#5  I keep reading that the majority of the hospitalized COVID cases were vaccinated.

Before the vaccine most of the hospitalizations were among the elderly and co-morbid. But somewhere around 80% of the elderly have now been vaccinated, and most of the hospitalizations are not among that cohort, suggesting that most of the time the vaccine works well enough to achieve the primary purpose of ending the massacre of our old and sick.

It would be interesting to know what common factors hold among those for whom the vaccine is not working well enough: certain co-morbidities, low vitamin D or other nutrients, excess or lack of certain intestinal flora, something genetic? It doesn’t appear to be race, or we’d be hearing screaming about it. Because the majority of the population has now been vaccinated and/or infected, and most of them have not thereafter needed to be hospitalized. Nor needed hospitalization before, for that matter.

At the moment one of my foster daughters is sick with the thing, following her baby’s infection, and also a 65 year old friend who was sick enough to go to the emergency room, but not sick enough to need a long hospitalization.

most of the hospitalizations are not among that cohort
I'm on the mailing list for an assisted living/memory care/skilled nursing facility with a lot of residents. They are nearly 100% vaccinated and have been that way since approximately March 2021. Almost no COVID-19 hospitalizations in that cohort since then. They send out email notices of their Covid status weekly. Their staff are not nearly as well vaccinated, and some of the staff flips positive every couple weeks, which means some kind of limitation to outside visitors for some of the units for a while. Even that is much rarer than it was before March 2020. Residents are mostly all getting boosters now.

#10  powerlingblog had some numbers on this the other day

Vaccines do work. They don't work perfectly or even as well as we thought they would work.

Nonetheless, as bubba implies, everyone who is above, say 30 should get them unless they have already contracted the disease or for some other special reason. Above 50 and you should also get the booster.

Below 30 is where the CDC says yes and other people say 'maybe'.

Arms manufacturer to open $9.5M SC facility, hire 55 people
[The State] A California-based arms manufacturer will open a $9.5 million facility in Greenville and hire 55 people.

S.W.O.R.D. International primarily makes small arms for the U.S. military and law enforcement agencies and was started by Jeremy Elrod, a former Army Ranger who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The company is incorporated in California, and will continue to do the majority of its research and development in its facility in Sparks, Nevada. Key employees will remain there as well.

Greenville will handle some research and development, all sales and customer support, distribution and production.

On the company’s website, Elrod said he started the company in 2010 because, "I was shocked to see the lack of reliability, durability and functionality of our primary small arms system. Loose tolerances, poor materials and antiquated manufacturing techniques made for a sub standard weapon system."

South Carolina Republican introduces bill to decriminalize marijuana at federal level
[NBC] Rep. Nancy Mace, a first-term Republican from South Carolina, introduced a bill Monday to decriminalize cannabis at the federal level, which she hopes will garner more GOP support for the legalization movement.

"This legislation, I believe, has something good for everyone, whether you're a Democrat or a Republican," Mace told reporters outside the Capitol, where she introduced her States Reform Act.

Even though it is legal in 18 states, with medical use permissible in 37 states, marijuana is illegal under federal law.

California Gas Prices Soar to Record High (video)
[Breitbart] The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in California reached a record high on Monday.

The statewide average increased to $4.68 a gallon Monday, according to figures from the AAA, Fox 11 reported.

"This new average surpasses the previous record of $4.67 set in Oct, 2012," the outlet continued:
The average price of regular gasoline in California is $1.27 higher than the current national average of $3.41, according to AAA. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose seven-tenths of a cent Monday to $4.672, moving within 3.3 cents of the all-time high.

The average price rose 1.4 cents Friday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 7.9 cents more than it was one week ago, 20.8 cents more than one month ago and $1.523 higher than one year ago.

In a social media post on Thursday, oil and refined products analyst Patrick De Haan said average gasoline prices in California were at all-time record highs, "beating out both 2012 and 2008 records. $4.68/gal today statewide average":

Gunmen kill 15 in latest attack in Nigeria's northwest
LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — Gunmen have killed at least 15 people in Nigeria’s northwest, the Sokoto state governor said, the latest incident in a spiral of violence in Africa’s most populous country.

The gunmen stormed communities in Sokoto state and raided houses from Sunday night into Monday morning, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal said in a statement, just days after nearly 30 people were shot dead across remote communities across Nigeria’s troubled north.

At least 13 people were killed in Illela, a town near the border with neighboring Niger and some 97 kilometers (60 miles) from the state capital, he said, adding that two others were killed in Goronyo, about 76 kilometers (47 miles) east of the state capital.

The violent attacks across the northwest and central parts of Nigeria have killed hundreds of people this year.

Most affected communities are in remote areas that don’t have adequate security or telecommunications, such as Goronyo community where more than 40 people were shot dead a month ago when assailants opened fire at a crowded marketplace.

The gunmen are mostly young men from the Fulani
... a peculiarly brutal tribe of Moslem herdsmen infesting Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and probably other places that are light on law and order and heavy on tribal identity...
ethnic group who had traditionally worked as nomadic cattle herders and are caught up in a decades-long conflict with Hausa farming communities
..the Hausa of the Sahel are the Fulani’s traditional prey for fun and profit, despite both communities being Moslem...
over access to water and grazing land, according to authorities and security analysts.

The attacks have taken on ethnic and religious dimensions, with clashes often reported in volatile states between the herdsmen and local communities. The assailants — called bandits in Nigeria — are "graduating into terrorists," Gov. Tambuwal said.
We’ve had the Fulani linked to Boko Haram for some years, a mutual support arrangement.
The widespread banditry in the northwest is in addition to the Islamic extremist insurgency in the northeast that has lasted more than a decade. Some of the bandits — who often operate in bands of more than 100 — are now joining forces with the extremist rebels, security analysts and residents have told AP.

The Ten Stages of Genocide Are Hitting a Little Too Close to Home
[American Thinker] As we wait to see what our commie-fascist ruling class has planned for us next, this might be a good time to pull out Gregory H. Stanton's "Ten Stages of Genocide" as a helpful reminder for keeping track of how things are "progressing" (pun intended). Stanton, an academic and the founder of Genocide Watch, organized a sobering list of red-flag actions undertaken by governments over the last century on their way to committing mass murder. See if any of them rings any bells with how supposedly "free" governments are behaving today.

(1) Classification: Governments begin dividing people into "us" versus "them."

Hillary Clinton calls Trump voters "deplorables." Barack Obama disparages freedom-minded Americans as racists and rubes who "cling to guns or religion." Joe Biden says America is plagued by "white supremacy." Joint Chiefs chairman Mark Milley believes that the military must tackle "white rage." Attorney General Garland thinks parents who object to government schools indoctrinating their children with racial Marxism and hyper-sexualized curricula are "domestic terrorists." Black Lives Matter and Antifa rioters and looters are lauded as civil rights heroes, while Trump voters who protest for election integrity are denounced as "insurrectionists," hunted down by the regime enforcers at the FBI, and left rotting behind bars with little in the way of due process. Those who object to governments' totalitarian plans to spend hundreds of trillions of dollars and take control over free markets in order to combat the weather are ridiculed as "climate deniers." Those who believe governments' authoritarian reactions to the China Virus have been more harmful to humanity's well-being than the virus, itself, are demonized as "selfish," "ignorant," and "anti-science" villains. And now, even after denying that they would ever institutionalize "vaccine passports" as requirements for travel outside the home, governments are, in fact, remaking their nations into "papers, please" police states.

It is truly becoming US vs. Them.
I have seen families where the Kids are picking Social and Political agendas over Family and refusing Grand Parents any access to see their Grand-kids.

It is almost always the Liberal Kids doing the refusing.

It seems conservatives parents are FAR FAR more understanding and tolerant of their kids, than these Liberal social media trained Kids are of their parents.

I am starting to seriously wonder if in another generation their offspring, will be turning their parents in for citizen re-Education and training ?

#2  Future Red Guards. Been there, done that, comrades.

On 5 August 1966, a group of high school girls forced the school's Vice Principal to bang a dustbin lid and shout: "I am an advocate of the capitalist way. I am a counter-revolutionary revisionist. I deserve to be beaten."

The punishment was organised by first-year girls, eager to demonstrate their revolutionary fervour. The teacher was struck from all sides with sticks and chair legs. Others kicked her.

-Great Cultural Revolution
No, We Don't Actually Need to Be More Like Europe
[National Review] t Bloomberg, Allison Schrager hopes that our current supply-chain issues serve to alter Americans’ behavior. "Suddenly," Schrager writes, "Americans can’t spend like they used to. Store shelves are emptying, and it can take months to find a car, refrigerator or sofa. If this continues, we may need to learn to do without — and, horrors, live more like the Europeans. That actually might not be a bad thing."

Counterpoint: Yes, it would.

I don’t want to live in Europe, or to "live more like the Europeans do." This is not because I am inflexibly "anti-European." There are many wonderful things about Europe, and I will happily wax lyrical about them when asked. But, having spent a great deal of time in both places, I can assure you that it is considerably easier to live in America than it is to live in Europe, and that one of the main reasons for that — beyond Americans’ being so stonkingly rich — is that Americans are far, far more demanding of their marketplaces. For Americans to look at their temporarily broken supply-chain system and to conclude, "Oh well, I suppose it is for the best, let’s leave it there," would be both profoundly out of character and profoundly destructive to our way of life. We do not, under any circumstances, need to "learn to do without."

It is fashionable in certain circles to deride American "consumerism" as being in some way gauche. Indeed, Schrager herself comes close to this when she complains that Americans have a bad habit of buying "stuff we don’t really need." But this is an argument that makes sense only if we accept that other people — be they academics, politicians, or columnists for Bloomberg — are in a better position to determine what constitutes "stuff we don’t really need" than are individual American citizens. In a free market, there is no such thing as "need"; there is demand, and there is supply. Schrager praises America’s tendency to "come up with new products and better ways of doing things," but she implicitly narrows her praise to those "products" and "things" of which she personally approves, as if there exists a list somewhere at Harvard on which the iPhone has been marked "Worthy" and Hot Pockets have been marked "Uncouth." Certainly, I am baffled by the way in which many Americans choose to spend their money, just as I am baffled by people who have musical or gastronomical tastes that are completely at odds with my own. But it’s a free country, and providing that they aren’t hurting anyone, the private choices of other American consumers are precisely none of my business. You have a buyer and a seller? Good luck to you.

Kampala blasts: Explosions hit Ugandan capital
[BBC & Twitter] Two explosions have shaken the centre of the Ugandan capital Kampala.

One blast took place near parliament, with the other close to the city's police headquarters.

At least 24 people are being treated in hospital, the health ministry said. Witnesses told of carnage at the scene, with cars ablaze and windows shattered.

The cause of the blasts was not immediately clear but the Ugandan authorities have blamed previous bombings on Islamist militants.

LIVE UPDATES
Ugandan forces are part of an African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia fighting al-Shabab, an insurgent group allied to al-Qaeda.

Last month, the Islamic State group said it was behind an attack on a bar in Kampala which killed a 20-year-old waitress.

Proceedings in parliament have been called off and MPs advised not to come to the building following Tuesday's blasts.

Cars parked near parliament went up in flames while the explosion near the police station shattered windows, senior police officer Edward Ochom told AFP news agency.

"What we can say [is] this was an attack but who is responsible is a matter that is under investigation," he added.

Health ministry spokesman Ainebyoona Emmanuel said that of those being treated in hospital, four were in a critical condition.

Oh, C'mon: Former Staffer Blames White House 'White Man' Bias for Harris' Disastrous Vice Presidency
[Red State] What can be said about Kamala Harris? Printable, I mean.

This hapless pretender simply cannot get out of her own way. Every time she opens her mouth; every cringeworthy staged event; every time she busts out a creepy Pepé Le Pew French accent in France, and every time she lets loose one of her ridiculous trademark cackles at the most inappropriate times, Kamala Harris proves again that she is the most ineffectual vice president in modern history — if not of all time.

As RedState reported on Sunday when even CNN — AKA: "The Most Trusted Names in News" — runs an unfavorable exposé on Harris, one wonders — this one, anyway — what’s up with that? When is the next shoe going to drop and what will that next shoe be?

Regardless of what that second shoe might be, the real question seems to be whether Harris will even survive her vice presidency, as suggested by my colleague Joe Cunningham on Monday.

And as RedState’s Brandon Morse reported on Monday, the panicky excuses from the Kamala apologists continue to pile up at a fever pitch. Because you see, none of this is Kamala’s fault, America. Zero.

#9  Harris is an adrift 3rd party now, she was chosen as a useful idiot/race symbol for the Biden Puppet Show but her flaws are now legion. Obama 3.0 and the Kalorama Kompond Central Committee are the architects of the rush to Marxist government and the ever deepening infestation into the key organs of governmental power. Bidet/Jill and the kleptocrats of the grifting Bidet family are seeing the sweet ride ending soon, and the Cackle-Jackal is now viewed as a liability by both sides. The end of the window for this radical change has always been the looming 2022 elections and the risk of loss of the House and Senate. If the races were tighter, they might have felt comfortable with the 5-7% cheating edge they displayed in 2020. But we saw in Virginia and other places that after seeing the size of the public distaste for the Marxist shift they were hesitant to expose their ramped up election cheating tools for down ballot races. So McAuliff was cast adrift and thrown the lifeline to some sinecure in DC.
--- BUT, remember that behind Champ, ValJar, Brennan and the rest of the Marxist coup team, looms the real force-majeure, the Chinese Communist Party! Their money, tech infiltration, and flat out subversive revolutionary skill, under girds the whole effort to destroy the main enemy by any means short of kinetic force. And so far, they are still invisible to the idiot masses in all of blue and some of red-state America. This struggle is existential for the last best hop of Western Civilization...

Europe
Iraq to begin repatriation flights for Belarus migrants on Thursday, Germany denies plans to pick them up
[Rudaw] Iraq on Thursday will bring home a first flight of migrants colonists who want to return from the Belarus-Poland border, the spokesperson to Iraq’s foreign ministry told state media on Sunday.

"Iraq will conduct its first flight for those who are willing to return on the 18th of this month," Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed al-Sahaf told state media, noting that these returns are voluntary.

Thousands of Iraqis, among them many Kurds, have left their homes this year, taking costly and often dangerous journeys in the hopes of reaching Europe. Many leave the country in search of welfare boodle opportunities free from corruption, political tensions, and instability that have left young people with little hope for their future in Iraq, but they found themselves on the cold border between Belarus and Poland, trapped in a standoff between Minsk and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
At least 8,000 Kurds have traveled to Belarus with the hopes of gaining access to western Europe, which has fortified itself against the wave of migration and accused Minsk of luring desperate migrants colonists to the border in protest of sanctions.

Iraq’s foreign ministry has registered 571 Iraqi citizens in eight camps along the border, Sahaf said, but "it is not possible to count the full numbers because the border strip extends 680 kilometres and there are some who are reluctant to return."

Dramatic scenes of migrants colonists camped out in the cold on the Belarus-Poland border have made headlines over the past week. Aid agencies say at least 10 migrants colonists have died on the border, AFP reported. On Friday news broke of the death of a 14-year old Kurdish boy.

The United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
, which visited the border last week, said many children and women, some of them pregnant, are among the migrants colonists. "The makeshift camp at the border with no adequate shelter, food, water and medical care in freezing temperatures is not a safe and suitable place for people and could lead to further loss of life," the UN’s refugee agency (UNHCR) said on Friday.

Many migrants colonists say Germany is their preferred destination and the German Minister of State in the Foreign Office Niels Annen spoke with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday. "We will do everything together so that the [Belarusian President Alexander] Lukashenko regime no longer lures people to the EU borders with false promises," he tweeted after the phone call.

Barzani in a tweet on Sunday said that he is "deeply concerned by the plight of our citizens, as well as the many others on the EU borders" and is working "with our partners to ensure their safety and security."

The prime minister added that the migrants colonists have been "deceived by traffickers; exploited by networks abroad."

Germany denies rumors that they will pick up migrants in Belarus

[Rudaw] The German foreign office said that the country will not pick up migrants colonists on the Belarus border into Germany in a statement addressing rumors implying otherwise on Sunday.

"Rumours that Germany is planning to send busses to pick up persons from Belarus through Poland to Germany are false. Whoever spreads these lies puts people in great danger," the German Federal Foreign Office said on Twitter.

German Minister of State in the Foreign Office Niels Annen said after a phone call with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani that they "will do everything together so that the Lukashenko regime no longer lures people to the EU borders with false promises," referring to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

According to senior military sources, the officers successfully repulsed an attack waged by the al-Qaeda linked group in Hudur, the regional capital of Bakool region in Somalia after hours of a fierce shootout.

The town is guarded by Æthiopian National Defense Forces [ENDF] who serve in the African Union

A military official from Sector 60 said five bully boyz were killed and six others critically injured. The SNA soldiers and their partners did not suffer any casualties, the official added without giving many details.

The military also went on to display bodies of the bully boyz in the town as they appreciated residents for being active in the war against al-Shabaab bad boys. They asked locals to work closely with officials.

Two People Wounded In Kabul Blast: Officials
[ToloNews] At least two people were maimed in a roadside kaboom blast that occurred on Monday morning in Police District 5 of Kabul city, officials said.

Initially there was a report of no casualties, but the front man for the Kabul security department, General Mobin Khan, confirmed that two people were maimed in the blast.

"The security is ensured for 99 percent of Kabul. The security of the journalists and the residents is ensured," said General Mobin Khan, a front man for the Kabul security department.

An explosion occurred in Kabul on Saturday as well.
The Saturday one was claimed by ISIS-K.
Kabul residents speaking to TOLOnews urged the officials of the Islamic Emirate to prevent the security incidents.

"A loud noise was heard. One individual riding a military vehicle and another who was a member of the Islamic Emirate were maimed," said Fazal Ahmad, a witness.
"I was drinking tea when the earth-shattering kaboom occurred. I don’t know what happened next," said Farid, an eyewitness.

On Saturday a number of people were killed and maimed in a vehicle explosion.

The officials said that the vehicle went kaboom! after it caught fire.

No one claimed Monday's attack.

Earlier Rooters reported that the attack on Saturday in Kabul was carried out by ISIS.
The Times of Israel adds:
A roadside bomb blew up on a busy avenue in the Afghan capital Kabul today, wounding two people, say police.

The bomb detonated as a taxi was passing by in the Kota-e Sangi district of western Kabul. The Taliban spokesman for Kabul police, who goes by a single name Mobin, says two people were wounded. Witnesses say one was a woman in the taxi and the other a man passing by.

There is no immediate claim of responsibility.

SDF Media Center recorded new violations by Turkey's armed factions in areas of north and northeast Syria
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported new Ottoman Turkish violations against the fronts of Tel Abyad, Tel Tamr and Ain Issa, north and northeast Syria on Monday.

"This morning, the Ottoman Turkish occupation shelled the villages of Tel Amir, north the town of Zergan, with heavy weapons, forcing villagers to stop working in their agricultural fields," the SDF Media Center said.

"The villages of al-Mu’allaq, al-Dibs, west of Ain Issa, and the M4 Highway were also bombed by the Ottoman Turkish occupation," it added.

The frequent provocations and shootings of the mercenaries of the occupation forces prevented the residents of Umm al-Baramil village, east of Ain Issa, to reach their farms and secure their daily livelihood, according to the SDF center.

The Media Center pointed out that the villages of the Salibi, Qez’ali silos and al-Mukhtariya, west of Tel Abyad, north Syria, were shelled with bursts of machine guns, and several failed sniping operations that targeted the farmers.

These violations, that are constantly committed by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
and its affiliated armed factions, "pose unprecedented threat to the de-escalation agreement and create extra difficulties for the residents in making their living in areas near the occupied areas," the SDF Media Center noted.

Appeal fails for terrorism convict
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The Military Court of Appeal refused to mitigate the sentence of Murad Abdullagadzhiev, a resident of Dagestan, who received 11 years in prison for taking the oath of the Islamic State terrorist organization banned in Russia and for participating in its activities.

As the "Caucasian Knot" has reported , on August 12, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don  sentenced a  resident of Dagestan Murad Abdullagadzhiev to 11 years in a strict regime colony, accused of involvement in the activities of the Islamic State terrorist organization.

The defense appealed against the verdict, considering it too harsh. Nevertheless, the collegium of the Military Court of Appeal in the Moscow Region also found Abdullagadzhiev guilty today and left the verdict of the Southern District Military Court unchanged, a court official told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has not yet received any comments from Murad Abdullagadzhiyev and his representatives regarding the decision of the court.

According to the investigation, in February 2020, Abdullagadzhiev, while in the Stavropol Territory, took the oath to the head of the Islamic State international terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, recording the reading of the oath on his mobile phone and sending this audio message via a messenger to another person for subsequent transmission the head of the IG, and then took part in its activities until the arrest by law enforcement officers on April 2, 2020.

Rostov military court convicts man in terrorism case

[KavkazUzel] A military court in Rostov-on-Don fined Ruslan Khagabanov, a resident of Kabardino-Balkaria, with a fine of 360,000 rubles, having found him guilty of justifying the terrorist attack.

Investigators charged Ruslan Khagabanov, a 23-year-old native of Nalchik, with publicly justifying terrorism using the Internet, that is, part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code, the maximum punishment for which is up to seven years in prison.

"It was established that in 2018 the defendant in Nalchik published a commentary containing the justification of the terrorist act through a page he administers in one of the social networks," the press service of the Southern District Military Court told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

Ruslan Khagabanov was sentenced to a fine of 360,000 rubles. He admitted his guilt, added the press service of the court. The verdict has not entered into legal force and can be appealed by the parties in the Military Court of Appeal.

"Caucasian Knot" has not yet received any comments from Ruslan Khagabanov himself or his representatives regarding the verdict of the court.

The " Caucasian Knot " also reported that in November 2020, a blogger from the Krasnodar Territory, Valery Klimenchenko, was sentenced to four years and a month in prison, accused of justifying a terrorist attack in the Arkhangelsk FSB. In March, a military court of appeal upheld the verdict.

Shell Plans UK Relocation, Sparking Dutch Outrage
[An Nahar] Energy giant Shell on Monday announced plans to switch headquarters from the Netherlands to the UK and drop Royal Dutch from its name in a major shakeup that angered the Dutch government. The plan, hailed by UK Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng as "a clear vote of confidence in the British economy" post Brexit, will see Shell switch its tax residence and top executives to Britannia.

The move deprives the Netherlands of its biggest company, which has for more than 130 years been a symbol of Dutch entrepreneurial spirit and is headquartered in The Hague.

"We are unpleasantly surprised by this. The cabinet deeply regrets this intention," Dutch Economic Affairs Minister Stef Blok said on Twitter.

"We are in talks with Shell about the implications of this move for jobs, critical investment decisions and sustainability. Those are hugely important," Blok added.

The Dutch business association VNO NCW said: "This is a huge bloodletting for the Netherlands."

Shell in a statement said the changes were designed to strengthen the company's "competitiveness and accelerate both shareholder distributions and the delivery of its strategy to become a net-zero emissions business".

It insisted that "the simplification will have no impact on" a Dutch court ruling that the company slashes greenhouse gas emissions.

The legal decision this year was a landmark victory for climate activists, while Monday's announcement comes after activist investor Third Point demanded Shell be broken up, bolster low-carbon investment and return more cash to shareholders.

#15  The hurricane that hit Galveston, Texas on September 8, 1900, was not just the worst disaster for the U.S. in all of the 20th century. It was the worst natural disaster in U.S. history, and remains so to this day. At the time, there was no technology available to detect a massive hurricane, so the people of Galveston only knew that a storm was coming, but had no idea of its magnitude. The storm hit Galveston as a Category 4 hurricane, with a tidal surge of fifteen feet. When the storm finally subsided, the city of Galveston was completely obliterated. According to survivor testimony, there were corpses everywhere. The authorities declared martial law and forced men, most of them black, to collect the bodies of the dead, and put them on barges. The bodies were subsequently dumped into the Gulf of Mexico, though some of them ended up washing up on shore, and so it was decided to burn them in funeral pyres. Looters, nicknamed “ghouls”, were to be shot on sight. The casualty count from the Galveston Hurricane is estimated to be as low as six thousand people and as high as twelve thousand. Either way, it is the highest number of people to die in any natural disaster in U.S. history.

Mutual bombardment between government forces and armed opposition factions in Syria's northwest
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

On Monday evening, Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition factions renewed bombing Syrian government forces’ sites in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo, northwest Syria, while the latter responded by bombing the former’s locations.

"The armed factions shelled the government forces’ positions near Miznaz, the Regiment 46, and Besatroun, west of Aleppo," North Press reported military sources in the opposition.

"The government forces’ sites near of al-Malaja and al-Dar al-Kabira in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, were shelled by the factions with mortar shells," the sources added.

The government forces responded by shelling the factions’ positions in the villages of Tedil, Kafr Nouran, Tuqad and Kafruma, west of Aleppo, with artillery and missiles, according to the same sources.

"The factions’ points in the villages and towns of Sfuhen, al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid and the outskirts of Kansafra and al-Bara in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, were bombed by the government forces stationed at the surrounding checkpoints," the sources said.

The mutual bombardment between the two sides coincided with intense flight of Russian drones over Idlib and Aleppo regions, according to sources specialized in tracking military flights.

For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Ottoman Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

EU Imposes Sanctions on 4 New Syria Government Ministers
[An Nahar] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
on Monday imposed sanctions on four ministers recently appointed to the Syrian government, blaming them for playing a role in the continued repression on civilians in the war-torn country.Asset freezes and travel bans in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
were imposed on the four, who include the ministers for internal trade, information and labor.

The four ministers were accused of sharing "responsibility for the Syrian regime's violent mostly peaceful repression of the civilian population," the EU said.

The new sanctions bring the number of people in Syria targeted by EU measures to 287. A further 70 "entities," including organizations, banks and companies, are also on the blacklist, typically for benefiting from their ties with the regime.

The EU first started imposing the sanctions in 2011. The measures also include a ban on oil imports, investment restrictions, a freeze on central bank assets held in the EU, and export limits on equipment and technology that could be used to crack down on civilians or monitoring their phones and internet.

Jebran Bassil asked Monday why Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh
...Governor of Lebanon'scentral bank, Banque du Liban since April 1993. Salameh was appointed Governor by decree, approved by the Council of Ministers for a renewable term of six years. He was reappointed for four consecutive terms; in 1999, 2005, 2011 and 2017. Salameh chairs the Banque du Liban Central Council, the Higher Banking Commission, the AML/CFT Special Investigation Commission and the Capital Markets Authority. Salameh is a member of the board of governors at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and at the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF). Salameh is the longest-serving central bank governor in the world....
hasn’t been prosecuted in Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...In 2020 Hezbollah blew up a considerable portion of Beirut and many of its inhabitants when its ammonium nitrate facility exploded. They blamed it on... somebody else. It wasn't them though. Trust them on that. And it ain't never coming to trial...
yet.

"Is it acceptable for Salameh to be prosecuted and interrogated in many European countries but not in Lebanon?" Bassil questioned in a tweet.

"He is the person most involved in serious money laundering crimes," he said.

"Is this how we restore confidence in the Lebanese pound?" Bassil decried.

Horrifying moment Chinese officials in Hazmat suits break into a woman's home and beat her corgi to death while she was in quarantine as part of a brutal bid to eliminate Covid
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Chinese health workers wearing hazmat suits have beaten a corgi to death in the name of pandemic protocols while the dog's owner was undertaking Covid quarantine.

The government officials bashed the animal's head with a crowbar after breaking in to the home in Shangrao in southeastern Jiangxi province on Friday, shocking video shows.

The corgi's owner, named only as Fu, was undergoing compulsory quarantine in a nearby hotel at the time, even though she is negative for Covid and the dog was never even tested.

The killing was the latest example of the horrifying lengths China is going to in order to achieve zero Covid.

Chinese authorities are under pressure to curb rising infections as the Delta variant continues to spread. So far, around 1,300 cases have been recorded across two thirds of the country's provinces.

The Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq issued an arrest and investigation warrant against Ismail Musbah al-Waeli, the brother of the former governor of Basra,.

Sources said that the warrant was issued because of al-Waeli’s last announcement against the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan, of "collaborating with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and armed factions in Iraq."

It is worth noting that Ismail al-Waeli is the brother of the former governor of Basra, Muhammad Musbah al- Waeli, who was assassinated in an armed attack in 2012.

Criticizing investigative judge Tarek Bitar, the sources said the judge must "work according to the law and the constitution, not more and not less."

"The President made an oath to preserve the constitution, whereas the judge who was appointed by them has violated four articles of this constitution," the sources charged.

Bitar "acknowledged the judiciary’s jurisdiction to hold the accused judges accountable, but at the same time he does not want to recognize the powers of parliament," the sources added.

[An Nahar] A "scenario" is being prepared to dismiss port blast lead investigator Judge Tarek Bitar, MTV said. The TV channel learned that to dismiss Bitar, Prime Minister Najib Miqati is relying on two lawsuits against the state filed by ex-PM Hassan Diab and ex-minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq.
Tradesies? I'll give you a judge for an information minister. That way the thingy with the Saudis goes away, and the investigation into who blew up the port is shuffled off for another day, probably far down the road.
"The government will return to the political stage once Bitar is dismissed and Information Minister George Kordahi is sacked," MTV added.

Sources close to Miqati told the channel that Miqati "won’t chair a Cabinet session as long as Information Minister George Kordahi will read its decisions."

Seems to be a common pastime for these scum.

Huber: incarcerated nearly a half dozen times going all the way back to 2012 for repeated violent crimes including Strangulation and Suffocation (pled guilty to these in 2012), for Battery, Domestic Abuse and False Imprisonment of members of his family. It's reported that in the course of Huber's 2012 felony attack on his family:

- Huber held a 6-inch-long butcher knife to his brother's neck, telling his brother he would “gut him like a pig.”

- Huber choked his brother and dug his nails into his neck, preventing his brother from breathing for 10 seconds. Huber then stabbed his brother in the ear.

- After this, Huber threatened to burn the house down and kill his mother, grandmother and siblings. Huber finally left on his skateboard.

In 2017, Huber was in an argument with his sister. His mother called the police and told them that “(Huber) has a history of abusive behavior.” Huber karate kicked his sister, causing her to fall down in pain. Huber told the police that it wasn’t “wrong” to hurt his sister.

Rosenbaum: Pima County (Arizona) Clerk of Courts documents confirm that Rosenbaum was charged by a grand jury with 11 counts of child molestation and inappropriate sexual activity with children, including anal rape. The victims were five boys ranging in age from nine to 11 years old. He was convicted of two amended counts as part of a plea deal.

The AZ Department of Corrections confirms that while an inmate in Arizona prison, Rosenbaum committed multiple violations: assaulting staff, throwing substances, assault by weapon, disobeying orders, etc.

On the day he provoked another underage potential victim into shooting and killing him, this monster Rosenbaum was released from a hospital, where he had checked in following a suicide attempt.

Rosenbaum had bipolar disorder. He was literally off his meds and raging at all and sundry on the day of his death-- including screaming at his comrades to "Shoot me now, n***a" as well as informing KR and a kindly older lady Good Samaritan type, "I'm gonna fucking cut your hearts out" and "If I get you alone I'm going to to kill you."

Sri Lanka Shuts Only Oil Refinery as Dollar Shortage Bites
[An Nahar] Sri Lanka shut its only oil refinery Monday after running out of dollars to import crude, in an escalating economic crisis that has triggered shortages of food and other staples. The country's foreign reserves had fallen to $2.3 billion at the end of October, down from $7.5 billion when the current government came to power almost two years ago.

International rating agencies have downgraded Sri Lanka's credit worthiness as the economy shrank an unprecedented 3.6 percent last year with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The island's tourism earnings and foreign worker remittances have dropped, sparking an import ban on a host of goods including vehicles, spare parts and spices since March last year.

Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila said it was the first time the Sapugaskanda refinery has been shut down since it was built by Iran
...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence...
in 1969.

Gammanpila said the country instead planned to import refined petrol and diesel and that the government would save an unspecified amount of money by doing so.

"When we refine crude at Sapugaskanda, we get 37 percent furnace oil and 19 percent aviation fuel and only 43 percent petrol and diesel," he told news hounds in Colombo.

"There is no big demand for furnace oil and aviation fuel so it is better to import refined petrol and diesel which are in high demand," Gammanpila said.

Top Sri Lankan officials have warned of fuel rationing by the end of the year unless consumption is cut drastically.

Sri Lanka's oil import bill was $2.32 billion last year when a barrel of crude had fallen to about $45, but 2021 imports were expected to be about $4.0 billion because of the sharp rise in oil prices in the international market, according to an official report five months ago.

Official sources said the government had been banking on huge loans from Oman and India to finance oil imports, but they had not materialized and negotiations appeared to be inconclusive.

The foreign exchange shortage has already led to rationing of milk powder, sugar, cooking gas and cement.

In a bid to earn desperately needed foreign cash, the central bank last week announced tighter controls on exporters forcing them to covert their foreign exchange earnings within 180 days at official exchange rates.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has pegged the dollar at 202.99 rupees, but commercial banks have run out of dollars. However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
on the black market, rates have soared to over 240 rupees to the dollar.

The bank expects the economy to expand 4-5 percent this year with the gradual re-opening of the economy and the roll-out of a vaccine program.

Russia shoots down satellite in ‘debris-generating event': US Space Command
[FoxNews] Russia has shot down a satellite in orbit over the weekend, the U.S. Space Command revealed Monday.

The agency, in a statement provided to Fox News, said it is "aware of a debris-generating event in outer space.

"We are actively working to characterize the debris field and will continue to ensure all space-faring nations have the information necessary to maneuver satellites if impacted," the statement continued. "We are also in the process of working with the interagency, including the State Department and NASA, concerning these reports and will provide an update in the near future."

#3  Just like when China did it, this is a warning. They're saying the US system of satellites is vulnerable, and they don't mind dirtying space with debris because the US depends far more on space than they do.

You know how the US is always "sending a message"? This is the other way around.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Saudi FM Urges Lebanese Leaders to End Hizbullah's 'Hegemony'
[An Nahar] Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud has urged the Lebanese political class to put an end to Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
’s "hegemony."

Bin Farhan affirmed that KSA is not willing to communicate with the Lebanese government "for the time being."

He added that the political class should take the necessary measures to "liberate Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...In 2020 Hezbollah blew up a considerable portion of Beirut and many of its inhabitants when its ammonium nitrate facility exploded. They blamed it on... somebody else. It wasn't them though. Trust them on that. And it ain't never coming to trial...
from Hizbullah and Iran."

For his part, former head of Saudi Intelligence Prince Turki al-Faisal, considered that "what’s happening in Lebanon is sad" and that the Lebanese, including the Shiites, are "paying the price."

"Not all Shiites there want Hizbullah's dominance," al-Faisal said.

He added that the solution is in the "hands of the people of Lebanon," praising the Lebanese October revolution "against the situation and Hizbullah."

Meanwhile,
...back at the hoedown, the fiddler suddenly struck a sour note. The dancing stopped abruptly. Everyone looked at Bob...
former Saudi ambassador to Lebanon Abdulaziz Khoja revealed that he had survived "3 liquidation attempts" while working in Lebanon. He did not accuse "any specific party."

He added that he had never imagined the ties to be cut between Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
and Lebanon.

"KSA has helped Lebanon as a neighboring Arab country," Khoja stressed, adding that Saudi Arabia has donated "more than $72 billion to Lebanon since 1990."

"The Lebanese have had enough of Hizbullah’s dominance over Lebanon," he said.

'Biden ordered Garland to prosecute me and this will be the misdemeanor from hell': Steve Bannon tears into Democrats and Nancy Pelosi as he is RELEASED without bail after appearing in court for defying his January 6 subpoena
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Former Trump strategist Steve Bannon lashed out at President Joe Biden and promised to go on offense after appearing before a judge on criminal contempt charges on Monday afternoon.

'I'm never gonna back down and they they took on the wrong guy this time,' he told a throng of waiting journalists.

Bannon, 67, is the first person to face criminal charges in the congressional probe into the role played by former President Trump and his aides in the runup to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol as they sought to overturn election results.

He faces two misdemeanour charges of contempt of Congress for refusing to respond to a House subpoena.

'This is going to be the misdemeanour from hell for Merrick Garland, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden,' he said after his first court appearance.

'Joe Biden ordered Merrick Garland to prosecute me from the White House lawn when he got off Marine One, and we're going to go on the offence.

'We're tired of playing defense.'

As might be expected from one of Trump's top propagandists, he used the media attention to deliver his verdict on the case against him - after earlier livestreaming the moment he gave himself up to the FBI.

Bannon, 67, is one of more than 30 people close to the former president who have been ordered by the House select committee to testify about what happened in the run-up to the deadly attack.

Caribbean-Latin America
Colombia Says Monitoring Hizbullah over 'Criminal' Acts
[An Nahar] Colombia has said it is monitoring the activities there of the pro-Iranian group Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
, accusing it of having conducted criminal activities."Two months ago we had to deal with a situation where we had to organize an operation to capture and expel two criminals commissioned by Hizbullah with the intention of committing a criminal act in Colombia," Defense Minister Diego Molano said in an interview with the daily El Tiempo.

He provided no details of the government operation.

But the newspaper, citing sources in Colombia's military intelligence services, said the Lebanese Shiite movement was spying on American and Israeli businessmen in Colombia.

Colombia has a sizable Lebanese community.

Hizbullah has been reported to have a presence in Venezuela
...a country in Central America that sits on an enormous pool of oil. Formerly the most prospereous country in the region, it became infested with Commies sniffing almost unlimited wealth. It turned out the wealth wasn't unlimited, the economy collapsed under the clownish Hugo Chavez, the murder rate exceeded places like Honduras and El Salvador. A significant proportion of the populace refugeed to Colombia and points south...
and other Latin American countries.

Molano said there was a "risk with Hizbullah in Venezuela and what its links to drug traffic or terrorist groups on the Venezuelan side (of the border) could generate for national security."

Colombia has accused neighboring Venezuela of sheltering and supporting guerrillas fighting against Bogota. Relations between the two are tense, and the common border has been largely closed since 2015.

On November 8, while accompanying President Ivan Duque on an official visit to Israel, Molano said the two countries had a "common enemy in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
and Hizbullah," which he said not only operated against Israel but supported the leftist regime in Venezuela.

But on Sunday, Molano said he had spoken "hastily."

His remarks in Israel were sharply criticized in Iran -- with which Colombia has had diplomatic relations since 1975 -- and by its ambassador to Bogota, Mohammad Ali Ziaei, who said "the destruction of this relationship does not profit the people."

Duque later said that "Colombia does not use the word 'enemy' to designate a country," while adding, "that does not mean that we don't have divergences on specific questions with Iran."

IDF, Israel Police capture two smuggling weapons into Jordan

In Jordan? They’ve got ISIS and Muslim Brotherhood problems there, as I recall. And no doubt the usual tribal warfare and criminal gangs, all of whom also like tools to harm others. Somebody would have been able to make use of it.
Two men who attempted to smuggle weapons from Israel into Jordan were captured by IDF and Israel Police forces late on Monday night. The men, reportedly Palestinians, were caught with 11 different weapons in their possession, including eight pistols, two AK-47 and an M16 rifle.

The two were caught and detained by IDF combat soldiers and, along with the firearm, were taken to Israel Police for further interrogation.

He suggested that the United Nations, "will look into the matter, and in case the results remain as they are, we will present this evidence to higher authorities of the United Nations mission in Iraq and perhaps to the UN Security Council."

-Short Attention Span Theater-
A menace in the Courtroom
[Powerlineblog] The jury is out in the Kyle Rittenhouse case, but the verdict is in on one point: Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger, the lead prosecutor, is a dope. Some would say that was already apparent from his performance in the case, but today, during his closing argument, he pointed an AR-15 into the crowded courtroom gallery with his finger on the trigger. Unbelievable:

Liberals on Twitter are saying it was OK for Binger to violate every known rule of firearm safety because he was told the gun was unloaded. Have they not heard about Alec Baldwin? The most basic rules of firearm safety are 1) you treat every gun as a loaded gun, 2) you never, ever point a gun at anyone you don’t intend to shoot, and 3) you don’t put your finger inside the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot. Binger broke all of them.

Actually, the instinct against pointing a gun at another human being is so strong in a normal person that it would take a real effort of will to do it. But Binger apparently is oblivious to the most basic principles of safety. The world is a safer place with a gun in Kyle Rittenhouse’s hands than in Thomas Binger’s.

#3  This idiot prosecutor is trying to put Gun Violence in trial. The defendant was carrying a gun -- ergo he "provoked" a bipolar, off-his-meds, serial child rapist who had directly threatened to "get you alone and fucking kill you," as well as "cut your fucking heart out."

But guns are evil. Guns provoke. KR is Mr. Gun Violence and must be locked up for life.

So that we may make America safe for bipolar violent child rapists and violent maniacs who try to strangle and kill their families and burn the house down. And safe for violent foot soldiers of the "People's Revolution."

Because white 17 year-old lifeguards bearing guns and fire extinguishers are the source of all the arson and violence and terror afflicting our cities. Because gunz. And rayciss. Your Honor, the Prosecution rests.

#10  #7 The Supreme Court in Berger vs US (1935):

"The United States Attorney is the representative not of an ordinary party to a controversy, but of a sovereignty whose obligation to govern impartially is as compelling as its obligation to govern at all; and whose interest, therefore, in a criminal prosecution is not that it shall win a case, but that justice shall be done. As such, he is in a peculiar and very definite sense the servant of the law, the twofold aim of which is that guilt shall not escape or innocence suffer. He may prosecute with earnestness and vigor-- indeed, he should do so. But, while he may strike hard blows, he is not at liberty to strike foul ones. It is as much his duty to refrain from improper methods calculated to produce a wrongful conviction as it is to use every legitimate means to bring about a just one."

#12  The prosecutor has been trying to tank this to a mistrial since his lead witness reversed his testimony. The defense made a motion for mistrial at that point, but the judge didn't want to because 'it would give undue advantage to the state on retrial' (IIRC).

#14  What is a "federal" attorney? One employed by the federal gummint? One admitted to practice in federal courts?

This is from the AVVO Legal Advice forum:

Attorneys are licensed to practice law by one or more states. Attorneys cannot appear in any court, state or federal, without being admitted to that court. Admission is not automatic -- an attorney must apply for admission and pay an application processing fee and/or admission fee. The application process can include submitting a questionnaire under penalty of perjury, providing multiple references, submitting to background checks including fingerprinting, sending law school transcripts, and more. Attorneys must be sworn in to practice before that court.

Usually, state courts will admit attorneys who pass the bar exam of the same state and meet all the other requirements. Some courts will admit an attorney licensed in certain other states without requiring them to pass another bar exam. California does not admit any attorney who has not passed the California Bar Exam.

Courts also admit out-of-state attorneys for one specific case. This is called a pro hac vice admission. It usually requires an attorney within the state to sponsor the out-of-state attorney plus payment of a fee.

Note some states, including California, allow attorneys to practice law in-house for one particular employer, often a large corporation, without having to pass another bar exam.

Attorneys can appear before federal agencies anywhere on the same basis anyone else can. However, attorneys are still held to the requirements of an attorney with respect to their clients.

California 'sanctuary city' declares itself a Constitutional Republic to fight COVID mandates
[FoxNews] A city council in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, overwhelmingly voted to declare the city a "Constitutional Republic City" to protect its citizens’ rights in light of federal and state mandates.

"What we are doing is protecting our citizens' rights as much as we can on the local level," Oroville Vice Mayor Scott Thomson told Fox News Digital.

"In a way, we are acting as a sanctuary city for our citizens and their rights and freedoms protected by the U.S. and state constitutions," he added. "Gavin can't be Bee'd Newsom
...the Mitt Romneyesque mayor of San Francisco as it transformed itself into Poopville, currently governor of California as it transforms itself into Cinderland...
modeled this type of declaration for us when he declared the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
a sanctuary city for what he believed to be overreach by the federal government against his citizens."

Thomson requested the measure, which was passed 6-1 by the city council on Nov. 2. The resolution is intended to allow the city to opt out of enforcing "any executive orders issued by the state of California or by the United States federal government that are overreaching or clearly violate our constitutionally protected rights."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran Has Deported Over 1M Afghans This Year: IOM
[ToloNews] The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that 1,031,757 Afghan refugees have been deported by Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
this year.

According to the organization, 28,000 Afghan refugees were returned in only the last week of October.

IOM said in a statement that the increasing number of deportations was leading Afghanistan toward more challenges.

"The majority were deported, returning to Afghanistan often broke and broken, in need of health support, food and rest," said IOM director general Antonio Vitorino. "The task of reuniting with family and reintegrating into communities — especially for those who have been in Iran or Pakistain for years — is tremendously difficult considering the high levels of unemployment and food insecurity," Vitorino added.

Iran’s special envoy to Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, said that Tehran was a "good host for Afghan refugees," but it doesn’t have the capacity to host more refugees.

"Due to the rapid political changes, a massive wave of Afghan refugees came to our borders. We should make a program to prevent these migrations. We should seek a resolution," said Qomi.

The Islamic Emirate earlier called on the international community to help with Afghanistan’s economy in order to prevent another wave of illegal migrants colonists to foreign countries.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) in a report expressed concerns over the problems of Afghan refugees on the borders of neighboring and European countries.

"The Iranian government took some steps towards our citizens which are clearly in contrast with the UN international convention," said Lala Gul Lal, head of the HRW on Monday. "We strongly condemn the remarks of the Iran government and call on the UN to prevent Iran’s actions against migrants colonists."

This comes as the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provided cash for at least 5,000 war- and drought-displaced families in the west of Afghanistan.

The UN organization provided each of the families with 265 dollars in cash.

The officials within the provincial refugee department said that the aid would help the displaced families to return to their permanent residences.

Britain
Day 2: Liverpool attack suspect named as Emad al-Swealmeen, reported to be Christian convert
Day 1 reports can be seen here and here.

[Guardian] 32-year-old is said to have changed name to Enzo Almeni before failed asylum application in 2014

A suspected terrorist who went kaboom! outside Liverpool Women’s hospital at the weekend has been named as 32-year-old Emad al-Swealmeen.

Counter Terrorism Policing North West said they "strongly believe" al-Swealmeen was the passenger who died when a taxi went kaboom! shortly before 11am on Sunday. According to reports, al-Swealmeen is believed not to be British-born and to have had Syrian and Iraqi heritage.

He is said to have converted to Christianity after moving to the UK from the Middle East and was later briefly taken in by Christian volunteers Malcolm and Elizabeth Hitchcott in Liverpool.

Al-Swealmeen had changed his name by deed poll to Enzo Almeni, in honour of Italian race car legend Enzo Ferrari, to sound more western on his asylum application, which subsequently failed in 2014, Hitchcott told the Daily Mail.

Hitchcott told the newspaper: "He first came to the cathedral in August 2015 and wanted to convert to Christianity. He took an Alpha course, which explains the Christian faith, and completed it in November of that year. That enabled him to come to an informed decision and he changed from Islam to Christianity and was confirmed as a Christian by at least March 2017, just before he came to live with us. He was destitute at that time and we took him in."

Pictures posted on Hitchcott’s Facebook profile showed the suspect smiling and posing alongside the couple during a walk a few years prior, including a picture showing al-Swealmeen during a service at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral.

Speaking to the BBC, Elizabeth Hitchcott said: "We’re just so, so sad. We just loved him, he was a lovely guy," adding she and her husband were "very" shocked by the incident.

Searches are under way at the Rutland Avenue address and a second address in Sutcliffe Street, which officers have said al-Swealmeen previously lived at, and police said they had recovered "significant items".

"We continue to appeal for any information about this incident and now that we have released his name any information that the public may have about al-Swealmeen, no matter how small, may be of great assistance to us."

Liverpool explosion: What we know so far
[BBC]
  • A man who was killed in an explosion outside Liverpool Women's Hospital on Sunday when his homemade bomb went off has been named by police as 32-year-old Emad Al Swealmeen.

  • Al Swealmeen was the passenger of the taxi destroyed in the blast. The driver was injured and needed hospital treatment.

  • Four men were arrested under the Terrorism Act, but have since been released from police custody without charge.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Merseyside Police were called at 10:59 GMT to reports of a car explosion at Liverpool Women's Hospital.

A taxi carrying one passenger - named by counter-terrorism police as Emad Al Swealmeen - pulled up to the hospital and exploded shortly afterwards.

Al Swealmeen, who had been picked up from the Rutland Avenue area and asked to be taken to the hospital about 10 minutes away, died at the scene.

Russ Jackson, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North West, said the passenger appeared to have made an improvised device that caused the explosion.

Nick Aldworth, a former counter terror coordinator, said investigators would be focused on what happened inside the vehicle.

"They'll be looking at what sort of damage has been caused, trying to get an assessment of what might have caused that blast," he told Today.

"I have to say from what I've seen there is very little blast damage - a lot of fire damage but very little blast damage. So whatever was in that vehicle was either a low yield or didn't work properly or was possibly an incendiary."

WHAT'S HAPPENING ON THE GROUND?
About two hours after the blast, properties on Rutland Avenue near Sefton Park, in the south-east of the city, and in the Kensington area, east of the city centre, were raided by armed officers.

Three arrests took place in Sutcliffe Street, in Kensington, where witnesses reported seeing armed officers approach a terraced house.

Jim Clarke, BBC North West Tonight deputy editor, said the first raid happened at about 13:00 on Rutland Avenue - roughly 0.75 miles from the hospital.

The second around Sutcliffe Street and the adjacent Boaler Street - about a mile from the hospital - took place an hour later, at about 14:00.

There was a heavy police presence, including police negotiators, outside the house on Rutland Avenue overnight.

Several residents were evacuated and a large cordon guarded by officers was put in place.

Police confirmed that a controlled explosion had been carried out as a precaution in the Sefton Park area at about 16:00 GMT as part of the investigation but there was no wider risk to the public.

In a statement on Monday evening, police said the address at Rutland Avenue was becoming central to the investigation.

Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson, from Counter-Terrorism Policing North West, said officers had made "significant progress" and had a "much greater understanding of the component parts of the device, how they were obtained and how the parts are likely to have been assembled".

He said following interviews with the arrested men, police were "satisfied with the accounts they have provided" and they were released from custody.

WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE PASSENGER?
On Monday evening, Det Ch Insp Andrew Meeks said police "strongly believe" the passenger who was killed was 32-year-old Emad Al Swealmeen.

He said Al Swealmeen was believed to have lived in Sutcliffe Street for some time but had recently rented a property in Rutland Avenue. Searches were being carried out at both addresses.

Suicide bomber who died when his device blew up outside Liverpool hospital was pizza chef, 32, who fled Middle East and converted to Christianity at cathedral 'he wanted to attack' and was once arrested for carrying a knife
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Suicide bomber who died when his device blew up outside hospital was an asylum seeker

  • Enzo Almeni was born Emad Jamil Al-Swealmeen and raised in Iraq before moving to UK several years ago

  • Almeni was taken in by devout Christians Malcolm and Elizabeth Hitchcott in 2017 and converted from Islam to Christianity in Liverpool Cathedral, the venue it is thought he wanted to blow up on Remembrance Sunday

  • Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Mr Hitchcott said that Almeni had mental health issues and was arrested and sectioned in 2014 for carrying a knife around central Liverpool

  • Almeni blew up a taxi outside Liverpool Women's Hospital yesterday, just before 11am Remembrance silence

  • Taxi driver David Perry was hailed hero by friends who said he locked the 'suspicious' man in his car

  • Three men - aged 21, 26 and 29 - were arrested under Terrorism Act in raids in Liverpool yesterday afternoon

  • A fourth man, 20, arrested on suspicion of the same terror offence today, close to property raided last night

  • Mr Perry suffered relatively minor injuries and has already been released from hospital, friends said
Almeni spent most of his time in the UK in Liverpool, where he was being supported by Christian volunteers from a network of churches who help asylum seekers. He spent eight months living with devout Christians Malcolm and Elizabeth Hitchcott at their home in the Aigburth district of Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline today, Mr Hitchcott, a former British Army soldier, said he met Almeni in 2015 through his work at Liverpool Cathedral when he started expressing an interest in converting to Christianity.

Police said Almeni was picked up in the Rutland Avenue area of the city. As the car reached the hospital's passenger drop-off point, it went kaboom!.

Police said he had been living at a hostel for asylum seekers - run by private contracting giant Serco - in Sutcliffe Street, Liverpool, 'for some time' before renting a 'bomb factory' two miles away in Rutland Avenue.

Meanwhile,
...back at the comedy club, Boogie was cracking himself up, but nobody else seemed to be getting the non-stop jokes...
forensic officers continued the delicate task of searching the 'bomb factory' from where Almeni booked the taxi. Eight nearby homes have been evacuated, and officers on Monday carried out a controlled explosion on an item taken from the property in nearby Sefton Park in what they described as 'a precaution'.

'Al Swealmeen is connected to both the Rutland Avenue and Sutcliffe Street addresses where searches are still ongoing. We believe he lived at the Sutcliffe Street address for some time and had recently rented the Rutland Avenue address. Our focus is the Rutland Avenue address where we have continued to recover significant items.

'We continue to appeal for any information about this incident and now that we have released his name any information that the public may have about Al Swealmeen no matter how small may be of great assistance to us.'

One theory police are probing is that the detonators on a potential bomb went kaboom! but not the main charge. Experts tell MailOnline that the bomb was probably not a high explosive such as TNT but of a hydrocarbon substance, most likely petrol.

#1  The term they omit is “taqiyya”, gaining the trust of non-believers in order to draw out their vulnerability and defeat them. And also makarra (deceit). Islam specifically allows and piloted lies and deceptions and violence against non-Islam.

#3  Perhaps if he’d been granted asylum as a result of the conversion, he would have stuck with Jesus. But he wasn’t, so clearly Jesus didn’t hold up his end of the bargain — and now Allah needs to be placated with bloody jihad.

Or taqqiya/makarra. Very probably his ancestors became Muslim as the result of a similar calculation.

US journalist jailed in Myanmar for six months is freed
[IsraelTimes] American journalist Danny Fenster, who was recently sentenced to 11 years of hard labor after spending nearly six months in jail in military-ruled Myanmar, has been sprung and is on his way home, says a former US diplomat who helped negotiate his release.

Fenster, the managing editor of the online magazine Frontier Myanmar, was convicted on Friday of spreading false or inflammatory information, contacting illegal organizations and violating visa regulations. His sentence was the harshest yet among the seven journalists known to have been convicted since the military ousted the elected government of Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi in February.

"This is the day that you hope will come when you do this work," Bill Richardson, a former governor of New Mexico and past ambassador to the UN, says in a statement emailed by his office. "We are so grateful that Danny will finally be able to reconnect with his loved ones, who have been advocating for him all this time, against immense odds."

Fenster was handed over to Richardson in Myanmar and will return to the US via Qatar

IRGC Syria commander removed 'upon request from Assad'
More on this story from a few days ago.
[al-Monitor] Until a few weeks ago, he was among the strongest men in Syria — if not the strongest — but Javad Ghaffari’s last battle in the war-torn country was this time with no one other than the ruling elite he came to the country to defend.

"He became a liability," an official Syrian source told al-Monitor on condition of anonymity. "The time has changed, and he still wants to act as per the rules of war, when the war is almost over."

The Iranian general, whose real name is Ahmad Madani,

#1  seems to me that 'the war is over' is an overstatement

It is true that fatalities are less than last year and much less than the year before. But still there will be about 3000 killed this year, about half civilians.

Local residents have said that the operations started Monday midnight and continued until early morning the following day and claimed that three civilians have also been killed during the operations.

Taliban’s provincial officials in Kandahar said that they killed three ISIS-K affiliates and arrested ten more but did not say anything about civilians.

In the meantime, it is rumored that an ISIS-K affiliate has blown his explosives in a room that killed the affiliate.

The provincial officials and interior ministry have not said anything about the casualties of the Taliban fighters.

The ISIS-K has recently escalated their attacks in Afghanistan and has lately grabbed credit for a deadly attack on Saturday in Kabul that left three killed and six maimed.
Tolo News’ version of events:
Security forces of the Islamic Emirate launched a large-scale operation in Kandahar city early on Monday against Daesh hideouts.

Islamic Emirate local officials said four Daesh members were killed and eight others were arrested during the operation.

According to Samim, four hideouts of Daesh were destroyed during the operation.

Meanwhile, local residents said two civilians were also killed during the operation.

Sanaullah, a relative of the victims, said his father and younger brother were killed. “One of them was my father and the other one my younger brother. Daesh members were living in a house and there was an explosion, and they were killed in that explosion,” he said.

Saeed Khosti, spokesman of the Ministry of Interior said in a tweet that three Daesh members and two civilians were killed.

“A hideout of Daesh was destroyed and three Daesh fighters were killed. In this operation, two civilians were martyred, and the Islamic Emirate forces were not harmed,” he tweeted.

Iraq
The reverse migration of Assyrian youth to Northern Iraq
[SHAFAQ] Many young Assyrians from diaspora are making decision to leave the freedom and comfortable life in the west and are heading to northern Iraq, to help needy Assyrians in the ancestral land

Susan Younan is a young Assyrian whose parents in the early 1980s, fled the discrimination and ill treatment in Iraq and lived in Athens, Greece, in hope of settling in the west.

Suzan was born in Greece. Her family consisting of her father, mother and two sisters were granted permanent visa to Canada. The family lived in Canada for almost eight years. They wanted to be closer to relatives and friends, so they moved to the USA to live there for good.

Suzan grew up in a patriotic family. That's where she inherited the interest and love to her nation from.

On her first visit to the homeland to celebrate Akito festival, Suzan fell in in love with her ancestral land and the Assyrians in northern Iraq. To her, the Kha B’Nisan festival (Assyrian new year) was an eye opener and most wonderful experience in her life. A bond was born with the land. Since then, Suzan was visiting the homeland in every year.

The idea of having young Assyrians born in the diaspora, to visit the homeland, made Suzan with the help of other Assyrian youth, to establish the GISHRU organization.

In this interview, Susan talks about her experience since she decided to work and live in Duhok in northern Iraq and her involvement with different international NGO, to help the needy Assyrians and non-Assyrians in aid and resettlement.
