MLM Nauka - main engines will not fire. How to get it to space station?
[Twitter]
This is the new Russian space station element just launched. It had a history of delays. The last 2 were from metal filings in it's fuel tanks. I suspect the metal bits made themselves known again. From this link we see:Initially, Nauka was built as a backup for FGB Zarya, the first module of the ISS. Construction started in 1995, with a design based on the hull of the Soviet cargo ship TKS, itself a part of the Almaz military program which included orbital stations, a supply cargo ship, and crewed ships with reusable descent modules.
Nauka is in fact the last surviving, active part of the Almaz program, excluding the hulls and ships which were sold to the Excalibur-Almaz company and to museums for exhibition.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Criminal Collusion, Medical Malfeasance and Murder
Excerpt:
[USAA News] Suppression

Dr. McCullough said 85% of the people who perished from Covid died needlessly. The vast majority of doctors jumped in lockstep to follow these erroneous "guidelines" handed down by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the CDC. Those guidelines neglected to place any focus on the treatment of sick patients andfrom the beginning, as early as April 2020, started emphasizing the need for a vaccine as the only real hope of beating back the virus.

McCullough said the suppression of early Covid treatments, such as HCQ, Azithromycin and especially Ivermectin, "was tightly linked to the development of a vaccine." The FDA put an EUA on HCQ which is a 65-year-old safe drug, when only brand-new drugs or brand new "vaccines" get an EUA...and this effectively stopped the use of these cheap and safe drugs for treatment.

Without the suppression of the already-available treatments, the government would not have been able to legally grant EUA to the three vaccines rushed to market in the USA by Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson.

The Covid battle was left in the hands of independent physicians to try to find therapeutic and off-the-shelf treatments, something that is not part of the pharmaceutical paradigm. It appears many of the treatments that should have been promoted, investigated and studied by health authorities to save lives were instead sabotaged and made inaccessible.

Dr. McCullough called this therapeutic nihilism.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
1 killed, 10 injured in explosion at Gaza City market
[Jpost] Images reportedly from the scene showed heavily damaged structures and a smoke cloud that could be seen from a distance. A number of smaller booms could be heard in video reportedly showing the moments leading up to the larger explosion.

The Hamas Interior Ministry stated that the explosion occurred in a multi-story house in the market, leading to the collapse of large parts of the home and damage to nearby homes and shops.

Explosions caused by weapons stored in civilian homes have occurred in Gaza in the past.

IDF spokesperson for Arabic media Avichay Adraee tweeted on Thursday, claiming the explosion was a result of a mishap in a weapons depot of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

In January, an explosion destroyed a home in Gaza where terrorists were attempting to prepare explosives. At the time, Avichay Adraee, the IDF spokesperson for Arabic media, said on Twitter that "the story of the house is the story of many homes in the Gaza Strip," that are being used for weapons storage.

"They have turned [homes] into warehouses of weapons, military parts and missiles for terrorist organizations and the people who pay the price in the end are the innocent civilians," added Adraee.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Havana Syndrome Task Force to Be Led by Veteran of Hunt for Bin Laden
[WSJ] WASHINGTON—CIA Director William Burns has tapped a veteran of the agency’s hunt for Osama bin Laden to head a task force aimed at finding the cause of unexplained health incidents suffered by U.S. spies and diplomats around the world, current and former officials familiar with the matter said.
So remember guys, don't sit in the cab or service the vehicle during active system operations.
The choice of the Central Intelligence Agency officer—whose identity remains undercover—is part of what the officials described as a quickening effort to determine the source of the apparent attacks, which has proven elusive. They have affected scores of U.S. officials posted overseas over the last five years, and are sometimes known as "Havana Syndrome" because the symptoms were first reported in 2016 by diplomats at the U.S. Embassy in Havana.

A scientific panel under the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine in December said some form of directed energy emissions were the most likely culprit for the symptoms experienced by U.S. officials, which include dizziness, severe headaches, nausea and cognitive difficulties.

Mr. Burns, who became CIA director in March, has said that identifying the source of the attacks and getting treatment for affected agency personnel are among his top priorities. Some current and former intelligence officials suspect Russia is behind the attacks, but that remains unproven and Moscow has denied involvement.

Taliban seek to cut off Afghan population centres: Top US general
[Aljazeera] Taliban fighters have encircled 17 provincial capitals, outcome of Afghanistan peace talks uncertain, Mark Milley says.

Taliban fighters have gained "strategic momentum" in Afghanistan and now control about half the countryside as they drive to cut off population centres from the Western-backed government in Kabul, the United States’s top military general said.

"This is going to be a test now, of the will and leadership of the Afghan people, the Afghan security forces and the government of Afghanistan," Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Mark Milley told reporters at the Pentagon on Wednesday.

Democrats planning Civilian Climate Corps of 'millions' paid at least $15 per hour
[Just The News] A group of Democrats is pushing for the creation of a Civilian Climate Corps that could employ "millions" of young people at a minimum of $15 per hour as a way to tackle climate change.

"I was proud to stand alongside Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez this year as we reintroduced the Green New Deal and also brought forward our new Civilian Conservation Corps because that legislation is a pathway to new jobs in our country, union jobs for young people," Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) said during a news conference focused on including the Civilian Climate Corps in the filibuster-proof budget reconciliation bill the Democrats are drafting.

Recruits for the envisioned corps "can, through apprentice programs, not just have a job but have a career in fighting this climate crisis and a pathway for education, a pathway for them to pay off their student loans or to go to college," Market added.

President Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer have endorsed creating a Civilian Climate Corps modeled on the the Civilian Conservation Corps, a New Deal-era public work relief program.

"I am using my power as majority leader to ensure that the Civilian Climate Corps will be included in the reconciliation package, and I will fight to get the biggest boldest CCC possible," Schumer said. "Together, we're going to work to make this a strong, bold and so important reality."

Democrat Who Featured In Infamous 'Maskless Flight' Pic Calls For 'Universal Mask-Wearing'
[ZERO] Democrat Texas state Rep. Donna Howard, who appeared in the now infamous photo of maskless Dem lawmakers on a private jet, faced ridicule after she called for "universal mask-wearing.

Howard was one of 60 Texas Democrats who boarded a jet to Washington, D.C., to skip out on a vote on Texas’ election reform bill. A photo of the plane cabin shows Howard and several other passengers not wearing masks.

Following the trip, where they met with U.S. officials, Howard along with 5 of her colleagues tested positive for COVID-19.

She subsequently tried to deflect criticism by remarking, "TSA exempts private, non-commercial flights from the mask requirement."

"Unfortunately, the spike in infections from the delta variant became apparent immediately after our flight," Howard continued.

"Had we known at the time, we would have worn masks."

Now Howard is facing more mockery after she vehemently called for schoolchildren to be forced to wear masks in class.

-Land of the Free
Is Biden Making Room for Right-Wing ‘Terrorists' at Guantanamo?
[PJ] The establishment media agrees that Biden’s handlers’ freeing of Taliban jihadi Abdul Latif Nasser from Guantanamo, where he had been held for nineteen years, was the first step toward taking care of more unfinished business from the Obama administration and finally closing the notorious prison camp. But is that really the plan? Or might Guantanamo be filled up with a new group of terrorists?

The signs aren’t hard to find. CNN reported Wednesday that "the Justice Department repeatedly has documented the emergence of what could be called small, right-wing extremist groups." One of the examples offered in the report is that of Robert Morss, a Pennsylvania resident who was arrested in connection with the January 6 Reichstag Fire. According to CNN, when Morss was arrested, police "found in his car a notebook with a page titled, ’Step by Step to Create Hometown Militia.’ Beneath it Morss allegedly scribbled bullet point reminders, fleshing out the idea of forming a violent cell — ’bring assault rifle’ and ’set up your kit’ — and notes on ’formation.’"

Then there were Ian Rogers and Jarrod Copeland, who were "so devoted to former President Donald Trump and so angry about the 2020 election result, that they allegedly plotted to blow up the Democratic headquarters building in Sacramento. One commented over an encrypted messaging thread, where the two discussed planning, that he realized they would be perceived as domestic terrorists, and the second man had previously joined an anti-government militia group."

Whether these three men actually did anything criminal, or planned to do so, is a matter for the courts to decide. But ominously, a prosecutor wrote about the Rogers/Copeland case that "All of the political and social conditions that motivated them to plan what they themselves described as a terrorist attack remain."

What are those conditions? Raw Story gave a clue to the answer to that in a risibly hysterical piece Monday which began:

Wikipedia's Own Co-Founder Warns His Site Is Compromised by Leftists and Can't Be Trusted
[Red State] For years, Wikipedia has been a source of quick and dirty knowledge about any given subject under the sun, but over time it’s become a leftist propaganda site where reality is whatever the leftist volunteers editing the site want it to be.

This isn’t just an opinion. This is coming straight from the mouth of Wikipedia’s own co-creator who is now sounding the alarm on the fact that his own site is now compromised by uncompromising leftists who are erasing anything and altering everything that is inconvenient to the left’s narrative.

According to the Daily Mail, Wikipedia co-creator Larry Sanger appeared on the "UnHeard" podcast to discuss the site’s descent from a crowdsourced online encyclopedia to a leftist propaganda site:

Biden drifts off answering a question during CNN's town hall with Don Lemon, appears to listen to earpiece to get out of incoherent ramble
[American Thinker] We’ve all seen this before, as has every leader of every country in the world. A sitting President of the United States cannot put together a coherent answer to a simple question. He pauses, appears puzzled, and then comes up with a string of words that appear to have entered his brain via an earpiece. If the stakes weren’t so high, it would be comic.

Wednesday saw the president of the United States engage in a town hall format discussion, on friendly territory with Don Lemon moderating on CNN. It must have been one of those "good days" that dementia sufferers sometime enjoy — in Biden’s case, meaning no "lid" was called, removing the leader of the free world from public scrutiny.

("Calling a lid" is an unprecedented admission that the POTUS is not in full command of his mental faculties and would have Democrats demanding that the 25th Amendment be invoked if a Republican were in office. But Republicans are far too polite and far too scared of the media to make an issue of it with Biden.)

Even with friendliest, least demanding moderator imaginable, Don Lemon, it was a challenge for President Joe Biden to get through the entire hour. His handlers must have believed that that with familiar questions and maybe a good earpiece helping him along, he could handle the challenge.

They were wrong.

Asked an unchallenging question of 12-year-olds and vaccination, he drifted off in the middle of a sentence, and, as he so often does, looked down, got that Deliverance banjo player look on his face, and appeared to be listening to something in his earpiece, and then strung together a sequence of words that were not grammatically related to the rest of the sentence, but which, on their own, were coherent. As if repeating what he just heard.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Biden ‘Set to Surge' Illegal Alien Population Across U.S.
[Breitbart] President Joe Biden is "set to surge" the number of illegal aliens living across the United States, new analysis provided to Breitbart News details.

The analysis, conducted by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), projects that the nation’s illegal alien population will increase dramatically as a result of Biden’s mass migration agenda where border crossers are routinely being released into the U.S. interior, most illegal aliens are evading deportation, and there are no plans for a crackdown on visa overstays.

The illegal alien population "could exceed 20 million" if Biden "implements all of his preferred policies" by the end of 2024, the analysis estimates.

"... the illegal alien population is set to surge under the Biden administration," FAIR’s analysis states.

As evidence, FAIR notes that even as former President Donald Trump implemented strict border controls, boosted deportations of illegal aliens, and closed a number of visa loopholes, the illegal alien population "grew considerably" from their estimate of 12.5 million at the start of 2017 to 14.5 million by the end of 2020.

"This can be attributed to a number of reasons, including a strong economy throughout most of [Trump’s] presidency," the analysis states:

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Troops hunting for suspects who crossed into Israel from Lebanon
[IsraelTimes] Residents in two towns near border told to stay in their homes, some roads closed as soldiers attempt to find pair amid rising tensions.

Soldiers were carrying out searches for two suspects who crossed into the country from Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady human sacrifice days of Baal Moloch. In 2020 Hezbollahblew up a considerable portion of Beirut and many of its inhabitants when its ammonium nitrate faci8lity exploded. They blamed it on... somebody else. It wasn't them though. Trust them on that...
early Thursday, the army said, amid rising tensions along the restive northern frontier.

Troops were deployed to the area around the towns of Dovev and Baram near the Blue Line with Lebanon at around 2 a.m. after two suspicious people were spotted crossing the border fence into Israel, according to Hebrew media reports.

"At this hour, Israeli forces are in pursuit of two suspects and using an array of utilities to stop them," the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement just before 6 a.m.

Flares and aircraft were being utilized in the search, Hebrew media reports said.

The military said people in two towns near the search area — apparently Dovev and Baram — had been ordered to remain inside.

"Troops are isolating the area where the suspects are, which includes deploying forces and blocking roads," the army said.

There was no immediate comment from Lebanese authorities or UNIFIL, the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
peacekeeping force stationed in southern Lebanon.

The suspected infiltration came less than two days after a rare rocket attack from Lebanon on Israel early Tuesday, which followed closely on the heels of alleged Israeli Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s on sites near Aleppo apparently connected to Iranian-backed militias. A second Israeli sortie was reported early Thursday.

It was unclear if the suspected incident was connected to the tensions. Lebanon is in the midst of a devastating economic and political crisis that has seen its currency bottom out and sent masses into the streets to protest.

In early June, two Ottoman Turkish nationals crossed into Israel from Lebanon, apparently looking for work. They were arrested after a 12-hour manhunt.

After alleged Iranian cyberattack, Israel’s Water Authority beefs up defenses
[IsraelTimes] SIGA OT Solutions signs deal to protect water infrastructure; agreement comes as Military Intelligence chief warns Israel under regular assault

Israel’s Water Authority hired a cybersecurity company to protect its machinery following an attack on water infrastructure last year that Israel blamed on Iran, the firm said Wednesday.

The company, SIGA OT Solutions, said it signed an agreement with the authority to "to counter cyberthreats to the machinery and equipment that comprise the critical infrastructure," as well as defend them against ransomware attacks.

Last April, six Water Authority facilities were targeted in the cyberattack in which hackers attempted to increase the amount of chlorine in the water supply to dangerously high levels. The attacks were countered before any damage could be caused. However,

the incident raised major concerns about the ability of the Water Authority to protect itself from future cyberattacks.

Before receiving the contract, SIGA tested out its cyber defense system SigaGuard at a number of water installations. According to the firm, the product tracks the underlying electrical signals in the water systems to "detect initial evolvements of anomalies in the process behavior and gains direct visibility into the operational technologies process."

"Water utilities are at the forefront of global cyberattacks. But utilities have minimal tolerance for a downtime in service, and no utility would agree to a hacker deciding whether its infrastructure will operate or not," Amir Samoiloff, co-founder and CEO of SIGA, said in a statement.

On Tuesday, the outgoing head of Military Intelligence said Israel is facing constant cyberthreats and will respond to attacks as it does to any other type of aggression.

Videos of Pak citizens holding Taliban flags and chanting Islamist slogans at rallies to show support for the Afghan holy warriors have been circulating on social media. This comes amid rapid Taliban advances in Afghanistan ahead of the complete withdrawal of US troops by September.

Europe
Sweden toughens sentences for young over gang crime rise
Good.
[Iran Press TV] Sweden on Wednesday announced it would push for tougher sentences for younger offenders in a bid to combat a rising wave of gang violence.
Many of the gangs are various flavours of Muslim colonists, some are Eastern European or other immigrants, and a very few are native Swedes looking for trouble.
The government will seek parliamentary approval to abolish the automatic reduction of sentences for defendants aged 18-20 convicted of serious crimes, such as murder, manslaughter, rape, armed robbery and gun crime, Justice Minister Morgan Johansson said.

"It's better to try to target the crimes committed by those who do these crimes in a systematic way and live a criminal lifestyle," Johansson told a presser.

Sweden has been struggling for several years to deal with the rise of criminal gangs and the resulting increase in fatal shootings and score settling in an otherwise peaceful country.

Sweden has the highest number of deadly shootings per capita in Europe, according to a report published in May by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention.

In 2020, the country of just over 10 million people registered more than 360 incidents involving firearms, with 47 deaths and 117 injuries.

Most of the victims and perpetrators were under the age of 30.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan Relatively Calm on Second Day of Eid
[ToloNews] Afghanistan remained relatively calm on the second day of Eid, including in those provinces which saw some of the fiercest battles over the past few weeks.

Residents in embattled areas called on the warring parties to make compromises and avoid further war.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
the Afghan Ministry of Defense (MoD) said that widespread attacks were reported in at least ten provinces, adding that the Afghan cops managed to repel these attacks. But the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
has rejected the allegations, saying their fighters have been in a defensive stance during the Eid days.

"It is now three days that we hear firing in Taluqan," said Rahman, a resident of Takhar.

"People want a ceasefire," said Lotfullah, a resident in Takhar.

No security incidents were reported in bustling provincial capitals Ghazni city, Kandahar city or Maimana during the Eid days, despite recent battles in these areas.

"The situation is peaceful in Ghazni now, there is no fighting, but the people are fearful," said Wahid, a resident in Ghazni.

"Our people want peace," said Gul Mohammad, a resident in Faryab.

"They had their activities in 19 provinces and in 35 districts, the security and defense forces repelled their attacks, casualties were also inflicted on the enemy," said Rohullah Ahmadzai, a defense ministry front man.

"We will soon launch our offensive operations to recapture the areas that have been lost," said Khanullah Shuja, the commander of 209 Shaheen Army Corps.

"They (Taliban) should take advantage of the opportunity and engage in peace talks," said Dur Mohammad, an Afghan police officer.

"We are defending--for the sake of Afghanistan and the people," said Gulbuddin, an Afghan police officer.

This comes a day after President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
during his Eid message said that the government was working on a new security plan to improve the country’s security situation in the next three to six months.

Delhi on high alert as Pak terror groups look to strike Delhi ahead of Independence Day
[OneIndia] New Delhi has been put very high alert ahead of the 75th year of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

The Intelligence Bureau has sounded an alert ahead of Independence Day and said that terror groups would look to strike in the national capital. Groups such as the Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
, Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Khalistan groups would look to carry out terror strikes in Delhi, an IB official told OneIndia.

The alert comes at a time of the Parliament being in session. Of late, the security agencies have been dealing with the menace of drones. A recent attack on the Indian Air Force Base in Jammu was termed as one of its kind. IB officials also say that Pakistain based terror groups would look to launch attacks in the national capital ahead of Independence Day.

The newly appointed Delhi Police Commissioner, Balaji Srivastav had this month directed the force to focus their attention on anti-terror measures ahead of August 15. He had also directed the force to step up security at hotels, guest houses and also carry out verification of tenants and domestic helps.

Lebanon Families Spend '5 Times Minimum Wage' on Food: Study
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Families in Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Trust them on that...
are now spending five times the minimum wage on food alone, a report found Wednesday, as inflation caused by the country's worst-ever economic crisis continues to soar.

The Mediterranean country is battling what the World Bank has described as one of the planet's worst financial crises since the 1850s, which has left more than half the population living below the poverty line.

The Lebanese pound has lost more than 90 percent of its value to the dollar on the black market since 2019, and Lebanese with deeply devalued salaries in the local currency have seen their purchasing power plummet.

According to the latest prices in July, "a family's budget just for food is around five times the minimum wage," the Crisis Observatory at the American University of Beirut said.

Without taking into account the additional cost of water, electricity or cooking gas, a family of five was spending more than 3.5 million Lebanese pounds a month on food alone, it estimated.

Most people are paid in the local currency in Lebanon, where the national minimum wage stands at 675,000 Lebanese pounds.

That was once worth almost 450 dollars at the official exchange rate, but today barely fetches 30 dollars on the black market.

The Observatory said the cost of food has soared by 700 percent over the past two years, and this increase had picked up pace in recent weeks.

"The price of a basic food basket increased by more than 50 percent in less than a month," it said.

Nasser Yassin, the head of the Observatory and a professor at AUB, told AFP the latest jump in prices was "very, very alarming".

"We're now witnessing an exponential increase in a short period of time," he said.

Food price increases have mostly mirrored the pound's nosedive, though some traders likely marked up some products in a bid to salvage some of their capital, he explained.

Lebanon has been slowly lifting subsidies on key goods in recent weeks, sending the price of fuel and medicines soaring.

The cash-strapped country is struggling to import enough fuel to keep its power plants online, sparking electricity cuts for up to 23 hours a day in most areas.

The cost of hooking up to a back-up neighborhood generator to keep the lights and fridge on has also increased.

Biden admin walks back ties to group pushing critical race theory in schools
[FoxNews] 'It was an error' to promote the critical race theory handbook said Biden's Department of Education.

The Biden administration blamed an "error" Wednesday after promoting a radical activist group’s handbook that pushes critical race theory in schools and calls on educators to "disrupt Whiteness."

"The Department does not endorse the recommendations of this group, nor do they reflect our policy positions," the Department of Education (DOE) said in a statement. "It was an error in a lengthy document to include this citation."

DOE linked to the Abolitionist Teaching Network’s "Guide for Racial Justice & Abolitionist Social and Emotional Learning" in its handbook intended as a "roadmap" for schools to reopen safely during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Abolitionist Teaching promotes justice, healing, joy, and liberation for all Black, Brown, and Indigenous folx, inclusive of all intersecting identities," the group’s guide states. It calls on educators to "[r]emove all punitive or disciplinary practices that spirit murder Black, Brown, and Indigenous children" and to "[b]uild a school culture that engages in healing and advocacy."

"This requires a commitment to learning from students, families, and educators who disrupt Whiteness and other forms of oppression," it states.

The guide also claims that social and emotional learning (SEL) "can be a covert form of policing used to punish, criminalize, and control Black, Brown, and Indigenous children and communities to adhere to White norms," and that "[m]ost SEL standards are rooted in Eurocentric norms, not to empower, love, affirm, or free Black, Brown, or Indigenous children."

DOE's handbook currently links to the group’s guide in a section about meeting the social, emotional, and mental health needs of students.

While the Abolitionist Teaching Network, co-founded last year by author and professor Bettina Love, does not explicitly mention critical race theory in its guide promoted by the Biden administration, the idea that racism is not aberrational and that America’s institutions are inherently racist are commonly held tenets of the theory.

The network "is dedicated to not creating new schools or reimagining schools, but destroying schools that do nothing but harm Black and brown children," Love said during a welcome webinar in October. "If you don’t recognize that White supremacy is in everything we do, then we got a problem."

Government Corruption
Gov. Tim Walz repeats his insistence that Rep. John Thompson resign
[STARTRIBUNE] Gov. Tim Walz on Monday again insisted that state Rep. John Thompson resign over reports of multiple domestic violence accusations as House DFL leaders considered what to do about the politician's refusal to step down.

Police reports from three departments detail five domestic assault cases, some that took place in front of children, from 2003-11. Walz said the allegations have rendered the freshman DFL politician from St. Paul no longer fit to serve.

"We all make transgressions in our lives, but I just want to be clear, the information over the weekend involving multiple accusations, cases of domestic violence in front of children just makes it to where I cannot believe that the representative can continue to serve us well," Walz told news hounds after visiting a Lake Elmo middle school as part of a tour touting Minnesota's two-year education budget.

The police reports first obtained and reported by Fox 9 detail multiple arrests of Thompson after he was accused of domestic violence in Eagan, St. Paul and Superior, Wis. The Star Tribune has since obtained the reports through records requests. Multiple cases involve allegations of punching and choking, at times in front of children and other relatives. Thompson denies the allegations.

The most recent case involves a previously unreported arrest in May 2011 in St. Paul. In that case, Thompson's girlfriend, who later became his wife, told police that he tried to pull her from a car before she fell on a door jamb and that he also struck her mother.

According to the St. Paul police report, the woman said she believed Thompson would "seriously injure her because he has done it before." She told police that he threatened her "every six to eight weeks" and that she was most frightened by him when in 2003 he allegedly gave her a concussion. The woman said she did not cooperate with authorities at the time, and charges were not filed. Thompson also was not charged in connection with the May 2011 arrest.

The woman told police at the time that the two had been together for 12 years, had two children together and that Thompson had two children from a prior relationship. She and Thompson married in February 2020, according to public marriage records. She could not be reached for comment but posted on Facebook that she felt as if her family and husband were under attack.

The allegations added to a nearly two-week period in which top DFL elected officials had been pressured to respond after Thompson accused a St. Paul officer of racially profiling him when he pulled Thompson over July 4 for not having a front license plate on his car. Thompson was cited for driving under suspension and was found to have a Wisconsin driver's license but not one issued by Minnesota.

Jordan Kushner, Thompson's attorney, said in a statement Sunday that the politician "maintains the allegations are false and he was never found guilty of them in a court." He said Thompson "challenges the authenticity of the police reports that have been circulated to the press" and that he and his wife, the only person he would have been with at the time, deny the allegations. He said the reports likely were circulated by law enforcement groups engaged in a "smear campaign" against Thompson.

Yet Walz said Monday that he had no reason to dispute the accuracy of the reports.

"I think it would be very unusual for three different police departments stretching over a decade to fabricate information," he said. "I would assume that these are as represented to us."

2 soldiers killed, 3 wounded in IS attack in Iraq: Source
[AlAhram] IS group forces of Evil withdrew after reinforcement troops arrived at the scene, al-Bazi said without saying whether the holy warrior forces of Evil sustained casualties

Two soldiers were killed and three maimed in an attack by forces of Evil of the holy warrior Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group in Iraq's Salahudin province in the north of Baghdad, a provincial police source said on Wednesday.
The attack took place late on Tuesday night when IS group forces of Evil attacked an army base in the rugged area of Mteibijah in the eastern part of the province, leaving two soldiers killed and three maimed, Col. Mohammed al-Bazi told Xinhua

IS group forces of Evil withdrew after reinforcement troops arrived at the scene, al-Bazi said without saying whether the holy warrior forces of Evil sustained casualties.

Mteibijah area has long been a redoubt of IS group forces of Evil despite repeated anti-IS military operations in the sprawling rugged areas in the eastern part of Salahudin province, which extends to the neighboring Diyala province and the nearby Himreen mountainous area.

The security situation in Iraq has been improving since Iraqi security forces fully defeated the IS group forces of Evil across the country late in 2017.

However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
IS group remnants have since melted in urban areas or deserts and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians.

's administration said on Monday that it had transferred its first detainee from the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay, a Moroccan man imprisoned since 2002, lowering the population at the facility to 39, Rooters reported.

Abdul Latif Nasir,
...also spelt Abdullatif Nasser, he is listed at Guantanamo Bay as prisoner 244, a member of the Al Qaeda leadership cadre...
56, was repatriated to Morocco.

"I was born again on July 19. My birthday is no longer March 4. I was born yesterday on July 19," Abdul Latif Nasir said in a statement shared with ABC News. "I have no words to describe my overwhelming sense of happiness and joy. It is like a miracle after 20 years to be home and celebrate Eid together with my family."

On Tuesday, the legal charity Reprieve, which campaigned for his release and provided legal support, confirmed to ABC News that Nasser was reunited with his family in Morocco.

Nasir, whose case was profiled by ABC News in 2019, was first cleared for release from Guantanamo more than five years ago. He were tossed into the calaboose there for 19 years after he was captured in Afghanistan, alleged by the US government to be an active member of the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
and then to have trained with al-Qaeda.

Guantanamo set up to house foreign suspects following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, the prison came to symbolize the excesses of the US "war on terror" because of harsh interrogation methods critics said amounted to torture, Rooters said in the report.

While former President Donald Trump
...The man who was so stupid he beat fourteen professional politicians, a former tech CEO, and a brain surgeon for the Republican nomination in 2016, then beat The Smartest Woman in the World in the general election...
kept the prison open during his four years in the White House, Biden has vowed to close it, a promise White House press secretary Jen Psaki
...a valley girl who woke up one morning and found she was spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of State under Obama. A new American success story, under Biden she became spokeswoman for the whole administration, and she was even able to get her sister a job...
reiterated on Monday.

Nasir had been cleared for release in 2016 during the B.O. regime before Trump took office. Most of the prisoners left at Guantanamo Bay have been held for nearly two decades without being charged or tried.

"The (Biden) administration is dedicated to following a deliberate and thorough process focused on responsibly reducing the detainee population of the Guantanamo facility while also safeguarding the security of the United States and its allies," State Department front man Ned Price said in a statement.

Morocco's general prosecutor said in a statement that Nasir would be investigated for suspected involvement in terrorist acts, and a police source said he had been taken into custody in Casablanca.

More than a dozen Moroccans have been held at Guantanamo Bay and those repatriated have faced investigation and trial. One, Ibrahim Benchekroun, was tossed in the calaboose
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
for six years after being repatriated in 2005 and died in 2014 in Syria where he had traveled to join a Death Eater group.

A senior US administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, said that of the remaining detainees at the prison, 10 are already eligible for transfer.

Advocacy groups welcomed the move but said more needed to be done.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said last month that the administration was actively looking into recreating the position of a State Department envoy for the closure of the prison at the Guantanamo Bay naval base.

[REGNUM] On July 19, Brussels hosted the second round of talks between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the Prime Minister of the separatist Kosovo, Albin Kurti . At the end of the meeting, the EU Special Representative for the Dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina Miroslav Lajcak said that "Belgrade and Pristina have made very little progress."

#2  In the early 90s and one nation (then province over) my cousin went to Bosnia with Doctors Without Borders. He bailed after 2 months. All 3 parties to that fight shot at ambulances and medical people. The Bosnian and Croats when caught doing so would say the medical folk were the best targets they had seen all day. The Serbs would say that medical people were strategically in the way in firefights. The Croat troops were tattooing swastikas on their own heads and going into battle that way. The Bosnians had lots of Iranian allies shooting and raping and killing everybody on any side. The Serbians were the most logical if deadly in their moves.
I totally understood my cousin bailing... BTW he said the EU helpers (not the docs themselves) of Docs Without Borders just smoked and drank wine. They didn't lift many fingers to help.

Seriously I think the whole area is still unwinding from the hundreds of years of Ottoman occupation. A rather slow unwinding...

London 'Disappointed' Over EU Plans to Send Spanish Police to Gibraltar 'to Perform Border Controls'
[SPUTNIKNEWS] The European Commission said on Wednesday that Spanish border guards should police Gibraltar and enjoy "all necessary powers to perform border controls" related to the British Overseas Territory (BOT).The commission added the EU's proposed mandate puts forward "solutions to remove physical checks and controls on persons and goods" at the border between Spain and Gibraltar.

"It is without prejudice to the issues of illusory sovereignty and jurisdiction, and focuses on cooperation in the region", the commission pointed out, saying the mandate would also give Spain responsibility for granting asylum, visas, residence permits, and authorise Spanish police to pursue suspects in the BOT without special permission.

The EU's post-Brexit negotiator, Maros Sefcovic, said that by putting forward the draft mandate on BOT, the bloc is "honouring the political commitment we made to Spain to start the negotiations of a separate agreement between the EU and the UK on Gibraltar".

Cyber
Biden to meet business executives next month over cybersecurity issues
He has to nap before he can be drilled in what someone else has decided he should say on the subject.
[Iran Press TV] US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. We get to suffer the consequences...
and his national security team are planned to hold a meeting with the country’s business executives over the cybersecurity issues.According to a National Security Council spokesperson, the meeting, which is going to be held on Aug. 25, will be specifically about what the US claims to be cyberattacks from the Russia-based criminal syndicates and cybersecurity threats from the Chinese government.

"Today more than ever, cybersecurity is an economic security and national security imperative, and both the federal government and the private sector play a critical role," the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch clutched at his other leg......
the spokesperson provided no details about which private sector executives would attend the meeting.

Over the last months, a wave of disruptive cyberattacks, targeting the United States’ food, energy, technology sectors have made Biden put cybersecurity at the top of his agenda.

During a summit in Geneva on June 16, Biden said he and Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
have agreed to work together to address cybersecurity concerns, such as ransomware attacks on critical infrastructure, including fuel pipelines.

He also asked Putin in a phone call earlier this month to clamp down on cyber hackers, warning of consequences if such attacks continued to proliferate.

However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
many believe that China's alleged cyberattacks are of more significance to the Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft
...knaves, footpads, and adjusters employed by the Biden Crime Family. They leave a trail of havoc everywhere they turn their attention, be it the nation's borders, the Keystone XL Pipeline, or epidemics, sometimes on purpose, most times through sheer arrogant ineptitude. They learnt this stuff in college, you know...
.

All those business executives who think it's OK to do business with the Chinese should check their computer log files some time to see all the Chinese and Russian probes that come every single day. You thought they would liberalize and become civilized if we opened our economies to trade with them? You think it's worth the cost of all the cyber attacks and bioweapon attacks? How about the way they use the profits and stolen secrets to build up their military? Think again, morons.

Syrian media: air defenses intercept enemy’s missiles in sky of Homs Province — another Israeli attack?
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Israeli jets said to strike inside Syria for second time in days

[IsraelTimes] Damascus claims air defenses shot down Israeli missiles near Homs; alleged sortie comes on heels of reported attack on weapons depot in Aleppo and rocket fire from Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
Israeli planes carried out Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s Syria for the second night this week, Damascus said early Thursday, while claiming that most missiles were shot down.

The state-run SANA broadcaster reported that Syrian air defenses were confronted "Israeli aggression" in the skies near Homs.

It said Israeli jets fired missiles from north of Beirut at targets in al-Qusayr, a town near Homs, just after 1 a.m.

The report claimed "most of the hostile missiles" were shot down.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Video published by the agency showed what appeared to be anti-aircraft missiles streaking into the night sky, and witnesses on the ground reported hearing explosions.
Short video can be seen at the link.
Israel’s military does not comment on reports of specific strikes.

Rami Abdulrahman, the head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war-monitor told Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s al-Hadath TV that it appeared Israel was targeting Hezbollah sites in Syria, as part of a recent shift in tactic by Israel’s new government.

The attack comes as tensions between Israel and its northern neighbors have ratcheted up in recent days.

Late Monday, Israeli aircraft reportedly fired missiles at a number of sites near Aleppo in northern Syria. The Britannia-based Oservatory, which has activists on the ground in Syria, said the Israeli strikes on Monday targeted weapons depots that belong to Iranian-backed militia operating in the area. The group said the strikes were followed by loud explosions. The weapons depots were located inside Syrian military posts, the group said.

Russia claimed on Tuesday that Syrian air defenses managed to knock down seven of eight missiles fired on Monday.

Hours later, two rockets were fired at Israel from Lebanon, drawing an Israeli artillery response and vows from Israeli leaders to not let any such attacks pass quietly.

Israel has launched hundreds of strikes against Iran-linked military targets in Syria over the years but rarely acknowledges or discusses such operations. Israel fears Iranian entrenchment on its northern frontier, and it has repeatedly struck Iran-linked facilities and weapons convoys destined for Hezbollah.

According to the observatory, Israel had carried out 14 attacks in 2021 prior to Thursday, destroying some 40 buildings and killing 104 people.

Afghanistan
Taliban Demanding Funds, Recruiting in Balkh: Officials
[ToloNews] The Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
are forcing the local people who live in areas under the group's control in Balkh province to pay them part of their income, Afghan local authorities in the northern province said on Wednesday. "The Taliban are also trying to recruit from among the local people," said the officials.

"There are only about 20 Taliban fighters inside the district building compound and the police headquarters; the rest of them have taken up positions inside the villages to collect Zakat (charity)," said Mohammad Yousuf, the acting district governor of Kaldar district.

The officials said that the number of Taliban fighters in the district numbers only about 200 fighters, but they are looking to recruit more fighters from among the people.

Earlier this month the Taliban managed to take over the center of Kaldar district. Later on the Afghan cops were deployed five kilometers away from the district to prevent a possible move by the Taliban into Hairatan border crossing, a key financial dry port in the north.

"They have imposed taxes on the shops and bazaars and on the local people--which is beyond their capacity to pay. They also harassed the people who don’t have the capacity to pay a large amount of money," said Mohammad Hashem Mansoori, a district governor for Shortepa district in Balkh province.

Business activity has also been affected following the increased violence by the Taliban, especially in those regions where there are dry ports, such as at Hairatan.

"The people have serious concerns, the business owners are very fearful because of the businesses," said Sifatullah, a resident in Hairatan.

Security authories however have assured the people that the Afghan cops are fully prepared to defend the people’s lives and property.

"The morale of our forces is very high, they are fully prepared and have the strength to defend the city. Soon we will launch our offensive operations," said Khanullah Shuja, the commander of 209 Shaheen Army Corps.

Balkh has 14 districts, nine of which are under Taliban control.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Ahvaz Protests Threaten to Spread Across Iran
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] The expansion of protests over the diversion of Ahvaz rivers and the drying up of wetlands in southwestern Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
threatens to spread across the country, two weeks before the inauguration of President-elect Ibrahim Raisi.

Calls spread for protests to be held in Iranian cities in solidarity with the movement in Ahvaz. Videos showed Iranians chanting "Death to Wilayat al-Faqih" and "Death to the Islamic Theocratic Republic" at Sadiqiyah, the second largest station in the west of Tehran.

In the northwestern provinces of the country, which are predominantly Azeri, posters in the Ottoman Turkish language were spread expressing solidarity with the Arab cities in the south.

This came following the fifth night of protests in the city of Ahvaz, during which demonstrators tried to reach the central areas of the province, chanting slogans condemning the policies of the Iranian regime.

Authorities cut the internet from mobile phone service in several areas, according to local reports.

In the west of Ahwaz, the city of Khafajia witnessed a tumultuous night on Monday, when thousands of people marched towards the city center, before organizing a sit-in in front of the governor’s headquarters, demanding that he submit his resignation.

The anti-riots forces, which had deployed in the city on Sunday night and fired at the protesters, withdrew on Monday after sharp criticism over the authorities’ resorting to the use of excessive violence

Activists in Ahvaz said that the authorities continued to arrest protesters in various areas, but no figures were published on the exact number of detainees.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, bullets whapped! around Butch as he tried to tie his scarf around his shoulder as a tourniquet......
outgoing Iranian President Hassan Rouhani
...Iran's moderate president, which he is, relative to his predecessor, which doesn't mean he's anything but a puppet of the nearest holy man...
maintained silence over the suppression of the protests, while conservative figures pointed to the "mismanagement" that led to deteriorating conditions in the oil-rich province.

The former reformist President Mohammad Khatami expressed his regret over the killing and wounding of the demonstrators. He said: "People are truly upset, protesting against what is happening. Peaceful protest is a right for the people and citizens."

For his part, former Iranian President Mahmoud Short Round Ahmadinejad criticized the suppression of the demonstrations, declaring his solidarity with the protesters’ demands.

The ATS said that the names of 1,000 people are being prepared and more details will be made available following the interrogation of the accused persons. The names have been sent to the various districts for verification, the ATS further added.

ATS Inspector General, G K Goswamy said that on the basis of the list, police verification is going on.

Several districts have sent the report. Four districts are yet to submit the report, he also said.

Earlier this month, Umar Gautam who had converted from Hinduism to Islam had told the ATS that he had managed to convert over a 1,000 people by luring them with money, marriage and jobs.

I converted 1,000 non-Moslems to Islam by marrying them all to Moslems, Mohammad Umar Gautam boasted before the police. Umar along with Mufti Qazi Jahangir Alam Qasm from Delhi's Jamia Nagar were arrested by the police for running an outfit involved in converting deaf and dumb students and other poor people to Islam in Uttar Pradesh with funding from the Pakistain's ISI. The arrests were made by Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad following the registration of an FIR in the case at Lucknow's ATS cop shoppe.

Gautam lived in Batla House of Jamia Nagar, the infamous site of September 2008 encounter between the Special Cell of Delhi police and Indian Mujahideen
A locally recruited auxilliary of Pakistain's Lashkar-e-Taiba, designed to give a domestic patina to Pakistain's terror war against its bigger neighbor...
operatives, in which Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was bumped off by terrorists, two of whom were rubbed out and two arrested, while two other had escaped. Kumar said Gautam, who is himself a convert to Islam from Hinduism, boasted to the police of having converted at least 1,000 people to Islam, luring them with marriage, money and jobs.

The outfit that they ran is named Islamic Dawah Center, having access of funds from Pakistain's ISI and other foreign agencies, said Kumar. The ADGP said the ATS had been working on the case on the intelligence that some people were getting funds from ISI and other foreign agencies for converting poor people to Islam and spreading communal enmity in the society. The ATS probe has resulted in the duo's arrest, said Kumar, adding they have been booked on various charges including those under the Indian Penal Code and Uttar Pradesh's stringent anti-conversion law.

Investigation revealed that a particular school for hearing and speech impaired in Noida was also approached to entice them with promises of employment and money to get them converted to Islam.

When the children were approached by the police they were tight-lipped as these men had driven fear into them. The police learnt that the victims were radicalised and told that Islam is a better religion.

They were also lured with employment and money. The police say that there are more accused under the radar and are being tracked.

#2  Men who have nothing to do and no standards in life are usually motivated by religion and sex. It is why both India and the muslim ummah have such staggering numbers of useless people.

#5  Nobody falls for anything, Wren. The most wretched often have to trade one sorry fate for another. A promise of communal protection, dignified life and some economic security, is enough to attract the weaker sex. And the weaker sex is weakest in countries like India.

When speaking of India you have to remember the woman has less societal protection than a goddamn cow. When a hindu hooch widow in a shanty is offered a price for her daughter and promised the girl will live a secure life in some mullah household, she takes it. The hindu family next door meanwhile looks for a 'respectable' girl, of so-and-so caste, and one who can afford dowry.

The villains [apart from the corrupt rulers] here are the temple trusts, the richest god men posturing about hinduism, and not once opening their coffers to support the poorest hindus. In contrast, the muslim ummah uses money sent liberally from Qatar, England, Germany, Sweden, everywhere for the upkeep of the poorest families.

In congressional testimony, US Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland also condemned Ottoman Turkish Cypriot authorities’ announcement of a partial reopening of Varosha, an abandoned town, for potential resettlement, ratcheting up US criticism.

Cyprus appealed to the UN Security Council on Wednesday over the plans, as Turkey repeated its call for a two-state solution on the island despite international criticism.

Turkey says part of Cyprus ghost town to reopen; EU, UK,object
[SHAFAQ] Ottoman Turkish Cypriot authorities announced on Tuesday a partial reopening of an abandoned town for potential resettlement, drawing a strong rebuke from rival Greek Cypriots of orchestrating a land grab by stealth.Varosha, an eerie collection of derelict high-rise hotels and residences in a military zone nobody has been allowed to enter, has been deserted since a 1974 war split the island.

Ottoman Turkish Cypriot authorities opened a small area for day visits in November 2020, and said on Tuesday a part of it would be converted to civilian use with a mechanism in place for people to potentially reclaim their properties.

"A new era will begin in Maras which will benefit everyone," said Ottoman Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who was visiting breakaway north Cyprus on Tuesday. Maras is the Ottoman Turkish name for Varosha.

to appropriate it. Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades described the move as "illegal and unacceptable".

"I want to send the strongest message to Mr Erdogan and his local proxies that the unacceptable actions and demands of Turkey will not be accepted," Anastasiades said.

Greece's Foreign Ministry said it condemned the move "in the strongest terms", while the United Kingdom, a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, said it would be discussing the issue as a matter of urgency with other council members, saying it was "deeply concerned".

"The UK calls on all parties not to take any actions which undermine the Cyprus settlement process or increase tensions on the island," a Foreign Office spokesperson said.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell also expressed concern. "(The) unilateral decision announced today by President Erdogan and (Ottoman Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin) Tatar risks raising tensions on the island & compromising return to talks on a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus issue," he said on Twitter.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the announcement "provocative" and "unacceptable." He said "the United States is working with like-minded partners to refer this concerning situation to the UN Security Council and will urge a strong response."

United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
resolutions call for Varosha to be handed over to U.N. administration and to allow people to return to their homes.

Anastasiades said that if Turkey's "real concern was returning properties to their legal owners ... they should have adopted U.N. resolutions and hand the city over to the U.N., allowing them to return in conditions of safety."

Tuesday marked the 47th anniversary of a Ottoman Turkish invasion mounted in 1974 after a Greek Cypriot coup engineered by the military then ruling Greece. Peace efforts have repeatedly floundered, and a new Ottoman Turkish Cypriot leadership, backed by Turkey, says a peace accord between two sovereign states is the only viable option.

Greek Cypriots, who represent Cyprus internationally and are backed by the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, reject a two-state deal for the island that would accord sovereign status to the breakaway Ottoman Turkish Cypriot state that only Ankara recognises.

"A new negotiation process (to heal Cyprus' division) can only be carried out between the two states. We are right and we will defend our right to the end," Erdogan said in a speech in the divided Cypriot capital of Nicosia.

Varosha has always been regarded as a bargaining chip for Ankara in any future peace deal, and one of the areas widely expected to have been returned to Greek Cypriot administration under a settlement. The Ottoman Turkish Cypriot move renders that assumption more uncertain.

Nigeria: 100 kidnapped villagers released by bandits
[DW] The Nigerian authorities had negotiated with heavily armed gangs to secure the release of the villagers, according to local reports.

Nigerian authorities said they had managed to secure the release of 100 kidnapped villagers on Tuesday.

The residents of Manawa in Nigeria's northwestern Zamfara State were held hostage by heavily armed gangs for 42 days.

"The Zamfara State Police in collaboration with the State Ministry for Security and Home Affairs have successfully secured the unconditional release of the kidnapped victims," Zamfara State Police spokesperson Muhammad Shehu told news hounds on Tuesday.

The gangs usually demand a ransom to release the captives, but in this case, the captives were freed "without giving any financial or material gain," Shehu added.

The police spokesperson said the villagers "will be medically checked and debriefed" before returning to their families.

The gangs operate in the Rugu Forest, which spans the Zamfara, Katsuna and Kadina states in Nigeria. The region is underpoliced, and authorities have struggled to root out the criminal activity.

In addition to kidnapping, the bandidos also engage in murder, rape and cattle raiding.

The bandidos recently managed to shoot down a Nigerian military plane flying over the region, but the pilot managed to safetly eject and avoid capture.

In addition to the bandidos, the Islamic fundamentalist Boko Haram

#3  Yes, I was expecting this. The new normal. The meat processor in Canada was a practice run. They boasted the next hacking would be more pervasive. Meanwhile chip cards, banks are all being hacked. Chase told a customer it was from Amazon or WIFI. One local bank had 150 customers hacked in one day. Numbers higher for other local banks. So much for going cashless.
