SIMFEROPOL, June 20. /TASS/. Two people remain unaccounted for and 24 were injured after floods caused by torrential rains in the Crimean city of Yalta, Mayor Yanina Pavlenko said.
"24 [people have been injured], two are missing and one dead. None of them are tourists. All injuries are slight ones," she said.
According to earlier reports, 19 people were injured and one was killed. A woman was reported as missing, a search for her is under way.
On Thursday night, Crimea was battered by torrential rains and gusts of the northwest wind. A regional state of emergency was declared. The floods hit the resort city of Kerch and eastern regions of the peninsula. In the south of Crimea, the city of Yalta faced over 135 mm of precipitation. Yanina Pavlenko, the head of Yalta’s administration, said that the city had not witnessed such heavy rain since 1922, when the city had over 190 mm of precipitation. As many as 26,200 customers were left without electricity.
As a result, hundreds of houses all over the republic were damaged. 13 hotels were flooded in Yalta, with evacuation ordered in two of them. Beach infrastructure was damaged as well. At the moment, post-disaster recovery efforts are under way in many areas, including works to clear debris and resume electricity, water and gas supplies.
[Right Scoop] The US Catholic Bishops have just voted overwhelmingly to begin drafting a teaching document on the Holy Eucharist, which will include guidance on whether Biden and other abortion-supporting politicians should be able to receive Holy Communion:
THE HILL – The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has voted to proceed with drafting a formal statement on the meaning of communion, which will include whether President Biden and other politicians should be denied the rite based on their stance on abortion.
The action item for the committee on doctrine to start a teaching document on the Holy Eucharist passed 168-55, with six bishops abstaining from the vote, the USCCB announced Friday.
The document will be up for debate, subject to amendments and voted on at the group’s next meeting in November.
When asked at a press conference on Thursday following the vote if Biden, who is only the second Catholic president, should be able to receive communion, Bishop Kevin Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, said, “I can’t answer that question.”
“We will be looking at that whole issue of eucharistic consistency. … When you look at canon law, that is a decision of his bishop,” he added.
This part is key here. When Bishop Rhoades says “I can’t answer that question…that is a decision of his bishop,” that means that whatever the USCCB puts forth in this teaching document, it won’t have any actual teeth. It’s not a legal document in the sense of making canon law. It’s a teaching document. The ultimate authority on whether someone is granted or denied Holy Communion belongs to the Bishop over a given politician’s diocese. Another Bishop, or the entire Bishop’s conference can’t dictate to any given Bishop what he can or can’t do in this regard.

Plugs wasn't going to take Holy Communion anyway. The wine and wafers could have caused a negative reaction to his weekly regenerative fetal tissue bone marrow injections and glutathione drip.
The Clinton's, Pelosi, Feinstein, and Soros texted numerous warnings. Dr. Jill is dead set against it. Why take a chance.
#3
As I understand it, the document does not single out Biden to be banned from Communion. It says that politicians who publicly and openly support abortion should not receive Communion. Biden is just one of many. Pelosi also comes to mind.

This isnt about Biden. Its about finally taking a stand one way or the other on a fundamental item of Catholicism: Is it truly the Body and Blood of Christ? If so, then those not in full communion are not allowed to paratke, because it would be a mortal sin. Its all right there in the Catechism, the rulebook for what it means to be Catholic.
The faith is what it says it is, or else it is nothing. Choose. Biden, Pelosi, Ted Liu and others have chosen to make a mockery of it, denying the core beliefs for political power and economic gain. It really is that simple: if you dont beleive the teaching and doctrine of the Church, then you are NOT a Roman Catholic and should find another group with whom to worship whatever it is that you worship. Stop trying to bend the Holy Apostolic and Church to falsify itself and betray the deposit of fiath it was fouinded upon.

CDC director Dr Rochelle Walensky said on Friday she expects the Indian 'Delta' coronavirus variant, B.1.617.2, to become dominant in the U.S.
She noted that the Alpha 'Kent' variant took between one or two months to become the most prevalent strain in America and believes the same situation will occur with B.1.617.2
As of Friday, the strain makes up 10% of all cases in the U.S., which is nearly double from the 6% of cases it accounted for last week
Walensky urged Americans to get vaccinated, noting that studies have found two doses of COVID-19 vaccines offer protection against the Delta variant
In the UK, the variant now accounts for 99% of cases, and the amount of people infected increased from 42,000 to 76,000 in a week - an 80% jump
Last week, 383 Britons were hospitalized with the mutant strain, which rose to 806 this week, and variant deaths rose from 42 to 73

Meanwhile, the number of new cases in the U.S. are down 50% from last week (my tabulation from John Hopkins numbers).

So what do the real experts say?
Pay Day is on the 1st.
This 'variant', all the 'variants', are old enough to be named, talked about, considered racist, and re-named. They have been around the world ten times now. We have already suffered 'the variants' and didn't notice in a macro sense.

[FoxNews] A dog collar device triggered the brief closure of the front gate at CIA headquarters in Virginia Friday as law enforcement swarmed the scene to investigate.
The intelligence agency told Fox News the device was a remote control for a dog training collar.
"The investigation identified the small electronic device by our front gate to be a remote for a dog training collar with no security implications," CIA spokeswoman CIA Spokesperson Nicole de Haay said in a statement. "Our front gate is all clear, and the matter is resolved."
No one was injured and normal operations were resumed, she said.
[FoxNews] Iran’s hard-line judiciary chief won the country’s presidential election in a landslide victory Saturday, propelling the supreme leader’s protege into Tehran’s highest civilian position in a vote that appeared to see the lowest turnout in the Islamic Republic’s history.
Initial results showed Ebrahim Raisi won 17.8 million votes in the contest, dwarfing those of the race’s sole moderate candidate. However, Raisi dominated the election only after a panel under the watch of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei disqualified his strongest competition.
His candidacy, and the sense the election served more as a coronation for him, sparked widespread apathy among eligible voters in the Islamic Republic, which has held up turnout as a sign of support for the theocracy since its 1979 Islamic Revolution. Some, including former hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, called for a boycott.
In initial results, former Revolutionary Guard commander Mohsen Rezaei won 3.3 million votes and moderate Abdolnasser Hemmati got 2.4 million, said Jamal Orf, the head of Iran’s Interior Ministry election headquarters. The race’s fourth candidate, Amirhossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi, had around 1 million votes, Orf said.
Iran’s ultraconservative top judge, Ebrahim Raisi, has been elected president in an outcome that surprised absolutely no one as many Iranians chose to sit out a vote they saw as rigged in his favor. The 60-year-old close ally of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei won 17.9 million of the 28.9 million ballots cast and will be inaugurated in August. The voter turnout of 48.8 percent marked the lowest since the establishment of the Islamic republic in 1979. And many of those who did cast a ballot appeared to express their displeasure by voiding their ballots. Some 3.7 million people didn’t choose any candidate and while some of those may have been accidental, the number is far higher than previous elections, suggesting they didn’t want to choose any of the candidates in the race

[NBC] Adrienne Simpson and Tyler Terry have been likened to infamous criminal duo Bonnie and Clyde.
Simpson and Terry criss-crossed multiple states spanning more than 1,000 miles in May, chalking up dozens of charges in a rap sheet that included a combined four homicide charges in South Carolina and Missouri — with investigators tying them to a fifth slaying in Tennessee — while also wounding in separate shootings three men and riddling six vehicles with bullets.
During their alleged crime spree, the South Carolina couple led Chester County Sheriff Max Dorsey's deputies on a high-speed chase topping 100 mph. Simpson was behind the wheel of a 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage while Terry fired a volley of gunshots at six pursuing officers, striking three patrol vehicles, according to court documents.
"They were extremely dangerous. They became even more dangerous after the initial murder," Dorsey said during interviews with NBC News this month. "That danger increased because they no longer had anything to lose. I believe that’s what led them to not having a concern for anyone else’s well-being after that."
Through court documents, police statements and jail records, NBC News pieced together a timeline of the duo's alleged crime wave, which centered around three dates: May 2, May 15 and May 17.

So I'm sitting at my computer last night and I get an e-mail telling me that my phone battery is about to run out and this message is coming from my phone (Samsung) security APP I installed.
[Spectator] In his motion for a new trial, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, through his attorney Eric Nelson, made an obvious point. Quoting case law, Nelson reminded the court of "the prosecutor's inherently unique role in the criminal justice system, which mandates that the prosecutor not act as a zealous advocate for criminal punishment, but as the representative of the people in an effort to seek justice."
Had the State prosecutors set out to honor this mandate and seek justice, they would not have presented the medical evidence they did. In fact, they would not have charged Derek Chauvin with second-degree murder or charged his colleagues as accomplices.
Prosecutors knew they had a problem. To make the murder charge stick in the Chauvin case, they had to secure an "asphyxia" diagnosis from a physician.
If justice were the goal, prosecutors would have taken two critical steps to assure that the medical testimony supported the charge of murder. The first was to run a controlled experiment to see if Chauvin's actions could possibly have resulted in the death of George Floyd. The second was to make the court and the defense aware of the potential compromise of its star medical witness, Hennepin County Medical Examiner Dr. Andrew Baker.
Dr. John Dunn did run such an experiment, and he made a video of the same. Dr. Dunn comes well credentialed. He is a former member and chair of the medico-legal committee for the American College of Emergency Physicians, board certified in legal medicine, and co-author with a pathologist of a chapter on forensics for a text published by the American College of Legal Medicine. He has followed the case from the beginning, studied the videos, and reviewed Floyd's autopsy report.

Maude Branscombe's scant resume on the stage performing "Ixion" and "H.M.S. Pinafore" hardly explains her significance in the history of celebrity. She was the first of the performing artists of the 19th century for whom good looks trumped every other ability; indeed, she was an inadequate dancer, inconsistent elocutionist, and insecure singer. But the camera loved her no end. She became in 1877 an international star on the strength of her photogenic face and figure, celebrated in gallery windows and in the cabinet card displays in city newsstands. The popularity of her image ushered in the era of the buffo artist--the woman of minor talent whose looks made them bankable.
Though Jose Maria Mora discovered Branscombe and popularized her face, every metropolitan photographer paid to have her pose. Her income from sittings far exceeded her wages as featured attraction on the stage. While Lily Langtry and Lillian Russell may have generated more cabinet cards by the end of the 19th century, Branscombe for a five year period between 1877 and 1882 was the most ubiquitous of the professional beauties represented by photography.
English by birth, she became an artist's model in her teens, sitting for the Scottish painter McClean and Elliot & Fry's photographic studio. Lord Alfred Paget secured for her a stage role as Ophelia, but the performance was not a success. Figuring she could find a place in an American extravaganza, she crossed the Atlantic where she experienced the sudden noteriety of being the "most beautiful woman in the world." Her American engagements were never artistically significant--the burlesque, "Orpheus and Eurydice," the burlesque, "Cinderella," "Hamlet," "The Sorcerer," "H.M.S. Pinafore."
Branscombe's photographic popularity began to wane in late 1881, as Mary Anderson's image supplanted hers in the gallery cases. In 1882 she returned to England, played several months in "Manteaux Noire" at the Avenue Theater, before sinking into the stage netherworld of provincial pantomimes. In 1886 she married pianist Victor Lonuen. She surfaced briefly into public notice in 1895 when she took her employer, A.H. Gunn, to court for assault. She was working a stenographer at the time.

[NASA] Operations Continue to Restore Payload Computer on NASA's Hubble Space Telescope
NASA continues to work on resolving an issue with the payload computer on the Hubble Space Telescope. The operations team will be running tests and collecting more information on the system to further isolate the problem. The science instruments will remain in a safe mode state until the issue is resolved. The telescope itself and science instruments remain in good health.
The computer halted on Sunday, June 13. An attempt to restart the computer failed on Monday, June 14. Initial indications pointed to a degrading computer memory module as the source of the computer halt. When the operations team attempted to switch to a back-up memory module, however, the command to initiate the backup module failed to complete. Another attempt was conducted on both modules Thursday evening to obtain more diagnostic information while again trying to bring those memory modules online. However, those attempts were not successful.
The payload computer is a NASA Standard Spacecraft Computer-1 (NSSC-1) system built in the 1980s that is located on the Science Instrument Command and Data Handling unit. The computer’s purpose is to control and coordinate the science instruments and monitor them for health and safety purposes. It is fully redundant in that a second computer, along with its associated hardware, exists on orbit that can be switched over to in the event of a problem. Both computers can access and use any of four independent memory modules, which each contain 64K of Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) memory. The payload computer uses only one memory module operationally at a time, with the other three serving as backups.
Launched in 1990, Hubble has contributed greatly to our understanding of the universe over the past 30 years.
The NASA Standard Spacecraft Computer-1 (NSSC-1) is a computer developed as a standard component for the MultiMission Modular Spacecraft at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in 1974. The basic spacecraft was built of standardized components and modules, for cost reduction. The computer had 18 bits of core memory or plated wire memory; up to 64 k. 18 bits was chosen because it gave more accuracy (x4) for data over a 16 bit machine. Floating point was not supported.
The NSSC-1 had an assembler/loader/simulator toolset hosted on Xerox XDS 930 (24- bit) mainframe. An associated simulator ran at 1/1000 of real time. The Xerox computer was interfaced to a breadboard OBP in a rack. (Which, of course, operated at room temperature ambient conditions). Later, the Software Development and Validation Facility (SDVF) added a flight dynamics simulator hosted on a PDP-11/70 minicomputer.[2]
A purpose-built NSSC-1 Flight Executive was developed and used on the Solar Maximum Mission (SMM) and subsequent flights. It time sliced tasks at 25 ms. It included a stored command processor that handled both absolute time and relative time commands. It included a status buffer that could be telemetered back to the ground. It required a lot of memory, typically more than half of that available, leaving the rest for applications and spare.[3]
BTW: Hubble was based on KH-11+ technology.
Look up the Key Hole Spy Sat program , around since the 70's or Google Maps Sat view and utter the word "What Privacy?"

It's orbit will decay to re-entry in about a decade. It's been serviced several times over its life, both repairs and upgrades. No surprise an antique computer would fail. The James Webb telescope is scheduled to launch sometime this year, I think.

[IsraelTimes] Resident of a Druze village found with 12 pistols in a tractor in a field near Metula; police say 80 weapons confiscated in such attempts on the northern border this year.
Israeli troops foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons from Leb ...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady human sacrifice days of Baal Moloch... into northern Israel on Friday, arresting a suspect and seizing guns, the police said.
According to the police, a resident of Ein Qiniyye, a Druze village in the Golan Heights, was arrested in a field near the town of Metula, adjacent to the border with Lebanon, as he was attempting to smuggle the supply of weapons in a tractor, under the guise of agricultural activity.
In the tractor the suspect was driving, 12 pistols, worth around half a million shekels ($140,000), were found and seized, according to the statement.
The operation was conducted in coordination with Israel Defense Forces soldiers.
Twelve attempted weapon smuggling attempts were thwarted along the northern border since the beginning of 2021, and some 80 rifles and pistols were confiscated, according to the police.
On Monday, an Israeli soldier was moderately maimed from friendly fire while preventing a gun-smuggling attempt on the Jordanian border. Twenty-one guns, including several assault rifles, as well as ammunition were seized.
Last Saturday, Israeli troops foiled an attempted weapons sale in the Jordan Valley. Nine pistols and two rifles were confiscated, and two suspects were arrested.
Earlier this month, Israeli security forces arrested an Arab Israeli father and son suspected of smuggling a large amount of hashish and firearms into Israel from Lebanon, potentially on behalf of the Hezbollah terrorist organization, according to the military.
Hezbollah has long maintained control over the area adjacent to the border with Israel and is unlikely to have been unaware of such smuggling operations.
The terror group is known to fund its activities through drug sales around the world, including producing large amounts of hashish in eastern Lebanon.
[Just The News] Storied U.S. gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson this week announced a record-setting fiscal year amid an ongoing gun-and-ammunition frenzy in the United States that has persisted since last year.
Company CEO Mark Smith said in a company earnings call on Thursday that the gun manufacturer in the past fiscal year "surpass[ed] $1 billion in sales for the first time in our 169-year history."
Smith said the company also posted "fourth quarter revenue of nearly $323 million," which he said was "the highest quarter ever on record and marks the fourth consecutive record-breaking quarter for the company."
He said the record year allowed the company to "completely pay off our $160 million debt, return over $8 million to shareholders through dividends and reduce our outstanding shares by over 14%."
The company's surging profits come as U.S. gun and ammunition sales have consistently shattered records, with monthly U.S. gun background checks up significantly year-over-year and an ongoing ammo shortage continuing to grip the country's consumer guns market.
[AlAhram] Troops in pursuit clashed early on Friday with the button men who had split into two groups on the run, the army said in a statement
Nigerian troops have rescued two teachers and five students after clashing with button men who raided a college in a northwestern state and kidnapped an unknown number of people, the army said on Friday.
Gunmen stormed the Federal Government College in Kebbi State on Thursday, killing a policeman and snatching students and teachers, in the third kidnap attack on a school in less than three weeks in Nigeria.
Security forces "have so far, rescued two teachers and five students after a fierce exchange of fire with the criminals," it said.
It said one female student had been found dead from exhaustion.
Troops also recovered 800 cattle stolen by the same gang.
Police have so far not confirmed the number of missing students and teachers taken from the school.
Heavily armed criminal gangs, known locally as bandidos, have long terrorised central and northwestern Nigeria, raiding and looting villages, stealing cattle and kidnapping for ransom.
But since December they have increasingly targeted schools, arriving on cycle of violences, abducting students or schoolchildren and herding them into forest hideouts to negotiate ransom payments.
At the end of May, button men seized 136 children from an Islamic seminary in central Nigeria's Niger state. They are still being held.
Nearly 900 children and students have already been kidnapped by button men for ransom since December, though many have since been freed.

[American Thinker] There are three types of "science" -- good science, bad science, and political science. Perhaps some of the recent confusion and conflict occurs when rational, ethical, and honest people assume others use good science when, instead, dishonest and nefarious people often use bad science or political science.
During the recent COVID outbreak we have repeatedly been told to follow their "science" and trust the experts even though their science changes at a rapid pace. COVID came from bat soup. COVID may have leaked from a lab. "Classified report with early support for lab leak theory." Wear masks. Masks are not effective. Reports and revisions; more reports and more revisions ad nauseam.
If we ignore bad science and political science, perhaps we can see how the gullible are deceived about COVID and many things associated with it. But how could so many Americans be so gullible? We know that, as Lincoln reputedly said, "You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time." But are there tactics that allow you to fool most of the people most of the time?
What if there were a well-established body of science for brainwashing and well-established techniques to achieve predictable results? The CIA believed it was possible, when it developed Project MKUltra in the 1960s, to discover ways to brainwash people. Merely mentioning MKUltra sounds like a tinfoil hat conspiracy theory but the fact is that the project did exist.
Taxpayers funded the research as a national security issue. As the Smithsonian Magazine explained, in 1950, journalist Edward Hunter coined the term "brainwashing" to describe the way in which Chinese people were turned into mindless Communist Party members. The term became common currency in 1953 as the American military men held captive in Korea began confessing to all sorts of crimes against humanity, and "5,000 of the 7,200 POWs either petitioned the U.S. government to end the war or signed confessions of their alleged crimes. The final blow came when 21 American soldiers refused repatriation."
Brainwashing was now seen as a national security priority. Indeed, the same Edward Hunter who coined the phrase, was a propaganda specialist working for the CIA, as he admitted in congressional testimony:
[Free Beacon] A Chinese propaganda outlet is using anonymous sources—described as virologists "close to the China-WHO joint investigative research mission"—to push back against the growing suspicion that the COVID-19 pandemic started as a result of a lab leak.
An unsigned piece in Global Times, one of China's leading propaganda outlets, quotes multiple anonymous sources who have "decided to break their silence" to deny any possibility that a lab leak caused the pandemic.
"There's no way that the virus could have been made in [the Wuhan Institute of Virology]," one source said. "I am confident that science will eventually prevail by discovering the progenitor virus in nature one day!"
The sources also say Western authorities are "politicalizing virus-tracing issues" and "standing in the way of a ’scientific and rational' investigation."
The piece describes investigations into the virus's origins as "China-bashing" and "individuals' tool to gain personal fame."
By contrast, a growing number of named scientists, reporters, and lawmakers have come out in support of evidence that the origins of the coronavirus may lie in the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Former New York Times science reporters Nicholas Wade and Donald McNeil both penned pieces that cast doubt on conventional wisdom that the coronavirus began naturally at a wet market. Former secretary of state Mike Pompeo said Sunday that a "pile of evidence a hundred feet high" supports the lab-leak theory.
Congressional Republicans, meanwhile, have moved to punish China for its role in covering up the origins of the virus. Reps. Rob Wittman (Va.) and Ann Wagner (Mo.) introduced legislation to sanction Chinese Communist Party members for spreading disinformation and called for increased scrutiny into the virus's origins.
An independent Health and Human Services watchdog announced an investigation into the National Institutes of Health's use of taxpayer funding for partnership with the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Must read article at the wire. At least to a layman like me, and I haven't followed the Covid19 thingy at all, it was interesting.
An excerpt:
The decoding of the virus’s genome showed it belonged to a viral family known as beta-coronaviruses, to which the SARS1 and MERS viruses also belong. The relationship supported the idea that, like them, it was a natural virus that had managed to jump from bats, via another animal host, to people. The wet market connection, the only other point of similarity with the SARS1 and MERS epidemics, was soon broken: Chinese researchers found earlier cases in Wuhan with no link to the wet market. But that seemed not to matter when so much further evidence in support of natural emergence was expected shortly.
Do read the whole thing. Of Dr Saszak and the EcoHealth Alliance of New York, EU scientists shifting blame from china, Scripps Research Institute... interesting.

Seen elsewhere: "The reason China is denying that Covid came from their lab is because 3 million deaths is an embarrassing underachievement for communism."

NASA MEDIA Budget HYPE again followed by FACTS years later....
From one of my really older postings. Eg. Mars Rocks Found on Antarctica
Years ago some Eggheads at NASA needed to justify a lifetime of MARS research grants and they all of a sudden found rocks with indications of life in them and they happen to only find them in the most inaccessible place in the world.
NASA happens to go the Antarctica, happens to find a rock, the rock that happens to contain a fossil, that happened to have survived being formed into molten rock, survived being blasted into space, survived traveling between 38.6 million miles to 62.07 million miles over 100’s of thousands of years and survived 1000’s of degrees of burning up on reentry heat to earth and successfully landed and survived, by their own estimate, 100’s of 1000's of years in earths meanest, harshest weather environment, without being worn down into sand or dust?
Yea Right.
This NASA PR balloon piece was used to sway public opinion and US Congress budget funding for a Mars Mission and another Eggheads attempts at a long running meal ticket? According to the Eggheads even if we get to mars and find no life we can learn from that also and learn ways of avoiding what happen there here on earth.

[Breitbart] On Friday’s "MSNBC Live," Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms (D) said that part of the reason homicides in the city have increased from pre-pandemic levels is because Georgia "opened up before the rest of the country, even before the CDC said that it was safe for us to open." And "We had people traveling here from across the country to party in our city."
Bottoms acknowledged that there is a crime spike in cities across the country, including in Atlanta, and stated that school closures, mental health issues, and easy access to guns are contributors to the problem.
After host Stephanie Ruhle asked about the increase in killings in Atlanta from before the pandemic, Bottoms responded, "I think there are a couple of things that you have to compare. Remember, in Georgia, we were opened up before the rest of the country, even before the CDC said that it was safe for us to open. So, our nightclubs and our bars remained open. We had people traveling here from across the country to party in our city. So, we believe our comporable numbers are from 2019, which they are still up. But again, this is an issue that’s happening in cities across the country."
Bottoms further stated that the pandemic has contributed to the crime surge and that police forces across the country are struggling to retain and attract officers.

[AlAhram] Egyptian technical teams, building equipment and material required for the reconstruction process in the Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... Strip continue to follow Thursday into the enclave through Rafah Crossing Checkpoint.
According to official sources eight trucks entered into the Gaza Strip, bringing to 48 the total number of trucks loaded with building tools and materials and transferring Egyptian technicians taking part in President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's initiative on Gaza reconstruction.
Meantime, relief assistance continues to flow to the Paleostinian side, the sources said.
Rafah Crossing Checkpoint remains unexceptionally open by the Egyptian authorities to receive maimed and stranded Paleostinians and to allow the follow of humanitarian and reconstruction assistance to the Paleostinians, in the wake of a recent Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip, they said.
[Engineering News Record] Nearly two years after announcing the award of a design-build contract between The Lane Construction Corp. and joint-venture partner Webuild Group to build a high-speed railway between Dallas and Houston for Texas Central, the final agreement on the design-build project has been signed.
This moves the project to the advanced design stage and also finalizes its cost at $16 billion. While one challenge to the line was dismissed by Texas' high court on June 18, other challenges remain.
Construction is now expected to begin at the end of 2021 or early 2022, says Erin Ragsdale, Texas Central spokeswoman.
After full notice to proceed, the privately funded project has a six-to-seven-year base construction schedule, Ragsdale adds.
The final contract states that Lane and Webuild will execute all the heavy construction for the project, and design and build all 236 miles of the alignment, the entire track system, along with the buildings and services for maintenance and other equipment, including industrial buildings, train depots and facilities. Almost half of the railway will be elevated to reduce impacts on residents and landowners. I could've been working on this for the last three years, but decided to stay retired.

between Dallas and Houston
My drive, @300 miles door to door, would take about 3 hours on I-45.
#2
Well the fare would have to be less than an airline ticket
The stations more accessible than airports and there has to be intermodal connections with Amtrak airports and public transportation for this to work
Hopefully Texas is smart enough to avoid the Charlie Foxtrot train to nowhere that Californicate is building

Sometime after 9/11 my best friend was thinking of going back to Buffalo (he's in the Boston area like I am). I told him I could drive to Buffalo faster than he could fly there (I once drove it in about 7 1/2 hours). We hashed it out numberswise and figured it would be pretty close.

Man, what were driving a bicycle ?
I used to do Boston to Buffalo in 5hrs 45min
in my red 1966 VW Bug 4-cyl. 1285cc/50hp 1bbl with manual transmission. The secret was floor the gas pedal going down the hills and mountains (click click click sound on the 80 mph speedo)
so you could get up the next hill or mountain, speed limit was 70mph back then.
Got stopped by NY State Police 🚨 once ...
I explained my methodology to my driving, he gave me a warning ⚠ and told me to "do the speed limit", then he followed me for about six miles.
I kept to the 70mph down hill and floored it going up hill, my speed kept sinking as my Bug struggled to even maintain 45mph - the minimum for the Interstates at the time.
After two more hills the SPO turned on his lights and motioned for me to pull over as I was going up the hill. I did, he got out of the car, walked up to my car, I rolled down the window and he said,
"Sir, After what I have witnessed I must issue you a warning ⚠ you were doing 39 mph in a 70 mph zone coming up this hill, its a warning not a ticket, but you should not be driving this car on the Interstate if it can not do the minimum 45 mph." He wrote up the warning and handed it to me and told me to affix it to my passenger side windshield. Then he said, "While it is against my better judgement, I believe you should go back to your former way of driving the Interstate to get to your destination. I'm saying this because I don't want to see you run over by a tractor trailer going up and down these hills."

Only politicians would fall for this boondoggle.
Unlike California high speed rail, this is private money and the risk is theirs. The money will be spent in TX and taxes collected.
There has been talk, for as long as NAFTA has been in effect, of an I-35 rail corridor to transship Mexican imports. This would follow the general route. Add a spur into Mexico...

Trains are a cheap way to move freight. The only thing cheaper is by ship. (Anyone up for the West Texas Extension to the Intercoastal Waterway?)
For high-speed people moving, you want rocket trains. Or maybe leave off the train part and just rockets. It's the 21st Century, people.
We're talking the 3:10 to LEO!

Blew my fuzzy little mind a while back trying to guesstimate what kinda bus setup California could buy with that train money. Came up with something like a bus every thirty seconds between SD and SF, sixteen hours a day. No fare. So... we just solved "homelessness" too.
Bullet trains vary in speed, although most travel between 150 and 187 miles per hour. The Shinkansen averaged 100 mph to 131 mph (160 kph to 210 kph) in its earlier days. Newer parts of the Japanese network average 163 mph (261 kph) and boast an upper range of 187 mph (300 kph)
[RedState] As the Arizona audit of 2020 ballots winds down, progressive activists — continuing the tradition they laid out in that extraordinary TIME Magazine article where they admitted all the things they did to ensure a Biden win — are now admitting to traveling from Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, to Arizona and Georgia to help cure ballots in the days following the election.
A California nonprofit called Unite Here is profiled in yet another extraordinary piece in The Atlantic in which they admit they sent activists across state lines to Arizona to help "cure" ballots in the days following the election.
The article titled, "How Unite Here Turned the West’s Biggest Red State Blue" (subtitled: "Arizona was pivotal in the 2020 presidential election. Its shift was no accident."), rather shamelessly details how activists associated with the nonprofit had affected races in Arizona in the past and had their sights set on the general election as early as July.
In the days after the November election, with most of the networks declaring the result still too close to call, Minato and her team worked on vital vote-curing efforts, following up with people whose ballots were at risk of being discarded because they had filled out a line incorrectly or had a signature on the form that didn’t quite match the one in the county’s files. Gomez says that he helped 10 voters cure their ballots. With hundreds of Unite Here canvassers helping to cure several ballots each, a whole heap of votes ended up being counted that would have been discarded otherwise, in a state ultimately decided by 10,457 votes.
On November 10, when it became clear that her work in Arizona was done, Minato, along with hundreds of other LA organizers, left. Largely under the radar, courting a minimum of publicity, they had helped craft one of 2020’s most extraordinary political stories. They had developed a template for how, with the right kind of organizing and outreach, solidly red states around the country—even those with a long history of voter suppression efforts—could be turned blue.
After a brief spell back in Los Angeles, many of these canvassers headed east again, this time to Georgia. As the Senate run-off races there intensified, the canvasser-activists once again played a crucial, albeit out-of-the-spotlight, role.
Ballot curing is a controversial process that allows voters to fix their ballot if it was filled out correctly for a number of days following election night. Democrat activist groups adopted the issue before the 2020 election and made sure it was widely available.
Democrats and advocacy groups like the League of Women Voters have sued to change or institute "cure" processes in at least 10 states this year. New York’s state Legislature passed a law creating a cure process in July, while Georgia settled a suit with state Democrats to update their cure process after their primary. A North Carolina judge also ordered a cure process for ballots in November.
[ARABNEWS] Israeli police on Friday arrested 10 Paleostinians during festivities at Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque compound, with nine people injured as protesters hurled rocks and officers fired rubber bullets, police and medics said.
About 1,000 people gathered in the compound after weekly prayers chanting "God is great" and some hoisting Paleostinian flags. Some demonstrators threw stones at police, who raided the site, a news hound said.
The confrontation came after Paleostinians protested against Jewish nationalists who had marched through Israel-annexed East Jerusalem on Tuesday, chanting insults to Islam.
The Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy said nine people were hurt, including three hospitalized in the confrontation, with injuries due to "beatings, rubber bullets and sound bombs."
"Several dozen youths began disturbing the order and throwing stones toward coppers," police said in a statement, adding that "Ten suspects were arrested."
A day earlier, police said they arrested eight people who demonstrated at the Damascus Gate, an entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City, where the nationalist Jewish march had congregated.
Also on Friday, Paleostinians protested near Nablus in the occupied West Bank against the expansion of a Jewish settlement on the lands of Beita village. The Red Islamic Thingy said 47 people were maimed when security forces fired tear gas canisters and rubber bullets.
The al-Aqsa compound lies in East Jerusalem, which Israel annexed in 1967, in a move most of the international community does not recognize.

[National File] Wren Williams, an attorney who helped President Trump fight election fraud before launching his own run for Delegate in Virginia’s 9th District, announced this week that upon victory in November he will sponsor legislation banning racist, anti-American curriculum inspired by critical race theory and the New York Times’ 1619 Project in Virginia’s schools.
Citing the widely reported clash between Loudoun County parents and school board members surrounding the embedding of critical race theory into the county’s school curricula, Williams announced his plans to introduce the bill banning critical race theory and the 1619 Project in a recent press release.

[ARABNEWS] Albert Einstein perfectly summed up political risk thinking when he said: "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler." The best analysts understand there is an absolute need to explain a planet of infinite complexity in accurate, relatable terms that captures the essence of what is going on. However, nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits... there is an accompanying great danger that the drive toward elegant simplicity intellectually morphs into a shallow caricature of the world that fundamentally misleads.

an endless series of G7 meetings amounting to nothing.
[NPASYRIA] On Friday, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) called on the UN and the UN Security Council not to close the "Afrin Hospital crime" file and to form a special and impartial international committee to investigate, reveal the responsible parties and bring the perpetrators to justice.
"We strongly rejects that the crime should go unpunished," the SDC said in statement, calling for this file to be separated from the political discussions taking place between the parties, because it was an attempt to accuse the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The SDC accused parties related to the Syrian National Coalition of committing a massacre against innocent civilians in Afrin, with the aim of accusing the SDF ahead of meetings between the presidents of the United States and Russia on the one hand, and the United States and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... on the other.
The statement described this as a "ridiculous performance" of the opposition coalition, considering the coalition’s representatives’ demand for Turkey to occupy more Syrian lands and displace more Syrians as "impudence."
The SDC statement pointed out that the Syrian Coalition should have anticipated international meetings "by any action that contributes to realizing the hopes and aspirations of the Syrian people for peace, freedom and stability."
It considered that the coalition’s attempts to distort the image of the SDF will not reach their goal, "because the whole world knows who are the killers of innocent civilians, who are the olive thieves and thieves of the people’s property, and who settled the settlers in the homes of the displaced."
The SDC added that it refuses to turn the blood of innocent Syrian people into "mere pressure cards used to strengthen the positions of the occupiers in their negotiations with the major countries."
On June 12, media reported the killing of more than ten people and the injury of several others in two separate artillery attacks on the city of Afrin.
The first attack targeted a residential area, while the second targeted a hospital in the city.
However, by candlelight every wench is handsome... no party claimed the attack on Afrin Hospital, while Turkey and the Syrian opposition were quick to accuse the SDF.
Following the attack, the SDF Commander-in-Chief, Mazloum Abdi, tweeted, "We condemn the attack without reservation. Targeting hospitals is a violation of international law."
The SDF denied reports that the SDF targeted the city of Afrin, north Syria.
For its part, the US Department of State condemned the attacks on Afrin region, northwest Syria, and called for a ceasefire.

Don't know if taxpayers or any responsible adults are still living in the area. maybe they all moved and nobody noticed or really cares, likely not.
[BREITBART] Rep. Cindy Axne (D-IA) praised Vice President Kámala Harris Former Oakland mayor Willie Brown's former mistress, then a senatrix from California, former 2020 Dem presidential hopeful, and now Joe Biden's wing nut. She's displaying her level of competence in her hanling of the Biden Border Surge for her handling of the nation’s ongoing crisis at the United States-Mexico border, even as illegal immigration has continued to surge.
In footage from a town hall with constituents obtained by Breitbart News, Axne said she supported Harris’ approach at the border, which has yet to include a visit to the region.
"I think what Vice President Harris is doing is what we need to be doing, what we should have done ages ago, which is going down and work with those countries where people are coming from," Axne told constituents.
This month, Harris visited Guatemala and Mexico to meet with government officials in both countries. During her trip to Guatemala, she told migrants colonists "Do not come" to the U.S., even as President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. Old, boring, a plagiarist, fond of hair sniffing and grabbing the protruding parts of women, and not whatcha call brilliant... or is that an act?... ’s administration has dismantled the legal wall that had kept a lid on illegal immigration for the last couple of years.
As part of that dismantling, Biden and Harris have thrown out the "Remain in Mexico" program that nearly eliminated asylum fraud and ended the widely criticized Catch and Release policy. Instead, migrants colonists enrolled in Remain in Mexico are being released into the U.S. interior.
In addition, Biden and Harris canceled U.S. agreements with Central America that reduced illegal immigration by requiring migrants colonists to seek asylum in the nearest safe country they enter.
The result has been waves of illegal immigration that show no sign of slowing down.
In May, federal immigration officials apprehended more than 172,000 border crossers — a nearly 700 percent increase in illegal immigration compared to the same time last year.
Axne also suggested that border crossers arriving at the southern border are merely "refugees" who are legally allowed to cross international borders if they are fleeing violence. A federal appeals court last week, though, reaffirmed that fleeing violence is not a legitimate claim for asylum in the U.S. But Axne said:
What these folks who are coming to this country are doing is legal. They’re coming here as refugees and that’s legal … you know what, here’s the deal, there are folks who are fleeing extreme situations where their children are at risk of their lives, their families are at risk.
[ToloNews] Abdullah Abdullah ...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president... , head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, in an address to Antalya Diplomacy Forum in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... on Friday called on the Taliban ...Arabic for students... to engage in talks, reiterating that there is a "real opportunity" for peace in the country that should be utilized.
"There is a real opportunity for peace, and it is our collective obligation to make the most of it," Abdullah said. "The Afghan crisis has no military solution; hence I urge the Taliban to engage in good faith in talks and negotiations with the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Afghanistan as soon as possible and help bring an end to the violence."
Abdullah said that the world spent 20 years in Afghanistan, not only to contain terrorism but also prevent a breeding ground from re-emergence.
"We are thankful for that generous and costly global endeavor. We are now at a point where we not only need to end our internal conflict through political means, but we still need to be vigilant and assure resilience as well as containment as part of a paradigm shift that can assure peace and an acceptable and inclusive end-state for the people of Afghanistan," he said.
This comes as violence has intensified following the start of the withdrawal of US and coalition forces from Afghanistan. A parliamentary committee on Thursday reported fighting on 200 fronts across the country in just a day. Moreover, at least 30 districts have fallen to the Taliban in the last two months.
The negotiations in Doha have stalled after the announcement of the withdrawal of US and coalition forces by President Joe Biden ...... 46th president of the U.S. Old, boring, a plagiarist, fond of hair sniffing and grabbing the protruding parts of women, and not whatcha call brilliant... or is that an act?...... . The negotiating teams from the Afghan Republic and the Taliban held a meeting later this week, discussing ways to hold future meetings, but the high level of violence has diminished hopes for a progress in the negotiations.
Moreover, top Pentagon officials on Thursday said that turban groups like al Qaeda could pose a threat from Afghanistan to the United States and American allies in two years after the full withdrawal of international troops from the country.
While in Turkey, Abdullah met with foreign ministers of Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... and Pakistain.
In meeting with Iran Foreign Minister Javad Zarif ...foreign minister of the Medes and the Persians, Mouthpiece of Mullahs, good friend of John Kerry and similar exemplars of Merkin values... , Abdullah said they exchanged views on the Afghan grinding of the peace processor, intra-Afghan talks, the latest political and security developments, and the two countries bilateral relations.
Abdullah said in another tweet that he had a "detailed and frank discussion" with Pakistain Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Wormtongue Qureshi ...a Pak political shape-changer. He is undistinguished except for his habit of periodically needing to have his lips reattached... and that they exchanged views on the grinding of the peace processor and bilateral relations.
Abdullah said that Qureshi assured him of "Pakistain’s full support for the acceleration of peace talks and stability in Afghanistan."
The remarks come as a UN report in January said there are at least 500 al Qaeda gunnies in Afghanistan and that the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... maintains a close relationship with the group. The Taliban has denied having ties with al Qaeda.
[PUBLISH.TWITTER] Several beheadings, including of teenagers, have been reported around the restive northern Mozambique town of Palma since it was attacked by Death Eaters in March, a charity and local sources said on Friday.
Palma and surrounding areas have been on tenterhooks since Death Eaters linked to ISIS launched a raid of unprecedented scale on the town, killing dozens and forcing tens of thousands to flee.
Many sought refuge in nearby Quitunda, a resettlement village next to a heavily guarded gas exploration site operated by French oil giant Total and abandoned days after the raid.
Several bouts of low-key violence have been reported since the Death Eaters retreated.
British charity Save the Children on Friday said it was "shocked and appalled" by news this week of two 15-year-old boys being beheaded in Palma on Sunday.
The teenagers were among a group of 15 adults who had left Quitunda in search of food, according to the independent news outlet Carta de Mocambique, which reported the incident.
Two adults were also killed, it added.
"We are appalled and disgusted at this senseless crime," Save the Children Mozambique country director Chance Briggs said in a statement.
The insurgency is "having a continual, horrific, deadly impact on children," he said.
"They are being killed, they are being kidnapped, they are being recruited for use by gangs."
One local source in the scenic provincial capital Pemba said relatives in Quitunda had heard of "insurgents" beheading several people on Saturday.
Momade Bachir, who is regularly in touch with family members still stranded around Palma, told AFP that four residents were attacked after they left the town to pick manioc in surrounding fields.
Another three beheaded bodies were found near Pemba that evening, according to Bachir.
[ToloNews] Clashes were reported in 13 provinces in the last 24 hours with security forces evacuating two districts in the north while retaking control of one district in the south on Thursday night.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) claimed that 258 Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... were killed in security forces operations in Nangarhar The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country.. , Laghman ...Afghan province with a population of about 445,600, which is multi-ethnic and mostly a rural society. During the invasions of Alexander the Great, the area was known as Lampaka, wich is apparently Olde Macedonian for Laghman. The city of Mihtarlam serves as the bucolic capital of the province. The population is half Pashtun, the remainder Tadjik and Pashai. It had a repution for great wealth until it was conquered in the tenth century by Abu Mansur Sabuktigin.
He conquered it and set fire to the places in its vicinity which were inhabited by infidels, and demolishing the idol-temples, he established Islam in them, He marched and captured other cities and killed the polluted wretches, destroying the idolatrous and gratifying the Musulmans. After wounding and killing beyond all measure, his hands and those of his friends became cold in counting the value of the plundered property.
After that it was mostly notable for the production of dirt, rocks, and holy men... , Paktia, Zabul, Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... , Farah, Ghor, Faryab, Balkh, Jawzjan, Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... , Takhar and Baghlan provinces in the last 24 hours.
Taliban has rejected the figures.
The security forces evacuated from the center of Shirin Tagab district in Faryab and Dahana-e-Ghori district in Baghlan. The Defense Ministry said that security forces retook the control of Gereshk district in Helmand.
Moreover, an Afghan National Army base was fallen to the Taliban in Maidan Shahr, the center of Maidan Wardak province, a source said.
A base was fallen to the Taliban in Qala-e-Kah district in Farah province on Thursday evening.
The Taliban launched attacks on Qala-e-Kah district in the last two days, sources said, adding that at least eight security force members were killed in the festivities.
"There is the possibility that the city of Maimana (in Faryab) and Khawja Sabzposh district (in Faryab) will fall to the Taliban; therefore, there is a need for air support," an MP Shafiqa Sakha Youlchi said.
"The Shirin Tagab district has been under siege for three years," said Sibghatullah Silab, the deputy head of the Faryab provincial council. "The district will fall to Taliban due to lack of supply and weaponry."
According to Faryab provincial council, several military vehicles and equipment were seized by the Taliban in Shirin Tagab.
Defense Ministry front man Rohullah Ahmadzai said that operations have had progress in some of the areas that were evacuated by security forces.
Violence has intensified following the start of the withdrawal of US and coalition forces from Afghanistan.
Former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body....... . The negotiating teams from the Afghan Republic and the Taliban held a meeting later this week, discussing ways to hold future meetings, but the high level of violence has diminished hopes for progress in the negotiations.

Hibatullah Akhundzada, mentioned by name along with Sirajuddin Haqqani in a 2019 Al Qaeda missive as "our leaders from the Islamic emirate of Afghanistan"? How very revealing your choices are, Black dirt.

We gave the Afghans a half decent chance to take their country back from the ravages of Islam but it appears not to be. I hope their Olympic team does well in the winter Olympics in Japan. I hear their figure skating team is one of the best.

Thanks Badanov. Certainly I had learned the most of it, but a wonderful diversion and excellent refresher. Stressful family times around Casa Cesare these days and I sure appreciate the chance to leave it behind for a bit.
[ARABNEWS] Dozens of tribal chiefs have been arrested across Afghanistan on charges of encouraging government soldiers to surrender to the Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... , officials and politicians said on Friday, as the turbans have stepped up attacks against Kabul forces.
Fighting in Afghanistan has intensified in the past weeks as the US is set end its military presence in the war-battered country by Sept. 11. The Taliban have advanced their strikes, raising concerns in Kabul that they might retake power either by force or by winning over government troops.
The Interior Ministry announced earlier this week that the involvement of village elders in persuading Kabul soldiers to leave their bases in return for safe passage is "direct cooperation with the enemy."
"Dozens of them have been arrested, their cases will be referred to legal and judicial authorities," the ministry’s front man Tariq Arian told Arab News.
The arrests have been taking place for the past two weeks. In eastern Nuristan province, 19 tribal chiefs were arrested after the Taliban took over two districts earlier this month. "God willing, the arrests have had an impact. That is why the government took this decision," Nuristan police chief Aqel Shah Khelwati said.
He said that some of the arrested said they had been "forced by the Taliban" to mediate with soldiers.
The Taliban have confirmed they had dispatched delegations comprising tribal chiefs in some regions, but the group’s front man, Zabihullah Mujahid, denied forcing them to do so.
Some Afghan politicians have approved the arrests, with Fawzia Raoufi, a parliament member from northern Faryab province, saying the government "should hinder" the surrender of its soldiers after 300 military and police personnel gave in to the Taliban in the Sherin Tagab district on Thursday evening.
She admitted, however, that the troops were left with no support for days. "These troops had asked for air support for days, nothing happened, so they went over to the Taliban. There were 84 functioning armored vehicles, ammunition and arms that fell to the Taliban," Raoufi said. "It is a tragedy and strengthens the Taliban."
The Taliban say they have captured over 20 districts in Afghanistan since early May when US-led forces began to withdraw. The government has conceded loss of some areas but gave no details.
The arrests have aroused controversy as mediatory efforts are common in the country’s rural areas.
"Local conflicts are customarily settled by mediation. This is our true culture," Torek Farhadi, adviser to former president Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai ...Former president of Aghanistan, part of the problem not part of the solution... , said.
"By negotiating a truce, human lives are saved, and families keep loved ones alive on both sides of the conflict," he said. "If community leaders accomplish their Islamic duty by negotiating to avoid bloodshed, that is great news as it can herald localized pockets of peace in the future in Afghanistan."
For Haroun Rahimi, a political science professor at the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul, the surrender of troops can have "dire political and strategic" consequences by affecting the army’s morale, the state’s legitimacy and fragmenting the anti-Taliban coalition.
He added, however, that "punishing influential locals is going to alienate local communities and create anti-government sentiment."

[AMERICANTHINKER] Back when Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. You're a lyin' dog-faced pony soldier... was shaking down fat-cat donors for cash and getting out there in his first moves to run for president in 2018, son Hunter, was having the time of his life.
No one in the press noticed this. But among West Hollywood's elite hoteliers, they knew, they knew it very well.
According to text messages found on Hunter Biden ......son of President Joe: cashiered from the Navy, a crackhead, wheeler dealer, leg humper, horn dog, and general all around ne'er do well. We're supposed to feel sorry for him..... 's abandoned laptop computer, he conversed with an employee pal at the famed old grand West Hollywood hotel Chateau Marmont, a celebrity redoubt he had been using as his flophouse, writing:
"Did you know that I have to get pre-approval from the GM at the Chateau before I am allowed to make a reservation?" Biden texted a Chateau employee. "Seriously I tried to stay there late last night and the Ass handing me keys when he read a note in the system that said under no circumstance am I allowed in bldg without her pre approval."
The employee offered to check on Biden’s status and texted later with an update.
"Apparently you were banned for ’drug use’ is what I was just told, which is bull****," the employee relayed.
Then the following exchange occurred:
Biden: "Manager — GM — f*** them. It was so f***ing embarrassing. The two women at the drive were right there and said wtf. Drug use???? You have to be ducking kidding me. I was banned for drug use at the Chateau Marmont. You have to be f***ing kidding me."
Employee: "Lol exactly."
Biden: "Well that’s a f***ing first in the Hotels history I guess. Should I take it as a badge of honor. Tell you what?"
Employee: "Don’t stress. If you need anything just ask. Let’s grab a drunk soon."
No, he's not the first. And no, it's not a badge of honor. Hunter joined the likes of Brittany Spears who had been banned in 2007, and Lindsey Lohan, who had been banned in 2012, both for revolting behavior.

This is the hotel where John Belushi overdosed and died on a combination of cocaine and heroin. The hotel is infamous for lurid events like that. Did they learn something from Belushi or is Hunter really that much worse?

Hunter is much worse.
Belushi harmed himself. Biden Jr. harmed
His family -- while still married and living with his wife, Biden:
- slept with his dead brother's widow
- spent millions on crack and whores
- hit on his 14 year-old niece
- set up his own livesteaming pr0n channel under the name "Robert Hunter" in which he cavorted with whores while smoking crack
His business partners and the government -- Biden:
- committed tax evasion and probably embezzlement and fraud as well in his many shady business dealings, several of which resulted in convictions for wire fraud and embezzlement for his business partners
His country -- Biden:
- sold access to the nation's Vice President, his father, for many millions of dollars
- jetted around the world with his father on Air Force Two in order to score business deals with cronies of the leaders whom his father was meeting on official state visits
- created corrupt sham businesses in partnership with a known shell corporation operated by the Chinese government for the express purpose of trapping gullible corrupt high-level foreign officials
So, No, this berserk POS is most definitely not your ordinary wayward Hollywood cokehead. Biden (and his family) are a national menace and persistent threat to this nation's security.

As Iranian state TV showed people streaming to cast their ballots on Friday and news anchors praising the voters, very different scenes played out on the streets of Tehran, where many polling places appeared relatively empty.
Amid rising anger and apathy over a presidential vote tipped in favor of Ebrahim Raisi, the hard-line judiciary chief cultivated by Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei ...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini... , the election atmosphere was distinctly subdued, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported.
"It is useless," said Ali Hosseini, a 36-year-old unemployed resident in southern Tehran, about the exercise of voting.
"Anyone who wins the election after some time says he cannot solve the problem of the economy because of intervention by influential people. He then forgets his promises and we poor people again are disappointed."
At 16 different polling stations across Tehran, witnesses described lines of voters as "short" as no more than eight voters at a time could be seen casting ballots.
Some polls remained virtually deserted throughout the day. Listless poll workers listened to state radio, looked at their phones, or chatted calmly.

(NCRI), a Europe-based opposition group, said that according to reports, pictures, and video clips from polling stations across 220 cities in 31 provinces, the "sham" election was met with a widespread boycott.
Reports from polling station staff in many areas of Tehran, such as the Qamar Bani Hashem Mosque, Armaghan Alam, and polling stations in Tehran’s second district, which includes 64 polling stations, show participation was very meager.
Former hard-line populist President Mahmoud Short Round Ahmadinejad seized on popular anger by repeating his decision to stay home and not vote. He warned that the heavily restricted process will produce a government without domestic or international legitimacy.

Jack McDevitt is well known to fans of science fiction novels that use the human race’s spread across the galaxy as the backdrop for adventure. One of McDevitt’s series of books is the Alex Benedict stories. It’s said that Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek series was "Wagontrain to the stars," and it’s fair to consider the Benedict books as "Jim Rockford travels the galaxy."
Alex is an antiquities dealer, and in the year 11,000 (by our time, not theirs, as our calendar is one more lost antiquity in these stories), there are a lot more antiquities out there to find, recover and sell. Alex loves a mystery and he brings that hunger to his work. Mankind is spread out over portions of the Milky Way, encountering new opportunities, new problems, and finally, intelligent galactic neighbors, a telepathic, not entirely friendly race known to most humans as "the Mutes." In the distant future, much of the distant past has been lost. At one point, Alex muses "Wouldn’t it be interesting to know what Lincoln looked like? What his voice was like?" This is a jolt for the reader, realizing that history we consider well known now can be lost in the future.
Alex’s right hand is superluminal pilot Chase Kolpath. It turns out human women have a physiological advantage over men at flying faster than light ships and Chase handles the Artificial Intelligence equipped Belle-Marie like she was born to it. As her mother was also an FTL pilot, maybe Chase was born to it. In one episode, Chase is flying a different ship and the AI tells her, "You are the only human I have ever met that makes me wish that perhaps I was human myself." The issue of whether AIs are being treated by humans as second class citizens is a recurrent theme in these stories, and in one case, Belle takes control of the situation in a HAL like manner that leads to historic changes in how most humans view and interact with AIs.
In their adventures, Alex and Chase recover the legendary space warrior Christopher Sim’s flagship (A Talent for War), unravel the disappearance of the FTL space yacht Polaris (Polaris) and help rescue the interstellar Capella, a ship lost for years in hyperspace after an experiment gone wrong (Coming Home). In this amazing future, politics and media shenanigans are all too familiar. The human race has broken the speed of light and learned to interact with non-human intelligence, but still needs to gossip, connive and make costly mistakes. At every step, it’s Alex’s idealism and urge to solve a mystery focused by Chase’s practicality and savvy piloting that moves the stories along.
If I have any complaint about these books, it’s that the supporting characters are often drawn a little thinly. The other side of that coin is the interactions between the humans and the Mutes are at times spine tingling. The concept of a species that can read our minds is unsettling and provocative in McDevitt’s presentation. The Mutes are not confused or tormented by the mental hubbub around them. They have it totally under control. Still, they can’t best their human counterparts.
The recurrent characters are all well fleshed out and drive the stories effectively.
In the end, you want to root for Alex and Chase just as you want to root for the crew of the Enterprise. I think that’s what any healthy sci-fi reader hopes for from our future selves in a hostile galaxy. I know it’s what I want from the sci-fi I’m willing to read. I’d like to visit Skydeck and take a trip on the Belle-Marie myself.
Jack McDevitt has written more than 20 science fiction novels and dozens of short stories. His other big series is the Pricilla Hutchence books. He’s a repeat Nebula Award winner.

[Rudaw] One woman was killed in an attack on an office of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund... ’s Izmir on Thursday, the party announced in a statement, accusing Turkey’s ruling party of the attack.
The alleged perpetrator, identified by the governor’s office as a former health worker with the initials OG, opened fire on the second floor of the building housing the HDP office and killed one person.
"Our friend, Deniz Poyraz, was murdered in the attack on our Izmir district building," HDP tweeted.
The suspect has been arrested and an investigation is underway, according to the governor’s office.
HDP blamed the Justice and Development Party (AKP), the ruling party of President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than there are in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really most important... , and its ally the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
"The instigator and abettor of this brutal attack is the AKP-MHP government and the Ministry of Interior which constantly targets our party and our members," HDP tweeted.
"It is the government that targets our party and our provincial organizations; it is the Ministry of Interior that directs the provocateurs," HDP said in a statement on its website.
HDP is a vocal opponent of the AKP-MHP alliance, which accuses the pro-Kurdish party of ties with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Today, hundreds of HDP members and supporters are under investigation or in jail, including Selahattin Demirtas, the HDP’s former leader along with his co-chair Figen Yuksekdag. Most are accused by Ottoman Turkish authorities of having ties to the PKK, considered a terrorist organization in Turkey.

Last time a Liberal President (Oct 3rd/4th 1993) sent SFOD's to Somalia I lost 2 friends I worked around.
I hope this time around they are allowed to do more than have their skills wasted playing UN Peace Keeper for political showboating.
Besides ... What vital Nation Interest does the USA have in Africa? A Continent in a TRIBAL WAR for 2,500+ years. A BLACK Continent that still practices Slavery, Pillaging (looting) and murders of each other.
Or does Harris/Pelosi/biden see ANTI-FArt and BLOM need replacements already?
The African Union (AO) is comprised of 55 member nations. Stay out of it. Life Magazine cover from Feb 1966. Fighting terrorists in the Congo. Nothing in that region has changed in half a century. Nothing is likely to ever change there.
I believe I remember an operation in Oct 1993 in which U.S. special forces were deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia to destabilize the government and bring food and humanitarian aid to the starving population. How did that turn out ?
55 States (September 2018) – Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cabo Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau. Kenya, the Kingdom of Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Kingdom of Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
------------- ADDITIONAL COMMENT---------------
Agreed.
With Africa comprised of 50+ nations, why does the USA need to be in Africa? Why isn't the African Union stepping in an helping?
The $$$$ wasted in Africa could better be used here in any US Large Metro area.
Where we have US Citizens and families living in absolute squalor. Think of what those wasted $$$ Billions could do here where it is actually needed and could be LOANED, not given, to qualified persons seeking a Leg up and willing to work at improving their lives and not coast along on the Voter Plantation?
There is also is other train of thought:
Because RUSSIA-IRAN/CHINA is making strong African in-roads and the USA Political Donors need to stake out some territorial areas to protect interests like to oil in the Gulf of Aden / Horn of Africa area? No to mention Uranium mining activities.
eg.... Uranium exploration and mining in Somalia have been hindered by the Al-Shabaab militia group which has captured some of the main deposits, especially in the Galmudug region. The group has been accused of illegally exporting Uranium to Iran in exchange for weapons.
So is this another way of keeping IRAN from getting more NUKE material?
[USATODAY] Writing for the Court, Chief Justice John Roberts held "The refusal of Philadelphia to contract with CSS for the provision of foster care services unless it agrees to certify same-sex couples as foster parents...violates the First Amendment."
It is a major win for religious rights and the Court spoke as one in reversing the lower courts with a strong majority opinion and concurring opinions. It also adds strength to other pending cases, including yet another case involving the Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado to make cakes celebrating LGBT events.
After winning a narrow decision before the Supreme Court ...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations... in 2018, Jack Phillips was pursued by critics to make additional cakes and create the basis for another challenge. They may now regret that decision if Phillips builds on the earlier narrow ruling to secure another major ruling not just on religious freedom but free speech grounds.
The Court continues to frustrate critics who insist that it is dysfunctional, divided and needs to be radically changed from packing the Court with a liberal majority to actually creating a new court for constitutional rulings like the Fulton case.
For example, Professor Kent Greenfield argued that "the Supreme Court has become too partisan and unbalanced to trust it with deciding the most important issues of our day."
The Court itself however is not cooperating with this inconvenient line of unanimous decisions. The fact is that most of the opinions of the Court are not ideologically divided. Indeed, Justice Stephen Breyer recently objected to those calling the Court "conservative" and opposed those demanding that Congress pack the Court to achieve an immediate liberal majority.
[OneIndia] In furtherance of its investigation, the National Investigation Agency had earlier this week filed a chargesheet against an Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... operative for trying to set up a province of the ISIS in the forests of South India.
During the course of the investigations, the NIA learnt that these operatives were in the process of setting up an ISIS Daishwilayah or province inside the jungles of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. When it was unraveled in 2020, the NIA said that this was the first of its kind plot.
The case arose following the arrest of a few persons who had conspired at Salem and Chennai who had fraudulently activated SIM cards by using multiple identity documents of various persons without their knowledge and consent.
The NIA in its chargesheet said that there were 20 members part of this module, which was headed by Mehboob Pasha, a Bengaluru based operative and Khaja Moideen from Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu.
They had planned on visiting Shivanasamudra in Karnataka and identify a place in the jungle where training could be imparted. Before they were busted by the NIA, they had already procured tents, bows, arrows, boots, arms, ammunition, sleeping bags, ropes and ladders. They had also procured a large quantity of firecrackers to extract explosive content and make IEDs, the NIA chargesheet read.
Further the NIA also learnt that they had scouted for similar hideouts in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, Kolar, Kodagu (Karnataka), Burdwan, Siliguri (West Bengal) and Chittor in Andhra Pradesh. They wanted to set up ISIS provinces in these jungles and then launch systematic attacks with the primary intention of killing Hindu leaders, government officials, coppers and politicians, the NIA said.
In its supplementary chargesheet the NIA named Syed Ali, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram. The NIA said that Ali along with the rest of were also making and testing IEDs and used the dark web for communications with their foreign based handler as part of the preparations to wage Jihad. They were also trying to establish a province of the ISIS in the forests of South India, the NIA said.

A racist to the bone, Lori sez that people with the same skin tone all think alike, not quite getting the implications for a city with a population less than thirty percent black... appeared to reverse her previous refusal to seek or accept federal assistance in quashing gun violence by calling for a "united front" between the city and Washington, D.C.Raymond Lopez, who has previously sparred with Lightfoot on the topic of surging crime and gun violence in the Windy City, told "The Story" that while he does not like former President Trump, he views Lightfoot as playing politics with Chicagoans as she suddenly wants help from President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. We get to suffer the consequences... "It's completely hypocritical from this mayor that didn't want help from President Trump—whom I was not a fan of—but now needs help from Joe Biden," he told Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum. "Clearly the politics of it was more important than saving peoples' lives."
Lopez, one of 50 members of a city council that lacks a single Republican alderman, added that Chicago is on pace to have 800 murders by the end of 2021.

[AmericanThinker] Critical Race Theory opponents are the new Tea Party, a grassroots phenomenon all over the country, mobilizing both activists and people with political background at all to oppose the teaching of race-hatred. There is nothing quite as powerful in exciting passions in adults as a threatening their children. And make no mistake: Critical Race Theory harms children deeply, teaching Blacks that they are victims and can't succeed on their own, and teaching non-Blacks that they are born evil.
[TWITTER]
Watch this parent absolutely obliterate Critical Race Theory at an Illinois school board meeting:
[PJMedia] Voddie Baucham Jr., a well-regarded author, Christian intellectual, and pastor, might have ended up a statistic. Raised by a single mother in South Central Los Angeles, which was then in the throes of the crack epidemic, Baucham could very well have been just another tragedy in a long line of sad stories about kids who grow up in the hood, fatherless and hopeless. Critical race theory proponents, who have infiltrated nearly every aspect of our culture, would say that no one could blame Baucham if he’d ended up jobless, homeless, or in prison. The movement—which sorts all humans according to their immutable characteristics and ranks them in hierarchies of oppression or victimhood—would claim that Baucham was born a victim simply by virtue of his skin color.
Instead, he became a standout Division I football player and went on to earn a pile of degrees that space does not permit me to list. He’s written scores of books, pastored a church, and is currently dean of the School of Divinity at African Christian University in Zambia. His new book, Fault Lines: The Social Justice Movement and Evangelicalism’s Looming Catastrophe (Salem/Regnery), is not only a repudiation of Marxist critical justice theory, but also a warning to the church about the growing divide between two Christian camps: one that relies wholly on scripture as a source of truth, and a second that relies on a dangerous, unbiblical ideology—one that Baucham calls a cult (more on that in a moment).
Baucham defines and explains critical justice theory—a broader term that encompasses more than just race—by prodigiously citing the writings of its proponents, using an earthquake as a metaphor for the "seismic shifts in the evangelical landscape," a fault line, if you will. From the very first chapter of this excellent book—a must-read for anyone who wants to understand critical justice theory—Baucham insists that ethnic tensions are not the problem, nor are political divisions. Rather, the problem is social justice versus biblical justice, the former being "incompatible with biblical Christianity."
Mr. Baucham is a bit out there for my taste, but he clearly knows whereof he speaks on this subject, and deserves full respect for pulling himself up by his bootstraps instead of letting the common excuses drown him.
[DW] After a long period of preparation, Germany's first Islamic studies college has opened. Officials are optimistic that it will help fight extremism.
It was "the right step in the right direction" for Ender Cetin. The child of Ottoman Turkish immigrants colonists was born and raised in Berlin. Now as a 45-year-old he belongs to the first class of Germany's first Islamic studies college. Based in Osnabruck, the program began this week after many delays during the pandemic.
Cetin, who is already a lay imam, told DW that he was impressed with "the idea that something can take place in Germany to train imams 'Made in Germany,' which offers a future."
PRAISE FROM THE INTERIOR MINISTER
The college in Osnabruck is part of an initiative that has received particular attention from German Interior Minister, Horst Seehofer, whose sprawling ministry is responsible for national security and religious affairs.
At last year's German Islam Conference, Seehofer called plans for the college good news for Moslems in Germany. The government has taken pains to reduce the influence of foreign-trained imams, especially from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire... Increasing the number of German-speaking and -preaching imams has been an important goal for the ministry, which provided initial funding for the college.
The support is conditioned on the program's conducting instruction in German and being tied to an institution of higher education, which the two-year program in Osnabruck fulfills. The college says its first class includes 25 people, with another 25 registered for continuing education courses.
Bulent Ucar, an Islamic studies professor from the associated Osnabruck University, who helped set up the college, told DW that the participants — whose families frequently have Ottoman Turkish, Arab and Bosnian roots — represent the diversity of Islam. Twenty percent of the students are women.
Ucar said some Moslem communities "no longer understand" their imams if they don't speak German — a communication gap that can lead to especially younger members drifting toward krazed killer content online, he added.
'UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY'
"We have a unique opportunity to serve the practical needs of mosques," Aiman Mazyek, the chairman of the Central Council of Moslems, told DW. The next challenge, he said, will be to win the acceptance of Moslem communities for these newly German-trained imams.
"I think this is a turning point for Moslem history in Germany," said Cetin, the trainee. His own experience has shown that the need for this kind of practical training will only grow as "more and more young people prefer speaking about their religion in German."

The relationship between Nazi Germany and the leadership of the Arab world encompassed contempt, propaganda, collaboration, and in some instances emulation. Cooperative political and military relationships were founded on shared hostilities toward common enemies, such as the United Kingdom and the French Third Republic, along with communism, and Zionism. Another key foundation of this collaboration was the anti-Semitism of the Nazis and their hostility towards the United Kingdom and France, which was admired by some Arab and Muslim leaders, most notably the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem

[The Last Refuge] President Donald Trump was impeached under the false pretense of withholding military assistance from Ukraine (he never did). Intelligence Community operative Lt. Col Alexander Vindman testified to congress that President Trump’s decision to pause military assistance to Ukraine was evidence of some suspicious relationship between President Trump and Russian President Putin.... The media proclaimed Trump was working to assist Russia because President Putin likely had pee tapes, or something.
Fast forward a little more than a year, Joe Biden meets with Putin, gets eviscerated and embarrassed by the diplomatic smack-down from the Russian President, and suddenly Joe Biden is freezing formerly approved military assistance for Ukraine.... IMPEACH !
He’ll never be impeached. Better to spend political capital blocking his plans and getting Trump-aligned Republicans elected.
Do these liars still wonder why hardly anyone believes anything they say?
BTW, anyone seen Biden's crackhead son lately?
Are they still denying that Biden knew about and participated in this maniac's dozens of influence selling business ventures -- including his corrupt deals with Ukrainian and Russian thieves?
[FoxNews] Texas is transferring inmates from a corrections facility in South Texas so it can handle criminal illegal immigrants, as the state’s governor moves to arrest those in the country illegally who have committed a state or federal crime as part of the state's response to the crisis at the southern border.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) confirmed that the state’s Department of Criminal Justice has started moving inmates from the Dolph Briscoe Unit in Dilley to other facilities with capacity across the state. That will allow capacity for criminal illegal immigrants.
"The state of Texas continues to deal with a significant number of individuals illegally crossing the border," a spokesperson said in a statement. "To address the ongoing crisis, Governor Abbott is directing state resources to arrest and confine those individuals crossing the border unlawfully and who have committed a state or federal crime."
The facility is about an hour away from the border town of Laredo and has 1,000 beds. The facility was "depopulated," meaning inmates were transferred to other spots with capacity. The move was first reported by The Marshall Project.
"TDCJ is working collaboratively with the Office of the Governor, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Commission on Jail Standards, Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, and the Texas Division of Emergency Management to ensure the safe and secure detention of unlawful immigrants charged with a state offense," the statement said.
The state launched Operation Lone Star in March to combat the smuggling of people and drugs into Texas. This week, Abbott announced a slew of measures to combat illegal immigration, including signing a letter to put down a $250 million down payment on a border wall.
Greg Abbott: Texas will increase arrests, build wall at borderVideo
Abbott said border states like Texas have seen "carnage" from people coming over. He said that in the first four months of the year, the Texas Department of Public Safety saw an 800% increase in the amount of fentanyl apprehended at the border – enough to kill more than 21 million Americans.
"Make no mistake, the border crisis that we’re dealing with right now is a direct result of the open border policies that have been put in place by the Biden administration," he said.
The definitive fisking on the subject can be seen here. And no, the lady was no trafficking victim. She and her two best friends from school (Amira Abase and Kadiza Sultana) fell in love with the romantic idea of being jihadi wives and brood mares for the new Muslim nation, seduced by messages from Pak-Scot Aqsa Mahmood, who was an earlier adopter. Umm Three-Dead-Babies thrived in her chosen environment, marrying a Dutch convert and being promoted to enforcer in the women’s branch of the ISIS morality police before it all fell apart.
[ARABNEWS] A schoolgirl who left Britannia to join ISIS and had her British citizenship revoked was a victim of human trafficking, a court heard on Friday.
Shamima Begum was 15 when she traveled from London to Syria with two fellow pupils in February 2015.
Britannia’s interior ministry revoked her citizenship on national security grounds after she was discovered heavily pregnant in a Syrian refugee camp in February 2019, amid an outcry led by right-wing newspapers.
The Court of Appeal ruled last July that Begum could return to Britannia to challenge the decision.
But the Supreme Court in February overturned the lower court ruling, and prevented her from doing so on national security grounds.
Begum, now 21, is challenging the interior ministry’s decision at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) that deals with deportations on national security grounds and the revocation of citizenship.
Her lawyer, Samantha Knights, claimed Begum was "a child trafficked to and remaining in Syria for the purposes of sexual exploitation and forced marriage."
She also argued that revoking Begum’s citizenship left her stateless and the decision was procedurally unfair.
The court was told Begum was living in a "dire" and "fundamentally unsafe environment in which violence is endemic" in the al-Roj refugee camp in northern Syria.
Knights added there was a "serious and present danger" to Begum after the media located her whereabouts and due to her engagement with Western legal processes.
The lawyer argued against delaying her appeal until the conclusion of a separate case in March 2022.
Lawyer David Blundell, representing Britannia’s interior ministry, said Begum should not be allowed to change the grounds of her appeal.
"The absence of a claim that she has been trafficked means this ground proceeds on an uncertain factual basis. It is entirely speculative," he said.
Begum is of Bangladeshi heritage but the country’s foreign minister has said he will not consider granting her citizenship.
An estimated 900 Britons traveled to Syria and Iraq to join ISIS. The government has prosecuted returnees and revoked more than 150 people’s citizenship, with unconfirmed numbers stuck in Syria.
Rights group Reprieve in April said the government was "systematically failing" vulnerable young women who were trafficked to Syria for sexual and other forms of exploitation.
SIAC judge Robert Jay said he would give a ruling by the end of June.

Basically, christians, perceived racists [all the whites], nationalists who demand better from the govt, coup callers, Trump supporters, anybody who opposes progressive nonsense... have I missed someone? Oh yes, anyone who tries to defend himself against rioters peaceful protesters and blacks taking reparations from citizens.
The part on 'Militia Violent Extremists' is most striking, since it seeks to destroy the 2A altogether, if I understand correctly.

Well well well, what have we here: "influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion."
That would be BLM. CRT. The howling mobs, egged on by Waters, Pelosi, Biden, threatening the Minneapolis jury with death and destruction of they didn't return a foreordained verdict.
That would be the Democrat election official in Detroit who threatened his Republican colleague with harassment and violence if she didn't drop her request for an audit.
That would be Chuck Schumer standing in front of SCOTUS and threatening mob violence against two sitting SCOTUS justices.
That would be Democrats who flooded the Capitol and stalked Congressmen, threatening them if they didn't vote against Kavanaugh.
So when the hell are you going to label all these sick bastards -- especially but not only all the BLM extortionists -- as "DVEs"?
And these assholes wonder why half 80% of the country doubts the leg!timacy of our f3deral g0vernment
[Right Scoop] This story gives me all kinds of ’feels’, as the kids like to say.
You’ve got a law enforcement officer coming to the aid of someone who was involved in a bad wreck, and now is about to die at the hands of some thug who ambushed him and is obviously getting the better of the trooper.
Then our hero with a gun drives by, comes to assist the trooper and saves his life after shooting the thug who was trying to murder him. I swear, it almost brings a tear to my eye knowing that trooper will live because a passerby showed him mercy, and of course brought quick justice to bear on that cretin attacking him.
There’s a reason this video has over 3 million views already. What a great story. Watch the video for more, including hearing the hero civilian call for help on the police radio.
NB: CBS News video posted to YouTube Jan 13, 2017. Events took place in Arizona near Phoenix.
The suspect in a shooting spree targeting pedestrians and vehicles throughout metropolitan Phoenix on Thursday is a teenage security guard who allegedly told police he believed people were after him in the wake of a separate shooting he was involved in while working at a restaurant last month, according to court documents.
Ashin Tricarico, 19, of Surprise, California, was charged Friday with first-degree murder, aggravated assault, drive-by shooting and endangerment in connection with the shootings, which left one person dead and a dozen others injured. There may be additional charges based on the investigation, police said.
He is being held on $1 million bond, according to jail records. Attorney information was not immediately available.
Police said Friday they have not yet identified a motive in the complex case, which involved at least eight different shooting incidents over the course of a 90-minute period Thursday morning throughout the West Valley, according to the Peoria Police Department, which is leading the investigation.
The victims ranged in age from 19 to 56, police said. A 56-year-old man was fatally shot, and three other victims suffered gunshot wounds. Others were injured by broken glass.
According to the probable cause document, during an interview with detectives, Tricarico indicated he believed people were following him around after being involved in a shooting in Phoenix about a month ago, according to the court documents.
"Ashin thinks every vehicle and person he drives past is pointing a gun at him," the court documents stated.
The Phoenix Police Department confirmed to ABC News that Tricarico was involved in a shooting on May 5 at a restaurant where he was working as a licensed armed security guard.
In a statement, the department said Tricarico "was asked to deal with a male customer who was reportedly intoxicated and causing a disturbance."
The customer allegedly charged Tricarico after he went outside to call 911. Tricarico then allegedly fired one shot at the man, striking him and causing a non-life-threatening injury, police said. The aggravated assault case is still under investigation, and Tricarico allegedly told police he shot in self-defense, the department said.
During the interview with detectives after his arrest, Tricarico allegedly admitted to committing some of Thursday's shootings and claimed he was shot at or had a gun pointed at him during them.
Tricarico told police that an "unknown male" pointed a gun at the suspect at a car wash Thursday morning, after which Tricarico then allegedly bought ammunition for his AR-15-style rifle, according to the court documents.
To start the spree, the suspect allegedly stared down a person outside a Circle K convenience store and then exchanged words with him before following him in his car and shooting at the victim, according to the documents.
He allegedly told police that in one of the shooting incidents, a pedestrian shot at him "so he shot back," and in a second incident, a man in a car pointed a handgun at him "so he shot back at him."
Tricarico requested an attorney "when told he had killed a man" and the interview ended, the court documents stated.
Police covered an AR-15 rifle and two magazines in his car, and multiple .223-caliber shell casings were found from the crime scenes, according to court documents.
Several witnesses positively identified Tricarico as the alleged shooter in their incidents, according to court documents.
Police do not believe there are any additional suspects in Thursday's shootings.

[Rudaw] Yazidis displaced from Shingal in 2014 have now been forced to flee IDP camps in Zakho due to nearby Ottoman Turkish bombardments.
More than 3,000 people have had to leave Bersive 1, Bersive 2 and Derkar camps due to Ottoman Turkish operations in the area, according to Khalat Osman, the municipal manager of Zakho's camps.
"War happens every day, with constant Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s. We're very scared. Each of us has struggled with mental health issues at some point," said Amira Ilyas, who lives in Bersive 1 camp.
Families have left the camps for Shingal and villages in Zakho.
“When we fled ISIS [the Islamic state] we came here and started planting tomatoes on the Ottoman Turkish border. Airstrikes take place every day. They use RPGs and mortars to attack this area. No one dares come here," said Murad Khidr, who is now living in Karne village.
"My family moved here today. We heard jets and machine guns, and our families were terrified. That's why people leave the camps," Hassan Naamat said from the village.
The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... launched renewed operations against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Duhok province in April. Several civilians have been injured and numerous villages emptied due to the offensive.
Turkish bombardment causes massive fire in Duhok forest: official
[Rudaw] The Ottoman Turkish army bombarded the vicinity of five populated villages in Duhok province on Tuesday, causing a great fire which has led to the scorching of thousands of dunams of land, a local official told Rudaw English on Wednesday.
Sarbast Sabri, mayor of Kani Masi subdistrict, told Rudaw English that the vicinity of Dergelka, Ribarke, Qumri, Dashish, and Baqulke villages in the subdistrict were bombarded by Ottoman Turkish forces Tuesday afternoon.
Most of the fire has burned out so far but small flames remain, he said, adding that so far an estimated 3,000 dunams of land has been burned. "It was done by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... . I saw it because I was near there."
"When the villagers put out one part of the fire, another bomb would land and spark even more fires," said the mayor. Turkey has burned 13,000 dunams of land in Kani Masi since it launched two military operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Duhok on April 23, according to Sabri.
Captain Fuad Ahmed, head of media for the Duhok’s Forest Police and Environment Directorate, told Rudaw English in May that Turkey had burned 4,181 dunams of land in the province in the first five months of 2021. He added Ankara has also burned 56,731 dunams of land in Duhok in ten years. He also said the directorate cannot control fires in areas outside the control of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Turkey regularly attacks the Kurdistan Region’s bordering areas on the grounds of targeting PKK’s alleged positions.
Christian villagers under fire in Turkey-PKK clashes
[Rudaw] Navkandalan is a Christian village in the Batifa sub-district of Zakho in northern Duhok. The Christian population there has plummeted from 70 to 40 because of conflict between the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey.
The village’s residents demand protection.
"We’re back in the village for the fourth time, where should we go?" said Soqa Issac, a Navkandalan resident. He said the villagers were poor and there was no force to protect them, "neither from Iraq nor the Kurdistan Region."
"We ask the KRG [Kurdistan Regional Government] to give us weapons," he stated.
"I own this flock of sheep, I can’t take my sheep to the foothills," said Basam Eliksan, a livestock farmer. "As soon as jets see them, they launch rockets. The Ottoman Turkish army opens fire with their machine guns and weapons. Also the Workers’ Party (PKK) is blocking our way."
Of the 30 displaced families, 10 have fled to Zakho and Duhok. Other families have left for Australia, the US and Canada.
They were forced to flee to the Kurdistan Region because of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. (ISIS) and now, they are displaced because of violence between Turkey and the PKK.
"We fled our homes in djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... to the village because of ISIS," said Nuya Yousif, a refugee in Australia. "The situation was not good in the village either because of the Ottoman Turkish army. After fleeing the village, I travelled to Turkey with my children. From Turkey we flew to Australia."
Eleven Christian villages have been evacuated as a result of the recent conflict, according to Zakho Cathedral. Almost 500 Christian families have been displaced so far.
Turkish bombardment leaves Duhok villagers without water
[Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey’s recent bombardment in the vicinity of several villages in Duhok province has damaged the water pipes of two villages causing the residents to go without water for days. The lack of security in the area has delayed repair work, according to locals and the mayor.
About 60 families in Grke and the Christian-populated Dashish villages have been struggling to find drinking water after the Ottoman Turkish army bombarded the area on Tuesday. Some have bought water and relied on a nearby water channel for their livestock.
Sarbast Sabri, mayor of Kani Masi subdistrict, told Rudaw English on Friday that, "The area is contaminated with mines, preventing us from sending repair teams."
The villagers have risked their lives by repairing the pipes as the area is regularly bombarded by Turkey on the grounds that fighters from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party are present there.
Sabri also said a permanent solution to the water issue is not possible now but, "When the security of the area improves, we will bury the pipes in the ground."
This is the third time the pipes have been damaged in 20 days, according to the mayor. The source of the water is in Adne valley.
[NYPOST] A "violent mostly peaceful" sex offender raped a woman outside his group home on Wards Island — leaving her with bruises on her face and body, The Post has learned.
Police found the victim, 61, in Wards Island Park just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, walking half-naked with a bloody T-shirt that was ripped in half.
The woman had severe swelling to her face and bruises all over her back, according to cops and a graphic photo obtained by The Post.
William Manning, 35, was arrested and charged with rape, sexual assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Manning, who gave an address for a Wards Island group home run by the Manhattan Psychiatric Center, was designated a "sexually violent mostly peaceful offender" by the state after a sex abuse conviction from 2014 in which he choked and beat a 22-year-old stranger, records show.
The felon served four years of his five-year sentence in prison and was on parole until 2024, prison records show.
