400 jobs lost as SC company announces consolidation of 4 manufacturing plants
[TheState] Fujifilm Manufacturing U.S.A. Inc. announced it will lay off 400 South Carolina employees as it plans to consolidate four Greenwood manufacturing plants.

The consolidation plans will relocate manufacturing to other facilities and third parties and is expected to take place by September 2022, the company said in a news release Thursday. The Greenwood employees learned the news Thursday morning, the company said.

"Market economic trends and a declining demand for many of the products manufactured in Greenwood challenged us to focus on how we adapt our efforts to continue to build a global, sustainable approach for Fujifilm," President Todd Croker said in a press release.

The market economic trends and declining demand are reflected in Fujifilm’s financial results. In the company’s most recent fiscal year, revenue and income were down 5.3% and 11.3% respectively from the previous year, according to the company’s FY2020 consolidated financial statements.

Fujifilm, a Japanese corporation, has operated in Greenwood since 1988, with a 500-acre campus that produces QuickSnap recyclable cameras, inkjet photographic paper, color photographic paper and digital printing plates, according to the company’s website. The company says it has invested some $1.8 billion in its Greenwood operations over the past three decades.

Boy Scouts Of America Reaches Pivotal Agreement With Victims [Fox News]
[FoxNews] The Boy Scouts of America have reached an agreement with attorneys representing some 60,000 victims of child sex abuse in what could prove to be a pivotal moment in the organization’s bankruptcy case.

Attorneys for the BSA filed court papers late Thursday outlining a restructuring support agreement, or RSA, with attorneys representing abuse victims. The agreement includes both the official tort claimants committee, which is charged with acting as a fiduciary in the bankruptcy case for all abuse victims, as well as a separate plaintiffs group called the Coalition of Abused Scouts for Justice. It also includes attorneys representing local Boy Scouts councils and lawyers appointed to represent victims who might file future claims.

The Boy Scouts of America, based in Irving, Texas, sought bankruptcy protection in February 2020, moving to halt hundreds of lawsuits and create a compensation fund for men who were molested as youngsters decades ago by scoutmasters or other leaders.

But BSA attorneys have been unable to get attorneys for victims, the BSA’s local councils and sponsoring organizations, and insurers to agree on a global resolution that would compensate abuse victims while allowing the Boy Scouts of America to continue operating.

The Hartford agreed to pay $650 million into the victims' trust in exchange for being released from any further obligations under policies dating to 1971. The agreement allowed The Hartford to pay a lesser amount if the BSA or the settlement trust reaches an agreement with another major BSA insurer, Century Insurance Group, and Century’s settlement amount is less than two times The Hartford’s, or $1.3 billion.

The Hartford settlement was roundly criticized by attorneys for abuse victims, who estimate the insurer’s liability exposure at several billion dollars. They made it clear that victims would not support any plan that includes the Hartford settlement.

The Boy Scouts have said that between $2.4 billion and $7.1 billion, including insurance rights, might be available for abuse victims. Attorneys for the tort claimants committee, or TCC, have estimated the value of some 82,500 sexual abuse claims at about $103 billion.

Texas Sheriffs Sue Biden Administration For Preventing The Arrest Or Deportation Of Criminal Illegal Aliens
[TheBlaze] Texas sheriffs and other law enforcement groups filed a lawsuit Thursday against the Biden administration for preventing the arrest or deportation of criminal illegal aliens.

Five counties, five sheriff's departments, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees with a national law enforcement organization signed onto the lawsuit filed with the federal court of the Southern District of Texas.

Former Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach is the lead attorney for the plaintiffs.

"The ICE officers involved in this case are absolutely astounded at what their superiors are asking them to do: Releasing people charged with rape of a child, releasing people charged with dealing drugs and resisting arrest," Kobach said to the Washington Examiner.

"These are really serious criminals, and ICE is being ordered by the political leadership of the Biden administration to turn them loose," he added.

The lawsuit says that a change in policy by President Joe Biden in relation to the detainment of illegal aliens means that many dangerous criminals are being released in the U.S.

In one case, ICE refused to take custody of a man who had been deported four times and was convicted of domestic violence, evading arrest, and multiple counts of driving under the influence. Local law enforcement was forced to release him.

"Congress has mandated that the executive branch must detain and remove certain illegal aliens, but the Biden Administration is ignoring the law," said Kobach.

"The administration's actions have forced ICE to stand down and have almost brought deportations to a halt," he added. "That has fueled the crisis at the border, encouraging more illegal immigration. It has also created an unbearable burden for local law enforcement in Texas."

Critics of Biden's lax immigration policies have pointed to a worsening crisis at the border as evidence of their inefficacy. On the other hand, illegal alien advocates have excoriated the Biden administration for not doing enough to end deportations.

Biden's immigration plan includes a "roadmap to citizenship" for the millions of illegal aliens already in the United States.

#3  there are still Chicago cops doing what they can to stem the violent crime that plagues so many of the city’s neighborhoods.

The drop in law enforcement can be seen in the arrest rates for murder in Chicago. during the 90's, the arrest rate for murder was 30%. This was a low rate, but justified because the chief suspect in each case would themselves be shot before the police could arrest them.

Now the arrest rate in Chicago is less than 10%, and it is obvious that the police are no longer a deterant to criminal activity.

American sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson fails drug test, could miss Olympics
[Gleaner] American sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson looks set to miss the Olympic Games after her US Olympic Trials performance was disqualified because she tested positive for a prohibited substance.

News of the infringement arrives four weeks before the start of the athletics competition at the July 23 to August 8 showpiece in Tokyo.

Richardson could serve a one to three-month suspension for the adverse analytical finding.

According to sources who asked for anonymity, traces of the substance were found in the 21-year-old's sample from a recent drug test.

The test was carried out at the US Olympic Trials.

Several calls, emails and text messages to Richardson's agent, Renaldo Nehemiah, went unanswered.
Renaldo Nehemiah? I remember that guy
Since January 1, 2021, the drug has been classified as a 'Substance of Abuse' by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and currently carries a maximum four-year ban.

However, if an athlete can prove that the drug was used out of competition and that there was no sports performance benefit, the ban will be reduced to a period of three months with no need to further examine the degree of fault.

WADA also stipulates that the ban can be reduced by a further month if the athlete is willing to undertake an approved treatment programme in collaboration with his/her national anti-doping body.

If the drug is taken in competition but the athlete can prove that the use was unrelated to performance, a two-year ban will be handed out as the infringement will be considered non-intentional.

Richardson was expected to challenge for the 100m gold medal at the Games, after posting 10.72 seconds in April - one of five legal sub-11 seconds clocking from the American this season.

She won the 100m at the US Olympic Trials on June 19 in a time of 10.86 (wind: -1.0m/s). This performance has been provisionally disqualified.

It is understood that fourth-placed finisher in the 100m at the USA Olympic Trials, Jenna Prandini will replace Richardson in the event at the Olympics, while fifth-placed finisher Gabby Thomas has also been entered.

Richardson's win at the US Trials and her strong personality have drawn the admiration of several US celebrities such as former First Lady, Michelle Obama and actress Viola Davis.

The last message on Richardson's official Twitter account posted just after midday late Thursday evening was "I am human.

Germany, US hail global minimum corporate tax deal
It seems to me this is one of those treaty thingies that the Senate must vote to agree to. What odds Senator Mitch McConnell will agree?
[DW] More than 130 countries have signed up to an accord brokered by the OECD. But Ireland and eight other countries refused to back the agreement.

Germany on Thursday hailed a global tax deal to ensure major corporations end up paying a fair amount in taxes as "a colossal step" towards "greater tax justice."

More than 130 countries signed up to a minimum corporate tax of 15%, which the Gay Paree-based OECD said could bring in some €125 billion ($150 billion) in extra revenues each year globally.

"The agreement reached on global effective minimum taxation is a colossal step towards greater tax justice," German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz said. "The race to the bottom in competition is over."

He added that "in future, large corporations will pay their fair share in financing our common welfare."

US WELCOMES OECD DEAL
US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Sleazy Dem mschine politician, paterfamilias of the Biden Crime Family...
also welcomed the deal.

"With a global minimum tax in place, multinational corporations will no longer be able to pit countries against one another in a bid to push tax rates down," he said a statement.

"They will no longer be able to avoid paying their fair share by hiding profits generated in the United States, or any other country, in lower-tax jurisdictions."

The agreed 15% rate would apply to companies with a turnover above a €750 million threshold.

Only the shipping industry is exempted as for more than a century those firms have only been taxed in their jurisdiction of residence.

The nations who backed the accord represent more than 90% of global GDP, but some governments refused to sign up.

IRELAND REBUFFS GLOBAL TAX ACCORD
Ireland declined to back a global effective tax rate of 15%. It has managed to lure several tech giants, such as Apple and Facebook, to the country with a lower rate of 12%.

Irish Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe, who led negotiations on Dublin's behalf, said the government "was not in a position to join the consensus on the agreement and specifically a global minimum effective tax rate of at least 15%."

"I have expressed Ireland's reservation but remain committed to the process and aim to find an outcome that Ireland can yet support," he added.

TAX HAVEN JERSEY: OFFSHORING IN EUROPE
Among the nine countries that refused to sign up are Hungary, Estonia and South Korea.

The United Kingdom, which currently holds the G7 presidency, has been calling for tougher rules for multinationals to stop them shifting profits abroad.

British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak said the accord "marks a further step in our mission to reform global tax."

Technical details are to be agreed upon by October so that the new rules can be implemented by 2023, a statement from the OECD said.

IDF: Soldier stabbed in West Bank, gun snatched; suspect arrested
[IsraelTimes] An Israeli soldier was stabbed and moderately injured in the Jordan Valley on Thursday, the military said.

The suspect in the attack in the West Bank approached the soldier and attempted to steal her gun, the Israel Defense Forces said. The servicewoman fought back against the assailant and was stabbed in the back during the altercation, the military said.

The suspect then snatched the gun and fled, the army said, adding that her assailant was later apprehended and the weapon was retrieved.

The Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem said the 21-year-old soldier was in moderate condition with a stab wound to her upper body. Her condition is stable and she is fully conscious, the hospital said.

The Grand Turk
US places Turkey on list of nations using child soldiers
[Rudaw] For the first time, a NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
ally has been included on a list of countries using child soldiers by the United States, according to a newly released report on Thursday.

In its 2021 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report, the US State Department noted that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
offered assistance in Syria to the Sultan Murad division, a Syrian militia group backed by Ankara, which Washington has accused of using child soldiers.
...more precisely, one of the largest of Turkey’s Syrian Turkmen paramilitary groups.
Every country in this report is placed on one of four tiers, as mandated by the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA). This placement is based not on the extent of a country's problem, but on the extent of government efforts to eliminate human trafficking.

Unless a presidential waiver is granted, states placed on this list are restricted from receiving certain types of security assistance and commercial licensing of military equipment.

Despite the Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than there are in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really most important...
’s offer to get involved in Afghanistan, it is unclear if placing Turkey on this list would impact its negotiations to run Kabul's airport once the US withdraws.

Relations between Washington and Ankara have been thorny in recent years, caused in part by America’s recognition of the Armenian genocide on April 24, US support for Syrian Kurds, and Turkey’s purchase of Russia’s S-400 defense system.

Erdogan said he had a "fruitful and sincere" meeting with US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. You're a lyin' dog-faced pony soldier...
on the sidelines of the NATO leaders summit in Brussels in June.

"We believe there is no problem that cannot be resolved in Turkey-US relations," he said in a presser after his first face-to-face meeting with Biden since his election.

Ottoman Turkish forces have carried out three military operations in Syria against Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Kurdish-held areas of Syria, and have deployed armed Syrian fighters alongside their own personnel.

Africa Horn
US contemplates sending Special Forces to Somalia
[Garowe] The United States could be sending a contingent of Special Forces to Somalia, it has emerged, over eight months after the Department of Defense repositioned over 700 soldiers from the Horn of Africa nation which has been struggling with instability.

Former President Donald Trump
...The man who was so stupid he beat fourteen professional politicians, a former tech CEO, and a brain surgeon for the Republican nomination in 2016, then beat The Smartest Woman in the World in the general election...
repositioned most of the US troops to Kenya and Djibouti as part of his long-term plan of "cost-cutting" but he failed to clinch his seat, losing to Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect hacked up by the World's Greatest Deliberative Body....
, a Democrat. The US has been integral in pushing for Somalia's stability.

With reports on the planned deployment of the US troops to Somalia, US Africa Command boss Gen. Stephen Townsend did not directly confirm the reports but pledged to continue helping the Horn on Africa nation in fighting violent mostly peaceful extremism.

"There's really no denying our fairly sudden repositioning out of Somalia earlier this year has introduced new layers of risk and complexity to our mission there," Townsend said perhaps in the strongest hint that the soldiers will come back. "What we're trying to manage that risk and complexity."
...as opposed to figuring out how to win the war, then winning it?
The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reported that Biden has suggested to the Department of Defense to redeploy American troops to Somalia to help in the al-Shabaab
...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all ofwhich have enough problems without them...
war, but the request is yet to be approved. The American troops were responsible for training and equipping of Danab Special Forces.

Already, the US has deployed Special Forces to northeastern Kenya where they will work closely with the Kenya Defense Forces [KDF] in degrading the al-Shabaab threat. The troops started reporting as early as last week according to military sources in Kenya.

According to Townsend, al-Shabaab is "the world's largest, best-financed, most kinetically active arm of al-Qaeda". "We see threats there to African stability. We see threats in Somalia to regional stability. We even see potential threats there to the US homeland."

Al-Shabaab controls large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia but its capability has been significantly reduced due to military operations in the country. The group targets people believed or accused of being US spies in the country.

"We've given our recommendations to our civilian leaders. And we're waiting on them to make their judgments on those recommendations," Townsend said. "al-Shabaab still enjoys a lot of freedom of action on the territory. You can really feel the atmosphere of the insecurity there."

The federal government of Somalia has been asking for help from the US in the al-Shabaab war, which has taken almost a decade. The holy warriors collect taxes from locals and they are hell-bent to dethrone the fragile UN-backed Somalia administration.

The European Court of Human Rights on Thursday dismissed a case brought by the widow and daughter of Yasser Arafat,
..formally Mohammed Yasser Abdel Rahman Abdel Raouf Arafat al-Qudwa al-Husseini (1929-2004). Born and educated in Cairo, in a French hospital. The flamboyant and brutal USSR-trained terrorist failed to destroy Israel in the service of Arab transnational socialism under the guise of Palestinian national liberation, though he was lauded internationally for his efforts. After founding Fatah sometime in the 1950s, Arafat was chairman of the PLO from 1968 until he died, probably of AIDS from unusual interactions with his personal guards, though his people claimed Israel had poisoned him. Whether the child of the wife he took near the end of his life was also his has never been tested, nor the rumour that she inherited his ill-gotten millions, and nobody seems to know what happened to his red binder...
who have claimed the iconic Paleostinian leader's death was the result of poisoning.

Arafat died at the Percy military hospital near Gay Paree aged 75 in November 2004 after developing stomach pains while at his headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Many Paleostinians accuse Israel of poisoning Arafat, a charge flatly denied by the occupation state.

But in 2012 his widow, Suha El Kodwa Arafat, said traces of the radioactive isotope polonium 210 had been found on his clothes, prompting a French lawsuit alleging his murder.

After a series of analyses and witness interviews, a court in Nanterre, west of Gay Paree, dismissed the case, a ruling upheld on appeal.

Lawyers for Arafat's widow said the investigation had been "fundamentally biased" and accused the judges of closing the probe too quickly.

Arafat's wife and daughter turned to the European court in 2017, saying they had been refused their right to a fair hearing, in particular a refusal of their request for an additional expert report on his death.

In a unanimous decision, three judges said that after reviewing the case, "at all stages of the proceedings the applicants, assisted by their lawyers, had been able to exercise their rights effectively".

"Judges did not appear to have reached arbitrary conclusions based on the facts before them and their interpretation of the evidence in the file or the applicable law had not been unreasonable," they added.

Poppy Cultivation Up 45 Percent in Afghanistan: Ministry
[ToloNews] The deputy minister of counter-narcotics on Thursday said that poppy cultivation and drug smuggling has increased by 45 percent in Afghanistan this year compared to the same period last year.

Authorities in Afghanistan said that poppy is currently cultivated on over 200,000 hectares of land in different regions of the country and that Afghanistan still produces 80 percent of the world's opium.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hanging, Butch continued with his last words, trying not to repeat himself too often......
the deputy ministry of interior on Thursday burned 67 metric tons of drugs in Kabul.

"We burned some heroin, morphine, poppy, hashish and alcohol that is used in the production of heroin," said Wahidullah Kalimzai, deputy minister of counter narcotics.

"The structure of the commando forces must be expanded so that we are able to prevent smuggling by air and ground monitoring," said Hashem Alokozai, a senator.

There are thousands of drug addicts currently on the streets.

The Afghan Ministry of Public Health said that currently there are around 3.5 million addicts in Afghanistan.

"The difference in the numbers between 2009 and 2016—900,000 in 2009 and 3.5 million now--indicates a rising trend," said Zahir Sultani, the head of Ibn-e-Sina hospital.

Over the past two decades, the US allocated $8 billion to counter the drug problem in Afghanistan.

Kamala Harris Is The Case Against Affirmative Action
[THEFEDERALIST] If there was ever a case against affirmative action, it would be the sitting vice president.

All of the things opponents of race quotas say — that they inspire mediocrity, lead to lower standards, and set unqualified people up for failure — are precisely what we’re seeing in the shockingly poor job performance of Kámala Harris
Former Oakland mayor Willie Brown's former mistress, then a senatrix from California, and then a former 2020 Dem presidential hopeful. She dropped out because she was polling in negative numbers because of racism. Her father is a Marxist professor emeritus at Stanford and her mother is an Indian of the Hindoo tribe. She is reputedly the proud descendant of a long line of women. Joe Biden picked her for her skin tone, feeling she could also bring in the Native American, women's and bimbo votes. She's displaying her level of competence in her handling of the Biden Border Surge

#10  Example for positive outcome of affirmative action?

In all seriousness, the attraction of affirmative action when it was first introduced was the thought that many deserving by acts with no longer be held back.

In practical terms, this meant that America would jumpstart the creation of a black professional class that would have full access to the institutions and power centers of American society. For about 10 or maybe at most 20% of black American society, this wish was fulfilled.

Hence the Dr. Phil Huxtable / Cosby Show phenom. In The best American tradition, motivated I achieving and deserving blacks sees the opportunity, entered the professions, and realized the American Dream.

How many? Probably as many as 30% of the black US population, maybe only 20%, but in any case, in absolute numbers least 5 million black American households and at least 10 million black Americans took a vantage of this opportunity and did what we all hoped they would do.

Five million households is an enormous number. That's like a small country. That's success.

BUT....

... an equal number of black Americans -- probably twice as many - slid further and further into dysfunction, poverty, violence, and despair. You all know that story. It's a horror story. Unbelievable really, for any advanced civilization.

Worst of all, the idea of merit as a criterion for advancement was degraded. And entire generation of poor blacks became professional victims. With all the attendant dysfunctional behaviors the professional victims are wont to display.

I'll leave it up to you as to whether the experiment was, on balance, a success.

Ronald Reagan: A Time For Choosing (27 Oct 1964) video
[Reagan Library] "The Speech" is what Ronald Reagan called it. Today we call it, "A Time for Choosing," and it was a pivotal turning point in Ronald Reagan's life.

Ronald Reagan began a long side-career of public speaking as his acting career closed out. He traveled across the country meeting Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, Chambers of Commerce and any other civic-minded local groups. This continued and intensified during his service as the General Electric spokesperson while hosting their sponsored television series. "The Speech" was delivered in various forms and to different audiences as each word was honed, measured and memorized.

During the 1964 Presidential campaign, Republican party officials in California, who knew Reagan's powerful message and delivery, asked him to film a speech on behalf of the Republican candidate, Barry Goldwater. The speech was aired on October 27, 1964 and it was electrifying. Donations to the Republican party and candidates increased dramatically.

The Republican Party took note and they targeted Reagan as a candidate from that point forward. He agreed in 1966 to run for Governor of California. He won two terms, and eventually won the Presidency.

#1  The impressive thing, aside from the rhetorical quality of The Speech, is how current it remains. All the numbers would have to be increased by several orders of magnitude, and some references changed, but otherwise it's good to go. For example:

"We have so many people who can't see a fat man standing beside a thin one without coming to the conclusion the fat man got that way by taking advantage of the thin one. So they're going to solve all the problems of human misery through government and government planning. Well, now, if government planning and welfare had the answer -- and they've had almost 30 [make that 85 or so] years of it -- shouldn't we expect government to read the score to us once in a while? Shouldn't they be telling us about the decline each year in the number of people needing help? The reduction in the need for public housing?"

Prosecutors allege terrorist intent in vandalism of Amsterdam kosher restaurant
[IsraelTimes] A man who allegedly vandalized a kosher restaurant in Amsterdam last year, smashing a window and ramming an Israeli flag through the hole, acted with terrorist intent, prosecutors alleged Wednesday.

The prosecutors asked a court in Amsterdam to order the man to undergo psychiatric treatment at a secure facility and impose a sentence of 418 days’ imprisonment — the length of time he has been placed in durance vile
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
since his arrest.

The 32-year-old suspect is accused of the vandalism at the HaCarmel restaurant in May last year, the sixth attack targeting the restaurant in recent years.

Prosecutors explained in a statement why they called it a terror attack.

"On the one hand, we are talking of ’only’ a broken window and burned flag. On the other hand, we are dealing with a case that has caused a great deal of commotion, emotions and fear. The suspect’s actions caused great fear in society."

The suspect was convicted two years ago of vandalism at the same restaurant. Prosecutors did not link that attack to terrorism, but say the circumstances are different now.

A bureau that analyzed the suspect concluded that he is "radicalized, holds bad boy ideas and acted based on that ideology," prosecutors said, adding that his actions are based on a pro-Paleostinian sentiment.

The court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on July 14.

, "the pain of ordinary people sounded in almost every question," which means that Russia urgently needs to get out of the liberal market deadlock, says the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, State Duma Deputy Gennady Zyuganov.

"At the current rate, our domestic carrots are already more expensive than bananas from Ecuador, and utility rates exceed any reasonable limits," the communist noted.

Regnum.ru reported the day before, commenting on how cheap bananas are.

In addition, Zyuganov continued, it is impossible, as it is done now, to lower all problems from the federal level to the regional one. The same applies to the acute problem of wildly rising prices for almost everything.

"I believe that the ruling party, United Russia, bears full responsibility for the deepening crisis," added Zyuganov.

China Has Never Regarded US as Friend in Past 70 Years: Retired CCP Professor
[ET] The Chinese Communist Party regards the United States as an enemy and utilizes American’s kindness to grab resources and develop itself, according to a veteran ideology professor for the party’s Central Party School.

"The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) teaches the people to hate the United States ... has consistently, from 1949 to this day, promoted anti-American sentiment," CCP insider and retired professor Cai Xia wrote in an article published by the Hoover Institution on June 29 (pdf). "The words I have been most familiar with since kindergarten and primary school are phrases such as ’stop the American imperialist wolves,’" she said of her experience growing up in communist China.

Cai then gave an example of the result of the CCP’s anti-American education. "Once, I bought a toy pistol and gave it to a six-year-old boy. The boy played with it and blurted out: ’Kill the Yankees.’"

Perceiving the United States as its enemy, the CCP regime uses any method it can to benefit from America.

Believing "there can never be too much deception in war," Cai wrote, "the CCP took advantage of opportunities for economic and cultural exchanges to sneakily acquire economic, commercial, technological, political, and military intelligence. In particular, the theft of high-tech research results is not only carried out in foreign companies within China but also by Chinese students and scholars who go abroad and may be required to ’cooperate’ with certain agencies to filch various information."

However, although Americans have been cheated by the CCP for over 40 years, many U.S. elites "still regard the CCP regime as an authoritarian one," Cai resigned.

Nigeria: We're Problems of Nigeria, Not Religion, Ethnicity - Buhari

[All Africa] President Muhammadu Buhari has said that neither ethnicity nor religion is to blame for the myriad of problems facing the country, "but we ourselves," for inherent injustices.President Buhari in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina came to this conclusion after reflecting on the complexities of the Nigerian condition.

According to the statement, the President spoke while receiving members of the Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo (MBO) Dynamic Support Group, who visited State House, Abuja, to present a compendium of five years achievements of the administration.

President Buhari went into the trajectory of his struggles to get justice at the courts, after disputed results of presidential elections in 2003, 2007, and 2011, submitting that people who ruled against him were of his own ethnic stock and religious persuasion, while those who stood up for him were of other faith and ethnicity.

He said, "Our problem is not ethnicity or religion, it is ourselves.

"After my third appearance in the Supreme Court
, I came out to speak to those who were present then. I told them that from 2003, I'd spent 30 months in court.

"The President of the Court of Appeal, the first port of call for representation by presidential candidates then, was my classmate in secondary school in Katsina. We spent six years in the same class, Justice Umaru Abdullahi.

"My legal head was Chief Mike Ahamba, a Roman Catholic and an Ibo man. When the President of the court decided that we should present our case, my first witness was in the box.

"Ahamba insisted that a letter should be sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to present the register of constituencies in some of the States, to prove that what they announced was falsehood. It was documented.

"When they gave judgment, another Ibo man, the late Justice Nsofor, asked for the reaction from INEC to the letter sent to them. They just dismissed it. He then decided to write a minority judgment. That was after 27 months in court.

"We went to the Supreme Court. Who was Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN)? A Hausa-Fulani
... a peculiarly brutal tribe of Moslem herdsmen infesting Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and probably other places that are light on law and order and heavy on tribal identity...
like me, from Zaria. The members of the panel went in for about 30 minutes, came back to say they were proceeding on break. They went for 3 months. When they came back, it didn't take them 15 minutes, they dismissed us.

"In 2007, who was the CJN? Kutigi. Again, a Moslem from the North. After 8 months or so, he dismissed the case.

"Again in 2011, because I was so persistent, Musdafa, a Fulani man like me, from Jigawa, neighbor to my state, was CJN. He dismissed my case.

"I've taken you round this to prove that our problem is not ethnicity or religion. It is ourselves.

terror group.

The Oslo District Court suspends three of the five years because of the teenager’s young age. He was 16 years and 2 months when arrested in February by Norway’s domestic security agency in the Norwegian capital, Oslo.

"The court has no doubt that the defendant had, despite his young age, made a conscious decision to carry out an act of terror although the plans had not materialized in a concrete plan," Judge Ingvild Boe Hornburg writes in a statement.

In court, the teenager, who has not been identified, admits curiosity made him buy the ingredients to make the poison but claims he had no intention of hurting anyone and that he exaggerated his plans to be tough when chatting online. He also confesses that he donated more than 1,250 kroner ($146) to a website supporting the Islamic State group and that he posted a video on how to upload a propaganda video for the bad boy group.

According to the verdict, he also downloaded material on how to make and handle explosives.

The court rules that juvenile punishment is not applicable in the case and that "there is a risk of recurrence and that imprisonment is required and imperative." The court says that had he been over the age of 18, the sentence could have been up to 11 years.

#2  As I said a few days back, this is all part of the ISI's long game to keep America's guns trained on the taliban in Afghanistan, while sheltering it themselves in Pakistain. It makes the taliban grateful guests and forever open to ISI 'suggestions'.

Yes, taliban and AQ are close, but all sunni organizations are interconnected. You cannot aid an islamic republic and not inadvertently aid islamic terrorism anyway.

It's in Pakistain's best interest to keep American forces in Afghanistan, and aid running every which way out if your treasury. Whether it does this by swinging that heroin carrot before your State Dept fobbits, or by shouting 'wolf!' every few days for the ⭔, all Pakistain wants is America's unending engagement in this dungheap.

CBO sees supercharged recovery as pandemic dissipates, predicts severe inflation in coming months
[WASHINGTONTIMES] The U.S. economy will roar to life for the rest of this year and remain supercharged through 2022, the Congressional Budget Office said Thursday, though the analysts also warned Americans to expect inflation to rise "sharply" for several months.

The unemployment rate will fall to 4.6% at the end of this year and be back to pre-pandemic levels at some point next year, said CBO, delivering a glowing picture on the most politically important yardstick.

Americans who saved up during the pandemic are looking to spend, creating strong demand for goods and services. Inventories aren’t ready to handle that demand right now, thus the spike in inflation. The analysts said supply and demand will even out quickly and inflation pressures will dissipate by the end of the year.

In the meantime, Americans were vaccinated for COVID-19 faster than projected and communities scrapped social distancing policies earlier than anticipated.

CBO said Democrats’ coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
relief package, which President Joe Biden
...... 46th president of the U.S. Joe's wife and daughter weren't killed by a drunk driver. He didn't graduate with three or even two degrees, wasn't in the top half of his law class, and his daddy didn't come home from a hard day's work in the mines and play football with the guys. The NAACP hasn't endorsed him every time he's run.......
signed in March, will pump hundreds of billions of dollars into the economy.

The result will be a fantastic year for the economy, with gross domestic product rising 7.4% in real terms year-to-year in 2021 and still running strong at 3.1% growth in 2022.

The economy will cool quickly in 2023, with GDP growth falling to 1.1% and rising only to 1.2% in 2024 and 2025, the CBO projected.

Analysts said the pattern is normal after a heated recovery but could prove problematic for Mr. Biden and congressional Democrats in 2024 as they face voters starting to feel a slowing economy.

The White House called this year’s GDP number proof that the president’s "economic plan is working."

"The last time the economy grew at this rate was when Ronald Reagan told us it was ’Morning in America’ in 1984," the White House gloated in a blurb.

Rep. John A. Yarmuth, Kentucky Democrat and chairman of the House Budget Committee, said the economic growth is a reason to double down and pass another round of government spending on infrastructure, social welfare and action against climate change.

Even with the recovery, though, the federal government will end this year deeply in the red, the CBO said Thursday. It projected a near-record $3 trillion deficit, just shy of last year’s record $3.1 trillion.

In February, the CBO pegged the figure at just $2.2 trillion. Most of the increase is a result of the coronavirus relief package.

Kenya: Reverend Natasha Refutes Sex Orgy Claims
[All Africa] Flashy city preacher, Reverend Lucy Natasha, has dismissed claims she organized a sex orgy involving a Nigerian preacher with one of her congregants. The Prophetic Latter Glory Ministry International City preacher on Wednesday was forced to issue a statement distancing herself and the church from allegations she was also promoting cultism.

This comes after a Facebook user identified as Martha Mwihaki Hinga on Tuesday alleged Natasha invited her for dinner together with a Nigerian guest speaker, her mother, brother, and her assistance with a hidden agenda.

"As a ministry which is very active in preaching through various social media platforms, we seek to unequivocally dissociate ourselves with a malicious story tarnishing the reputation of our leader Rev Natasha and the ministry we are doing," part of the statement read.

FSB prevented a terrorist attack in the Stavropol Territory
Service personnel and civilians were not injured during the operation.

During the inspection of the scene and searches in the places of residence of the defendants, they found automatic weapons and ammunition, an F-1 grenade, and religious extremist literature.

The attackers planned a simultaneous attack in the two indicated regions, in crowded places with the use of cold weapons and firearms.
It is noted that they were going to act at the direction of the leaders of the group.

Russian FSB also arrested seven individuals said to be part of a Ukrainian ultranationalist group.

The special forces of the FSB and the Investigative Committee detained on the territory of the Belgorod region (bordering Ukraine) seven supporters of Ukrainian nationalists and members of the Ukrainian Nazi organization

12:58, Belgorod, According to the Investigative Committee, 7 followers of this Ukrainian Nazi and extremist organization were detained, including the leader of the Belgorod cell.

"The arrest of the suspects took place with the forceful support of the special forces of the Rosgvardia Directorate in the Belgorod Region and the FSB of Russia in the Belgorod Region. At present, searches have been carried out in the homes of members of the extremist community, and items of evidentiary value have been seized. The suspects were interrogated in the indicated status and detained in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code, they were charged with committing serious crimes.

At the request of the investigators, the leader of the extremist community was taken into custody as a preventive measure. Questions about the measure of restraint to other defendants are being considered by the court, ”the press service of the UK reports .

According to the DSP of the FSB , the detainees are supporters of the Ukrainian neo-Nazi organization M.K.U., who formed its structural unit in the region, involved in the propaganda of the ideology of neo-Nazism and mass murders, provoking ethnic conflicts, committing violent crimes, and planning armed attacks on law enforcement officers and citizens.

"Materials of an extremist nature, edged weapons, means of communication with the surviving correspondence on the preparation of violent actions were seized from the addresses of the detainees, and a laboratory for the cultivation of drug-containing plants was found," the FSB reports.

Note that this is far from the first detention of Russian followers of the Ukrainian Nazi organization. This organization, which was displayed earlier in the materials on the same detentions in other regions of the Russian Federation, is coordinated from the territory of Ukraine.

Government Corruption
Fix the NYC Board of Elections or face endless mayhem
[NYPOST] Here’s the silver lining in the latest grand screwup by the city’s Board of Elections: By inadvertently including 135,000 test ballots in Tuesday’s preliminary report on results of the June 22 Democratic primary, the BOE all but ensured it won’t make that same mistake in a few weeks when it releases the final tally, supposedly by July 12.

But it could still botch something else.

Yes, this was the first citywide tally under the city’s new ranked-choice voting system, with software the BOE is plainly still getting a handle on. But that prompts the question: Why didn’t anyone look carefully at the numbers and spot check them against the raw election night totals and so discover the glaring discrepancies?

Heck, why even offer a public not-at-all-final tally before you’ve actually made sure you’ve ironed out every glitch? Why not do the responsible thing and wait until all the votes are tallied?

Under state law, the BOE is run by, and for, political hacks — that’s why. Heck, some of the politicians now pointing fingers over this mess surely have patronage hires working somewhere at the BOE.

The board’s current executive director, Michael Ryan, is generally thought a competent fellow, but he’s out on medical leave. That left his deputy, Dawn Sandow, in charge; at least one fellow Republican official calls her a "disaster" and unqualified to run a large agency.

The fiasco has plenty of people calling for major BOE reforms, but most changes require action by the Legislature (which would likely impact all Boards of Election across the state, upsetting lots of patronage applecarts) or even amendments to the state Constitution.

A faster, city-only fix requires action only by the 10 chairs of the county Democratic and Republican parties: They need only agree to require proven competence of their appointees, who can then clean house among the lower ranks.

City and state politicians also ought to be more cautious about blithely rewriting election rules, since the BOE pretty routinely runs into some disaster whenever it’s required to handle anything new.

But beware calls to make it a "nonpartisan" agency: With Democrats so dominant in the city and statewide these days, that could easily fuel even more public distrust than the regular errors under the current setup.

For now, the best move is simply to insist the political bosses put a premium on competence for the future and cross your fingers that the board ruthlessly checks its own work before releasing the final certified tallies later this month.

Judge Rules To Unseal Docs From Epstein Pal Ghislaine Maxwell; Docs Demanded Related To Any Clinton Funding
[Daily Wire] A New York federal judge ruled on Thursday to unseal court documents from Ghislaine Maxwell, an accused child sex trafficker who was the associate of sex predator Jeffrey Want Some Candy, Little Girl? Epstein
...A high class pimp financier who was alleged to maintain a stable of underage whores sex slaves who were paid big bucks to entertain the rich and/or famous. He is a registered sex offender and made att least 17 out-of-court settlements with former members of his stable, with some cases still ongoing. 2011 court docs reveal that 21 email addresses and phone numbers for Bill Clinton and an aide were found in Epstein's electronic black book, and that Clinton frequently flew with Epstein on his private plane between 2002 to 2005. But really, they were probably just discussing finance or politix or something. While getting massaged. Then things got serious, Jeff was tossed in the slammer in New York and then he killed himself. Really. That's what happened...
Judge Loretta Preska said that the release of the documents would not have an impact on Maxwell’s ability to have a fair trial.

"It is not the job of the Court to police press coverage," Preska said. "Tabloid fodder doesn’t diminish the importance of materials that could reasonably affect the court’s decision on a motion."

"The judge also ruled that documents relating to a request from [Virginia Roberts] Giuffre for email accounts that Maxwell allegedly kept secret from the court should also be made public," the Daily Mail reported. "The documents are part of a tranche of material gradually being released by Judge Preska from the defamation case [Virginia Roberts Giuffre] filed against Maxwell in 2016 for calling her a liar."

Giuffre’s legal team demanded the documents be turned over on a wide range of issues, including documents related to any funding that Maxwell may have received from Clinton organizations.

Newspaper Colludes With Dems to Doxx, Run Hit Piece Against Opponent of Critical Race Theory
There are few things more exciting to local news journalists than when their coverage area serves as a topic of national discussion. Whether it’s positive or negative, local newspapers and news channels often jump at the opportunity to use their personal connections to participate in the story. It’s natural.

But when the topic of discussion is one that is ideologically opposed to the newsroom in general — and in much of America, that newsroom ideology is often leftist — activist journalists tend to "defend their territory" by being adamantly opposed to the point of contention. In the case of The News Tribune, a local Tacoma-area newspaper, they felt the need to collude with local Democrats to attack conservative journalist Christopher Rufo.

Their hit piece attacking Rufo and defending Critical Race Theory is rife with inaccuracies. First and foremost, the very notion the CRT "is a legal doctrine, encountered mostly at the graduate level" is ludicrous prima facie. One does not need to be a top-notch investigative journalist to know that CRT is spreading across the country and being taught in grade schools on up. It takes the highest degrees of gaslighting skill to claim anything otherwise with a straight face.

As for their perspectives on Rufo being the "architect of the campaign" attacking Critical Race Theory, they’re doing what a few leftist publications have done. They want to isolate and attack a singular messenger rather than address the message itself. Rufo is a great journalist and has been on top of this from the beginning, but to call him the architect of the campaign to suppress the Neo-Marxist ideologies taught through Critical Race Theory would be like calling CNN
...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for...
’s Jake Tapper the architect of the Russian-collusion story. Yes, both have been loud about their particular pet projects but neither can be considered the architect.

The article goes on to "doxx" Rufo as a local Gig Harbor citizen. This is dangerous, especially when we consider the radical progressive activity in the area that has caused physical harm to conservative journalists in the past. But they didn’t just "doxx" him. They pulled in local Democrats to demonize him. From the article:

"A white guy working out of a home studio in Gig Harbor is behind all the scripted talking points and drama you hear about CRT," wrote Justin Camarata, a former Tacoma city council member and chair of the 27th District Democrats, on his Twitter feed.

"It was certainly surprising," said Jennifer Butler, a Peninsula School Board candidate. "It was a very fascinating article, and when I got to the part where it said Gig Harbor, I went, ’Whoa, well there you go. ... These conversations are happening all over the country."

The twin stories painted Rufo, who moved to Gig Harbor from Seattle last year, as a conservative criminal mastermind who has nearly single-handedly convinced millions of alarmed Americans — including former President Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
— that children are being taught their country is irredeemably evil and racist, and that white people should feel guilt and shame about their race.

This is worse than bad activist journalism or dangerous doxxing. This is a series of lies used to perpetuate a blatantly false narrative while building a bogeyman to attack along the way. The News Tribune should retract this harmful story immediately.

Baghlan: ANDSF Pushes Back Taliban in 2 Areas of Pul-e-Khumri
[ToloNews] Security forces have made advances with clearing operations in Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province, on Wednesday night, Afghan commandos said on Thursday.

The security forces have cleared about 3 km in the Bolakha and Band-e-Mazar areas in Pul-e-Khumri and also retaken five security outposts that had fallen to the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, according to the commandos.

TOLOnews news hound Sharif Amiry, who is in Baghlan, said the Taliban has left some parts of the areas where festivities with the security forces took place.

Several civilians’ houses and shops have been damaged in Bolakha and Band-e-Mazar areas due to ongoing festivities on Wednesday night, Amiry said, adding that the commandos launched the operation at midnight to push back the Taliban.

Before the operation, the Taliban tried to break through the the defenses of the security forces and enter Pul-e-Khumri center from Bolakha and Band-e-Mazar areas, members of the local forces said.

"We have retaken a 3 to 4 km area from the Taliban," said Sediqullah Muradi, a commander of commando forces.

Parwiz Saydkheil, a security force member, said: "Forces have redeployed in those areas that were retaken."

Imam Ali, a commando officer, said that in the past six months he has not visited his home, and he was maimed in his head four months ago.

"I will continue the battle as long as I am alive. I don’t have any fear," he said.

TOLOnews' news hound Amiry said that for the "first time in the past 10 days several parts of the center of Pul-e-Khumri are calm and have not witnessed festivities."

Eight districts in Baghlan have fallen to the Taliban in the fighting over the last three weeks. Security forces have retaken two of the districts: Doshi and Khinjan.

On Sunday, the government reported that 8,000 families were displaced in Baghlan in the last three weeks, leaving many of them stranded on the streets of Pul-e-Khumri while others live in close quarters with dozens per single home.

Despite the drop in weekly claims, the level of continuing claims increased to 3.47 million, up 56,000 from the previous week. However, that data runs a week behind the headline number and likely represents the unexpected upswing in the previous week's count...

Arizona Ballot-Harvesting Ban Is Legal, Supreme Court Rules
[THEEPOCHTIMES] Arizona’s ban on ballot-harvesting and out-of-precinct voting does not violate the federal Voting Rights Act, the Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
ruled 6-3 this morning in a closely watched case with implications for future elections.

The court opinion split neatly along ideological and partisan lines with the 6 conservative justices nominated by Republican presidents voting to uphold the state law and the 3 liberal justices voting to strike it down.

The decision reverses a judgment issued by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and comes the week after the Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft
...knaves, footpads, and adjusters employed by the Biden Crime Family. They leave a trail of havoc everywhere they turn their attention, be it the nation's borders, the Keystone XL Pipeline, or epidemics, sometimes on purpose, most times through sheer arrogant ineptitude. They learnt this stuff in college, you know...
filed a lawsuit against Georgia over the state’s new electoral integrity-promoting law claiming it amounts to so-called voter suppression. The state’s Republican governor, Brian Kemp, said the U.S. Department of Justice’s suit was "legally and constitutionally dead wrong."

Justice Samuel Alito wrote the court’s opinion in Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee (DNC (If you're white you ain't right!)
...Democrat National Committee, where all those off-the-wall talking points we hear as news stories originate...
), court file 19-1257, and Arizona Republican Party v. DNC, court file 19-1258, which was published July 1. Mark Brnovich is the Republican attorney general of Arizona. Oral arguments took place telephonically March 2 after the Supreme Court decided Oct. 2, 2020, to hear the consolidated case.

The reach of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965 was at issue in the case.

The Supreme Court today concluded that Arizona’s out-of-precinct policy and the law known as HB 2023 do not violate Section 2 of the VRA. The court also found that HB 2023 was not enacted with a racially discriminatory purpose.

During this period the government also evacuated 120 districts following offensives by the Taliban.

In the latest development, the Taliban has captured the center of Tagab district in the northern province of Kapisa.

Numbers gathered by TOLOnews show that 638 military personnel and civilians were also killed in Taliban attacks during this period and 1,060 others were maimed.

"The main reason for the collapse of the districts is poor leadership at the leadership level of the security and defense forces," said MP Khan Agha Rezayee.

Based on the figures, although the number of assassinations and explosions decreased during this period, the level of casualties among the security personnel and civilians continued to rise.

The majority of casualties were reported in Baghlan, Faryab, Badakhshan, Ghazni, Takhar, Balkh, Ghor, Herat

"The lines (personnel) of the war changed, people were serving in the provinces as security commanders who weren’t familiar with the war because the government had sent the war commanders home," said MP Ibdallullah Mohammadi.

in reference to a possible worsening of the situation in Afghanistan said that Pakistain will face a difficult time in view of the potential impact of Afghanistan at war. He said that Pakistain has no influence on the Taliban.

During a speech in Pakistain's national assembly, he also criticized past policies that led to Pakistain's joining the US intervention in Afghanistan.

"When we gave so many services, did they (US) praise us or acknowledge our sacrifices? Instead, they called us a hypocrite and blamed us. Instead of appreciating us, Pakistain was bad-mouthed," he said quoted by Dawn news.

He mentioned that had never felt more "insulted" than when Pakistain decided to join the United States's war on terror.

"We decided to become a front line state for the American war on terror. I questioned repeatedly, what did we have to do with the war?" he asked.

Khan said he wanted the nation to remember that period forever and the "idiocy" of the policies at the time.

"Does any country get involved in another's (war) and lose 70,000 lives?" he asked. "What they (US) said, we kept doing. (Former president Pervez) Musharraf said in his book that he took money and sent people to Guantanamo."

The Truth about Excess Deaths
American Institute For Economic Research
...a nearly century-old libertarian think tank appended to the American Investment Services private advisory firm
[via The Washington Gazette] One of the most controversial and heavily debated responses to the pandemic, and one that was and continues to be used by various governments, is Shelter in Place (SIP) orders, commonly referred to as lockdowns. This week saw Australia institute another SIP for the Greater Sydney region in New South Wales. These SIP orders have become familiar in news coverage, and in the logic they use to combat the pandemic. Countless articles and studies lauded these policies as being some of the best ways to prevent deaths from the pandemic.

While familiar in form and logic, evidence about SIP’s long-run effectiveness remains scant. Many of the claims about their efficacy have come from epidemiological models that have largely failed to accurately predict real-world outcomes from the pandemic. In the face of this issue and in an attempt to better understand the long-run effects, measures beyond simply counting cases and deaths directly from Covid have moved to the front of many policy discussions. Increasingly, references to excess deaths have dominated discussions of the pandemic and how to respond to it.

on July 1 for its "unlawful and unconstitutional" requirements regarding the arrest and deportation of illegal aliens. The plaintiffs are seeking an injunction to a Feb. 18 memorandum that they say "commands ICE officers to violate the specific terms of federal immigration law."

"The relief we are seeking is that the court order ICE and the Department of Homeland Security to simply follow the law," lead attorney Kris Kobach said in Galveston after filing the suit at the federal courthouse on July 1. "To follow the specific laws ... that require them to detain and deport certain illegal aliens."

The lawsuit (pdf) alleges that "many extremely dangerous illegal aliens who would have been detained prior to the February 18 Memorandum are now not being detained—against the wishes of the ICE officers seeking to detain them, and in violation of federal statutes requiring their detention and/or removal."

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued interim guidelines on Feb. 18 for handling the arrest, detainment, and deportation of illegal immigrants colonists.

DHS directed ICE officers to focus only on three priority groups of illegal immigrants colonists, including national security threats, such as known or suspected terrorists; those who crossed the border illegally after Nov. 1, 2020; and public safety threats who are convicted of aggravated felonies or gang members.

Qani said hundreds of Taliban’s armed members took part in the attack and 20 of them were killed in last night’s festivities.

"A Taliban’s suicide boom-mobileer was targeted by security forces before reaching its target," the governor said.

The local security officials also said that more than 20 Taliban were killed in the attacks and more than 10 others were maimed.

Local officials have not commented on possible government forces casualties in the attack.

Taliban has not commented on the attack.

On Wednesday, Afghan forces retook the control of Shinwari district in Parwan.

Sources said that security forces have left several districts including Alasai district in Kapisa, Kaldar district in Balkh, Feroz Nakhchir district in Samangan and Gilan district in Ghazni.

But the Ministry of Defense said that reinforcements have been sent to Ghazni province to repel Taliban attacks and also that security forces managed to break the siege of Hesarak district in Nangarhar

Over the past two months, the government has lost control of over 100 districts across the country; however, the Afghan government has said that security forces have retaken control of ten districts in the past few days.

#4  Besoeker: “History Doesn't Repeat Itself, but It Often Rhymes” ~ Mark Twain.

The Taliban are presumably looking at Vietnam and their earlier conquest of Afghanistan as the template for their current offensives. Vietnam is a bad analogy. The Soviets and the Chinese sent huge amounts of equipment and dough to North Vietnam to launch a tank-, artillery- and MiG-supported offensive. Pakistan is a (literally) poor substitute as lead moneybags for the Taliban. Note also that the US had drastically cut equipment and monetary aid to South Vietnam. Whereas Biden has committed $5b a year, the same amount the Afghans have gotten for many years now.

Even the 90's era Taliban victory is an imperfect analogue. Then, the Taliban were backed to the hilt by Pakistan. In comparison, the various mujahideen factions they were up against got bupkis from anyone else, having to rely on the usual protection money and shady undertakings that all had to engage in due to the chaos (banditry, destroyed infrastructure, refugees everywhere) of that era.

As long as Uncle Sam is funding the Afghan government, it's hard to see how it could lose. A guerrilla movement can hold territory for days or even weeks at a time, much as a bank robber can probably take over any financial institution at will and take hostages to keep the gendarmes at bay. But to hold out for years - that takes staying power the Taliban does not have.

My estimate is that if the Taliban continues to mount operations at this tempo, it will overextend itself and implode. This could actually the Taliban's last gasp - the storm before the calm.

#8  The fly in the ointment is the Afghan propensity to change sides. Lots of gov troops with lots of equipment and ammo available for the right price or threat.

They don't change sides for money. They change sides so they end up with the winners. Because money's no good if you end up with the losers - that could mean exile for your tribe, or worse. They're not switching sides for keeps - if the government appears to be winning, they'll stick with it - if the Taliban looks like a winner, they'll switch. This can happen several times in the course of a given period. This isn't a matter of principle - it's a question of who lives and who dies, so tribal heads will be endlessly flexible. Ultimately, they'll side with the strong horse, whatever that horse happens to be.

Europe
Islamists in Germany: Quiet, but dangerous
[DW] A stabbing spree in the German city of Wurzburg has renewed focus on the threat of Islamism, even if the attacker's motive remains unclear.

THE LONE WOLF THREAT
Authorities tied 409 crimes to "religious ideology" in 2020. That marked a 13% increase over the year before. More than 90% of those crimes were linked to Islamists; however, many were non-violent mostly peaceful. The 33 crimes that resulted in death marked a 20% drop over 2019 figures.

The report noted that sophisticated attacks plotted from abroad were "conceivable at any point," but none have actually taken place. Lone-wolf attacks, regardless of motive, are instead the bigger threat and are "meaningful for the goals of terrorist groups."

Single attackers may have no formal ties to any groups or movements, the intelligence report suggested, but may be inspired by them to attack "soft" targets. That was "probably" the case in Dresden last year when two tourists were stabbed in a homophobic attack. One of them died.

Another one-off attack took place in Berlin in 2020. This time it was a car that rammed motorcyclists, leaving six people injured. The suspect's "psychological impairment" may have made an Islamist motivation more appealing, the report said.

Similar attacks in Germany's neighboring countries, such as La Belle France and Austria, have authorities worried about copycat crimes here.

THE ONGOING ISLAMIST THREAT
Nearly 700 people are classified as potential perpetrators and are under surveillance in Germany, according to a government statement from earlier this year. Most of them are suspected of having the potential to carry out crimes due to their religious fervor, largely Islamist in nature.

In 2020 the government said it is aware of 240 Islamists who are on the lam and could potentially pose a threat.

Some 135 of these people were reported to have German citizenship, while a third of them have other nationalities — 41 Syrians, 17 Russians, seven Iraqis, seven Turks and people from around 20 other countries. The nationality of seven Islamists was termed "unclear," while three had been registered stateless.

German domestic intelligence authorities have also expressed concern about radicalization abroad that comes back home. About 1,100 Islamists are reported to have gone to Iraq and Syria since 2012. One-third of them have returned to Germany, including some who have then been sentenced to prison for various crimes.

Both their incarceration and release pose a "particular challenge" to Germany's security and justice apparatus, the report said.

Fifth Column
Video of King County Council candidate threatening to blow up school bus in 2010
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] Footage exclusively obtained by The Post Millennial shows progressive candidate for King County Council Ubax Gardheere
...Muslim Somali-American social justice warrior-turned-politician who was sent to a mental hospital as the result of this episode...
threatening school children while claiming she may have a bomb or a gun and then calling them "cowards" as they flee from her.

Ubax Gardheere boarded the Highline School District bus on Jan. 12, 2010 as it was about to begin its morning route to Chinook Middle School. Gardheere can be seen walking on to the school bus filled with children. She tells the bus driver not to drive because "it's a matter of national security." She tells him the "bus is not leaving." The driver then calls the police.

When the driver asks her if something happened to one of the kids, she says "if something happens it's going to happen to you."

Gardheere then tells school children she is wearing loose clothing and she might have a bomb or a gun. "Someone better get here real quick," the bus driver exclaims. A heroic officer arrives and arrests her. Finally, as seen from the back of the bus, children flee out the back of the bus. Gardheere can be heard calling them "cowards" over and over again.

Deputy Prosecutor Gretchen Holmgren said students were afraid for their safety and as students fled through the rear emergency exit of the bus, Gardheere began screaming that they were "cowards" for abandoning their classmates.

Holmgren wrote the court, "While speaking with the middle school students, the defendant stated that she might have a bomb and might have a gun. When students attempted to escape out the back of the bus, she called them cowards and told them they would be responsible if something happened to their classmates. Several students believed she had a weapon of some kind and many feared for their lives."

According to a detective with the King County, Gardheere told the arresting officer she was "prepared to die." However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
no weapons were found in her possession. She eventually pled the felony charges down to a gross misdemeanor before trial.

This behavior has not dampened her popularity within the Democratic party. Democrat State Senator Rebecca Saldana said in her endorsement of Gardheere, "I will follow Ubax anywhere." Former radical Seattle City Council Member and activist Mike O'Brien called Gardheere "An amazing leader." It is unclear if Saladana or O'Brien were aware of Gardheere's bomb threats against children on a school bus when they gave their endorsements.

Nigerian Govt Writes Western Diplomats, Lists 'Atrocities' of Biafra Leader Nnamdi Kanu
[All Africa] The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr Nnamdi Kanu, orchestrated the killing of 60 persons and the destruction of property in 55 attacks across the South East and South South within four months.

The Federal Government stated this in a letter to western diplomats.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the letter dated April 26, 2021 detailed the atrocities committed by members of IPOB on the alleged instruction of Kanu who was then in exile.

NAN also reports that one of the attachments to the letter listed the attacks on lives and property by IPOB in some parts of the country between January and April 2021.

With several Kanu's broadcasts from Europe, there were concerns in official quarters that some western countries were justifying IPOB's violent mostly peaceful acts under the guise of the group's pursuit of self-determination.

According to the "demarche" from the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to some western countries, the Federal Government objected to a statement by an agency of a western nation whose government had noted and admitted that the creation of Eastern Security Network (ESN), based on its own understanding, was to combat insecurity.

The Federal Government, in its letter, however considered the statement (by the western nation) as "justifying the establishment of a militia by a non-state actor and glossing over the destructive and violent mostly peaceful acts of IPOB and the ESN."

"In under four months this year, IPOB has carried out over fifty-five (55) violent mostly peaceful acts in various parts of Southeast Nigeria killing scores of people and destroying many properties."

"Indeed it would seem that the position of the (western nation) seems to have further emboldened Nnamdi Kanu the self-confessed leader of IPOB.

"As recently as 22nd April, 2021, broadcasting online from his base in London, Mr Kanu has issued series of instructions to his militia and other members of the outlawed organization, on acts of violence to be carried out within the territory of Nigeria," the Federal Government stated in the letter.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Bad Guys carried out 41attacks in Idlib de-escalation zone in Syria
Direct translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RT] Rear Admiral Vadim Kulit, deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties (CPVS) in Syria, said that fighters of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group had fired 41 attacks in the Idlib de-escalation zone in the SAR.

"In the Idlib de-escalation zone, 41 attacks were recorded from the positions of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group (including 31 attacks, according to the Syrian side). In the province of Idlib, 15 attacks were registered, in the province of Latakia - 16 attacks, in the province of Aleppo - seven attacks, in the province of Hama - three attacks," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying .

Earlier it was reported that sappers of the Russian armed forces destroyed a cave abandoned by militants in the Syrian "white desert" near Palmyra, which was previously used as a command post.

Bad Guys have been busy of late

Rear Admiral Vadim Kulit was formerly commander of Primorsky Flotilla.

IDF attacked Hamas weapons manufacturing site in response to incendiary-laden balloons launch

Israel bombs Hamas weapons factory in Gaza in response to arson balloons

[IsraelTimes] Israeli warplanes bombed a Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, weapons factory in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip early Friday in response to a wave of arson balloon attacks launched at Israel from the coastal enclave the day before, the Israel Defense Forces said.

The army said the site was used by the terror organization to develop and build weapons.

"The strike was carried out in response to the arson balloon attacks on Israeli territory. The IDF will respond with determination against all terror attempts from the Gaza Strip," the army said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The incendiary balloons launched from Gaza Thursday sparked four fires near Israeli towns along the southern border, breaking more than two weeks of quiet since the last wave of arson attacks.

Most of the fires were small and not dangerous, according to the Fire and Rescue Services, which said that its respondents quickly managed to gain control of the blazes in the Eshkol Regional Council before significant damage was caused.

In June, arson balloons launched by Hamas operatives caused some 20 fires in Israeli communities in the Gaza periphery. IDF planes struck a wide range of Hamas military targets throughout the Strip, responding to the attacks in less than a day.

The response by the new government led by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett indicated a shift in policy from the previous one, which did not always respond to arson balloon attacks with Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s, and wouldn’t do so as quickly or as forcibly, in order to avoid escalation along the southern border.

For the past three years, Paleostinians in the Gaza Strip, mostly linked to Hamas and other terror groups, have launched thousands of balloon-borne incendiary and bombs into southern Israel, causing widespread fires and significant damage to agricultural fields, nature reserves, and private property.

Hamas has used the launching of incendiary devices in order to keep pressure on Israel to move along with reconstruction efforts in the Strip.

Bennett, who replaced Benjamin Netanyahu on June 13, had long urged a tougher response to arson balloons, saying in previous years that they should be treated the same as rockets, and that attacks on southern Israel should receive the same response as attacks targeting central Israel.

In 2018, for instance, Bennett — then the education minister — called for the IDF to try to kill all those launching attack balloons from Gaza, a proposal that was opposed by then-IDF chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot.

#2  I was thinking about the issue of whether it would be easier to laser kill drones or incendiary balloons.

It would seem balloons would be easier except that the balloon bobble with the lower level wind turbulence and also the incendiary isn't what you want your laser to hit.

[Gateway] A picture is worth a thousand words. So these two pictures tell you two thousand words worth of Ashley Babbit’s. He is demonstrably incompetent.

Shooter or not, are there more like him in there ?

Secret Service? Private security agent? Interrupted drug delivery? Dominion SW source code? Little wonder no one wishes to discuss the issue.

#4  ^#2 "go-box" include the "go-bag" which is an 'essentials' bag of items needed for evacuations or quick departures. Go-box is a name used for a number of electronic devices.

The "Go-Box" is often a box, crate, carry-case, modified briefcase or similar construction containing electronic equipment pre-setup and ready to function. The box can then be taken into the field or placed at a remote site with minimal effort.

#11  The Vice President’s Residence & Office Links to The White House Web Site

Other Information:
She has several of them. she has a home office at his official residence, the Naval Observatory, located at One Observatory Circle.

She has an office in the Senate Wing of the Capitol Building which she uses in his Constitutional capacity as President of the Senate.

The Office of the Vice President, run by a Chief of Staff, is an official US Government department and is headquartered in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building (before that the Old Executive Office Building and before that the State, War and Navy Building), just across West Executive Drive (sort of a private driveway on the WH campus) from the West Wing of the White House.

In addition, at the direction of the president, she has an office in the West Wing as well. Not all presidents have wanted their veeps so close and some have been exiled into the EOB, but Pence had space in the West Wing.

Many long term Beltway hands have “hideaway” offices in various government buildings; places they can go for secret meetings and just some quiet time. These are generally the office they occupied as a younger and less powerful version of themselves they just decided to keep when they moved on and pulled the required strings. I doubt Pence has one; before he was Governor he did 6 terms in the House, but 12 years isn’t all that long a tenure in the Beltway. But other veeps have had them; LBJ for example

#12  USSS - United States Secret Service
Attire:
Special agents and special officers of the Secret Service wear attire that is appropriate for their surroundings, in order to blend in as much as possible. In most circumstances, the attire of a close protection shift is a conservative suit, but it can range from a tuxedo to casual clothing as required by the environment. Stereotypically, Secret Service agents are often portrayed wearing reflective sunglasses and a communication earpiece. Often their attire is customized to conceal the wide array of equipment worn in service. Agents wear a distinctive lapel pin that identifies them to other agents.

Lapel Pin
Blackinton & Co., which primarily makes badges for police departments, “is the sole proprietor that has the expertise in manufacturing lapel emblems that have new security enhancement technology feature [redacted],” the latest Secret Service purchasing document says.

David Long, Blackinton’s COO, says it is “the only badge manufacturer in the world” that offers a patented authentication technology it calls the “SmartShield.” Each one contains a tiny RFID transponder chip that links to an agency database listing all the necessary information needed to verify that the person with the badge is the one authorized to be carrying it and that the badge itself is authentic.

#30  For years I maintained and managed the numbered War plan for a particular nation for which my unit was preplanned. Routinely read and directed traffic for senior planners and logisticians [pertinent to the area. I was read in at the highest levels of classification for that country, but had trouble over time being able to differentiate between the classified traffic and the content of the Washington Post, NYT. etc.... so the only solution was to never utter a word about that area outside a SCIF.

SCIF. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (pronounced "skiff"), a U.S. Department of Defense term for a secure room. It can be a secure room or data center that guards against electronic surveillance and suppresses data leakage of sensitive security and military information.
