How L.A. County became coronavirus epicenter: Slower shutdown, density, poverty among theories
h/t Instapundit
[LAT] - In mid-March, as the specter of a society-upending pandemic grew, Los Angeles County emerged as something of a bright spot.

When Bay Area counties mandated on March 16 that all residents stay at home, officials said it didn’t make sense in L.A. County because far fewer cases of the coronavirus had been detected.
Bureaucrats were naturally anti-locker because they don't like interruptions in their routines. Now, of course, lockup became routine
"We don’t have the same trajectory that they have up north," L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said that day when asked about a stay-at-home order.
Wonder if she consulted with the eminent and estimable Dr Ioannides?
Two months later, the situation has shifted dramatically. L.A. County now has the highest rate of deaths from COVID-19 in the state, and the second highest infection rate. On Friday, federal officials singled out Los Angeles because of its stubbornly high case counts of the coronavirus, despite precautions to slow the spread.

...Compared with cities nationwide, Los Angeles’ rate of COVID-19 cases and deaths has been relatively low.

...But the region has emerged as an outlier within California. In L.A. County, 426 out of every 100,000 people have tested positive for COVID-19, compared with 270 in San Francisco. In L.A., 20 out of every 100,000 residents have died of COVID-19, compared with 4 in San Francisco.

...To try to make sense of these trends, data crunchers at the L.A. County Public Health Department recently ran some numbers, said chief science officer Dr. Paul Simon.

They looked into whether L.A. County’s population was older than the rest of the state’s. In Italy, an older-than-average population was believed to have contributed to that country’s alarmingly high death rate. But the L.A. County analysis found that its population was not older than the rest of the state, and perhaps even skewed a little younger, Simon said.

Analysts also looked into whether the county’s residents were more likely to have diabetes, high blood pressure or obesity compared with the rest of the state, factors that could make them more likely to die from COVID-19. Again, they found no difference, he said.
So, what's the answer? Can you guess without peeking?

New Disturbing Details Emerge In Case Of Elderly Man Who Was Beaten At Michigan Nursing Home
h/t Instapundit
[Daily Wire] - The father of the 20-year-old man who allegedly beat an elderly man in a Michigan nursing home last week, which went viral this week after video of the alleged incident was viewed millions of times on social media, says that his son was not supposed to be at the nursing home, but was taken there because he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Guccifer 2.0's Hidden Agenda
[ConsortiumNews] Why would an alleged GRU officer supposedly part of an operation to deflect Russian culpability suggest that Assange "may be connected with Russians?", asks Tim Leonard.

In December, I reported on digital forensics evidence relating to Guccifer 2.0 and highlighted several key points about the mysterious persona that Special Counsel Robert Mueller claims was a front for Russian intelligence to leak Democratic Party emails to WikiLeaks:
  • Guccifer 2.0 fabricated evidence to claim credit for hacking the DNC (using files that were really Podesta attachments).

  • Guccifer 2.0’s Russian breadcrumbs mostly came from deliberate processes & needless editing of documents.

  • Guccifer 2.0’s Russian communications signals came from the persona choosing to use a proxy server in Moscow and choosing to use a Russian VPN service as end-points (and they used an email service that forwards the sender’s IP address, which made identifying that signal a relatively trivial task.)

  • A considerable volume of evidence pointed at Guccifer 2.0’s activities being in American timezones (twice as many types of indicators were found pointing at Guccifer 2.0’s activities being in American timezones than anywhere else).

  • The American timezones were incidental to other activities (eg. blogging, social media, emailing a journalist, archiving files, etc) and some of these were recorded independently by service providers.

  • A couple of pieces of evidence with Russian indicators present had accompanying locale indicators that contradicted this which suggested the devices used hadn’t been properly set up for use in Russia (or Romania) but may have been suitable for other countries (including America).

On the same day that Guccifer 2.0 was plastering Russian breadcrumbs on documents through a deliberate process, choosing to use Russian-themed end-points and fabricating evidence to claim credit for hacking the DNC, the operation attributed itself to WikiLeaks.

This article questions what Guccifer 2.0’s intentions were in relation to WikiLeaks in the context of what has been discovered by independent researchers during the past three years.

TIMING
On June 12, 2016, in an interview with ITV’s Robert Peston, Julian Assange confirmed that WikiLeaks had emails relating to Hillary Clinton that the organization intended to publish. This announcement was prior to any reported contact with Guccifer 2.0 (or with DCLeaks).

On June 14, 2016, an article was published in The Washington Post citing statements from two CrowdStrike executives alleging that Russian intelligence hacked the DNC and stole opposition research on Trump. It was apparent that the statements had been made in the 48 hours prior to publication as they referenced claims of kicking hackers off the DNC network on the weekend just passed (June 11-12, 2016).

On that same date, June 14, DCLeaks contacted WikiLeaks via Twitter DM and for some reason suggested that both parties coordinate their releases of leaks. (It doesn’t appear that WikiLeaks responded until September 2016)....

Europe
EU Planning "Vaccination Passport" Since 2018
[Off-Guardian] A report published by the European Commission in late 2019 reveals that the EU has been looking to increase the scope and power of vaccination programmes since well before the current "pandemic".

The endpoint of the Roadmap is, among many other things, to introduce a "common vaccination card/passport" for all EU citizens.

This proposal will be appearing before the commission in 2022, with a "feasibility study" set to run from 2019 through 2021 (meaning, as of now, it's about halfway through).

To underline the point: The "vaccination roadmap" is not an improvised response to the Covid19 pandemic, but rather an ongoing plan with roots going back to 2018, when the EU released a survey of the public's attitude toward vaccines titled "2018 State of Vaccine Confidence"

On the back of this research, the EU then commissioned a technical report titled "Designing and implementing an immunisation information system", on – among other things – the plausibility of an EU-wide vaccination monitoring system.

In the 3rd quarter of 2019 these reports were all combined into the latest version of the the "Vaccination Roadmap", a long-term policy plan to spread vaccine "awareness and understanding" whilst counteracting "vaccine myths" and combatting "vaccine hesitancy".

You can read the entire report here, but below are some of the more concerning highlights [emphasis throughout is ours]:

"Examine the feasibility of developing a common vaccinationcard/passport for EU citizens"
"Develop EU guidance for establishing comprehensive electronic immunization information systems for effective monitoring of immunization programmes."
"overcome the legal and technical barriers impeding the interoperability of national immunisation information systems"

On the 12th September 2019, at the joint EU-WHO "Global Vaccination Summit", they announced the "10 Actions Towards Vaccination for All", which cover much of the same ground.

One month later, in October 2019, Event 201 was held.

For those who don't know, Event 201 was a simulated pandemic exercise focusing on a zoonotic novel coronavirus originating in bats. It was sponsored by Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, the World Economic Forum, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The result of the simulation was seven key suggestions.

In November of 2019, these suggestions were published as a "call to action".

One month later, China reported the first cases of Covid19.

To be clear here (and forestall any below-the-line arguments): this is not about vaccines, their effectiveness, safety or lack thereof.

The point is that proposed COVID countermeasures, which have been presented to the public as emergency measures thought up on the fly by panicking institutions, have in fact existed since before the emergence the disease.

They already wanted to monitor your vaccination records and tie that to your passport, introduce mandatory vaccinations and clampdown on "misinformation". They just didn't have a reason yet.

This was a situation which required a crisis and, fortuitously, it got one.

The exact ratio of contrivance to happenstance will never be known. What we DO know, at this point, is that Sars-Cov-2 is nothing like the threat originally reported, they admit as much themselves.

We also know they keep churning out the fear anyway.

And, thanks to documents like this, maybe now we're starting to see why.

#1  The EU is behind. There’s been a formal international vaccination certificate for decades, approved by the WHO. It goes in one’s passport to document that one has received the required vaccinations for those countries that require visitors to show they have received certain vaccinations for entry. The American version can be seen here.

But that is just an official, standardized form. The trailing daughters required a note from their doctor before they started at the local public school that they’d had certain required vaccinations, notes from the doctor every year documenting that they’d had the standard physical before they could play on their soccer teams, and another doctor’s note that they were inoculated against meningitis before they could go to university.

#4  WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KGO) -- Doctors at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek say they have seen more deaths by suicide during this quarantine period than deaths from the COVID-19 virus.

The head of the trauma [unit] in the department believes mental health is suffering so much, it is time to end the shelter-in-place order. ...

The numbers are unprecedented, he said.

"We've never seen numbers like this, in such a short period of time," he said. "I mean we've seen a year's worth of suicide attempts in the last four weeks."

#6  Indeed.

Deaths from foregone surgeries and other forms of urgent care denied because of the retarded lockdown will be even greater than the toll from increased suicides, addiction and violence.

We're already seeing this increase in the CDC's own data. The lockdown is killing as many people as it is saving lives.

China-Japan-Koreas
Several Universities Attempt to Block Release of Documents Regarding China Ties
[American Greatness] Several American universities are fighting to block the release of documents confirming their ties to China, which are being sought by both the Department of Education and Congress, as reported by The College Fix.

The Department of Education’s General Counsel, Reed Rubinstein, sent a letter to Congress confirming that when the Department attempted to acquire said documents, lawyers on behalf of the universities claimed an exemption to the Freedom of Information Act to keep the records sealed. Rubinstein’s letter did not name any of the schools involved in the investigation.

As previously reported by American Greatness, several Ivy League schools, including Harvard and Yale, have been under investigation for failing to report all of their foreign donations. More recently, a former professor at Emory University was convicted for failing to report donations from the Chinese government.

The increased scrutiny towards American colleges comes as part of a broader nationwide skepticism over any aspect of American society that China is involved in, as a result of the country’s mishandling of the coronavirus outbreak. There have been calls for a wide variety of punishments for China, from efforts to remove American manufacturing to a ban on Chinese students coming to study in the U.S.

Scientists walk back prediction that US could be coronavirus-free by fall
[NYP] The US could finally be free of the coronavirus in late September, and the whole world can expect to put the pandemic behind them in December, say scientists in Singapore.

The rosy forecasts are from the Singapore University of Technology and Design, where researchers are using artificial intelligence to continually update their charting of the pandemic’s "life cycle" by country.

At the end of April, predictions showed that the US would be virus-free by Sept. 20 and the UK could see the end of the coronavirus by Aug. 27, Metro.co.uk reported Saturday.

But the group has since taken down its country-by-country charts from its website — instead posting a disclaimer that the research was strictly for educational purposes and may contain errors.

Scientists at the university caution that their results are continually evolving and inexact— and that the predictions should not lead to hasty ends of lockdowns around the world.

"Over-optimism based on some predicted end dates is dangerous because it may loosen our disciplines and controls and cause the turnaround of the virus," they said.

#7  Scientific understanding is supposed to evolve as new data comes in. This action means they finally have come to understand that their models are fatally flawed in ways they do not yet understand, their artificial intelligence clearly not being smart enough to get the job done. No doubt once they succeed in predicting the past they’ll start posting actual predictions of the future again.

Ioannidis concluded this -- and anybody else looking at the CDC's Diamond Princess cruiseship data would've come to the same conclusion -- months ago.

He was ignored. Instead, our policymakers imposed this ridiculous lockdown based on the WHO model's 3.4% IFR -- 10 times greater than what the actual, empirical data showed.

Ilanna Mercer - Real Societies Use Prophylactics
[American Greatness] Ideas about liberty have evolved, thankfully.

Egas Moniz, a Portuguese neurologist, received a Nobel Prize for performing lobotomies on his vulnerable, unconsenting psychiatric patients—or, rather, victims. Today, he is the just recipient of the contempt of decent mental-health practitioners. (Those who do not hold him in contempt are not decent.)

The same fate may await Alan Dershowitz’s status as a constitutional scholar given his coronavirus jurisprudence. Dershowitz has declared that the state has the power of precedent to drag you to a doctor’s office and plunge a vaccine-filled syringe into your veins.

Contra Dershowitz’s forced-vaccination violence, and contrary to the opinions of many of my friends on the Right, social distancing and masking are mere inconveniences. They are not rights-infringing. Being inconvenienced is not the same as being unfree.

That you are asked to sanitize, suit-up, and give people space means only that you are inconvenienced. It means that you are being requested not to encroach upon others—not to rub-up against them, or expel sputum on them. This is but an inconvenience.

In the context of a pandemic, these are quotidian requests, to be associated with civility and comity. They crimp your style, not your rights. The thing that infringes on your natural rights to sustain life and liberty is the lockdown.

Sequestering you so that you cannot feed yourself and your dependents is a violation of both natural and constitutional rights.

But ordinary acts of prevention? Please.

Will It Be War? Venezuela Escorts Iranian Tankers in 'American Lake.' U.S. Considers a Strike
[PJ] The Venezuelan Navy is escorting 5 Iranian tankers filled with gasoline that are now nearing the Venezuelan coast, leaving the United States with few options to stop them.

Both Iran and Venezuela are under economic sanctions by the U.S. and the trade in oil is seen as illegal in Washington. The U.S. Navy has ships in the Caribbean that could interdict the Iranian tankers before they make port. Sources in Washington have sought to downplay the military option.

Down to the bottom line:

If Admiral Miller is right and there are Revolutionary Guard forces on the ships, it would make intercepting the vessels not only legal but necessary. With the civil war in Syria winding down, Iran can afford to project its power by sending forces that would be loyal to Nicolas Maduro. Given the Guard’s behavior in Syria toward civilians and reluctant Syrian troops, it would be a brutal deployment.

Realistically, a confrontation on the high seas with Iran or Venezuela would no doubt result in a U.S. military victory. But it would complicate our efforts to force Maduro out of office by using international pressure. Our allies would scatter if we were seen as heavy-handed enforcement of the sanctions.

‘We have to resist': Hundreds in Hong Kong protest China's proposed security measures for city
[France24] Hundreds of people protested in Hong Kong on Sunday against Beijing’s controversial new plan to directly impose national security laws on the city, where a tight police presence guarded China's representative office in the financial hub.

The rally came as the city's government sought to reassure the public and foreign investors over the tough security laws proposed by Beijing that sent a chill through financial markets and drew a swift rebuke from foreign governments, international human rights groups and some business lobbies.

Protesters gathered in the bustling shopping district of Causeway Bay where police conducted stop-and-search operations and warned people not to violate a ban on gatherings of more than eight people, imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus.

"Now is the beginning of the end and time is really running out in Hong Kong, and that's the reason for us, even under the outbreak of COVID-19. We still need to gather our strength to protest," said democracy activist Joshua Wong.

In drafting the legislation, which could see the setting up of Chinese government intelligence agencies in the global financial centre, Beijing plans to circumvent Hong Kong’s lawmaking body, the Legislative Council.

The move has sparked concerns over the fate of the "one country, two systems" formula that has governed Hong Kong since the former UK colony's return to Chinese rule in 1997. The arrangement guarantees the city broad freedoms not seen on the mainland, including a free press and independent judiciary.

Georgia's Giant Lizard Invaders
[Garden & Gun] Reaching lengths of four feet, with distinctive black and white coloring, it’s safe to say an adult tegu stands out in a Georgia pine forest. Popular in the pet trade and native to Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina, these predatory lizards are the most recent on the list of invasive species that could pose big problems for Southern ecosystems. The good news? It might still be early enough to stop them.

"When these lizards get too large, people just release them," says Dr. Chris Jenkins of the Orianne Society, an amphibian and reptile conservation group based in Tiger, Georgia. Released pet tegus are the most likely cause of the populations that have cropped up in southeastern portions of the state over the last few years, prompting a recent warning from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, which is spearheading an effort to eradicate the invaders. Once in the wild, the reptiles are well suited to establishing a foothold. "Tegus can live in a lot of places, and they eat a lot of things," says Georgia DNR biologist Daniel Sollenberger. Jenkins adds that their large size enables them to cover long distances, and that they have a high reproductive output, with females laying clutches of thirty eggs on average.

‘Tablighi Jamaat members added to initial spread of Covid-19 in Indore, Bhopal’: Madhya Pradesh CM
[HindustanTimes] CM Chouhan said that the Jamaatis who attended a religious gathering in New Delhi’s Nizamuddin in March travelled to other areas in the country and contributed to the spread coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)

The members of Tablighi Jamaat
A peaceful group of itinerant Deobandi preachers who form one of al-Qaeda's recruiting arms...
contributed to the initial spread of coronavirus in Madhya Pradesh, particularly in cities like Indore and Bhopal, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in an interview.

CM Chouhan said that the Jamaatis, who attended a religious gathering in New Delhi’s Nizamuddin in March, which emerged as a coronavirus hotspot in the country, travelled to other areas in the country and contributed to the spread of the virus. "They did not act responsibly," Chouhan told news agency PTI.
As John Frum explained on April 5th:

From January to March, almost 8500 stayed in the Tablighi Jamaat Delhi mosque complex, sometimes 2000 at a time. Two thousand men eating from communal plates with their hands, with the plates being reused for the next group without washing. Two thousand men using a pool of water for wudu. Washing their feet, hands, arms, noses, mouths in the same pool of water with 2000 other men.
He said these Jamaatis further added to the problem by not cooperating with government and not coming forth for timely testing.
It’s the easy but uncomfortable jihad of the Plague, dude. How dare you judge with your Unbeliver judginess!
On the Covid-19 situation in the state, Chouhan said that the administration is monitoring the situation continuously.

"Situation seems to be improving and stable now. More than 1,500 patients of Indore, Bhopal and Ujjain have recovered and are well now," Chouhan said.

Madhya Pradesh is struggling with the rising number of Covid-19 cases. With 6,170 coronavirus cases in the state as of Saturday morning, the state stands sixth on the national Covid-19 tally after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat
...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
, Delhi and Rajasthan.

Three thousand and eighty-nine people have recovered from Covid-19 in Madhya Pradesh or have been discharged from the hospital while 272 people have bit the dust. Indore, Bhopal and Ujjain are the top affected districts in the state.

The leading expert on women's brains says they are more likely to get Alzheimer's
[The Hill - Changing America] Dr. Lisa Mosconi has been thinking about thinking for quite some time — in fact, since she was just a child.

"My parents are both nuclear physicists," she recounts, which encouraged her to catch the science bug from an early age.

A native Italian, she studied neuroscience and nuclear medicine at the University of Florence and NYU before joining Weill Cornell School of Medicine in 2016. Since 2018, she has been director of the Women’s Brain Initiative and associate director of the first Alzheimer’s Prevention Clinic in the United States.

Mosconi’s latest book, The XX Brain, sets out to detail the groundbreaking findings of her research into the comparatively understudied world of women's brains, including their cognitive distinctions from men’s brains, beginning at conception and continuing throughout the aging process.

Much of her ambitious research into women’s brains and nutrition is illuminated by a critical familial link: "I have a family history of Alzheimer's disease that affects the women in my family," she says. "And that's how I learned that it is not just my family, but that Alzheimer's disease really affects more women than men."

Africa Subsaharan
New Report Reveals China's Massive Surveillance Build-Up in Africa
[LI] China is running a massive surveillance network in Africa, reveals a new report published by the Heritage Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank. The intelligence gathering operation was most likely run through State-owned Chinese companies involved in building critical government infrastructure. These firms have built or renovated around 186 top government buildings and 14 sensitive governmental telecommunication networks across the African continent, which include a number of presidential palaces, parliaments, and military installations.

Communist China is likely using this intelligence leverage to gain influence over African governments and recruit assets, the 23-page report warned. According to the report’s findings, Beijing could also be using this network to gain intelligence on rival U.S. companies, and insights into U.S. diplomatic strategies and military counterterrorism operations."Beijing likely uses surveillance to, among other things, advantage its companies competing for contracts, spy on U.S. officials, and influence African officials" the report cautioned.

Suspect killed in Texas Navy base shooting identified as Syrian-born U.S. citizen, Updated
Not major news, but now we know the jihadi is an American citizen. Next we just need to discover when and why he moved to the U.S.
[MSN] The suspect killed at the scene of Thursday's "terrorism-related" shooting at a U.S. naval air base in Texas has been identified as 20-year-old Adam Aalim Alsahli,
...previously Adam Salim Alsahli, so hopefully the above is a typo...
a Syrian-born U.S. citizen, federal law enforcement officials said on Friday. In the Thursday morning attack, the gunman shot up Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, wounding one sailor, a member of the base security force, but the assailant was the only person killed, the FBI said.
Ask, and the universe delivers. Update from the Center for Immigration Studies website at 11:40 a.m. EDT:
The Syria-born attacker killed Thursday morning during an apparent jihad-inspired attack on a Texas naval air station was neither a resettled refugee nor an asylum-seeker who slipped through security vetting. Instead, CIS has learned that he fell under an immigration category unusual for foreign-born extremists who have attacked inside the United States.

Adam Alsahli, 20 at the time of his death Thursday, was already a U.S. citizen when he moved from the Middle East to Corpus Christi, Texas, in 2014 with his mother (and likely several siblings) at the height of the Syrian civil war, by virtue of his father's American citizenship, according to two sources familiar with the family's immigration status. The attacker's 75-year-old father, Salim Alsahli, became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1984, the sources told CIS, and subsequently seems to have sired a family back in Syria that included Adam Alsahli's birth in 1999.

Although his children and their mother were born in and resided in the Middle East, the father's U.S. citizenship conferred U.S. citizenship on Adam Alsahli, since he properly registered a declaration at a U.S. embassy or consulate office overseas. That apparently happened with Adam Alsahli because by the age of three, in the year 2002, he was granted an American passport that was repeatedly renewed over the years, sources said.

In 2014, at the height of the civil war inside Syria, Adam and at least his mother moved to the United States. The mother is currently a legal permanent resident who has a pending application for U.S. citizenship, the sources said.

With an American citizen father anchored inside the United States, Adam Alsahli, his siblings, and their mother would not have entered any refugee resettlement pipeline, nor would they have had to apply for asylum, processes that would have required fairly extensive security vetting. Adam Alsahli, then about 15 years old, would have been moved right to the front of the line with almost no security vetting; likely the same would have been true of his mother and siblings.

Little is known at this point about Alsahli's interest in Islamic extremist theology or connections to foreign groups, as the FBI continues an investigation. Nor is it yet known where the family was living prior to entering the United States in 2014.

At about 6:15 a.m. Thursday, Alsahli drove a vehicle up to the gate of the naval air station near Corpus Christi, exited, and began firing shots at military personnel. One round hit the bullet-proof vest of a sailor guarding the gate, which drew a response from other armed sailors, who killed Alsahli.

One well-placed source told CIS that Alsahli drove up to the gate wearing an Arab head-wrap garment and blaring Arabic language music from a vehicle stereo. Arabic-language writings were found inside the vehicle. Although these details could not be independently confirmed, the FBI stated at a press conference later Thursday that Alsahli's attack was "terrorism-related". A linkedIn page for Adam Alsahi of Corpus Christ contains only one bit of biographical information, which is that he is a "student at Umm Al-Qura University" in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
A discussion of the implications of this situation continues at the link.

US adding 33 Chinese companies, institutions to economic black list
[Jpost] The US Commerce Department said on Friday it is adding 33 Chinese companies and other institutions to an economic blacklist for human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
violations and to address US national security concerns involving weapons of mass destruction and other military activities.

The department said it was sanctioning nine companies and institutions saying they were "complicit in human rights violations and abuses committed in China’s campaign of repression, mass arbitrary detention, forced labor and high-technology surveillance against Uighurs" and others.

The government cited seven commercial entities for enabling China’s high-technology surveillance. The Commerce Department also added 24 governmental and commercial organizations to the economic list for supporting procurement of items for use by the Chinese military.

The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. Kim Jong Un makes appearance at military meeting, state media reports
Ah, but is it the real one or one of the body doubles?
[NY Post] North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has emerged in public for the first time since May 1, hosting a military meeting, state media KCNA reported, according to Reuters.
If he sees his shadow, 10 more years of famine
"Set forth at the meeting were new policies for further increasing the nuclear war deterrence of the country and putting the strategic armed forces on a high alert operation," KCNA said.

Photos show a robust-looking Kim sitting at an oversize desk, a white mug in front of him, presiding over rows of attendees.
Uh huh. No reason State Media would lie, right?
The Hermit Kingdom leader's last appearance ‐ after being rumored to be sick or even dead ‐ was to cut the ribbon for the opening of a fertilizer factory.

There was more speculation this week about Kim's whereabouts after his supreme commander emblem had been erased from North Korean TV.

Some surmised that Kim may have been merely holing up in his lavish seaside estate .

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) in a statement said Habib Naseri, one of the prominent commanders of Taliban, departed this vale of tears which he had sustained during an airstrike a week ago.

The statement further added that Naseri sustained injuries during an airstrike which the Afghan forces conducted in Kanam Village.

The airstrike killed multiple Talibs and maimed several others, the statement said, adding that Naseri died of his wounds on Friday night.

According to Ministry of Defense, Naseri was involved in major terrorist related activities and killings of Kunduz residents.

#2  It is hard to figure the US role in all this. It seems to be supporting the GNA which has provided a home for Islamists of many Muslim organizations. It accepts the support of Erdogan, a man who all concede is determined to revive the Caliphate. It seemingly backs the An Nahda in Tunisia, a Muslim Brotherhood operation. It does not appear to support a putative Egyptian ally what supports the LNA and will probably invade Libya if Haftar's forces are nearing defeat. It is a complex situation and one wonders who is advising Pompeo?

#5  #US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo pressed #Libya’s Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) for a ceasefire and criticized the flow of weapons as Tripoli pushes back against a year-old offensive.

Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but I don't recall Pompeo asking for a ceasefire when the LNA was advancing. It's possible that Uncle Sam is rooting for the LNA. After all, Haftar was a 20-year US resident.

#6  In the past week the LNA attempt to take Tripoli has stalled. The LNA has retreated from some forward positions. This all occrred when planes provided by Turkey started to show up in Libya. Now Russia is reported to have provided the LNA with planes of superior capacity. There is back and forth, but one thing is for sure, neither Egypt for Saudi Arabia wants the GNA to emerge the victor.

#8  It's more serious than that. It's been reported that the Turks have transported over 17,000 Syrian jihadis to Libya along with several hundred Turkish troops and a LOT of gear. That probably more than doubles GNA fighting strength and allows them to go the offensive. Like any rented item, the Turks/GNA are going to drive the Syrians like, well, rented mules.

In addition, Turkish UAVs are tearing up LNA and Russian equipment. They don't seems to have a counter for it, which is surprising given the vaunted Russian electronic warfare reputation.

cases dropped to zero in China for the first time Saturday but surged in India and overwhelmed hospitals across Latin America - both in countries lax about lockdowns and those lauded for firm, early confinement. The virus hit a reopened church in Germany and probably a restaurant, too.

The pandemic's persistence stymied authorities struggling to keep people safe and revive their economies at the same time, disrupting the Memorial Day weekend in the United States and collective celebrations around the Moslem world marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

[WashingtonExaminer] President Trump continued to donate his presidential salary by signing over his latest paycheck to the Department of Health and Human Services.

The president has made his quarterly donation of $100,000 to several government initiatives that he values, including a payment to the Department of Homeland Security to build the southern border wall and a donation to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health to combat opioid addiction. In March, Trump gave his first quarterly paycheck of 2020 to HHS to help the department work to contain the coronavirus.

Ukrainian MP Found Dead With Gunshot Wound To The Head
[Zero Hedge] Ukrainian MP Valery Davydenko of the Dovira faction was found dead in his office bathroom with a gunshot wound to the head, according to a post by MP Ilya Kiva on his Facebook page and confirmed by local media.

"His body with a gunshot wound has just been found in the office of an MP Valeriy Davydenko. The circumstances are being investigated," he wrote.

According to the Ukrainian Truth news agency, a weapon was found near the body.

"The body of MP Valeriy Davydenko was found in the toilet in his own office with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. An investigative police group is working at the scene," said Deputy Interior Minister Anton Herashchenko, who added "Police and prosecutors will check all possible versions of the tragedy."

Davydenko was a defendant in several corruption cases - including the theft of funds from the country's Agriculture Fund. In February, 2014, Davydenko and Borys Prykhodko - another MP from the Dovira faction, were accused of embezzling US$75 million while Prykhodko was the First Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine.

Following Davydenko's death, ex-People's Deputy Ihor Mosiychuk called for the immediate arrest of Prykhodko, who he called the "accomplice in the theft of the agrarian fund."

#4  Follow the money.

Shot himself or was shot?

Interestingly, after Davydenko’s death, ex-MP Ihor Mosiychuk called for the immediate arrest of another MP from the Dovira group, Borys Prykhodko. “Take under protection or better into custody the newly shot MP Valeriy Davydenko’s accomplice in theft of the agrarian fund, another MP from the Dovira group Borys Prykhodko! Oh, another “suicide” is coming up…,” Mosiychuk wrote in the Telegram channel.

It is about the fact that Davydenko and Prykhodko were involved in another criminal case – on the theft of funds from the Agrarian Fund. Allegedly, in February 2014, Prykhodko, while holding the position of First Deputy Head of the National Bank of Ukraine, illegally seized 74,000 dollars from the Agrarian Fund by prior agreement with the Chairman of the Board of Agrarian Fund and Brokbusinessbank officials.

The investigation established that the fund placed money on the deposit account of Brokbusinessbank without the permission of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, and the bank spent these funds on its own needs. Davydenko, who worked at the Ministry of Agriculture at the time, was called Prykhodko’s business partner.

MP Anton Polyakov, who wrote a lot about this process, wrote in a Telegram channel that he would not believe in Davydenko’s suicide even if it was announced by law enforcement officers.

Egyptian police kill 21 terrorists who plotted attacks on Eid El-Fitr
[AlAhram] Egypt’s police potted 21 Lions of Islam in shootouts in North Sinai. The interior ministry said the Lions of Islam had planned to carry out attacks during Eid El-Fitr holiday.

The Ministry of Interior said on Saturday the police carried out the raid after Egypt's national security apparatus had received information that a terrorist group were using a farm in North Sinai as a hideout in which they were plotting and training for attacks.

Some of the Lions of Islam were also using a house in Bir El-Abd area as a foothold from which they were planning to launch terrorist attacks during Eid al-Fitr holiday, the ministry said.

Both the house and the farm were raided concurrently, and during the shootouts 14 bad boyz were potted in the farm. The ministry said police found 13 automatic rifles, three bombs, an boom belt, and a wireless radio in their possession.

At the Bir El-Abd house shootout the police potted seven Lions of Islam and found four automatic rifles, two bombs, and an boom belt.

Across Biden Charitable Organizations, A Refusal to Disclose Funding
[Washington Free Beacon] Government watchdog raises questions about Chinese influence at University of Pennsylvania's Biden Center.

When Joe Biden announced he was opening a foreign policy center at the University of Pennsylvania, the goals for the project were ambitious.

At its founding in 2018, Biden described the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement as "a place where policymakers here and abroad will know they can be in touch with some of the best minds."

The center is one of several organizations Biden founded since leaving the White House in 2017, including the domestic policy-focused Biden Institute at the University of Delaware and the Biden Cancer Initiative, all launched in 2017. All three entities have refused to reveal the sources of their funding, a potential landmine for the Democrats' presumptive presidential nominee that raises questions about the influence of individual, corporate, and foreign donations on the presidential candidate.

The lack of transparency has drawn the attention of a watchdog group that is now demanding that the federal government investigate whether foreign money has flowed to the Biden Center in Philadelphia.

Many of Biden's nonprofit entities have served as landing spots for his former—and potentially future—White House aides. The Penn Biden Center, which had a "soft opening" in March 2017 and officially opened its doors in February 2018, has served as a national security council-in-waiting for Biden, employing his top White House foreign policy advisers Colin Kahl, Michael Carpenter, and Jeffrey Prescott.

Asked about its funding, a spokesman for the Biden Center told the Washington Free Beacon that it is "a question for my colleagues at main university." Penn spokesman Stephen MacCarthy did not respond to multiple requests for comment. The Biden campaign declined to comment. The Biden Cancer Initiative, which had $2.1 million in total assets in 2018 before suspending its operations last year, according to its tax records, declined to provide a list of donors. The Biden Institute at the University of Delaware has also declined to reveal its funders.

While the Penn Biden Center has not released information on its donors, foreign funding to the University of Pennsylvania has risen more than threefold since its soft opening, spiking to over $100 million last year from $31 million in 2016, according to Department of Education records. China has been the largest contributor during that time, even as the U.S. federal government and prosecutors have ramped up scrutiny into the Chinese government's influence-buying and espionage operations on American campuses.

Between March 2017 and the end of 2019, the University of Pennsylvania received a total of $61 million in gifts and contracts from China, according to Department of Education records. In the preceding four years, the university received just $19 million from China....

Take That Limeys! French Coast Guard escorts boat migrants to British waters
[Resett.no] British politician Nigel Farage was criticized for claiming that patrol boats from the French coastguard were escorting boat migrants into British waters.

The criticism was partly that he broke quarantine rules, but also that he was heartless "towards people struggling to survive", as Christine Jardin of the Liberal Democrats puts it.

Nigel Farage is the politician and EU opponent who led the UKIP (United Kingdom Independence Party). He received much of the credit for the British opting out of the EU. Today he heads the Brexit party and has his own program on LPC Radio.

An increasing number of boat migrants Muslim invaders have arrived in the UK lately. The trend is compounded by the Corona crisis, as the number of border crossings with trucks and trailers has been sharply reduced. Farage has called this "the beginning of an invasion ".

SKYNEWS CONFIRMS
The day after Farage claimed he had seen French patrol boats escort boat migrants, parts of the old media admit the same, Breitbart writes . SkyNews says (about a boat with migrants): "They were followed as soon as they left the beach."

According to SkyNews, no attempt was made to stop the boat migrants.

France promised lied last year to stop boat migrants on their way from France.

Nigel Farage has published a movie on Twitter from his tour of the English Channel.

I just witnessed the French Navy escorting illegal migrants into British waters, despite the money we are paying them.

They even tried to prevent us from filming the handover, as you can see in the video.

Two ISIS leaders killed in eastern Syria raid: Coalition
[Rudaw] Two Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) leaders were killed in a joint raid by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and US-led anti-ISIS coalition in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria on Sunday, according to a Coalition statement.

According to the Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) statement released on Friday evening. Ahmad ’Isa Ismail al-Zawi, otherwise known as Abu Ali al-Baghdadi, was the leader of ISIS in North Baghdad, and Ahmad ’Abd Muhammad Hasan al-Jughayfi, a senior supplies and logistics leader across Iraq and Syria, were killed in the May 17 operation.

"The removal of these ISIS leaders will disrupt future attacks against innocent civilians and our security partners and in the region," the statement read.

The deaths of Zawi and Jughayfi deals yet another blow to the turban holy warrior group after the recent transport of senior ISIS leader Nasser al-Qardash to Iraq after being held in detention by the Kurdish-led SDF in eastern Syria for a year. His transfer to Iraq was announced by the Iraqi Intelligence Service on Wednesday.

ISIS controlled vast swathes of Iraq and Syria at the height of its power between 2014 and 2016. Though the group was declared defeated in Iraq in December 2017 and in Syria in March 2019, the group have maintained the ability to carry out turban attacks including kidnappings, killings and ambushes, particularly in rural areas - as reiterated by a Pentagon report on the group's activities published last week.

Though the deaths and detentions of high-profile figures leave a "surely weakened" ISIS, they are not enough to definitively destroy the group, security analyst Husham al-Hashimi told Rudaw on Thursday.

[PJ] This week, House Democrats whose colleagues rushed to investigate President Donald Trump’s coronavirus response amid the ongoing pandemic once again refused to give the green light to an effort to investigate China’s lies and malfeasance regarding the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic. Democrats blocked the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis from investigating China’s malfeasance.

"Coronavirus Committee Dems won’t let us investigate China’s cover-up," House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) tweeted. "Why? — China’s lies caused global suffering & economic devastation — China undermined our efforts to combat the virus — China is reportedly trying to steal our vaccine research They must be held accountable."

Republicans on the committee have repeatedly asked about opening an investigation into China. Lauren Fine, Scalise's communications director, told PJ Media that in a hearing on Thursday, Republicans on the committee again asked about looking into China, and Democrats again refused them.

"It's disappointing‐but not surprising‐that Congressional Democrats have harsher words for President Trump, rather than the Communist Chinese regime responsible for wreaking havoc against our citizens and the rest of the world," Fine told PJ Media. "Republicans on the Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis will continue to press for answers on the origins of this crisis and accountability from the Chinese government and World Health Organization for their deception, and would urge Democrats to put their personal vendetta against President Trump aside to join us in this effort."

Indeed, the effort to block a China investigation seems predicated on the rush to blame Trump for the crisis and ignore the horrific abuses of the Chinese Communist Party. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), perhaps the central figure in Democrats' impeachment of President Donald Trump, began circulating draft legislation to investigate Trump's response to the coronavirus. He claimed the investigation is "not an exercise in casting blame or scoring political points," but Republicans are naturally skeptical.

If Democrats are going to investigate President Trump's response to the coronavirus crisis, they should also investigate China's malfeasance. Just last week, Chinese officials threatened "serious consequences" for members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, along with two state attorneys general. The officials named Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Martha McSally (R-Ariz.), and Rick Scott (R-Fla.), along with Reps. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) and Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas).

"The Chinese government is lashing out at those in the U.S. who are appropriately trying to hold them accountable for intentionally misleading us about the nature of the novel coronavirus, where it was spreading and how quickly things were getting out of control. I consider their threats a badge of honor," Banks replied.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) filed a lawsuit last month demanding tens of billions of dollars in damages due to China's coronavirus malfeasance, which allegedly violated Missouri law. Attorney General Lynn Fitch (R-Miss.) filed a lawsuit allowing Mississippians to bring claims against China.

International-UN-NGOs
UN coronavirus aid going to Palestinian terror-linked groups
[Jpost] Millions of dollars of international funding for the Paleostinians’ coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
emergency response, coordinated by the World Health Organization and UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) have gone to organizations with links to terrorism, a new report by NGO Monitor found.

The research institution focused on the funding of non-governmental organizations found that several of the groups funded by OCHA and the WHO are tied to the People’s Front for the Liberation of Paleostine (PFLP), which is recognized as a terrorist organization in Israel, the EU, US and Canada, and had staff members arrested and indicted late last year for the murder of 17-year-old Israeli Rina Schnerb.

Among OCHA’s NGO partners with ties to the PFLP are the Health Work Committees (HWC), Union of Health Work Committees (UHWC), Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC), Union of Paleostinian Women’s Committees (UPWC), and Paleostinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR).

HWC’s Financial and Administration Director Waleed Hanatsheh bankrolled the PFLP that murdered Schnerb, and is currently standing trial for the murder, as is Samer Arbid, UAWC’s financial director. UHWC was identified by USAID as "the PFLP’s health organization."

The NGO Monitor report also pointed out that OCHA stated that the aid money was meant to "respond to the public health needs and immediate humanitarian consequences of the pandemic in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip," but many of the activities funded do not appear to be vital or lifesaving. Rather, anti-Israel advocacy ventures were relabeled COVID-19 without substantive contributions to humanitarian aid.

For example, the OCHA coronavirus response includes a "Joint Statement on Israel’s Obligations vis-a-vis West Bank and Gaza in Face of Coronavirus Pandemic" by 18 NGOs, calling for Israel to lift the blockade on Gaza to let medical supplies in. OCHA notes in the very situation report in which this statement is listed that Israel does allow medical supplies into Gaza.

Another example is Israeli NGO HaMoked receiving funding for an "urgent letter demanding Sheikh Sa’ed checkpoint is opened," "two urgent letters of impacts of closure on Al Jib checkpoint," among other similar actions. These letters by a HaMoked attorney to Israeli officials are part of the organization’s standard tasks. Several other organizations received funding for related letters and blurbs.

One such letter was from the Association for Civil Rights in Israel to Blue and White leader Benny Gantz and his party "demanding that they fulfil their promise to protect democratic institutions and uphold the rule of law," which seems to have little to do with the COVID-19 pandemic in the West Bank and Gaza, and more to do with internal Israeli politics.

Some of the countries that contributed to the COVID-19 emergency response plan were Canada, the EU, La Belle France, Germany, Ireland, Kuwait, Norway, Sweden, Spain and the UK, in addition to international organizations.

NGO Monitor President Prof. Gerald Steinberg said: "Our report provides a snapshot of what humanitarian aid actually looks like in crisis situations, and the accompanying shortcoming. It appears that key factors for OCHA are the goals of procuring of funds for NGO allies and ’padding the stats,’ not providing critical humanitarian aid."

Egypt producing 7.2 bcf per day of natural gas: Cabinet
[AlAhram] Egypt’s production of natural gas stands at an average of 7.2 billion cubic feet (bcf) per day, the cabinet said in a statement on Saturday.

Production stood at 7 bcf last September, up from 6.8 bcf at the end of June 2019.

Rapid growth in Egypt’s natural gas supplies over recent years turned it from a net importer to exporter in late 2018.

In January, Egypt began importing gas from Israel as part of efforts to turn itself into a regional gas hub.

Libya conflict heats up as Turkish air force increases activity
[Jpost] Twitter accounts that follow air traffic revealed unusual movements by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
’s Air Force.

Ottoman Turkish Air Force jets appeared to increase their activity in relation to a conflict in Libya on Saturday. Libya is divided between the Libyan National Army, backed by the UAE and Egypt and the Government of the National Accord in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, backed by Turkey and Qatar

They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
. Turkey has been pouring in drones and armored vehicles and Syrian rebel mercenaries to help Tripoli fight. Russia and others are backing the LNA.

Twitter accounts that follow air traffic revealed unusual movements by Turkey’s Air Force. An account called "Yoruk Isik" posted about "Turkey establishing itself in Libya," showing that the 222nd Ottoman Turkish squadron with two C-130s had allegedly flown from Istanbul to Libya. It was the fourth flight in 24 hours, the commentator noted.

Another user named "Gerjon" noted that Ottoman Turkish air Force E-7 Boeing 737 airborne early warning and control radar aircraft were also active this evening. He argued that the C-130 was in fact a Casa CN-235. Another mysterious Beechcraft Super King turboprop also flew into Libya. Also a Libyan GNA Ilyushin IL-76 flew from Istanbul to Libya. A Qatari C-17A also was thought to be en route to Libya.

Meanwhile it appears that other flights arrived to bolster the LNA. A Syrian Cham Wings flight flew into Benghazi on Friday. It appears that allies of the LNA and GNA are trying to bolster their role in Libya in recent days after Ottoman Turkish drones helped the GNA take a strategic airbase.

The LNA has lost numerous Russian-made Pantsir air defense. They are in desperate need of better weapons to confront Turkey’s drones. There are also questions about damage done to a reinforced hanger at Watiya airbase which appeared to come from a bomb far larger than a Ottoman Turkish drone could have dropped. This means the air war in Libya could be growing. It is a contest between Ottoman Turkish technology and Russian air defense as well as Chinese-made drones apparently supplied from the UAE. So far Turkey’s equipment seems to have the upper hand.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
How Russiagate Began With Obama's Iran Deal Domestic Spying Campaign
[Tablet] Barack Obama warned his successor against hiring Michael Flynn. It was Nov. 10, 2016, just two days after Donald Trump upset Hillary Clinton to become the 45th president of the United States. Trump told aide Hope Hicks that he was bewildered by the president’s warning. Of all the important things Obama could have discussed with him, the outgoing commander in chief wanted to talk about Michael Flynn.

The question of why Obama was so focused on Flynn is especially revealing now. The Department of Justice recently filed to withdraw charges against the retired three-star general for making false statements to the FBI in a Jan. 24, 2017, interview regarding a phone call with a Russian diplomat. The circumstances surrounding the call and subsequent FBI interview have given rise to a vast conspiracy theory that was weaponized to imprison a decorated war hero and a strategic thinker whose battlefield innovations saved countless American lives. There is no evidence that Flynn "colluded" with Russia, and the evidence that Flynn did not make false statements to the FBI has been buried by the bureau, including current Director Christopher Wray.

So if the Obama administration wasn’t alarmed by Flynn’s nonexistent ties to Russia, why was he Obama’s No. 1 target? Why were officials from the previous administration intercepting his phone calls with the Russian ambassador?

The answer is that Obama saw Flynn as a signal threat to his legacy, which was rooted in his July 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran—the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Flynn had said long before he signed on with the Trump campaign that it was a catastrophe to realign American interests with those of a terror state. And now that the candidate he’d advised was the new president-elect, Flynn was in a position to help undo the deal. To stop Flynn, the outgoing White House ran the same offense it used to sell the Iran deal—they smeared Flynn through the press as an agent of a foreign power, spied on him, and leaked classified intercepts of his conversations to reliable echo chamber allies.

In March 2017, after seeing evidence of the Obama administration’s surveillance of Trump associates, Congressman Devin Nunes said it had nothing to do with Russia or the FBI’s ongoing Russia investigation, or similar Russia probes conducted by congressional committees. Nunes’ contention was difficult to make sense of at the time. Wasn’t everything about Russia and whether or not there was, as Congressman Adam Schiff said, more than circumstantial evidence of collusion?

In fact, as Trump prepared to take office after his 2016 upset victory, the Obama White House was focused on the Middle East. "Russia collusion" was the narrative that Hillary Clinton operatives seeded in the media and fed to the FBI to obtain a warrant to spy on the Trump campaign. After the election, the Obama team took it over and used it to hobble the incoming administration.

#2  Superbly detailed and sourced work. Of particular note is the little know fact that Flynn planned a complete review of the justification of every senior staff position throughout the entire IC. White House Considers Panel To Investigate ‘Left-Wing Bias’ In Silicon Valley
[Zero Hedge] Anonymously-sourced media reports published Saturday morning claimed that the White House is looking into the establishment of a panel to investigate complaints of "left-wing bias" in the tech world.

Since the earliest days of his presidential campaign, President Trump has alleged that the mainstream media - CNN, the NYT & WaPo - and Silicon Valley - FB, Twitter, Alphabet, Amazon etc. - were conspiring to try and suppress pro-Trump viewpoints on their platforms, while joining together to promote stories that slammed Trump as a racist and a Russian puppet. Many independent media organizations - including Zero Hedge - have been banned from Twitter, Facebook etc for flimsy reasons.

President Trump infuriated the left after mocking a local TV news reporter who was harassed by pro-Trump protesters at a recent rally. The president has repeatedly alleged that the "far-left" has hijacked the American mainstream media, and has hinted in the past that he planned to take action, though many undoubtedly interpreted these threats as just more of Trump's trademark bluster.

Trump has repeatedly called out what he sees as examples of media bias against him, and revels in taunting the press with boasts about how he and his campaign will once again ride to victory in November.

Several 'experts' quoted by WSJ and others - as well as Twitter itself - insisted that the platforms are totally devoid of political bias. Though the pattern of banning conservative-leaning voices on flimsy pretexts, while allowing left-wingers to make threats and seemingly violate the terms of service whenever, has become - for many - impossible to ignore.
Various ideas have been considered, including forming a committee under the auspices of the White House, or pushing the FTC and FEC to adopt a more aggressive tack while investigating these complaints.

Though this is an anonymously sourced report and in no way (at least, as far as we know) representative of an official commication from the White House, we suspect Trump's critics will seize on it as just the latest example of how Trump is more worried about winning a second term than whether your grandparents live or die.

Coronavirus roundup

Coronavirus cases pass 5.25 million worldwide
[IsraelTimes] The number of coronavirus cases recorded worldwide has passed 5.25 million, more than two thirds of them in Europe and the United States, according to an official tally.

There are now 5,250,658 cases officially recorded, with 339,172 deaths attributed to the virus. Europe is the hardest-hit continent, with 2,003,510 cases and 173,186 deaths, while the United States is the worst-hit country, with 1,604,879 cases and 96,125 deaths.

These latest figures mean that the number of recorded cases worldwide has doubled in a month, and that 250,000 new cases have been recorded in less than three days.

The region that is seeing the swiftest rise in cases is now Latin America and the Caribbean, which saw 33,719 recorded on Friday — against 28,647 in the United States and Canada, which was previously where new recorded cases were appearing fastest.

US borders with Canada, Mexico closed another month
[IsraelTimes] The US government has extended for another month restrictions on non-essential travel across the borders with Canada and Mexico to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The US Department of Homeland Security says the closure, first ordered on March 20 and due to expire Wednesday, will be extended until June 22 and reviewed every 30 days.

Number of COVID-19 patients in France continues to slide
[AlAhram] The number of people in hospital with coronavirus in France fell by 205 to 17,178 on Saturday, continuing a gradual decline that has lasted more than five weeks since a high of 32,292 on April 14.

The number of people in intensive care fell by 36 or 2.1% to 1,665.

France did not publish a revised number of deaths on Saturday and said the COVID-19 toll will be updated on Monday. As of Thursday, a total of 28,215 people had died from the virus.

Europe’s coronavirus cases top two million
[IsraelTimes] More than two million cases of the new coronavirus have been officially declared in Europe, nearly two-thirds of which were reported in Russia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and France, according to an official tally.

With at least 173,133 deaths out of 2,001,995 cases, Europe is the continent most affected by the pandemic.

Worldwide, a total of 5,244,616 cases, including 339,011 deaths, have been recorded.

Russia is the European country with the highest number of cases (335,882 with 3,388 deaths) and a daily increase of about 10,000 new cases reported since the beginning of May.

The United Kingdom (257,154 cases with 36,675 deaths), Spain (234,824 cases with 28,628 deaths), Italy (229,327 cases with 32,735 deaths) and France (182,219 cases with 28,289 deaths) are the other four worst-hit European countries.

The tallies, using data collected by AFP from national authorities and information from the World Health Organization (WHO), probably reflect only a fraction of the actual number of infections.

Many countries are testing only symptomatic or the most serious cases.

Afghanistan
Taliban Announces Three-Day Ceasefire for Eid
[ToloNews] In an unexpected move, the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
on Saturday announced a three-day ceasefire with the Afghan government on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

A statement issued by the group’s front man Zabihullah Mujahid on Twitter said that the Taliban will not stage any attack on ’enemy’ forces, but will maintain the right to defend itself against potential threats.

An Eid ceasefire was called for by the Taliban also in June 2018.

Earlier last month, President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
appealed to the group to announce a ceasefire during the holy month of Ramadan, but the group at the time rejected Ghani’s appeal and instead called him an "obstacle" in the way towards the grinding of the peace processor, and cited his delays of a prisoner release called for in the US-Taliban agreement.

Violence has dramatically increased in Afghanistan over the past few months since the US-Taliban peace deal signed in Doha on February 29.
The Times of Israel adds:
Since the US invasion in 2001 there has only been one other pause in the fighting — a surprise three-day ceasefire between the Taliban and Kabul marking the religious festival of Eid in 2018.

During the brief lull in fighting, Afghans responded joyfully, with Taliban fighters, security forces and civilians hugging, sharing ice creams and posing for selfies in previously unimaginable scenes.

Canada: 81 percent of Coronavirus Deaths are in Nursing Homes
Gov. Andrew "Fredo II" Cumho is there too?
[21stCenturyWire] From the beginning of the Coronavirus mass panic, one the main talking points for western governments was that "No one is immune. The disease can kill anyone at any time." Various versions of this propaganda set piece were used and recycled across all media platforms, whereby government’s intention was actually to scare the public into accepting ’lockdown’ or the shutdown of society and the economic, supposedly in order to "save lives." However, after a number of weeks that fear narrative is rapidly collapsing as real data and evidence comes flowing in — which shows that the overwhelming majority of public were never at any serious risk of dying from COVID-19. In Europe, the UK and in the US, the overwhelming majority of COVID fatalities have been with elderly persons, and within that demographic nearly all have been from care homes. This fact alone destroys western governments’ case for sweeping lockdown policies and school closures.

A new report citing Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam, confirms that among Canada’s coronavirus fatalities, 81 percent were in nursing homes — affecting the elderly with long-term chronic health conditions.

This rate is nearly double the rate of that in the US as a whole, but is comparable to data from some individual states including two ’hot spots’ in the US, Washington state and New York State.

A Yale professor recently described the US nursing home death rate as ‘staggering', showing how more than half of all deaths in 14 US states from elderly care facilities. Similarly, countries like Scotland saw half of all deaths from care homes.

The report describes one Toronto facility, 100 people including 40 staff members are currently battling the coronavirus, and another 57 residents are said to have already have died of it, said the Washington Post.
According to those familiar with the case, cramped buildings and employees doing part-time shifts and traveling between several care facilities in order to make a living were two chief factors thought to have contributed to heavy outbreaks in assisted living facilities.

Judge Sullivan - ordered to explain his reasons for not granting the DOJ motion to dismiss - has hired a lawyer to apparently do his work for him.
[Twitter] This is incredible. The Court ordered Sullivan to respond, not his Atty
No doubt that will please the appeals court judge supervising this case. Clever decision, Yer Honour.

#1  Conservative Tree House says he's hired, in effect, a Defense Atty.

#2  Responding to the Mandamas will be a big job. The District court has a dozen other judges who share staff and if Sullivan commandeered them to work on his response it would mess up the entire court.

So, assuming you believe Sullivan's actions deserve a defense (personally I don't), hiring outside council to help out is reasonable.

#3  Anyone would give the same legal advise. Get a lawyer before you speak to the law.

I still hope they 86 this fucker.

#4  Confusing.
So the lawyers at DOJ and FBI railroaded a man who
... hired a set of lawyers who
... refused to demand exculpatory evidence from the prosecution's lawyers, who
... secured a conviction from a judge who when confronted by a new defense lawyer demanding dismissal
... hired his own lawyers.

Is it wrong to see this farce as a complete Shitshow lawyers' scam designed to fleece Flynn and the USG of asuch $$$$$$$ as possible?

#8  It's not a legal 'trial'. He's been asked to justify his actions to the appellate. He is suppose to write his justification. He's now saying he didn't have any precedent or legal basis for his action? Just pulled it out of his a**? Now he needs to have someone else come up in legalese with an excuse?

That is so infantile - Why did you do that? I don't know.

#15  This story is so weird that I have to wonder whether the WAPO -- and I know this will shock you-- has its facts right. (The report is based on one anonymous source.) Judges can't "lose" appeals, and committing a reversible error is not an impeachable offense, leaving aside the fact that it's next to impossible to impeach a federal judge. At worst, the Court of Appeals bruises Judge Sullivan's ego, and I'm sure that's happened before.

No survivor in the Pakistani plane crash in Karachi: Mayor
[THEBAGHDADPOST] Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
Mayor said no survivors are expected among those on board the Pak plane that crashed while carrying 99 passengers and crew.

A Pakistain International Airlines aircraft A320 Airbus carrying 98 people crashed near Jinnah international airport in Sindh, after hitting homes in the area.
Having seen the vid of the plane going down, we guessed that. Only question now remaining: Did it fall or was it pushed? I'm actually leaning toward inshallah maintenance.

#2  He might not expect survivors, but the news reported 2 survivors yesterday. (Yeah, I know it's a miracle.)

Glad they didn't know about the mayor's "expectations" and survived anyway.

But I wouldn't suggest those 2 guys waste their money on a lottery ticket anytime soon; they've used up all their luck.

Bangladesh
Community medical officer sexually assaults minor in Tangail hospital
[Dhaka Tribune] A girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a sub assistant community medical officer (SACMO), when she went to receive treatment at a Tangail hospital.

The girl is a fourth grade school student.

The incident took place in Basail Upazila Health Complex on Friday after the girl was escorted by her mother to the hospital for ear treatment.

The accused SACMO Subodh Kumar Das was beaten by locals after the girl's mother protested the incident of her child's assault.

Keeping the girl to Subodh's supervision, her mother went outside the hospital to exchange larger bills into smaller ones to pay medical fees, said the girl's mother.

Taking the opportunity, Subodh groped the girl, and her mother protested after she came back and got to know about the incident, the girl’s mother further said.

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
Subodh denied the allegations.
No, no! Certainly not!
against him.

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Firozur Rahman said arrangements will be made to transfer the accused medical officer.

When asked if an investigation will be launched into the matter, Basail Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shamsun Nahar said the hospital authorities will take necessary actions as no complaints were filed to the upazila administration regarding the matter.
