Hilda Trevalyan was born on February 4, 1877 in Clapton, London, England as Hilda Marie Antoinette Tucker.
Early in her career she became known for her performance in plays by J. M. Barrie and is probably best remembered for creating the role of Wendy in Peter Pan.
Another early success was as Oliver Twist in a dramatization of Charles Dickens's novel staged by Herbert Beerbohm Tree
She was an actress, known for What Every Woman Knows (1917), Transatlantic Tunnel (1935) and Sally in Our Alley (1916).
She was married to Sydney Blow. She died on November 10, 1959 in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, England.
[Breitbart] Cartel Smugglers continued their work on Christmas Eve moving more than 200 migrants across the Rio Grande in the Border Patrol’s busiest sector. As many celebrated the holidays on both sides of the border, the smugglers and Border Patrol agents engaged in what has become routine business on the southwest border.
Breitbart Texas traveled to several border towns in the Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley Sector and witnessed the interactions that did not take a break for Christmas. As residents attended mass on Friday evening, smugglers in Roma, Texas, ferried migrants across the Rio Grande in large groups consisting of family units, unaccompanied migrant children, and single adults.
Across the river in Miguel Aleman, Mexico, residents celebrated the holiday by lighting fireworks as church bells rang out. On a loudspeaker outside a Catholic church in the heart of downtown Roma, broadcast its celebratory mass into the streets and hymns could be heard for blocks. The city square, usually used as a rally point for migrants who surrender by the hundreds nightly was void of the usual activity.
On this night, smugglers chose to move the migrants to the north end of town near a residential neighborhood. Using inflatable rafts, the smugglers moved the migrants across the Rio Grande as fireworks lit the night sky on both sides of the border. The migrants, mostly Central American, walked through the brush and into a neighborhood in Roma to await transport.
Border Patrol agents sorted the apprehended groups by single adults, family units, and unaccompanied migrant children. As several Border Patrol agents retrieved basic biographical information from the migrants, others conducted pat-down searches for weapons and contraband. Other agents inventoried and bagged migrant property in what appeared to be a smooth, well-developed process.
Nearly 40 miles away, Border Patrol agents in La Joya carried out the same process. Breitbart Texas witnessed one large group march along a border road escorted by a Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol trooper. The mostly Central American migrants, nearly 30 in total, walked from the river bottom to a city baseball park where Border Patrol agents waited.
With the same precision, a Border Patrol agent prepared the group for transport after determining the demographic composition of the migrants. Agents inventoried and tagged the property while waiting for migrant transport buses.
Along Texas Highway 83 that moves through multiple border cities in the Rio Grande Valley, Border Patrol agents moved into ranches and communities in search of migrants who are not voluntarily surrendering. Breitbart Texas observed the agents cordoning off neighborhoods and small ranches attempting to track migrants attempting to elude apprehension.
The migrants apprehended on this Christmas Eve will be taken to a soft-sided processing center nearby. Once processed, many of the family unit migrants with tender age children will ultimately be released. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector arrested more than 549,000 migrants in Fiscal Year 2021. More than 257,000 of those were classified as family unit members according to the Border Patrol.

Even Democrats can't stand her. It's like Joe Biden going to Jimmy Carter on how to get a rip-roaring economy going. (And that seems to have happened, too).
So here we are, with the mendicant and her mentor -- with cackling that can be heard a mile away:

Dance of The Scorpions.
But one of the arachnids is already and cluelessly toast.
[Breitbart] Democrats and their business allies are trying to revive the huge immigration giveaways in President Joe Biden’s semi-defunct Build Back Better (BBB) spending plan.
The bill has been blocked by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who has repeatedly stated he opposes the $1.7 trillion spending plan because it will likely increase inflation.
But "Democratic lawmakers, lobbyists and experts at think tanks believe Manchin might be won over if the bill is revised to include fewer programs for a longer period of time," the Hill.com reported December 23. The outlet continued:
Progressives want the revived bill to include all the immigration giveaways in the $1.7 trillion draft bill. Manchin has not announced any opposition to the immigration giveaways in the bill.
Those giveaways include an amnesty for 6.5 million, as well as new rules to help the Fortune 500 companies hire an uncapped number of foreign graduates, instead of American graduates, and a dramatic acceleration of chain migration into the United States, regardless of the damaging impact on Americans’ wages, families finances, and housing prices. The changes would have a big impact on Americans’ pocketbooks but would cost the federal government a small share of the spending plan.
But Democrats face a critical problem. The Senate’s parliamentarian has repeatedly excluded their amnesty plans for the 6.5 million illegals from the fast-track spending bill — and some Democrats do not want to pass the Fortune 500 giveaway without also passing the amnesty plan for migrants.
Media outlets that are allowed onto Capitol Hill have not asked the Democrats about their plan to escape this both-or-nothing dilemma.
Similarly, the approved media outlets have stayed silent about the Democrats’ plan to accelerate chain migration — even though it would deliver millions of new voters to Democrats while also providing millions of extra workers, consumers, and renters to the Democrats’ business allies.
Manchin reportedly approved a smaller spending bill before negotiations collapsed. But media coverage of the revived BBB plan is silent about his negotiations with the White House over the migration giveaways. For example, the Washington Post published a December 20 article about Manchin’s BBB priorities — but ignored the migration issue:

Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland, 62, is being pressured to resign after threatening a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints youth group with a gun
The group of girls, aged 12 to 16, had dropped an anonymous Thanksgiving thank-you note off at his front door prior to the threat
After the group left the note, Rowland stopped their car from driving away, pulled the adult chaperone out of the vehicle - who he had known for 30 years
He grabbed the unidentified supervisor by her hair and pointed his handgun at her head, yelling profanities at her, such as 'get the f**k out of the car'
The sheriff reportedly told the woman and young girls to never come back to his property again, before letting them off the hook
Rowland agreed to take a leave of absence shortly after the allegations arose in November, but returned to the job several weeks ago
The incident attracted nationwide attention after Rowland told investigators he was worried that the group might have been 'drunk Indians'
The local Shoshone-Bannock tribes' community leaders and elected officials slammed the sheriff for his 'racist slurs'

I really have a problem with people coming to my door after dark. When I lived in the countryside, I told more than one person it was a bad idea and they should stop. I live in basically a suburb now, so the usual excuses (I ran out of gas, I need to use your phone) are even less believable.
That said, I'm glad I never accidentally knocked on this guy's door.

Sounds to me like the sheriff was deep into the Wild Turkey and was less than circumspect about his condition.
Since late August, Rising S Company has completed risk assessments for multiple high-end clients in L.A. andinstalled 13 safe rooms, nine safe doors, two underground bunker shelters, and two window fortifications in Brentwood Park, Beverly Park and Paradise Cove, says general manager Gary Lynch. This compares to their installation of seven safe rooms in California in the 2.5 years prior.

Back to the diaries now.
Ok, Magoo, you f--king perv, question time: When did you start showering with your pubescent daughter? Is her history of substance abuse and severe depression related to even worse treatment by you?
[NYPost] Give Russian President Vladimir Putin an Oscar for his histrionics over Ukraine.
Vlad seemed to loose his cool at his annual year-end press conference Thursday when a Sky News reporter asked if Moscow could promise not to invade its neighbor.
"You are demanding guarantees from us? It’s you who should give us guarantees. Immediately. Right now. And not talk it over for decades," Putin railed.
Nice faux outrage. He, after all, is the architect of this crisis: Ukraine can’t even take back the large areas Vlad’s already stolen from him, and the West has zero interest doing more than fending off his aggression.
That’s rich, particularly as Ukraine just released satellite images it said showed more Russian forces building up at its border; Putin already has roughly 175,000 troops assembled there on Russia’s western border.
But, as Walter Russell Mead noted for The Wall Street Journal, this flap has served Putin well: "At minimal cost, the Russian president’s Ukraine moves have increased his political standing and promoted his agenda at home," because most Russians think the independent nation should still be part of the Kremlin’s empire.
So it’s pretty rich that Putin’s making security-guarantee demands, telling NATO to swear off ever admitting Ukraine. He also insisted Washington’s to blame for enflaming tensions in Eastern Europe and bringing the region closer to war. Right.
But, as Vlad tells it, Russia’s under threat. Ignoring questions about what he’s doing on his own borders, he erupted: "How would the Americans respond if we put our missiles on the US borders with Canada or Mexico? What is unclear here? Are we putting missiles next to the United States’ borders? No, it is the United States that has come to us with their missiles, they are already on our doorstep."
Never mind that they’re defensive "missiles," emplaced to intercept nukes from, say, Iran (or, yes, Russia).
He pretends Washington is trying to create an alliance with Ukraine that would threaten Russia, when America just finished bugging out of Afghanistan and has zero desire for any war. Indeed, the West won’t even do more than talk about how Putin’s puppet state in eastern Ukraine is an abomination.
But the Russian autocrat claims he’s just defending that "republic," thundering, "We are warned in advance, ’Don’t get involved, don’t meddle, don’t defend these people.’ If you defend, these sanctions will follow." No, President Joe Biden’s warning is about "severe consequences" if Putin sends his troops into the part of Ukraine that’s still free.
And those threats (at least), are absolutely necessary: Putin will grab whatever he thinks he can get away with, as he did with eastern Ukraine and much of Georgia before that.
He plays "protector of the Russian people" because it helps him stay in power, so he and his cronies can continue to loot the country. In truth, his leadership has the Russian population in such steep decline that the nation he pretends to guard will barely exist by the end of the century.

Russian love to fuck with their friends and foes alike.
[Aljazeera] On Thursday, apartheid’s last leader, Frederik Willem de Klerk, died, sparking a national conversation among South Africans about his life and legacy.
Praise and support for De Klerk — who was South Africa’s president during its transition from white minority rule to democracy — has been muted in the country, not simply because of his association with apartheid, but because of his many shortcomings as a statesman.
In the words of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, "Mr De Klerk could have gone down in history as a truly great South African statesman, but he eroded his stature and became a small man, lacking magnanimity and generosity of spirit."
During his presidency (1989-1994) and his time as deputy-president to Nelson Mandela (1994-1996), De Klerk had an opportunity to shape the views of his white compatriots, elevate the voices of Black South Africans, and play a leading role in building a democratic South Africa. Instead, he repeatedly chose to equivocate and lie during his time in political power. Instead of reckoning with the past, De Klerk and the white politicians he led, tried to dodge it. As a result, De Klerk became a historical footnote.
Although he released Mandela and other political prisoners and unbanned the liberation movements and their affiliates in 1990, De Klerk was a reluctant reformer. After he lost the election to Mandela in 1994, he became a deputy-president in his government of national unity. Although he held a senior position in the government led by Mandela, De Klerk was unable to admit to his role in apartheid-era violence against Black South Africans.
Instead of coming clean, he lied to the country’s Truth
[NYP] On social media, the pleas for help are studded with emojis of praying hands and crying faces — all from the desperate relatives of 13 migrants who disappeared in late September, as they were poised to illegally cross from Mexico into West Texas.
"I am the wife of one of them and I ask you for help," reads one recent Facebook post in English, although most of the pleas are in Spanish. "Today it is 88 days that I know nothing from any of the group."
"They were likely the victims of transnational criminal groups and got caught up in a cartel turf war over smuggling routes," said a US federal source who works on border issues and did not want to be identified.
In addition to the cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl that they smuggle across the border, both the Sinaloa and Juarez cartels — who dominate parts of northern Mexico — have branched out into smuggling desperate migrants, according to authorities on both sides of the border.
More than 95,000 people in Mexico are missing, many of them victims of cartel violence, according to the country’s National Search Commission.

[Breitbart] California lost one percent of its population over the last year as residents fled for other states, the United States Census Bureau revealed this week.
While California’s population stands at more than 39.5 million, a record high, the state lost more than 367,000 residents over the last year. The state’s population decline is among the largest in the nation.
"In 2021, 20 states and the District of Columbia lost residents via net domestic migration. Largest domestic migration losses were in California (-367,299), New York (-352,185), and Illinois (-122,460)," Census Bureau experts wrote.

[MAIL] Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and veteran of South Africa's struggle against white minority rule, has died at the age of 90.
Tutu was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the late 1990s and in recent years was hospitalised on several occasions to treat infections associated with his cancer treatment.
In a statement on behalf of the Tutu family, the Office of the Archbishop of South Africa said he, 'died peacefully at the Oasis Frail Care Centre in Cape Town this morning.' They did not give details on the cause of death.
In 1984 Tutu won the Nobel Peace Prize for his non-violent opposition to apartheid. A decade later, he witnessed the ends of that regime and chaired a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, set up to unearth atrocities committed during those dark days.
He preached against the tyranny of white minority and even after its end, never wavered in his fight for a fairer South Africa, calling the black political elite to account with as much vigour as he had the white Afrikaners.
In his final years, he regretted that his dream of a 'Rainbow Nation' had not yet come true.
Announcing the news, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said it was 'another chapter of bereavement in our nation's farewell to a generation of outstanding South Africans who have bequeathed us a liberated South Africa'.
An uncompromising foe of apartheid in South Africa, Tutu worked tirelessly and peacefully for its downfall.
Mr Ramaphosa added: 'From the pavements of resistance in South Africa to the pulpits of the world's great cathedrals and places of worship, and the prestigious setting of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, the arch distinguished himself as a non-sectarian, inclusive champion of universal human rights.'

[Breitbart] On Friday’s "Fox News Live," Fox News Medical Contributor and Clinical Professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine Dr. Marc Siegel stated that "there’s been such a narrow, laser focus on" vaccines and booster shots, and "The Biden administration needed to extend Operation Warp Speed to therapeutics, absolutely."
Siegel said, [relevant remarks begin around 2:30] "I’m a huge proponent of the vaccine, and I’m a huge proponent of the booster shot. But even the booster shot is not that available right now, Anita, you can’t even get that in the pharmacy. So, you’re absolutely right, there’s been such a narrow, laser focus on that, not enough on therapeutics. And to be totally fair, when I interviewed former President Trump last year in July in the White House, he said, very excited about therapeutics, that was part of Operation Warp Speed. They needed to extend that to this. The Biden administration needed to extend Operation Warp Speed to therapeutics, absolutely."

Feds Pause Shipments Of Two Monoclonal Antibody Treatments Not Effective Against Omicron Variant Of COVID-19. This article comes up with a new abbreviation - "Bamete" - I've never encountered in my own regular online reviews of the monoclonal antibodies. AFAICT "Bamete" refers to the combined monoclonal antibodies Bamlanivimab/etesevimab which are one of the few antibody sets given EUA by the FDA 11/2020, and which have been given nationwide for high risk outpatients with COVID-19.
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) said this week it’s been notified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that it’s pausing all shipments of two monoclonal antibody treatments: Regeneron and Bamete.
That’s because the state said recent studies show the two treatments have “significantly decreased efficacy” against the Omicron variant.
I can't find the stats, but Regeneron & "Bamete" have accounted for the vast majority of all anti-COVID-19 outpatient treatments given so far in the USA. The FDA nonsensically has withdrawn its two most common therapeutics because they have a decreased effect against Omicron -- not "no" effect, just a decreased effect.
Last week the FDA gave EUA for 2 new oral therapeutic agents, molnupiravir and Paxlovid® (nirmatrelvir tablets co-packaged with ritonavir tablets for oral use). Neither of these are yet available at pharmacies in my area, and zero announcements yet of when this may or will happen. The MSM can't even get the names straight yet, and they probably never will.
Dr. Siegel's statement is beyond irrelevant at this point.

[IsraelTimes] IDF says button men open fire at military post near Nablus; medics say seven Paleostinians shot with live fire, 35 others with rubber bullets
Hundreds of Paleostinians clashed with Israeli troops on Saturday night, near an illegal settlement outpost in the northern West Bank, amid rising violence in the area following a deadly terror shooting.
According to the Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy, at least seven Paleostinian demonstrators were hurt by Israel Defense Force soldiers’ live fire in the village of Burqa, adjacent to the illegal Homesh outpost.
Continued on Page 49
[IsraelTimes] The United Nations ...boodling on the grand scale... General Assembly on Thursday approved an open-ended international investigation into Israel’s treatment of Paleostinians, which was first set up following Israel’s conflict with the Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, terror group earlier this year.
In May, the UN’s Human Rights Council voted to create the investigation after the UN rights chief said Israeli forces may have committed war crimes and faulted the Hamas terror group for violations of international law in their 11-day conflict earlier that month.
The resolution called for the creation of a permanent "Commission of Inquiry" — the most potent tool at the council’s disposal — to monitor and report on rights violations in Israel, the Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... Strip and the West Bank. It would be the first such commission of inquiry with an "ongoing" mandate.
It gives the delegates something easy to do between tea parties, cocktail parties, and sumptuous dinners, while having no impact on the outside world whatsoever.
The Human Rights Council approved the measure at the time with 24 countries voting in favor, nine against and 14 abstentions.
On Thursday, the commission came up before the UN General Assembly for budgetary approval. It passed with 125 countries supporting it, eight opposing and 34 abstentions. Israel, the US, Hungary and the Pacific nations of the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and Papua New Guinea opposed the move. Australia, Austria, Canada, Brazil and Germany were among the abstentions.
Just out of curiosity, how did the Abraham Accord countries vote? How about peace treaty partners Egypt and Jordan?
Israel’s representative at the meeting said the commission was "yet another example of a grossly discriminatory and fraudulent body that this distinguished forum should be working to abolish."

As tensions mount and the talks fail, which they surely will, we should be concerned about becoming embroiled in war with Iran due to a false flag attack conducted against the Iranians by one of our pseudo proxies in the region. Saudi, Israel, or even by hardliners within the Iranian government. That said...
While Iran may dislike Israel, they loathe Saudi Arabia and the exportation of Wahibi influence from the Saudi kingdom. The Saudi and Iranian proxy war continues in Yemen...maybe we should encourage it to go hot...for distraction and let them grind each other a bit.
Sistani put out an edict that it was permissible to fight a defensive war...not an offensive one. If the other side, Saudi Arabia, is perceived to throw the first stone, the fight is on.

At this point I think the House of Saud would defend itself as such, claims that they were doing it in the name of allan second place consideration, if that.

From the Saudi perspective, Iran has been throwing first stones against them since the engineered Hajj riots in 1986. See here.

[Garowe] Clashes between two rival factions of the security forces in a port city in northeast Somalia have forced hundreds of families to flee their homes, a local official said Saturday.
The fighting has for several days rocked Bosaso, the commercial capital of Puntland ...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion... in the country's northeast.
"Thousands of the residents in the Bosaso town fled ... as sporadic fighting was going on in some parts of the town," local official Abdirizak Mohammed told Agence La Belle France-Presse.
"Most people decided to leave their houses after the warring sides used heavy machine guns and mortars", mostly from two of the town's neighborhoods, he said.
Mohammed said it was not clear exactly how many people had quit the town on the shores of the Gulf of Aden, but he estimated it was "hundreds of families."
Located on the northernmost tip of Somalia, Puntland is one of the restive Horn of Africa country's five Federal States.

Ministry of higher education of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan announced that a new 170-member unit has been created for the security and protection of educational institutes.
A statement released by the ministry on Saturday, December 25 reads that the personnel of the unit are part of the ministry’s Special Forces that were trained in 313 central corps for 30 days.
Deputy Minister of higher education Lutfullah Khairkhaw said that the creation of a special unit to protect educational institutions was a must needed.
In the meantime, officials in the defense ministry addressing the new graduates said, protection of educational institutions is as important as their stronghold.
They acknowledged that their service equals worship.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan assigns a special unit for the protection of universities and schools after people filed numerous complaints about the behavior of Taliban affiliates now protecting these institutes.
It comes as public universities and high schools for girls are yet to be reopened.

Offspring - you raise and support them, and they can be so ungrateful
[ToloNews] A top military commander of the Islamic Emirate on Saturday warned Pakistan to stop firing artillery on Afghan soil, saying that the Afghan side is ready to give the same response if attacks by the Pakistani military do not cease.
This comes as residents of the western province of Kunar said that Pakistan has been targeting several parts of the province for the past two weeks.
Abu Dojana, commander of 201 Khalid Bin Walid Corps, said that the Islamic Emirate seeks good ties with its neighbors but its forces have the military equipment to defend the country.
"This is precious soil. We have paid a large sacrifice for it. We want to be good neighbors but if they keep attacking our soil, we will certainly give them a response," he said.
At least one civilian was wounded in mortar shelling by the Pakistani military on the Chogam area of Shiltan district in Kunar. The mortar shellings also inflicted financial damage on the residents.
"I was wounded by the mortar, a fragment hit my head. I was taken to Asadabad during the night. I was in the hospital for two days," said Anwar Shah, a wounded person.
Chogam area runs alongside the so-called Durand Line.
Some residents said that they have seen Pakistani drones operating in the province.
"We are being attacked by Pakistan. Everyone is in trouble, including children and women," said Salman, a resident of Shiltan district.
Earlier a video went viral on social media showing a Taliban commander warning the Pakistani military to refrain from attacking Afghanistan’s soil.
Pakistan has been targeting different parts in eastern Afghanistan for the past several years, inflicting heavy financial damage on the residents as well as causing casualties.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Greek coastiess scoured for survivors in the Aegean Sea on Saturday after the latest in a series of migrant boat accidents that have killed at least 30 people in just days.
Late Friday, the coastguard found 16 bodies, including those of three women and a baby, and rescued 63 people from a boat that overturned and sank near the island of Paros.
According to those rescued, around 80 people had been on the vessel.
Three coasties patrol boats, private vessels, a coasties plane as well as divers searched for more survivors, officials said.
The latest tragedy -- the third since Wednesday -- came amid high smuggler activity not seen in Greek waters in months.
Hours earlier, 11 bodies were recovered from another boat that ran aground on an islet north of the Greek island of Antikythera on Thursday evening.
Ninety people stranded on the islet were rescued, the coastguard said.
And on Wednesday, a dinghy carrying migrants colonists capsized off the island of Folegandros, killing at least three people.
Thirteen people were rescued, while dozens remain missing, Greek authorities said.
Survivors gave conflicting accounts: Some said there had been 32 people on board, while others put the number around 50, a coasties official told AFP.
The UN refugee agency UNHCR said the Folegandros accident could end up being the worst in the Aegean this year, as unknown number of people still missing.
"This shipwreck is a painful reminder that people continue to embark on perilous voyages in search of safety," said Adriano Silvestri, the UNHCR’s assistant representative in Greece.
Earlier Friday, the coastguard had intercepted another boat with 92 men and boys on board after it ran aground on the coast of the Peloponnese peninsula.
Three suspected smugglers who fled the boat on foot were later arrested.
The UNHCR estimates that more than 2,500 people have died or gone missing at sea as they tried to reach Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... from January through November this year.
Nearly one million people, mainly Syrian refugees, arrived in the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... in 2015 after crossing the sea to the Greek islands close to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... "These days, the criminal activity of smugglers, who are indifferent to human life, has intensified, stacking dozens of distressed people, without life jackets, on boats that do not even meet the basic safety standards," Giannis Plakiotakis, Maritime Affairs Minister said late Friday pointing the finger at Turkey, saying Ankara "lets smugglers act unchecked."

No fewer than five villages have been deserted as a result of the menace of bandidos, who reportedly collect levies from residents and also attack them.
The affected villages are Karazau Dantsauni, Gidan-tsamiya, Gurgurawa, Kwalaye and Gudan-kaura.
A resident of the area, Musa Sani, told PUNCH that they had contributed and paid N15million levy enforced by the bandidos but the hoodlums were demanding an additional amount.
He said, "The bandidos told us to give them N15million so that they would not attack us again. We sold some of our belongings including our farms and paid the sum but to our surprise, they are still insisting that they need more money. We informed the security agents about this sad development but nothing was done to prevent the bandidos from taxing us.
"We even staged a peaceful protest in order to draw the attention of the security agents to come to our rescue but unfortunately some of our people were arrested by the police. So, we have to leave our villages and look for safe places because these heartless bandidos can still come back to attack us.
"35 people, including women and kiddies, who refused to run away from the area were kidnapped and taken to the bandidos’ hideout.
"More than 10 people were killed by the bandidos in Karazau village alone, my younger brother, Ali, was among the slain victims."
He, however, called on security agents to come to their rescue and deploy adequate security personnel.
Zamfara Police Command's spokesperson, SP Mohammed Shehu, said there was no official complaint with regard to enforcement of levy on the communities by the bandidos.
He noted that the police command had in the past one month deployed security personnel to secure the areas.
He said, "Although we did not receive any complaints regarding the collection of levies by the bandidos, the Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Elkana, has already deployed the police in collaboration with other security agents to continue patrolling the area."
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The governor of Iraq’s Najaf province resigned on Friday, a day after another governor also quit following demonstrations against living conditions and corruption. Louai al-Yasseri resigned from his leadership in Najaf, in central Iraq, a day after the governor of Nasiriyah province in the south quit following the violent mostly peaceful suppression of protesters.
Their departures underline the challenges facing war-scarred Iraq and how little has changed despite protests that swept Baghdad and the South two years ago.
Tens of thousands of demonstrators erupted into the streets to express their anger at corruption, unemployment and crumbling public services, and hundreds bit the dust in protest-related violence.
Yasseri announced at a presser that he was leaving his post in the holy Shia city, according to the official Iraqi News Agency.
His resignation follows harsh criticism from prominent Shia leader Moqtada Tater al-Sadr ...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival, al-Khoei, assassinated only a few hours after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry... , who emerged as kingmaker following legislative elections in October.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sudanese security forces fired tear gas to disperse protesters in the capital Khartoum on Saturday as the opponents of military rule marched towards the presidential palace, a Rooters witness said, while internet services in the city were also cut.
It is the 10th day of major demonstrations since an Oct. 25 coup, with protests continuing even after Abdallah Hamdok was reinstated as prime minister on Nov. 21. The demonstrators have demanded that the military have no role in government during a transition to free elections.
In neighboring Omdurman on Saturday, security forces also fired tear gas at protesters around 2 km away from a bridge connecting the city to central Khartoum, another Rooters witness said.
Internet services were disrupted in the capital, Khartoum, and soldiers blocked roads early in the day, the witnesses said.
Locals were also unable to make or receive calls domestically.
Despite the internet being cut off, people were still able to post on social media, with images showing protests taking place in several other cities including Madani and Atbara.
At the same time, soldiers and Rapid Support Forces were out in force blocking roads leading to bridges linking Khartoum with Omdurman, its sister city across the Nile river, they said.
The SUNA state news agency reported that the province of Khartoum closed bridges on Friday evening in anticipation of the protests.
"Departing from peacefulness, approaching and infringing on sovereign and strategic sites in central Khartoum is a violation of the laws," SUNA reported, citing a provincial security coordination committee.
"Chaos and abuses will be dealt with," it added.
Protesters in Khartoum chanted: "Close the street! Close the bridge! Burhan will come straight to you," referring to military leader and sovereign council head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
They were also heard cheering when security forces fired tear gas, according to a Rooters witness.
A bigwig at one internet provider told Rooters the service disruption followed a decision by the National Telecommunication Corporation, which oversees the sector.

Any place serving alcohol, playing music, or television is a target to these fanatics.
The cancer of the religion of peace is spreading and the west needs to quit virtue signaling and deal with the problem.
[AlAhram] Mali's government has denied any deployment of Russian mercenaries from the Wagner group following charges by a group of 15 Western powers involved in the fight against jihadists in the Sahel country.
The government "gives a formal denial to these baseless allegations" of "an alleged deployment of elements from a private security company in Mali," it said in a statement released late Friday.
Mali's government "demands that proof be brought to it by independent sources" and said "Russian trainers" were in Mali as part of strengthening the operational capacity of the national defence and security forces.
Bamako was "only involved in a state-to-state partnership with the Russian Federation, its historical partner", said the statement signed by government front man Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga.
A group of 15 Western powers on Thursday expressed anger that Russian mercenaries working for the controversial Wagner group had started to deploy in Mali, accusing Moscow of providing material backing for the fighters.
The nations involved in the fight against a jihadist insurgency in Mali, including Canada, Germany, La Belle France and Britannia, said they "firmly condemn the deployment of mercenary troops on Malian territory".
"We are aware of the involvement of the Russian Federation government in providing material support to the deployment of the Wagner group in Mali and call on Russia to revert to a responsible and constructive behaviour in the region," they said.
It was one of the first official acknowledgements by Western capitals that the deployment of fighters has begun in Mali after months of warnings to the Bamako government.
GROWING CONCERN
There has been growing concern over the situation in Mali under transitional leader Colonel Assimi Goita -- who took office in June after the country's second coup in less than a year -- and in particular over fears a commitment to hold elections in February is slipping.
A French government source who asked not to be named said intense activity had been noted as the deployment went ahead.
"We are seeing repeated air rotations with military transport planes belonging to the Russian army and installations at Bamako airport to allow the arrival of a significant number of mercenaries," said the source.
Also noted had been frequent visits by Wagner executives to Bamako and the activities by Russian geologists known for their association with Wagner, said the source.
Despite the deployment of Russian mercenaries, the statement from the 15 powers indicated they planned to remain engaged in Mali, saying "we will not give up our efforts to address the needs of the Malian population".
Mali is the epicentre of a jihadist insurgency that began in the north of the country in 2012 and spread three years later to neighbouring Niger and Burkina Faso ...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other... La Belle France intervened in 2013 and now has roughly 5,000 troops in the region, but plans to lower that number to 2,500-3,000 by 2023.
French President Emmanuel Macron was due to raise concerns about the Wagner deployment on a visit to Mali this week to meet Goita for the first time.
However, a lie repeated often enough remains a lie... his trip was scrapped with Gay Paree blaming the Covid pandemic.
Gay Paree has previously said any deployment of Wagner militia would be incompatible with the presence of French troops.
[An Nahar] President Michel Aoun ...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah... on Saturday told Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi that "there is something bigger than the state’s decisions that is restricting the course of things," MTV reported.
Aoun’s remarks came in response to "admonishment" by al-Rahi, who said that "we did not believe that the government was formed," the TV network said.
"How can we leave it today unable to convene?" the patriarch asked the president during a Bkirki meeting that preceded Christmas Day Mass.
Leaving the meeting to take part in the mass, Aoun declined to make a statement and told news hounds that he will speak on Monday during a televised address.
Baabda sources told MTV that Aoun will focus on the general situation, especially Cabinet’s failure to convene and the port blast investigations.
"Things have reached the climax (of deterioration) and President Aoun will be decisive on Monday," the sources added.

[AlAhram] Tunisian coastguards have rescued 48 illegal migrants colonists trying to reach Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... from neighbouring Libya in a makeshift boat, the North African country's Red Islamic Thingy said on Saturday.
Red Islamic Thingy official Mongi Slim said the migrants colonists were intercepted and rescued off Zarzis when their boat broke down.
Libya, which plunged into civil war following the 2011 toppling and killing of leader Moamer Qadaffy, has become a major route for migrants colonists seeking to reach Europe to escape poverty and conflict.
The rescued migrants colonists were taken to El Ketef port before being transferred to International Organization for Migration (IOM) premises, Slim said.
A separate Tunisian defence ministry statement said the navy had rescued 28 migrants colonists aged between 14 and 33 off Zarzis on Thursday. They had also departed from Libya.
The IOM says that 23,000 people have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean since 2014 while trying to reach Europe -- including nearly 1,700 this year.
On Tuesday the IOM said at least 160 migrants colonists drowned off Libya's coast after their boats sank over the previous week.
The Italian island of Lampedusa is located just 140 kilometres (less than 90 miles) from Tunisian shores.
[SHAFAQ] al-Fateh Coalition announced its total rejection of the staying of U.S. forces in Iraq under cover of training and advice, sending a warning message to Washington and the Iraqi government.
The head of the Coalition, Hadi al-Amiri, said at a memorial conference for the victims of the liberation of Dhuluiya, "We have been patient for a long time until the departure of foreign forces from Iraq, and we agreed, after all the stalling, that all American combat forces will withdraw. it is a goal that cannot be negotiated."
He stressed, "Our illusory sovereignty is a red line," adding that "my message is clear to the U.S. forces and the Iraqi government, that you should implement what was agreed. We do not accept any manipulation, fraud, or changing missions."
"If the U.S. forces want to remain in Iraq, they must bear this wrong decision." He said.
He affirmed, "We do not accept for Iraq's illusory sovereignty to be incomplete, and we do not accept even one foreign soldier, neither at Ain al-Assad base nor in Harir, neither for training nor consultation.
"If the Iraqi government needs trainers and advisers, it must make a contract that clarifies their whereabouts, numbers, and tasks."
Earlier this month, The top U.S. commander for the Middle East said that the United States would keep 2,500 troops in Iraq for the foreseeable future.
He also warned that he expects increasing attacks on U.S. and Iraqi personnel by Iranian-backed factions.
Marine Gen. Frank McKenzie said in an interview with The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that despite the shift by U.S. forces to a non-combat role in Iraq, they will still provide air support and other military aid for Iraq's fight against ISIS.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A road accident in southwestern Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites.... killed at least 10 people on Saturday, Iranian media reported.
The official IRNA news agency said the accident happened as a truck hit a minibus that was carrying laborers on the road linking the city of Khorramshahr with the city of Ahvaz in Khuzestan province.
The fatalities include the truck driver and nine workers from the minibus. Three other cars rear-ended the bus and each other. Thirteen injured were taken to local hospitals.
Roads in Iran regularly see such chain-reaction accidents and pileups. Fourteen people, including eight children, were killed in a road accident in March.
Iran has one of the world’s worst traffic safety records, with some 17,000 deaths annually. The grave toll is blamed on wide disregard for traffic laws, unsafe vehicles, and inadequate emergency services.

[DW] Asylum claims in Germany rose by a third in the first nine months of the year, as migration to Europe resumed following last year's COVID lockdowns.
Germany remains the number one destination country for asylum seekers to the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... in 2021, new statistics published Saturday revealed.
The newspapers of the Funke media group compared data from the EU's statistics agency Eurostat which showed Germany received 100,240 asylum applications in the first nine months of the year — a rise of a third compared to the same period in 2020.
GERMANY LEADS EU
Germany's share of all asylum claims was 28.4%, compared to 24.3% from January to September last year, and far more than any other EU country.
La Belle France saw 73,255 applications, with a 20% share of all EU claims, Spain received 39,755 (11% share) and Italia saw 28,645 (8% share).
At the other end of the table, Hungary saw just 30 applications for asylum in the first nine months of 2021.
The eastern European country, led by right-wing prime minister Viktor Orban, has been one of the most vocal opponents of EU asylum policy.
MIGRATION PICKS UP AGAIN
Across the 27-member EU, 355,955 first-time asylum applications were registered in the first nine months of this year, 15% more than in the same period last year.
The statistics show that migrants colonists from Afghanistan and Syria make up the largest groups — together they accounted for a third of all applicants, followed by migrants colonists from Pakistain and Iraq.
Last year, asylum applications dropped 31% across Europe, partly due to the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague) ...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. The Eurostat data also revealed that those applying in Germany had a far higher chance of being accepted.
In the three months to September, more than half (16,200 out of 29,970) of the applications to German authorities were approved.
In La Belle France, less than a third were successful (9,425 out of 33,325).

[SAHARAREPORTERS] The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, bought a new car as a Christmas gift for his wife, Queen Silekunola Naomi, a few hours before a divorce notice went viral on social media. "Think of this KIA as a going-away gift. Now get in it and go away"
The Osun State first class monarch’s spokesperson, Mr Moses Olafare, disclosed this to PM News on Friday.
According to Olafare, Ooni left the palace without any iota of dispute with his queen to participate in a three-day music program tagged, "Memorable Moments With Music" at the Muson Centre, Lagos State.
He said Osun paramount ruler was simply looking forward to returning home to his family only to see the reported separation on social media.
Olafare said, "Marriage is a private affair between two spouses and the marriage will come with an agreement between the two and if the marriage is to be dissolved, it will also come upon the agreement between the two, so to that effect, the palace is not aware of the separation between the Queen and Ooni of Ife because even Kabiyesi only saw it on social media like everybody.
"A night before yesterday when everyone went to bed; there was no indication to warrant the reported separation of the marriage, in fact, that previous day was when Kabiyesi brought a brand new car to serve as a Christmas gift to the queen; so if you are planning to separate with your wife tomorrow, why will you buy a car for her today?
"And so it became a surprise to everyone including Kabiyesi when we saw what was reported on social media. The palace is unaware of this because there are traditional procedures to follow.
"I can confirm that there are no issues at all to warrant that, at least as at two days ago there was no indication at all, the car was delivered to her yesterday after she has written that thing she wrote. As I speak to you that car has been delivered to her. Everybody is still surprised and we remain surprised. Well, we are watching."
SaharaReporters had on Thursday reported that Queen Naomi declared that her marriage with Ooni of Ife was over.
Naomi had written, "Today I announce the beginning of a new dawn and the close of a chapter. Today, I am a mother to God’s unique gift. I am no longer a slave to my thoughts of perfection. I, at this moment, announce that I shall no longer be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of Ile-Ife but as the Queen of the people and mother of my adorable Prince."

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] More than 30 people, including women and kiddies, were killed and their bodies burnt in Myanmar’s conflict-torn Kayah state on Friday, according to a local resident, media reports and a local human rights ...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty... group.
Karenni Human Rights Group said they found the burnt bodies of internally displaced people, including elders, women and kiddies killed by the military that rules Myanmar, near Mo So village of Hpruso town on Saturday.
"We strongly denounce the inhumane and brutal killing which violates human rights," the group said in a Facebook post.
The Myanmar military said it had shot and killed an unspecified number of "holy warriors with weapons" from the opposition armed forces in the village, state media said. The people were in seven vehicles and did not stop for the military, it said.
The Myanmar military could not immediately be reached for comment.
Photos shared by the human rights group and local media showed the charred remains of bodies on burnt-out truckbeds.
The Karenni National Defense Force, one of the largest of several civilian militias opposing the junta that led a Feb. 1 coup, said the dead were not their members but civilians seeking refuge from the conflict.
"We were so shocked at seeing that all the dead bodies were different sizes, including children, women and old people," a commander from group told Rooters, asking not to be named.
A villager who asked not to be named for security reasons said he was aware of the fire on Friday night but could not go to the scene as there was shooting.
"I went to see this morning. I saw dead bodies that had been burnt, and also the clothes of children and women spread around," he told Rooters by phone.
[An Nahar] A Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... i rebel attack on Saudi Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century... 's southern border town of Jizan killed two people and maimed seven more late Friday, Saudi state-run media reported.
Yemen's Iran's Houthi sock puppets ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him... rebels launched a projectile that killed a Saudi citizen and Yemeni resident in the southwestern Saudi province of Jizan, the official Saudi Press Agency reported. Six of the maimed are Saudis and one is a Bangladeshi national, Saudi media said.
Shrapnel also smashed into nearby cars and shops.
The fatal cross-border attack marks an escalation in Yemen's long-running civil war. Saudi-led military coalition Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s struck Sanaa earlier on Friday, hitting a military camp near the city center, Saudi media reported. Houthi media said the strikes had hit a populated neighborhood, damaging homes.
On Saturday, Yemeni Brig. Gen. Yehia Sarie, a Houthi front man, said the rebels fired three ballistic missiles on Jizan, targeting what he described as "vital and sensitive" sites there. He provided no further details.

Adding to the weeks-long queue of 800 reported yesterday waiting off Italy to dump their human cargoes.
[AlAhram] A German NGO said Saturday that one of its migrant rescue ships has picked up more than 270 people from the central Mediterranean Sea in three operations since Friday.
Sea Watch said on its Twitter account that its ship, Sea-Watch 3, helped two inflatables that had run into trouble in the early hours of Christmas Day.
The two dinghies were carrying around 100 and 80 people respectively and were rescued around 38 nautical miles (70 kilometres) off the coast of Libya, a front man told AFP.
Sea Watch said its team was now looking after around 270 people in all, after picking up 93 people in a wooden boat in international waters south of the Italian island of Lampedusa on Friday morning.
Sea-Watch 3 set out on its "Christmas rescue operation" on Thursday evening.
The rescue ship has been patrolling the sea off the Libyan coast since November 2017 and helping any vessels in distress.

As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market-Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Wokeybook Scratchings, I notice, are bound for a mighty fall.
We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Hip-hop, Bling and Bitches and Drugs,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Trayvon.
We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market-Place;
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a The Crips lost to The Bloods in Los Angeles, or Jussie got away cold.
With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch.
They denied that stealing’s a crime; they denied property even exists.
They denied that killing is wrong, if it’s a cracker who’s shot.
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised we could pay our way out.
When the Clintonian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace (if we legalizes crack cocaine).
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, then only crooked federal agents would be armed.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Wokeybook Scratchings said: “Stick to the Devil you know.”
On the first CRT tablets we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour’s wife and ended by killing the ho.)
Till our women had only mulattoes and the men drank by burn barrels all day,
And the Gods of the Wokeybook Scratchings said: “Partay on, brutha!”
In the Booshiferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By just laying back and enjoying it, comon, all y’all;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Wokeybook Scratchings said: “Get your slim ass down to Rodeo and grab some shit.”
Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew,
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, (it’s mostly 10 karat, dude) and my nine’s better than your nine, you better believe it, too.—
And the Gods of the Wokeybook Scratchings got in a stolen ride and split.

Good sentiment, M, and cleverly written, but both rhyme and rhythm schemes are seriously tortured. *shudder*

Well, two things. I did it in Internet time. I probably edited it for 3 hours after that. Second, tortured rhymes happen more often than many folks realize in hip-hop.

Your second pass doesn’t hurt, M. Thank you. :-) So few poems, even doggerel, spring forth fully formed like Athena. Almost all benefit from carving away all the bits that obscure the statue within.
A friend who wrote a high school textbook about poetry pointed out that listening to hip hop changes how language is heard, making it much harder to feel more traditional forms of poetry. My takeaway was a comparison between ballet and jazz dance, the latter distorting the forms of the former.
It is an intentional and deliberate attempt to kill off every piece that can sustain life. They target food systems, water treatment, electricity, refugee camps, inhabited cities and villages. All to kill innocents and remove their ability to sustain life beyond Assad's control. https://t.co/qC7MtvThZt
[NYPOST] Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo ...Dem politician, serving since 2021 as the Secretary of Commerce in the Biden Administration. She previously served as the 75th and first female Governor of Rhode Island from 2015 to 2021. Before that she was General Treasurer of Rhode Island from 2011 to 2015. Following her graduation from Yale Law School, Raimondo served as a law clerk to federal judge Kimba Wood of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York... is backing up a Jewish congressman’s incendiary claim that he heard protesters scream "Jew!" at him during a September event in New Jersey.
Garden State Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer caused a stir during a Dec. 13 speech at Rutgers University in which he said he was set upon by anti-Semitic protesters on Sept. 20 as he and Raimondo made a series of stops in Bergen County promoting President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. An incredibly corrupt version of Jar-Jar Binks, only well into his dotage. The dumbass who abandoned Afghanistan.... ’s infrastructure bill.
The pair were greeted by around 100 hecklers in Glen Rock — most of whom, Gottheimer claimed, came from the local chapter of the Working Families Party.
... a minor party of about 50,000 members across seventeen states and Washington, DC that claims to be “democrat socialist”. But really, with activist members like ACORN, we know what they really are, and why they don’t like Jews...
The situation was intense enough that Raimondo’s security detail insisted the pair travel in the commerce secretary’s vehicle.
"They were going from store to store protesting and as we were going into the bakery someone from the crowd derisively screamed ’Jew!'" Gottheimer said, adding that Raimondo heard the remark too and reacted with disgust. "She couldn’t believe it. I remember looking at her."
Raimondo told The Post this week she too heard the hateful jeers.
"Anti-Semitism is wrong, reprehensible and unacceptable. I join Congressman Gottheimer in condemning these hateful attacks that have absolutely no place in our politics," Raimondo said.
Though a Democrat, Gottheimer is among his party’s most moderate voices and his attacks on "The Squad" and progressives has long drawn activist ire. WFP endorsed his unsuccessful 2020 primary opponent Arati Kreibich — who was at the protest herself.

Yes. We need to stop using that BS term, "progressive," to describe these characters. They're just Marxists without a formal Communist Party structure behind them.
[SHAFAQ] A source in al-Fatah alliance revealed that Hadi al-Ameri, the head of the alliance and the Secretary-General of Badr Organization, will handle the part related to forming the government in the negotiations with the Sadrist bloc according to the division of labor between the Coordination Framework forces.
The source told Shafaq News Agency that the leaders of the Shiite Consortium divided the talks with the other blocs into three axes.
"The first axis will be handled by the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, who will hold the talks with the Kurdish forces to reach a consensual formula that satisfies all the parties and the higher interest of the country."
"In the second axis, former Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi will handle the talks with all the Sunni forces to ensure their endorsement of the Framework's standpoint."
"The two leaders have made a headway in the negotiation rounds held over the past few days," he said.
"Al-Ameri will handle the talks with the leader of the Sadrist movement, Moqtada Tater al-Sadr ...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival, al-Khoei, assassinated only a few hours after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry... , and the leading figures in the movement. A meeting will be held soon between both parties."
"The location of the meeting is yet to be decided, but it is more likely to take place in al-Hanana, the headquarters of al-Sadr in Najaf. The meeting will be dedicated to reaching an agreement over the details related to forming the government if the latter decided to rejoin the Shiite house and form a majority that forms the upcoming national and consensual government."
"The Coordination Framework is sparing no effort to bring the Sadrist movement into the Framework to form a unified Shiite Coalition that agrees upon a comprehensive national agenda."

Medics in Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... said that three people died and six others were maimed in the Coalition Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s late Friday.
On Friday, the Arab Coalition said a Houthi projectile that hit the Saudi city of Jazan has led to the killing of two civilians, a Saudi national and a Yemeni resident.
The Coalition said another Houthi projectile hit the Saudi city of Najran a city in southwestern Saudi Arabia near the border with Yemen. It is the capital of the province of the same name, a favored target of Houthi rocket forces because they can see it, so there's no math involved.... The Arab Coalition added that the hostile attacks were launched from the Yemeni city of Sadaa. The coalition said its airstrikes were in response to what it called "the attack’s origins" and said it will follow that with a wider attack on Houthi military targets.

Actually, though the defense of St Vith was important and the Fifth Panzer Army which attacked it was there to provide flanking cover to the Sixth Panzer Army, which was tasked with breaking through to the West of St. Vith and moving northwest to the plains of Belgium, destroying allied supplies to the Netherlands, and even capturing Antwerp and trapping our armies there.
Sixth Panzer army tasked three infantry divisions and a Panzer Deivision with the job of breaking through American lines facing them . These were held by the 99th Infantry which had arrived in Europe in November, and some unites of the Second Infantry.
Amazingly the Germans were never able to break through. Eventually the Sixth Panzer Army gave up and enwent through St Vith an effort to get around the seemingly unbeatable 99th Infantry.
The defense of Elsenborn Ridge put up by the 99th meant that the Fifth Panzer Army was trying to protect the flank of an attack that failed. Bastogne was in exactly the opposite direction from Hitler's goal, which was Antwerp. Our control of it denied use of roads running West from it that could lead toward Antwerp, Abandonment of St. Vith was not the smartest move, of the war.
The proximity fuse played an important role the success of the 99th, It was made available to our troops and first deployed on Dec 15. Unfortunately the Germans captured a supply dump containing that weapon which was used against our troops attacking down from the Eiffel.
The Germans rated the forces it faced, and considered the 99th Infantry to be the strongest dividion in the American Army.

^Ditto that TW. I had the privilege to speak to those; a few, there at the time. The weather was extreme. Huge lighting storms, cold, snow a harrowing experience. Vivid memories lasting a lifetime. I couldn't tell in the video but I was told no rubber on caterpillar tracks. So a very great fear of being hit by lightning. An Officer afterward would always tremble when a lighting storm occurred for the rest of his life. Black Forest area as I recall.

LIEGE by Christmas, Brussels by New Year's" was Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt's promise to his soldiers. But his operation backfired. Battle Babies—the men of the 99th Infantry Division—know why. For two days, Dec. 16 and 17, 1944, the 99th stood alone at a hot corner of the Battle of the Bulge—in front of Elsenborn, Krinkelt, Wirtzfeld, Bullingen—while the Wehrmacht's best troops lowered the boom against their thinly-held line.
Spread over a 20-mile front and without reserves, the green troops under Maj. Gen. Walter E. Lauer battled six divisions—the 12th, 246th, 277th and 326th Volksgrenadier, the 3rd Panzer and the 12th SS Panzer Divs., plus elements of paratroop outfits. This display of power called for a show of guts to face it, much less to beat it off.

Lauer was promoted to Major General on January 15, 1944 and trained his division for deployment overseas. He led the 99th through major battles and campaigns in Belgium and Germany until VE Day.After the war he took command of the 66th Infantry Division from August to October 1945; the 80th Infantry Division from October to December, 1945; and the 66th Infantry Division. Lauer retired from military service on 31 March 1946, but remained in Europe to work for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration until early 1947.
Lauer returned to the United States and moved to Monterey, California near Fort Ord, the successor to Gigling Reservation, which he helped found and build in 1941 and 1942. Lauer died of cancer on 13 October 1966, at the Fort Ord Army Hospital. He was inurned at the Golden Gate National Cemetery near San Francisco on 15 October 1966.

My uncle Bob was in the 443 and was captured when the two regiments of the 106ID were surrendered. He spent the rest of the war in a German POW camp, and weighed less than 100 pounds when liberated. His pocket bible was filled with scribbled descriptions of food they talked about constantly. He never missed a meal for the rest of his life and hated all things German. They kept the galley on the troop ship coming home open 24/7 for the POWs but Mom said he was still a scarecrow whn she first saw him at Walter Reed.
[Rudaw] One of the leaders of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS) involved in the 2014 attack on the Kurdish town of Kobane in northeast Syria (Rojava) has been arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Farhad Shami, the head of SDF Media Center, said in a tweet on Saturday that "our forces announce the arresting of one of the most dangerous ISIS’s emirs who had participated in the 2014 attack against Kobane & committed many massacres against our people in NE Syria."
Shami did not clarify when and where the ISIS leader was detained. However, man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them... he added that his "confessions" will be released soon.
The ISIS leader, named Mohammed Abd al-Awwad and known as Rashid, admitted to being the officer of terrorist operations in the bully boy group, the SDF said in a statement published along with his confession video.
He was tasked to arrange an operation to storm a prison holding ISIS members in Hasaka, as well as "securing weapons and ammunition and leading the ’jacket wallahs’ in the possible attack," the forces noted. Fourteen suicide bombers and two bombs were prepared for the attack.
ISIS seized control of swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria, declaring a so-called caliphate in 2014. In mid-September that year, the group began laying siege to Kobane, in Syria’s Aleppo province, taking village after village as they slowly tightened a noose around the city. Thousands of civilians fled across the border to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund... With the help of the coalition and Peshmerga forces, the YPG - backbone of the SDF - defeated ISIS faceless myrmidons in the city on January 26, 2015. This was the first major military defeat of ISIS, and Kobane made headlines around the world, becoming a symbol of victory over the terror group.
The weeks of battle to free Kobane left some 70 percent of the city destroyed. The local population and authorities have slowly brought life back to the city, reconstructing houses and roads and restoring basic services.
The terror group was territorially defeated in Iraq in 2017 and Syria two years later. However, man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them... it continues to carry out bombings, hit-and-run attacks, and abductions across both countries.
SDF, with aerial support from the anti-ISIS global coalition, have increased operations against the group in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria where the faceless myrmidons remain active.
Five "dangerous" members of ISIS were killed in a joint raid by the SDF and the coalition near al-Busayrah town in Deir ez-Zor.
According to the latest Pentagon report on the fight against ISIS, the bully boys’ activities "significantly" decreased from July to September 2021, but, citing the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), it said "there were signs that the group is ’poised to increase activity in the coming quarter after a period of recuperation and recovery.’"
At least four kabooms were recorded in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, on Saturday, multiple sources told SaharaReporters.
Sources said the bomb explosions happened around Cashew Plantation in Polo General area of the ancient town as residents were preparing for morning prayer.
"We were waken with explosions around 5:30am today. The explosives landed in several areas around Cashew Plantation within the metropolis," one of the sources told SaharaReporters.
It is unclear if Boko Haram ...the name means Western education is forbidden, They're what you get as the result of a traditional African or Islamic education... gunnies are behind the attacks, which happened a few hours after the group launched multiple rocket attacks on the city ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Borno to inaugurate projects done by the state government .
The gunnies were said to have launched the attack from the outskirt of Auno, which is about 15 kilometres away from the city.
The explosives landed in several areas including Ngomari, Bulumkutu, Ajilari and Ayafe communities within the metropolis, killing at least five children.
Boko Haram has continued to operate in different parts of the North-East, especially in Borno State despite the claim of the government that the sect has been defeated.

the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
