Family down in Miami returning from a cruise yesterday found that their flight was "cancel" and all 150+ passengers flying to Atlanta were screwed.

They were bused to and put up overnight in a cheap hotel. They have a Flight out this 10am.

BUT! They now have to fly to BWI, wait for a connecting flight to Atlanta, wait there to catch another flight to their Ga. Region Airport. Then get their car to drive another 40+ miles home.

When it is all said and done, they will have flown more miles, than their 5-day cruise took them.

#4 Seems they will also have flown more miles than their MIA to ATL flight would have been. It doesn't add up if it's due to fuel costs.

#5 Back when trans-continental flights are begun, some portion of the trip involved rail or bus.

#10 Shaping up to be a bad summer to fly. Seems weather leads to more flight cancellations these days. Fuel prices. Staffing shortages. Transportation Secretary MIA / not interested in airplanes unless they are electric. Cost of plane tickets is up 40%+. And so on...

#11 Back 10 years ago, I had to connect thru the Philly airport. Under construction and a real cluster f. Arrived to a "remote terminal", they put us on a bus, drove around awhile, and then took us back to the same terminal. Literally looking across the lobby to where we left from.
I suspect that (a) the same management minds are still at work, and (b) the bus driver's union in Philly is a b!tch.

#12 Back 50 years ago I had a week to get from Las Vegas to London. Vegas to New York to London ($2200-2 days). Vegas to Chicago, a KLM to Amsterdam, train to Calais, Ferry to Dover, bus to London ($1350-3 days).

Had a great time.

Back in 2000, with 10 years as a Road Warrior Consultant behind me, I had racked up just over 820,000 Miles total. The miles were spread across Delta, United, AA.

Then tickets (with 2 week advance purchase) were about $450 to $750 round trip coach. $1400++ for emergency < 12 hrs arrival.

United, the most anal ticket agents.

Delta, the most accommodating.

AA, the most seat grabbing rides
eg... Fuselage and Window pouring water inside during thunderstorm roller coaster ride coming back from BWI to Ft. Bragg.
