Vid: Grand Forks Air Force Base deadly shooting 2 Airmen Dead
[KVRR] A shooting early this morning at the Grand Forks Air Force Base left two airmen dead.

Col. Cameron Pringle says the two airmen died while in a dormitory at around 4:30 in the morning.

He would not go into details about what led up to the shooting.

The two were active-duty members of the 319th Reconnaissance Wing.

“Let me be clear: our installation is safe,” he says. “Our dormitories are safe. We shouldn’t worry about the condition of the dormitories. Our airmen are well-cared for, and they’re provided with good supervision.”

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is investigating the shooting, which officials say is an isolated incident.

Coronavirus herd immunity? Not in Israel, according to a serological study
[JPost] - Israelis are not immune to the novel coronavirus and therefore must continue to maintain Health Ministry directives, according to Prof. Dan Cohen, a member of Israel’s Epidemic Treatment Team and the head of Tel Aviv University’s School of Public Health.

Cohen helped run the country’s first serological survey to help determine how many Israelis have had SARS-CoV-2 and may have developed antibodies to protect them from contracting the virus again. The results show that only around 2% to 3% of the population has been infected, based on samples from 1,709 people from across the country.
Children (and savages) assume that whatever they wish for is true. Grownups check.

#2  Perhaps the very effective masking and social distancing prevented enough of the herd to get infected in the first place? Do our efforts gain us anything or just defer the cost - at great price? (I don't really think we know, but I do think we should at least try to address the question.) Maybe deferred infection will have great benefit, if we develop effective and safe vaccines and/or treatments in the meantime.

#3  ^I once posted on herd immunity. Did you know that there are no human examples of "natural" (sans vaccination) herd immunity?

In fact, if you read on swine flu, once a population becomes infected, they destroy it - instead of waiting for them to develop herd immunity. You know why? Because farmers know the fraction that'll survive isn't worth the bother.

That's why WHO, and that asshole in Sweden, and a smaller one in Stanford get my goat.

Dallas Protesters Arrested For Violating Curfew, Walking On Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge
[CBS] DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Protesters gathered in front of Dallas Police headquarters for a peaceful protest over George Floyd’s death last Monday while in Minneapolis Police custody.

The Dallas protesters gathered just about a half an hour before the city’s 7 p.m. curfew went into effect.

Officers stood watch at the front door of Dallas Police Headquarters.

Around 7:30 p.m., officers arrested three people for violating that curfew.

Pentagon Orders Active-Duty Military Police Unit to DC Region Amid Protests
[Mil.com] The Pentagon has ordered an active-duty battalion of military police soldiers from Fort Bragg, North Carolina to deploy to the Washington, D.C. area as the city braces for more violent demonstrations.

CNN was among the first to report the deployment order for between 200 and 250 MPs from Bragg. A Pentagon official confirmed to Military.com that the MPs are from the XVIII Airborne Corps.

The official did not specify what orders the MPs had been given. ABC reported, citing a Defense official, that the troops were being sent into the D.C. region but only on standby capacity, in the event that they are needed.

YouTube takes down NASA videos as Nat Geo tries to claim copyrights!
[ArsTechnica] SpaceX launch footage was taken down thanks to bogus copyright claim. The public domain video was restored to the public, but this happens a lot.

This weekend's launch, in which SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket successfully propelled the Crew Dragon spacecraft and the two astronauts on board from Florida safely into space, was amazing, awe-inspiring, and frankly, just plain cool to watch. And here in the age of inexpensive, tiny high-definition cameras and streaming content, it should be easy to catch up on it if you missed it—or even if you just want to watch it again for fun. But for most of the weekend and into this morning, you couldn't watch it at all, thanks to copyright content ID bots working overtime.

The May 30 launch was streamed live to NASA's YouTube channel and then archived, along with several shorter clips and highlights taken from the day-long livestream. NASA footage, like photo and video from other government agencies, is generally published into the public domain, not under copyright, and other entities can mirror or rebroadcast it. National Geographic also covered the launch, and its footage incorporated some of the NASA content. Then things got stupid.

By Sunday, the archival NASA video was no longer available to view, Twitter users spotted, because of a copyright claim from National Geographic. Attempts at that time to play back some of the NASA videos resulted in an error message saying, "Video unavailable: This video contains content from National Geographic, who has blocked it on copyright grounds."

NASA got involved by Sunday and pushed the companies for a fix. "Over the last few days our team at NASA has been in touch with YouTube who escalated the issue," NASA Communications Director Bettina Inclán said on Twitter Sunday night. "We also have been in contact with NatGeo who is committed to releasing the claims for Demo-2 coverage."

In the end, it appears that YouTube, NASA, and National Geographic got their issues sorted out. By 9:30am Eastern time this morning, the videos were restored and playable, and you can once again watch the launch to your heart's content.

IT KEEPS HAPPENING
Unlike Saturday's launch, however, this content ID claim was not a historic first but instead part of a familiar pattern. Almost this exact problem occurred back in 2012, when other businesses—in that case, the Scripps broadcast companies—improperly filed copyright claims against NASA hosting its own videos. The same happens to independent third parties who use public domain NASA footage.

YouTube introduced an appeals process for automated content ID claims in late 2012. For users whose videos get flagged—even when those videos use public domain content—the process for having them restored can still be challenging and esoteric.

That system is also exploitable. Last year, YouTube reached a $25,000 settlement with a Nebraska man over allegations that he abused copyright claims to extort other YouTubers by threatening them with bogus takedown requests unless they paid him money.

Low-flying military helicopters use wind-blowing 'show of force' tactic to break up protest crowds in Washington DC
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]

  • Twitter footage showed demonstrators quaking beneath deafening gusts

  • Many fled for cover as the winds kicked up debris and snapped tree branches

  • The 'show of force' tactic is conducted with jets in combat zones

  • The aircraft included Army UH-72 Lakota helicopters and UH-60 Black Hawks

Small groups now canvassing LEOs' neighborhoods,
'threatening to burn down our homes and kill our families'
[Law Enforcement Today] WASHINGTON D.C. – Law enforcement officials from across the country have reached out to Law Enforcement Today asking us to warn police across America about a potential threat.

And since dropping the article on Monday morning, we’ve received word from numerous people letting us know they’ve seen similar suspicious activity in their communities.

We’ve spoken with countless officers in the past 12 hours from across the country – all of whom have reported that their departments have made internal changes over the past few days to ensure both the on-duty and off-duty safety of their officers.

Transparently – our team debated internally whether or not to cover this story. We are America’s largest law enforcement owned and operated media outlet, and we are unapologetically pro-police.

Although we don’t hesitate to call out and provide media coverage of bad apples, our priority is in giving the voice to law enforcement that they’re often denied in the mainstream media.

The last thing we want to do is put officers at risk by giving bad people ideas.

But soon after this threat started spreading like wildfire online, we had law enforcement from across the country reach out. They pointed out that the threat is already circulating.

Many have asked us to address it so that departments are aware of it and can take precautions to make changes, if they deem it necessary – especially given how quickly it’s circulating.

#3  #2 They're counting on normies and conservatives to quietly cooperate and go like good little sheep to the slaughter.

Has anything happened to disabuse them of that notion?

One thing we're learning from the last few months is that it's much easier to enforce the law on the law-abiding.

And the police, like all collective bodies, will follow the path of least resistance.

Which, in their case, means cracking down on the non-left and kneeling to the left.

Also, if people start successfully protecting themselves, it might make folks wonder why we're paying for "protection" that never comes and gold-plated pensions.

And our "civil servants" simply can't abide that.

So I wouldn't take too much comfort in how supine they've been.

It's not us they're afraid of.

Remdesivir: George Soros & Bill Gates Partner with China on Coronavirus Drug!
[Intelligence Network] As drug manufacturers speed up their efforts to find a new treatment drug for the coronavirus outbreak that has devastated China and has caused a world-wide panic, a Chinese drug company just announced that it has started mass-producing an experimental drug from Gilead Sciences that has the potential to fight the novel coronavirus (1).

BrightGene Bio-Medical Technology, a Suzhou based company (2), just announced that it has developed the technology to synthesize the active pharmaceutical ingredients of Remdesivir, the drug developed by Gilead Biosciences. Its stock price surged 20% in Tuesday morning trading in Shanghai (1).

"While BrightGene said that it intends to license the drug from Gilead, its move to start manufacturing at this early stage is highly unusual and a potential infringement of the American company’s intellectual property."(1) This comes a week after Chinese researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology filed an application to patent Gilead’s drug Remdesivir to treat the new coronavirus, a bid that would give China leverage over the global use of the therapy to fight the outbreak (1)(3)(4).

The decision to seek a patent instead of invoking a "compulsory license" option that lets nations override drug patents in national emergencies, signals China’s commitment toward intellectual property rights. The timing is uncanny! Right? Gilead will retain the global rights to market the antiviral medication, once approved (3). Gilead has also announced that it is partnering with the Chinese Health Authorities on the clinical trials of Remdesivir as a treatment for coronavirus (5). Remdesivir was originally developed in 2016 by Gilead as a treatment for the Ebola virus (13). Many have argued that China stole the patent from Gilead due to a technicality, but you will soon see that this is indeed not the case (14).

I've said that many times about corporations that insist on having their manufacturing done in Third World countries or China. If that's what they want to do then they should move the entire corporation to China, including all corporate officers. #4  Alaska does not require residents to have concealed carry permits, but you can get one with background check and training, and then possessing it has lots of states with reciprocity.

If you have a non resident or resident concealed carry permit for Washington State, it is much more restricted in reciprocity with other states. So an Alaska Concealed Carry Permit is much more accepted with other states than a Washington permit.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Nebraska bar owner knocked down by protestors, comes up shooting, protestor dead, no charges
[New York Post] A Nebraska bar owner who shot and killed a George Floyd protester will not be charged because he acted in self-defense, authorities said Monday.

Prosecutors said Jake Gardner, the owner of The Hive bar in Omaha, ended up on his back during a confrontation with a group of protesters Saturday when he fired and struck 22-year-old James Scurlock, the Omaha World-Herald reported Monday.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said Scurlock initially jumped on Gardner’s back and began choking him after the bar owner fired off two warning shots.

"Mr. Gardner, as we know now, has said I did what I did to defend myself and we find that we can’t disprove that from the evidence that we have," Kleine told KMTV News.

He said witnesses and video from the scene confirm that Gardner, who is white, was backing up at the time and that no racial slurs were used during the confrontation with Scurlock, who was black.

Gardner, who has a legal gun permit, was seen on video outside the bar Saturday night apparently urging the crowd of protesters to move along.

Words are exchanged and Gardner ends up on his back in the middle of the street when the shots are fired, including the one that hit Scurlock in the neck and killed him.

James Scurlock Sr., the dead man’s father, said he wants an investigation into his son’s death.

"Once again I ask that we investigate this and I ask my people to stand by me strong but do it peacefully," he told KMTV.

Celebrities Bail Out Rioters In Virtueless Virtue Signaling
[Federalist] Hollywood celebrities love to virtue signal, and even in a world gone mad, Hollywood remains no different.

After engaging in pointless passive progressivism for years featuring corporate wokesters slipping in the occasional lesbian kiss scene here and there to celebrate themselves as champions of cultural acceptance, Hollywood elites are now actively encouraging the destruction of the nation’s burning cities.

Last week, a series of prominent American movie stars declared they would be donating to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, a non-profit organizing cash bail payments for Minneapolis protestors arrested amid the carnage of the restless riots.

The fund has now drawn the support of the Sadfie brothers, a pair of movie critically-acclaimed movie directors whose work includes the production of the Uncut Gems in 2019.

Other Hollywood figures to pledge donations to the fund include Seth Rogan, Steve Carell, and Ben Schwartz among others.

Pres. Trump declared Antifa a terrorist organization, and Democrats are worried
[American Thinker] On Sunday, President Trump took aim at Antifa, which apparently has driven the violent side of the protests ripping through America's Democrat-run cities. With full-throated support from Attorney General Barr, Trump is designating Antifa as a terrorist organization. This is an extremely important announcement because Antifa is more than just a terrorist group. It is, in fact, the paramilitary arm of the Democrat Party.

As is often the case, Trump made his consequential announcement via Twitter:

Posted by: lord garth || 06/02/2020 10:05 Comments || Top||

#6  No, the right term is not 'terrorism' but insurrection.

POTUS has clear authority under the 1807 Insurrection Act to declare this an insurrection, which case law has defined and clarified further as "a violent uprising by a group or movement acting for the specific purpose of overthrowing the constituted government and seizing its powers."

Antifa/BLM and their allies have a specific purpose of destroying the law enforcement capability of established governments across the United States.

They are not focused on creating fear or gaining property but on eliminating altogether the government's monopoly on violence. In essence they are like the Weathermen or the Black Panthers: a revolutionary organization whose goal is to bring down the government in our cities.

1. Post Hurricane Katrina, the Insurrection Act was amended to include "..any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy..." So it fits.

2. HWBush used pre Katrina version of this law during the Rodney King riots.

3. This only really works well if the State and locals are cooperating with it.

4. My preference is legislation specifically targeting Antifa. Should pass Senate easily. HOR Dems will resist for a while but eventually some Dems will vote for bill.

Posted by: Clem || 06/02/2020 12:59 Comments || Top||

#14  It's a European, originally Weimar German, movement.

Historical legacy of ANTIFA - "Antifaschistische Aktion", from post-WWI Germany - recounted by a left-wing historian here.

Nb this article' from 3 years ago. Even though this rather pompous historian sniffs that Antifa is just "a left-wing subculture with its own social spaces and cultural life" which "is not the same thing as a mass social movement," they should not be underestimated.

They have learned how to use social media effectively across a broad geographic area in order to identify vulnerable police and then organize swiftly and bring concentrated, overwhelming - and deadly - force to bear against weak or poorly-protected key targets.

If they're not already coordinating across the US and Europe they may well do so in the near future.

#22  there is an Antifa in modern Germany and it is watched closely by the Govt there

there are also probably Antifa groups in some other countries in Europe

but there have been almost no antifa sparked riots and looting in Europe

the reason for this is that Jihadist groups do almost all the rioting and looting in Europe leaving little space for antifa

btw, today, the WaPo and Vox have put out antifa apology type articles,

legislation would also allow congressional testimony which would cover the many black property and business owners taken down by antifa which in turn would help get legislation passed and the legislation could be much better focused than an exec order

The Economic Fallout of the Lockdown and Riots will not Diminish Support for Trump
[American Thinker] Since November 9, 2016, the nation’s elites have been obsessively determined to either use the unchecked clout of the deep state to force Donald Trump to resign, or failing that, so besmirch him and his voter base as to ensure his defeat in 2020. For the first three years of the Trump presidency both stratagems were employed in tandem. However, with the abject failure of the Russian collusion hoax and the Ukrainian impeachment fiasco, these conspirators are now left with relying on the besmirchment option and doing everything possible to make certain that the coronavirus lockdown and the burning of American cities by the militant wing of the American left will deleteriously affect the economy going into November of 2020.

The entire dictionary of modern epithets has been utilized in attacking Donald Trump and his supporters. He has been relentlessly compared to virtually all 20th Century despots and mass murderers. He has also been accused of committing treason, of being a sexual predator, a misogynist, a xenophobe, a virulent racist and a homophobe.

Despite all the ad hominem attacks, Trump’s greatest sin is that he is uncivil and devoid of any character. The definition of "character and civility," as it applies to this President, revolves around his perceived lack of sophistication and erudition, his speech patterns and temperament, his incessant use of Twitter as well as assigning crude nicknames to his opponents, and lastly, his insistence on being who he really is and not hiding behind a conventional political facade.

Despite this relentless bombardment of epithets and accusations, Donald Trump has not lost any of his core supporters and has, in fact, gained additional support. Further, reliance on calculatingly prolonging the economic fallout from the Wuhan Virus lockdown and the Antifa sponsored rampages will not be effective in altering the mindset of these voters.

PA says pressure won’t cut spigot of payments to prisoners
[IsraelTimes] The families of Paleostinians in Israeli jails will continue to receive salaries despite Israeli measures aimed at cracking down on the policy, Paleostinian Authority Prisoners Affairs Commission chairman Qadri Abu Bakr says.

After an Israeli military edict that criminalized Paleostinian Authority funding for convicted terrorists, several banks closed or froze prisoners’ accounts in the West Bank and Jordan in early May.

Efforts are also being made to create a financial institution directly controlled by the Paleostine Liberation Organization to handle the prisoners’ accounts, rather than placing them in private banks, Abu Bakr says. This measure, Abu Bakr indicates, would allow them to avoid Israeli sanctions.

The Israeli government has long opposed the hundreds of millions of dollars which the PLO pays to Paleostinians convicted of terrorism and their families every year, which Israel says encourages terror.

Afghanistan
Taliban Continues to Back Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan: UN
[ToloNews] A UN report released on Friday states that the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
has failed to fulfill one of the core parts of the US-Taliban agreement, namely that it would break ties with al-Qaeda. The agreement was signed in February in Doha, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
, after months of negotiations.

Al-Qaeda has 400 to 600 operatives active in 12 Afghan provinces and is running training camps in the east of the country, according to the report.

"The Taliban regularly consulted with al-Qaeda during negotiations with the United States and offered guarantees that it would honor their historical ties," the report states.

Al-Qaeda has 400 to 600 operatives active in 12 Afghan provinces and is running training camps in the east of the country, according to the report.
Al-Qaeda has "reacted positively" to the agreement, with statements from its adherents "celebrating it as a victory for the Taliban’s cause and thus for global militancy," the UN report said.

The US-Taliban agreement stated that the Taliban "will not allow any of its members, other individuals or groups, including al-Qaeda, to use the soil of Afghanistan to threaten the security of the United States and its allies," and would not "cooperate with groups or individuals threatening the security of the United States and its allies" and would prevent such groups "from recruiting, training, and fundraising."

The big shotship of al-Qaeda remains present in Afghanistan, the report says, as well as hundreds of armed operatives, al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent, and groups of foreign terrorist fighters aligned with the Taliban.

A number of significant al-Qaeda figures were killed in Afghanistan during the reporting period, the report says.

Relations between the Taliban, especially the Haqqani network
...a branch of the Afghan Taliban, based in Pakistain. The network is a family business founded by the later Jalaluddin Haqqani...
and al-Qaeda "remain close, based on friendship, a history of shared struggle, ideological sympathy and intermarriage," said the report.

The report also highlights ISIS’s subversive activities in the country, saying that the UN monitoring team now estimates that ISIS numbers are as low as 2,200 in Afghanistan.

The report says that ISIS "remains capable of mounting attacks in various parts of the country, including Kabul," but some of those attacks claimed "may have arisen wholly or partly from a tactical accommodation with the Haqqani network."

The authors of the report argue that the Taliban’s credibility as a counter-terrorism partner for the international community will "rest on their success in countering the threat from ISIS’s Khorasan branch," in addition to their handling of any threat posed by al-Qaeda, the report says.

According to the report, the number of foreign terrorist fighters "in search of a purpose and livelihood" in Afghanistan, including "up to 6,500 Paks," will "render this a complex challenge," which will require careful monitoring.

The report come as the Afghan government has expedited its efforts for peace by continuing to release Taliban prisoners from its prisons to move forward towards the intra-Afghan negotiations that Abdullah Abdullah
...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president...
, the head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, said he hopes will begin in the next week.

ISIS Khorasan claims Kabul bombing which killed 2 employees of a TV station
[KhaamaPress] The ISIS Khorasan, the offshoot of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), grabbed credit for Kabul bombing which killed two employees of a TV station.

The group issued a statement in Arabic language, claiming responsbility for the attack on a bus carrying the employees of Khurshid TV in Kabul city.

An official in the Ministry of Interior confirmed that the vehicle of Khurshid TV, one of the private TV channels, hit an improvised bomb at around 4 pm on Saturday.

The official further added that the earth-shattering kaboom killed two people, including a news hound and one of the technical workers of the television.

According to the official, the earth-shattering kaboom maimed at least six others including one of the employees of the TV channel.

The Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
group had earlier rejected the bully boyz of the group were involved in the bombing.

"Today’s kaboom against workers of Khurshid TV in #Kabul city has no relation with the Mujahidin of Islamic Emirate," Zabiullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the group said in a Twitter post late on Saturday.

2 children killed, wounded in an explosion in Nangarhar province
[KhaamaPress] An explosion killed or maimed two children in eastern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province of Afghanistan, the Afghan military said.

The 201st Silab Corps in a statement said an improvised bomb, planted by anti-government armed elements, went off in Shabi area of Deh Bala district in Nangarhar.

The statement further added that the earth-shattering kaboom killed a child and maimed another one.

The anti-government armed bully boy groups including Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
have not commented regarding the incident so far.

Taliban and holy warriors of the other groups often use improvised bomb as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces and government officials.

However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
majority of such attacks inflict casualties on ordinary civilians.

Taliban Leadership in Disorder in Wake of Coronavirus
Score for the Afghan government for releasing them from prison.
[NewsMax] Coronavirus has crippled the Afghan Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
, sending the organization into flux as members of its big shotship have sought treatment for the condition, according to Foreign Policy.

The illnesses have paved a way for Mullah Mohammad Omar, son of the group's founder, to grab the reins as interim leader, Taliban sources have reported.

The absence of senior Taliban leaders removes key decision-makers from the group during a period when U.S. troops are planning to draw down troops from Afghanistan to honor a bilateral agreement.

Haibatullah Akhundzada
...Former deputy to Taliban supremo Mullah Akhtar Mansour, now The Big Man Himself...
, the Taliban's supreme leader, hasn't attended meetings for several weeks. Sirajuddin Haqqani
...son of Pashtun warlord Jalaluddin Haqqani, still titular head of the Haqqani Network....
, his chief deputy of the Haqqani network
...a branch of the Afghan Taliban, based in Pakistain. The network is a family business founded by the later Jalaluddin Haqqani...
, which is affiliated with al-Qaeda, has substituted in his absence.

But Haqqani has been stricken by coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
, which has caused him to miss out on leadership duties.

"When Sirajuddin got sick he probably infected everyone else as he was deputizing at meetings for Haibatullah," Antonio Giustozzi, an expert on the Taliban at the Royal United Services Institute in London, told Foreign Policy.
...and no hydroxycholoroquine to be found anywhere... Bummer.
An anonymous Kabul intelligence official confirmed some Taliban leaders had contracted coronavirus, including the supreme leader Akhundzada. Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob has now taken the role of "chief of operations."

"Our hero, the son of our great leader, Mullah Yaqoob, is running the entire Taliban operation in Haibatullah’s absence," Maulama Muhammad Ali Jan Ahmad, a senior Taliban commander, told Foreign Policy.

Discord within the top ranks of the Taliban could lead to a violent clash between its rival factions. That infighting could ultimately break off talks between the Taliban and the Kabul government to end their nearly 20-year conflict.

"There are two possible outcomes — Mullah Yaqoob will own his position at the top and Ishakzai will accept him as leader, or Ishakzai will gather his forces and attempt to maintain control in his own hands, and if that happens then things will be very bloody," an unnamed Quetta source said.

#3  I wonder why so many cases are associated with meat packing plants. Is it because of the chilled, damp air? There have to be other businesses with similar size and worker density - why do we not hear of problems there? If temp &/or humidity play a major role, would it be an alternative explanation (to masking/lockdown) of why Israel has been more successful than Sweden (for instance?)

#12  Don't blow it off that way, grom. It's a reasonable question. 3dc just posted an article on an Alaskan fishing trawler with ~90% infection rate - not that different from our local chicken plant (which has had no more than 1 fatality so far in over 300 cases.) It's not 'proximity' - Princess cruise ship only managed ~20% infection rate. Local welding/manufacturing plant has negligible infections (so far) though pretty closely packed workers (but NOT much AC.) I don't claim to have answers but I do have a problem with others claiming THEY do. There's a lot we don't know, and there are plenty of clues out there if we would just allow ourselves to look.
Posted by: Glenmore || 06/02/2020 16:45 Comments || Top||

#13  #12 I wasn't "blowing anybody off" (entendre?), I was inviting a question (old habits die hard). The air in these plants is foggy with blood/body fluids and microscopic particles of flesh/fat/bone (happens when you cut frozen carcasses with electric saws). The one I was in, the workers wore face shields over filtration masks - and it was years ago, long before covid*. Now, if a virus can live in spittle, it can live in blood.
I'm assuming, the plants in Nebraska [?], Brasil, and the chicken plant you mention, did not issue workers with face shields or masks.

Local welding/manufacturing plant has negligible infections (so far) though pretty closely packed workers

Can I assume electrical welding?

*Surprisingly, the shields & masks were not at medical insistence but a rabbinical - so the workers won't consume blood.

Europe
The German Court's Unexpected Blow to the ECB
[mises.org] Since the beginning of the year, the corona crisis has come to monopolize news coverage to the extent that a lot of very important stories and developments either went underreported or were ignored altogether. One such example was the very surprising ruling that came out of the German Constitutional Court in early May, which challenged the actions and remit of the European Central Bank (ECB). This decision could have severe repercussions if it were upheld, but the reactions to it are arguably even more consequential and telling of the ECB and the EU's stance on national sovereignty, on respecting member states' own laws, and on their own expansive powers.

For one thing, the core principle that the ECJ expressed, namely, that only it can decide if EU institutions are breaking EU laws is deeply troubling to begin with. Admitting that member states get no say in any of this is problematic enough, but the idea of concentrating power and legal authority to this incestuous degree is plainly an affront not just to Western principles of justice, but also to common sense.
THE ECB "WENT TOO FAR"
In essence, the court's decision made it clear that the ECB's quantitative easing (QE) program did not respect the "principle of proportionality," abusing the ECB mandate, while the German government failed to challenge the bank's policies as it should have. The ruling also mentioned the side effects of the program and of the ECB's overall ultraloose policy direction, such as the penalizing of savers and pensioners. As was highlighted in the official decision, "the ECB fails to conduct the necessary balancing of the monetary policy objective against the economic policy effects arising from the program. Therefore, the decisions at issue…exceed the monetary policy mandate of the ECB." As a result, the court issued an ultimatum and directly asked the Bundesbank to comply with its ruling and therefore to stop buying government bonds under the ECB's QE program in the next three months.

Sheriff Grady Judd extends curfew, warns rumored neighborhood rioters that residents are armed
POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has extended the county’s curfew another night following a weekend of unrest and criminal activity.

"The death of George in Minneapolis at the hands of that police officer was outrageous," Sheriff Grady Judd said. "Had that police officer done here what he did there, he would have been locked up in the county jail by sundown."

"But Minneapolis is not Polk County," Judd continued. "And I want to say unequivocally that the community here is unbelievable ... But please understand, that if you come here to riot, to loot, to injure people, we’re going to lock you up in the county jail."

Judd emphasized his appreciation for peaceful protests, but condemned those who were there over the weekend looting and rioting.

Polk County’s curfew goes into effect from 8 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Judd ended his address by speaking on a possible threat they’ve seen referenced on social media that suggests riot activity may start trickling into residential neighborhoods.

"I would tell them, if you value your life, you probably shouldn’t do that in Polk County," Judd said. "Because the people of Polk County like guns, they have guns, I encourage them to own guns, and they’re going to be inside their homes tonight with their guns loaded. And if you try to break into their homes tonight and try to steal, to set fires, I’m highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns."

CNBC: BET Founder Robert Johnson Calls For $14 Trillion Of Reparations For Slavery
Opportunist grabbing at the chance to execute a key item on an old list. Fuggedabout it, buddy.
[CNBC]
  • “Now is the time to go big” to keep America from dividing into two separate and unequal societies, Robert Johnson said in a CNBC interview Monday.

  • Johnson said reparations would send the signal that white Americans acknowledge “damages that are owed” for the unequal playing field created by slavery and the decades since.

  • The wealth divide and police brutality against blacks are at the heart of protests that have erupted across the nation following last week’s killing of George Floyd during an arrest in Minneapolis.

Gonna have to discount the damage done by all the death, maiming and destruction of the Civil War first.
Then deduct all the costs of black pathology to our society and civilization, including but not limited to:

Crime,

Affirmative action

The financial costs of the countless social programs designed to "lift blacks up".

The damage done to our Constitutional rights under color of "integration".

Property value decline brought about by black people moving into the neighborhood.

Etc, etc.

If there is still money left after that, split the money up and tell blacks: "You can have this money when you give up your citizenship and book passage to somewhere outside of the US. Go where you want, but you can't stay here."

Ansarallah drones attempt to bomb southern Saudi Arabia
[ALMASDARNEWS] The command of the joint forces of the Arab Coalition announced the interception and shooting down of two drones allegedly launched by the Ansarallah forces towards the Khamis Mushait region in southwestern Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
A front man for the Arab Coalition, Colonel Turki al-Maliki, said today on Monday, "Today, Monday, coalition forces intercepted and shot down two drones fired by the Iranian-backed terrorist Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
militia towards civilian areas in the city of Khamis Mushait."

Maliki pointed out that "the Houthi militia continues to violate international humanitarian law by launching drones and deliberately targeting civilians, as well as population gatherings that threaten the lives of hundreds of civilians."

He stressed that "the leadership of the joint forces of the coalition continues to take and implement deterrent measures against the Houthi Lions of Islam to neutralize and destroy these capabilities strictly, in accordance with international humanitarian law and its customary rules."

Al-Maliki said that these "hostile and terrorist acts using drones are a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and confirm the rejection of the ceasefire and escalation initiative announced by the coalition, which began on April 09, 2020 and there was no response."

POWERFUL: Protesters Spell Out 'Love' With Burning Homes And Businesses
[BABYLONBEE] In a powerful display of their care for love and justice, protesters in Minneapolis burned the word "LOVE" into the city, arranging the inspiring message with homes and businesses set ablaze by their riots.

Heartfelt and moving.

"We just really wanted to show how much we care about love and social justice by burning this community into a powerful reminder of what it's all about," said local protester Jake Hernandez, who had flown in from Portland for the event. "Now, when police and fire helicopters fly over to try to restore order, they'll be inspired by our message of love and harmony."

Former Muslim Brotherhood Leader Reveals Erdogan’s Plan to Control Libya and North Africa
[ALMARSAD.CO] Salah al-Haddad, who was a member of the Shura Council of the International Network of the Moslem Brüderbund until he left the Islamist group in 2002 , in an interview with the al-Ain News website on Sunday, said that the Moslem Brüderbund terrorist organization outlined a master plan in 2006 to control Libya and North Africa. Erdogan revealed it in 2018 in Istanbul at the Moslem Brüderbund’s 90th anniversary.

He indicated that Erdogan announced his intention then to celebrate the centenary in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, the capital-to-be of the Moslem Brüderbund in North Africa according to their plots.

Then international terrorist plan was, however, fleshed out in detail when the Libyan National Army (LNA) reached the outskirts of the capital, Tripoli. Then, the organization publicly disclosed its international plan and vowed to burn all North Africa. Khaled al-Mishri, the head of the so-called consultative High Council of the State, said that in a television interview on the sidelines of his visit to Moscow on 22 March, 2019, argued al-Haddad.

"The situation of the Libyan Moslem Brüderbund branch is unique because it undertook the realization of the 2028 plan for the Moslem Brüderbund international network. This has made Libya a hotbed for all Brotherhood organizations, leaders, and militias, alongside their allies in regional and western countries all seeking to inaugurate the Moslem Brüderbund as rulers of Libya."

He also argued that the "Neo-Ottomans", led by Erdogan, aspire to establish military bases in Libya to be a springboard for their manoeuvres and those of the terrorist organization to destabilize the countries of the region and undermine their regimes to control the Mediterranean Sea through Libya. "In this way, they aim to besiege Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and strangle Egypt; they have economic and colonial targets and ideological drivers," added al-Haddad.

The Muslim Brotherhood expresses sincere thanks and appreciation to the Republic of Turkey, its leadership, its people, and its institutions, for kindly welcoming, supporting, and hosting the Ikhwan's 90th anniversary gala, as they have saved no effort to support the event morally and financially so as to take such great shape in the presence of worldwide Islamic work symbols, who gathered around the platform of the Ikhwan, recalling its steadfastness, tenderness, and the rich experience of its founder and heroes, and who also expressed appreciation and sent greetings to Ikhwan leaders, and the young men and women inside Egypt, behind bars or on the road to homeland liberation. Ikhwan holds accountable all Islamic organizations around the world, which were once nurtured by the thought of the Ikhwan, to continue on the path of this distinguished Call...,until Islam restores its land..., until Islam's values of justice and peace spread all across the World.

Petition to Recall Walz Takes First Step
[AlphaNews] The Minnesota Supreme Court received the official petition to begin a recall of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz over the weekend.

This marks an important step in the process to oust the governor. In order for the court to have received the petition, it had to be deemed "valid" by the State Secretary of State, and be signed by 25 eligible voters and according to a legislative research report. However, the court now must also see validity in the petitioner’s claim that the governor is guilty of maleficence in order for the recall process to proceed— an outcome that some say is unlikely.

#2  Governor Walz is the Commander in Chief of the Minnesota National Guard. Did Walz brief his daughter on when the MN NG would be deployed? Consider that during his time in the Minnesota National Guard, Walz was conditionally promoted to Command Sergeant Major. With two years remaining in his most recent 6 year enlistment, Walz received notification that his unit was going to be deployed to Iraq. Walz then retired from the National Guard. He quit. He bailed out on the men in his unit. Since Walz did not fulfill the conditions of his conditional promotion, his rank was reduced (the less elegant military term is busted) back to Master Sergeant when he retired. Walz claims that he retired as a Command Sergeant Major which is not true.. When the going was about to get tough for him in Iraq, Walz quit the MN NG..

At such moments the window of opportunity opens for the forces of order to act swiftly, exploit the immaturity of the sprawling, leaderless, inchoate revolutionary mass, and crush it with precise applications of overwhelming force.

That time is now. Today is the crucial day.

#15  Thanks, Besoeker.

Then our only hope at this point is OrangeMan seizing the nettle and invoking the Insurrection Act.

The police in so many of these cities have been restrained for so many years by sadsack left-lib hacks that it's doubtful many of them can rally and take back the streets. (Picture this example 2 days ago from Chicago's Finest if you disagree).

I don't see Antifa/BLM losing steam - quite the opposite. They just staged a fierce gun battle in St Louis outside Police HQ and shot four officers.

This is organized, focused, with carefully chosen targets. Looks like war.

POTUS needs to selectively Federalize the National Guard and bring in Regular Army leadership/advisors as necessary.
Posted by: Besoeker || 06/02/2020 10:47 Comments || Top||

#17  Think he might be firing that up Lex. It will be needed as per Posse Comitatus.

The Posse Comitatus Act, which passed after the Civil War to keep federal troops from policing the South, limits federal troops' deployment on U.S. soil and forbids using them to enforce domestic laws. The President can deploy troops if there's an insurrection or invasion on U.S. soil.
Posted by: Warthog || 06/02/2020 11:07 Comments || Top||

#18  Read the After-Action reports from the LA riots and understand the enormous decrease in legal operations when you federalize the Guard and it invokes Posse Commitatus. The Insurrection Act or Martial Law is the only way to give Federal Troops the breadth of missions that the Guard has in a state status. The frustration is the limiting orders certain Governors place on the Adjutant General. Federalize the Guard and the Governor is out of the picture but Posse applies unless you suspend the Constitution under some form of Martial Law.

Antifa Riots Roundup
One dead in Louisville after police and National Guard 'return fire' on crowd
[NBCNEWS] Louisville authorities did not specify who fired the fatal shot, and authorities have not released information about the victim

Florida police chief encourages residents to shoot looters breaking into homes
[NYPOST] A Florida police chief on Monday encouraged residents to open fire on violent looters who try to enter their homes.

"I would tell them, if you value your life, they probably shouldn’t do that in Polk County. Because the people of Polk County like guns, they have guns, I encourage them to own guns, and they’re going to be in their homes tonight with their guns loaded," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told news hounds during a news briefing.

"And if you try to break into their homes to steal, to set fires, I’m highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns. So, leave the community alone."

Minnesota officials say aggressive approach toward protests helped
[IsraelTimes] Officials in Minnesota say a more aggressive approach helped prevent another night of dangerous and damaging violence in Minneapolis from protests over the death of George Floyd.

The state poured thousands more National Guard soldiers into a response that came after repeated days of arson, property damage and looting on the city’s south side.

Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington says law enforcement tried to move quickly to break up groups of protesters who ignored an 8 p.m. curfew that was in place for the first time.

Gov. Tim Walz called restoring order the first step toward addressing the systemic problems that contributed to the death of Floyd, who died after a police officer pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for several minutes. Walz said the curfew will remain in place for at least one more day.

Richmond Leftist Rioters Torched Home with Children inside
[THEGATEWAYPUNDIT] The chief of the Richmond, Virginia, police department told reporters Sunday that Black Lives Matter and antifa rioters set fire to a multi-family home with children inside and then blocked access for firefighters to get through to save the children.

Richmond Police Chief William Smith broke down while speaking about the horrible burning deaths of a children after their occupied building was torched by rioters.

'We came to riot': Illinois man livestreamed lighting fires, handing out explosives in Minneapolis
[STARTRIBUNE] Matthew Lee Rupert, 28, is charged with civil disorder, possession of unregistered explosives and participating in and organizing riots, making him the first to face federal prosecution for allegedly taking part in the fires, looting and other violence that engulfed the Twin Cities since the death of George Floyd in police custody.

Last Thursday night, Rupert, of Galesburg, Ill., posted on his public Facebook page an invitation for "goons" to join him in traveling to Minneapolis, where he said he was renting hotel rooms and planned to wreak havoc and "take hella good videos."

Knoxville: 9 charged with disorderly conduct after night of vandalism
Photos and names at link. It will be interesting to learn of their connections — the FBI is no doubt starting to discover the network.

Yesterday Lex posted the link to Law Enforcement Today, because they’re doing a good roundup of breaking stories on the subject. And I wanted to capture something Iblis commented:
Had an opportunity to watch the riots in one major city over the weekend. I am by no means a trained observer, but I did notice a few things.

There were clearly 2 shifts. The first was mixed race, gender. Many couples. Some brought children. They had signs and water. Demonstrated during the day, then started leaving around 4PM. The second shift started showing up after that. Nearly 100% young male. Masks, helmets, some weapons. Noticed obvious signs of organization. Guys on motorcycles were moving around speaking with individuals stationed at different locations. Vans moving in and out. Same vehicles showing up repeatedly. Once the police started moving the crowd back with tear gas, the rioters went to individuals with bottles of a white powder. This was applied to the face and seemed to neutralize the tear gas. These guys were strategically positioned, and the rioters knew about them.

Minneapolis police union head defends cops, blames protests on ‘terrorists’
[IsraelTimes] Union president Lt. Bob Kroll says in a letter to union members that they have lacked support at the top, and that the “terrorist movement” occurring in Minneapolis was years in the making, starting with a minimized police force.

Kroll also said that Floyd’s criminal history is not being told. The AP has reported last week that Floyd was charged in 2007 with armed robbery in a home invasion in Houston and was sentenced to five years in prison as part of a plea deal, according to court documents.

Kroll said all four officers are represented by defense attorneys, and labor attorneys are fighting for their jobs. He said the officers were fired without due process.

#11  Even my new hometown of Quincy's gonna get some of it; there's an 'event' tonight and I might go check it out. Some Quincy Center businesses are boarded up, and my roommate (local cop) has that for a detail tonight.

Two observations from watching all this stuff last night and the first one has already been brought up - a good amount of these people are in fact organized. Why did I see some women walking around with 1/2 gallon jugs of milk? Because those are the medics, as Any Ngo's spelled out. Two - none of these jackasses knows how to good ol' fashioned fistfight, much less did I see any signs of training, like martial arts. I'm not sweating a god damn thing from these punks unless I see firepower.

I am a pretty big tall guy plus in body builder shape, I can get away with a lot of sh*t fearlessly and none of them have figured out how to deal with that safely, because they are stupid.

I study and use The Art of War, Sun Tzu and with 6 cops and me next to this lone idiot was my opportunity to make maximum impact without concern. Only when I walked away did "it" started yelling at me and no longer at the police, but knew to move my way, then "it" left 30 seconds later, a loser.

Give Up Your Guns Because Democrats Will Totally Protect You
It's Kurt
[Townhall] Watching the Minneapolis Police Department abandon its precinct to the torch and crowbar-wielding peaceful protesters in that Democrat-run state and city, my first thought was that I should disarm. After all, I have been reliably informed by our smart and competent elite betters that I don't need firearms because the police will protect me, and I am sure that even though they can't defend their own police station they will absolutely defend me, my family, and our pet unicorn Chet.

Confusingly, I have also been reliably informed that the police are evil monsters of racism and badness and that they should be the only ones with guns because of reasons that I am not clear on, but I do know that our smart and competent elite betters know better. If you have any doubts about that, just look at the urban paradise that is progressive Minneapolis. I hear the zoo has a new unicorn exhibit.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Breitbart: SNL Ghostbusters 2016
[Breitbart] Former Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones says people participating in the nationwide protests in response to the police involved death of George Floyd should focus on voting — saying, “burn down this fucking Constitution’ — rather than burning property.

“I love that you guys are protesting and see how quick you did it. But I’m gonna tell you, to get the fuck what you really want, we’re going to have to change the fucking system. And to change the system, we have to fucking vote,” Jones said, reflecting on her role in the 1992 Los Angeles riots and expressed admiration for protesters. “You want to burn down buildings? Burn down this fucking Constitution. And we do that by fucking lifting our voice, by fucking voting… That’s how we really show them.”
Personally, I'd be fine with "burning" the Constitutional rights of Jones and her cohorts.

And if they complain, just remind them that the Constitution is a living, breathing document. Right?

It was a bad cop in a Democrat county in a Democrat state protected by a solidly Democrat police union and dedicated Democrat Attorney Generals that dropped charges against the cop again and again.

You want to fix the problem the answer is simple. What have you got to lose? Start with busting the police union into pieces.
