Qatari officials said to tell hostage families Sinwar no longer calling them, but is alive
[IsraelTimes] Qatari officials mediating hostage deal talks with Hamas told the families of captives last week that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was no longer calling them, Channel 12 reports.

The Qataris said Sinwar was now only communicating with a pen and paper — a decision made after a series of assassinations that took out Hamas’s and Hezbollah’s leadership
…that poor, terrified man. He’s going to die exhausted
— which poses a challenge to their mediation efforts, the report says.

The officials also told the families that it is likely Sinwar has surrounded himself with hostages, and dispelled speculation that he may have been killed in an Israeli airstrike, according to the report.

“Israel has adopted a policy of assassinations that is incompatible with the deal. In the past, there was [former Hamas leader Ismail] Haniyeh and he was eliminated. Now there is Khaled Mashaal and he is much more difficult than Haniyeh,” the officials told the hostage families, Channel 12 reports.

The location of the meeting was not immediately clear.

Haniyeh was killed in Tehran in July, in an assassination blamed on Israel, though Jerusalem has not confirmed or denied its involvement.

US presidential elections: Implications for Manila-Washington alliance, South China Sea
[BenarNews] As Election Day nears, analysts assess how each candidate’s administration could affect security cooperation, territorial claims.

The outcome of next month’s presidential election in the United States could significantly influence Manila’s defense alliance with Washington and its territorial claims in the South China Sea, observers said.

With Kamala Harris
who got her start in politix between former Oakland mayor Willie Brown's' knees
and Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons...
jostling to become the next occupant of the Oval Office, some analysts interviewed by BenarNews shared their perspectives on how a new administration in Washington might shape U.S.-Philippines relations and Manila’s territorial claim in the hotly disputed waterway.

A Harris administration would likely continue America’s robust support for the Philippines under a 73-year-old defense pact, analysts said, while a second Trump presidency could introduce uncertainty and what some observers described as a more "transactional" approach to bilateral relations.

On the 2024 campaign trail, neither of the candidates have articulated or talked directly about what their policy toward the South China Sea would be, if elected president, and have largely focused their speeches at rallies on the economy and other domestic issues. But in the past, both contenders have addressed the hot-button geopolitical issue of the South China Sea during official visits to the Philippines.

THE OUTLOOK UNDER A HARRIS PRESIDENCY
If Harris, the current U.S. vice president and Democratic Party nominee for the presidency, wins in November, expect to see her carry on with the Biden administration’s policies on the Philippines and South China Sea, some analysts told BenarNews.

"A Kamala Harris administration can be expected to give full support to the Philippines under the Mutual Defense Treaty and pursue continuity in the Biden administration’s national security and national defense strategies," said Carlyle Thayer, emeritus professor of politics at the University of New South Wales Canberra.

Signed in 1951, the treaty calls on both Manila and Washington to aid each other militarily in case either country is attacked by an external power. U.S. military leaders have said they are prepared to assist the Philippines if it invoked the treaty amid threats from other nations.

Amid tensions between rival claimants Beijing and Manila over the South China Sea, the Biden administration has indicated that it would help the Philippines defend itself in the event of an armed attack "anywhere in the South China Sea."

"A Harris administration would likely approve, subject to concurrence by the Philippines, the deployment of equipment, weapons and personnel to support the Philippines in a crisis involving China at Second Thomas Shoal and/or Sabina Shoal," Thayer told BenarNews via email.

Tense standoffs between the rival territorial claimants have occurred lately in disputed waters even after both sides agreed in July to dial down tensions in the South China Sea.

"If Kamala Harris comes to power, there will be a continuity of Biden’s foreign policy and she herself has advocated closer ties with Manila and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations," said Kumari Mansi, deputy director at the Indo-Pacific Studies Center, a policy think-tank.

"She has been the highest-ranking American official to visit the [Philippine] province of Palawan, a province facing the [South China Sea] amid tensions between Manila and Beijing," Mansi told BenarNews on Tuesday.

During a November 2022 visit to Palawan, an island on the frontline of the Philippines’ maritime dispute with China, Harris hit out at Beijing over its coercive tactics in the South China Sea and reiterated Washington’s full military support for Manila. Her office also announced millions of dollars in aid for Philippine maritime law enforcement agencies.

"The United States and the broader international community have a profound stake in the future of this region. America’s prosperity relies on the billions of dollars [of commerce] that flow through these waters every day, and we are proud to work with you in your mission," the U.S. vice president said then during a speech in Palawan aboard a Philippine Coast Guard ship.

"As an ally, the United States stands with the Philippines in the face of intimidation and coercion in the South China Sea."

On that trip to the Philippines, Harris also visited President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The two have met six times in their government roles and have formed a strong bond, said Mansi, an assistant professor at Amity University in India.

"This will certainly be reflected in American foreign policy toward the Philippines under Harris," he said.

Harris became the uncontested presidential candidate on the Democratic ticket after President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. The man who made Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter look competent, if only by comparison....
bowed out from the electoral race in July over concerns about his health and whether he could defeat Trump a second time at the polls.

THE OUTLOOK UNDER ANOTHER TRUMP PRESIDENCY
Trump, the Republican Party nominee for president, who was previously elected to the White House in 2016, traveled to Manila as U.S. commander-in-chief in November 2017. During that visit, he reaffirmed Washington’s defense alliance with Manila and support for a free and open Asia-Pacific.

Trump also hailed his "great relationship" with then-Philippine leader Rodrigo Duterte.

Then-Philippine presidential front man Harry Roque later described President Trump’s meeting with Duterte as "very warm and very friendly."

Should Trump return to the White House for another term, he will likely maintain strong ties between the U.S. and the Philippines, said Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez, Manila’s envoy to Washington since 2017 — the year Trump took office.

"I don’t see any risk at all. We’ve had ups and downs with the U.S., but it has always endured," Romualdez told Bloomberg News in July, adding he expected that a Trump administration would continue with the current U.S. strategy of countering China’s activities in the South China Sea.

Still, some analysts predicted that a second Trump presidency could bring uncertainty to the alliance between the two nations and Manila’s claim in the South China Sea.

"What is worrisome is that Trump, during his first administration, seemed to be uninterested in the U.S.-Philippines alliance," wrote Derek Grossman, a senior defense analyst at RAND Corp., a policy think-tank headquartered in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,.

"Perhaps the biggest loser in Southeast Asia from a second Trump administration would be the Philippines ... [which] has expanded and deepened its security alliance with Washington to help counter Beijing’s rising gray-zone tactics in the South China Sea."

"Without U.S. support, the Philippines would be mostly left to fend for itself against the growing Chinese encroachments into its exclusive economic zone," Grossman added.

Other analysts shared similar views.

"A Trump administration would be entirely unpredictable," Thayer said. "He has disdain for tiny rocks and islets and no appreciation of maritime strategy.

"[I]f tensions between China and the Philippines rise, increasing the threat of armed conflict, Trump is likely to personally intervene and conduct summit diplomacy with President Xi Jinping to seek a transactional solution," he said. "Trump will be inclined to seek a quid pro quo with China over the head of the Philippines."

A ’CORNERSTONE’ ALLIANCE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA
Meanwhile,
...back at the Alamo, Davy was counting their remaining cannon balls and not liking the results...
one analyst agreed that a new administration under Trump could cast doubt on the U.S. commitment — or it could play out the opposite way, bringing greater defense cooperation between Washington and Manila.

"A Trump administration might adopt a transactional approach, which could revisit past criticisms of allies ’free-riding,’ casting doubt on the U.S. commitment under the MDT and straining relations," said Lynn Kuok, the Lee Kuan Yew chair for Southeast Asia Studies at the Brookings Institution, using an acronym for the 1951 defense treaty.

"But a hawkish Republican administration could also double down on defending the Philippines," she wrote.

Somalia’s spy agency detains five Al-Shabaab operatives with arms cache
[ShabelleMedia] The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said it has thwarted an al-Shabaab

operation in the Somali capital, detaining five suspects and seizing a cache of weapons and bombs, the spy agency said on Tuesday.

Acting on preemptive intelligence, NISA conducted a series of coordinated raids across multiple residences in Mogadishu overnight.

According to officials, the operation was part of an ongoing effort to disrupt al-Shabaab networks within the city, aiming to prevent potential attacks and destabilization efforts by the group. The detained individuals are believed to be affiliated with known terrorist organizations operating in the region.

The raid resulted in the confiscation of significant quantities of arms, including firearms and materials used for constructing bombs, which officials say were intended for attacks targeting civilian and military installations.

This operation marks a significant blow to al-Shabaab infrastructure in Mogadishu, showcasing NISA’s capability to act on intelligence and execute complex operations to safeguard national security. The detained suspects are currently under interrogation, and further details are expected to be disclosed as investigations progress.

Iraq
Over 5,500 Lebanese refugees enter Iraq
[Rudaw] Iraq has received more than 5,500 Lebanese refugees since the start of Israel’s escalated attacks, a spokesperson for the Iraqi interior ministry said on Saturday.

"We have received as of now 5,693 refugees from Leb

Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? who came via Najaf International Airport and Baghdad Airport, and the al-Qaim border crossing" with Syria, Miqdad Miri, Iraq's interior ministry spokesperson, said in a presser in Baghdad.

Miri said that they have had "high coordination" with Beirut’s embassy in Baghdad to assist Lebanese nationals who want to enter Iraq but do not have travel documents.

Miri also said that they established a field hospital at the Qaim border crossing with Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province to provide care for the incoming refugees.

More than 1,500 people have entered the country through Qaim, Ali Majeed, director of health for the Iraqi Red Islamic Thingy, told Rudaw’s Mushtaq Ramadhan on Saturday.

Among the displaced Lebanese nationals were "tens of people with injuries, with six of them being released [from hospital] after receiving primary health care and first aid services," Majeed said.

The Iraqi Red Islamic Thingy Society has also provided humanitarian aid to Lebanon via air and ground shipments since the intensified conflict began two weeks ago, according to Majeed.

Israel, which has frequently targeted sites in Lebanon since its war with Hamas

began a year ago, has recently escalated its attacks. Since the conflict began, 1.2 million people, nearly a quarter of the Lebanese population, have been displaced, Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Wednesday.

The United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
on Monday, citing Lebanese officials, reported that more than 1,600 people have been killed and 8,000 maimed in Lebanon by Israeli bombardments since October 2023.

Lebanon is also hosting 1.5 million Syrian refugees, in addition to 13,715 refugees of other nationalities.

1,500 Lebanese nationals arrive in Iraq from Syria: Red Crescent
[Rudaw] Iraq has received approximately 1,500 people from Lebanon through the al-Qaim border crossing with Syria since the latest escalation between Israel and Hezbollah two weeks ago, an Iraqi Red Crescent Society official said on Saturday.

Ali Majeed, head of the health department for the Iraqi organization, told Rudaw that among the displaced Lebanese nationals were “tens of the cases of injury, with six of them being released [from hospital] after receiving primary health care and first aid services.”

The Iraqi Red Crescent Society has also provided humanitarian aid to Lebanon through air and ground since the latest conflict began two weeks ago, according to Majeed.

Around 5,000 Lebanese people have been displaced to Iraq since Israel struck southern Lebanon late last month, according to Iraqi state media, citing official data.

Baghdad has facilitated travel for people from Lebanon who want to come to Iraq.

The Iraqi government has opened bank accounts to receive donations from citizens, companies, and businessmen for those who can help the Lebanese people.

“These accounts will be subject to ongoing audits by the Federal Board of Supreme Audit to ensure transparency,” Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani’s media office said on Thursday.

Last week, Sudani ordered Iraq’s interior ministry to issue expedited travel documents for Lebanese citizens without a passport who wish to enter Iraq.

Majeed detailed that the Iraqi Red Crescent has delivered tons of food and medicine to Lebanon.

Africa Horn
AFRICOM Chief says Islamic State doubles size in north Somalia
[ShabelleMedia] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Somalia has approximately doubled in size over the past year, the chief of U.S. Africa Command told VOA.
Guess somebody's been asleep at the switch.
Comfy in Germany much?

"I am concerned about the northern part of Somalia and ISIS growing in numbers," AFRICOM commander Gen. Michael Langley said in an exclusive interview, using an acronym for the terror group.

Langley declined to provide the United States’ estimate of how many Islamic State fighters are in Somalia, other than to say that the group’s had grown about "twofold" in the past year. Previous estimates have put the number of Islamic State fighters in north Somalia at about 200 fighters.

The AFRICOM commander also warned about the possibility of Islamic State increasing its foreign fighter presence in Somalia.

Somali Brigadier General Abdi Hassan Hussein, the former intelligence and police commander of Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
, where Islamic State is located in the north, told VOA earlier this year that the number of Islamic State imported muscle there alone is estimated in the hundreds. This figure has yet to be confirmed by local authorities.
Good to know.
A U.S. official told VOA in June that Abdulqadir Mumin, the leader of Islamic State in Somalia, had been targeted in an American Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
in May. Mumin appears to have survived the strike.
Bummer. Foiled again.
Asked whether Mumin was now the global leader of IS, Langley said the U.S. must take those reports as "credible."
He’s the international Number 1? That suggests a certain lack of depth — or possibly breadth — in the international ISIS leadership talent pool.
"ISIS professes that. Sometimes you’ve got to take that seriously," he said.

AL-SHABAAB
... the personification of Somali state failure...
The increase in Islamic State fighters in northern Somalia comes as the al-Qaeda affiliate al-Shabaab has exploited diplomatic disagreements between Somalia and Æthiopia to raise its recruitment numbers.

Landlocked Æthiopia and Somalia’s breakaway Somaliland
...Republic of Somaliland is an unrecognised sovereign state in the Horn of Africa, recognised internationally as a de jure part of Somalia. It is located in the southern coast of the Gulf of Aden with approximately 5.7 million residents as of 2021. The capital and largest city is Hargeisa. The government regards itself as the successor state to British Somaliland, which united from 1960 to 1991 with the Trust Territory of Somaliland (the former Italian Somaliland) to form the Somali Republic. Under the Siad Barre regime, Somaliadestroyed ninety percent of Hargeisa Per international law, once you're in, you gotta stay in, no matter how bad it smells....
region signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this year to use its Red Sea port of Berbera, a deal that Somalia has rejected. Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Friday accused Æthiopia, before the U.N. General Assembly, of actions that "flagrantly violate" Somalia’s territorial integrity.

"The have used that (dispute) to their advantage," Langley told VOA.

Al-Shabaab has been back at high numbers of between 12,000 to 13,000 fighters due to strong financing and heavy recruitment efforts, senior defense officials told VOA in June.
Al-Shabaab has been back at high numbers of between 12,000 to 13,000 fighters due to strong financing and heavy recruitment efforts, senior defense officials told VOA in June.

The political rift has bled into counter-terror cooperation between Addis Ababa and Mogadishu, with Langley telling VOA that Somali operations with Æthiopia have been "limited."

"Time will tell if they can settle their differences and coalesce into a force that’s very effective, because when they do work together, they’re very, very effective at clearing out al-Shabaab.’’

Al-Shabaab has continued attacks on civilians, including in the Mogadishu area. The terror group grabbed credit for a gun attack and suicide kaboom that killed at least 32 people in August on a popular beach in the Somalia’s capital. The group is also suspected to have carried out two deadly bombings on Saturday, one in Middle Shabelle region and another about one kilometer from the president’s office.

Al-Shabaab has suffered defeats from the South West State of Somalia down to the Juba River Valley and has sought to reset and counter-attack in those areas.

However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
in central Somalia, al-Shabaab has reversed gains made by Somali forces over the last two years as government forces failed to hold the terrain they had retaken, according to senior U.S. defense officials.
Unexpectedly.
"We need a credible holding force, because sometimes shadow governments of al-Shabaab try to re-insert themselves back in that region and try to influence some of the local leaders," Langley said.

He said the time following the clearing and liberating of a region is a "very fragile period" where Somalia and partners like the U.S. Agency for International Development can initiate local services that will increase the population’s faith in the federal government.

"If they can’t sustain that because they’re moving to the next region or next district, it ebbs," he said, adding that U.S. training was currently focused on helping Somali forces hold liberated terrain.

The Somali government has pointed to the El Dheer and Harardhere areas as evidence that some liberated terrain in central Somalia remains under government control.

ATMIS TRANSITION
Later this year, the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia will leave the country after nearly two years of helping Somalia fight al-Shabaab Lions of Islam and will be replaced in 2025 by a new African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia. Which forces will be comprised in the mission is still being worked out by the African Union and the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Langley ruled out any U.S. role in the transition, saying American forces would maintain only their advise-and-assist mission.

"Our piece of enabling is not our boots on the ground. We’re there to advise and assist, and assist in their training, but the fight is theirs," he told VOA.

Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
s

In addition to Islamic State and al-Shabaab, Somalia also must worry about Iranian-backed Houthi snuffies in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, just north of Somalia across the Gulf of Aden, whom Langley says have "aspirations" to collaborate with al-Shabaab.

"We’re concerned, and we’re closely watching that, because this can turn into a bad neighborhood real quick," he said.

Should the Houthis and al-Shabaab put pressure on the Gulf of Aden from opposite sides, Langley worries that squeezing this strategic choke point could further hinder the free flow of commerce and affect the global economy.
Should the Houthis and al-Shabaab put pressure on the Gulf of Aden from opposite sides, Langley worries that squeezing this strategic choke point could further hinder the free flow of commerce and affect the global economy. And analysts fear that Houthis could insert more sophisticated weapons into the fight for Somalia.

Houthi snuffies have targeted more than 80 merchant vessels with missiles and drones since the war in Gazoo

Airstrikes Intensify in Central Somalia in Ongoing Battle Against Al-Shabaab
[ShabelleMedia] Central Somalia’s Galgaduud region was the scene of renewed Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s early today, targeting al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
turbans in an escalation of the government’s offensive against the Islamist group. The areas struck included Barag Sheikh Amir and Hussein Cagey, recognized havens for al-Shabaab.
Air strikes by whom?
These airstrikes follow closely on the heels of similar actions in Eeldheer, a district previously reclaimed from al-Shabaab’s control, emphasizing the Somali administration’s commitment, possibly with international assistance
[from whom?]
, to undermine al-Shabaab’s network.

Details concerning the casualties or damage caused by today’s operations are not yet disclosed, leaving the local and international community in suspense over the strikes’ broader impact.
Ah'm on the edge of my seat!
The strategic Galgaduud region remains on high alert, with the local population apprehensive about further military engagements
by whom?
The persistence of such strikes indicates a concerted effort to dislodge al-Shabaab from Somalia, although the risk of civilian harm in densely populated urban areas poses significant operational challenges.

Although not officially confirmed, the role of foreign entities, such as the U.S., known for drone operations in the region, suggests a collaborative approach to counter-terrorism that intertwines Somalia’s domestic issues with global security concerns.
[Who's?]
The imperative for clear reporting[?] on civilian casualties becomes increasingly critical, both for evaluating the tactical successes of these missions and for preserving public support, which is fundamental for sustainable peace.
Does some public NOT want peace?
Somali Military Operation Kills 47 Al-Shabaab Fighters in Galgudud Region
[ShabelleMedia] The Somali government announced Saturday that a decisive military operation
[by whom?]
in the central Galgudud region resulted in the deaths of 47 Al-Shabaab militants.

This operation, which unfolded in the forested areas between the villages of Bidde Issa and Gerile near El-Dheer town, marked a significant engagement against the insurgent group.
[ah'm tired of asking]
The operation involved not only the Somali National Army (SNA) but also national intelligence agents, and local militia, and was supported by international partners
[?]
, according to an official statement released by the government.

The engagement began as a response to intelligence indicating an impending attack by Al-Shabaab militants on El-Dheer district. Well-prepared SNA and local forces confronted the militants on the outskirts of the town, leading to initial clashes where nine militants were killed.

The offensive then evolved into a broader pursuit. Following the initial skirmish, local forces, in conjunction with the SNA, targeted retreating militants in subsequent operations, which included airstrikes
[Somali Army?]
in the Ali Yabaal area aimed at dispersing and neutralizing the remaining fighters.

The aftermath of the battle left the bodies of Al-Shabaab militants scattered across the battlefield,
[cry HAVOC, and loose the pigs of war!]
a grim testament to the operation’s intensity and the defeat inflicted upon the insurgents. However, the operation was not without a loss for the government forces; five brave members of the SNA and local forces were martyred
[so they were still Muslim?]
in the line of duty, showcasing the sacrifices made in the fight against terrorism.

Reinforcements from Masagaway further bolstered the operation, ambushing and inflicting additional casualties on the Al-Shabaab fighters as they attempted to escape, as confirmed by government sources and the Ministry of Defense. This strategic move
[airborne miniguns?]
by the reinforcements played a critical role in the overall success of the operation.

#3  Skidmark: the airstrikes are probably the work of the US Air Force courtesy of AFRICOM. The other force providing international assistance is the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), which seems to be a regional force along the lines of the UN blue helmets, so I imagine they aren’t shooting things with airplanes.

Turkey has a military base nearish to Mogadishu, where they are doing their bit to improve the professionalism of the Somali National Army, both enlisted and officers, turning them into Gorgor infantry battalions, as well as adding to the training of the Danab Brigade commandos, which started out as an AFRICOM project. But the impression I have is that the Turks don’t go hunting in the field.

You understand that I don’t actually understand what I’m talking about here, but I suspect you will. ;-)

Turkish Vessel Oruc Reis Sets Sail for Somalia in Quest for Oil and Gas Exploration
Thus it is explained why Turkey has been so generous to that Hellhole that is Somalia.
[ShabelleMedia] President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
and Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar waved off the Ottoman Turkish research vessel Oruc Reis on Saturday as it set sail from Istanbul bound for Somalia.

The vessel’s mission is to perform seismic surveys for oil and natural gas exploration off the Somali coast, where The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
has secured rights.

The Oruc Reis, which will navigate through the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal, and the Red Sea, is expected to reach Somali waters by late October. Accompanying the ship are two naval frigates along with support vessels including the Zaganos Pasa, Sancar, and Ataman.

According to a ministry statement, the vessel will conduct three-dimensional seismic studies in unexplored maritime territories of Somalia, a venture that could reveal significant hydrocarbon reserves. The exploration is set to last approximately seven months, focusing on collecting data that will be analyzed in Ankara to pinpoint potential drilling sites.

Minister Bayraktar emphasized the pioneering nature of the mission, stating, "Oruc Reis will conduct 3D seismic studies in areas where such work has never been done before. We believe this region shows promise for oil."

Constructed entirely in Turkey, the Oruc Reis is a testament to the country’s technological capabilities in maritime research. Since its launch in 2017, this 87-meter-long vessel has been instrumental in seismic data collection over 23,000 square kilometers.

This deployment follows earlier agreements between Turkey and Somalia, which allowed Ottoman Turkish Petroleum to explore three offshore zones, each approximately 5,000 square kilometers. This collaboration marks a significant step in Turkey’s strategic expansion in energy exploration beyond its borders.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Pro-Iran groups target US forces in eastern Syria: Monitor
[Rudaw] Iran-backed groups in Syria used rockets and drones to attack a gas field in eastern Deir ez-Zor province late Friday, a war monitor reported, adding the facility houses US forces.

The militia groups fired rockets and drones at the Conoco gas field in the al-Ezba area resulting in "violent mostly peaceful explosions," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a UK-based war monitor reported.

SOHR added that US troops based at the field intercepted some rockets.

"This was followed by a response by the forces inside the base targeting the source of the attack," reported SOHR, which relies on a network of sources within Syria.

(ISIS) have been killed since the beginning of the year, describing Baghdad’s progress in the fight against terrorism as "great," state media reported.

"The number of hard boyz killed so far has exceeded 100 terrorists, most of whom are dangerous leaders, and work is continuing to strike terrorism wherever it is found," state media said, citing a statement by Major General Tahseen al-Khafaji, spokesperson for Iraq’s Joint Operations Command.

Describing the army’s efforts as "great and wonderful," Khafaji attributed the increase in efficiency in operations against ISIS to better cooperation between the army and other relevant security agencies.

ISIS seized control of large swathes of Iraqi territory in 2014. The group was declared territorially defeated in 2017 but continues to carry out bombings, hit-and-run attacks, and abductions across several provinces.

‘A disgrace’: Netanyahu slams Macron call to halt sale to Israel of arms for use in Gaza
[IsraelTimes] French leader says continuing conflict bad for Israeli security, spreads ‘hatred’; PM retorts: ‘Their shame will continue long after the war is won’; Élysée calls words ‘excessive’

French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday urged a halt to deliveries of arms to Israel that can be used in its war against Hamas

It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. , drawing a furious reaction from Jerusalem.

"I think that today, the priority is that we return to a political solution, that we stop delivering weapons to fight in Gaza," Macron told broadcaster La Belle France Inter.

"La Belle France is not delivering any," he added during the interview recorded early this week.

Macron reiterated his concern over the conflict in Gaza that is continuing despite repeated calls for a ceasefire.

"I think we are not being heard," he said. "I think it is a mistake, including for the security of Israel," he said, adding that the conflict was leading to "hatred."

Macron also said avoiding an escalation in Leb

was a "priority," asserting that "Lebanon cannot become a new Gaza."
Tell Hezbollah. Tell Iran. They’re the ones who set up the situation and were preparing for a second 10/7.
Responding to Macron on Saturday evening, Netanyahu called his comments "a disgrace."

"Israel is defending itself on seven fronts against the enemies of civilization," he said in a video statement, pointing to Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank, Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, Syria, Iraq and Iran. "As Israel fights the forces of barbarism led by Iran, all civilized countries should be standing firmly by Israel’s side."

"Yet President Macron and other Western leaders are now calling for arms embargoes against Israel," he continued. "Shame on them."

Netanyahu asked rhetorically whether Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. is imposing an arms embargo on its proxies. "Of course not," he said. "This axis of terror stands together."

"But countries who supposedly oppose this terror axis call for an arms embargo on Israel," Netanyahu continued. "What a disgrace!"

Netanyahu promised that Israel will win "with or without their support. But their shame will continue long after the war is won."

Responding to Netanyahu’s angry statement, the Élysée stressed that Macron "supports Israel’s security and demonstrates it."

Macron’s office noted that La Belle France had mobilized its military after this week’s Iranian missile attack, as it did following another attack in April.

The statement said that Macron "personally told the Iranian president of La Belle France’s commitment to Israel’s security. He reiterated that La Belle France would not allow Iran or any of its proxies to attack Israel and would always find us facing it if it resorted to force."

At the same time, Macron believes that "the urgent need is to avoid the escalation of tensions in the region," including an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

"It is in this context that the President calls for an end to arms exports intended for use in Gaza," Macron’s office continued. "We must return to diplomatic solutions."

"La Belle France is Israel’s steadfast friend," the Élysée concluded. "Mr. Netanyahu’s words are excessive and unrelated to the friendship between La Belle France and Israel."

On Monday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot will be in Israel to mark the October 7 attacks, part of a regional tour his office says is meant to push for deescalation.

"He will reaffirm La Belle France’s call for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas, including Frenchies Ofer Kalderon and Ohad Yahalomi," said the French embassy.

The United States provides about $3 billion in weapons to Israel each year.

In May, the State Department said it did not have enough evidence to block shipments of weapons but that it was "reasonable to assess" that Israel has in some cases used arms in ways inconsistent with standards of humanitarian law.

In September, Britannia said it was suspending some arms exports to Israel, citing a "clear risk" that they could be used in a serious breach of international humanitarian law.

Man charged over ‘Hamas is coming’ graffiti during July anti-Netanyahu protests in DC
[IsraelTimes] Zaid Mohammed Mahdawi, 26, faces one count of destruction of federal property amid raucous protests that featured antisemitic messaging.

A Virginia man was arrested Friday on a charge that he spray-painted graffiti on a monument in the nation’s capital during protests against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress in July.

Zaid Mohammed Mahdawi, 26, of Richmond, Virginia, was charged in a complaint with one count of destruction of federal property. He was among thousands of protesters who gathered in Washington, DC, on July 24 to condemn Netanyahu’s visit.

Some demonstrators who gathered outside Union Station that day removed American flags and hoisted Paleostinian ones in their place. Others burned flags and sprayed graffiti on structures in Columbus Circle, in front of Union Station.

Videos posted on social media showed Mahdawi climbing the statue of Christopher Columbus in the middle of Columbus Circle and using red spray paint to write "HAMAS IS COMIN" on the monument, according to an FBI agent’s affidavit. He also spray-painted an inverted red triangle above the slogan, the affidavit says, a symbol of support for Hamas

attacks.

The FBI later received a tip from a witness who knew Mahdawi from a Richmond gym and recognized his image in a police bulletin.

A group of protesters had a permit to demonstrate in front of Union Station, but the US Park Police said it revoked the permit after it couldn’t reach protest organizers that afternoon. The National Park Service estimated that it cost more than $11,000 to clean up and fix damage at the site.

"Politically motivated destruction or defacing of federal property is not protected speech, it is a crime," Matthew Graves, US Attorney for the District of Columbia, said in a statement.

Mahdawi was expected to make his initial court appearance in Virginia on Friday.

A Maryland woman was arrested last month on a related charge. Isabella Giordano, 20, of Towson, is accused of using red spray paint to write "Gazoo

" on a fountain in front of Union Station and spray-painting the base of two of the flagpoles in Columbus Circle.

Eight out of the 23 people arrested in the protest of thousands face federal crime charges.

Three people were charged with attempting to carry a dangerous weapon, three with attempted theft, one with two counts of assault on a police officer, and one with threats related to the protest, Fox reported.

The protest featured antisemitic and pro-Hamas slogans and signs, the vandalism of property, the torching of an effigy of Netanyahu, and the burning of an American flag.

Several protesters waved Hamas flags and wore the inverted red triangle Hamas uses to identify targets for its violence. One man waved a placard, "Allah is gathering all the Zionists for the ’Final Solution,’" a reference to the Holocaust.

The pro-Paleostinian, anti-Israel demonstrators filled several blocks as they weaved through the streets of the nation’s capital carrying Paleostinian flags, pro-Hamas flags and placards, and signs with messages such as "Arrest Netanyahu" and "End all US aid to Israel."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Report: Rigged walkie-talkies were used by Hezbollah since 2015, letting Israel eavesdrop
Oh my God. Allah must really, really hate them. Almost an entire decade, and they never had the slightest clue? Wow.
[IsraelTimes] The Washington Post delves into previously unreported details of the alleged Israeli operation that blew up pagers and walkie-talkies used by Lebanon’s Hezbollah terror group last month, injuring thousands and kicking off an ongoing flareup that has dealt immense blows to Hezbollah, including the killing of its leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The report — which cites Israeli, Arab and American security officials, politicians and diplomats, as well as sources close to Hezbollah — says the pagers were made in Israel and conceived by the Mossad spy agency, including a feature that caused many Hezbollah operatives to use the devices with both hands when they detonated, leading to them being rendered unable to fight.

After Mossad officials revealed the capability to elected officials on September 12 and the operation was eventually okayed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet, thousands of Hezbollah operatives got a message telling them they had received an encrypted message that requires pressing two buttons — practically forcing them to use both hands, and to be injured in both hands when the blasts occurred as they pushed the buttons.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahaha….. ow. You know how your belly hurts when you laugh too hard?
The report also reveals that the booby-trapped walkie-talkies — which were detonated a day later — had been used by Hezbollah since 2015, providing Israel continued real-time access into the terror group’s communications for many years, before the devices were weaponized in a more literal way.
And never the slightest hint. Impressive.
The tiny explosives in the pagers and the walkie-talkies were concealed in a way that taking apart the device — or even X-raying it — could not reveal the danger to the unwitting Hezbollah members, who readily embraced the Israeli-designed and manufactured gadgets, The Post reports.
Jewish technology is the best, donchaknow. Especially when you get it on sale, Xtra cheap.
It adds that the sales pitch that convinced Hezbollah to purchase the large-battery AR924 pagers earlier this year was made by an unidentified woman working with a Taiwanese firm who had not been aware of the Israeli plot.
So stay away from sales, or you too, may find yourself keying in your code with two thumbs one day soon.

Anti-Israel protester attempts to self-immolate outside White House
Pray for sepsis.
[IsraelTimes] An anti-Israel protester has attempted to set himself on fire during a rally near the White House in Washington, DC.

Almost two hours after the protest began, with over 1,000 demonstrators in attendance, a man — named online as Samuel Mena — approached the demonstration site and attempted to set himself on fire, AFP journalists have seen.

He succeeds in lighting his left arm ablaze before bystanders and police rush to his aid, dousing him with water and extinguishing the flames using their keffiyehs, traditional Paleostinian scarves.
Pathetic.
"I’m a journalist and we neglect it, we spread the misinformation," he shouts, in between screams of pain as the fire on his arm is put out.

Police say the man is being treated for "non-life threatening injuries."

Terror Networks
Foiled attack on Chabad Athens offers glimpse into Iran’s anti-Jewish terror plots
[IsraelTimes] Since 2020, Islamic Republic is thought to be behind at least 33 thwarted kidnappings and murders of officials, Jewish and Israeli targets in West — likely an undercount

As the Iran-Israel conflict intensifies, Tehran is roiling the West with a wave of attempted hits and kidnappings against targets in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and the United States. Washington and its allies have reported a sharp rise in such plots linked to the Islamic Theocratic Republic in recent years. Since 2020, there have been at least 33 liquidation or abduction attempts in the West in which local or Israeli authorities allege an Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
link, Rooters found in an examination of court documents and public statements by government officials.

Among recent alleged targets: a building that houses a Jewish center and kosher restaurant in downtown Athens.

From his perch in Iran, a Pak named Sayed Fakhar Abbas recruited an old acquaintance living in Greece and directed him to attack the site, Sherlocks allege in documents submitted to judicial authorities in the case and viewed by Rooters. Abbas told his contact that he was working for a group that would pay some 15,000 euros per kill.

In a January 2023 WhatsApp exchange detailed in the documents, the two men discussed whether to use explosives or arson in the attack. Abbas stressed the need to provide proof of casualties after the strike.

"There are secret agencies" involved, he said, without naming names. "Do the job in a way that does not leave any room for complaints by them."

The previously unreported documents include hundreds of pages of evidence gathered during Greece’s pre-trial probe, including witness testimony, police statements and details of WhatsApp messages. They purport to show how Abbas groomed his contact, a slim-built fellow Pak named Syed Irtaza Haider, as the two drifted between prosaic talk of life back home and plotting attacks.

Greek authorities arrested Haider and another Pak last year, saying police helped dismantle a terrorist network directed from abroad that intended to inflict "human loss." The two men face terrorism-related charges. They deny wrongdoing.

Haider, released from pre-trial detention this spring with restrictions, says he’s innocent. In an interview, the 28-year-old told Rooters he sent Abbas images of the building but intentionally stalled on carrying out any attack, hoping to get paid without harming anyone.

"It was all talk but no action," he said. His lawyer, Zacharias Kesses, said Haider "never participated substantially" in illegal activity.

Alleged ringleader Abbas also faces terrorism-related charges. Back home in Pakistain, he is wanted on suspicion of murder, a Pak police official said. Abbas remains on the lam and couldn’t be reached for comment. The third suspect also couldn’t be reached. That man has denied wrongdoing, according to Iraklis Stavaris, a lawyer who represented him when he was charged.

Greek police declined to comment. The case awaits a decision by judicial authorities about whether to proceed to trial, according to Haider’s lawyer.

The Mossad, which assisted the Greek probe, has said the planned attack was orchestrated by Iran as part of a multinational network operated from the Islamic Theocratic Republic. Israel declined to comment on the case or other Mossad activities.

Iran denies the Mossad’s claim. The operational techniques fit patterns seen in some other alleged Iranian plots, however. That includes the type of target — Israeli or Jewish civilians — and the use of hired non-Iranian assassins. At least two other cases tallied by Rooters allegedly involved Pak nationals.

Targets of other recent alleged plots include senior US officials as well as Iranian journalists and others in the diaspora. Former US president Donald Trump
...They hit him with slander, they impeached him twice. Nancy Pelosi tore up his State of the Union address on national TV. They stole an election and put his adherents in jail. They vilified him. They couldn't crucify him, so they shot him. Still, they can't keep him down...
was briefed by US intelligence on "real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him," his campaign recently said. Tehran has publicly denied involvement in some alleged plots in the US.

The shadow war is also playing out in Europe, site of most of the alleged plots tallied by Rooters.

"Since 2020, Iran has dramatically intensified lethal plotting against former US officials, Iranian dissidents and Jewish and Israeli interests in the United States and abroad," said Brett Holmgren, acting director of the National Counterterrorism Center, a US intelligence-coordinating agency.

Tehran has in turn accused its rivals of terrorist acts, pointing to killings of senior members of its security forces by Israel and the US.

The Iranian mission to the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
in New York told Rooters that the Islamic Theocratic Republic "harbors neither the intent nor the plan to engage in liquidation or abduction operations, whether in the West or any other country." It called such allegations "fabrications" meant "to divert attention from the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime" in the conflict in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...>
, has over the years repeatedly called for an end to Israel, and Tehran has been accused of antisemitism by US and other Western politicians. Iran has said it respects Judaism but opposes Israel.

The recent rise in alleged hit attempts comes amid escalating tensions between the Islamic Theocratic Republic and Israel.

Iran on Tuesday fired a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday, driving millions into bomb shelters, amid Israel’s escalation against Iran’s Lebanese proxy Hezbollah over the past two weeks. Israel also recently said it thwarted an Iranian-backed liquidation plot targeting prominent people.

HIRED ASSASSINS
The Rooters tally of Iranian plots includes incidents that were alleged or found to have been orchestrated by the Islamic Theocratic Republic, conducted on its behalf, or directed by someone in Iran or with close ties to it.

It is likely an undercount, because it captures only cases in which authorities have publicly alleged an Iran connection. Some governments are wary of publicly calling out Iran due to diplomatic considerations, said Matthew Levitt, director of the counterterrorism program at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy think tank.

Mossad director David Barnea said last year that over the previous year, Israeli intelligence had worked with international partners to disrupt 27 teams that tried to mount attacks abroad that were "orchestrated, criminal masterminded, and directed by Iran." Israel declined to provide details.

One key trend among the alleged plots reviewed by Rooters is the use of hired hit men, including organized criminals and gang members. Washington and its allies say the outsourcing is an attempt to obscure links to the Islamic Theocratic Republic.

In December, a German court sentenced a German-Iranian man to two years and nine months in prison for planning an arson attack on a synagogue on behalf of the Iranian state. After learning of the security measures around the synagogue in Bochum, he threw a Molotov cocktail at a building next door, the Higher Regional Court in Dusseldorf found. The man admitted throwing the device at the building, according to the court’s ruling.

In echoes of the Greek case, he was recruited by a man living in Iran, another German-Iranian who is being investigated in Germany for two unrelated murders there, the court found. It said the Iran-based man was following orders by Iranian "government agencies." Tehran has called the allegation "baseless."

In the US, there have been at least five alleged Iran-linked liquidation or abduction cases brought by prosecutors since 2020. Three involved murder-for-hire plots.

Prosecutors recently charged a Pak man who they say had close ties to Iran in connection with a foiled attempt to assassinate a US politician or government official in retaliation for the US killing in January 2020 of Tehran’s most prominent military commander, Qassem Soleimani
.

Former US president Trump was discussed by the suspect as a potential target, but the 2024 scheme wasn’t conceived as a plot to assassinate him, according to a person familiar with the matter, as Rooters previously reported.

After spending time in Iran, the suspect, Asif Merchant, flew from Pakistain to the United States to recruit hit men for the plot, according to a July criminal complaint. Merchant was indicted last month for allegedly attempting to commit terrorism and murder-for-hire. Merchant has pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
. His lawyer didn’t respond to requests for comment.

After Soleimani’s death, Iran’s Khamenei said harsh Dire Revenge awaited the "criminals" responsible. Iran’s UN mission told Rooters that Tehran’s policy is to lawfully prosecute those responsible for killing Soleimani.

’LETHAL OPERATIONS’
The target of another murder-for-hire plot in the US was an Iranian-American journalist and prominent critic of the Islamic Theocratic Republic.

Prosecutors allege members of an Eastern European crime group attempted to assassinate the journalist under the direction of a man in Iran. An Azeri living in the US allegedly received instructions and a $30,000 payment from the Iran-based man. The Azeri turned up at the journalist’s Brooklyn home with an AK-47-style assault rifle, prosecutors say.

The target, Masih Alinejad, told Rooters she was shocked when US authorities informed her the armed man had come to her house. She said she had heard someone at the door but hadn’t answered because she was engrossed in a video call.

Alinejad, a vocal critic of Iran’s head-covering laws for women, was previously the target of what prosecutors say was a foiled Tehran-backed kidnapping plot. Iran has denied that.

Alinejad, 48, said she was forced to abandon her home, leaving behind friends and neighbors for a series of temporary hideouts. She said she’s had to relocate nearly 20 times in recent years under US law-enforcement protection. In one long stint, she and her husband were separated from her stepchildren.

"We don’t feel safe anymore," Alinejad said of Iranian dissidents living in the US.

US prosecutors have charged three men in the murder plot. A fourth — the Azeri man, Khalid Mehdiyev — was named as a co-conspirator in an indictment filed last month. The Justice Department had no comment; Mehdiyev’s lawyer didn’t respond to comment requests.

Two of the other men have pleaded not guilty in the case. The third man faces charges of aiding murder and other crimes in his home country of Georgia, according to Czech authorities, who arrested him last year.

Matthew Olsen, the US assistant attorney general for national security, said Tehran has failed to hide its hand in the wave of plots on American soil.

"We’ve managed in a number of these cases to identify the malicious actors who are part of these proxy groups, but also to expose their direct ties back to the Iranian regime," Olsen said in an interview.

Among the Iranian officials named by Washington as responsible for directing attack planning is Mohammad Reza Ansari. The US says he is part of a Revolutionary Guards unit focused on "lethal operations" in the United States, Europe and elsewhere.

Ansari tried to kill two top former US government officials beginning in late 2021 with the help of another Iranian, Shahram Poursafi, according to Washington.

US prosecutors have charged Poursafi, who they say is a Revolutionary Guards member, with plotting to murder former US National Security Adviser John Bolton and another unnamed individual. Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo identified himself as the second target in one of his books.

Bolton, in an interview, said he believes he remains a target of Iran. "I think this is the most unprecedented campaign of attempted liquidations against American officials and former officials in our history," he said.

Iran has called the allegations "ridiculous and baseless." Poursafi remains on the lam. He, Ansari and the Revolutionary Guards didn’t respond to requests for comment.

HEIGHTENED TENSION
At least six of the plots tallied by Rooters in Europe since 2020 involve Israeli or Jewish targets. Nearly all of those allegedly involve hired hit men.

It was during this time that Abbas contacted Haider from Iran. Haider was living in Greece as an undocumented migrant, according to the legal records Rooters viewed. Haider told Rooters that the two knew each other from back home. Both came from the same town of Alipur in Punjab
...1. Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2. A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3. A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots
...
.
province, eastern Pakistain. Both are Shi’ite Moslems, the faith of Iran’s theocracy, he told Greek authorities.

Haider studied engineering in Pakistain and arrived in Greece in 2019, he told Rooters. He settled on the island of Zakynthos, a popular tourist destination. He lived in an apartment building with other Pak nationals and found work in an olive grove and other seasonal jobs.

Abbas also came from Pakistain. Authorities there suspect him of criminal masterminding an October 2021 abduction and murder, according to a police official who works in Punjab province.

Greek police identified an Instagram account in the documents under the name Shani Shah Sherazi that they say belongs to Abbas. The last post to the account was in mid-October 2021.

Abbas, a married father of two, crossed into Iran by road in February 2022 and hasn’t returned, a Punjab intelligence official told Rooters.

It was after arriving in Iran that Abbas recruited Haider. By April 2022, the two were in contact via WhatsApp, according to Haider’s testimony to the investigative magistrate and messages detailed in the legal documents.

In a November 2022 WhatsApp exchange, the two men discussed targets and methods of lethal attacks. Abbas told Haider to emphasize to other potential recruits what the group was willing to pay: "The reward per head is five million rupees" — roughly 16,000 euros at the time.

The men frequently discussed money. Haider badgered Abbas to send funds, according to the WhatsApp records. Abbas complained in December 2022 that he couldn’t pay his rent and had to borrow cash.

"When the job is done, for the rest of our lives, we won’t want money again," Abbas wrote to Haider that month.

A STAGED MURDER
As 2022 drew to a close, Abbas pressed Haider to obtain images of the Chabad of Athens. The two-story building, on a side street in a bustling part of the capital, houses the Jewish center, which has a prayer area and a kosher restaurant.

Haider enlisted the help of the third suspect to supply photos and video of the building in December 2022, the man testified to the magistrate. The third suspect also told authorities he was unaware the building was a Jewish center. The third man said it was only later that Haider relayed Abbas’s proposal to pay for killings, whereupon he immediately refused.

In early January 2023, Haider traveled to Athens and recorded videos of the Chabad of Athens and surrounding area, he testified. In forwarding the footage to Abbas, Haider described the area as full of shops and tourists. Abbas responded by saying "good job."

Their methods were amateurish at times.

Haider staged a fake murder in an apparent effort to hoodwink Abbas and his bosses. While in Athens, Haider convinced a Nepalese-born man to play the part of the victim in a mock execution, promising to pay him 2,500 euros, according to testimony by the Nepalese man contained in the documents. Haider dressed him in clothes stained in what he said was blood from a slaughtered goat, then told him to lie on the floor and play dead so Haider could video him, the man testified. The Nepalese man couldn’t be reached for comment.

Haider told the investigating magistrate that he staged the ruse because Abbas was pressuring him to kill people.

MOUNTING PRESSURE
By the second week of January 2023, Abbas and Haider were focused on the Chabad of Athens restaurant, Sherlocks allege in the documents. Abbas suggested arson, the messages indicate.

"Anything you can, do it quickly, I won’t be given much time," Abbas wrote on January 9.

"It will be done, I promise," Haider responded.

Within weeks, authorities swooped in. Acting on an anonymous tip, Greek police searched Haider’s apartment and detained him for possessing fake identity papers. Prosecutors filed terrorism-related charges the next month. In testimony after his arrest, Haider described the group Abbas recruited him into as a large but unnamed Iran-based organization.

As he awaits trial, Haider says he is working two jobs on Zakynthos — in a restaurant kitchen and as a security watchman. He has trouble sleeping. He faces prison in Greece, but if he beats the charges, home isn’t an option, he said, because he fears retribution from Abbas or his circle.

"I am afraid because I don’t know what will happen here," he said, "and I cannot go back to Pakistain."

#2  Hakoah Club

The soccer/football team? When was that? This has been going on pretty much since the Mad Mullahs took over.

Ahmad Vahidi, wanted in Argentina for blowing up the AMIA Jewish community center in Buenos Aires in 1994, killing 85 and maiming over 300, later served as Iran’s minister of defense, which shows where their priorities lie.

Two years earlier, also in Buenos Aires, Hezbollah set off bombs at the Israeli embassy that killed 29 and maimed 200 on Iran’s orders.

The Mullahs and their creatures have a real problem with Jews who think they’re just as human as anyone else. Every few years they either pull something off or get caught working on it, somewhere around the world, including here in America. And of course, they fund, train, and arm jihadis in Gaza (Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad), the West Bank, and Hezbollah in Lebanon for the purpose of a mass attack from all directions to crush Israel. Just because it hasn’t worked yet is clearly no reason for them to stop working their plan, and no reason to avoid bringing Sunni jihad organizations in on the fun, each happily using the other for their joint project of killing lots of Jews. Differences of doctrine only matter after the Jews have been put in their place.

Thousands join anti-Israel rallies across globe as anniversary of Oct. 7 massacres nears
Today and Monday should prove interesting all around.
[IsraelTimes] 15 arrested in London amid scuffles and banners declaring support for Hezbollah; marches held in France, Italy, South Africa, India, Philippines; pro-Israel rallies also planned

Thousands of pro-Paleostinian, anti-Israel protesters marched in London and other cities on Saturday calling for an end to Israel’s military operations against terror groups in Gazoo

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
, as the war between Israel and terror groups Hamas

and Hezbollah neared the one-year mark.

At the start of a planned wave of protests worldwide, pro-Paleostinian supporters gathered in cities in the UK, La Belle France, South Africa, Ireland, and Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
to demand an end to the conflict and denounce Israel.

Dozens of protests and commemorations are set to take place ahead of the anniversary Monday of Paleostinian terror group Hamas’s devastating October 7 cross-border attack on Israel which killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, triggering the ongoing war. The thousands of Lions of Islam who burst into the south of the country from the Gaza Strip also kidnapped 251 people who were taken as hostages to the Paleostinian coastal enclave.

Israel responded with a military offensive to destroy Hamas in Gaza and save the hostages.
Hamas is well on its way to being destroyed, but there are still almost a hundred hostages in Palestinian hands, some of them still alive.
The day after the Hamas assault, Lebanon’s Hezbollah began attacking along Israel’s northern border. Near-daily rocket and drone attacks were countered with Israeli Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s. Over the past two weeks, Israel massively intensified its campaign, eliminating most of Hezbollah’s leadership and destroying large amounts of the group’s weapons stockpiles.

This week Israel began what it said was a limited ground operation in southern Lebanon aimed at destroying infrastructure built for attacks on northern Israel and pushing Hezbollah away from the border.
Hezbollah will be destroyed, too, while those who hate Jews march and riot around the world, ineffectual to prevent it.
At the "National March for Paleostine" in London, attended by tens of thousands, familiar chants — "Ceasefire now," "Stop bombing hospitals, stop bombing civilians" and "From the river to the sea, will be free" — were joined by cries of "hands off Lebanon."

In addition, among the banners displayed at the march were ones reading "Hezbollah are not terrorists" and "I love Hezbollah," the UK’s Telegraph newspaper reported.
Jew-murdering terrorists openly and gleefully being cheered by Jew-hating terrorists who want the murder without having to get their hands bloody.
Supporters of Israel have questioned the intent of the mass rallies, which appear timed to mark the one-year mark of the Oct. 7 atrocities themselves, rather than the massive Israeli response in Gaza — which only started weeks later.
Yeah — about that…
London’s Metropolitan Police had said Friday it would not allow shows of support for Hamas or Hezbollah, both of which the UK has proscribed as terror groups, according to the newspaper.
And then their lips fell off, followed by both ears and an eyebrow.
Police said they were working to identify those who displayed support for banned
...the word banned seems to have a different meaning in Pakistain than it does in most other places. Or maybe it simply lacks any meaning at all...
organization
s, the report said.
CCTV will show all. But perhaps spraying the crowd with ultraviolet dye mixed in Israel’s famous skunkwater would have helped identify the miscreants, were the Metropolitan Police inclined to bestir itself instead of tracking down people who express opinions on social media.
"These images have been passed to officers, including those monitoring our camera systems. We are urgently trying to identify those involved so that action can be taken," police said.
I suggest midnight raids — that’s worked so well for the Israeli police that the West Bank did not rise up either this past year or the last time Gaza tried to launch a regional war against Israel, despite the best efforts of their Iranian and Hamas paymasters.
The Campaign Against Antisemitism watchdog said in a statement reported by the Telegraph that over the past year, "those in power have allowed support for Hamas to run rampant on Britannia’s streets week in, week out."

"Now, it seems we are seeing the results of their inaction as anti-Israel protesters have apparently moved on to defending Hezbollah, a proscribed antisemitic genocidal terror group."
Oh dear. Something about a petard, was it?
It claimed that the Metropolitan Police "has enabled Jew-hatred and support for Lions of Islam to be normalized on our streets."

Some of the London march’s organizers had said they planned to target companies and institutions they claimed were "complicit in Israel’s crimes," including Barclays Bank and the British Museum.
First they came for the Jews…
Police put in place a "significant" policing operation ahead of planned protests and memorial events.

The atmosphere was tense as pro-Paleostine protesters and counter-demonstrators, some holding Israeli flags, passed each other. Scuffles broke out as coppers pushed back activists trying to get past a cordon.

While the rally in London was largely peaceful, at least 15 people were arrested, including three on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and one on suspicion of supporting a proscribed organization.
You gotcher Antifa which isn’t proscribed, and Hamas and Hezbollah, which are, and no doubt a bunch of others. But none are the dreaded Rightwing Conservative, lover of God, country, and the opposite sex, so nothing will happen to them.
Ben Jamal, director of the Paleostine Solidarity Campaign in Britannia, said he and others will keep organizing marches until action against Israel is taken.
”Let’s make every day a 10/7! I deserve some captives of my own to torment, though they needn’t be Jewish — a dear little white Christian will do nicely.”
"We need to be out on the streets in even bigger numbers to stop this carnage and stop Britannia being drawn into it," Jamal said.

In Cape Town in South Africa, hundreds walked to parliament, chanting: "Israel is a racist state" and "We are all Paleostinian." Pro-Gaza marches were also planned on Saturday in Johannesburg and Durban.

In La Belle France, hundreds of people marched in Gay Paree, Lyon, Toulouse
...lies on the banks of the River Garonne, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in La Belle France...
, and Strasbourg to express solidarity with the Paleostinians, AFP journalists saw.

Several thousand people came together in the Swiss city of Basel for an anti-Israel demonstration, with marchers calling for a ceasefire, economic sanctions on Israel, and an end to Swiss scientific collaboration with Israel, the Keystone-ATS news agency reported.

In Rome, several thousand demonstrators gathered in spite of a ban by local authorities who refused to authorize protests in the Italian capital, citing security concerns. Protesters chanted "Free Paleostine, Free Lebanon," waving Paleostinian flags and holding banners calling for an immediate stop to the conflict. Some protesters, dressed in black and with their faces covered, threw bottles and paper bombs at the police, who responded with tear gas and water cannons, eventually dispersing the crowd.

Italian authorities believed that the timing of Saturday’s rally in Rome risked the October 7 attack being "glorified," local media reported.
Precisely.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi also stressed that ahead of the key anniversary, Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
is on high alert for potential terror attacks.

"This is not a normal situation... We are already in a condition of maximum prevention," he said.

In the northern German city of Hamburg, about 950 people staged a peaceful demonstration with many waving Paleostinian and Lebanese flags or chanting "Stop the genocide," the DPA news agency reported, citing a count by police. Two smaller pro-Israeli counterdemonstrations took place without incident, it said.

Several thousand protesters gathered peacefully at Gay Paree’s Republique Plaza in a show of solidarity with the Paleostinian and Lebanese people and to condemn Israel. Many were waving Paleostinian flags while holding posters reading "Stop the genocide," "Free Paleostine," and "Hands off Lebanon."

Pro-Paleostinian demonstrators also planned to join rallies in Washington, New York’s Times Square and several other cities in the United States as well as in other parts of the world, including Denmark and India. In the Philippines, dozens of left-wing activists protested near the US Embassy in Manila, where police prevented them from getting close to the seaside compound.

Other pro-Paleostinian protests were planned over the weekend and on Monday in cities including Sydney, Buenos Aires, Madrid and Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...

HIGH SECURITY ALERT
Security forces in several countries warned of heightened levels of alert in major cities, amid concerns that the escalating conflict in the Middle East could inspire new terror attacks in Europe or that the protests could turn violent mostly peaceful.

Anti-Israel protests have repeatedly taken place across Europe and around the globe over the past year and have often turned violent mostly peaceful, with confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement.

In Berlin, a march was scheduled from the Brandenburg Gate to Bebelplatz on Sunday. Local media reported that security forces have warned of a potential overload because of the scale of protests. German authorities pointed to increasing antisemitic and violent mostly peaceful incidents in recent days.

Earlier this week in La Belle France, Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau warned the country’s regional prefects, expressing concern about possible tensions and saying that the terrorist threat was high.

COMMEMORATIONS FOR OCTOBER 7 VICTIMS
Commemorations for victims of the October 7 attack are also scheduled internationally, including ceremonies in London, Washington, Gay Paree, Geneva, Athens and Berlin.

Several pro-Israeli demonstrations were expected to be held on Sunday.

An official anniversary ceremony will be held in Jerusalem on Monday.

President Isaac Herzog will lead a memorial service at Sderot, one of the cities hit hard during the onslaught by Paleostinian terrorists.

#6  Anon1, I know you mean well, but PLEASE, PLEASE STOP suggesting that Israel take the kids and raise them as Jews. The suggestion is evil.

First of all, look at Australia’s history of putting Aborigine kids in boarding schools to civilize them — how did that work out?

Second, Israel does not do forced conversion. That’s a Moslem thing and, back in history, a Christian one. For the past 2,000 years Jews have actively discouraged conversion, so the person has to really, really want it before the rabbis will let them start studying, and another 18 month to three years before they’ll agree the person has mastered the material enough to make a reasoned decision.

Finally, there are Jews still alive who had to deal with the reality of being forced to convert — I have an Egyptian-Jewish friend who was cross-adopted at birth, the standard practice then because back in the 1950s it was the law in Egypt that fatherless orphans of non-Moslem families were forcibly converted and given to Moslem families to raise, forever separated from the Jewish community, Not just Jews — Egyptian Christians are still dealing today with their sons and daughters being kidnapped off the streets in the villages, forcibly converted, then the boys put to slave labour and the girls taken in marriage.

Government Corruption
Assassination Of American Citizens
[X]
With just months left in office the Biden-Harris regime decided to update the 17 year old Bush-era directive against assassin@tion of Americans. Why would the regime feel the need to legalize killing Americans who threaten the foundations of our democracy?

In a chilling and unambiguous act, the Biden-Harris regime has recently updated the 2007 DoD Directive 5240.01, stripping away crucial protections that safeguarded American citizens from government-sanctioned assassin@tions. The original directive contained an explicit prohibition, stating, "Under no circumstances shall any DoD Component or DoD employee engage in, or conspire to engage in, assassin@tion." This unequivocal language has been removed, paving the way for a dangerous new precedent that authorizes the targeting of both American citizens and foreign nationals—both on domestic soil and abroad—under vague and ominous "special circumstances."

This egregious alteration marks a perilous departure from the established norms that have historically protected the civil liberties of U.S. citizens. The notion that the government can now potentially authorize the assassination of Americans under the guise of national security is nothing short of a constitutional crisis. It opens a Pandora's box where the executive branch could circumvent legal processes and judicial oversight, allowing for a chilling expansion of government power and an alarming erosion of individual rights.

The Biden-Harris regime’s willingness to authorize assassin@tion reflects a profound disregard for the sanctity of American lives and the rule of law. It exemplifies a troubling trend toward authoritarianism, where the state’s interests are prioritized over the rights of individuals. By enabling the targeting of U.S. citizens—often without the checks and balances that judicial oversight provides—the regime is setting a dangerous precedent that could lead to abuses of power reminiscent of the darkest chapters in our nation’s history.

Moreover, the implications extend beyond mere policy shifts; they signal a fundamental transformation in the relationship between the government and its citizens. The ability of the state to conduct targeted killings without due process undermines the very foundations of our democratic society, where the rule of law and the protection of individual rights have been paramount. It raises unsettling questions: Who decides what constitutes a "threat"? What criteria are used to determine when such extreme measures are warranted?

This new directive does not merely modify existing procedures; it fundamentally alters the landscape of governmental authority and individual rights in America. As we stand at this critical juncture, we must remain vigilant and resolute in our defense of civil liberties. The implications of the Biden-Harris regime’s actions demand serious reflection and urgent action from all who cherish the freedoms granted to us by our Constitution.

In conclusion, the recent updates to DoD Directive 5240.01 should serve as a clarion call for all Americans. The stripping away of prohibitions against assassin@tion represents not just a policy change, but a grave threat to the very essence of our democratic principles. We must rally together to demand accountability, transparency, and a reaffirmation of the rights that define our great nation. The time to act is now; let us not allow this regime to tread upon the rights of the American people without consequence.

Economy
What Happens to All the Unnecessary DEI Workers?
[AmericanThinker] Recall the adage to be careful of what you wish for... you might just get it. This sage advice is currently being demonstrated in the decline of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) crusade. Scarcely a week passes without major corporations and universities ending their DEI programs but unfortunately, these cutbacks hardly mean the end of DEI; it may even get worse. The reality is that the thousands of newly unemployed functionaries plus countless would-be DEI commissars are not about to disappear.

Particularly worrying that DEI functionaries are disproportionately middle-class African Americans, and unlike politically voiceless Kentucky coal miners now unemployed due to the push for green energy, they will not quietly go out to pasture on government doles.

Now for the "you may get what you wish for" bad news: the federal government is likely to pick up the slack, and the armies of now unemployed DEI functionaries and future racial preference experts will undoubtedly find a home in the vast federal bureaucracy. In a sense, this recalls the Great Depression, when the federal government served as the employer of last resort. Now, however, rather than build the next Hoover dam, these new hires will push Washington to ensure that that the federal workforce "looks like America" while prioritizing diversity, equity and inclusion.

The federal government has already gone on a DEI hiring spree. On the first day of his administration (January 20th, 2021), Biden issued an Executive Order, to "...Advance Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government."

The Executive Order hardly minces words. It began with, "Equal opportunity is the bedrock of American democracy, and our diversity is one of our country’s greatest strengths. But for too many, the American Dream remains out of reach." Nor is this effort just minor tinkering -- "Our Nation deserves an ambitious whole-of-government equity agenda that matches the scale of the opportunities and challenges that we face." It continues, "It is therefore the policy of my Administration that the Federal Government should pursue a comprehensive approach to advancing equity for all, including people of color and others who have been historically underserved, marginalized, and adversely affected by persistent poverty and inequality." Moreover, this will be transformation on a grand scale to include, "Black, Latino, and Indigenous and Native American persons, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and other persons of color; members of religious minorities; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) persons; persons with disabilities; persons who live in rural areas; and persons otherwise adversely affected by persistent poverty or inequality."
IMO, considering their level of competence, it would've been cheaper to pay all these people to stay at home.
The Biden/Harris administration then quickly issued a second Executive Order reaffirming the initial command: "As the Nation’s largest employer, the Federal Government must be a model for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, where all employees are treated with dignity and respect. Accordingly, the Federal Government must strengthen its ability to recruit, hire, develop, promote, and retain our Nation’s talent and remove barriers to equal opportunity."

This DEI mandate differs fundamentally from what occurs in private industry and higher education. Harley Davidson motorcycles may try to market its product to gays but if homophobic bikers decide to buy Hondas instead, the society-wide damage is minimal -- fewer Harleys will be sold and. critically, Harley Davidson cannot punish those who refuse to buy their product.

But the federal government can legally impose its policies. You can buy whatever motorcycle you wish, but if you are going to build a highway involving federal funds and refuse to hire the bureaucratically determined employees from "under-served populations," you will be denied the contract. But if you do get the contract but still reject government hiring mandates or misrepresent your new hires, you can be fined and, in extreme cases, imprisoned. Federal government DEI thus differs fundamentally from what occurs in the private sector and higher education, and it is hard to exaggerate the damage that can be inflicted by government officials embracing the DEI agenda.

...How can the DEI industry be dismantled? Or will we just shift the woke bodies from the private sector to the government? That many in this industry are well-educated African Americans only compounds the obstacles. In principle, this is no different from the job obsolescence endemic in the American economy ("creative destruction"). Remember the armies of typists, file clerks and telephone operators? Entire industries such as warehousing, auto manufacturing, and even the U.S. Postal Service have drastically reduced their workforce. Today’s DEI industry faces a similar crisis.

There is, however, some potential good news. The displaced worker problem is an old one, and government programs exist to retrain them. In 2016 Hillary Clinton suggested that former coal miners be taught coding to soften the pain of banning fossil fuels. Perhaps the federal government should adopt a similar program for surplus DEI functionaries. Far better than writing guidelines for how first responders must not ignore those drowning due to their race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual preferences.
How likely is that?

Actually, the government needs to be drastically downsized. The incompetence demonstrated means they don't need more people. At least give them the excuse that they can't really prioritize what to do by reductions starting at 10% in a slice that hits the management structure at the top to middle.

Israel says about 440 Hezbollah members killed since military's ground ops in Lebanon
[GEO.TV] The Israeli military said on Saturday that its forces had killed more than 400 Hezbollah fighters since Israel launched ground operations inside southern Leb
...an Iranian satrapy until recently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
on Monday.

"Since the beginning of the (ground) maneuver, forces have eliminated some 440 bully boyz from the ground and from the air, including 30 commanders of various ranks," military front man Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a televised briefing.

"This week we will mark the anniversary of the war and October 7. We are prepared with increased forces in anticipation for this day. They will try to carry out attacks on the home front," said the military front man.

The view from Israel:
IDF vows ‘no relief or respite’ for Hezbollah; 440 terror operatives killed in ground op

[IsraelTimes] Army strikes Hezbollah command room embedded in mosque within hospital compound as troops continue raids in south Lebanon; 3 lightly injured by Hezbollah rocket

The Israel Defense Forces continued its campaign to degrade Hezbollah in Lebanon on Saturday as it targeted command centers, weapons caches, tunnels and more, and as the military said it believed it had killed at least 440 Hezbollah operatives since the start of ground operations on Monday.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi said in a statement that Israel “must continue exerting pressure on Hezbollah and creating additional and lasting damage to the enemy. Without relief and without allowing a respite for the organization.”

The army said on Saturday said it had struck Hezbollah operatives overnight in a command center embedded in a mosque in southern Lebanon’s Bint Jbeil, located within the Martyr Salah Ghandour Hospital compound. According to the military, the operatives were using the command room “to plan and carry out acts of terror against IDF troops and the State of Israel.” The IDF said the drone strike was “precise” and based on intelligence.

Before carrying out the strike, the IDF said it sent text messages to residents and called up officials in the nearby villages “demanding that all acts of terror carried out at the hospital cease immediately.”

Meanwhile, three people were lightly injured as a result of a Hezbollah rocket impact in the northern Arab village of Deir al-Asad, police and medics said. They were taken to Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya. The Magen David Adom emergency service said it had treated 10 people for acute anxiety after the rocket hit Deir al-Asad.

Police said officers operated at several scenes of rocket impacts in Karmiel, where a rocket damaged an apartment building, and Deir al-Asad, where three people were lightly injured.

Earlier, two rockets were launched from Lebanon at the Haifa Bay area. The IDF said one of the rockets was intercepted, while the second struck an open area. There were no reports of injuries or major damage in the attack.

Around noon, the IDF said it had shot down a suspected drone launched from Lebanon over the northern community of Adamit. Sirens had sounded in the area amid the incident.

A barrage of five rockets was also launched in the morning from Lebanon at northern Israel, setting off sirens in many towns in the Jezreel Valley and Wadi Ara area, including Nazareth. The IDF said some of the rockets were intercepted by air defenses while the rest impacted open areas. There were no reports of injuries.

ARMY HITS HEZBOLLAH CACHES, SEALS TUNNEL
Troops of the IDF’s Commando Brigade and elite Yahalom Unit demolished several Hezbollah tunnel shafts that were used by operatives to get close to the Israeli border in southern Lebanon, the military said. In an evening press conference, IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari showed a video of a 250-meter-long Hezbollah tunnel that had been discovered by troops around some 300 meters from Israel’s border.

“These compounds were to be used by Hezbollah terrorists in a [potential] attack on the Galilee communities… yesterday we destroyed this tunnel,” he says.

The soldiers also located and demolished underground caches of weapons, observation posts, and rocket launching sites in villages in southern Lebanon. Dozens of Hezbollah operatives were killed in airstrikes directed by the commandos, the military added.

Separately, the IDF released footage of Hezbollah weapons captured by troops from the Golani Brigade in southern Lebanon. The brigade, operating under the 36th Division, has been working to clear southern Lebanese villages of Hezbollah infrastructure and weapons. The IDF said troops located caches of weapons and tunnel shafts and killed several Hezbollah gunmen during the operations. Some of the weapon caches, which were later destroyed, were located inside civilian homes, according to the military.

Hezbollah said Saturday that it was engaged in ongoing clashes with Israeli troops in the border area after earlier claiming it had forced Israeli soldiers to retreat there.

“Israeli enemy soldiers renewed an attempt to advance towards the vicinity of the municipality in the village of Odaisseh” and Hezbollah fighters confronted the attempt “and clashes are continuing,” the terror group said in a statement.

The group also said it had targeted troops in the Yaroun area and in two points across the border with rockets. There were no reports of Israeli injuries.

OVER 400 HEZBOLLAH GUNMEN KILLED
The IDF assessed Saturday that it had killed more than 440 Hezbollah operatives during ground operations in southern Lebanon, which began on Monday. The operatives, including some 30 field commanders, were killed both in airstrikes and in fighting with IDF troops, according to the military. The field commanders include officers in charge of various regional units and villages in southern Lebanon, the IDF said.

“We are pushing Hezbollah north. Some of the terrorists fled, and some are being defeated by our troops in close-quarters battles,” Hagari said in his Saturday night press conference.

The Israeli ground operations in southern Lebanon have been described by the IDF as “limited, localized, and targeted raids,” with the goal of demolishing Hezbollah’s infrastructure in the border area, especially in the villages adjacent to Israel, to enable residents of the north to return home. The raids are focusing on Hezbollah’s “centers of gravity” in southern Lebanon villages, where troops have so far found massive amounts of weapons. Israel says Hezbollah was planning a large-scale October 7-style attack on northern communities to massacre and kidnap Israeli civilians.
So glad the IDF has spiked their guns.
The IDF has said the operations in southern Lebanon will expand as needed, but that it still intends for the operations to end as quickly as possible — within a few weeks.
What is intended may not be what comes to pass, should there be need for an extended hunt, yes? Though first contact with the enemy reportedly occurred almost a year ago…
Amid the raids on Hezbollah’s smuggling routes, an Iranian aircraft suspected of ferrying weapons to the Iran-backed terror group made a U-turn in midair after IDF warnings.
”Run away! It’s the dread Pirate Roberts Soldiers Israeli! RUN AWAY!!!”
Data from flight tracking websites showed that the Qeshm Fars Air flight from Tehran, heading for Lebanon or Syria, went back on its tracks over Iraqi airspace on Saturday. The flight was allegedly carrying weapons for Hezbollah.

The IDF has said that its “military blockade” on weapons transfers to Lebanon will likely continue for a long time.
”Might as well shut down Tehran Airport, boys. We won’t be heading back there anytime soon.”
As part of the blockade, aimed at preventing Iranian arms from being delivered to Hezbollah, the IDF has struck all of the “military” crossings between Lebanon and Syria — including a major tunnel — and also hit a civilian crossing after accusing Hezbollah of using it to smuggle arms.

The IDF has also warned it would foil any attempts by Iran to transfer weapons to Hezbollah via Beirut’s civilian airport.

Separately, the IDF has allegedly struck several warehouses in Syria in recent days that were believed by the military to have been used to store Iranian weapons intended for Hezbollah.
Betcha there were great secondaries.
Meanwhile, the potential successor to slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has been out of contact since Friday, a Lebanese security source said on Saturday, after an Israeli airstrike that is reported to have targeted him. In its campaign against the Iran-backed Lebanese terror group, Israel carried out a large strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs late on Thursday, which, according to Israeli officials cited by Axios, targeted Hashem Safieddine in an underground bunker.

Channel 12 reported Friday night that security officials were increasingly confident he had been killed. The IDF said on Friday it was still assessing the Thursday night airstrikes, which it said targeted Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters.

Israel killed Nasrallah on September 28 amid a series of strikes that decimated the terror group’s top command.

The IDF and Shin Bet security agency also said in a joint statement Saturday that two senior Hamas commanders were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon. The first strike, which took place overnight in the Beddawi Palestinian camp near the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli targeted and killed Saeed Atallah Ali. According to the IDF and Shin Bet, Ali advanced terror attacks against Israel and worked to recruit more members to Hamas in Lebanon. Hamas confirmed Ali’s death, calling him a field commander.

The second strike, which took place near the Beqaa Valley town of Saadnayel, targeted and killed Mohammed Hussein al-Lawis. The IDF and Shin Bet described al-Lawis as Hamas’s “executive authority in Lebanon” and said he directed terror attacks in the West Bank. The statement added that al-Lawis was also responsible for “Hamas’s entrenchment inside Lebanon, using it to supply weapons for rocket attacks against Israel and in attempts to manufacture advanced weaponry.”

Hamas also confirmed al-Lawis’s death in a statement.

#3  Times of Israel — useful information, not worth a separate post tomorrow:

The IDF and Shin Bet said Saturday they had identified at least 12 terror operatives among the dead in Thursday night’s fighter jet strike in the West Bank city of Tulkarem, amid an international outcry over the high number of casualties in the attack.

The strike targeted a senior Hamas commander, Zahi Yaser Abd al-Razeq Oufi, who was planning a major terror attack on the anniversary of the October 7 massacres, according to the military.

The Palestinian Authority health ministry reported 18 dead in the strike, including eight and seven-year-old siblings Karam and Sham Abu Zahra.

According to the IDF, at least 12 of those killed in the strike were confirmed as members of the Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror groups. The two terror groups also announced the deaths of several operatives in the strike.

Since October 7, the IDF has carried out more than 70 airstrikes in the West Bank, using drones, attack helicopters, and fighter jets. Troops have arrested some 5,250 wanted Palestinians across the West Bank, including more than 2,050 affiliated with Hamas, since the beginning of the war.

According to the PA health ministry, more than 716 West Bank Palestinians have been killed in that time. The IDF says the vast majority of them were gunmen killed in exchanges of fire, rioters who clashed with troops, or terrorists carrying out attacks.

During the same period, 40 people, including Israeli security personnel, have been killed in terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank. Another six members of the security forces were killed in clashes with terror operatives in the West Bank.

Terrorist involved in attack on convoy escorting foreign dignitaries eliminated: ISPR
[GEO.TV] Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have bumped off a terrorist involved in a recent attack on a convoy escorting foreign dignitaries in Swat, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.

A statement released by the ISPR said that the terrorist was killed during a joint intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Charbagh area of District Swat
...a valley and an administrative district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistain, located 99 mi from Islamabad. It is inhabited mostly by Pashto speakers. The place has gone steadily downhill since the days when Babe Ruth was the Sultan of Swat...
on the night between October 4-5.

The attack on a convoy of foreign diplomats took place on September 22. Terrorists had used a roadside kaboom, which resulted in the martyrdom of a police officer, who was part of the security detail, while four others suffered injuries.

The diplomats, who remained safe, were visiting the Swat Valley area at the invitation of the local chamber of commerce to showcase it as a potential tourist destination.
Hahahahaha Mission not accomplished
The bomb had went kaboom! as the convoy was en route to the Malam Jabba hill station.

In its statement today, the military's media wing said that two hard boyz — including "Kharji ring leader Atta Ullah [aka] Mehran — were killed after an intense exchange of fire, while another terrorist was apprehended.

Atta Ullah, the ISPR revealed, remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area, including the attack on the convoy of foreign dignitaries.

The military's media wing said that sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any other "Kharji" found in the area.

"[...] security forces in coordination with law enforcement agencies are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country," the statement added.

Business in the Cross-hairs
[GatewayPundit] By the end of this year, every citizen in the United States will be required to hand over the personal data of their small business, S-corp, LLC, HoA, Board of Directors, Trustees, Real Estate Holdings, etc., to the Federal Government’s law enforcement database, operated by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCen) under the Department of Treasury. Welcome to the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA).

President Trump saw this act for what it was, just another way for the Federal Government to target the middle class and their political enemies. President Trump vetoed this unconstitutional power grab in 2019, but it’s back.

In an unprecedented act of overreach, the Federal Government is moving to aggressively collect data on all small business owners, who make up the backbone of the U.S. economy, for reasons that seem “murky” at best.

The sole goal appears to be setting up yet another new database of citizens to monitor, observe, and punish. The Feds are moving to implement the CTA at warp speed, and in seeming total secrecy, as the majority of the millions of small business owners in the United States have no idea this law even exists.

By not informing the public, it seems as if FinCEN’s true intent here is to “catch” millions of small business owners in “non-compliance” so that they can be investigated and audited by the Department of Treasury and punished.

Your mandatory compliance is required by January 1st, 2025, or you could face massive fines, and up to 2 years in federal prison.

After President Trump’s veto, it was quietly stuffed back into the pork of the Defense Authorization Act in 2021. And so, without a word to the American public, the largest and most aggressive, warrantless domestic spying program in U.S. history was enacted into law.

Never heard of it? Join the club! Millions of U.S. small business owners have no idea this law exists or that they are required to be in full compliance by January 1, 2025 or they will be subjected to hefty fines of $591 dollars per day.

Failure to self-report to FinCen’s law enforcement database carries up to 2 years in federal prison for being in violation.

Under the CTA, for profit business entities with fewer than 20 employees and less than 5 million in revenue are in the cross hairs. Yes, you read that correctly, if you make more than 5 million dollars annually, or employ more than 20 full time employees – you are EXEMPT from this invasive self-reporting requirement that could land you in prison.

That means, Blackrock, Amazon, Facebook, Pfizer Apple and ExxonMobil can operate “business as usual”, but “grandma’s donut shop” will be required to show her “paper’s please”, if she wants to make a living.

Business registration and entity creation is, and has always been, handled at the state level through state corporation commissions or like organizations.

Why is the federal government overreaching into a state rights issue and creating a massive federal database in violation of the commerce clause?

This means that even though you are a registered entity at the state level, if you do not self-report and register at the federal level, you will not be able to operate your small business.

Why aren’t the State Attorney General’s weighing in on this issue? I hope that is not a rhetorical question.

CTA is the last nail in the coffin of what remains of the illusion of a “free market” economy in the United States and it is a massive economic surveillance program with little to no discernable oversight.

People are slowly starting to take notice, so there is still time and hope. Just weeks ago the Community Associations Institute filed a lawsuit against the United States Department of Treasury challenging the application of the Corporate Transparency Act.

But the CAI, and other small business owners who have also filed suit, cannot do this alone.

A federal judge in Alabama has already ruled this law “Unconstitutional”, yet the Federal Government continues to move full speed ahead, and with little regard for the Constitutionality of this unprecedented overreach.

More interesting, still, is that the ruling of “unconstitutionality” was ruled to only apply to the plaintiffs in the case, setting a very dangerous legal precedent whereby if you complain you get to keep your Constitutional rights, but if you don’t, you lose them.

Both camps – republicans and democrats – need to weigh in on this before November. This is the most dangerous step the United States has ever taken towards nationalizing small private business ownership under a federal umbrella.

Small businesses employ 61.7 million Americans, totaling 46.4% of private sector employees. It’s time to stand up to this blatant attack on state’s rights that seeks to control and/or destroy the economic lifeblood of America.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
The IDF has begun a ground maneuver in the North of the Gaza Strip
[X]

Gaza: IDF expands humanitarian zone in south, as Jabaliya in north is encircled in new ground op including waves of airstrikes and artillery shells
IDF launches fresh ground op in Gaza’s Jabaliya as Hamas tries to regroup
The IDF’s 162nd Division launched a new ground operation last night in northern Gaza’s Jabaliya, the military says.

The IDF says the division’s 401st and 460th armored brigades encircled Jabaliya overnight, and troops are currently operating in the area.

The operation comes after the IDF says it has intelligence of Hamas operatives and infrastructure in the Jabaliya area, alongside efforts by the terror group to reestablish itself there.

As troops entered the area, the IDF says, it carried out a wave of airstrikes and artillery shelling, targeting dozens of Hamas sites in Jabaliya, including weapon depots, tunnels, cells of operatives, and other infrastructure.

“The operation will continue as long as necessary, while systematically striking and thoroughly destroying the terror infrastructure in the area,” the IDF says.

The 162nd Division was withdrawn from Rafah and the Philadelphi Corridor — the Egypt-Gaza border area — after five months, and it has handed over responsibility for the area to the IDF’s Gaza Division.

IDF says it is expanding humanitarian zone ahead of plans to evacuate all of northern Gaza
The IDF announces that it is expanding the size of the Israeli-designated humanitarian zone in southern Gaza, as it prepares to evacuate civilians from the entire north of the Strip.

The zone, where the vast majority of the Gazan population currently resides, has multiple field hospitals and most humanitarian aid is being delivered there.

The IDF says it has published maps for Palestinian civilians “highlighting potential evacuation areas in northern Gaza, including ‘block zones’ that correspond to neighborhoods and regions.”

The military says it is also opening up two evacuation routes for Palestinians, along the Salah a-Din road and the coastal road.

Some 200,000 Palestinians have been estimated to remain in northern Gaza, after early in the war the IDF called for the entire region to evacuate to the Strip’s south.

IDF says it struck terror command centers in Gaza mosque, school, took steps to not harm civilians
The Israeli military says warplanes conducted a pinpoint strike a short while ago on terror operatives who were at a command center in a compound that formerly housed the Ibn Rushd school in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza strip.

Additionally, the IDF says another pinpoint airstrike targeted a second Hamas control center in Deir al-Balah, located in the former site of the Shuhada al-Aqsa mosque — where Hamas medical officials have claimed 5 were killed and 20 injured.

The command centers were used by Hamas to plan and carry out terror attacks against IDF forces and the State of Israel, the army says.

IDF says it struck Hamas command and control post within former UNRWA compound
The IDF says it carried out a “targeted” airstrike on operatives at Hamas command and control center within a former UNRWA compound in the northern Gaza Strip’s Jabaliya.

According to a military statement, Hamas used the facility to plan and launch attacks against Israel and Israeli forces in Gaza. The statement says the IDF took some measures to reduce civilian casualties.

Illegal Immigrant Population More Than Quintupled In Swing States Since Last Election-The reason 12 million illegals have been flooding the country-a permanent democrat ruling class
[DailyWire] The data fuel concerns that mass illegal immigration could impact the presidential election

The illegal immigrant population has more than quintupled in key swing states since 2021, fueling concerns that mass immigration could impact the outcome of the November elections.
I thought it takes seven years residence to become a citizen. When did that change?
A MarketWatch report detailed the estimated increase in the illegal immigrant population in the seven battleground states that will help decide the outcome of the presidential election between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. The drastic surge in the illegal immigrant populations of key battleground states has added to concerns that the Democratic Party is using mass immigration to achieve political power, as recent immigrants vote overwhelmingly for Democrats.

Michigan, which carries 15 Electoral College votes, saw a 775 percent increase in its illegal immigrant population. President Joe Biden beat Trump in the midwest state in 2020 by roughly 150,000 votes, Trump won it in 2016 by just over 11,000 votes. Arizona saw a 734 percent increase in the number of illegal immigrants residing in the state, while Nevada experienced a jump of 562 percent. Biden beat Trump in Arizona by less than 11,000 votes.

Wisconsin, Georgia, and North Carolina saw increases in their illegal immigrant populations of 467, 401, and 446 percent, respectively. Pennsylvania, worth 19 electoral votes, witnessed a 241 percent increase in their illegal immigrant population.

The Daily Wire revealed that a network of non-profit organizations funded by leftist mega donor George Soros
...either Ernst Stavro Blofeld or Auric Goldfinger come true...
is working to “sway the outcome” of national and state elections by naturalizing new citizens and leveraging them as a new voter bloc.
Again, how so quickly?
One of the organizations behind the effort maintains demographic reports of key swing states, highlighting the impact that mass immigration could have on battleground states like Arizona and Georgia.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk warned that mass immigration could lead to “permanent one party rule” under the Democrats, who he says are doing “deliberate voter importation to swing states & fast tracking them to citizenship.”

“The only question is when (not if) enough migrants can vote to flip all swing states,” the billionaire wrote, highlighting how that 1986 amnesty turned California blue. “Unless Trump wins and reverses this scam, 2024 is the last election in America,” Musk added.

America First Legal is suing all 15 counties in Arizona for their alleged failure to remove illegal immigrants from their voter rolls.
Not legal, naturalized citizens after all, but illegals, illegally registered, planning to vote illegally.
”Every county in AZ is flagrantly defying its duty under state law to expunge illegal voters,” the group claims.

First jobs, now crime: Biden's FBI revises 2022 violence stats for the worse
[NY Post] This week President Biden once again took a victory lap on crime, trumpeting preliminary FBI data on trends in 2024.

"Communities across our country are safer now than when I took office," he bragged in an official statement.

Yet, with crime a central issue in this year’s election, he and the mainstream media have carefully ignored evidence that the FBI may be fudging its numbers — much like the way the Bureau of Labor Statistics massively overestimated the number of jobs created during the Biden-Harris administration.

Last month, new FBI data showed that reported serious violent crime (murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) fell by 3.5% in 2023.

But at the same time — and much more quietly — the FBI revised its earlier data for 2022, turning a reported decrease into a worrisome increase in violent crime.

Last year, the media trumpeted the FBI’s claim that reported violent crime had fallen in 2022 by 2.1%.

But now the FBI admits that violent crime rose in 2022 instead, by 4.5% — off by 6.6 percentage points.

These updated numbers resulted in a net increase in 2022 over 2021 of 80,029 violent crimes: 1,699 murders, 7,780 rapes, 33,459 robberies and 37,091 aggravated assaults.

It’s a concerning change regarding a highly politicized topic. A Gallup poll found in March that "crime and violence" was Americans’ second biggest concern, after inflation.

For a couple of years now, the mainstream media has been running headlines such as this from NBC News: "Most people think the U.S. crime rate is rising. They’re wrong."

USA Today’s take on the 2023 FBI crime data was typical: "Violent crime dropped for second straight year in 2023, including murder and rape."

Yet don’t expect the media to let people know that all the headlines over the last year were wrong — or that 2022’s increase was greater than the reported 2023 drop.

Perhaps the FBI’s newest numbers won’t be revised upward next year, after the election has safely passed.

But even if we take them at face value, it’s important to distinguish reported crime from total crime.

We have known for decades that most crimes aren’t reported to the police. That’s why the US Department of Justice provides a measure of total crime, which includes both reported and unreported crime.

And the results of the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics 2023 National Crime Victimization Survey, released in mid-September, tell a very different story.

Since victims don’t report most crimes, the NCVS interviews 240,000 people each year about their personal experiences.

Instead of the FBI’s 3.5% drop in serious violent crime, the NCVS found a 4.1% increase in violent crime victimization from 2022 to 2023.

While the FBI claims that serious violent crime has fallen by 5.8% since Biden took office, the NCVS numbers show that total violent crime has risen by an incredible 55.4%. Rapes were up by 42%, robbery by 63%, and aggravated assault by 55% during his term.

The increases shown by the NCVS during the Biden-Harris administration are by far the largest percentage increases over any other three-year period, more than doubling the previous record.

If we compare 2023 rates with 2019’s pre-COVID violent crime rates, the FBI’s new data show virtually no improvement — just a 0.2% drop — while the NCVS shows a 19% increase in that time period.

Much has been made of the recent decline in murder rates. But while murder rates fell by 16.2% from 2020 to 2023, they still exceed pre-COVID levels by a significant 9.6%.

The mainstream media’s treatment of these statistics has been shameful.

Even after the NCVS data was released and former President Donald Trump discussed them in a press conference, most outlets only noted the new numbers in "fact checks" that sought to dismiss their importance

The bottom line: Trump is correct that violent crime has increased significantly during the Biden-Harris administration.

He has also been correct to point out that many police departments no longer report their data to the FBI.

In 2023, 21% of departments including large cities like New York and Los Angeles, sent no crime figures to the FBI. Another 24% of police departments only partially reported crime data in 2022, the last year available.

The mainstream media refuses to mention any data that doesn’t fit their narrative.

But Americans in many parts of the country see the effects of rising crime every day, from locked-up products in the local Walgreens to constant news about assaults in the subway.

We know that our lives were not like this a few years ago.

Given certain key Democrat Metro's have stopped supplying crime data to the Fed's. Naturally the "offical" record shows a drop.

But reality is totally different.

BTW: Wally World, down here in Ga., has hired a private security firm to handle the massive crime problem. The firm is a lot more hands on, and many customers are thanking them for being there. 👍

#5  Super, it's actually worse than that. The DoJ "realigned" their criteria for recording crime stats a number of years ago in order to 'match' judicial outcomes.
Let's take a hypothetical: Perp kidnaps, rapes, and kills a woman. Murder, rape, and kidnapping is plead down to rape and kidnapping.
The murder disappears from the stats just like it never happened. Because making the paperwork match is what's important.

8 years for fake about Bucha
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited,

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin

[ColonelCassad] For a fake about Bucha, they gave 8 years in prison.

A Moscow court has sentenced Ol'ga Menshikh, a nurse at the Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Center, to eight years in prison for spreading fake news about the Russian army.

"The court found Menshikh guilty of committing a crime under paragraph "d" of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation). The court sentenced her to eight years in prison."

According to investigators, Menshikh posted false information about the actions of Russian troops in Bucha on her VKontakte page.

The woman will serve her sentence in a general regime penal colony. In addition, she was banned from engaging in activities related to the administration of websites of electronic or information and telecommunications networks, including the Internet, for three years.

The court clarified that the defendant spread false information on the VKontakte social network
.

She threw it on social networks for 8 years.

Bucha is the same cheap falsification as "NKVD shot Polish officers in Katyn". It's just that now the template Goebbels scheme has been applied to the Russian Federation,

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Just Like US Shoots Down Iranian Missiles, Russian Forces Shoot Down 13 Israeli Missiles Launched at Syrian Targets
[MilitaryWatchMagazine] The Russian Armed Forces have reportedly shot down 13 Israeli missiles over Syrian airspace, after the Israeli Air Force attempted to launch an attack on the city of Tartus in Western Syria on the Mediterranean coast. The report came from a number of Russian sources, but has yet to be confirmed. The Russian military presence in Syria is heavily concentrated in the Western province of Latakia, primarily around Khmeimim Airbase and a naval facility in the city of Tartus. Both facilities have gained growing strategic importance for Russia in recent years, with the former having been expanded to accommodate strategic bombers able to deploy nuclear capable missiles against NATO’s southern flank. Although Russia has refrained from deploying its air defence systems to intercept Israeli, Turkish and Western missile attacks in the past, the sensitivity of the city of Tartus and surrounding areas makes it highly plausible that the country’s air defence systems would be used to intervene.

Russian air defence systems deployed at Khmeimim Airbase include the long range S-400 and S-300V4, the medium range BuK-M2 and the short range Pantsir-S, as well as various electronic warfare assets. Patnsir systems have been used extensively in the past to intercept attacks from Islamist insurgent groups. Such groups have been supported extensively by Turkey, Israel and countries across the Western world. While Israeli cruise missile attacks on Syria have consistently used subsonic missiles, the S-400 and S-300V4 have proven capable of intercepting targets travelling at hypersonic speeds of over Mach 8. Both can have engagement ranges of up to 400 kilometres, depending on the missiles they are equipped with, allowing them to engage targets across Israeli airspace and beyond. If either of the systems did fire on Israeli missiles, it would likely be their first ever kinetic use in the Syria theatre. Russia depends very heavily on ground based air defence systems due to its lack of significant numbers of modern fifth generation fighters, the relatively small size of its fourth generation fighter fleet, and in Syria in particular the limited number of fighters it deploys in the theatre opposing the much larger fleets of the Western Bloc states, Israel and Turkey.

Although Russian air defences have not fired on Israeli, Turkish and Western aircraft and missiles violating Syrian airspace in the past, targeting data from their sensors has been used extensively by Syrian air defences to shoot down incoming missiles. Supplies of modern BuK-M2 medium range air defence systems to Syria has further increased interoperability. The Russian Air Force has notably on multiple occasions also deployed Su-34 and Su-35 fighters from Khmeimim Airbase to intercept Western, Turkish and Israeli aircraft over Syrian territory. One such incident occurred on August 26, 2019, when two Su-35S intercepted Israeli fighters over the Mediterranean Sea which were preparing for attacks on Syrian targets, forcing them to retreat. On September 10 that year Su-35s intercepted several Israeli aircraft over the Southern Syria and prevented them from launching airstrikes. Nine days later a pair of Su-35s prevented Israeli aircraft from attacking the suburbs of the Syrian capital Damascus. On November 12 Su-35s again intercepted an Israeli fighter to prevent airstrikes on Damascus, and on December 7 several Israeli aircraft were intercepted by Su-35s and forced to retreat during an attempt to bomb the Syrian Air Force’s primarily operational facility Tiyas Air Base. Incidents of interceptions after the 2010s in most cases remain unconfirmed.

British intelligence assesses the next steps of the Russian army after the capture of Vugledar
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[LB] The next target for the occupiers may be Velyka Novoslika in Zaporozhye.

by Ivanna Kapustyanska

After the capture by the Russian army of the city of Vugledar in the Donetsk region, Velika Novosilka in the Zaporizhia region will be the next target.

This was announced by the British Ministry of Defense with reference to an intelligence report.

Russia has made sporadic attempts to capture Vugledar over the past two years, suffering heavy losses. The complete capture of Vugledar took place after the resumption of the Russian offensive campaign in September 2024.

By the end of the month, Russian occupation forces practically surrounded the city, which led to the retreat of Ukrainian troops.

At the same time, the settlement of Velyka Novosilka in the Zaporizhzhia region may become the next target for capture by the Russian army.

"It is quite likely that in the coming weeks, Russian troops will try to continue advancing beyond Vugledar. In the west, one of the likely targets is the settlement of Velyka Novosilka, Zaporizhzhia region, located on the T0509 highway. eight km to the north is the settlement of Bogoyavlenka," the agency noted. .

Vugledar is a city in the Volnova district of the Donetsk region. The Russians literally erased it, destroying almost all the buildings. Despite constant attacks, the defenders continued to hold some positions in the city.
The heroic defense of the city was led by defenders of the 72nd brigade. Yesterday, Deep State analysts reported that the city was completely captured by the enemy. The brigade denied this: defenders still remained in positions in the city. They added that they were not given an order to leave.

On October 2, units of Ukrainian defenders defending Vugledar were allowed to leave the city in order to preserve personnel and equipment.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: October 5, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 21:36 Russians attacked a regular bus with a drone, which was moving through the territory of the Rechkovskaya community of the Sumy region; three passengers were injured, the prosecutor's office reported.

20:28 Zelensky thanked the military of the Special Operations Center "A" of the Security Service "for the destruction of Russian military logistics, and especially for hitting Russian military airfields" in an evening video address. The president also emphasized that "our task is to guarantee Ukraine reliable peace and long-term security. This is possible only on the basis of international law and without any trade in sovereignty or territory."

08:16 In Donetsk Oblast, on October 4, as a result of Russian shelling, one person was killed - in Chasovy Yar. Another person was wounded, reported the head of the OVA Vadim Filashkin.

08:04 The General Staff announced the estimated losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of October 5:

  • personnel - about 659,220 (+1280) people,

  • tanks - 8916 (+8),

  • combat armored vehicles - 17,658 (+31),

  • artillery systems - 19,037 (+72),

  • MLRS - 1216 (+4),

  • air defense systems - 970 (+5),

  • aircraft - 368 (+0),

  • special equipment - 3344 (+11).

07:49 On the evening of October 4, the enemy attacked an infrastructure facility in Nikolaev, using cruise missiles of the Kh-59/Kh-69 type. There were no casualties, reported the head of the OVA Vitaly Kim.

07:41 Air defense destroyed three of 13 attack UAVs (all in Odessa Oblast) at night, another ten were lost in the north and south of the country, the Air Force reported. In addition, Russia attacked at night with three Kh-59/69 guided air missiles, which, thanks to the work of electronic warfare systems, did not reach their targets.

07:32 In the Voronezh Region, UAVs attacked several "enterprises producing civilian products" at night, one person was injured, Governor Alexander Gusev reported. According to him, a fire broke out on the territory of one of the enterprises. Russian publics write that drones attacked two distilleries - in Stary Oskol and Novokhopersky District.

02:15 Russian media write that the "administration" building of occupied Gorlovka in Donetsk Oblast caught fire after an attack by at least three kamikaze drones.

00:23 Russia uses about 3 million artillery shells a year in the war against Ukraine, and half of them come from the DPRK, The Times writes, citing Western intelligence sources. And although many North Korean shells are faulty, it is their quantity that has allowed Russia to achieve stable success on the battlefield, the newspaper notes.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Black Karma of the 'Black Zaporozhians'. Who the defeated Ukrainian 72nd Mechanized Brigade is looking up to
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Denis Davydov

[REGNUM] After the fall of the "Ugledar fortress", a wave of "heartbreaking footage" of the soldiers of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians is spreading across the Ukrainian Internet. "On Instagram*, the brigade noted that the last days of heavy fighting were extremely exhausting for the soldiers. As a result of clashes with the occupiers, the soldiers were wounded. The footage in the brigade was captioned laconically: "These are very difficult days. Very!" - one of the leading news agencies reports.

Before this, there was a wave of reports from the field, when the "black Zaporozhians" told how they were criminally not given the order to retreat, how they suffered under the blows in the encirclement and went away across the bare steppe away from the terrible place. And all this together does not fit at all into the heroic image of the 72nd Mechanized Brigade, which since 2014 has been diligently forged for the average person.

"As part of the revival of the traditions of the national army," in September 2017, the fact of the Bila Tserkva brigade's origin from the 72nd Guards Motorized Rifle Division, a participant in the Battle of Stalingrad, was cancelled. By decree of President Petro Poroshenko, it was named in honor of the "Black Zaporozhians," a cavalry regiment of the UPR army, and then the image of the military unit was carefully squeezed into analogies with the "Black Hats." The most important part of the legend, of course, was that they fought "to the last Muscovite" and did not surrender.

"Let the memory of our glorious great-grandfathers, who defeated the Moscow regiments a hundred years ago, inspire the Cossacks and officers of the 72nd Brigade and other units to victories," says the appeal of the historical club "Kholodny Yar", which published a book of memoirs of former commanders and fighters of the Unified National Guard regiment especially for the education of military personnel.

The symbols were also similar - a human skull (albeit of a different style) and the slogan "Ukraine or death".

And karma did not fail to play its usual joke: having found themselves, in essence, in battles "honestly" for the first time, the standard heroes, "heirs to the traditions of the most combat-ready part of the UPR", immediately fell to pieces, because in fact their "glorious ancestors" also ended their combat path completely ingloriously. Having made a very specific choice, they received both Ukraine in all its current splendor, and death.

So, from now on, judging by everything, the fate of the 72nd will continue to roll along the narrow corridor of this choice.

"STEPPE FILIBUSTERS"
The unique style that distinguished the "Black Zaporozhians" in 1918-1920 arose entirely in the spirit of the times. In December 1918, at the Lozovaya station (present-day Kharkiv Oblast), the Zaporozhian regiment of the UPR army captured two carriages with light-grey and black cloth from the Makhnovists. In Poltava's Reshetilovka, in exchange for sugar, local tailors and shoemakers quickly made a uniform, in which the Black Hats paraded in Kremenchug on January 28, 1919, during an inspection by their superiors.

They rode around in this uniform for the next year and a half, turning it into rags. In August 1920, the regiment commander Pyotr Dyachenko, a former lieutenant in the Russian Imperial Army, awarded three St. George Crosses and a St. George Medal, tried to squeeze a similar set out of the new Polish owners, compiling a full description of it, but the Poles didn't really care about originality.

So, having joined the Polish army, the "blacks" along with the entire division changed into American-made uniforms, given to them by the quartermaster's office. The connection of times is much clearer here than in other cases. And modern pictures with dashing and stylish swordsmen are very conventional - in life they did not look like that.

As for the skulls on the banner and on the sleeves, Dyachenko, a participant in the Brusilov breakthrough, copied them from the shock battalions of the Russian army, since he himself commanded first a company in one, and then the entire unit in the fall of 1917.

He described his adventures on the fronts of the Civil War in a romantic style - like modern authors who romanticize the regiment, which "the Muscovites feared like fire." One of these "historians," Roman Koval, sows the story everywhere about how the commander, who was lying in typhus fever, rose by force of will, mounted his horse and led his lads in a furious attack with an outstretched bare hand - he did not have the strength to hold a sabre. And, of course, he defeated everyone.

And he had to get up, as Koval claims, because Dyachenko's deputy Karlis Brože was a good officer, " but he had one problem: he did not speak Ukrainian. And the Cossacks who came to fight for Ukraine could not accept the fact that they were commanded by a Russian-speaking person. Therefore, they were not very willing to go into battle under the leadership of Karlis Brože."

Thus, it turns out that it was very easy to deprive a unit of combat capability by commanding in Russian: “Attack!”

But as mounted pirates, the subordinates of the former Russian lieutenant really showed themselves to be quite good where it came to quick raids, surprise attacks and large-scale robbery. They suppressed the uprisings that broke out here and there, executing the Bolshevik activists, attacked small garrisons, and on June 2, 1919, as part of the 7th (Zaporozhian) Division, during the offensive on Proskurov (now Khmelnitsky), they broke through the front of the Nikolai Shchors Division, occupying the city.

On August 31, the Black Zaporozhian Cossacks cavalry regiment entered Kyiv, and the capital was lost to Petliura's UPR precisely because of them: on the orders of Colonel Vladimir Salsky (also a former Russian intelligence officer assigned to the General Staff), they tore down the tricolor on the city council building that had just been raised by the White Volunteer Army and threw it under the horses' hooves.

After this, a shootout began, during which ten Cossacks were killed, and all the Petliurites were caught and driven out of the city.

The last heroic act of the "blacks", who found themselves in the "death triangle" between the Polish troops, the Red Army and Denikin's forces at the end of 1919, was the First Winter Campaign of the Active Army of the UPR. For five months, 417 Dyachenko fighters raided Central and Southern Ukraine, constantly decreasing in size, in order to eventually break out of encirclement and join Petliura's army, which was operating as part of the Polish Army.

Their subsequent fate also gives all sorts of allusions to the future of today's fighters for Ukraine. Having encountered Grigory Kotovsky's cavalry brigade near Birzula (now Podolsk) in a full-fledged combined arms battle, they were unable to do anything. And after the end of the Soviet-Polish war, all the Ukrainian Revolutionary troops were placed in internment camps, behind barbed wire, as no longer needed.

Specifically, Dyachenko found a place for himself in the Polish army, from there he easily transferred to serve the Germans, served in the SD, collaborated with the OUN* and ended his career as part of the SS Galicia division, as part of which he surrendered to the Americans.

Once you betray, it doesn’t matter who you serve, as long as they give you a nice uniform.

"HEIRS OF GLORIOUS GREAT-GRANDFATHERS"
Since 2014, the 72nd separate mechanized brigade has been visible everywhere, having already begun combat operations against its own citizens in Donbass in mid-April. The famous footage of an infantry fighting vehicle ramming a street barricade in Mariupol at full speed shows the equipment of the Belotserkovsky motorized riflemen.

In that lead vehicle was the current Brigadier General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatiy, who was then a major and commanded the 2nd Mechanized Battalion. He led the killing of the Mariupol residents who had risen up against the coup in Kiev, and then the 72nd visited Saur-Mogila, the Donetsk airport, and Avdiivka. Incidentally, it was there that the brigade accepted its new black banner, which members of the public organization "Regiment of Black Zaporozhians" - descendants of the Cossacks of the 1st Cavalry Regiment, interned in Poland and remaining there - came to present to them.

Its path through Donbass can well be called bloody and in the spirit of the "Black Zaporozhians", whose name they did not yet bear at that time - like cavalry, it rushed around cities and towns on vehicles, sowing death and destruction. But this is what the creators of the new ideology oriented them towards, declaring that "it is the Army of the UPR that should become a model and a guide for the modern Ukrainian army... The domestic armed forces must acquire a Ukrainian meaning and a primordially Ukrainian appearance."

In keeping with this image, in late February and March 2022, it was the "blacks" who blew up the dam on the Irpen River, flooding the coastal villages and taking up defensive positions on the eastern bank. They probably also destroyed the bridge linking the cities of Irpen, Bucha, and Gostomel with Kiev, blocking the evacuation route for civilians.

So that later the whole world would publish heartbreaking photos of courageous Ukrainian soldiers carrying children and cats through the concrete ruins they themselves created.

Later, the brigade rushed in all directions, from Kherson to Bakhmut, as if spiritually inheriting the "great-grandfathers" - plugging holes. The "black Zaporozhians" stood up for a full-fledged defense only in Ugledar. And now, two years later, it has finally become clear what they really are.

Soldiers from the 72nd Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces tell of a chaotic retreat, without orders to withdraw. They walked for several days, exposed to Russian drones and artillery, many were killed or wounded, many more are missing.

As the scandalous journalist Vladimir Boyko, who serves in the territorial defense, told the world, out of fifty reinforcements sent to strengthen the defense of Ugledar, only four made it to their positions, but they also deserted during the first rotation.

"50 recruits arrived in the brigade, mostly aged 52-56. 30 of them were immediately sent to rear units and hospitals, since they were unfit for service on the front lines due to health reasons (because the TCC was fulfilling the conscription plan and mobilizing the sick). Of the remaining 20, 16 servicemen deserted on the second day. Thus, out of a reinforcement of 50 people, four were sent to the positions, and after the first rotation, these four also deserted," writes Boyko.

He calls the loss of the city a "local collapse of the front" and writes that a similar situation with the replenishment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is observed along the entire line of conflict. And it will only get worse.

The menacing skulls on the chevrons and the "connection of generations", characteristically, do not work: no one is going to fight "to the last Muscovite" and is in no hurry to sacrifice themselves. All the talk about the "competent actions of the 72nd separate mechanized brigade, which held the defense near Ugledar since August 2022" is meaningless for the simple reason that all this time the city was inside the general defense system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The front collapsed - and the "legendary warriors" immediately found themselves in operational encirclement and whined that the command does not protect them.

Like the army of the Ukrainian People's Republic once upon a time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reformed in a racially correct ideological spirit, have neither their own resources, nor the support of the population, nor a single clear goal of their struggle. It is clear who to fight against, but no one knows what for. And just like in the Civil War, the village uncles who were forcibly put into service run away at the first opportunity.

In full accordance with the scenario of more than a century ago, the current "black Zaporozhians", who refused the honor of being the successors of the heroes of Stalingrad, will face the same path as Dyachenko's comrades. Defeat, retreat to the West, and then service in foreign armies, as long as they are fed. And the chroniclers, who will certainly tell about the exploits of the "glorious knights", will also focus on the chevron skulls and fantastic stories about how the commander in a feverish delirium stretched out his hand: "A horse for me, a horse!"

After all, they perfectly disguise the shameful emptiness in the place where honor, conscience and common sense should have been.

CHUCK DEVORE: Comparing Biden-Harris bungled Helene response to past disasters
[FoxNews] Media attacked Bush over Katrina, but ignores Biden-Harris failures as Americans suffer.

For five days, the U.S. Army’s helicopters stayed on the ground.

The Biden-Harris administration’s response to Hurricane Helene has been slow, weak, and deadly—but, except for Fox News, you wouldn’t know it from the major media.

Hurricane Helene made landfall on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 11:10 p.m.

The following Thursday, a reporter asked President Joe Biden about the storm zone. Biden responded, "Oh, storm zone? I don’t know which storm you’re talking about…" Biden then recovered and claimed, "They are getting what they need, and they are very happy across the board."

The day before, five full days after the storm dumped up to 30 inches of rain in some mountain locations, Biden ordered 1,000 active-duty troops to provide assistance with 22 helicopters as well as tactical vehicles from Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), some 250 miles east of hard-hit Asheville, N.C.

There are about 50 utility helicopters in the 82d Airborne Division’s Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Liberty. The military installation in Fayetteville, the U.S. Army’s largest, has almost 100,000 active-duty and reserve soldiers available for presidential call-up—so, Biden sent 1% of Fort Liberty’s personnel and less than half of the base’s much-needed helicopter inventory.

Meanwhile, the federal government’s emergency management arm, FEMA, warned it’s out of money because it has spent $1.4 billion on aid to "sanctuary cities" swamped with illegal aliens and mostly fake asylum seekers. FEMA said it sent 150 generators to the stricken region. But there are at least double that number of generators available for purchase within an hour’s drive of any typical city.

Displaced citizens in the Appalachian region hit by Helene are at risk of illness due to contaminated water—and in danger from human traffickers who prey upon the confused, weak, and vulnerable. The hundreds of military police from Fort Liberty’s 503rd Military Police Battalion and the 82nd MP Company could prove a powerful deterrent in shelters—if they were activated.

So, how does the Biden-Harris disaster response compare to other recent events? The media and Democrats heaped scorn on President George H.W. Bush’s federal response to the L.A. Riots in 1992 and then again on President George W. Bush’s Hurricane Katrina actions in 2005.

I was a California Army National Guard captain during the 1992 L.A. Riots. Within three days, we had 10,000 Guard soldiers on the ground, quelling looting and arson. Rioting started the evening of April 29. The following evening, a National Guard MP company was on the scene. The next day, 4,000 Guard soldiers were in the city and President Bush ordered active-duty Army and Marine forces into action as well as 1,000 federal law enforcement officers. By May 2, there were 10,000 Guard members and 3,500 active-duty soldiers and Marines keeping order in L.A.

So, the elder Bush ordered 3,500 active-duty personnel into L.A. three days into the emergency while Biden took five days to decide to send 1,000 soldiers to help.

Hurricane Katrina made landfall on Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, around 4:30 a.m. At Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco’s request, President George W. Bush had issued an emergency declaration on Saturday, Aug. 27, two days before landfall. Within a day of impact, U.S. Coast Guard helicopters were already working, rescuing some 350 people from rooftops. Bush viewed the devastation from the air on Aug. 31 and was roundly criticized for flying over, rather than seeing things on the ground. On Sept. 1, Bush asked Gov. Blanco to allow a federal takeover of the relief efforts, which by then included 15,256 Guard members expected to grow to more than 40,000 personnel from neighboring states.

Bush visited the scene of the disaster only two days after landfall. Two days after Helene, Biden was on the beach in Delaware, "commanding," as he claimed, with two hours of phone calls. Vice President Kamala Harris was fundraising on the West Coast.

The U.S. military’s chain of command for this disaster runs from Biden to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to the commander of the U.S. Northern Command. Biden’s slow and confused response to Hurricane Helene—taking two more days to come to grips with the crisis than did his two recent predecessors—speaks of a president who is out of touch and not up to the job.

The Biden-Harris administration’s sluggish and half-hearted disaster response has put hundreds of thousands of Americans at risk in Helene’s swath of destruction. Biden’s lackluster engagement in the most powerful office on the planet puts the entire nation in peril as the world spirals into chaos while Harris focuses her time and energy on running to replace Biden while hiding from the media.

Former Ukrainian Armed Forces General Reveals Details of Zaluzhny's Injury as Commander-in-Chief
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Valeriy Zaluzhny received a penetrating wound last year while in office. This was stated on October 4 by former Ukrainian General Serhiy Krivonos.

According to him, the shell hit the command post in the Zaporizhzhya direction, where Zaluzhny was located, immediately after a call from an unnamed official from the office of the President of Ukraine.

"Zaluzhny picked up the phone, revealed his location via radio signal, and a minute and a half later a guided missile flew there. And Zaluzhny got a hole in his body," the publication "Strana.ua" quoted Krivonos as saying.

He noted that the commander-in-chief's life was saved by the good fortification of the premises.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, Zaluzhny has stopped appearing in public since early May 2023, which has triggered a series of rumors about his death. They began with the general's suspicious refusal to meet with the chiefs of the general staff of NATO member countries.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry then stated that Zaluzhny continued to perform his duties. Later, the hacker group "Joker DNR" reported that the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was seriously wounded in a missile strike on the Ukrainian Armed Forces headquarters in early May.

The media published information about Zaluzhny’s possible retirement due to a head injury and shrapnel wound.

Only on June 6, the head of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, published a photo with the commander-in-chief from a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

On February 8 of this year, Zaluzhny was dismissed by Zelensky from the post of commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Oleksandr Syrsky was appointed to his post. Then, on May 9, Zelensky dismissed the former commander-in-chief from military service due to health reasons and appointed him ambassador to the UK.

The Russian army struck the command post with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine immediately after a call from Zelensky's office.

Zaluzhny miraculously did not die - former commander of the Special Operations Forces Krivonos

▪Valeriy Zaluzhny was seriously wounded on the Zaporizhzhya front last year, said General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Krivonos and the former MP Borislav Bereza.

➖"Zaluzhny picked up the phone, revealed his location via radio signal, and 1.5 minutes later a guided Russian missile flew there. And Zaluzhny got a hole in his body. The only thing that saved him was that the room was well fortified," Krivonos says.

▪In May 2023, rumors really were circulating online about Zaluzhny being wounded and disappearing from the media, the Ukrainians did not deny them.
