Economy
We're All in This Together - Right?
[Townhall/Bongino] The message was clear, we are all suffering so anyone who complains just needs to suck it up and take the medicine the federal and state governments were prescribing like good little boys and girls.

But were we really "all in it together?" United States Labor Department Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows that we weren’t.

While the private sector lost 22 million jobs from February 2020 to April 2020, and state and local government cut about 1.6 million jobs in response to the pandemic, one group of people prospered during the pandemic — the federal government workforce. The federal workforce actually grew slightly during the pandemic never dipping below the 2.63 million employed at the employment high water mark of the Trump administration and indeed our nation’s history in February 2020.

That’s right, the very people who were so earnestly leading the "we’re all in it together" chant, were not in it at all. And quite frankly, were major beneficiaries of the economic shutdown.
Well, dip me in gravy! But wait! There's more!

And of course there is that "famous" federal bureaucrat work ethic. Since the pandemic, a June 10, 2021 memo from the federal OMB and the federal Office of Personnel Management reports that 60% of the federal workforce is telecommuting, while praising the "many thousands of Federal employees with responsibilities that could not be performed remotely have continued to undertake mission-critical duties at their workplaces and on the frontlines of the national response, day-in and day-out through the pandemic."
Heroes, all. Raises and bonuses all around.

Anyone who has been in Washington, D.C. in the past few months knows that the once busy, bustling downtown remains a virtual ghost town as the hundreds of thousands who would normally inhabit the dozens of federal buildings in the city remain at home, presumably working.

State and local governments, which cannot just print money to pay employees, cut payroll positions pretty aggressively, as the federal government just rolled along as if nothing was happening — employees unaffected with the exception that they did not have to go into the office.
So what does it mean?

The hidden effect of this perverse situation was that the very federal government bureaucrats making recommendations about the balancing act between the economic and public health needs of the nation never felt the economic consequences of their decisions. They had no skin in the game.
Science!

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Gov. Cuomo to Treat Gun Violence Issue Like COVID
Governor Cuomo recently announced that he wants to treat gun violence "like a public health issue," adding, "we want to do with gun violence what we just did with COVID."

"Check on your grandparents, there’s a killer on the loose," Woods reacted, referring to how Cuomo’s administration handled the state’s nursing homes during the Wuhan virus pandemic.

Woods was not the only one to slam the New York governor over his claim that he will take on gun violence in the same manner he took on the coronavirus.

"Kill more people, lie about the death toll and then write a book about it?" tweeted Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean, whose husband lost both of his parents — who were living in long-term care facilities — to the coronavirus last March and April.

Nine States Cutting Income Taxes to Boost Recovery
[Foundation for Economic Education] Finally, some good news. In nine states and counting, residents will owe less on their next state income tax bill as local officials seek to stimulate the economic recovery by lowering taxes.
Spoiler alert: None are on either coast.
Arizona is the latest state to slash income taxes, Fox Business reports, with Governor Doug Ducey signing into law last week a "flat tax" reform that will lower the average Arizonan's tax bill by $340. According to the Tax Foundation, the other states to lower income taxes include Ohio, Idaho, Oklahoma, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, and New Hampshire. Others such as North Carolina and Wisconsin are currently considering doing the same.
Remember the Dems desire to restrict lowering taxes with 'Stimulus' funds? I think the SCOTUS (finally) helped to block that.

Dem PAC Worried Dems DOn't Know Biden's Accomplishments
[Fox News/Bongino] A super PAC supporting President Biden warns that Democrats could face defeat in the 2022 midterm elections if they don't campaign more "aggressively" on Biden's policies. The party in power in the White House traditionally loses seats in Congress during the first midterm election.

A June strategy memo from Unite the Country, obtained by Politico, raised serious concerns that voters are virtually clueless about the successes so far under the Biden Administration. Democrats need to tout the $1.9 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill that Biden signed into law in March and do a better job selling the two infrastructure plans that Biden is currently trying to usher through Congress, the group says.

"Even among voters who have a favorable view of Joe Biden, there is a real lack of information about the specifics of the Biden Agenda," the memo reads.
Boodle to special interests? More Obama Marxisms?

But the memo, based on focus groups with voters in the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, offers a dire warning to Democrats about their hopes of hanging on when their voters aren't even sure about what Biden stands for.
Swing States? Don't they all have Dominion voting systems?

"Unfortunately, the [American Rescue Plan] and these other proposals remain worryingly undefined in the public consciousness and voters are primed with misinformation that helps Republican[s] justify their opposition," the memo obtained by Politico reads. "Democrats must communicate much more aggressively to define success for the ARP and to explain why it is important to pass the American Jobs Act and the American Families Plan."
I thought you had to pass it to know what's in it.

Unite the Country spent about $49 million to help Biden win in 2020, according to data from opensecrets.org. The liberal PAC hasn't announced its spending plans for the midterm elections but intends to target specific groups that are critical to the Biden coalition, including suburban college-educated voters who supported Biden in 2020, Black voters who support Biden but are less likely to turn out in midterm elections, and White working-class voters, particularly women.

Sepp Kuss (USA) Wins Stage 15 Of The Tour de France
Big mountain stage today, with a total of 13,000 feet of climbing. Not bad for an American!
[Cycling News] - Jumbo-Visma climber first American in 10 years to win a Tour stage

Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) won the first big Tour de France mountain stage in the Pyrenees, as attacks from the break of the day and amongst overall contenders produced some entertaining high-altitude racing on the road to Andorra.

Ineos Grenadiers tried to shake-up the race on the 2408metre-high Port d'Envalira climb and Richard Carapaz made an attack on the final Col de Beixalis. That isolated Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) but he then coolly let the other riders attack each other for the podium spots, launching a couple of warning attacks and then sticking to Jonas Vingegaard’s wheel when the Jumbo-Visma rider tried a move.

His teammate Kuss was more successful from the select-rider break that went away from the start of the 191.3km stage. He quickly got a gap on the steep, twisting slopes of the Col de Beixalis and then dived down to Andorra la Vielle to win alone.

That team's main general classification rider, Primoz Roglic, abandoned earlier in the week after getting into a few crashes, so they turned this guy loose since he didn't have to ride in support of the main guy. With any luck, Sepp will be the main guy on a team in a few years.

Talking with my mechanic. Says he just spent $3600 upgrading components on his carbon fiber frame. Two new GoPros, front and back slaved to his iphone for realtime upload to his cloud. New sprockets, carbon rims and push button wireless gear shifting, wireless brakes ("no cables to tension" he says.) GPS tracker for route, speed, alt, el, sweat and heartbeat recording.

Posted by: trailing wife || 07/11/2021 15:45 Comments || Top||

#3  Well, I ride in the Boston area, so I went w/ a titanium frame 25 years ago, as the carbon fiber frames back then snapped way too easily. Stock clincher rims, regular cable brake / shift system (I'll never trust the wireless crap), and none of that disc brake bullshit, as I've heard of serious injuries to riders when them fuckers come flying apart.

My last upgrade was about $800 - Campy Chorus rear derailleur, brake / shifter upgrade (they're integrated so you shift by levers on the brakes), and some other crap. I ride enough so I don't mind spending $ for good components.

I dunno about that dehydrated comment; I just carry lots of water (1/2 Gatorade, 1/2 water) and drink early & often, so that never comes into play with me, even on 90 degree days.

#5  The international game is far more forgiving for the barrage of three pointers which have pretty much ruined the game as far as I'm concerned. Nigeria scored 90 points and I know that there were at least twenty three-point bombs launched by two Nigerian players who got hot as hell at the right time, and they were hitting some deep ones. There's 2/3 of the total score right there.

Also, like it would've mattered much - PHX and MIL are in the NBA Finals (Game 3 coming up tonight), so those guys aren't part of Team USA right now.

Denver maid reports ‘bunch of guns' in hotel room near MLB All-Star Game site; 4 arrests: report
[FoxNews] Police in Colorado feared a possible 'Las Vegas-style' shooting was in the works -- just days after a similar scare in Chicago.

Four suspects were arrested in Denver after a maid working at a hotel near the city’s Coors Field baseball stadium discovered "a bunch of guns laid out" in a room.

Coors Field is scheduled Tuesday night to be the site of MLB’s annual All-Star Game after the event was relocated there from Atlanta earlier this year over Georgia's voting rights law.

But the FBI said there was no immediate indication that the game or any of its related events were being targeted by the suspects.

Police initially feared a "Las Vegas-style shooting" may have been in the works, the Denver Post reported, referring to a massacre in 2017 that left more than 60 concertgoers dead near a Vegas hotel. Just days earlier, authorities in Chicago dealt with a similar concern.

In Friday’s Denver incident, police removed 16 long guns, body armor and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition, the Post reported.

The report of the discovered weapons led to a massive law enforcement response, including SWAT personnel, to the Maven Hotel, according to FOX 31.

On Saturday, authorities said three men and a woman had been arrested, FOX 31 reported. The men were identified as Richard Platt, 42; Gabriel Rodriguez, 48; and Ricardo Rodriguez, 44, all taken into custody as part of an investigation into allegations of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, the station reported.

One of the male suspects posted on Facebook that he was recently divorced and wanted to "go out in a big way," sources told the Post.

The female suspect was identified as Kanoelehua Serikawa, 43, who was being investigated on possible charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.

Two of the male suspects were also being investigated on possible drug charges, FOX 31 reported.

Hotel guest Drake Voell said he and other guests received a phone call telling them to remain in their rooms as police conducted their investigation.

"I asked what was going on and they said there was just a few people that were up to no good on the fourth and the eighth floor," Voell told FOX 31.

They were told that a maid had discovered the weapons and the hotel alerted authorities, he said.

Denver police said they searched two rooms and impounded two vehicles after arriving at the scene, according to the station.

It was unclear if the suspects were arrested at the hotel or at some other location.

Police: Man arrested in San Diego after Chicago slaying of Puerto Rican couple
[10News] Followup on a story from mid-June
A 34-year-old man sought by police in the fatal shooting of a couple at a Puerto Rican culture celebration in Chicago has been arrested in San Diego.

Chicago police on Saturday said Anthony Lorenzi is charged with first-degree murder and is awaiting extradition to Illinois. Lorenzi was arrested Friday by U.S. marshals in San Diego.

Gyovanny Arzuaga and 23-year-old Yasmin Perez were shot June 19 following a parade in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. They were attacked after what police called a minor traffic crash.

Lorenzi is charged in the 24-year-old Arzuaga’s death. Police said Perez may have been shot accidentally in the neck by Arzuaga.

You are Now in the Totalitarian Zone
[American Thinker] Before I get to the bad news, let me start with some good news. Christopher F. Rufo tweets that the revulsion against Critical Race Theory being taught in schools is showing results. Nine states have already banned it: Arizona, Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Hampshire, Iowa, and Idaho. As more people realize this effort to divide us into what Scott Adams calls "losers and assholes" I expect we will see more states banning the teaching of this perfidious, noxious, baseless nonsense. On the other hand, there seems no backing off of it in the military, where it can do nothing but weaken our defense capabilities.

Other good news is that courts are rejecting efforts to scrap voter reform. Voter Reform is winning, and it’s what the voters want:

Scrolling down to the 'bad news.'

The bad news this week, is that the media is still feeding us baloney, the surveillance state is growing and we now have -- with judicial acquiescence -- a group of political prisoners in D.C. and a lunatic FBI dragnet against everyone who was anywhere near the Capitol on January 6.

This is ‘the MOST destructive major company in existence' says Bill O'Reilly, ‘the most DESTRUCTIVE to America'
[Right Scoop] The bad behavior by the left has been even more out of control than usual, lately, enabled as they are by the far left administration of mush brain Biden. And corporations can’t WAIT to be a part of the woke party. From CRT to attacking voting legislation and more, corporations are on the far left bandwagon, even while leftist activists sneer and laugh at the assertion (because they want to trick you and because nothing is ever far left enough for their taste anyway.)

"Good evening, dreamers of all ages," says Disney Corp. in their new intro to the nightly fireworks at their parks. They have removed "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls" because it’s not "inclusive." Bill O’Reilly explains below why that is seditious, wrong, and, in my words, evil.

It’s not innocuous. It’s not minor. It’s not just a greeting. It’s a deliberate attempt to modify language and thinking. And it’s just one facet. Disney owns a lot of other woke garbage, too, including The view.

O’Reilly explains the motivations behind the execs who make these decisions. Listen, via The First.

India-Pakistan
J&K govt sacks 11 employees including Salahuddin's sons
[OneIndia] As many as 11 Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
babus government employees, were sacked for allegedly working as over ground workers for terrorist organizations.

Out of the 11 employees, four are from Anantnag, three from Budgam and one each from Baramulla, Srinagar, Pulwama and Kupwara.

Sons of most wanted terrorist and founder of the terror outfit, Hizbul Mujahideen
...Party of Holy Warriors, founded by Muhammad Ahsan Dar in September 1989. One of the Pak sock puppets waging jihad in Indian Kashmir. It was originally organized as the armed wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. In 1990, Dar declared Hizbul as the sword arm of Jamaat. Hizbul murdered many of the pro-independence intelligentsia in Kashmir. After the organization was taken over by Syed Salahuddin Dar and several other ex-Hizb leaders were assassinated between 2001 and 2003...
founder Syed Salahudin among those dismissed from service by J&K govt. Sons, Syed Ahmad Shakeel and Shahid Yousuf were also involved in terror funding.

Salahuddin has been designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the United States. They were involved in raising, receiving, collecting and transferring funds through Hawala (non-banking) transactions for terror activities of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen,

They were dismissed designated under Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution. The designated committee in Jammu and Kashmir in its second and fourth meeting, recommended three and eight cases, respectively, for their dismissal from government service.

Of the 11 employees dismissed, four were working in the education department, two in the Jammu Kashmir Police and one each in the agriculture, skill development, power and health departments, and SKIMS, the officials said.

Earlier seven employees, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Davinder Singh and an assistant professor, were dismissed by the Union Territory's administration.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Jewish man assaulted in Brooklyn in apparent antisemitic attack
[IsraelTimes] Police search for suspect who punched, threw furniture and made hateful statements toward victim; Governor Cuomo: ’This is antisemitism, plain and simple’.

A Jewish man was punched and attacked with a piece of furniture in an apparent hate crime in New York on Monday.

The 25-year-old victim was punched in the chest and then struck in the back with what appeared to be a piece of a drawer.

Police said they were looking for the suspect who was seen in security camera footage breaking off the piece of furniture and attacking the man, before fleeing the scene in Brooklyn.

The suspect also made anti-Jewish statements toward the victim, according to the NYPD.

The victim reported pain in his back and chest following the assault, but refused medical attention, NBC reported.

New York Governor Andrew Sonny Cuomo
...Dem dynastic governor of Noo Yawk, the son and heir of the late Mario Cuoma and formerly married to a Kennedy. Acclaimed for his leadership during the COVID epidemic, he managed the nation's highest corpse count while successfully hiding the returns and writing a book praising himself. Among the nation's horniest politicians, he has about a dozen allegations of sexual harrassment and groping against him. Noo Yawk's politix being what they are, he is still hanging tough, waiting to ride it out....
directed the state’s Hate Crimes Task Force to offer assistance in the investigation.

"I am disgusted to learn of another attack against a member of our Jewish community — in broad daylight," Cuomo tweeted on Friday.

"This is antisemitism, plain and simple. It’s abhorrent and unacceptable, and these hateful acts have absolutely no place in New York," the governor added.

In May, Jews in New York City experienced a string of assaults and attacks connected to the round of fighting between Israel and Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,.

In the days following, Jews across New York posted on social media about being threatened, harassed or otherwise attacked for being Jewish. The reports were reminiscent of a string of antisemitic incidents in New York in the months before the pandemic shut down street life globally. Nationwide, the Anti-Defamation League recorded an increase in antisemitic incidents in the first week of the Israel-Hamas fighting.

Gazans nabbed after infiltrating into Israel armed with knives
[IsraelTimes] Four Paleostinians, some armed with knives, were detained by Israel Defense Force soldiers after infiltrating into southern Israel on Saturday, the military said.

On Saturday morning, an unarmed Paleostinian, who crossed into Israel from the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip through the southern section of the border fence, was detained and questioned by IDF soldiers.

Later Saturday, three suspects carrying a number of knives were detained by soldiers in the same area after infiltrating from the coastal enclave, according to the IDF.

The army said the suspects were questioned at the scene, but did not clarify if they were taken for further questioning or returned to the Strip.

While Israel has a high-tech series of fences and walls guarding its frontier with Gaza, both above and below ground, a number of gaps remain in the steel fencing surrounding the Strip. In times of low visibility, these gaps have been used by Paleostinians in Gaza to illegally enter Israeli territory, often with hopes of fleeing the beleaguered enclave.

While attacks on Israeli civilians by those infiltrating from Gaza are rare, in May, a Paleostinian man, who crossed into Israel armed with several knives, attacked and lightly maimed a security guard some five kilometers from the border fence.

Though Paleostinians regularly attempt to cross into Israel from Gaza, it is highly uncommon for them to make it so far into Israeli territory without being seen and detained by Israeli troops.

Smuggled guns from Lebanon were meant for terror; largest bust in years — TV
[IsraelTimes] Officials say they can’t remember such a catch; believe Hezbollah prefers to facilitate attacks within Israel rather than on the border.

Earlier this month Adraee pointed toward a senior Hezbollah official by the name of Hajj Khalil Harb as the one responsible for coordinating smuggling attempts into northern Israel.
Israeli security officials believe dozens of weapons seized on the Lebanese border overnight as they were being smuggled into the country were destined to be used in terror attacks inside Israel, according to television reports on Saturday.

According to Kan and Channel 13 news, officials believe the weapons and ammunition were meant for Arab Israeli terror operatives, with backing from Lebanese terror group Hezbollah.

#2  From Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt.

"Lebanon was conquered by the Ottomans in the 16th century and remained under their rule for the next 400 years. Following the empire's collapse after World War I, the five provinces constituting modern Lebanon came under the French Mandate. The French expanded the borders of the Mount Lebanon Governorate, which was predominately Maronite and Druze, to include more Muslims.[citation needed] Upon independence in 1943, Lebanon established a unique confessionalist form of government, with the major religious sects apportioned specific political powers. Lebanon initially enjoyed political and economic stability, which was shattered by the bloody Lebanese Civil War (1975–1990) between various political and sectarian factions. The war partially led to military occupations by Syria (1975 to 2005) and Israel (1985 to 2000)."

I wonder if this is the root of their problems?

Gallery Showing Hunter Biden Paintings is Vandalized
[WashingtonExaminer] A man accused of vandalizing Hunter Biden's art gallery and attacking an employee has been arrested, police say.

Rodrick Webber, 47, was detained at approximately 3:40 p.m. Friday at the George Burgess Art Gallery in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City after he defaced artwork inside the gallery, representatives for the New York Police Department said in an email to the Washington Examiner.

Webber allegedly spray-painted the word "Daddy" on a wall inside the gallery, damaging a painting worth $14,500...
I think there was no damage to any of Hunter's paintings
Not that physical damage would reduce their artistic value, and might actually add to their sales price — now they’d have an interesting story.

#6  Hunter's Inspiration or a Muse ?

A muse is someone who provides a source of inspiration for an artist. Instilling a renewed sense of passion in the artist to create better works, the muse is often a female; however, many men have also provided artistic inspiration. From lovers to spouses to friends, inspiration comes from many different individuals.

Other individuals of note have said otherwise, not referring to a muse, but to there interpretation of their worlds. James MacNeill Whistler. "Every artist dips his brush in his own soul and paints his own nature into his pictures.". -- Henry Ward Beecher. "Happy are the painters, for they shall not be lonely. Light and colour, peace and hope, will keep them company to the end of the day." -- Winston Churchill.

The people, who view their artistic works, seem to search for the artists inspirations for their works.

He said he was fortunate that his relatives in Mali had paid a ransom to secure his release from the hands of migrant detention center guards, "Each time, I had to pay a ransom of 3,000 Libyan dinars to get out," he said.

"The guards treat us badly: they hit us for no reason. They open the cell door and just hit us. Whenever they came to the door, I hid in the back of the room so I wouldn’t be beaten," he added.

Separate Cossack units to appear in Russian Guard
Direct translation of the article via Google Translate.
[REGNUM] President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin supported the idea of creating separate Cossack units within the structure of the National Guard.
They’ll enjoy that — a return to their historic roots guarding Russia’s border.
This was announced today, July 10, by the plenipotentiary of the President in the North Caucasus Federal District Yuri Chaika, speaking in Nalchik at the Eurasian Forum of Cossack Youth "Cossack Unity - 2021".

According to Chaika, we are talking about the formation of territorial divisions of the Russian Guard, among which there will be special Cossack divisions. Chaika said that he had already written a letter to the President of Russia and the Russian leader supported the initiative.

Chaika stressed that purely Cossack units would be created.

“These will be, we think, Cossack regiments, battalions will be created, namely exclusively Cossack ones. They will be located at the place of deployment, at the place of residence of the Cossacks. This is our thought, idea. It is difficult to say how we are implementing it, but we will try to implement it in such a plane, ”the plenipotentiary said.

As previously reported by IA REGNUM , Chaika came up with a similar initiative back in March 2021. Then he proposed to involve the Cossacks in protecting state facilities and ensuring public safety. Chaika also said that it was necessary to establish cooperation between the Cossacks and units of the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard.

Germany: Court fines 4 in major refugee abuse case
[DW] Years after an asylum center video sparked outrage in Germany, a court has fined former guards and a social worker for physically and verbally abusing refugees.

A German court on Wednesday fined four people for mistreating refugees at an asylum center in the small western town of Burbach, broadcaster NDR reported.

The case sparked outrage when cellphone footage of the abuse became public in late 2014.

The court in the western city of Siegen ordered three former guards at the asylum center and a social worker to pay fines ranging from €900 to €3,500 ($1,065-$4,100) for deprivation of liberty.

One of the four tried Wednesday was also convicted of coercion.

WHAT IS THE CASE AGAINST THE GUARDS?
The security guards physically and verbally abused refugees in a "problem room," where they were illegally locked up for days for allegedly violating the house rules, the court said. In nine incidents, the guards had put refugees in this room to "discipline" them for minor infractions such as smoking in their rooms, according to the verdict.

WHAT HAPPENED AT THE ASYLUM CENTER?
The scandal sent shock waves through Germany when the gruesome footage became public. In one of the leaked photos, a security guard posed with his foot on the neck of a handcuffed refugee, who had been beaten unconscious before the photo was taken. Other footage showed a refugee being forced to lie on a mattress stained with vomit.

In November 2018, the trial began against 38 defendants, including guards, social workers and city employees. The court handed down sentences against 14 of them.

The court also acquitted six defendants and dismissed five. Eight independent trials are still ongoing.

The company European Home Care (EHC) had operated the refugee facility at the time of the abuse. The German Red Thingy took over operations at the refugee facility after the scandal.

President Ghani Inaugurates Khost Airport
Better transportation is always good, and this will make it easier to bring in Afghan Army commandos as needed.
[ToloNews] President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
inaugurated the Khost Airport during his trip to the province on Saturday morning.

Ghani visited Khost province
... across the border from Miranshah, within commuting distance of Haqqani hangouts such as Datta Khel and probably within sight of Mordor. Khost is populated by six different tribes of Pashtuns, the largest probably being the Khostwal, from which it takes its name...
along with the First Vice President Amrullah Saleh and other high-ranking officials where he will hold talks with security officials and some residents of the province, the Presidential Palace said.

Khost Airport project costs 900 million Afs ($11 million) and it has been built based on international norms, according to officials.

The construction of the airport was started 10 years ago. The first international flight landed at the airport last month.

Pakistan: The ordeal of 'abandoned wives' left behind by UK families

Person found dead after kidnapped by gunmen in Syria's Deir ez-Zor
[NPASYRIA] On Saturday, residents of the town of al-Jirzi in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, found the body of a young man a day after he was kidnapped by button men.

A source of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town said that the residents found the body of Muhammad al-Hamad where he was rubbed out.

The source added that al-Hamad was not affiliated with any military faction or political wing.

He pointed out that yesterday, unidentified button men kidnapped al-Hamad after he left the house of one of his relatives.

Recently, the liquidations of members of the SDF, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal dignitaries and the civilian population have increased.

Five days ago, ISIS claimed the liquidation of a civilian on charges of dealing with SDF in the town of al-Zer, east of Deir ez-Zor.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
In recent weeks, a spate of car accidents involving human smugglers has plagued the city streets of Laredo, Texas, endangering the public, and in one case, costing the lives of migrants.
[Breitbart]

Related: On Wednesday, Texas Highway Patrol Troopers stopped a Katy, Texas, man traveling south on Interstate 35 near Laredo. Suspecting something was amiss, the troopers escorted the beige SUV to a Border Patrol checkpoint for a more detailed search.
[Breitbart] In all, $389,620 USD were kept in the packages. Troopers seized the currency, vehicle, and arrested the driver–a U.S. citizen from the Houston metro.

More than 1,000 troopers and Texas Army National Guard are deployed to the border regions to address the current migrant crisis. Operation Lone Star launched in March.

Texas Department of Public Safety personnel and the Army National Guard troops working Operation Lone Star have made more than 1,870 criminal arrests and another 45,800 migrant apprehensions or referrals. Additionally, there have been 433 vehicle pursuits, and DPS has seized more than 620 pounds of cocaine and meth, 151 firearms, and nearly $2 million cash.

This incident highlights the importance of the I-35 corridor to Mexican cartels who use the route to smuggle migrants and narcotics into the United States. The route also serves to quickly transport their proceeds south.

'We need help': Haiti's interim leader requests US troops
See also here, for the adventure at the Taiwanese embassy.
[AlAhram] Mathias Pierre, Haiti's elections minister, defended the government's request military assistance, saying in an interview Saturday with The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that the local police force is weak and lacks resources

Haiti's interim government has asked the U.S. and U.N. to deploy troops to protect key infrastructure as it tries to stabilize the country and prepare for elections in the aftermath of President Jovenel Moise's liquidation.

The stunning request for U.S. military support recalled the tumult following Haiti's last presidential liquidation, in 1915, when an angry mob dragged President Vilbrun Guillaume Sam out of the French Embassy and beat him to death. In response, President Woodrow Wilson sent the Marines into Haiti, justifying the American military occupation _ which lasted nearly two decades _ as a way to avert anarchy.

[Just The News] White House: FBI, Homeland Security officials to Haiti 'as soon as possible,' after assassination - Haitian President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated overnight Wednesday.

The U.S. will send FBI and Department of Homeland Security officials to Haiti to help the struggling county after President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated earlier in the week, the White House said Friday.

"In response to the Haitian government's request for security and investigative assistance, we will be sending senior FBI and DHS officials to Port-au-Prince as soon as possible to assess the situation and how we may be able to assist," said White House press secretary Jen Psaki, according to Fox News.

Psaki did not say how many officials will travel to the country or when they will leave.

The U.S. is also sending a shipment of coronavirus vaccines and $5 million to the Haitian National Police to combat gang violence. Haitians will be given a Temporary Protected Status for 18 months to allow individuals to flee the country.

Haitian officials have already apprehended six men in connection to the assassination, two of whom are Haitian-Americans.

#4  Haitian Opposition Leader Hired American Lobbyist Two Days Before Assassination of Haiti’s President

According to Pierre Reginald Boulos, he hired the lobbyist in order for the Biden administration to support an interim government in Haiti.

The timing of Pierre’s hiring of the lobbyist is raising some red flags, considering he hired the lobbyist only two days before the President’s death.

After all, interim governments are usually established after a leader suddenly dies or a revolution occurs. So, it almost appears as if Haitian opposition leader Pierre Reginald Boulos knew something was about to happen.

Muslims face increase in online attacks in Europe
[DW] Muslims across Europe experience hate speech, threats and physical attacks. Now the Council of Europe, the continent's leading human rights organization, is debating countermeasures.
So are Jews and Christians, but who in Europe is protecting them?
"And the tree will say 'O Christian or Jew, there is a Moslem hiding behind me! Come and kill him!'"
Imam A.* remembers paint attacks on his mosque in a small western German town: "Several years ago someone spray-painted huge swastikas right across our walls and windows," he remembers. And the number of such attacks has increased markedly in recent years, he says.

In 2020 alone there were more than 1,000 criminal incidents and almost 150 physical attacks on mosques across Germany.
Anti-Moslem sentiment and antisemitism have become an everyday occurrence in Germany. The country's Interior Ministry registered 1,026 anti-Moslem attacks in 2020. It is suspected that many more have occurred but have not been reported.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran officials: No casualties from reported Tehran explosion
[SHAFAQ] Iranian police said a reported explosion early Saturday at a public park near state TV headquarters in the capital Tehran caused no casualties or damage, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Tehran deputy police chief Gen. Hamid Hodavand said the case was under investigation and details would be provided later. He accused foreign media outlets of exaggerating the reported blast.

At 12:52 a.m. Iranian media reported a kaboom in northern Tehran followed by dozens of posts from individuals on social media.

Later, state TV showed deputy Tehran Gov. Ali Reza Goudarzi in front of Mellat Park saying rescue teams, firefighters and police found no sign of a kaboom, fire or damage in the area.

Occasionally, Iranian media have reported on flash-bang grenades exploding without giving details. Those grenades are designed to emit a loud sound and a flash of light without causing serious damage.

The 34-hectare (84-acre) park is located on the southern side of the 120 hectare (295-acre) site of the state broadcasting company, which includes several buildings.

Eric Adams' win in high-crime areas proves liberals are out of touch
[NYPOST] If there’s a lesson to be learned from the Democratic mayoral primary — and there definitely is one! — it’s that it’s easy to ignore street violence when there’s very little street violence to be seen. Such is the oblivious attitude of mostly white Manhattanites who voted against Eric Adams
...retired New York City police captain, member of the New York State Senate, first Black Brooklyn borough president, law and order Dem after a brief fling with the Publicans. The New York Times isn't fond of him, suspecting he may not actually be black...
, the only real law-and-order candidate in the race.

The de Blasio-era rise in violence did not impact all areas of Gotham equally. Not even close.

Inhabitants of lower-income, high-crime, mostly minority neighborhoods turned out for Adams in huge numbers, up to 70 percent of votes. The only major candidate who pledged crime-fighting strategies with real teeth, he earned the New York Post’s endorsement for making public safety his campaign’s centerpiece.

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia had made her point with her knee to Jane's stomach...
the neighborhoods that voted for Kathryn Garcia (and her wishy-washy crime-fighting strategy of replacing the NYPD’s "warrior culture" with a "guardian mindset," whatever that means) are among the city’s least dangerous, as shown by NYPD CompStat data for each of the city’s 77 precincts.

Adams, who was himself a cop for 22 years, wants to put more officers on the street and bring back undercover anti-crime units. He even suggested that stop-and-frisk — horrors! — can be part of a legitimate law-enforcement strategy.

If you listen to "progressives," black and Hispanic New Yorkers — some of whom have indeed endured police abuses — ought to recoil over Adams’ positions. Fortunately, those minority voters instead heeded the evidence witnessed by their own eyes.

The leftist media is scrambling to explain away Adams’ triumph in terms of a "platform that was part law-and-order, part police reform," as The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

put it. But Adams’ voters feared a stray bullet entering their living rooms more than they did rogue actions by a handful of bad cops. While every candidate pledged to curb errant officers, only Adams pledged to go after the bad guys on the streets.

The sections of Manhattan that voted for Garcia are the safest bubble within the bubble. Despite a few widely reported outrages, such as a tourist hit by a stray bullet in Times Square and nightly mayhem in Washington Square Park, most Manhattan districts are barely any more dangerous than they were prior to 2020, when misguided anti-bail laws and anti-cop sentiment allowed criminals to run free.

Guess how many murders have happened so far this year in my own vast, Upper East Side 19th Precinct, extending from East 59th to 96th street and from the East River to Central Park. Exactly one, along with three shootings. Garcia took most of the election districts here, with 36-45 percent of the votes compared to 15-22 percent for Adams.

ISIS militants killed in Somalia's Puntland as war on terror intensifies

[Garowe] A top police commander survived a serious kaboom in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, officials said, in an attack that comes barely three months after he took over security responsibilities in the Horn of Africa nation.

Colonel Farhan Mohamud Adan alias Qarole, was targeted by a huge explosion in Banadir junction within the capital, but he managed to escape unhurt, sources said. It's the first major attack targeting a senior government official in as many months.

Police sources said at least five of his security guards went titzup, while others were seriously injured. It's not clear where the police boss was headed to but Saturdays are normal working days in Somalia where most citizens subscribe to Islam.

"Banaadir Police Chief Farxaan Qaroole survives suicide boom-mobile in Mogadishu," state media reported, without giving many details on the casualties and possible evacuation processes by members of the security forces.

Photos taken from the site painted pictures of a deadly explosion that dismantled several vehicles and the surrounding vicinity, leaving wreckages behind. The Somali government is yet to issue an official statement with regard to the blast.

While no group is yet to take responsibility, such attacks are synonymous with the al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
group, which controls large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia. The group often targets senior government officials, security forces, and at times, innocent civilians.

Colonel Qarole was appointed in April after his predecessor Brigadier General Sadik John was fired after he opposed term extensions for Farmajo's term. The rebellion forced the president to allow talks on the conduction of elections in the country.

Col Farhan Qarole was an al-Shabaab defector, a further indication of why the group may have targeted him. The al-Shabaab often seeks to Dire Revenge against members who support the government agenda through defections.

The al-Shabaab hard boyz have suffered immense defeats in recent months following an operation by the Somali National Army [SNA], which is keen to topple the group from its traditional strongholds. The country has been struggling with instability for three decades.
Al Ahram adds:
A large explosion in Somalia's capital killed at least nine people and injured eight others, a health official said Saturday.
Dr. Mohammed Nur at the Medina Hospital told news hounds that the toll reflected only the dead and maimed who were taken to the facility in Mogadishu where he works.

``I am sure the number is bigger as some of the victims were rushed to other hospitals, such as the privately owned ones,'' he said.

The al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
bad boy group grabbed credit.

Afghanistan
Iran, not worried about security on border with Afghanistan
[KhaamaPress] Iran’s foreign ministry has recently said that the border guards of are protecting borders with Afghanistan and there is no concern about the insecurity that erupted in western Afghanistan adjacent to Iran.

Spokesman of the ministry Saeed Khatibzada in a conference confirmed that the borders of Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. are safe and peaceful.

The Commander of the Army of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran has also said that the eastern border with Afghanistan is safe and peaceful and there is nothing to worry about when it comes to insecurity.

Khatibzada has also confirmed that a number of staff of Islam-Qala and Abu Nasr Farahi custom facilities have crossed the border into Iran after insecurity erupted in the dry ports.

Nearly 2000 Afghan government Forces members had also crossed northern borders into Tajikistan after the Taliban

took several districts of Badakhshan province bordering Tajikistan.

The confidence about the security of the Iranian border with Afghanistan in the west comes at a time when Pakistain’s foreign minister Mahmoud Quraishi said in Pakistain’s parliament yesterday that Iran will equally plunge into the crisis of Afghan refugees like Pakistain in case another civil war erupts in Afghanistan.

Iraq
Iraq to resort to United Nations to return its water rights from Iran, Ministry says
[SHAFAQ] Iraq’s Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Rashid al-Hamdani, threatened on Saturday that Baghdad will resort to international community to get hold of its rights of water from Iran.

Al-Hamdani said in a presser, The Iranian side has not shown any response to us and is still cutting off water from several rivers and streams, which has caused severe damage to the residents of Diyala, which directly depends on the water coming from Iran."

The Minister added that, "If Iran

"We refuse to go to such solutions, and the matter depends on the cooperation of the Iranian side according to the foundations of good-neighborly relations and common interests." He said.

"Iran helped us in the war against ISIS, and we hope for continued cooperation in sharing the damages of water scarcity, similar to the Ottoman Turkish side, which shares the damages of the water crisis with Iraq."

It is noteworthy, Diyala is now living under the worst water crisis in its history due to the lack of rain and cutting off rivers and streams water by neighboring countries, in addition to poor storage of water releases from Lake Hemrin, the largest water reserve in Diyala.

Possibility of civil war in Afghanistan, sez Atta Muhammad Noor
[KhaamaPress] Former warlord in the north of Afghanistan Atta Muhammad Noor
...Balkh-born Tajik who fought against the Soviets in the Mujahideen — they called him The Teacher for his passion for educating the fighters — then against the Taliban in the Northern Alliance, then was appointed governor of Balk province by President Hamid Karzai, in which role he introduced stability and erased poppy cultivation...
in an interview with News Agency that Dare Not be Named blamed both the Afghan government and the US for "irresponsible" withdrawal for the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
’s recent development in particular in gaining territories.

Noor warned that the ongoing situation is quite dangerous and there is a real possibility of another civil war in Afghanistan

He criticized the US for its quick exit from Afghanistan which has left Afghan Security Forces unprepared for the Taliban offensive and totally demoralized.

The former prominent warlord was apparently caught by surprised confessing that he did not expect the Taliban to take 19 districts in 24 hours in northern Badakhshan province.

Once, the governor of northern Balkh province, Atta Muhammad Noor has said in the interview that the Afghan government often leaves Afghan military members without reinforcement and food and paid their salaries irregularly and the situation has given momentum to the Taliban to take more districts even without a fight.

As per Noor, he had advised the Afghan government to unify and to work on the morale of the military but he complained that was not taken seriously.

He also attacked the Afghan government for mistakenly use of the commandos who are given the jobs of holding checkpoints the one for which they have not been trained. Noor added that though well-trained, the Afghan pilots are not given enough rest and are overused as a result most of the planes are on the ground.

Atta Muhammad Noor paid gratitude to the money and manpower given by the US to Afghanistan but complained that the country did less when it comes to making Afghanistan self-sufficient.

He pledged to mobilize his militia to recapture the seized districts of Blakh province back from the Taliban.

#13  My comment was meant to be more like this except it was worded while drunk last night TW.

My dear, I’m awful at noticing drunkenness even when I literally kept company while the other person drank copious amounts — we’ve run the experiment.

I agree that we cannot civilize cultures that are not suited to it. We ran that experiment for twenty years, trying to win hearts and minds with love instead of listening to Machiavelli — teaching them to fear the consequences of misbehaviour. But I also don’t want to indulge them with another opportunity to build up to another 9/11.

Back in 2011, Dave D. wrote the following:

The War on Islamic Terrorism:
What Are Our Options?

If you inventory the full range of options we have for dealing with Islamic terrorism, it turns out there aren't very many of them: fewer than a dozen in all. And they're all bad. Some come up short for the simple reason that they won't work; some because they'd require massive curtailment of our own civil liberties; and some because they would require a level of ruthlessness that most Americans would find repulsive.

Here are the basic options, arranged in roughly ascending order of savagery:

SURRENDER:

Islam's stated mission-- and to Muslims, their manifest destiny-- is to convert the entire world to Islam; we could dispense with this entire war just by becoming Muslims and being done with it. Bow our heads before their hateful god, and accept our fate.

APPEASEMENT:

We could try buying them off by giving them what they say they want: let them wipe Israel off the map and indulge their appetite for murdering Jews; set up shariah courts as a parallel legal system here in the US; teach Islam in our public schools; give special rights to Muslims in America; increase Muslim immigration; increase foreign aid to Muslim countries; open up a "dialog" with the Islamists to promote "mutual understanding"; try diplomacy; whatever. Be nice enough to them, and maybe they'll stop attacking us.

IGNORE THE ATTACKS:

We could try to just ignore atrocities like the Islamic attacks on 9/11 and in Madrid, London, Bali, Israel and Beslan, and chalk such things up as the necessary price for coexisting with Islam. They're violent savages, and we may as well get used to getting hit every so often.

ISOLATE OURSELVES:

We could try withdrawing from the rest of the world and its troubles, keeping our heads down and maintaining a low global profile. Stop the de facto exportation of American/Western culture, if that is what's driving them nuts. And whatever shitstorm breaks loose, just ignore it.

CRIMINAL PROSECUTION:

We could go back to the "Law Enforcement Approach": treating Islamic terrorism as a purely criminal matter just like we did during the Clinton administration, hunting down terrorists who attack us and prosecuting them for their crimes-- but only AFTER they've committed them. The Democratic Party has been making it increasingly clear that this is their preferred approach: the "civil liberties" crowd loves it, and it makes lots of work for lawyers and judges.

LIBERATION & REFORM:

We can do what we're doing right now in Iraq and Afghanistan, which is trying to see if Arab/Islamic society can be detoxified by introducing democratic self-governance. Maybe it can; maybe it can't. We'll see.

Frankly, the results don't look very promising so far; but barring some catastrophe we'll keep trying there at least so long as Bush is in office. After that, though, people are going to insist on coming to conclusions and I suspect many will conclude that liberation and reform of Islamic society is not going to quell the Islamic tendency toward violence.

DOMESTIC OPPRESSION:

We could try to prevent terrorist attacks by turning America into a police state, complete with intrusive government monitoring of all aspects of our lives and the suspension of habeus corpus. Anyone even suspected of terrorist activity or radical Islamic sympathies simply disappears in the middle of the night along with their entire family. People live in constant fear of the authorities.

NOTE: this is what the "Law Enforcement Approach" will morph into when it proves ineffective.

CONQUEST & SUBJUGATION:

We could invade Muslim countries, execute their political and religious leaders, outlaw Islam and bulldoze their mosques, and rule them all with an iron fist. Conquer them, rule them, and extirpate the Islamic menace by force.

INTIMIDATION / DETERRENCE:

We could respond to terrorist attacks on American soil with extravagently disproportionate retaliation against the cities and infrastructure of the Muslim world: kill a thousand of us, and we'll kill a million of you. Repeated often enough, and brutally enough, this might eventually deter them from further terrorist attacks.

EXPULSION & QUARANTINE:

We could outlaw Islam within the U.S. and expel all Muslims, citizens or not. Forbid entry into the U.S.-- even for brief visits-- to all Muslims regardless of their country of origin and to all nationals, regardless of religion, from countries that are predominantly Muslim. Seal the Canadian and Mexican borders tight with orders to shoot to kill, and NOT bother asking questions later.

EXTERMINATION:

We could end this 1,400 year struggle between Islam and the West once and for all, with a war that would last barely a half-hour: simply nuke the entire Islamic world and then let our descendents inherit the guilt from murdering a billion people.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
‘Cyber disruption’ stops websites of the Iranian ministry Saturday
[AlAhran] Websites of Iran's transport and urbanization ministry Saturday went out of service after a 'cyber disruption' in computer systems of its staff, the official IRNA news agency reported

The report did not elaborate but said the case is under investigation. This is the second abnormality in computer systems related to the ministry.

On Friday, Iran's railroad system came under cyberattack with hackers posting fake messages about alleged train delays or cancellations on display boards at stations across the country. It came after the electronic tracking system on trains across Iran

failed.

Also on Saturday, minister of telecommunications, Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi warned about possible cyberattacks though ransomwares. In 2018 Iran reported similar attacks.

In December that year, Iran's telecommunications ministry said the country had defused a massive cyberattack on unspecified ``electronic infrastructure'' but provided no specifics on the purported attack.

No group has so far taken responsibility of the either incidents.

In 2019, an error in the railway company's computer servers caused multiple delays in train services.

It was not clear if the reported attack caused any damage or disruptions in Iran's computer and internet systems.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Fox News' Planned 24-hour Weather Channel Has Climate Experts Worried
[Guardian] Fox News Media, the company that owns the reactionary, climate crisis-skeptical Fox News, is launching a weather channel this year — a development that has climate crisis experts worried.
"We won't be able to control what they say!"
Fox Weather, a 24-hour channel devoted to all things meteorological, promises "cutting-edge display technology", according to a press release, with "forecasting experts surrounding every major weather event".

But it is Fox News’ output, and the potential for Fox Weather to adopt a similar tone to its sister channel, that has onlookers concerned. Hosts on Fox News have spent years rubbishing or undermining the idea of manmade climate breakdown, and the fact that two Fox News-linked executives are behind the weather channel launch doesn’t bode well.

"Fox News has access to and is highly trusted by a wide range of conservative Americans — which is precisely the audience that least well understands the serious threats that climate change poses to the safety, security and health of all Americans," said some guy.
"We can't have those gap-toothed sister-marrying hillbillies trying to think for themselves."
"If Fox chooses to use its access and credibility to inform viewers about the realities of climate change and its impacts on the weather, it could be a game changer. Conversely, if it opts to perpetuate misinformation to advance political goals, it will be a huge disservice to all Americans — conservative, liberal and moderate," the same guy said.
"Suppose my grant doesn't get renewed? Will I have to learn to code?"

Paul Verhoeven's Lesbian Nun Drama 'Benedetta' Wows Critics

[THEWRAP] Paul Verhoeven’s lesbian nun drama "Benedetta" just premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, and early viewers took to social media to praise the film and the filmmaker’s direction.

"Absolute Verhoeven," World of Reel’s Jordan Ruimy said. "Erotic, violent mostly peaceful, religiously sinful and absurdist. You have never seen a movie quite like this one. It’s a feminist take on Christ. If Virginie Efira doesn’t win Best Actress then there is no God."

Fandango’s Brian Formo added: "Is ’Benedetta’ one of Paul Verhoeven’s best? No. But is it one of his most subversive? Absolutely. It’s a riot. Let yourself be surprised. It makes sense that it’s released same day in La Belle France as #Cannes premiere. ’Lesbian nuns’ is only the half of it."

Government Corruption
Ashli Babbit's Shooter Named Again
[Epoch Times] Now a new name has surfaced in the Babbitt imbroglio‐Lt. Michael L. Byrd‐and while USCP Communications Director Eva Malecki won't confirm he is the shooter, in this case she isn't denying it.

In a little-noticed exchange, Byrd was cited by the acting House sergeant at arms during a brief discussion of the officer who shot Babbitt at a Feb. 25 House hearing.
No leaks to the NYT on that little tidbit?
Both C-SPAN and CNN removed his name from transcripts, but CQ Transcripts‐which, according to its website, provides "the complete word from Capitol Hill; exactly as it was spoken"‐recorded the Capitol official, Timothy Blodgett, referring to the cop as "Officer Byrd." His name is clearly audible in the videotape of the hearing (see video embed further below).

Byrd appears to match the description of the shooter, who video footage shows is an African American dressed that day in a business suit. Jewelry, including a beaded bracelet and lapel pin, also match up with photos of Byrd.

In addition, Byrd's resume lines up with what is known about the experience and position of the officer involved in the shooting‐a veteran USCP officer who holds the rank of lieutenant and is the commander of the House Chamber Section of the Capitol Police.

Following the shooting, Byrd's Internet footprint was scrubbed, including his social media and personal photos.
Coincidence? I think not.
Because Congress has exempted the USCP from Freedom of Information Act requests, the family is suing the D.C. Police "for documents that identify the officer who shot Babbitt … as well as notes and summaries of what the officer said regarding the shooting and the reasons he discharged his weapon." (The D.C. Police has led the investigation into Babbitt's shooting.) A hearing before a judge is scheduled for Sept. 3. Washington-based watchdog Judicial Watch also is suing for the records.
Yet another requirement the Congress has exempted itself from.

Once again... US Congress has placed itself above the same level of investigation that it demands and imposes on others (eg. Trump).

#2  There are at least three people who are showing weapons about the time of the shooting.

Third photo prior to the shooting.

It would seem that the photo was probably captured from Capital building surveillance video. If it were video wouldn't it be likely that there are other frames after the frame shown in Photo 3. One might assume it might capture the shooter and shooting at the moment of the shooting. It should provide an accurate timeline of the shooting.

If the authorities play it straight, answer the complaint and aren't a part of a cover-up, it ought to be possible to get to the bottom of this shooting:

Information sought in complaint.

But then again, these are not normal times.

Afghanistan
Afghan Forces Apply More Measures to Protect Bagram Airfield
[ToloNews] The Afghan National Army forces have increased security measures around Bagram Airfield, the Defense Ministry said, days after the US forces left the base following two decades of presence there.

The Defense Ministry said that the Afghan forces will use the base for counterterrorism purposes.

"Bagram Airfield will be used as a powerful center for command of operations and the deployment of the second units of the Air Force," said Rohullah Ahmadzai, front man for the Ministry of Defense.

"We will defend our nation as well as our dignity and pride until the last drop of our blood," said Sayed Mohammad, an Afghan National Army officer at Bagram Airfield.

"We are deployed here in Bagram. We are fully prepared to defend and secure this area," said Ehsan, an Afghan National Army officer.

Some residents of Bagram district said that two decades of US presence in Bagram did not change the situation in Afghanistan, calling on the warring parties to agree on peace.

Russia Dismisses Albanian Spying charges
[BalkanInsight] Russian Ministry of Foreign Matters has shrugged off reports that two spies entered Albania in May, and were being investigated for spying on the US-led military exercise Defender Europe.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry on Friday accused Albanian media of "fueling hype around the criminal cases opened by local prosecutors against two Russians allegedly suspected of espionage," calling the whole affair "NATO propaganda."

In late June media in Albania reported that two Russian citizens were under investigation by the Prosecution in Tirana for alleged espionage during the US-led military exercise Defender Europe 21 held in Albania in April and May.

Local media said that one of the Russians had entered Albania on May 12, after which a drone was found on him, and he had declared his destination as Durres, which was where the Defender Europe 21 exercise was taking place.

According to Euronews Albania, he was one of two Russian nationals who entered Albania and were being investigated by the Tirana Prosecution.

The Prosecution told BIRN last week that it was still investigating "the existence of the fact" on this issue. After BIRN tried to contact the Albanian ministry over the issue, it could not obtain a response. BIRN contacted the Prosecution of Tirana also about the case, which said it was "still under investigation." State Police did not want to comment when asked by BIRN.

However, the Russian Embassy in Albania said it had sent an inquiry to the Albanian Foreign Ministry.

The incident appears to be an exercise in "NATO propaganda," it concluded.

Diplomatic relations between Tirana and Moskow have been chilly lately. In January Albania expelled a Russian diplomat, Aleksei Krivosheev, for not respecting COVID-19 rules.

In 2018, Albania declared two Russian diplomats "non grata," claiming their activity was not compliant with their diplomatic status. Russia then expelled two Albanian diplomats from the Albanian embassy in Moscow.

Inside the Taiwanese embassy siege in Haiti
See also here for Haiti’s request for American or UN troops and a general update.
[GlobeAndMail] How a lone security guard helped wrangle 11 suspects
Wait... what?!?
A lone security guard at the Taiwanese embassy in Haiti was responsible for the arrests of 11 suspects in the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, after a group of heavily armed commandos invaded the diplomatic compound the evening after the murder.

The guard’s harrowing ordeal – during which he concealed himself, undetected, in a Toyota RAV4 with tinted windows for 18 hours as he helped guide police outside on retaking the building – was recounted to The Globe and Mail by a source in Haiti with direct knowledge of the situation.

Police have arrested 15 men in connection with the assassination, and killed at least four others in gun battles. Nine more are still being sought. The 28-man hit squad was made up primarily of Colombian mercenaries, with two Haitian-Americans, Haiti’s National Police said.
I wonder if the Colombian mercs were from some of the red groups that had their butts kicked the last few years at home and decided to get into a safer line of work...
A group of men burst into Mr. Moïse’s private home in Petion-Ville, an affluent Port-au-Prince suburb, around 1 a.m. Wednesday. In the hours after the killing, police surrounded some suspects in the shrubbery around the neighbourhood and tracked down others to a house where they were staying. But many of the gunmen eluded capture all day.

Shortly before 9:45 p.m. that evening, the lone security guard was on duty at the Taiwanese embassy, roughly two kilometres from Mr. Moïse’s home, when 11 of the suspects arrived, the source said. The security guard, who was armed with a shotgun, decided he could not fend off the commandos alone. He took cover in a vehicle as the men burst into the compound, the source said. Because of the vehicle’s tinted windows, the gunmen did not see him.
Well-trained assassins, top men...
Using his mobile phone, the guard immediately called his superiors, who alerted the police and Taiwanese diplomats. The guard was able to continue relaying reports from his hidden position as the commandos swarmed around. At 11:40 p.m., they broke into the chancellery and set up shop inside. The building was empty at the time, as services had been shut down that day and staff ordered to work from home.

At 1 a.m., police surrounded the building and threw tear gas inside but were unsuccessful in flushing the gunmen out. The standoff continued overnight and through the next day. The Haitian National Police unit in charge of diplomatic security reviewed plans of the chancellery, the source said. Members of the presidential guard were also involved in the operation.

Under international diplomatic protocol, police also had to secure the permission of the Taiwanese government to enter the building. After Taiwan’s officials gave them the green light, police captured the compound at 3:25 p.m. Thursday and arrested the men without resistance.

The security guard, a Haitian national, was finally able to emerge from the vehicle around this time.

In a statement, the government of Taiwan said it had authorized Haitian police to breach its embassy.

“The embassy welcomes the rapid reaction of the Haitian authorities and continues, as always, to work alongside the Haitian people,” read the statement, which denounced the “cruel and barbaric” slaying of Mr. Moïse as “a major international event that has shocked the whole world.”

A video circulated on social media in Haiti shows the 11 men arrested at the Taiwanese embassy bloodied and bruised, wearing jeans and combat boots. In the video, the group is sitting on the floor of a military base, their hands tied behind their backs, surrounded by soldiers in combat fatigues.

Afghanistan
Kabul calls on Russia, India, China to help fight terrorism in Afghanistan
[NATION.PK] As the US-led coalition nears the September 11 deadline for its pull-out from Afghanistan, the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
reportedly seized control of some 85% of territory within the country, according to a Friday statement issued by the murderous Moslem group. The Taliban's issuance has been dismissed as propaganda by some.

Afghan National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib announced on Friday that Afghanistan welcomes any technical, anti-terrorism operation support from external partners, including the militaries of Russia, China and India.

However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
any external assistance should not interfere with internal Afghan government matters, Mohib emphasized.

"We do not need to replace one superpower with another, peace and stability are possible only in the case of cooperation with everyone in the region and beyond, but we call on external partners to help our defense and security forces fight terrorism, for which they are intended, and not interfere in our internal affairs," the Afghan national security adviser said.

"We welcome technical support from all external partners, of course, from China, India and Russia."

Mohib went on to assert Afghan authorities have recognized the Taliban's right to exist as a legitimate political force, not a "monopoly," alongside other groups within Afghanistan.

The Afghan government's pleas come alongside the Taliban's celebration of allegedly claiming 85% of territory in Afghanistan.

Speaking during a Friday news conference in Moscow, Russia, Taliban official Shahabuddin Delwar declared "you and the entire world community have probably recently learned that 85% of the territory of Afghanistan has come under the control."

Friday alone, members of the movement overtook the border town of Islam Qala, and the Abu Nasa Farahi checkpoint - both key territories along the Afghan-Iranian border.

Delwar also vowed to take operational measures to ensure ISIS* does not re-emerge in Afghanistan.

A number of military experts have argued that a less rushed pullout by US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect hacked up by the World's Greatest Deliberative Body....
and his administration could have curbed the Taliban's now-actively growing influence in the region.

Government Corruption
Dems' outrageous attempt to tilt elections in their favor
[NYPOST] Civil-rights leaders met with Team Biden at the White House on Thursday to protest what they claim is a widespread assault on voting rights "for blacks and people of color," according to civil rights hustler Al Sharpton
...Tawana Brawley's spiritual advisor...
. Another participant, Marc Morial, president of the National Urban League, said the group’s message was that "democracy is under vigorous, vicious and sinister attack."

Disregard the phony handwringing and Morial’s flamboyant warning about an "effort to impose a system of an American apartheid."

Their goal isn’t making voting easier. They want to outlaw safeguards that many state politicians believe are needed to keep voting honest.

At the top of their list of grievances was the Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
’s June 1 ruling upholding Arizona’s anti-fraud voting laws. The left is using the ruling as a pretext to demand Congress pass the For the People Act, also dubbed HR1.

HR1 would override laws like Arizona’s, ban voter-identification requirements and lay the groundwork for a permanent Democratic majority.

In the Arizona case, the justices, by a 6-3 majority, found no evidence that state voting laws put minority voters at a disadvantage or made voting too hard. Truth is, explained Justice Samuel Alito, "Arizona law generally makes it very easy to vote."

Alito explained that states have the authority to pass "non-discriminatory voting rules," to deter fraud. That’s what Arizona did. Arizona requires that voters cast ballots in their assigned precinct, and it outlaws the sleazy practice of ballot-harvesting, where paid workers walk through neighborhoods, knock on doors and offer to help residents return the ballots they’ve received in the mail.

Ballot-harvesting invites cheating, since harvesters invariably are trying to get a particular candidate elected.

The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

claims "Republican-controlled legislatures across the country have raced one another to pass laws that make voting harder." Untrue. They’re aiming to make cheating harder.

In Texas, Republican politicians are trying to push through reforms that would outlaw ballot-harvesting and require identification for voting by mail, while at the same time expanding voting hours and early-voting days. More voting. Less mischief.

Biden called the Texas reforms "un-American," but perhaps he doesn’t know and is just parroting Democratic talking points. After all, Delaware currently has no early voting at all, and he hasn’t protested that.

Democrats treat voter-fraud claims as Republican hallucinations. Not true. An alleged ballot-harvesting scheme in Minneapolis was exposed last fall by the undercover news organization Project Veritas, showing harvesters exploiting the elderly and immigrants colonists.

Europeans get it. To deter fraud, three-quarters of European countries either bar absentee voting or require showing a photo ID to get a ballot.

#1  "HR1 would override laws like Arizona’s, ban voter-identification requirements and lay the groundwork for a permanent Democratic majority." Do you have to show ID to visit the capital or Federal buildings? How about for a driver's license? Cigarettes? Buy booze? Mailing things or picking them up from the P.O., Fed Ex and UPS? 24 things you need an Id to do (there are others as well).

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/24-things-that-require-a-photo-id

And HR1 would allow the Dems to steal elections ad infinitum into the future But that's not considered an assault on voting rights? It's all about power. Dems need to stop being hypocrites and lying about this.

#1  I was once told (about 30-odd years ago) that there are trends in writing official Military History. The Americans and Germans tell the truth but bury all the "icky details" in the supplementary annexes. The British blandly present things "as they should be seen" -- not 'false" per se, but misleading. Some other countries publish fantasies from their official government presses.

ICC confirms charges against Darfur militia leader Kushayb
[Sudan Tribune] The Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Friday confirmed the charges against Ali Kushayb and ordered to try him for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

In a statement released on Friday, the ICC said the three judges unanimously found "that there are substantial grounds to believe that Mr Abd-Al-Rahman (Kushayb) is responsible for 31 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed between August 2003 and at least April 2004 in Kodoom, Bindisi, Mukjar, Deleig and their surrounding areas in Darfur, Sudan".

From 24 to 26 May, the pre-trial court held a hearing to determine whether or not there is sufficient evidence for his trial.

The charges brought by the prosecution include attacks on civilians, murder, pillage, rape, torture among others.

Kushayb can appeal the confirmation of charges.

Last June, the former ICC Prosecutor Fatu Bensouda called on the Security Council to press Sudan to hand over the former Sudanese State Minister for Interior Ahmed Harun saying the two were jointly charged with the same crimes.
