[CBS] This week on 60 Minutes, Scott Pelley and a team of producers continued their five-year investigation into Havana Syndrome, the phenomenon of mysterious brain injuries to U.S. national security officials and diplomats, and their families, both abroad and at home, that in some cases have led to major health conditions, like blindness, memory loss, and vestibular damage.
This fourth installment brought major developments to the story: a suspected link between attacks in Tbilisi, Georgia and a top-secret Russian intelligence unit, and evidence that a reliable source calls "a receipt" for acoustic weapons testing done by the same Russian intelligence unit.
A retired Army lieutenant colonel who led the Pentagon investigation into these incidents, Lt. Col. Greg Edgreen, told 60 Minutes he is confident that Russia is behind these attacks, and that they are part of a worldwide campaign to neutralize U.S. officials.
Statements of White House, FBI, Office of the Director of National Intelligence to 60 Minutes
"If my mother had seen what I saw, she would say, 'It's the Russians, stupid,'" Edgreen told 60 Minutes.
60 Minutes Overtime spoke to producers Oriana Zill de Granados and Michael Rey about the story's evolution over the course of their investigation, as they pulled back layers of government secrecy to speak with victims, identify a potential technology used to attack them, and examine a Russian intelligence unit that may have been behind some of the Havana Syndrome incidents.
"In the first story we said, 'Hmm. Is this Russia?' Second round of stories we felt, 'This is starting to look like Russia.' And in this story, our sources are telling us that it's Russia," producer Michael Rey told 60 Minutes Overtime.
The investigation begins
In 2014, producer Oriana Zill de Granados worked on a 60 Minutes story about the opening of the U.S. embassy in Cuba under then-President Obama. After the embassy had opened in 2015, media outlets began reporting on a series of strange medical symptoms exhibited by U.S. embassy personnel working in Cuba: dizziness, fatigue, problems with memory, and impaired vision.
"And we very early on started approaching people within the intelligence community and the Department of State, to find out what these incidents were. That led us to China, which really expanded the story beyond Havana, Cuba," Zill de Granados told 60 Minutes Overtime.

[Red State] Iran's navy does not have a very good track record. The Islamic Republic makes a lot of noise about its abilities, but in the end, it has stayed out of a hot war. Unmanned drones and their proxies like the Houthis are Iran’s best bet for keeping its navy from ending up on the ocean floor. Sometimes, Iran’s ships don’t need an enemy to end up sinking. In the past few years, Iran has seen three vessels sink due to accidents.
In January 2018, an Iranian destroyer named the Damavand (apparently, Iran names its destroyers after mountains) struck a breakwater in the Caspian Sea, rolled to starboard, and sank. The Damavand was launched in 2015.
In June 2021, another Iranian Naval warship named the Kharg caught fire and, 20 hours later, sank to the bottom of the Gulf of Oman.
On Monday, Iran’s most "advanced" warship, the destroyer Sahand (named, yes, for a mountain), was in dock for "repairs." Someone must have left a door open because the ship took on water and, according to Iranian news mouthpieces, "lost its balance." It slowly filled with seawater and rolled. The Sahand lost its balance and rolled to port, sinking into the silty muck.

I read someplace that the Iranians kept adding 'stuff' to the vessel's superstructure and apparently didn't take into account the effect on the vessel's buoyancy.
That and 'leaving the door open' (kind of like dropping a cigarette in the ammo storage compartment) might signal a failure in human cognition.
That and not keeping your dock areas dredged of 'silty muck' might make for a painful recovery.

[NY Post] Russia launched a barrage of missiles on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities in a rare daytime attack on Monday, killing at least 20 people across the country and hitting a key children’s hospital, officials said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Russian forces fired more than 40 missiles targeting different cities and damaging infrastructure, commercial and residential buildings in different Ukrainian cities.
Kyiv city authorities said seven people were killed and at least 25 were wounded in the strike on the capital.
In Kryviy Rih, the native city of Zelensky, 10 people were killed and 31 were injured, said Mayor Oleksandr Vilkul.
Another three people died in Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine when missiles hit an industrial facility, said Donestk regional governor.
"All services are involved to save as many people as possible," Zelensky said on the Telegram messaging app. "And the whole world should use all its determination to finally put an end to the Russian strikes."
Russia has repeatedly denied targeting civilians.
The major attack on Ukraine came as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban met Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss a potential Ukraine peace deal, paying an unexpected visit to Beijing.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the attack on the capital was one of the heaviest since the start of Russia’s invasion in Feb. 2022.

[Hot Air] Back in the early 90s, we had the opposite problem that we're facing today with our military recruiting efforts. We actually had too many people serving on active duty and we were overrunning the Pentagon's budget. (This was back when people in Washington actually paid attention to such things.) As a result, the Army began offering some service members cash incentives to voluntarily leave early. In 1992, Vernon Reffitt was one of the people receiving such an offer. He accepted a one-time $30,000 check to pack up his duffle bag and go home. But he had been injured during his service and later began receiving monthly disability compensation payments that helped him get by. But now, the federal government has notified the 62-year-old veteran that he must repay the $30,000 he was given. When he was unable to do so, they began withholding his disability payments. How did anyone in Washington think this was an appropriate action? (NBC News)
[Remix] A new court ruling in Germany’s most populous state, North Rhine-Westphalia, bans Alternative for Germany (AfD) members from owning firearms. The judges from the Dusseldorf Administrative Court said their ruling was based on the classification of Germany’s domestic intelligence service, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), which listed the party as a "suspected" threat to democracy. "Threat to Democracy." Where might we have heard such a notion previously ?
The case was initially brought by a married couple that owned over 200 firearms and held a legal permit to do so. Their permit was, however, revoked due to their membership in the AfD. The couple initially sued and lost this case. However, they have now also lost their appeal, as the court argues that members of the party are suspected of anti-constitutional activities and therefore "unreliable" based on current gun laws, according to the court.
The court’s ruling means the married couple must either hand over their firearms to the authorities or destroy them, as well as any ammunition. The husband owns 197 firearms, while the wife owns 27. However, the court is still allowing the case to move forward on appeal to the highest court in the state, the Munster Higher Administrative Court, "due to (the case’s) fundamental importance."
According to the latest court ruling, the judges said that the ban on weapons for AfD members does not violate the party privilege provided for in Article 21 of the German constitution, known as the Basic Law.
Earlier this year, that same Munster court already confirmed the BfV’s classification of the AfD as a "suspected threat" to democracy after the AfD challenged this classification.

Would amember of AfD be accepted into either of those categories, European Conservative? I am reminded of when Mr. Wife and I went to sign up for riding lessons at the Bad Soden a.T. stable, and were told that while he could have afternoon/evening lessons, my only possibility — as a Hausfrau — was in the morning, even though my personal choice was in the afternoon while my toddlers took a nap.
A gun ownership card (Waffenbesitzkarte) grants permission to purchase and possess firearms with specific details listed on the card. The card is issued by the relevant authority in different jurisdictions. It also specifies the permission to purchase and possess ammunition for the registered firearms. The possession of firearms is allowed for hunters, sport shooters, and individuals who can provide credible evidence of being at a greater risk of life-threatening attacks and can reduce the risk by possessing a firearm. However, the card only permits the purchase and possession of a weapon and does not allow carrying it in public.
To obtain the card, individuals must meet certain requirements, including being at least 18 years old, demonstrating reliability, suitability, expertise, and having appropriate liability insurance. Additionally, a plausible written justification for the need of a firearm is required.
For carrying a firearm in public places, a firearms license (Waffenschein) is necessary. It is only granted to individuals who can prove a legitimate need for it, such as those working in the security sector. However, the firearm can only be used in specific circumstances. Persons who can credibly demonstrate that their life and limb are also threatened outside their own home or business premises can also obtain a firearms license. The firearms license also authorizes the holder to acquire and possess a firearm. Shooting with a firearm must be applied for separately with a corresponding permit.

[IsraelTimes] The slogans scrawled all over make me feel like the city itself is screaming at us - until people with megaphones ramp up the violence
There’s been something on my mind for a couple of weeks since Josh Burns’s office was vandalized and set on fire. For those who do not know, Josh Burns is a Jewish Minister of Parliament here in Australia, for a seat in Melbourne with a significant Jewish population. It was actually something he said at the press conference following the attack: that people are bringing an overseas conflict in the Middle East to Melbourne, that what happens here has no impact on the war in Israel and Gaza.
I’ve heard many people say this and I understand the sentiment, yet it still bothered me. I think it is misguided and shows a sort of failure to see what is right in front of us. The thing is, this war is not just in the Middle East. This war has many fronts and some of those are not conventional combat zones. In my opinion, we are at war. Right here. A war that is psychological, societal, relational. It is a war of information and propaganda that is harming all of us who have to live here together.
This war takes place online where words are being used to distort and invert Jewish suffering, both current and past. Words that echo libels and describe us as the most evil villains on earth. This propaganda ruthlessly demands the right to define us and decide for us what is or is not a legitimate and moral expression of Jewishness, aiming to distinguish between “good Jews” and “bad Jews.” War is waged through the appropriation of our concepts and our language, such as Zionism, Jew, Israel, and twisting them to fit a paradigm utterly foreign to the facts of who we are and what we experience, war is being waged.
The battle scars are recorded in our hearts and souls, manifesting as deep feelings of betrayal, isolation and loss. The wave of hateful words and outright lies can feel like a flood, like we are drowning. But the war does not remain online, it seeps onto the streets.
As elsewhere in the Diaspora, Melbourne’s streets, sidewalks, lampposts, bus stops, footpaths, shopfronts, and walls are a battleground plastered with hate. Slogans scrawled on posters and stickers or spray-painted on the bricks and concrete of our iconic laneways are so prevalent in some areas they make us feel as if the city itself is screaming at us, at me directly, that I am a “baby killer,” and “colonial aggressor,” a stain on all that is good. And why? For daring to be who we are, a people, the Jewish people, connected to each other wherever we are in the world, and to our ancestral home.
The battle wounds from this front land in a similar way, also psychological, triggering feelings of isolation, anger, dislocation and maybe sometimes shame even though we have nothing to be ashamed of. Often there is another battle wound, this one is sort of self-imposed; the limiting or hesitating to travel freely, carelessly without a thought about safety, as we should do in the city we live in. But we often cannot, we stop and think and talk with each other about what the contingency plan is in case of possible hostile encounters. A metaphorical clipping of our own wings.
This is bad. This particular front requires not just us to fight, by fortifying ourselves and taking up space in public, but also government, to take responsibility for the atmosphere of society, its texture and temperature. Good, working, cohesive societies don’t just form organically, they require governance, and sometimes they require really energetic governance, to enact its own policies in order to affirm its core values and norms.
Of course, the war of information and propaganda, of lies and distortion and hate, also spills over into the people on the streets, where some gather regularly to scream abuse at Jews, with megaphones, and picket signs, and catchy rhymes. Sometimes tens of thousands of people chant and repeat abusive heinous lies. “All Zionists are terrorists” is a favorite. This chant is very disturbing. It is hate speech. This chant is inciting hate. Zionism, a legitimate expression of Jewishness, an expression that is far more ancient than the term itself, is being cast as a criminal offence. This accusation is intolerable. The shrieking public’s charge (albeit a loud minority of useful idiots) that 70-90 percent of our community, a minority ethnic group in this country, are terrorists, is simply illegal. It is a violation of the Racial Discrimination Act as well as the Victorian Human Rights Charter. No ethnic group or any minority group should endure such vilification, such abuse.
Every. Single. Week.
There are many more vile chants and they seep into our pores causing us tremendous harm — more psychological blows. But they don’t just seep into our pores, they seep into the pores of society as a whole. People, organizations, boards, businesses, entire sectors, especially in the arts (and for Melbourne Jews, this is especially stinging) are infected with this indoctrination, blinding so many people from basic morality. The battle scars here manifest though cancelations, of events and of people, of Jewish artists, performers, entrepreneurs. Venues for events are moved or are kept secret. Businesses closing, moving closer to community because these days the Jewish thread that contributes to the rich tapestry of Melbourne multiculturalism is just not that palatable anymore.
And sometimes the wounds are physical, when a megaphone is thrust against your ear and a person is shrieking about how many children you murdered today, the words cut your soul but the sound itself is an assault on the actual body, eardrum punched by vicious relentless sound waves. When mobs of people whose faces are covered by keffiyot, charge at teenagers, young girls and boys, elderly bubbahs and zaidas, and our mothers too, simply exiting train stations, this is societal violence targeting Jewish people. These mobs scream “fcking Zionists” and “sharmuta,” forcing police to create actual human protective barriers and even having to lift and carry Jewish people (including Holocaust survivors) out of the violent throng. These physical assaults are illegal. We have laws to protect people from such violence and law enforcement must enforce the law.
The media is also complicit in this war-waging, swimming so arrogantly in the bias it creates. Using phrases either carelessly or in carefully calculated ways, to draw equivalences between a barbaric, homophobic, misogynist terror organization that brutalized, tortured, maimed and murdered, thousands of civilians, with the legitimate military response of the country it attacked.
But the equivalences don’t end there. Media reports draw equivalences between intimidating and sometimes violent face-covered mobs here in Australia, with Jews simply existing in public and defending our right to be in public without being attacked. They report on “clashes” between two opposing sides when it is Jewish individuals or Jewish groups being ambushed, abused and attacked. But the media so often implies the sides are equal in hostility, motives, actions and ethics. And then they give airtime to people spouting phrases that call for the total elimination of the only Jewish home in the world. A home we need now more than we ever have before.
And the most heartbreaking theatre of war is the war our children are enduring. The antisemitism they not only see but experience directly, copping hateful abuse on social media (and they are so online, so they witness and experience a lot), on footy and soccer grounds, in nightclubs and parties and festivals, in classrooms and school assemblies, on campuses on public transport and in shopping centers. I work with teenagers and have been told so many stories from my students about what they experienced over the weekend or after school. When I think about the battle wounds of this theatre of war I just weep. I know it makes them strong, and proud, and more Jewish than ever. But it breaks my heart.
This theatre of war is not in Israel or Gaza. It is in the Diaspora. Of course, the dangers are different, but they are real. This theatre of war is very particular. Fighting antisemitism in the Diaspora (while our Jewish family fights terrorism in Israel) has its unique qualities and requires unique strategies, different to those of our brothers and sisters in Israel. This theatre of war has existential consequences for Jews around the world. It will leave battle scars that will require years, if not generations, to process and hopefully heal.
So that is what has been on my mind. We are not experiencing the Middle East as though it has been transplanted here. We are experiencing a war of our own. Make no mistake, we are in the midst of it. All of us. We are fighting. All of us, in different ways. That is why we are so tired, so depleted. But not completely depleted or diminished. We should acknowledge this, speak of it, explain it to our leaders and to our friends.
Whether we like it or not, we are soldiers here too. Not in uniform, and not with guns or trucks or tanks. We fight though, with strength and with soul, for our existence and for our future.
[OutKick via Fox News] A man used a pistol to take down a massive bear.
Generally speaking, you need some serious firepower to take down a bear due to its massive size, strength and muscle makeup. You don't want to find yourself in a showdown with a bear and be unarmed or only have a small pistol.
However, in a pinch, you have to work with what you have, and that's what happened to a hunter in Alaska.
(More info and pictures of the bear in question at the link, just so you know, the guy used a 10mm pistol to put down the bear!)

10 mm Auto is currently the preferred bear handgun. A Glock 20 will hold 15+1 10 mm rounds which are roughly equivalent to the .41 Magnum. More rounds, less recoil and easier to shoot compared to the .44 Magnum and bigger revolvers.

As it turns out, consuming just one alcoholic beverage per day — whether it be a pint of beer, a glass of wine or a shot of your favorite spirit — can shorten your lifespan by approximately two-and-a-half months, one expert asserts
Dr. Tim Stockwell, of the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research, told Daily Mail that those who drink significantly more alcohol than that — about 35 beverages a week — could slash a staggering two years off their lifespan.

If you're really interested in any study, you've got to get past the biased 'reporting' and search read the study for assumptions, limitations, and need for more research to determine if it's worth worrying about.
I learned this from the CDC-sponsored mask study reported as proof masks are vital one day, and useless the next day. Reading parts of the the original study showed it hopelessly flawed and pointless.

[ChicagoSunTimes] Of those shot, 24 were in mass shootings in Greater Grand Crossing, the Near West Side, Douglas and Austin.
Seventeen people have been killed and at least 83 wounded during shootings in Chicago over the extended Fourth of July weekend.
By the end of Friday, the tally of shootings — six people shot Thursday and 62 shot Friday, 12 killed over both days — surpassed the numbers for last year’s entire holiday weekend. Last year, 11 people were killed and 62 wounded over the holiday weekend, which stretched over four days, July 1-4.
This year’s holiday violence includes four mass shootings. In all, 24 people were shot, four fatally, in the mass attacks.
Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement the Chicago Police Department would deploy officers whose days off for the holiday weekend were previously canceled, aiming “to maximize presence and ensure prompt incident response.”
“We are devastated by the recent violence that has left our city in a state of grief, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and communities impacted by these recent events,” Johnson’s office said in a statement.

[Powerline] A week ago, the National Rally, a "far right" anti-mass third world immigration party, got the most votes in the first round of France’s two-step voting for the National Assembly. There was hope in some quarters that the Rally could win an absolute majority in today’s second round of balloting, and form a government.
But it was not to be. President Macron and his party joined with leftist parties (including socialists and Communists) to frustrate the "far right." Whichever of those groups had finished third in a given district withdrew, so they could consolidate their forces against the Rally. And fear of a conservative victory drove the highest turnout since 1981.
The result is that the far left is now in the driver’s seat. Exit polling indicates that a coalition of left-wing parties will win somewhere between 172 and 192 seats in the Assembly, Macron’s party 150 to 170, and the National Rally 132 to 152. There are some seats left over for unaffiliated parties.
So the establishment united to block what it considers to be the ultimate horror—a sensible immigration policy. It is revealing, I think, that the French establishment was happy to unite with Communists rather than allow the "far right" to gain power. They certainly don’t want any extremists in the government!
This year’s election represents a high water mark for genuinely conservative parties in France, but participation in a governing coalition will have to await another day.

[Regnum] Representatives of the Democratic Party insist that US President Joe Biden withdraw his candidacy from the presidential election, the Axios portal wrote on July 7, citing its sources.
"A rapidly growing number of Democrats are praying and plotting for a more earthly intervention. They want everyone begging Biden to drop out by Friday," the publication says.
Democrats also hope, the article notes, that calls to not participate in the presidential elections will be heard “from Barack Obama to congressional leaders.”
Earlier, the American leader explained in what case he would withdraw from the presidential race. According to him, he would refuse to participate in the presidential race only if God descended from heaven and told him to do so.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, calls to remove Biden's candidacy from the upcoming US elections began to be heard immediately after the televised debates that took place between him and former US President Donald Trump on June 27. Many supporters of the Democratic Party considered the speech of the current president a failure. They pointed out that the American leader constantly stuttered and got confused when answering questions.
The American leader himself had previously cited international travel he had been taking throughout the month as the reason for his failed performance at the televised debates. Later, in an interview with Milwaukee radio host Earl Ingram, Biden admitted that he had “screwed up.”

[Regnum] The head of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, is seriously considering removing the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Oleksandr Syrsky from his post and replacing him with another general. This was stated by former CIA analyst Larry Johnson in an interview with the YouTube channel Dialogue Works.
"It looks like Zelensky now wants to get rid of Syrsky and replace him with someone," Johnson said.
Syrsky is blamed for the failures of the Ukrainian army at the front. According to the expert, the current commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine made critical tactical mistakes. In particular, before the start of the Russian army's offensive in the Kharkiv region, he did not strengthen the defense lines. This caused discontent on the part of Zelensky, the analyst added.
In addition, Johnson stated that at the moment Syrsky does not have enough soldiers to contain the Russian Armed Forces. And this fact also cannot be called positive for the current commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he emphasized.
On February 8, the leader of the Kiev regime dismissed Valeriy Zaluzhny from the post of commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and appointed Oleksandr Syrsky in his place.
In March, it became known that the fighters of the elite units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were unhappy with this action. The commander of the reconnaissance group of the 80th separate airborne assault brigade of the Ukrainian army, Maksym Shevtsov, noted that Zelensky, not Zaluzhny, needed to be replaced. He added that the head of the Kiev regime feels that his rating is zero, while that of the former commander-in-chief Zaluzhny is high.
We know, Maria.
[Regnum] Facts testifying to the Kiev regime's abuse of civilians in Donbass were presented by Russia, but the US media is doing everything to ignore this truth. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, to the Izvestia information centerwhen she was asked to comment on the material of the American newspaper The New York Times.
“It’s funny to watch American journalists pretending that they knew nothing about the abuse of the civilian population of Donbass,” Zakharova noted.
According to her, American journalists "suddenly" began to realize this, but the Russian side and independent journalists have repeatedly reported this to the world community. She emphasized that terrorist acts carried out daily for many years are open facts, but US publications do not say a word about what is happening.
The Russian Foreign Ministry representative believes that American media outlets act according to specific instructions given to them by their editors-in-chief and relevant services.
For many years, American media have been creating a distorted picture of what is happening, thereby supporting only the position of the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, and the Kiev regime itself, the diplomat summed up.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on July 6, German military doctor Kaspar Grosse, during a dialogue with an American publication, stated that foreign mercenaries operating as part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) are finishing off unarmed and wounded Russian soldiers and bragging about it on social networks. He also said that the UAF shot a Russian prisoner who asked for medical assistance.
Earlier, Russian Armed Forces servicemen eliminated Portuguese mercenary Rico Chavez in the special operation zone, who executed a Russian soldier who was captured.

[Regnum] With the help and participation of the Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova, 20 Russian children returned home from a refugee camp in northeastern Syria on July 7. This was reported by the press service of the ombudsman.
“A Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft carrying 20 children landed at the Chkalovsky airfield,” the press service reported.
According to experts, they managed to return children aged 5 to 15 years to Russia, including seven girls and 13 boys.
"The children will undergo a medical examination and social rehabilitation in one of the Moscow centers. After that, they will meet with their relatives, with whom they will live under guardianship," explained Maria Lvova-Belova.
The Ombudsman added that the return of Russian children from the Middle East region will continue. Thus, specialists took blood samples from a group of children in refugee camps to conduct molecular genetic DNA studies to confirm their relationship with Russian citizens.
In total, with the assistance of Maria Lvova-Belova, 566 children were returned to Russia from Syria, Iraq, Pakistan and Turkey.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, three children and their mother returned to Russia from Ukraine, Lvova-Belova reported on June 7 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
In Russia, the process of adoption of children by foreigners may be completely stopped. This is the conclusion reached by the Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights.

[Modernity] World Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab told delegates at a conference in China this week that humanity needs to be "forced into a collaboration" with globalist entities.
Speaking at the WEF’s ’Annual Meeting of the New Champions’, often dubbed the "Summer Davos," in China, Schwab stated that in order to drive the "Fourth Industrial Revolution" forward, elites must aggressively drive their agenda home.
"To drive future economic growth we must embrace innovation and force the collaboration across sectors, regions, nations, and cultures to create a more peaceful, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient future," Schwab proclaimed.
He added, "At this critical juncture the active participation of all stakeholders is essential to ensure a sustainable development path."

A career government bureaucrat's really going to tell me about expertise in innovation and economic growth? What a fucking crock - it must've sounded better in German.
#3
We will collaborate by turning the elites into soylent blue. They will taste foul, like the shit they're made from, but the other wanna be 'elites' will proclaim their perfection.

^#2 in German..just for fun. "Um das zukünftige Wirtschaftswachstum voranzutreiben, müssen wir Innovationen annehmen und die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Sektoren, Regionen, Nationen und Kulturen vorantreiben, um eine friedlichere, integrativere, nachhaltigere und widerstandsfähigere Zukunft zu schaffen.“

Klaus Martin Schwab was born on 30 March 1938, to Eugen Wilhelm Schwab and Erika Epprecht[3][4] in Ravensburg. His parents had moved from Switzerland to Germany during the Third Reich in order for his father to assume the role of director at Escher Wyss AG, an industrial company and contractor for the Nazi regime.[5][6] Although his father was baptized Lutheran,[7] Schwab was raised Catholic.[8] Although having three Swiss grandparents and two Swiss brothers, he is a citizen of Germany and has declined multiple offers for naturalization, from both Kurt Furgler[9] and Ueli Maurer.[10]
"To drive future economic growth, we must embrace innovation and foster collaboration across sectors, regions, nations and cultures to create a more peaceful, inclusive society and resilient future,” said Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman, World Economic Forum, in a welcome address to delegates.
It may be the usual blabla of empty phrases but at least quote it correctly.

No, he didn't say "force":
I watched Klaus's speech in English. In the opinion of this junior analyst, he said "force the collaboration across sectors".
I wonder if there is an "official transcript" that differs from the speech as delivered...

Between modern search and WEFin' website treating me like a pariah, I haven't heard that speech. Watched his Winterwundervelkom (whose main trust was, ironically, restoration of thrust), though. Betcha he defaulted to "forge." Loathe the guy and would love to be wrong... but is he really a taunting, right-to-your-face Bond villain? Freudian slipper, maybe.
[GEO.TV] CAIRO: An Israeli airstrike in Gaza City killed the Hamas-appointed deputy minister of labour in the Palestinian enclave, Hamas media reported on Sunday.
Ehab al-Ghussein was killed along with three other people in the attack, according to the Civil Emergency Service.
[NINANEWS] "Fars" News Agency reported that two people were killed in the sinking of the Iranian Navy's "Sahand" frigate in the southeast of the country.
The Agency added that the cause of the accident was likely due to a malfunction in the ship's balance tank or the entry of water after repairing the destroyer's shaft.
For its part, the Iranian "Mehr" News Agency explained that the frigate was involved in an accident in the waters of the coastal city of Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan Province, southeast of Iran, at the entrance to the Arabian Gulf.

"From West Bank to East Bank the best
Way to cross is the bridge. Heads due west.
To get to the Quarter,
Just follow the water
Downriver, due north."
"A beau geste! Uh, cher."
Total lie, of course. Gotta take the ferry. Caught the fireworks from practically underneath, lounging on the rail of the ramp one magic muggy July evening. After being irked that the boat was delayed, no less.
[FoxNews] 'Becky Pringle pulled a Dwight Schrute. She is off-the-rails and desperate to maintain control over the minds of other people’s children'
The president of the National Education Association (NEA) was mocked over the weekend for giving a "totally unhinged" speech that reminded critics of a comedy skit from a famous American TV show.
NEA President Becky Pringle banged on the podium, flailed her hands in the air and screamed about winning "all the things" repeatedly at the NEA's Annual Meeting and Representative Assembly (RA) in Philadelphia. X critics compared the moment to an iconic scene with Dwight Schrute from "The Office."
During the screechy speech, Pringle called for transformative social justice change in the education system in the pursuit of equity.
"To unite not just our members, but the nation to reclaim public education as a common good, as the foundation of our democracy, and then transform it into something it was never designed to be—a racially and socially just and equitable system," Pringle said. "We worked hard to rid ourselves of a tyrannical, deceitful, and corrupt White House, but the reality is that the seeds that were sown during that horrible season continue to germinate."
"We are the ones who help shape the heart of this nation's hope and dreams. We are the ones who hold steadfast to the belief in the plausibility of the possible. We are the heirs of all who did this work before us. We must keep going. NEA Delegates, we can do this work. We must do this work," she added.
"Our students are depending on us to win all the things," Pringle said, while continuing her screechy pitch. "All the things! All the things! All the things."
It’s been a while since we posted something from Mr. Steyn.
[SteynOnline] Well, I hope the French election on Sunday offers a faint glimmer of hope. Across the United Kingdom almost every constituency voted for lefties of various stripes - not just victorious Labour lefties, but also Scots nationalist lefties, Irish republican lefties, eco-lefties, Islamo-lefties and, of course, duplicitous pseudo-conservative lefties: you can get it in any colour as long as it's red. So, if you're one of those Britons concerned about, say, transformative mass migration or the right to freedom of speech, things are going to spend the next few years getting worse before there is any prospect of course correction.
This is squarely on the UK's hideous and repellent "Conservative and Unionist" party, which as a practical matter is neither. Effective politicians don't "move towards the centre"; they move the centre towards them, as Mrs Thatcher and President Reagan did. Instead, the Conservatives squandered fourteen years playing on the left's terms, and the result is a political culture that has never been less conservative, and a land where nothing works, from the creepily fetishised National Health Service to the wanker constabulary.
So Rishi Rich's party was pushed down to its worst ever result - worse than Balfour in 1906, if such comparisons are even relevant in a demographically transformed Britannia. The casualties include so-called "big beasts" (who, as someone remarks in The Prisoner of Windsor, are nowhere near as big as they were) of all stripes: floppo GB News host Jacob Rees-Mogadon, Coronation sword-wielder Penny Mordaunt, and former prime minister Liz Truss. And yet, bad as it was, it was not as bad as it should have been. It was not a Kim Campbell extinction-level event. So a left-wing government will be opposed in Parliament by a mush-left faux-opposition that agrees with it on Net Zero, "online harms", the European Court of Human Rights, the Northern Ireland Protocol and the subversion of Brexit...oh, and doubtless the necessity of the next lockdown.

[Townhall] Americans around the world are celebrating independence today with vacations, outings, sales, bar-b-ques, fireworks, and more. As Americans wake up, Israelis are experiencing a modern "rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air." Unfortunately, despite the US embassy hosting a festive event yesterday, these are not celebratory fireworks but the consequence of war from the Iranian Islamic regime proxy, Hezbollah, in Leb ...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers... As of this writing, Israel has endured more than an hour of near-nonstop incoming barrages of rockets and exploding drones across the northern border, from the Haifa Bay area, Acco and Nahariya on the western coast, across the Galilee and Golan to the east, and south along the Sea of Galilee. As harrowing and angering as this is, what’s worse is knowing that at any moment Hezbollah could unleash an even more massive barrage, including thousands of precision GPS guided missiles, not just in the north but at all of Israel.
Sipping coffee over the morning news, in addition to the weather forecast, an exceedingly hot day, Israelis received a war forecast as well. In 20 years, I don’t ever remember hearing reports like this. The report went something like this, "dangerous heat levels with high probability of incoming rockets."

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.
[Korrespondent] 21:19 Newly appointed UK Defence Secretary John Healey, on his first overseas visit to Ukraine in office, announced a new package of military aid, which included, in particular, 250,000 rounds of .50-calibre ammunition; 90 Brimstone anti-tank missiles; 50 small military boats to support riverine and coastal operations; 40 mine-clearing vehicles; ten AS-90 artillery guns, etc. Healey also instructed government officials to ensure that the military aid package promised in April is expedited and delivered to Ukraine in full within the next 100 days.
21:02 The Dutch government will hand over a mobile forensic laboratory to Ukraine, Prosecutor General Andrey Kostin said following a meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp. Together they inspected the Odessa Transfiguration Cathedral, damaged by Russian shelling. In addition, the Netherlands will allocate 2 million euros for forensic examinations and identification of bodies and will help in the return of children illegally deported by Russia.
20:56 Zelensky reported that today, on the Day of the Ukrainian Navy, he is visiting Odessa and honored the memory of the fallen Ukrainian soldiers. Also in Odessa with the president are the new ministers of defense and foreign affairs of the Netherlands, as well as the new British defense minister.
"We will continue to strengthen the Ukrainian fleet together with Britain, together with the Netherlands - there are good new details of our cooperation. We talked today about strengthening air defense, this is our absolute priority, I am grateful for the willingness to take the next steps - in particular on the F-16," the head of state said.
20:01 Putin told Orban that he had "no positive expectations" regarding a ceasefire before peace talks with Ukraine. "He said that there were no positive expectations about this. Zelensky said that he had no positive expectations because the Russians would use it against Ukraine, and Putin said that the Ukrainians would use this pause against Russia. And I said: let's think about it, I understand your arguments," the Hungarian prime minister said.
Orban also said he considered himself "the only Western leader who can talk to both Kiev and Moscow at the same time" because everyone else "has created a situation where they have no opportunity to directly contact the two main players." Orban said Putin told him that real negotiations are impossible without involving both sides, and "what they do without them is irrelevant, which is logical."
19:18 Estonian President Alar Karis is convinced that Ukraine's future membership in NATO cannot be a subject of negotiations. He also warned against a deceptive "truce" with Russia that would involve concessions to Ukraine.
18:55 Dutch Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs Ruben Brekelmans and Caspar Veldkamp confirmed at a press conference in Kiev that their country, together with its partners, will provide Ukraine with an additional Patriot system.
18:23 The Minister of Defense of the newly appointed Dutch government, Ruben Brekelmans, made his first working visit to Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense reported.
18:16 Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced peace steps in Ukraine next week: "Sunday, the first week of the Hungarian presidency of the union and the government meeting at the same time ended. Now everyone can be sure that the next six months will be a peace mission, in order to finally bring peace to our region. The peace mission continues and even gets stronger, so I ask European politicians who support the war: fasten your seat belts and stay tuned next week."

[FoxNews] None of the 51 signatories expressed regret about signing the letter
Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., took aim at a group of intelligence officials responsible for signing a letter that sought to discredit the Hunter Biden laptop story on the eve of the 2020 election.
"The 51 should all be prosecuted for knowingly pushing a false statement," Tenney said in a post on X Sunday. "See 18 U.S.C. § 1001, it's a felony crime to: make a ‘false statement’ to an agent of the federal government related to a federal matter."
A palpable point.
"The 51" in Tenney’s post refers to 51 former top intel officials who signed on to a letter claiming that the laptop at the center of a New York Post report just weeks before the 2020 election bore all the hallmarks of a Russian disinformation campaign, a document that was later used by President Biden to shrug off concerns over the device in a debate with former President Trump. It was later revealed that the laptop was real, even eventually being entered as evidence in Hunter Biden’s federal gun trial.
In the wake of that trial, Fox News Digital reached out to all 51 individuals who signed the October 2020 letter to ask if they regretted signing it after it was revealed to be authentic.
"No," former Obama Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said.
"This is very old news," Greg Treverton, a signatory who previously served as chair of the National Intelligence Council, told Fox News Digital. ‘"What we said was true, we were inferring from our experience, and it did look like a Russian operation.
This, of course, strongly suggests that they were not competent to hold the positions in which they gained that experience. Are any of them named Peter?
We didn't, and couldn't of course say it was a Russian operation. Enough said."
Meanwhile, an attorney for signatories Ronald Marks, Marc Polymeropoulos, Douglas Wise, Paul Kolbe, John Sipher, Emile Nakhleh and Gerald O’Shea provided Fox News Digital with a statement that claimed signing the letter was a "patriotic" move by his clients.
"A careful and objective reading of the document reflects that even today its content is accurate," the attorney, Mark S. Zaid, said. "It served as nothing more than a warning letter of what we have known for decades: certain foreign governments – including Russia – continue to try and actively interfere in our domestic affairs and our guard must remain vigilant. Every patriotic American should have signed that letter."
"The full list of signatories is as follows:

[GEO.TV] Israel carried out deadly air strikes in the Gaza Strip on Sunday as the war entered its 10th month, with fighting raging across the Palestinian territory and fresh diplomatic efforts underway to halt the violence.
Not real diplomatic efforts. Hamas is throwing things against the wall to see what triggers the international world to force Isrqelto surrender, while Israel is placating the Israel/Jew-haters in the Biden administration, including the president.
Lebanon's Hezbollah movement fired another 20 rockets at northern Israel, leaving one person injured there, the latest cross-border attacks launched in solidarity with Gaza's Palestinian group Hamas.
Efforts towards a truce continued with US, Qatari and Egyptian mediators hoping to halt the worst-ever Gaza war, which has caused mass civilian casualties and devastated the coastal territory since Hamas's October 7 attack on Israel.
More importantly, don’t start a war with Israel by committing a mass atrocity that would have made the Nazis proud.

[GEO.TV] Any Gaza ceasefire deal must allow for Israel to keep fighting until it achieves its war objectives, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.
He added that the deal must prohibit weapons smuggling to Hamas via the Gaza-Egypt border and should not allow for thousands of armed fighters to return to northern Gaza. Israel will maximise the number of live hostages returned, Netanyahu said in a statement.
[GEO.TV] A top Hamas official told AFP on Sunday that the Palestinian fighters were ready to discuss a hostage deal and an end to the Gaza war without a "complete and permanent ceasefire".
The apparent easing of the Hamas position comes amid renewed mediation efforts by the United States, Qatar and Egypt to tempt the rivals into talks to halt nine months of war and secure a deal to release hostages held by Hamas and prisoners detained by Israel.
"Hamas had previously required that Israel agree to a complete and permanent ceasefire," the official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.
"This step was by-passed, as the mediators pledged that as long as the prisoner negotiations continued, the ceasefire would continue," he added.

Hamas' SOP is to kill the hostages and hide the bodies - to exchange for live terrorists. That's why they refuse providing the list of life hostages.
A small Russian spectrum analyzer functions as a drone detector. Here three drones are being tracked. The operator would know from the video frequencies what type of drones they are, FPV or Mavic. https://t.co/nZthBQNelBpic.twitter.com/B7JhT8qv6L

That would be how you do it. The problem is the trained tech using it has to be kept near the front lines, or you won't get any advanced warning.
So what they'll do is work out which frequency bands are most likely, and make a stripped down limited function version that ordinary grunts can carry. It just has an earphone that goes 'beep'.

[KavkazUzel] Wearing the niqab is a custom, not an obligation for Muslim women, the Muftiate of Kabardino-Balkaria stated after the idea of banning niqabs was supported by the Muslim administrations of Dagestan and Karachay-Cherkessia.
As the "Caucasian Knot" reported, a temporary ban on wearing niqabs has been introduced in Dagestan; it is in effect until a new theological conclusion, the republic's muftiate announced on July 3. The following day, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Karachay-Cherkessia also introduced a temporary ban on wearing niqabs in the republic.
The fatwa of the Dagestan Muftiate on the ban on the niqab is not mandatory, it will be followed only by those for whom the muftiate is an authority, and this is far from all residents of the republic, religious scholars interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" indicated. The opinions of experts on whether the fatwa of the Dagestan Muftiate will be implemented are collected by the "Caucasian Knot" in the reference " Fatwa on the ban on the niqab - a law or a recommendation? "
The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kabardino-Balkaria published its position regarding wearing niqabs today on its Telegram channel, citing the opinions of Islamic scholars.
"The majority of scholars believe that the awrah (awrah or awrat is the part of the body that Muslims are obliged to cover in front of other people. - Ed. "Caucasian Knot") of a free woman is her entire body, except for her face and hands. Wearing a niqab by a woman is not an obligatory Shariah prescription. All Egyptian Fatwa Houses adhere to this opinion. As for the niqab, in many societies wearing it is a custom, and not a Shariah obligation. The clothes that people wear are often more associated with folk customs and traditions, and not with religious prescriptions," the publication says.
The Muftiate publication provides examples of such opinions. "The Hanafi scholar al-Quduri notes in Mukhtasar al-Quduri: "The entire body of a free woman is awrah except her face, hands and feet" (p. 26)... The Maliki scholar Imam ad-Dardir writes in Ash-Sharh al-Kabir: "The entire body of a free woman is awrah in front of a stranger except her face and hands" (vol. 1, p. 214).
Imam ad-Dasuqi explains in Hashiya ala ash-Sharh al-Kabir: "It is disgraceful for a woman to cover her face with a niqab, as this is considered excessive, unless this is the custom in their country (locality). “Because this is not required by the great Sunnah” (vol. 1, p. 218). The Shafi’i scholar Sheikh-ul-Islam Zakariya al-Ansari notes in “Asna al-Matalib”: “The awrah of a free woman in prayer and in front of a stranger includes the entire body, except for the face and hands” (vol. 1, p. 174),” the publication says.
In the "Documents of Organizations" section of the "Caucasian Knot" an " Explanation from the Fatwa Department of the Muftiate of Dagestan regarding the ban on niqabs " was published.
Let us recall that wearing the niqab and burqa in modern conditions causes practical harm to Muslims and threatens discord in interreligious and interethnic relations, the Coordination Center of Muslims of the North Caucasus stated on July 3.
On July 1, the Mufti of Dagestan, Akhmad-Afandi Abdullayev, announced a fatwa banning the niqab. This happened after the head of the region, Sergei Melikov, spoke out against wearing niqabs following attacks by militants in Derbent and Makhachkala. The Dagestan Muslim Spiritual Directorate, as a religious organization, can issue a fatwa banning the niqab, but this is only a recommendation, and violators of it face a maximum of censure, Islamic scholars noted.

[Regnum] In Dagestan, a court extended the detention of the former head of the Sergokalinsky district, Magomed Omarov, by 72 hours. This was reported by the Supreme Court of the republic.
The decision to extend Omarov's detention was made by the Kirov District Court.
The former head of the Sergokalinsky district was detained under Part 4 of Article 174.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (legalization or laundering of funds or other property acquired as a result of committing a crime, in an especially large amount by an organized group), TASS wrote, citing a source.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on June 23, Omarov was detained and interrogated due to the possible involvement of his sons in the terrorist attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala; searches were conducted at his place of residence. It later became known that among the militants eliminated by the special services was Omarov's 31-year-old son Osman.
On June 25, it became known that Omarov had been detained in a case of petty hooliganism. On July 5, he was released after 10 days of administrative arrest.
However, on July 6, Omarov was detained on suspicion of committing economic crimes, and a criminal case was opened against him.
[Dallas Morning News via Spokesman Review] Above a spartan field near the Oklahoma border, scant clouds skate across the North Texas sky.
Hundreds of solar panels slowly track the morning sun’s path for a direct hit from an energy source 94 million miles away. But not the sheep. They’re tracking JR Howard’s gray Ford F-250 — weaving between rows of solar panels as he lays on the horn. It’s feeding time on this April morning.
Howard, owner of Texas Solar Sheep, has found himself part of a burgeoning industry combining Texans’ ranching sensibilities with the ascendancy of solar energy, a booming electricity source.
The sheep here — white Dorpers — are not known for their wool. They’re here for their appetites, chomping away at the vegetation growing alongside the panels. If some get sold for slaughter, all the better.
The pairing of solar energy and sheep ranching is one of several ways renewable energy resources are being integrated into the Texas landscape — providing a second, reliable source of income that can help farmers and ranchers hang on to a threatened way of life. The trick is finding ways to limit energy production’s impact on agricultural land.
Wind turbines are, in many ways, a more natural fit because they have a relatively small effect on farm and ranchland. Solar power, with an exponentially greater footprint, has struggled to coexist peacefully with agriculture. So far, sheep have proven to be the most natural roommates for photovoltaic cells.
For Howard, it has allowed him to continue doing what he loves: ranching and raising cattle.
Near Denver, Colorado, James McCall has been working for nine years to solve the problem of building solar power projects on agricultural land. An analyst at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, McCall has researched ways to integrate solar power with community-supported gardens and bee hives.
The research has yet to find a viable way to combine large-scale solar and farming, McCall said. In Europe, where energy prices are higher and available land is scarce, solar companies are required to have on-site agriculture.
In the U.S., McCall said, some operators of solar arrays plant small gardens between solar panels to raise peppers, tomatoes, kale and other vegetables. Some have experimented with growing pollinating flowers and bee hives alongside solar cells.
So far, sheep are the most widely accepted agricultural use alongside solar arrays in Texas. Cows are too tall. Goats will jump on top of the panels. "And they’ll chew the wires," McCall said.
Sheep are smaller, nimble and able to maneuver around solar panels without incident. They graze with their heads down, keeping them away from wires while clearing areas beneath solar panels, the American Solar Grazing Association says. 'Solar Grazing Association' - even more infrastructure for the 'solar industry'

[Regnum] Mount Etna on the Italian island of Sicily began to produce fountains of lava on the night of July 7, a column of ash and smoke rose to a height of five kilometers, the EFE agency reports, citing the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy.
It is reported that the volcano's activity is accompanied by constant earthquakes, which have been recorded at an altitude of 2.8 thousand meters.
However, this phenomenon does not pose a threat to cities located near the volcano, the publication specifies. On July 6, due to the large amount of ash, the airport in the city of Catania had to be closed for several hours. Now the airport is operating normally.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, in April, Europe's largest volcano, Etna, began producing smoke rings. Photos and videos of smoke rings over Etna have spread across social networks and the press. The rings consist of a mixture of smoke, steam and gas and are formed due to a fairly rare combination of rapid gas emission and a rod-shaped form.
Mount Etna is one of the most dangerous volcanoes on Earth. It is the largest and most active volcano in Europe and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2013.
