#6 The writers of the article, Edgar Morin (a well-known sociologist), DaniÃ¨le Sallenave (a senior lecturer at Nanterre University) and Sami Nair (a member of the European parliament), as well as Le Monde's publisher, Jean-Marie Colombani, were ordered to pay symbolic damages of one euro to a human-rights group and to the Franco-Israeli association. Le Monde was also ordered to publish a condemnation of the article, which it has yet to do.

So, it was a "symbolic" ruling, eh? And, is it just me, or does Sami Nair really sound like a good ole' French name?

#8 Wonder what the euros think of their vaunted "speech" laws now that they've been used to tell writers they can't attack Jews.

It's one thing to say no one can write anything about moslems, but Jews? Next the courts will be saying they can't write lies about Americans.
