union did not refuse to recognize Putin as President of Russia, since all member states could not reach a consensus on this issue, said Peter Stano, spokesman for the EU foreign policy service. According to him, the bloc itself does not have the authority to recognize or not recognize anyone’s power, and traditionally such a decision is made by member states.

“Of course, if 27 member states unanimously say that they do not recognize the legitimacy of a country’s representative, as they did in the case of the Syrian leader Assad or the dictator in Belarus Lukashenko, then we can have this position. In the case of Russia there is no pan-European EU position agreed upon by the 27 countries that would argue that we do not see Putin as a legitimate representative of Russia,” Stano explained.

15:07 British intelligence reports that Russia has begun equipping its main X-101 aircraft missiles with a second warhead. It is designed for increased fragmentation damage to the target, which will make it more effective against unfortified targets. Analysts note that the range of such missiles is halved, but this will still be enough for Russia to strike throughout Ukraine.

14:59 Three children injured as a result of the shelling of Kharkov are in serious condition, said Oleg Sinegubov, head of the OBA. According to him, the boys, aged 13, 14 and 15, were playing football on the playground when the Russians struck the city. Two adults were also injured.

14:32 In Kharkov, the number of victims has increased to five, of which three are children, said Oleg Sinegubov, head of the OVA.

14:28 The Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill on the mobilization of convicts as a whole. According to the document, only certain categories of prisoners can mobilize. It is prohibited for those convicted of premeditated murder, sexual violence and crimes against the fundamentals of national security to mobilize.

12:21 In 2024, Ukraine caught up with Russia in terms of production of kamikaze drones similar to Shahed-131 and Shahed-136, as well as in the production of other attack drones, General Director of Ukroboronprom German Smetanin said in an interview with ArmyInform. He confirmed that “everything that explodes in Russia is all ours.”

In addition, according to Smetanin, Ukraine has significantly increased the production of ammunition - this is the main product the front is waiting for. The enterprises have not only established and are scaling up the serial production of artillery shells and mortar mines of Soviet caliber, but are also gradually moving to the production of NATO caliber ammunition - 60-mm mortar mines. The Defense Forces also successfully use air defense systems developed as part of the Ukrainian-American FrankenSAM project against enemy drones. Such a system shot down the Iranian kamikaze drone Shahed from a distance of 9 km. “We are capable of producing even more, but we are constrained by the state’s lack of money, and we are counting on additional funding, in particular from abroad,” Smetanin added.

11:37 Tonight from 18:00 to 23:00 it is possible to restrict household and industrial consumers throughout Ukraine, Ukrenergo reported. The restrictions will be evenly distributed across all regions, and shutdown schedules will be published on the official pages of local regional power companies. The reason for the restrictions is a shortage of electricity in the energy system, which arose due to new damage to the equipment of Ukrainian power plants as a result of Russian strikes. A particularly difficult situation is expected today from 18:00 to 23:00 - Ukrainians are asked to consume electricity sparingly at this time.

Simonyte also stated that Lithuania is ready to send its soldiers to Ukraine on a training mission. According to her, the Lithuanian parliament has already given permission, but Kyiv has not yet asked for it.

10:43 They plan to include a clause in the NATO declaration following the July summit stating that the Alliance will not send its troops to Ukraine, writes the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. Also at the summit, a decision should be made on the transfer of coordination of Western assistance to Ukraine from the United States to NATO headquarters. The publication notes that in general, “the strategy dictated by the United States does not change,” but a “change of pace” is being prepared.

19:20 Daily calculations of 122mm BM-21 MLRS "Grad" struck command posts and fortifications, areas of concentration of forces and enemy artillery batteries. Unmanned aerial vehicles are used to reconnaissance targets and adjust fire.

18:40Offensive on Chasov Yar, May 8:

After a series of heavy defeats and lost support units, the Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to counterattack south of the Novy microdistrict. They rolled out several tanks and threw a company of infantry into battle. After several sighting shots from the artillery of the Russian Armed Forces, the infantry fled to the outposts and dugouts, and the tanks were destroyed by the Burevestnik UAV detachment.

There are also some changes in tactics: “meat assaults” are periodically carried out to try to recapture lost positions, but, as in other sectors of the front, territorial defenses are used for such events, rather than well-trained troops. The command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces prefers to save them in case of a breakthrough of Russian troops through the Seversky Donets canal.

The “temperature” on this front is rapidly rising, which is expected. The enemy will be defeated and put to shame."

15:57 The situation in the Vremyevsky direction is reported by the “Z Committee”:

The Russian Armed Forces have advanced near Staromayorsky, and battles are already taking place on the territory of the populated area
.
15:09 Assault units of the “Southern” group of troops continue to improve their skills in close combat when storming enemy positions -video.

After successfully occupying the territory of an agricultural enterprise in the south of Urozhaynoye, Russian troops continue to conduct an offensive in the Urozhaynoye - Staromayorskoye sector.

In Urozhainy, the enemy makes unsuccessful attempts to counterattack in small groups with armored vehicles, but under counter fire from Russian troops retreats to the northern outskirts of the village.

In just a few days, Far Eastern Marines from the 40th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade expanded the controlled zone in the southwest of Urozhayny by more than half a kilometer in depth. TOS-1A heavy flamethrower systems also strike enemy positions.

Ukrainian formations tried to transfer reinforcements to Staromayorskoye from the side located in the north of Makarovka, but the Russian Armed Forces destroyed four pickup trucks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with manpower.

At the same time, to the west of Staromayorsky, fighters of the 60th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade advanced into a forest plantation, capturing two enemy strongholds. According to some reports, they also managed to cut the road from Rovnopol, but there is no objective evidence of this yet.

A certain activation in some sectors of the front, which have rarely appeared in reports in recent months, may force the Ukrainian Armed Forces to use at least part of their reserves there. Which, in turn, will in the future make it easier for the Russian Armed Forces to attack near Avdievka or in other directions.

14:02 According to the Ukrainian resource DeepState, most of the village. Staromayorske has moved into the “gray zone”; there are no Ukrainian troops there.

13:49 Summary of the progress of hostilities over the past 24 hours from the Russian Ministry of Defense:

In this part, Ukrainian troops hold the territory of the central district hospital and the agricultural technical school, however, due to the lack of the opportunity to obtain large reserves, this is becoming increasingly difficult. In parallel, Russian artillery is actively pressing on the reserves and supplies of the Ukrainian Armed Forces behind the Zhukovsky reservoir to the west of Krasnogorovka and is working along Selidovo, from where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to strengthen the (for now) fortified area occupied by the Ukrainian army by rail.

12:05 Information is received about the advance of our forces in Krasnogorovka in the northeast of the city from the Lozovaya River. Our troops have advanced significantly along Nakhimov and 1 May streets in the direction of the street junction. Western-Nakhimova-May 1. There are approximately 700 meters left to the junction itself.

11:57 UAV operators of the 14th Separate Guards Special Forces Brigade struck Ukrainian Armed Forces vehicle in the Northern Military District zone. First, the operators hit the pickup truck with an FPV drone, and then finished it off with a drop.

11:22 New explosions in Khar'kov.

10:55 Units of the “Center” group of troops as a result of successful actions improved tactical position and defeated the manpower and equipment of 24, 115 Mechanized, 143 Infantry and 68 Yaeger brigades in the Leninskoye, Novokalinovo, Semenovka and Solovyevo areas.

On May 8, the Moscow City Court is considering defense complaints against Ivanov’s arrest. It is at this stage of the process that lawyers can present to the court information characterizing the accused, including certificates and awards.

As Regnum reported, during a meeting on May 8, the Moscow City Court refused to release Ivanov from the pre-trial detention center, recognizing his arrest as legal.

Law enforcement officers detained Ivanov on the evening of April 23. The Deputy Minister of Defense was charged with receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. According to the investigation, Ivanov, having entered into a criminal conspiracy, received property benefits from contracting and subcontracting work for the needs of the military department. The Deputy Minister of Defense did not admit his guilt in committing the crime.

The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested the real estate and bank accounts of Ivanov and his relatives, imposing restrictions on the assets of the accused, his ex-wives and five children. Two more people appear in the corruption case, entrepreneur Sergei Borodin and co-founder of Olympsitistroy Alexander Fomin. They were also arrested by court order.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov previously called for trusting only official information and focusing on official statements on the case of the Deputy Minister of Defense.

Ivanov was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense in May 2016. He oversaw issues related to property management, troop quartering, housing and medical support for the Russian Armed Forces, construction, reconstruction and overhaul of Ministry of Defense facilities. He was in charge, among other things, of the restoration of Mariupol.

Ohio: CWRU Hamasniks painted over
[Cleveland.com] Contractors spray-painted over pro-Palestinian protesters at Case Western Reserve University.

Students are accusing contractors hired by Case Western Reserve University of assault after they were spray-painted while protesting for Palestine.

Students painted the Advocacy and Spirit walls on Monday night with the Palestinian flag and messages that included “I dream of breaking the siege,” “Come together in peace” and the number of Palestinian children killed in Gaza since war between Israel and Hamas broke out in October.

Early Tuesday morning, contractors hired by the college were ordered to paint over the walls because the administration said the messaging was “threatening, intimidating and antisemitic,” according to an email from Eric Kaler, Case’s president.

To stop the contractors, several students stood in front of the Spirit Wall as workers directly sprayed white paint over them. One student, wearing a face shield, was seen completely covered in the paint in a video shared with The Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com by Case’s Students for Justice in Palestine group.

Kaler released a statement that said he was “disturbed” by what occurred and apologized to the college community Tuesday evening for the incident.

“Let me be clear: No students — or any individuals — should ever be treated this way, especially on a campus where our core values center on providing a safe, welcoming environment. This is not who we are as an institution, and I am deeply sorry this ever occurred,” he said.

Ameer Alkayali, 18, is seen in the video being spray-painted on early Tuesday morning. Alkayali, a Palestinian-American, just finished his freshman year at the University of Cincinnati. He has been protesting with Case students since the first day of their encampment last week when he was also detained and released.

“I stood against the wall, and the painters asked ‘Should we continue?’ The cops showed general confusion and didn’t tell them to stop,” he said. “So, as seen in the video, they continue to just paint right over us.

“They told us to not put our hands in front of the machine because it’s dangerous. And we put our hands up, and they still continued to paint on our hands and sprayed us with it?”

He said he plans to take legal action against Case’s administration and its public safety department.

“We were coughing, and it didn’t come out of my skin for hours,” he said. “Like it’s still in my hair. I can see it under my nails, and there was no sort of medical or any assistance with the situation after from Case or local police.”
The poor, suffering darlings.

M. Murcek,

I didn't realize you came out of CWRU - my compliments! I grew up just a few miles down I77 from there.

And this reminded me of an event in Public Square in the early 90s. A Maoist group decided to have a public rally, and were met (and heavily outnumbered) by local residents who had fled Communism; a pretty good sized subset of the Cleveland area population.

The Maoists got beaten and beaten hard, while the cops watched. And when the fun was over, the Maoists were arrested...for inciting a riot.

#6  I graduated from Case Institute of Technology in 1969. Case merged into Western Reserve University to become CWRU. At that time, the Viet Nam war was raging. Case had very few protests - we were getting jobs with defense contractors. Since the merger, things have gone down hill. I read somewhere that FIRE rated CWRU one of the worst for free speech.

#8  What is a U Cincinnati student doing a a Cleveland encampment?

Lots of commuters at the University of Cincinnati, many improving themselves part time via programs supported by their employer — 20% of undergrads and almost half of grad students are part time, so they’re more serious. As are the many students in co-op programs alternating semesters of classes and work at companies in their chosen field. UC invented formal co-op programs over a century ago — it’s part of the reason the school’s students carry considerably less debt than elsewhere.

There were protests at UC early on, but I think they’ve given up. Between the letter from Ohio State Attorney General David Yost to all the university presidents in the state reminding them that he will prosecute as a felony protesters who cover their faces, and the public reminder announced by his office that it is illegal in the state of Ohio for public colleges and universities to contract with businesses or groups involved in boycotting or divesting from Israel, the atmosphere is decidedly against the small number of protesting idiots.

But there might be legal hurdles about divesting. After similar protests at Ohio State last week, The Columbus Dispatch reported that Ohio Revised Code Section 9.76, signed into law by then-Gov. John Kasich in 2016 and amended in 2022, prohibits state agencies like universities from contracting with companies boycot or disinvest from Israel. The law doesn't explicitly prohibit universities from divesting from Israel, but Ohio Attorney General's Office spokesperson Bethany McCorkle told The Dispatch that the state law has that effect anyway.

Biden vows US will not supply weapons for Israel's offensive attack on Hamas-controlled Rafah

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect.

"I made clear that if they go into Rafah — they haven’t gotten into Rafah yet — if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities, to deal with that problem," Biden told CNN

Biden’s threat drew swift condemnation from Israel supporters in Congress and followed days of obfuscation by the White House about reports the administration had stopped the transmission of powerful precision bombs. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed to Congress earlier Wednesday the shipment had been "paused," but claimed a final decision about its fate had not yet been made.

Uyghurs, Tibetans Condemn France for Hosting 'Genocidal Ogre' Xi Jinping
[Breitbart] Human rights activists and Uyghur organization leaders staged a protest on Monday in Paris to condemn President Emmanuel Macron’s enthusiastic welcome to China’s genocidal dictator Xi Jinping.

Xi landed in Paris on Sunday for an extended tour of Europe also including stops in Russia-friendly Serbia and one of China’s most eager partners in the predatory Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Hungary. In France, Xi held a trilateral meeting on Monday with Macron and European Union President Ursula von der Leyen that focused primarily on economic cooperation. Reports from the meeting indicated that neither Macron nor von der Leyen address the rampant human rights abuses Xi has commanded the Communist Party to commit in China, most prominently the deliberate extermination of the Uyghur people of occupied East Turkistan.

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The court in Kaliningrad upheld the refusal to limit Nina Tseretilova’s parental rights, but after this decision she herself offered to return the children to her husband’s relatives in Dagestan, the children’s grandfather said. Their father said that he remains abroad for now.

As the Caucasian Knot reported, in March 2021, the court satisfied the request of a resident of Dagestan for custody of the children, and on July 16 limited the parental rights of the father of the children, from whom the mother was divorced. In October of the same year, the children were handed over to their mother.

I also somewhat expect some shenanigans regarding his health just prior to, or immediately after, the election (getting the sympathy vote) and a substitute will be called in.
