An unusual surface-to-surface missile attack targeting Damascus International Airport that took place two weeks ago and was attributed to Israel was successful in damaging some runways, preventing large cargo planes from landing at the airport.
As a result, Iran has been unable to land the Boeing 747 cargo planes it uses to deliver systems equipped with guidance technology for upgrading existing missiles into precision-guided missiles, Channel 12 news reported Tuesday.
Citing satellite imagery of the Syrian airport following the alleged attack, the report noted that runways at the site were bombed on both ends, shortening them significantly and preventing large planes from landing.
According to the report, the strategic strike achieved its purpose and helped address an issue of great concern for Israel — Iranian weapons and missile-improving systems shipped from Iran to its Lebanese proxy Hezbollah through Syria.
Israel has admitted to carrying out hundreds of sorties over Syria in the last decade, mostly to stymie attempts by the Islamic Theocratic Republic to transfer weapons or establish a foothold in a country that borders Israel.
The attack that hit the Damascus International Airport on May 20, however, was unusual in that it used surface-to-surface missiles launched from the Golan Heights, the Syrian state-run broadcaster SANA reported.
Three Syrian soldiers were reportedly killed in the strike, which was the second within a week to target the country.
The strike came hours after the Israel Defense Forces’ Arabic-language spokesperson accused the son-in-law of slain Iran Revolutionary Guards Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani of smuggling weapons from Iran to its Lebanese proxy Hezbollah using civilian flights via Syria.
Avichay Adraee accused Iran and Hezbollah of "endangering civilians" by smuggling the armaments via civilian flights to Damascus International Airport in order "to maintain secrecy."
There was no immediate comment from the IDF following the strike.
[IsraelTimes] Police open fire in Issawiya to scare away attackers, who remain on the lam, though firearm later found; one officer lightly injured
Police were deployed across the Paleostinian East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya late Wednesday and early Thursday after two off-duty officers were attacked there and one had a gun briefly stolen.
Officers opened fire in the crowded residential neighborhood to fend off the assault, during which one police officer suffered light injuries. The suspects remained on the loose as of 2 a.m. Thursday, though the stolen firearm was recovered.
The two cops were in an unmarked car with another passenger near the entrance of Issawiya at approximately 11:15 p.m. when they were attacked with "severe violence," police said.
Assailants threw stones at the car and shot pepper spray at the cops and the other passenger while chasing them into the adjacent French Hill neighborhood.
"The police who feared for their lives had gun sex in an attempt to clear away the attackers, who then expeditiously departed at a goodly pace," a police statement said.
The officer who required treatment was injured by both pepper spray and rocks thrown at him, according to police.
The car they were driving in suffered heavy damage. Video from the scene showed all the windows of the car smashed and a large cinderblock resting on the windshield.
A large number of police were deployed following the incident to locate the attackers and recover the gun, which they eventually found. Among those at the scene was Jerusalem police chief Doron Turgeman.
The incident occurred hours after a Paleostinian man drove off with a soldier’s rifle after a traffic stop in the southern West Bank earlier in the day.
It was not immediately clear if the suspect grabbed the weapon, as alleged by the army, or if it got stuck in the car door, as security footage appeared to show.
"During the questioning, the driver was asked to identify himself. The driver of the vehicle grabbed the M16 weapon of one of the officers and began driving while dragging the officer until the weapon detached from his body," police said in a statement.
Two security camera videos of the incident appeared to show one of the officers removing the rifle with a shoulder strap from his body, and thrusting the weapon into the window of the car, before the driver took off.
According to Hebrew-language media reports, the man turned himself in to the Paleostinian Authority security forces, with the weapon, which will be returned to Israel.

Actually she married Musk when he was a nobody, I think she got cut loose soon after he earned his millions.
My ex-wife worked at zip2 in the 90s, Musks first company. He wanted to be one of the common folk with a cube among the engineers instead of an office. Problem was he had a lot of meetings so he needed a bigger cube, like four times the normal size. Then they eventually got him an office because an office doubles as a meeting room with privacy.
So good intentions but narrow focused in his thinking, at least then and on that issue.
[IsraelTimes] IDF reportedly drops pamphlets warning Syria’s military against operating in off-limits area between the two countries
Israeli tanks shelled an observation post set up by the Syrian military in a demilitarized part of the Golan Heights early Wednesday morning, Syrian reports said.
According to several local Syrian sources, the outpost near the village of al-Malgah in the Quneitra region was destroyed in the attack.
The Israel Defense Forces refused to comment, in line with its policy of not officially acknowledging specific strikes in Syria, save for those that are in retaliation for attacks against Israel.
Following the strike, Israeli aircraft dropped flyers near the border warning Syrian soldiers against operating in the demilitarized zone between the two countries, Syria’s pro-opposition Houran Radio reported.
The flyers, which were written in Arabic and addressed to the "commanders of the Syrian [Arab] Army," matched the style of similar leaflets that have been dropped in Syria in the past and included the silhouette of an eagle — the symbol of the IDF’s 210th Bashan Division, which is tasked with defending Israel’s frontier with Syria and the Golan Heights.
"As we warned you previously, we will not tolerate any presence of the Syrian army as long as it continues to violate the disengagement agreement, by being in a demilitarized zone," the flyer read.
The flyer also included images of Syrian soldiers allegedly seen operating in the demilitarized zone.
According to another pro-opposition Syrian source in the Golan Heights, the location was used by Iranian or Iran-backed forces. The claim could not be independently verified, but Israel has repeatedly accused the Syrian military of actively assisting the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group in the area.
The IDF has warned the Syrian military against this, both through flyers dropped along the border and through overt public appeals, in some cases naming the Syrian and Hezbollah officials involved, including officers from Syria’s 90th Brigade and 1st Division.
Israel fears Iranian entrenchment on its northern frontier, and it has repeatedly struck Iran-linked facilities and weapons convoys destined for Hezbollah.
The demilitarized zone, which is about seven kilometers (3.5 miles) at its widest and 200 meters (yards) at its narrowest, was created after the 1973 Yom Kippur War, in which Syria tried to retake the strategic plateau.
The Golan Heights was captured by Israel from Syria during the 1967 Six Day War.

Cineworld, a British movie theater chain headed by an Israeli, has pulled a controversial film about the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad from all of its locations after protests took place outside of theaters, a Wednesday report said.
The chain said the decision was "to ensure the safety of our staff and customers," according to the BBC.
More than 120,000 people have signed a petition for the film, "The Lady of Heaven," to be pulled from UK cinemas. Protests of up to 200 people were reported at the Bolton and Birmingham theater locations of Cineworld on Sunday.
The chain is headed by Israeli CEO Mooky Greidinger, who, along with his brother, Israel, owns 29 percent of the company.
The Bolton Council of Mosques in particular spoke out against the film, calling it "blasphemous" and saying it "misrepresents orthodox historical narratives and disrespects the most esteemed individuals of Islamic history," according to the report.
The film’s executive producer, Malik Shlibak, said he welcomed people expressing their views but said cinemas should "stand up and defend their right to show films that people want to see."
"I think cinemas are crumbling to the pressure, and taking these decisions to quell the noise," Shlibak told The Guardian.
The film, which premiered in the UK on June 3, tells the story of Lady Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad. Some critics argue that the very mention of the prophet is an insult to Islam. "everything is an insult to Islam, even Mohamhead"
The film’s website explains that holy figures were not represented by actors, but were rather portrayed as special effects and lighting techniques, as the representation of sacred figures is taboo in Islam. The Israeli military on Wednesday accused the Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist group of conducting clandestine activities along the border with Israel under the guise of an environmental group known as "Green Without Borders."
The Israel Defense Forces has made similar claims in recent years, identifying several observation posts owned by the non-governmental organization, which the army said were actually being used to carry out intelligence and reconnaissance work for the Iran-backed terror group.
"Unveiled: A new frontier reconnaissance site for Hezbollah bandidosDeath Eaters to collect intelligence on the Lebanese border under the guise of the Green Without Borders association," Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language front man, said on Twitter.
In a series of tweets, Adraee attached photos of the alleged Hezbollah members taking pictures and observing Israel from a small structure on the border.
According to the IDF, the alleged Hezbollah position represents a violation of United Nations ...a formerly good idea gone bad... Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 second Lebanon war.
The resolution calls for gangs besides the official Lebanese military and peacekeeping United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to remain north of the country’s Litani River.
In 2017, the United Nations rejected Israel’s claim that Hezbollah was using the NGO as a front for its activities.
At the time, UNIFIL said that while "Green Without Borders" members have planted trees in the area, it "has not observed any unauthorized armed persons at the locations or found any basis to report a violation of resolution 1701."
Adraee noted that the head of the IDF’s Northern Command said Tuesday that Hezbollah recently stepped up construction on military infrastructure near the border.
"Recently, Hezbollah has intensified construction on its posts right here along the border," said Maj. Gen. Amir Baram, at an annual ceremony commemorating those IDF soldiers who bit the dust in the Second Lebanon War.
"We can see the operatives approaching the border area. We know them: their names, where they come from and where they are working. When the time comes, they will pay the price," he said.
Baram vowed that the IDF will "destroy all the infrastructure" in question and "will reduce it to nothing."
Baram also directed a jab at UNIFIL: "Hezbollah is continuing to build its terrorist assets despite the presence of UNIFIL forces close to its positions."
But, he added, "Don’t worry, we never rely on anyone else for our safety."
The army in the past has accused UNIFIL of failing to stymie Hezbollah activity near the border, despite the terror group being banned from operating in the area.

Hashemi on the other hand operated mostly in Hong Kong and China, and according to the Treasury Department, he used "his access to the international financial system to launder vast sums of money for the IRGC-QF and Hizballah [Hezbollah]." Hashemi also used Chinese nationals to open bank accounts and used these individuals to purchase "U.S.-origin, dual-use products for onward shipment to Iran."
All three individuals were sanctioned by the US in the past years for their roles in helping the IRGC-QF which was sanctioned by the US in 2007. The three individuals were amongst 16 individuals, entities and groups that were sanctioned including two groups operating out of Bahrain and reportedly directed by IRGC.
Oman, a member of the TFTC task force, has played a critical role in acting as an intermediary between Tehran and the world powers to revive the 2015 Iran ...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence... nuclear deal. It is not clear if Monday’s action in sanctioning the IRGC-linked individuals and groups will impact the way in which Iran perceives Oman.

"The Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran has so far had extensive cooperation with the ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency," state TV said in its report. "Unfortunately, the agency, without considering this cooperation ... not only did not appreciate this cooperation, but also considered it as a duty of Iran."
Tehran said its civilian nuclear arm, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, monitored the shutdown of the cameras. It said 80% of the existing cameras are IAEA "safeguard" cameras and they will continue to operate as before.
The Vienna-based IAEA declined to immediately comment.
Iran already has been holding footage from IAEA surveillance cameras since February 2021 as a pressure tactic to restore the atomic accord.
Iran and world powers agreed in 2015 to the nuclear deal, which saw Tehran drastically limit its enrichment of uranium in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions. In 2018, then-President Donald Trump ...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party... unilaterally withdrew America from the accord, raising tensions across the wider Middle East and sparking a series of attacks and incidents.
Talks in Vienna over Iran's tattered nuclear deal have been stalled since April. Since the deal's collapse, Iran runs advanced centrifuges and has a rapidly growing stockpile of enriched uranium. Nonproliferation experts warn Iran has enriched enough up to 60% purity — a short technical step from weapons-grade levels of 90% — to make one nuclear weapon if it choose.
Iran insists its program is for peaceful purposes, though United Nations experts and Western intelligence agencies say Iran had an organized military nuclear program through 2003.
Building a nuclear bomb would still take Iran more time if it pursued a weapon, analysts say, though they warn Tehran's advances make the program more dangerous. Israel has threatened in the past it will carry out a preemptive strike to stop Iran — and already is suspected in a series of recent killings targeting Iranian officials.
In a statement Tuesday to the IAEA, La Belle France, Germany and the United Kingdom warned the moves taken by Tehran are "further reducing the time Iran would take to break out towards a first nuclear weapon and it is fueling distrust as to Iran's intentions."
"The IAEA has been without crucial access to data on centrifuge and component manufacturing for a year and half now," the statement warned. "This means that neither the agency, nor the international community, know how many centrifuges Iran has in its inventory, how many were built, and where they may be located."
The countries urged Iran "to stop escalating its nuclear program and to urgently conclude deal that is on the table."
But just before the camera announcement, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran had insisted the country had no secret nuclear activity and accused the West of making a "political move" by trying to censure his country.
"Iran has had maximum cooperation with the IAEA," Mohammad Eslami said, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.

The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, Ma. Gen Yahya Rasool, announced arresting three ISIS terrorists in Baghdad.
Rasool said in a statement today that the Counter-Terrorism service managed, in cooperation with al-Sulaymaniyah's Asayish forces, to arrest the perpetrators.
In addition, another terrorist who had important information was arrested in the Iraqi capital.

Iran will raze the cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa should its enemy Israel make any mistake, Commander of the Iranian army ground forces Kiumars Heydari threatened on Tuesday.

As an old neighbor told me few years back, many CIA managers are not well trained at all, they lack exposure to the various real theaters in with are involved. Their knowledge and experience it’s only theoretical. Our media is reporting what is been forceful told by our fascist civil servants, protecting their job security at any cost.
In USA, young people come into intel horribly miseducated from about 6th grade onwards; poisoned in the head at US universities (and military academies).
And then you have to add the politicization of US intel.
The top intel people want to see things that fit their narrative or fantasy.

I liked the suggestion in All Quiet on the Western Front that the leaders of countries that want to make war against each other should strip down to their drawers, get into a boxing ring and have at it so the young men could live in peace. It would be a hoot to watch Biden and Putin doing just that.
